Prince Friedrich x Fem! Reader
Summary: (Y/n) ((L/n) was just your average debutante. At least that’s what she liked to think, she wasn’t the diamond of the season. No, that honor was given to one of her closest friends Daphne Bridgerton. She also wasn’t one to create or spread a scandal, though that doesn’t mean she didn’t enjoy reading about them from time to time in Whistledown.
Currently, the latest rumor in the gossip sheet was now about a Prince joining them for the season all the way from Prussia! All the ladies of London were buzzing about him though not a single one of them had met him… yet.
Genre: Fluff, Angst, and anything else I’ll potentially think of

ART DECO | Benedict Bridgerton x Reader (almost complete)
reader is super clumsy and benedict is always there to take care of her (he would hold her when she’s about to trip and maybe wipe off something that’s on hand he always thought he sees her only as his little sister. but when he sees her with another man, who is just as considerate with her as he is, he’s afraid that he would lose her forever.
HAPPINESS IS A BUTTERFLY | Anthony Bridgerton x Reader
Would it be possible for you to do an Anthony Bridgerton x fem!reader where it’s like that scene where he brought a candidate list for a wife and the when it’s time for him to interview the reader, he gets emotional because she did something to him that reminds him of Siena. So instead of interviewing her, he told her everything about Siena, and how sad he was when they both broke up. And the reader consoled him, and she promised to help him get Siena back. They became best friends and the reader become super close with the Bridgertons, and one day she talked with Violet telling her about Siena, hoping she would finally accept her. The reader would also go to Siena’s flat to tell her how much Anthony loves her still. Anthony finally gets Siena again, but when he saw the reader having a great time with another man (like the scene where Kate got into the boat) he becomes jealous, and that’s when he realize that he falls in love with the reader all this time.
TRAINING WHEELS II | Anthony Bridgerton x Reader
Dark!Anthony x reader where they’re at a ball and no one has danced with her all night because Anthony threaten any man who did try, so that way he could swoop in last minute and save her from further embarrassment.
GIRL OF MY DREAMS | Anthony Bridgerton X Reader 🚧
How about a request where Anthony is head over heels for the reader because of her motherly nature. First, he sees how she would play with Daphne’s son, and he just feels how great it’s like to be taken care of (like the reader would take care of him when he’s sick and help him with all the family duties) since all this time he took care of his siblings. The Bridgertons (and Simon) sees how in love Anthony is with the reader and they help with the proposal plan.
THE MAN | Eloise Bridgerton X Reader
I’d love some headcanons or a sort of fic of maybe it getting out and back to lady bridgerton that Eloise is in a secret courtship with another women. Eloise and her mom have a rather angsty relationship, her mom is so desperate for her to find love and be happily married, it’d be interesting how she would react to this. Would she accept that Eloise has finally found love, but it’s just not with a man.
BLISS | Jerry Baynard X Reader
Can you do a Jerry x Reader where Jerry is hiding from reader whenever anne brings her to the cuthberts because he has a huge crush on the reader and he doesn't think he's good enough for the reader to be her bf and reader thinking jerry hates them. So reader approached jerry quietly and leads to a confession.
PAPER RINGS | Prince Friedrich X Reader
since you asked for bridgerton requests,, what about prince friedrich x reader who traveled to london to find a man to marry(the bridgertons host her since she was a friend) and she immediately thinks of going for the prince because he would be the smarted decision for her family and she just wants to marry him but he asks so many questions that makes the reader be like wait omg he’s not only a prince but he has a brain for himself and i find him quite funny and he’s genuinely interested in me and they end up in like a garden or something and she confesses that she originally didn’t see him as anything more than his title and he has a moment of ‘..what’ and she says like ‘—BUT i found something better than just a prince i found someone i may want to give my entire self to and share thoughts with’ something like that and he like walks away from her in the garden and back to the ball and she just sits there crying about how she fucked up and then the next time there’s a ball where the queen is present he asks the reader to dance with him and he doesn’t say anything to her just ignoring her and then after the dance he takes her to the queen and profusely confesses his much he loves the woman next to him and says like ‘usually people only see my title,, but she has learned to look past and truly see me’ and like i much rather favor pearls over diamonds
I received all of your requests! But, these are the few I’m working on.

ep five
words count: 1.1k            fem reader! x Colin Bridgerton
warning: friends to lovers trope
summary: y/n Dayton and Colin Bridgerton were friends and they swore they'd always be but it takes a great deal of bravery to love someone, more to keep loving them when it hurts the most.
English is not my first language loves, trying my best, enjoy :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those of you who have been out of town, I shall update you: mrs Daphne Bridgerton has been seen in company of the Prince of Prussia, mr Friedrich, our new arrival.
What Duke Hastings thinks about it, it is still a mystery.
Mrs Cressida Cowper has been seen with the old baron Fennings, laughing by the refreshments table, could she be so desperate?
We’ll see.
In the meanwhile, mrs y/n Dayton might be proving that her heart is already busy or that she in not interested in the slightest in the marriage market (she has already refused three proposals!).
Guess we’ll see if her next interest is 'the one’.
-From the Chronicles of Lady Whistledown
"Ah!" Eloise exclaimed, "as if a woman cannot simply prefer not to marry".
"What are you talking about sister?"
The Bridgerton family was gathered in the common room, each busy in a very specific matter.
"Lady Whistledown" a sigh escaped her lips, as Eloise looked frustrated outside the window: "she is talking about y/n’s marriages proposals".
Colin’s head emerged from the maps scattered on the table: "marriages proposals?".
He rose to his feet, taking a glance at Eloise’s paper before snatching it out of her fingers.
"Didn’t she tell you brother?" Daphne stopped playing the piano as she looked at him "she declined already three".
Colin only shook his head, adding: "I wonder why she did decline".
"Right" Eloise half laughed, "I can’t really think of any reason" her face awaiting, gazing her brother as she was waiting for him to pronounce: "it’s obvious!", but Colin never did, instead he shook his head, rather happily: "yeah right".
As Eloise was about to comment on her brother’s stupidity, their mother entered the room.
"What are you all still doing here? We need to be ready for tonight’s ball".
A big sigh rose from the crowd, as Daphne got up instantly, "it is certainly going to be a great night" her smile more forced than ever.
To many surprise, that night the gathering had been organized by the Queen and was meant to be attended at the palace.
A rather important event, and a rather formal one.
The Bridgertons arrived all together as Daphne quickly left the family, her hands intertwining with the one of her dear friend.
"I can’t believe we’re here" y/n muttered, "don’t tell me, I’m a nervous wreck" Daphne replied, taking a deep breath.
"Guess we have to make an impression, don’t we?"
y/n smiled softly: "Oh yes, you ready?"
The girl nodded her head, as the two interlocked arms.
Making their way inside the palace was a view they knew they would have never forgotten.
Gazing down, y/n got a glimpse of all the people already there, who gazed up curious.
Y/n and Daphne took a moment to stroke an impression as they slowly parted, each gently making her way down the stairs.
The first to arrive was Prince Friedrich, as he held out a hand for Daphne, the girl floating towards the ball floor with her prince.
The second the Dayton girl's feet touched the ground, hands shot her way.
Solemn, right in the middle of the crowd of gentlemen, with a smile on his face, Colin Bridgerton stood.
Y/n’s lips broke into a warm smile as she looked to the man;
was it wise? Was it even right of him?
Despite all, she held his hand as he brought her to the center of the room.
"I missed you" he whispered, both bowing as the song was starting.
"It feels like I haven’t see you in ages".
The girl forced a smile through gritted teeth.
"I missed you too".
The boy’s smile widening, his hand twirling her around.
A dance, she promised herself, a last dance and then…
"What is going on in that little head of yours?"
Y/n shook the thoughts away, a playful gaze making its way onto her face: "you really think I walk above the ground?"
The boy looked confused, so she clarified: "I’m curious, we never talked about it", a twirl, "do you believe I demand too much from these gentlemen?"
Colin seemed to think about it for a moment as he replied: "you know, I think you demand exactly what you deserve".
He was right, she did deserve someone just as fierce and in love with her as she was.
Her hand rested on his shoulder, slowly sliding down his arm as she placed it upon his hand.
"I adore you, you know that, right?"
Colin seemed taken off guard, as he looked at her questioningly.
The song was about to end, she had to be quick.
"That is why" she took a step back, bowing slowly as the violin faded and the piano played his last notes.
"I have to let you go".
His expression fell, his hands too, loosely hanging by his side, he opened his mouth to speak.
Just on time, a girl rushed between the two, out of the hall.
Y/n realized, petrified, that it was Daphne.
"Daphne!" She called, running after the girl.
Quickly climbing down the stairs she saw her disappearing into the gardens.
"Wait!" Colin held y/n’s arm as she turned his way.
"Daphne is there, I gotta find her" she breathed.
"You can’t do it" he mumbled, his hand leaving her arm.
"What do you mean? Daphne-"
"Not Daphne" Colin breathed heavily, "you can’t just quit on us".
The light from the torches coloring their faces of a deep orange as night had fallen deep.
"On us?" Y/n asked, way too loudly than necessary, all the great talks about her being superior and calm had left to the garden with Daphne.
Luckily, nobody was outside: just her, the man she had in front of her and her dear friend who in fact had just disappeared in the bushes.
Her eyes burned with hurt, with pure rage.
"There is no us" she spit.
Colin felt hurt, hopeless.
"You’re going to marry her" tears threatening to fall "aren’t you?".
Colin took a second to reply: "this doesn’t mean I have to give up on you!"
Y/n laughed bitterly: "you’re going to start a life with this woman, have children with her, do you really believe you will have time, nor the permission to come by to take my brother around?".
A breath, as she took a step closer: "face it Colin, this thing, us, we always had our days counted".
A sniff as she tried to regain composure: "I’m just the one who has the courage to end it".
The man couldn’t help but stare at her, disbelief written on his face as he heard her mutter some last words: "have a good life, Colin".
And then she sprinted, disappearing into the garden, as night ate her all up.
It didn’t matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t picture his life without her in it.

