Kazuichi & Yasuke
Summary: Souda Kazuichi’s FTEs in the SDR2 Protagonist Matsuda Yasuke AU. It’s also half and half but for more unfortunate reasons.
Rating: PG
Warnings: Language and references to violence.
Notes: For REASONS, I ended up writing Souda’s FTEs when I initially intended to write Sonia’s. I’m disappointed in myself too, but...hm. I enjoyed writing these. I think it’s fun (?) to write social events where the two parties just don’t get along and that doesn’t change by the end. It’s played seriously, and I’m curious how people will take it. But I wrote these close to the heart!

“Blue skies! Beautiful beaches! Babes! By all accounts, this should be a dream come true! So, why—why, why, why, why, WHY does a guy like YOU gotta be here?!”
“That’s fucking rude,” Matsuda scoffed. “All I’m doing is reading.”
“You keep staring!” Souda accused, shaking his fist in frustration. “And I can feel ya judging, too!! Are you EVER in a good mood?!”
In reality, Souda had been the one to constantly steal glances instead of looking at his own damn magazine. Matsuda, subsequently, had gotten annoyed by it. He really had thought if he focused on his own manga, it’d be fine even with the dipshit mechanic present, but he was a fool. He was a real fucking fool.
Although not as much an idiot as this guy...
“You’re judging!” Souda screeched. “I know you are! Why do you have it out for me?!”
“I don’t,” Matsuda grumbled. “I barely consider you at all.”
“T-That’s hurtful, man! Real hurtful!” Souda even sniffled, he was so hurt by it. “This is why you don’t have any friends!”
...I could leave. I could just...leave. He’s not going to follow me. I could just leave and go someplace quiet.
But, because there wouldn’t be any events if he just left, he was stuck.
Great...
Souda was still glaring at him. He was glaring pretty hard, but also pretty...desperately.
“Even if your face freezes like that, it won’t make you more intimidating,” Matsuda muttered. “Actually no matter what you do, you can’t change that.”
Souda froze immediately. Matsuda gives him a look, but before he can say anything more, the guy flees the scene.
Had the line being broken?
Guess I hit a nerve.
Souda had even abandoned his magazine. Matsuda doubted the guy had the brain capacity to retrieve it later, although he himself hesitates before plucking it off the ground. Thankfully, while it was a little crumbled, it wasn’t sticky. Or oily.
Hm.
He should probably return it.
--
The first thing Souda did upon opening the door was let out a shriek. The second thing he did was slam it in Matsuda’s face.
This fucking guy...
Matsuda took a deep breath and knocked once more on the door.
“Nobody’s here!” Souda’s voice came through muffled. “A-And even if there were somebody—you’re not welcome!”
“For fuck’s sake—I’m just here to give you back your magazine, not because I...” Matsuda bit his tongue, kneeling down. “You know what, I’ll just shove it under...”
“Wait-wait-wait!”
The door was almost flung open, Souda now looking frantic.
“Don’t do that!” he exclaims. “You’ll wrinkle it! You’ll mess with the illustrations! Hasn’t anyone taught you how to treat a magazine?!”
Matsuda straightened up, handing it over without much more fanfare. Souda does take it, but he continues to grumble.
“Seriously, you’re such a slob. That’s like, super unsexy to women. H-Haven’t you heard?”
Matsuda wordlessly glances past into the mechanic’s cottage. There are some miscellaneous gears and gizmos scattered across the floor. Some bottles of what looked to be motor oil. It certainly stank of motor oil.
“Oh, this old thing?” Souda asked, mistaking his staring for interest. He grins suddenly and it might’ve been the first time he’s smile like that at Matsuda. “It’s a lil vroom-vroom I’m working on! Pretty spiffy, huh?”
...spiffy? That’s...something only elderlies would use... Not to mention that’s not even the correct usage?
“I guess you mean it’s neat,” Matsuda muttered.
“I know right?!” Souda exclaimed excitedly. “It’s real neat! It’s gonna be a real wham bam when I’m finished!”
“Right...”
“Right, right!” Souda agreed, nodding frantically now. “You get it, you get it! I guess even a jackass like you still has a right eye for this kinda thing, Matsuda. Just this once, I’ll let you have a closer look! Come in! Don’t be a priss!”
He worked himself up as usual, but I guess this time he at least did so positively.
Mortifyingly curious as to how far this could go, Matsuda does step inside. Souda eagerly gestures to the lump of metal on the ground. Matsuda looks at it closely and—yet.
It’s a lump...of metal. Incredible.
“This baby is gonna go places when it’s done,” Souda sighs happily. “I won’t be able to test it—but I’m sure of it. It’s gonna go far, kid!”
Show him how to lie. You’re getting better all the time.
“I’m sure it will,” Matsuda replied, doing his best to give a decent nod of approval. Souda does preen, but just like that—Souda realizes himself. And he realizes Matsuda.
Specifically, he re-realizes that he and Matsuda don’t have the best relationship.
“You’re not just saying that to make fun of me, right?! You almost got me going, too!”
Although he still seems confused about the intricacies of said relationship.
“It’s nothing like that,” Matsuda waved his hand, shaking his head for good measure. Souda seemed unconvinced, much to his annoyance. “I was just curious.”
Except he really wasn’t. He was the kind of guy who had about as much interest in cars as he did in answering surveys. Souda’s eyes narrowed sharply in suspicion and, seriously, where did this guy get off on presuming so much shit about him?
Matsuda sighed.
Whatever. I delivered the magazine back.
“If I’m not welcome here, I’ll leave.”
He’s not sure what he expected when he turned on his heel. He might not have expected anything, and indeed nothing really happened. He walked out of the cottage, shutting the door behind him, and walked the rest of the way back in silence.
Pretty uneventful overall, but it was still something.
--
“H-H-Hey! Matsuda!”
He supposed he wasn’t really expecting to be called out. When he turned, however, he was already prepared.
“What is it? You better clarify because you’re on a different frequency than I am.”
“Eh? Come on, dude, it’s not like we’re speaking different languages here!” Souda huffed, shoving his hands into his jumpsuit pockets. “I’m just...trying to get yer attention. It’s...like...”
He’s slurring his words a bit.
“You made me feel bad, y’know,” Souda grumbled. “With the way you left. I’m just checking because the last thing I need is you having another reason to...”
“You really are convinced I have something against you, huh,” Matsuda droned, unimpressed. “Would you believe me if I told you that I really don’t care?”
Souda groaned, rolling his eyes.
“Of course you don’t care. You’re a jackass.”
He’s not wrong...but he’s also not right. Not caring goes both ways.
“Hm.” They’d just go in circles at this rate, so it was best to change tactics. “You’re...”
Aah, what to say? Not my type? Not really understanding? This guy...
“You’re here because you say you felt bad.”
“I thought you were supposed to be a genius or something,” Souda huffed. “Like...a brain guy, right?”
“Right.” That doesn’t mean I understand every irrational, idiotic choice a person makes. “I understand the physical sciences. Psychology, however, is its own thing.”
“I mean, I know that,” Souda said, sounding completely unconvincing. “It’s like—the difference between fixing and programming. I can fix a computer, but when it comes to all the typing, clicking, and trouble...finding... I don’t get that stuff.”
“Troubleshooting,” Matsuda corrected.
“Computers aren’t my thing anyway,” Souda went on, unbothered. “I’m more of a vehicle guy!” He lit up so easily. “Like! Vroom, vroom! Wham bam!”
He made other engine noises for that matter.
Matsuda would lie if he said he didn’t find it mildly amusing.
Any moment the two could have had was quickly ruined, however.
“Anyway! There! I spoke to ya!” Souda twisted away. “We’re good, then!”
...it’s not like I’m expecting an apology, but what a shitty fucking thing to just say. And to say loudly, at that.
“Argh! Not good?!” Souda flinched, cowering. “You’re giving me that awful judge-y look again! What is your PROBLEM?!”
For once, the glare was intentional and only intensified, making Souda crumble and whimper.