Green Dress
Tumblr media
Author's Note: Hello! This is my first time posting my writing but I thought it would be fun so lmk what you think :)
Summary: Anthony x Fem!reader; It has been a long time since you were back in the company of Bridgerton's, since before Edmund passed, but it's your first London season and your mother insists on your making the most advantageous match possible. You have your sights set on Prince Friedrich of Prussia; now, only if you could ignore the little flip in your stomach whenever the Viscount looks at you. (1.3k words)
Tumblr media
"Get me out of this dress." You barked at the maid, frustrated with your lack of success at removing it yourself which just left you twisted and displaying much more cleavage than appropriate. She jumped into action, swiftly undoing buttons. "The prince's favorite color is green, not blue." you exasperated, "That horrid Cressida Cowper is spreading lies; not that I should be surprised."
Some minutes later, you emerged from your guest room in an emerald green dress, after thanking and apologizing to the maid for being short. It was not the first ball of the season but it was the most important because you were going to snag the Prince. You hurried down the stairs, able to see Eloise's look of impatience from miles away, and took Anthony's arm as he led you out to the carriage. "I rather liked the blue dress." You looked up at him, a little smile on his face but otherwise a largely indifferent expression. "Well, it was not for you." You couldn't resist being a little cheeky. He didn't always take it so well but you lived for the moments he huffed and puffed up his chest. Besides, it seemed to loosen him up a bit. You took his hand as he helped you into the carriage, sitting across from his mother. "Pity." He replied, looking so much the devil, and he turned his back to you as you stared, or rather gaped, until the carriage began to move.
Violet Bridgerton was rather happy to sit across from you on the way to the ball. She remembered when you were young and used to pick up your skirts and run over to Aubrey Hall just to tease and prod Anthony until he relented and allowed you to play with him and his brothers. Now you were grown up, all hair and cheekbones, and she was grateful because she hadn't seen her son exhale in what felt like decades, but a couple days with you and he seemed to be having fun again.
The ball was in full swing when you arrived, packed with people dressed in their best gowns and jewels waiting to catch a glimpse of the Prince. And there, in the middle of the action, was Cressida dressed in green and sporting a scowl the moment she saw you, similarly dressed in green. It wasn't much of a secret that you set your sights for marriage high. Your mama was famously ambitious and why wouldn't she be; you were a true diamond and more than happy to carry out her wishes. You grabbed Daphne's hand to take a turn about the room. She followed you but appeared distracted, probably searching for the Duke. You knew that something was going on but she liked to keep her cards rather close to the vest and you figured she would tell you when she was ready.
Anthony watched you giggle with his sister across the ballroom. His eyes followed you about the room, only half listening to what his brothers had to say. He said he preferred you in the blue but secretly thought you looked rather fetching in the green as well. It made your skin glow. "Anthony..." Benedict placed his hand on his shoulder. "Hm?" He was still distracted, unable to completely let go of you, but did take a swig of his brother's flask when Benedict offered. You looked so different than he remembered. Granted, the last time he saw you was when you were ten years old with dirty slippers and mud on your nose. But now...but now all he wanted to do was trail his fingers along your neck.
He was shocked out of his daydreams by a loud crash. A woman in purple swooned and took an indelicate fall to the floor. The Prince was here. Penelope made a particularly scathing comment causing Colin to giggle. But Anthony was following the Prince's gaze straight to you which etched what felt like a permanent scowl onto his face before crossing the ballroom.
After sneaking a glimpse at the Prince, and deciding he was rather nice looking with his blonde curls and doe eyes, you returned to your conversation with Eloise. He was looking at you, you were sure of it, and you expended a great deal of energy keeping the sly smile off your face. "He's coming!" Eloise whispered, tapping at your wrist. You were introduced to him and took a particularly deep curtsy. "It's an honor to meet you, your Majesty." you said soft enough so the Prince had to lean in a little to hear you. "The pleasure is all mine, I'm sure." he kissed your hand. Someone cleared their throat behind you, "I believe this is our dance, my lady." It was Anthony holding out his hand out to you. "Oh" was all you were able to say. "If you will excuse us." Anthony said to the Prince and dragged you to the dance floor. You were only able to shoot him an apologetic glance before Anthony placed a hand on the small of your back and the waltz commenced. "That was incredibly rude." you had half a mind to step on his foot, especially when he said nothing. "You know how important this is. How important this is to my mother." Your whispering was bordering on shrieking at this point, growing more and more frustrated. If Anthony wasn't holding your hand you would have jabbed your finger into his chest. "I am an only child and it is my duty to marry as well as I possibly can and I cannot have you distracting me-" Anthony looked at you then, his dark eyes on fire. Words caught in your throat and you became very aware of his arms around you and his palm burning into your back. You just stared into each other's eyes until the music stopped. "I am distracting?" He bowed and stepped away, leaving you, shocked, in the middle of the dance floor. If you could blush, you would surely be a deep red.
Anthony was taking heavy breaths. He could not hear anything but his heart pounding in his ears; he needed air. Anthony made a beeline for the double french doors that led out to the garden and undid the top of his collar. The night was cool and his breathing seemed to slow. His hands just stopped shaking when he was yanked under a stone archway. "What was that all about?" you said pushing him back against the wall. He let out a grunt. "I do not know-" "Stop." you looked wrecked but he imagined he did as well. You let out a laugh, "Why am I even here? I am sure Cressida is all over Prince Friedrich by now. And I followed you out into the garden." You froze, "I followed you out into the garden. I have to go back." You turned and repeated your last sentence. But Anthony grabbed your wrist and you looked back at him, finally taking in how defeated he appeared. "I am sorry." he said and you went back into the ballroom. It was too short of a time for anyone to suspect any impropriety, you assured yourself, and went back to stand next to Eloise. "What has happened?" She asked looking sincerely disconcerted, probably more because she truly did not know what was going on than how it looked. "I do not know." and you meant it.
You didn't see Anthony the rest of the night. Benedict said that he had left but you still searched around the room every once in and a while, searching him out. "Lady Y/LN, would you care to dance?" It was your second dance with the Prince. You heard one of the mamas say it was "truly a feat;" but back in the carriage, heading home as the sun peeked out over the horizon, all you could say when Violet Bridgerton asked you about the night was "I wish I wore blue."

She had never seen Friedrich as angry as he had been after her confession, but it had all been for her protection. He decided they would talk to his aunt after the event was over and make sure Lord Jameson would be arrested.
Friedrich had also managed to convince his aunt that (Y/n) and her family should stay at the castle until the wedding to make sure they were safe. (Y/n) couldn’t be more thankful about it. All the preparation for their wedding had finished so it gave (Y/n) some time to relax before the wedding. She also wouldn’t argue with seeing Friedrich more often.
(Y/n) had been sitting in her widow with it propped open to let some fresh air in, her and Friedrich’s rooms had been placed practically on opposite sides of the castle ‘to keep their reputations intact’ as Queen Charlotte put it. However, it seemed like Friedrich’s fencing practice moved closer to her room so she could watch him. Anytime Friedrich looked up to her window she’d quickly look at the book in her lap and pretend she wasn’t just staring at him.
Friedrich chuckled when he noticed she tried to pretend like she wasn’t staring again. He didn’t mind, as of tomrrow she’d be his wife. He couldn’t wait for their wedding. He almost wished it could be the day of their wedding already. He noticed she was talking with her ladies maid he learned her name to be Marie. As she had been helping the two talk when no one else knew. He’d actually asked her to help him with a surprise for the next day as well.
They both caught each others eyes and waved. In embarrassment he saw her turn back to Marie, while he felt a weight on his shoulder. His fencing partner. “Ah, so now I finally see why you asked us to move all the way over here,” He chuckled. He was one of the few that wouldn’t just let Friedrich win because he was a prince. “It has nothing to do with her room being there,” “I said nothing about her room, I just happened to notice her in the window,” He grinned. “Now are we going to fence?”
“Yes we are,” Friedrich turned back to him.
“Great, because you have a little something,” He pretended to wipe his own chin with a chuckle, “Wouldn’t want you to embarrass yourself more in front of your future wife when I beat you.”
Friedrich took a quick swipe of his chin finding nothing causing his friend to laugh. “Maybe rely more you your skill than jokes,” Friedrich said as they began to spar again.
Their wedding was slated to take place in the morning so they could begin their long journey before it got late. She had already been up for hours when Marie came to wake her up to get her ready for the day. “Are you excited,” Marie said with a smile as she sat on her bed. “So excited I can barely think,” (Y/n) grabbed one of the pillows behind her and squeezed it to her chest. “Well, good news, you only have to remember to walk down the aisle, say your vows and finally kiss your prince. With maybe a few other surprises along the way.” She winked. “Surprises? What surprises Marie?” She questioned.
“Nothing, nothing!” She giggled and pulled the girl from her bed, “Now lets get our bride ready!”
It felt like days while they got her ready in truth it was just a few hours, and she couldn’t help but notice Marie disappeared a few times while others did her hair, and helped her into her gown.
She was sitting on one of the chairs while she waited. When she heard a knock on her door and Marie popped her head in. “Good you’re alone now,” She smiled and (Y/n) walked over.
“I am, why?” She raised her brow. Marie came in but left the door slightly open.
“For a surprise,” She smiled. “What surprised?” She tried asking again. “Me, Schatz,” She heard a familiar voice on the other side of the door. She could help the grin that formed on her face. “I asked her to help me so we could have a moment alone before everything today,” He explained and reached his hand through the opening in the door. She took his hand and they both leaned against the door and she took his hand.
They stayed in silence for a bit just enjoying being close. “You still haven’t told me what Schatz means,” she smiled. “Treasure,” He said, and played with her hand a bit. “Because you are my treasure. And I’m glad I found you.”
They spent a few more minutes standing together until Marie let them know someone was coming. Then they reluctantly let go. The ceremony itself passed in a blur and they were finally married.
Everyone was ushered out into a large hall except for the young couple. (Y/n) had planned to follow them but her husband had a slight change of plans for them. Before they entered he gently took her hand and pulled her into a different room.
“Friedrich?” She questioned and looked at him with a smile.
“No one is going to miss us yet,” He explained with a smile and they sat down happy to be alone together for a few minutes which they probably wouldn’t get again until they were ready to leave for their honeymoon.
“How long are we planning to stay here?” “Just a few minutes,” he chuckled. “Tonight, we will stay in our home here in London,” he smiled. “Then tomorrow we can start the real journey,” He kissed her gently.
“I can’t wait,” She smiled and pulled away slowly.
There were so many people at their reception that it was almost impossible to move around once the couple joined the reception. They could forget about walking around much though as everyone was coming up to the couple to congratulate them or to enjoy their wedding night. Most of the latter comments embarrassed (Y/n) a bit.
She smiled and held his hand as Lady Danbury approached them.
“Lady Danbury,” They both greeted her with a nod.
“Congratulations your highnesses,” she bowed to the two.
“Thank you Lady Danbury,” (Y/n) smiled.
“And don’t let me forget to invite you to one of my ladies only parties your highness,” Lady Danbury winked to her before walking off.
After hours of exchanging plessentries with most of the Ton both (Y/n) and Friedrich were ready to go, Friedrich excused himself from his wife to go get their carriage ready to go. They didn’t need to worry about any of her things as they were already sent to their new home. So all they needed to worry about was getting themselves home.
As soon as Friedrich walked away that’s when her stepmother walked over.
“(Y/n), dear I’m glad I found you again before you leave.” She said. “What is it mom,” She looked to the older woman who looped her arm under hers.
“It’s time to have the talk about what happens on your wedding night,” She stated, and lead her past a few guards to a private room for their chat.
When Friedrich reentered the hall, he didn’t immediately see his wife where he had just left her only a few moments before. Some people had already left so it was a bit easier to walk around. He started to make his way around the hall. The first people he noticed were his family, then hers.
“Friedrich,” His aunt called him over to her. He walked over slowly still scanning the hall for her, “Yes Tante?” he asked and looked at her. “Getting ready to leave so soon?” she asked.
“As soon as I find my bride again,” He nodded. “Our mother took her aside to speak with her,” One of her brothers piped up. “Probably of what to expect tonight,” Another chuckled causing Friedrich to blush a bit. “Yes, I hope to soon hear my favorite nephew and his wife are with child,” Charlotte chuckled and caused his blush to deepen. Her mother soon joined the group but without (Y/n).
“Where’s (Y/n),” He father asked. “I think our little chat embarrassed her a bit, I believe she’s still attempting to calm down,” Her mother chuckled a bit and waved their worries away. “She should be coming back soon.”
Friedrich nodded calmly and decided he’d wait not to cause her to be more nervous. But he’d be lying if he hadn’t thought about what tonight would be for them. It had been one of the only things he could think of besides how happy he was to spend the rest of their lives together. He thought back to that day a little more than a week ago in the library.
“She sure is taking a while,” Her oldest brother stated, which snapped Friedrich out of his little day dream.
“What,” He said, he hadn’t really noticed he’d spaced out a bit.
“What did you tell her,” Her youngest of her older brothers asked their mom nudging her. “Nothing that bad, we should check on her,”
“I’ll go,” Friedrich said and went off to the room her mother said she left (Y/n) in.
After her stepmother had left with the information she’d told (Y/n) she was fanning herself and opened the window to let in some cooler air to calm herself down. She hadn’t know anything of what was going to happen and now she couldn’t be more nervous about it.
She paced around the room and took deep breaths in attempt to calm her nerves. After a few minutes she’d finally calmed herself enough to try to rejoin the others. There was a knock at the door where she was at. “Come in,” She said.
“Your highness,” A young guard she didn’t recognize popped his head in.
“Yes…?” she said slowly still not used to being called that.
“Prince Friedrich asked me to give this to you,” The guard handed her a note. “Oh, thank you,” She said and opened it. The young guard quickly left.
‘I have the carriages pulled around if you’re ready.’ was all it said. She looked at it and took a few more deep breaths before leaving the room to go out to meet him.
Friedrich reached the room and knocked. He didn’t hear anything at first and knocked a bit louder before opening the door to see the room was empty. He was confused and walked in. Nothing seemed out of place but the doors to the balcony were open, maybe she was sitting outside? He walked slowly over and looked out and still didn’t see her. Where else could she be, he surely would have seen her if she’d entered the hall again. Maybe she went to the library? He thought, it was their secret meeting place. He exited the room and began to think of any other places she might have gone.
He walked over to a few guards to see if they’d seen her. “Sorry your highness we haven’t since her mother brought her here,” He had asked them to help him look. He didn’t want to cause a panic if it was nothing. But now he couldn’t help but remember that no one had informed them of Lord Jameson’s status and if he’d been found or not.
He shouldn’t think about that now, it’s their wedding day nothing bad could happen today. And there were guards everywhere if he’d tried anything he would have been stopped. His pace to the library quickened as he hoped to find her in the back reading her romance novel they’d picked out a few days ago.  He made it to the back of the library where he’d hoped she’d be saying something about wanting to take the book on their honeymoon. But she wasn’t. A few guards ran up to him out of breathe.
“She isn’t in her room, or in the hall either,” One told him.
“My wife is missing,”

Another night yet another ball that (Y/n) attended in hopes of finding a Husband. (Y/n) being Lord (L/n)’s only daughter, she had all she could ever want in life and she was happy, the only thing she longed for now that she had been presented to the queen was a marriage built from love and not just who could give her the best life or how high she could climb the social ladder. Though her stepmother didn’t quite agree with that sentiment. She would say she only wants what’s best for her daughter and in her mind that would be someone with a title.
This was her very first season she was excited to share her first season with Daphne who’d been named the seasons diamond after a slightly rocky start with Baron Burbrooke she seems to have found her love match with The Duke of Hastings and she was quite happy for her friend and now only hoped the same for herself no matter how long it took.
Dressed in a blue gown that complimented her beauty she was dancing with a gentleman that appeared to have two left feet, for he stepped on her toes quite frequently though he didn’t seem to notice her wincing in pain each time it happened as he spoke only of himself. The end of the dance couldn’t come quickly enough, she thought. Though he asked for another she excused herself.
“Was that as painful to watch as it was to be in?” The young woman asked as she approached Benedict Bridgerton. He was Daphne’s older brother and the two managed to become friends as well over their shared love of the arts. She knew Benedict would make a fine husband for any woman. She just didn’t feel that way for herself but she enjoyed his company regardless. However, in her mother’s eyes, he wouldn’t be good enough as a second son his brother would but she didn’t like him like that either and was almost sure Anthony would never marry.
“Even more so,” He chuckled at her and pushed his hair back.
“Then perhaps I’ll need a knight in shining armor to come to rescue me the next time he asks for a dance,” She joked slightly nudging him.
“I am no knight, however, maybe a prince will come to rescue you~” he grinned at the young woman they had both heard the rumor of the Queen’s nephew, a Prince of Prussia coming to London for the season.
“Oh-“ She was cut off as the room grew quiet around them and they turned their heads to see what had caused it. That was when she saw Prince Friedrich of Prussia being guided by his Aunt the Queen to meet the young ladies in attendance at the ball.
She watched as he greeted Cressida Cowper, the two girls weren’t exactly friends but they weren’t enemies either, they simply tolerated each other. She watched as Cressida attempted to charm the Prince; he kissed her hand and smiled at her before quickly moving on.
“You’ll catch flies,” Benedict teasingly whispered in her ear with a sly grin. Her mouth had been slightly open as she watched the whole exchange between the two.
“Not funny,” she glared at him.
It seemed like hours but in truth, it was only a few minutes before Queen Charlotte brought Prince Friedrich over to the duo, though it seemed at that very same moment Benedict decided to wander off and she was left alone in front of the Queen and the Prince.
“Miss (L/n), let me introduce you to my nephew,” Queen Charlotte beamed proudly showing off her nephew. (Y/n) curtsied but looked up and met his eyes. A bright blue that seemed to sparkle in the light of the ballroom. He stood a bit taller than her. They reminded her of the boy she had met when she was younger. Why was she thinking of that now?
Friedrich reached out and took her hand, though both their hands were gloved she could feel the heat radiating from him. He brought her hand up and kissed it gently, she hadn’t noticed he seemed to linger for a few moments longer than he had with any other lady and it felt familiar.
“It’s lovely to meet you Miss (L/n),” he said as he finally released her hand.
“You as well, your highness,” she smiled and could feel the heat rise to her cheeks.
“Might I also say you look beautiful tonight,”
“Oh, thank you, your highness,” it took all the courage she could muster to not look away.
“I guess you don’t have a bonnet to lose tonight or any trees to climb,” He tried to hide his slightly teasing remark behind his perfect smile. (Y/n) stood in slight shock and was unable to form any words. It was him, he’s the boy… well man now.
“We must finish our rounds, Friedrich,” Charlotte spoke a bit confused by Friedrich’s comment, and guided Friedrich along with her. Friedrich was the Prince of Prussia! She felt like a fool still staring at him, however, he was still looking at her as well. The two didn’t break eye contact until Lord Jameson stepped in front of her.
“May I have this dance?” Lord Jameson spoke and held his hand out.
“Oh… Uhm yes,” she held out her hand with her dance card for him to sign and went to the dance floor for him at least he had been a slightly better dance partner than her last. However, she had been distracted glancing around the hall hoping to see the prince again.
Prince Friedrich had hoped to quickly finish meeting all the young ladies so he could get back Miss (L/n). He had met her when he had attended school in London many years ago. He had thought of the memories fondly on occasion, meeting her in the woods and when he saw her bonnet fly off and went to get it to return it to her, however, she had chased after it too. He saw her staring up at it, likely debating on how to get it down herself but he stepped up to retrieve it for her.
He occasionally snuck glances at the dance floor to see her with a much older gentleman she didn’t seem to be enjoying herself. He would have come to her rescue but he was currently occupied with his aunt.
After a short while, he was able to sneak away from his aunt and look for Miss (L/n). She now appeared to be talking to the man he had seen her with when he first arrived. He took the chance to approach them.
“You’re the worst Benedict,” She glared at the tall man next to her. Friedrich didn’t know who he was to her.
“I didn’t do anything,” He noticed Friedrich approaching them and grinned mischievously.