“C-Cut it out, seriously...! You’re going to make me cry!”
“Is that really my problem?” Matsuda asked coolly. “This is just how my face looks a lot of the time. I can’t control that but you could be less of a fucking coward.”
“I’m not...a coward,” Souda muttered, pulling down his beanie. “I-I’m not! You’re just... You’re such an ass! Seriously! Seriously! How the hell is someone like you—?!”
“Someone like me?” he prodded, eyes half-lidded. Souda recoils whenever he makes any attempt at coming closer. Sure, this dipshit is easily spooked and intimidated, but...
Is there more to it?
“Q-Quit it,” Souda squeaked. “S-Stooooop...”
It’s not...my appearance, is it?
Matsuda backed off anyway, playing with his hair to stave off the irritation. Fidgeting could only do so much.
“I really don’t get it,” Souda said, then, and it sounded almost morose. “It pisses me off so much that you’re the kind of guy that’s just...popular with girls.”
Matsuda pinched a lock of hair hard enough to dig his thumbnail into his finger pad. The pinch did little to soothe his nerves.
I’m more or less hopeless when it comes to tech. A wrench in my hand would only ever be used as a weapon. But, this guy...
“That’s definitely not my problem.”
He’s incredibly basic.
“Maybe you should just take more showers?”
“LIKE YOU’RE ONE TO TALK?!”
A basic bitch for sure.
“Hmm.”
“NO COMEBACK?!”
Matsuda stuck his tongue out, Souda screamed in frustration.
The rest went about as well as anyone could expect.
--
“This really is just the wooooorst,” Souda laments, sounding dangerously close to a sob. “For my first field trip ever, to have it be such a bust is just the woooorst.”
“First time?” Matsuda asked, only feigning curiosity as he flipped the page. He didn’t care, but any conversation was better than listening to more whining. All Matsuda did was sit down to read and he was too spiteful and stubborn to leave when he hadn’t done anything. “Skipped the one in middle school?”
The reason I didn’t go was to study, but for a guy like this...
“Huh? Oh, yeah...” Souda shrugged. “I uh, faked being sick and stayed home instead. Not like I could go with how poor my folks were—not like I wanted to go with how shitty my boring asshole classmates were. My old man was pissed though. Beat the shit out of me.”
“I guess overcompensation ran in the family,” Matsuda muttered, but Souda hadn’t heard him.
“He knew we couldn’t afford it, too,” he just went on. “We had this bike shop but like—not super, uh...”
“Profitable?” Matsuda guessed, to which he nodded along.
“Yeah, people just wanted to fix tires and pump air. We barely sold anything.” Souda sighed loudly before grinning and pointing to himself with a jerk of his thumb. “But! Yours truly still turned out to be a genius mechanic! From bikes to cars! Toys to appliances! You got it, I fix it!”
“You’d make a lot more money as a mechanic than a bike salesman,” Matsuda noted. “It’s a well-paying and sought-after service.”
“I’ve been taking apart and reconstructing things since I could walk,” Souda said proudly. “Even though my old man is just—hopeless!”
“Hopeless,” Matsuda echoed disinterestedly.
“That said, I was still looking forward to this trip,” Souda sighed again. “It sounds nice to go on a trip with friends and stuff, but...you and I are like...the furthest thing from friends.” He does perk up when he remembers, “I guess Hinata’s alright. He’s kinda cool. A real soul bro. Soul pal? Soul friend!”
In that case, why aren’t you seeking his company?
Matsuda’s not quite that petty. Not to mention how childish it’d make him sound while asking that aloud. It’s not like he has a problem with Souda and Hinata getting along.
Although...
Hinata has a thing for Komaeda. That might end up complicating that soul bromance or whatever down the line.
Not that it had anything to do with him.
“I have an unlikeable personality,” he just reminded Souda sardonically. “I didn’t come to Hope’s Peak expecting or wanting to make friends.”
The idea is just...absurd. I haven’t been able to connect with peers in over a decade, why the hell would that change now?