“Exactly my point,” Before the argument could continue Prince Friedrich cleared his throat.
“Miss (L/n),” He said.
“Yes?” The young woman turned to him and once she noticed it was the prince again she became a bit of a flustered mess.
“May I have this dance?” He asked, holding his hand out. She nodded, unable to trust her voice, and took his hand. He led her to the dance floor.
“It’s you,” She said once she found her voice again.
He chuckled a bit at her, he wondered if she had thought about those days a lot too.
“I didn’t know you were a prince…” She mumbled and tried to avoid his gaze. Remembering the ways she had spoken to him the first time they met, she had been a bit rude in her opinion.
“I didn’t say I was, it's not your fault,” He smiled at her again he thought her nervousness was cute.
“I suppose you’re right,” She said, training her eyes on his shoulder where her hand rested.
She took the chance to look up at his face and he was already looking at her. Her breath got caught in her throat as their eyes met again. She had to stop this; she never acted like this with anyone else! When the song came to an end neither was ready to separate but they had to so they reluctantly did. (Y/n) still didn’t know much about him but what she did know is she wanted to know more about him.

Dearest Readers, it would appear to be that our love matches of the season have yet to be engaged. Rest assured this author will be the first to let you know as soon as either couple has accepted a proposal. Maybe we shall have some luck at the Trowbridge ball? This author hopes to report on one of the lucky matches soon.
-Lady Whistledown
At the Trowbridge ball, (Y/n) was standing with her brothers, she had to admit she was a bit nervous about the evening's events. She smoothed her dress down and thought back to just a few hours earlier.
Marie was getting (Y/n) ready for the Trowbridge ball. (Y/n) barely slept the night before after her father had told everyone the news. Whether it was excitement or nerves she wasn’t sure yet. Marie had just finished lacing up her stays. When another maid knocked at the door.
“Miss, I have a delivery from the Modiste here,” The maid said. Both Marie and (Y/n) looked at each other in confusion. “But my dress is already here, and we haven’t ordered anymore,” She glanced back at her dress that was resting on her bed. “She dropped this off saying it was a special delivery,” The maid put the box on the table and quickly left. “What do you think this is about?” Marie asked staring at the box in front of them.
“I guess there's only one way to find out,” (Y/n) walked to the box and opened it. Inside was a beautiful deep blue gown, Marie helped her pull it out and they look at it. “Is there a note?” She set the new dress on her bed as Marie picked up a note from the bottom of the box. “Here,” She handed it to (Y/n) wanting her to read it quickly.
“‘I hope to see you wear this at tonight's ball and that it can make up for the one that got ruined. Signed Friedrich.’” She read and looked back at the dress then at Marie. Marie giggled, “I think you should definitely wear it!”
So here she was now at the ball wearing the gown that had been sent to her. She hadn’t seen Friedrich yet but she knew he was there. She was looking around the hall and walking as her brothers started to disappear into the crowds leaving her alone. “Miss (L/n),” the voice that called out sent a chill down her spine and made her want to hide but she couldn’t.
“Lord Jameson, how lovely to see you again,” She gave a polite nod to the man as she turned to him. “Do you think I may have your next dance?” He asked holding his hand out to the girl. She glanced for a quick escape but found none, so she allowed him to take her hand.
He guided her out to the dance floor, compared to Friedrich he felt cold. They danced and she kept her eyes looking out on the crowd hoping she could spot Friedrich. It took a bit but she did he was on the edge of the dance floor speaking with her father but he kept glancing at her.
“Did your father inform you I wish to propose?” He asked. “He did…” She said just above a whisper. She had wished it had been a dream when he father told her but he reminded her it wasn’t “And what is your answer?” He smiled at her, it didn’t hold the same brightness as Friedrich’s. The only thing she wished at this moment was to be dancing with Friedrich.
“I’m sorry my lord?” She looked at him. “To my proposal,” the end of the song couldn’t come quickly enough for her.
“My answer is no,” She said calmly. “Your father promised,” He said. “My father promised nothing, he said only if I didn’t accept another,” She stated firmly, she had never planned to marry the man in front of her.
The song finally ended, “Another?” He asked. Friedrich tapped Lord Jameson's shoulder, “I believe I have her next dance,” he said, causing the lord to loosen his grip that had tightened on her during the song. (Y/n) pulled back. “Your highness,” He bowed again. “Shall we?” Friedrich ignored the man and held his hand out to her. She nodded and took his hand quickly, wishing to be as far from Lord Jameson as possible. “Impeccable timing as always,” She smiled at him. “I’m sorry, I couldn’t come to your assistance quicker Schatz,” he placed a hand on her waist as the music started. “It’s alright, you still came to my rescue,” She said with a slight tease in her voice, already feeling more at ease with Friedrich.
He chucked, as they danced together, “I’m glad my gift arrived in time for you to wear tonight,”
She giggled a bit, “It’s beautiful, but you didn’t need to gift me a dress,”
“Maybe not, but I hoped it may make tonight a bit more memorable,” He smiled and spun her, causing her to laugh a bit.
“I would say just being able to dance with you makes it memorable enough,”
“Is that so?” He chuckled a bit, “Well then maybe I should save my plan for another night,” she pouted a bit and he smiled at her. “But I do believe I could still top our dance,” He smiled. “I know we haven’t known each other very long, but I hope to soon remedy that.”
“Oh?” She looked at him and tilted her head. “Yes, may we go to speak somewhere a bit more private?” “Of course,” She nodded. He led her to the edge of the dance floor where her father was still waiting, his hand never leaving hers. It seemed like he knew what was coming and now she had a feeling she did too. She could feel the butterflies in her stomach as they walked outside and were just outside the gardens.
Her father stayed far enough back for them to have privacy, but close enough that they could be seen by him.  “Some people back home, believe my coming here was to run away, in truth I was running to something.” Their eyes met and she could see all the emotions in his eyes. “I came here in search of someone to start a life and a family with, and I believe I found her, in you.” He confessed he pulled a small ring from his pocket and kneeled on the ground in front of her. “Will you be my wife, Miss (Y/n) (L/n)?” he finally asked full of hope. All she could do was nod. “Use your words, Schatz,”
“Yes,” she finally said and he slipped the ring on her finger, and stood up while holding both her hands. He brought both her hands up to his lips and kissed them.

Dearest Readers, it would appear as though the romance we had thought was blooming between His Royal Highness Prince Friedrich and our dear Miss (L/n) is no more. Since Somerset house Prince Friedrich has been seen with Miss Cowper, while Miss (L/n) appears to be turning away all callers claiming an illness will this illness keep her out the rest of the season or will she come back and fight? Only time will tell.
-Lady Whistledown
Friedrich had been having lunch with his aunt one afternoon. After he had tea with Cressida, he didn’t like her but he thought she was a good friend. If Miss (L/n) was happy though he was content to let her find her happiness though he did feel horrible about not going on their walk together he had been looking forward to it.
He thought back on the conversation he had overheard between the two, and couldn’t help but wonder if he had been one of the ones she wanted a break from and only said yes to him out of obligation. He felt terrible for just not showing up to their meeting but he thought it would be for the best.
His Aunt was reading the latest copy of Whistledown the author of the paper seemed to get under her skin like no other. “What happened?” She broke the silence between them.
“What?” Friedrich asked, a bit surprised, and looked up at her.
“Between you and the (L/n) girl,” Charlotte had been wanting to push him with Daphne Bridgerton, she was also happy with (Y/n) (L/n) as well though, but not Cressida.
“She likes someone else,” he stated simply and ate his food.
“That’s nonsense, Friedrich,” based on what Whistledown had written and what the queen herself knew something happened at Somerset house. She was determined to knock some sense into her nephew before he lost the girl forever.
He sighed a bit, “It’s not,” Charlotte stared at the young prince trying to figure out how to make it clear to him.
“Have you spoken to her since?” She asked.
Friedrich was a bit embarrassed as he hadn’t spoken to her and just didn’t show up to promenade with her. It’s not that he didn’t want to but he felt like he couldn’t, “I… I haven’t,” He rubbed his neck. “But after what I did I doubt she’d want to speak with me… and I deserve that…” based on the looks his aunt gave him she wanted him to explain and so he did.
“Friedrich she agreed to go with you, she clearly wanted to,”
“No, she was just being polite,”
“Is she going to be at the ball tonight?” Charlotte asked.
“I believe so,” Friedrich looked at her.
“Then dance with her tonight, actually speak to her,” She was determined to help these two clueless kids, and if she couldn’t make Friedrich see the light then she’d speak with Miss (L/n) herself. She wouldn’t accept defeat so quickly.
At the ball Friedrich a bit too frequently was keeping an eye on the entrance hoping and waiting for (Y/n) to be one of the next ladies to enter the ballroom but no matter how long he waited it didn’t happen. He did see her brothers and parents enter a short while ago but without her. He’d even seen Mr. Bridgerton around but still no (Y/n).
He decided he needed to go get some answers instead. So he looked around attempting to find Mr. Bridgerton again. It took him longer than he would have liked but he managed to locate him observing the other couples dance.
“Mr. Bridgerton?” He asked, looking at the man he thought owned the heart of the woman that owned his own.
“Your highness,” He bowed to the prince.
“No need for such formalities I was hoping I could speak to you?” Friedrich asked.
“Of course,” Benedict nodded and looked at him.
“Do you know where Miss (L/n) is,” He asked, hopeful Benedict looked at the young prince, deciding if he should tell him the truth or not?
“(Y/n) has been feeling under the weather,” He shrugged a bit. Friedrich couldn’t help the bit of jealousy he felt when Benedict said her name.
“Oh…” Friedrich nodded a bit, “How long have you two been courting,”
(Y/n) only got away with claiming she was sick for a few days, soon her stepmom would expect her to re-enter society and she would, she just secretly hoped she could push it off until Prince Friedrich left, she didn’t think she could face him again, especially not now that she knew he had been seen courting Cressida Cowper.
Anytime her stepmother or the maids came by she’d fake cough to keep up the appearance of being sick but Marie knew better. (Y/n) had read the latest copy of Whistledown, at first, she hadn’t minded the author but now she seems to be a main subject in the sheets whenever they were delivered.