“I know!” Souda groused. “Which is why! A guy like you just shouldn’t be LIKED by girls! Who knows how you’d treat them! If you don’t watch yourself, your alarm clock’s gonna get modified into a ticking time bomb!”
“Try it, coward,” Matsuda snapped, making him falter back. “I fucking dare you.”
“E-Eep...! W-Why do you have to make such a scary face, Matsuda...?!”
“...it’s just how I look.”
Haaaah. This is exhausting. So...exhausting.
“Bad looks and a bad personality, but even you can admit I’m a genius, yeah?” Matsuda turned away. “When you’re smart, people flock to you either as a crutch or a springboard. Especially when you’re young.”
“I mean, I’m a genius too,” Souda grumbled. “I actually could just...modify clocks into bombs if I...really wanted to...”
“I want to change the very scope of neurology,” Matsuda went on, ignoring him this time. “I’m going to make it so that no person will ever be lost to us again.”
“Wait...you’re gonna like...cure death?” Souda asked, gawking. “T-That’s...dude...!”
Matsuda couldn’t help but smirk, all too aware of the growing alarm in the mechanic’s eyes.
“If you could just upload a person’s consciousness to a computer like a program... That’d change more than just our understanding of the brain. It’d challenge our understanding of humanity itself.”
Souda went pale.
“T-That’s, uh...”
“Of course it’s pretty unlikely,” Matsuda said, shaking his head. “And so absurdly sci-fi to the point of fantasy.”
But... It could have been possible at Hope’s Peak. Not on this stupid fucking island though.
“It was a joke. You’re supposed to laugh.”
Souda was left in stunned silence.
“I guess it was a bad joke,” Matsuda admits grumpily.
“Y-You know, I, uh... I just wanted to make a rocket ship someday,” Souda says, slowly and stupidly unsure. “But, you, uh... Your ambitions are fucking scary. Count me out.”
Just like that, Souda stood up and left. Without another word.
That was more or less what Matsuda learned to expect.
--
I really do just have a bad personality.
He knows this already, obviously. But it’s a fact that gets hammered in sometimes. Especially right now, when he sees Souda chatting amicably with Hinata. Souda’s wearing a smile that’s only been directed at Matsuda a couple of times. Even when Souda falters, Hinata ends up saying something that makes him perk right back up.
Hinata’s not that social of a guy in the first place.
The two of them banter with ease even when it’s clear that Hinata still gets exasperated by the other’s antics. Then—something is said. Souda’s expression changes into one of frustration and unease. Hinata’s worried, but when Souda excuses himself, Hinata makes no move to follow him. Likely to give the other space. Be respectful. All that.
Matsuda does trail after Souda, however. He’s not a considerate or patient guy. It’s why he doesn’t have any friends.
“Urgh, hate this, hate this, hate this,” Souda’s muttering under his breath through gritted teeth. “Seriously, why did this have to happen? There’s no escape...the ships and planes are useless...no engines... What the hell can I even do...?!”
“Boo.” Matsuda blew into the mechanic’s ear. “Gimme your lunch money.”
Souda screamed loud enough to blow off mountaintops. Matsuda thankfully had the foresight to cover his ears.
“M-M-M-MATSUDA?!” Souda yelped. “What the actual FUCK was that?!”
“A prank,” is his droning response. “You can laugh now.”
“THAT SHIT WASN’T FUNNY!” Souda screeched back. “Y-You, you, you—! Fucking watch it! I’m not in any mood to be messed with!”
Matsuda waved his hands.
“Alright, alright.”
Souda gave him a withering look. After a while, he backed up even more.
“...why are you here? A-Are you here to...?”
Matsuda waved his hands again, shaking his head for good measure.
“If I were, I wouldn’t have gotten your attention.”
“T-That could just be part of the trap!” Souda sputters. “Y-You... You’re not playing with me, are you?!”
...I was, but not because I wanted to murder you. Jeez. I like to think I’d be more pragmatic.
“You’re free to scream, then,” he said simply. “Scream as loud as you can. It can even be my name if you want.”
Souda shuddered.