Thankfully she thought that at least Whistledown hadn’t caught word of her and Friedrich’s plan to promenade before he didn’t show. (Y/n) was curled up under her blankets and hoping that the season could just be over and she could start anew next season.
“You can’t spend the rest of the season sulking,” Marie said walking into the dark room and drawing open the curtains, causing (Y/n) to shield her eyes from the sudden invasion of light.
“I’m not sulking,” (Y/n) glared at her but meant nothing by it.
“Oh yeah? You’re not sick,” Marie caught the pillow that (Y/n) weakly threw at her. “The only sick you are is lovesick, you’re clearly in love with him.”
“I’m not,” (Y/n) covered her face with her blankets.
“Be honest, any other guy like Lord Jameson you would love him to be off the market but you like him.” Marie walked over and ripped the blankets from her hands.
“But he doesn’t like me… Why would he ask me to promenade then be seen with someone else the same day he didn’t show up.” She stared at Marie and tried to blink away the tears forming
“Then what you need to do is show him you’re okay without him!” Marie shook the girl’s shoulders.
“Marie…” She whined a bit.
“No, no ifs, ands, or buts the next ball you’re gonna show up and show everyone how beautiful you are and have every guy in the Ton all over you.” Marie smiled and wiped the tears that started to fall.
(Y/n) looked at Marie and sighed knowing she’d never win but started to smile, “Only if you make sure I look my best,” Marie helped her up and to get her ready for the day ahead.
Her father had called her into his office once he’d heard she was up and about again, she wasn’t sure why but was told it was important. (Y/n) still, wasn’t ready to let her parents let callers into the house, and wondered if it had to do with that.
“Father?” She asked quietly as she knocked on the door.
“(Y/n) please come in and sit down,” he said, she nodded and walked to one of the chairs in front of his desk and sat. “I have some news to tell you now that it seems you’re finally ready to reenter society,”
“Yes?” She raised her brow.
“Someone has come to me to ask for your hand,” The news itself wasn’t all too shocking it wasn’t the first time he’d told her, but never in such a private manner.
“Oh, who…?” She hesitated for a moment.
“Lord Jameson,” He said calmly, normally when he told her of proposals they’d been done with the rest of the family. Where her brothers would all state how the man isn’t good enough for their sister.
“And…?” She asked slowly trying to piece together what was happening.
“I told him only on the condition that you don’t accept someone else’s by the end of the season.”
“What? Father.” If her heart hadn’t already been broken it would have broken just now. “I can’t marry him, I don’t love him.”
“Love matches are rare and you know that, your mother and I just want what’s best for you now.”
She didn’t know what to say, so she stood up and walked out without a word. She only had until the end of the season before she’d just be married off.
(Y/n) and her stepmother were at the modiste and she was adding some finishing touches to a gown she’d be wearing that night. She was watching as Madame Delacroix was adding a few extra details. If her stepmother knew of the conversation she’d had with her father earlier she didn’t know as she didn’t seem to mention it and (Y/n) didn’t want to bring it up hoping that it was just a nightmare. What she did know is apparently, while she was with her father that morning the queen had sent a letter to her home inviting her stepmother back to the palace. For what? She could only guess but her stepmother had been elated by the fact.
The bell at the door rang and both turned to see Cressida and Lady Cowper, Celina made a face seeing the two women that entered. (Y/n) focused her attention back on what Madame Delacroix was doing.
Cressida smirked a bit seeing the girl, “Oh, (Y/n),” she smiled.
“Cressida,” (Y/n) nodded “How are you?”
“Perfectly fine, you know we missed you at the last ball,” She offered a polite smile.
“Oh, yes, I wasn’t feeling too well but I’m better now,”
“Well, I hope to see you tonight, if I’m not too busy speaking to the prince that is,” Cressida was attempting to get a rise out of her but she wouldn’t give her the satisfaction of knowing it was working.
“Oh, I hope you have fun,” She nodded a bit trying to keep her face calm. Madame Delacroix excused herself to go speak with Lady Cowper, and (Y/n) stepped down, and walked over to where Cressida was. “I hope you’re happy,”
“Oh we have been, especially after I cleared some things up for him,” Cressida nodded and looked through some fabric.
“What do you mean…” She raised her brow and looked at the girl.
“Oh, about you and Mr. Briderton,” Cressida elaborated. (Y/n) stared at her and started to piece together what had happened.
“You told him Benedict and I are courting?”
“Yes, I don’t think it’s fair to waste the prince’s limited time here on someone who won't return his feelings,” Cressida smiled at her.
When (Y/n) and her family arrived at the ball she had a new fire lit under her with everything that had happened in the last few days she was determined to do something about it.

Dearest readers, I’m excited to announce not one but two engagements that happened last night. That of Miss Daphne Bridgerton to the Duke of Hastings and Miss (Y/n) (L/n) to Prince Friedrich of Prussia. Let’s congratulate the two happy couples.
-Lady Whistledown
The Queen had insisted on making all their wedding plans once she’d heard about the engagement, as she wanted it to be the biggest event of the season. It took a lot of convincing but they also managed to convince her to let them have a longer engagement with claims that she’d want time to prepare everything.
It had been two weeks since their engagement was announced, and (Y/n) had been spending more time at the castle at Queen Charlotte's request. However, even with the extra time in the castle (Y/n) and Friedrich had hardly seen each other and not for lack of trying. But each time they met up one of them would be quickly dragged away from the other, for fittings and any reason someone could think of.
That’s how she ended up here, in her gown fitting, the Queen didn’t want anyone else to see the gown before the wedding. As happy as she was to marry Friedrich she felt like the wedding was no longer about them.
Speaking of Friedrich, from the room she was in she could see him out in the gardens practicing fencing. A small smile formed as she watched him. She didn’t hear anything the Queen, her mother, or the Modeste said.
Truly she couldn’t wait to just be alone for a few minutes so when she saw the three older women leave the room for a moment she seized the opportunity to finally be alone and quickly changed back into her normal dress hastily fastening the back.
She popped her head out the door to make sure no one was close by to stop her and she went to find any place that could offer her some time to think. She found the library, she remembered Friedrich had mentioned it was his favorite place as no one really came here. Walking inside she looked around to make sure there was no one else present before making herself comfortable as far from the doors as she could manage.
Friedrich grew tired of his fencing lesson, and as soon as it was over he wanted to see his fiancée. Maybe he could steal her away from his aunt for a while so they could have tea or even just sit together for more than five minutes. He was planning to change and then search for his fiancée.
He hadn’t expected to see her so quickly, as he watched her enter the library. He chuckled a bit and decided to change out of his fencing clothes and join her. Once he’d returned it took him a moment to find her. But once he’d heard her soft giggles it was easy. He found her flipping through a book with her back turned to him and he noticed a few buttons on her dress were open or not matched up correctly.
He blushed a bit and cleared his throat, “And what do you think you’re doing, Schatz,” He asked her. She jumped slightly not having heard anyone enter and turned to him.
“Oh Friedrich, it's just you,” she smiled and looked at him.
He walked over to her and gently turned her around to fix the buttons of her dress, “What are you reading?” He asked, trying to take his mind off what he was doing.
“A romance novel,” She smiled at him and turned back to him when he finished.
“Where did you come from in such a hurry?” He asked, referring to the buttons he’d just fixed.
“My dress fitting,” She looked away from him.
“Is everything okay?” He asked.
“Fine, it's just all starting to get too overwhelming,” she sighed, he looked at her and led her to the couch to sit down.
“… are you having second thoughts about marrying me?” He asked, the only thing he wanted was to make sure she was happy. Even if it broke his heart as long as she was happy he could be too.
“What? No, that’s the only part in this I am absolutely sure about,” She turned to him and held his face in her hands. He leaned into her touch and kissed her palm.
“I’m glad,” he smiled at her making her smile as well.
“I’m also just disappointed I don’t get to see you as much either,” “As am I,” He wanted to hold her but held himself back. “But we’re together now,” He smiled.
“True,” She said.
“I say we make the most of this,” He chuckled. “How so?” She looked up at him.
“We can read together,” He took her book from her lap. She rested her head on his shoulder. Friedrich opened the book and started reading it outloud for the both of them.
That night when (Y/n) went home she couldn’t be happier after their meeting. They spent a few hours together that way. She walked into her room and laid on her bed and sighed happily.
After their rendezvous, they still didn’t get to see each other as much as they’d hoped but it had been slightly more. Until the Queen’s Luncheon, where they were practically glued to each other's sides. They were holding each other's hands, and speaking with the members of the Ton. (Y/n) couldn’t shake the feeling of being stared at, when glancing around she did notice several pairs of eyes on her and chalked it up to just that. She was standing with Friedrich when she noticed Daphne and the other Bridgertons enter. She excused herself from Friedrich for a moment to go greet her best friend. “Daph,” She smiled and walked over to the new duchess.
“(Y/n),” Daphne hugged her.
“How was your honeymoon?” She asked. “Cut a bit short…” She rubbed her neck. “But don’t worry it's okay,”
Queen Charalete walked up to the two girls with all her ladies. “Tell me, Duchess are you yet with child?” She noticed the blush on daphne’s face and she was about to respond. “We’ve been dedicating much effort to the cause,” She heard the duke say from behind them. “And we hope to soon see our Queen satisfied,” He bowed to her. “Excellent, I have a hundred guineas wagered on a Hastings heir to be born in the next year,”
Daphne quickly excused herself from the group leaving (Y/n) confused as to what just happened.
“So, soon-to-be Princess,” she heard Benedict say next to her. “Soon,” she laughed a bit, “Now where’s your future wife?” she asked him. “Haven’t found her yet,” he shrugged.
“Might need to get a move on, she won't wait forever you know,” she nudged him with a smile. “Now, I should find my fiance again before I don’t get to see him for god knows how long.” She walked around the garden being stopped by several people who congratulated her, she thanked each one but didn’t make small talk as was looking for Friedrich.
“Miss (L/n),” she heard her name called and turned to see Lord Jameson. “Lord Jameson to what do I owe the pleasure…” she looked at him, she hadn’t spoken to him since the ball where she had been engaged to Friedrich, and he hadn’t seemed very happy at that ball especially after she told him she wouldn’t marry him.
“Did you receive my bouquet?” He asked with a smile.
“What bouquet…?” She raised her brow.
“The jonquil and yellow carnations,” She remembered the flowers that had no note, she never asked Friedrich about them but now it made sense everything Friedrich sent was always sent with a signed note.
“Oh, yes, they were beautiful,” She offered him a polite smile trying not to offend him. “Well, I should probably find my fiancée, the prince,” She attempted to walk away from him, when he reached out and grabbed her arm.
“Wait, I never got to congratulate you, after I heard the news of your engagement,” she took a quick glance around to make sure she was still seen by most of the guests. A few people could see them but they were at the edge of the garden.
“Yes, thank you,” she nodded and wanted to make a quick exit and get out of this situation.
“He’s certainly a lucky man, and it was almost me,” He chuckled. His hold on her arm began to tighten.
“Let go, you’re hurting me.” She ripped her arm from his grip and backed away from him. He took a step forward, “I will scream if you don’t leave now,”
“Miss (L/n) this isn’t over,” she turned her back and walked away from him to rejoin the party.
It had been almost twenty minutes since (Y/n) excused herself to talk to Daphne, and she hadn’t returned. Friedrich looked and noticed she was no longer with Daphne or any of the other bridgertons for that matter. He excused himself from the Lord he had been speaking with to find his fiancée.
He figured she must have joined his aunt or her parents. Noticing they were all sitting together and she wasn’t in sight. Strange he thought, but still intended on trying to find her.  That’s when he finally spotted her making her way through the crowd.
“(Y/n),” He said softly.
“Friedrich,” she said and walked over to him, “I’ve been looking for you,”
“So have I, when I saw you weren’t with the Duchess or our families I got worried,”
“Sorry…” She said not meeting his eyes.
“Schatz, is everything okay?” He asked, taking both her hands. She didn’t know if she should tell him or not.
“I… I’m not,” That’s when she finally told him everything, from being told she would have married Lord Jameson, what happened at the ball, and all the way to what just happened.

Outside the doors to the ballroom (Y/n) decided she would enter alone. She could hear the music that was only slightly muffled. She took a few deep breaths. Her eldest brother was waiting with her as her chaperone for the night.
“You’ll be okay (N/n), You look perfect” he tried to encourage her. They heard the music from the current song come to an end and she decided it was now or never. The two doors opened and her brother stayed a few steps back and proudly watched her.
The ballroom lights felt blinding but she entered and slowly walked to the stairs, she subtly scanned the room for Prince Friedrich and noticed as he looked up from Cressida, their eyes met, and they were now the only two people in the room. She wondered if he felt the same, she hoped so.
They didn’t take their eyes off each other as she walked down the stairs and he made his way through the crowd to meet her at the bottom. Charlotte smiled proudly as she watched the scene before her. Maybe she didn’t need to have some sense talked into her.
“Miss (L/n), you look stunning,” Prince Friedrich told her, “To apologize for my rudeness the other day, may I please have your first dance this evening,” he held his hand out.
“Of course, your highness,” she curtsied a bit and took his hand. He smiled and led her to the floor as the next song began. As they passed by Cressida (Y/n) couldn’t help the small smile that formed on her lips.
Prince Friedrich placed a hand on her waist and held one of hers with his other hand while her free hand was on his shoulder. He was silent for a moment as they danced pondering his next words and she did the same.
“I-“ They both began and stopped before laughing a bit, reminding them of their first-ever dance together.
“You first,” he smiled.
She bit the inside of her cheek before beginning again, “I was going to say I think I know why you didn’t show up…”
He cleared his throat a bit, “I want to apologize for that again I shouldn’t have done that,”
“You don’t need to,”
“But I do, I believed some information that had been told to me instead of trying to ask you…” He glanced at her. As he remembered the previous ball.
“How long have you two been courting,” Friedrich asked the man before him who let out a sudden laugh.
“Courting? Me and (Y/n)?” Benedict asked the prince. Who was staring at him? “Who told you that…?” He asked
“A friend,” He started looking away.
“Your friend’s got the wrong idea then,” Benedict chuckled again. “We’re nothing more than friends,”
After Benedict had cleared it all up Friedrich was a bit embarrassed that he thought they were courting, but he had made sense as he also hadn’t ever seen or heard of Benedict going to call on her or show intentions towards her in any way.
She smiled a bit, “Well how about to make up for it we go on that promenade?” She suggested.
“That sounds wonderful,” He smiled. “Tomorrow?” He asked.
“My mother is meeting with Queen Charlotte tomorrow…” She looked at him.
“Then join her, we can walk through the palace gardens together,” He smiled, “I’ll let my aunt know.”
The dance ended but this time the two didn’t separate, they instead walked around the hall where her brother could see them. They spoke for the rest of the night and neither could keep the smiles off their faces for very long. Even when the night came to an end they left each other reluctantly but with the promise of seeing each other the next morning.
When (Y/n) and her stepmother arrived at the palace she felt completely out of place surrounded by all the members of the court. She was standing with her stepmother and she could hear the whispers of the people around them.
“Back straight,” her stepmother whispered, she hadn’t even realized she’d been slouching a bit in an attempt to hide. This was nothing like when she had been presented to the queen only a few months prior. Although at that point she didn’t know she’d be courting a prince, let alone the queen’s s nephew.
“I feel like I can’t breathe,” She whispered back.
“It will pass in a few minutes,” Her stepmother rubbed her arm in an attempt to calm her. It did little to help until she heard the large doors they’d entered through moments before swing open.
“Announcing her majesty Queen Charlotte and her esteemed nephew Prince Friedrich.” She heard someone call and she turned to lock eyes with Friedrich. They both smiled at each other and walked to meet each other.
“Thank you for coming Miss (L/n),” Friedrich smiled and gently took her hand and brought it up to his mouth, and kissed it.
“Of course your highness,” She smiled as he released her hand.
“Shall we?” He asked holding his arm out for her to take. He led her to the gardens with Charlotte and Celina following behind them to have tea in the gardens. “What are your favorite flowers?” He asked.
“I’d have to say (F/f),” She smiled, “what about yours?”
“I’d have to say, recently, I’m partial to a purple lilac” he smiles and glanced down at her.
“Oh, did something change it?” She asked.
“More like someone,” he chuckled a bit, “And I think they represent my feelings for her perfectly,”
“Is that so, your highness?” She met his gaze she swore she’d get lost in his eyes and not that she’d mind.
“Friedrich,” He said with a smile and placed his free hand over one of her hands that were holding onto his arm.
“Hm?” She snapped out of her thoughts when she felt his hand.
“You may call me Friedrich when we’re together,” He said.
She bit the inside of her cheek, “Alright Friedrich,” She smiled, and he could feel his heart soar hearing her say his name for the first time, “then you’re allowed to call me (Y/n),”
“Maybe I could also call you Schatz?” he asked tentatively.
She looked up at him again, “What does that mean…?”
“Something good, (Y/n),” He chuckled.
“Mm, then you’ll have to teach me,” She smiled.
“Gladly,” He said, the two of them found a shady spot to sit, next to a tree where they were still in view of her stepmother and his aunt.
“Reminds me of when we first met,” She smiled.
He chuckled a bit, “I seem to remember you ripped your dress,”
She let out a giggle, “I did, my stepmother was so mad when I returned home and she saw it,” He chuckled a bit and leaned against the trunk of the tree. “You know, I don’t think I ever asked what you were doing that day in the forest,”
“I was in the forest for a bit of peace and quiet, to read without interruption,” he smiled and looked at her as she rubbed her neck.
“And my brothers and I ruined that…”
“I wouldn’t say it was completely ruined. We met.” He grinned. “I suppose you’re right,” she teased and smiled. “So, do you miss your home?”
“I do, but I’ve always felt myself drawn back to London since I attended school here as a child.” He smiled, “I’ve thought this to be the perfect place to raise a family,”
She felt the heat rise to her cheeks at his confession, “Really?” She asked and looked at him with a smile.
When (Y/n) and her stepmother finally returned home there was a large bouquet waiting in the parlor for her, she had assumed they had been from Friedrich. It was full of Jonquil and yellow carnations. She looked for a note but found none. She raised her brow before shrugging it off.

Dearest readers, it would seem as though our diamond and the prince have possibly found their matches, but not with each other as some might have hoped. At his royal highness’ first ball of the season, he was seen dancing with only one debutante Miss (Y/n) (L/n) who was most lucky indeed. Whereas our diamond still has her sight set on the Duke of Hastings
-Lady Whistledown
The morning following the ball (Y/n) had been peacefully sleeping and dreaming of the days when she first met The Prince. When her stepmother came in quickly with the newest copy of Lady Whistledown clutched in her fist and her ladies maid Marie followed behind.
“Mom?” She yawned and sat up.
“I must know everything you and the prince spoke of when you danced,” she demanded as Marie got (Y/n) up to be dressed for the day.
“I mean… nothing really,” she looked anywhere but at Celina.
“(Y/n),” she warned. “This could be amazing for you, for us you have a chance to be a princess, don't you want that!”
“I want to marry for love, not because I could become a princess,” she complained as Marie helped her slip on a dress.
“So you’d rather let him marry someone else?” Her mother glared.
“If we both find love and are happy then yes I would,” she met her mother's eyes in the mirror.
“I thought I taught you better than that (Y/n),” Celina shook her head.
“I’m not just getting to know him because he’s a prince, I want to just get to know him,” (Y/n) told her stepmother.
“Tell me what he said,” she demanded again.
(Y/n) groaned knowing her mother wasn’t about to let it go she debated whether to lie or just tell her the truth. “We spoke of the first time we met,”
“First time, what do you mean the first time you met?”
“He was the boy that got my bonnet off the fountain,” her mother smiled brightly at the comment.
“And he remembered it?” She asked to which (Y/n) nodded “This is excellent!” She exclaimed as got up and left her room to celebrate.
(Y/n) looked at Marie who shrugged and finished getting her ready for callers. Marie had been her ladies' maid for five years; besides, Daphne was one of her closest friends.
“Lady Whistledown wrote about the two of you,” she said after a while.
“What? Is that why mother is so concerned…” (Y/n) covered her face and groaned, of course, this gossip sheet was the cause.
“The prince only danced with one young lady~” she teased and brushed her hair back.
“But he danced with me…” When the realization hit her she became more flustered than she had been even last night. It must have just been a mistake, maybe he danced with someone else and Whistledown didn’t see it. Why would he only dance with her? It didn’t make sense to her.
Marie giggled at the girl, “Who knows, maybe The Prince is smitten with you already,”
“Marie,” (Y/n) bit the inside of her cheek, “It must just be a mistake,” There’s no way he would pick her over one of the many other debutantes in London. He probably couldn’t. Wouldn’t he have to marry a princess? All those thoughts rushed through her mind.
“I’m only teasing,” she giggled again. “You’re all ready for your callers this morning.”
It had been several hours and she’d yet to have a break from callers. They were all attempting to woo her with their gifts, songs, poems, and more. It seemed to never end. She used to have a few but it felt like every man in London was in her drawing room. Every man except… No, she had to stop thinking like that, he was just being nice dancing with her.
She watched as Henry entered the drawing room, likely to announce yet another caller, (y/n) prayed for this day to just be over so she could rest. Henry walked over to her stepmother and whispered something in her ear, and she swears she’s never seen her smile so much. She whispered something back and he left the room again.
(Y/n) raised her brow a bit. She glanced at the door to the drawing room wondering if there was another caller or not and Henry came back.
“His highness Prince Friedrich for Miss (L/n),” He announced as everyone turned to the door. There he was in his blue uniform. (Y/n) quickly stood up and looked at him. She was happy he was there so she could ask him about the ball but she also wondered why he was there.
His arrival seemed to scare off most of the other callers, something she was pleased about and it left her with him and a few other brave callers which included Lord Jameson.
“Please have a seat anywhere you’d like your highness,” her stepmother said.
“Thank you,” he smiled and decided to take the closest available chair to where (Y/n) was now sitting again. Her attention had been focused on him and she hadn’t noticed the looks shared between her parents.
A few days had passed since that day, and Prince Friedrich didn’t get to speak much as Lord Jameson kept the conversation focused on him, and soon after her father sent everyone home. Needless to say, her stepmother hadn’t been too happy when that happened. She had heard them shouting downstairs but couldn’t make out what was being said.
Today however she was granted a break being able to see the paintings at somerset house. She’d heard the prince would also be in attendance at the event. When she’d arrived she knew exactly where he was based on the horde of young ladies that surrounded him. Her stepmother tried to drag her over, but she was able to instead join her brothers and father who had also entered the gallery.
She wandered around the large gallery looking at all the paintings. Part of her hoped maybe Benedict might get to have one of his paintings featured here. Speaking of her friend he quickly joined her, most likely hiding from his mother trying to set him up.
“You know, I must say I’m happy that the prince is here, fewer mamas and their daughters surrounding the rest of us,” Benedict complained a bit.
“Scared of a few mamas?” She grinned as she teased the man.
“I am not,” he chuckled.
“No? Just yours then?”
“I would have thought this being daphne’s first season she’d be more focused on her,”
“I wish my mom would focus on anyone but me,” (Y/n) huffed.
“I rather think she’s happy with all the attention you’ve been receiving since the prince had his first dance with you.” He chuckled.
When Friedrich was finally able to enter the gallery he went in search of the one woman he wanted to talk to. He saw her with the same man he had seen her with at the last ball. Based on a few portraits that he had seen the day he visited (y/n)’s home to call on her he wasn’t one of her brothers, but he also hadn’t been one of her callers that day…
“Please she’s ecstatic about it, but I want a break from them, especially Lord Jameson,” She complained a bit
Yet again her male companion was the first to notice him “As I said maybe you need a prince to rescue you~” Benedict teasingly whispered only loud enough for her to hear before spinning her to be met face to face with Prince Friedrich yet again.
“Your highness,” She wanted to crawl into a hole. How much of her and Benedict's conversation had he heard, if any at all?
“Miss (L/n), would you like to join me in viewing the paintings?” He asked.
“Why?” She asked before she could stop herself. She didn’t mean it like that, she was flattered he wanted to spend time with her again but why her and not someone else?
“Because, we didn’t get to speak much when I called on you and I wanted to speak with you,” He said, holding his arm out for her. She looked at him for a moment and only took it when Benedict nudged her foreword.
“I’d like that,” She said and looked up at him. “I’ll see you a bit later, Benedict.” She glanced back at him as he waved her off.
“Have fun,” He winked at the pair. They walked around in silence for a moment.
“I-“ They both started to say at the same time.
“You first,” He smiled.
“I… I didn’t mean for that ‘why’ to sound so rude.” She kept her eyes trained on the ground.
He chuckled at her, “that’s quite okay, I understand.”
“What were you about to say, your highness?”
“Oh, I was wondering if maybe you’d like to promenade with me tomorrow, and you know get a break,” he smiled at her, so he had heard that part of their conversation.
“Are you sure…?” She asked.
“I wouldn’t have asked if I wasn’t,” He said.
“Then yes,” She smiled to herself and snuck a glance up at him and he was smiling too.
But it seemed as if no one wanted to let the pair speak for more than a few minutes as Cressida Cowper approached them.
“Your highness,” she smiled, (Y/n) couldn’t help but think Cressida would make a better princess than her… why was she thinking about that now. He wasn’t even officially courting her or anyone yet for that matter.
Friedrich looked at the blonde, “Yes Miss Cowper?” He asked.
“I was hoping to hear your opinion on a few of these pieces,” she fanned herself lightly.
He glanced down at (Y/n) who seemed to be lost in her thoughts but she was still holding his arm which made him happy.
“I suppose Ms. (L/n) and I can come to look with you,” Cressida seemed a bit disappointed at that and it also seemed to snap (Y/n) out of her thoughts as both girls looked at the prince.
Friedrich guided (Y/n) as they followed Cressida to look at a few pieces. (Y/n) had momentarily let go of his arm to get a closer look at another piece nearby. He already missed her being close but continued to speak with Miss Cowper.
(Y/n) was looking at a painting that caught her eye, she had to leave the prince's side to get a closer look, she heard a collective gasp from many people in the room and turned to see that Cressida had ‘Swooned’ into the prince’s arms. She couldn’t help the little pang of jealousy she felt, as he was attempting to help Cressida.
Benedict was suddenly by her side and having trouble holding back his laugh. (Y/n) glanced up at him and hit his arm lightly. She didn’t notice that both Friedrich and Cressida had looked up at the two.
After Friedrich helped her up after she recovered Cressida noticed he was still looking at (Y/n).
“You know,” she started gaining the Prince’s attention. “She and Mr. Bridgerton are quite close, it's a wonder he hasn’t proposed to her already,” she shrugged lightly.
“I see…” Friedrich said softly and watched as the girl he had feelings for spoke with another man.
“That was such a fake swoon,” (Y/n) complained to Benedict.
He chuckled, “Is someone jealous~”
“What, no,” she crossed her arms, “why would I be jealous,”
“I don’t know but you sound jealous,” he grinned.
“I’m not, and it's not like he likes me like that anyways for me to have a reason to be jealous.” She said whether she was trying to convince him or herself she wasn’t sure now.
“Then why not put that to the test~” Benedict winked at her.
“What?” She asked and raised her brow.
“If you’re so sure he doesn’t like you then let's test that theory out. We try to make him jealous?”
“… Ben,” She said she didn’t like the idea of doing that to him, it wasn’t his fault Cressida did that and was most likely just trying to get a rise out of her.
“It will be fine.” He said.
“No, I’m not going to do that to him,” She decided. “Besides, he's going to promenade with me tomorrow.”
“Oh~ so you do like him,” she glared at the man and decided to go find her mother.
The following day came and went… he never showed up… because of course he wasn’t seriously courting her… she knew it.

(Y/n) was sitting in the drawing room of Bridgerton house with Daphne, and many of her siblings. “Are you to be a princess?” Hyacinth asked, bouncing off the walls. The two older girls giggled at her excitement.
“Only if he proposes,”
“Oh, I hope it happens!”
“Should you not be with your governess?” Daphne asked her sister. “She wants to know too!” “I think we may need to take our conversation elsewhere Daph,” (Y/n) laughed. “No! No! I’ll be quiet,” Hyacinth said wanting to hear what they spoke of. The two older girls laughed as she scurried off to join Gregory and play chess with him.
“Are you hoping the Duke proposes soon?” (Y/n) asked. “Truthfully I don’t know when or if he will,” Daphne stated. (Y/n) stared at her friend, “What is he planning to run away with you and elope?” Daphne let out a laugh, “No, it's just he still says he will never marry,” “You two are a love match it's clear as day to everyone,” “Maybe not that clear…” Daphne said.
“Someone should talk some sense into him,” (Y/n) shook her head.
“Well, what of you and the Prince?” Daphne asked. “He’s so sweet, he's probably the sweetest man I’ve ever met,” She smiled to herself.
“Do you know when he intends on proposing?” Daphne asked. “I don’t and if he’s asked for permission neither father nor any of my brothers are letting that information slip.”
Daphne giggled, “Well for your sake I hope it's soon.”
“I do too,” she whispered remembering what her father had told her in private a few weeks prior. “What's wrong?” Daphne asked feeling the shift in tone.
“Some has asked for my hand…”
“You said no though… right?” “My father isn’t giving me much of a choice, if I don’t secure another proposal by the end of the season I’ll have to marry this other man.” “No way…” Daphne placed her hand on the girl's shoulder. “Have faith in the prince, he’ll propose I’m sure of it!” the two shared a quick hug.
Friedrich had invited her, and her older brother (B/n) to a boxing match the following afternoon. “If mother knew I brought you here she’d have my head,”
“You could have said no but then I would have asked (S/b/n),” she nudged her brother, as they walked into the building in search of Friedrich. “I thought I was your favorite,” He faked offense.
“Absolutely, not, that's (Y/b/n), he doesn’t meddle in my love life,” “Yet,” “Miss (L/n),” She heard a familiar voice call out. (Y/n) quickly turned only to be met with disappointment but tried not to let show when she saw Lord Jameson. “I must say I’m shocked your brother brought you here.”
“The Prince invited us,” Her brother explain. “Oh, this isn’t a place for a lady though,” (B/n) shrugged and attempted to lead his sister away. “We must find the prince if you’ll excuse us, Lord Jameson,”
“How about I sit with you and make sure the young lady's mind doesn’t get corrupted,” He said attempting to reach an arm out. “Miss (L/n) Mr. (L/n),” She heard a familiar German accent call out and saw Friedrich approach them. (Y/n) couldn’t help the sigh of relief she released seeing him.
“Your highness,” She smiled as he walked over to them. He held a singular purple lilac in his hand. Friedrich smiled and looked at the two other men. “Your highness,” Lord Jameson bowed to him, and Friedrich nodded to him.
“Here I brought this for you,” He handed her the flower, “I would have sent a bouquet but I found this to be more personable,”
“Thank you, your highness,” She smiled and held the flower.
“You two go find seats, I’ll be nearby,” Her brother let them go. “Your timing couldn’t be more perfect,” She told him and looked up at him.
“Oh?” He smiled a bit and lead her to some seats. “Glad, I could help mein schatz,” “Still haven’t told me what that means,” She smiled. “I will,” He chuckled and placed his hand over hers. She smiled a bit more. She also noticed her brother keeping Lord Jameson busy which she was thankful for. “I’ll admit I’m surprised your brother actually brought you but I’m happy he did,”
“As am I,”
“I wanted to speak with you more, and though this might not be the most appropriate place I hope you don’t mind,” He said. “I don’t, and it could turn out to be fun to watch,”
He chuckled, “Your family seems to be quite close,”
“We are,” She smiled, “Are you close with yours?” “I am, growing up I always had serval cousins around and I hope the same for my future children as well assuming my wife would agree,” He looked at her, and caused her to smile again.
“I would hope the same for mine, I truly don’t know who I’d be without my brothers”
He let out a soft chuckle and they both turned to watch the match, every time one of the men hit the other she’d unconsciously squeeze his hand a bit, not that he minded in the slightest.
That night Celina had indeed found out that (B/n) took her to the boxing exhibition. How she found out neither we’re sure as they hadn’t told her, nor did any of their siblings.
“I can’t believe you’d take her there!” She scolded (B/n). “And I can’t believe you’d go! What if something had happened.”
“I was close by nothing happened and I’m sure the prince would have protected her if he needed to,” Her brother spoke back. “Nevertheless a boxing exhibition is no place for a lady,”
“The things you men find entertainment,” She shook her head, “Even if he is the prince you shouldn’t go there,” “Miss Bridgerton was there with Anthony and the Duke,” her brother said in their defense. “Well, then both you and Anthony Bridgerton should be ashamed of yourselves for taking your sisters there,” “Mama, I’m fine,” (Y/n) finally spoke. Celina sighed but relented finally. Their father walked in the door. All who were in the room turned towards him. “Dad,” “I have news for everyone,” He spoke calmly, and they all looked at him in anticipation. “The Prince sought me out at the club, and he asked for permission to propose,”

warning: friends to lovers trope
summary: y/n Dayton and Colin Bridgerton were friends and they swore they'd always be but it takes a great deal of bravery to love someone, more to keep loving them when it hurts the most.

If anything, this Author should be joyful in announcing today’s races are going to be a battlefield.
With the Duke of Hastings out of the picture (he and Daphne Bridgerton have been seen together every day for almost a week straight), mamas are in desperate search of a new pray.
They shall not been disappointed, the Prince of Prussia, mr Friedrich, nephew of the queen herself, will be attending tomorrow’s night at the opera.
Best of luck aspiring princesses.
-From the Chronicles of Lady Whistledown
"Can you believe it?!" Daphne exclaimed, letting the paper rest on the table of y/n’s room.
"She fell for it" she finally breathed, a smile plastered on her face as she let herself fall onto her friend’s bed.
"She did, indeed, like every other person with a pair of eyes" y/n sighed sarcastic, as she was trying to put on jewelry.
Daphne laughed, something she seemed to do more frequently now.
"By the way" the Dayton girl turned around, "is Eloise gonna be at the races today? I have some books I promised to lend her".
Daphne got up shaking her head: "she is not, but you definitely have to come for dinner at our house one of these nights, I want to show you all the gifts I received!" She squeaked, something that always put y/n on a happy mood.
Nonetheless, her smile was almost forced.
She loved staying over at the Bridgertons’, but this new love interest of Colin made her feel almost intrusive, like she was no longer permitted to stay near the man.
It was a rather strange feeling indeed, but she was feeling it anyway; Colin’s presence just put her on an uncomfortable mood.
She was climbing down the stairs, Daphne in front of her was jumping two steps at a time (so unlikely of Daphne).
When they turned to the big living room, y/n’s father welcomed the duo.
"Daphne, y/n, we have a visitor" he announced happily.
And there he stood, the man y/n was hoping to avoid until his engagement day, or maybe just forever.
"Colin!" Daphne spoke first, as the man softly bowed, his eyes never leaving y/'s figure.
"What are you doing here, brother? I thought you were at the Featheringtons today too".
Colin shifted uncomfortably, "I promised Abram I would have taken him to the races".
The memory slapping y/n across the face.
The races, right…
"Colin! You really came!" Abram came out from behind the girls as Colin opened his arms, ready to embrace him.
How he behaved with her brother, she had to recognize, was one of the reasons she adored him that much.
"Well I was just suggesting to mr Bridgerton that we all took off together" her father said.
"So lovely".
That ride had been one of the longest of y/n’s life; Colin’s shoulder brushing against hers every time the carriage found a hole, while her father kept asking him questions, trying to make the moment the more joyful.
The moment the carriage stopped, Daphne excused herself, "I have to go find the Duke" she breathed, a smile plastered on her lips.
Colin had gotten out of the carriage secondly, as he extended an arm out for y/n to take.
It took a breath and a strong will to actually accept and get out.
The two walking towards the event as Colin looked down at her: "is something wrong?".
"We shouldn’t be walking like this" she protested, the fake smile on her face reserved to the ton was starting to crumble.
"What do you mean?" The boy asked, confused.
She tried to unwrap his hold on her arm but he kept it in place.
"My arm on yours Colin", she actually turned to look at him, his face displaying nothing but hurt.
"We’ve been like this a hundred times before" he argued.
"Now we can’t"
"But why?"
"Because" y/n let go of his grip as she came to an alt, facing the man.
"It wouldn’t be proper in your position to court a girl and be seen walking alone with another"
"But y/n-"
"No, Colin, I don’t wanna ruin this for you".
And in a second she was gone, her blue dress softly waving with the breeze.
And Colin felt nothing but a knot in his stomach.
She hated fighting with Colin, she hated it more than fighting with her own father.
That because while her father knew that he had to come armed to a battle with his best soldier, Colin just felt frustrated and impatient.
He did not use her father’s precise words, he did not gaze at her after a statement that was far too mean on her side, making she instantly regret her words.
No, when she and the Bridgerton boy fought, the battle was frequently passive aggressive: they  would torture each other with sarcastic remarks until someone finally showed white flag.
Then, it was time for apologizing, talking, making things clear and sincere.
But Colin knew her, just as much as she knew him and if there was one thing worse than fighting with y/n, it would have been disappointing her.
Because when she fought, he knew where the battle was played; but when he disappointed her, he kept on searching desert lands in hopes to ear shoutings and swords.
And god knew she was the most stubborn human being on the planet; she refused to confront him right away, preferring to make it obvious that something was bothering her but leaving him with half answers, half hints and nothing more, just like that day.
What did him wooing Marina had to do with her?
Was it possible that she felt put aside?
How crazy was she to even doubt him?
And why was he so angry just at the thought of her deciding that now that he found someone he liked, she had decided (entirely on her own, without even consulting him) to put their friendship behind?
It was wrong of her and selfish.
With these thoughts tormenting his mind he made his way to the stands, sitting rather ungracefully between her and her brother.
She didn’t bother to look his way of course.
Ah! How he could read her, just like his favorite book.
"On witch horse are we betting, y/n?" Abram asked.
"Laterry" she answered kindly, pride spilling from her lips when you felt a laugh to her right.
"Is there a problem, mr Bridgerton?" She asked, Colin smiling sarcastically at her, the fire of duel in his eyes as the two looked at each others.
"Mainance is way faster"
"And you obviously know everything about horses"
"I beg your pardon?"
"I was saying- you’re known to be experienced with horses"
"Y/n Dayton!" Her father roared.
"I was only complimenting mr Bridgerton’s choice of horse papa" a smile on her lips as Colin looked at her half amused, half pissed.
"I certainly do have great taste, something not all of us have" he muttered, his eyes leaving the field as he searched the stands.
"Mr Braidan" his index pointing toward a young man she remembered dancing with a few nights prior "great look but his finances are drained".
A laugh as he pointed towards another man nearby: "ah! Mr Bloomsbury, it’s rumored he has a child with a servant; weren’t you talking to him at the soirée?".
Her eyes on fire as she was about to declare war.
"Oh! Good morning mr. Anderson" Colin suddenly exclaimed, softly bending his hat in a show of good manners to a young man walking by.
"mr. Bridgerton, mr. Dayton" he greeted her father and Colin, finally turning to her: "mrs Dayton, may I say you look prettier than ever, even more than I remembered".
Colin snorted: "Eh she sure does, I haven’t seen you around Anderson. Are your affair in America way more complicated than mere economics?" .
Dead silence fell on the stands as the man quickly looked around "If you excuse me", Anderson left the scene as Colin looked proud at y/n, a whisper leaving his lips: "I’m a far better choice than any of these quacks".
"Well, too bad you’re already taken then" she barked.
Safe to say, not a word was spoken after.
Dear reader, I bet you didn’t miss the race, nor the exultation of mrs y/n Dayton when the horse that goes by 'Laterry' crossed the finish line first.
This Author did not know mrs Dayton was this interested in races, but maybe she is just meant to surprise us more and more, who knows.