“U-Urgh...dude, seriously... You’re just messed up,” he groans, burying his face into his hands. “What I’d give for a vehicle to get as far from you as possible. Even if I get sick afterward, it’d be worth it.”
“Haha,” Matsuda droned without a hint of mirth. “Sure.”
“Come to think of it, if anyone would be tempted to be the one to escape at the expense of everyone else...” Souda does raise his head to give him a look.
Matsuda stared back.
“You don’t know me,” he said. “You don’t know shit about me.”
“I-I don’t know,” Souda huffed, feigning assurance. “I think I’ve been around ya long enough to get a good idea of your character. And you’ve got like—scary ambitions.”
I’m not a considerate person, nor am I patient. I know I should be. It would ultimately make my life a lot easier.
“By that logic, I must know you pretty well in return,” he said.
Souda scoffed.
“Yeah, right. You’re just trying to psyche...”
“Dyed hair. Contacts.” Matsuda gestures to the entirety of him. “The way a person chooses to look says a lot about them.”
Souda’s mouth immediately shut, all blood draining from his face. It was easy. Too easy.
“Wonder what happened? Was it just bullying? Or a betrayal?” Matsuda went on. “People who change their natural appearance like that usually have something deeper to throw away.”
“Don’t—talk about shit you have no idea about...!” Souda growled. “It’s none of your damn business!”
He’s so basic.
It’s true I don’t know what I’m talking about, but you’re still falling for it, aren’t you?
“I’m not the traitor,” he says simply. “If I were, I’d manipulate you to like me. You’re about as easy to play as a cheap kazoo.”
Being a little cruel, aren’t you?
His head’s starting to hurt. For some reason—he himself feels sick. And Souda, well...
Souda’s already sniffling. In tears. Whatever he tries to say just comes out as blubbering. It’s pitiful. So much so that Matsuda pulls back with a groan.
His head really, really hurt. He rifles through his pocket, pulling out a handkerchief and a pill bottle. He lays the former on top of Souda’s quivering head before prying open the bottle. As he turns on his heel, he pops a couple into his mouth and swallows them dry with a groan.
He needed a nap after all that, thus he’s on his way.
--
“Hey. You.” Souda jerked his thumb off to the distance. “We’re going. We need to have a talk.”
“Huh. Kay.”
Once they got to the beach, Souda took several deep breathes. Psyching himself up for what was to come.
There really were only a number of ways things would culminate. A simple exchange of words was not going to be it.
“Y-You—!”
At the same time, when Souda spun on his heel—
“OOF! L-Let go! Let go!”
Matsuda was a bit surprised that Souda had the gall to throw a punch first. Not so surprised that he lacked the reflexes to dodge, to seize the mechanic by the arm. He threw the mechanic down, pinning him down front-first into the sand with Matsuda sitting on his back. Souda yelped when his arm was twisted in Matsuda’s grip.
“L-Let go,” he choked out, slapping the sand. “U-Urgh... Urgh...!”
His eyes were screwed shut, likely to keep the sand out.
“S-Seriously?! You couldn’t let me throw one punch for what an asshole you’ve been?!”
“I mean, if you want to upset the princess, that’s your prerogative,” Matsuda hummed before pulling back. “Unfortunately, I don’t like getting punched if I can avoid it.”
“T-Then what about—?!” Souda ended up coughing. The idiot must have inhaled some sand. Feeling bad for him, Matsuda helped him to his feet. Souda’s still coughing pitifully. “Urgh... You’re suuuuch a piece of wooooork.”
“I carry scalpels around,” Matsuda reminded him, making him freeze. A look of fear and then—that fright melted into exasperation.
“Alright,” Souda sighed, rubbing his forehead. “Alright, I get it. You really like flaunting, don’t ya? You’re the worst.”
Matsuda hummed, but Souda went on.
“Y’know...you’re scarily good at reading people, too. You were right about me. I changed my appearance to throw my old self away,” he admits. “I used to be a cowardly loser who thought highly of anyone who bothered to give me the time of day. Even if they lied to me...even if they betrayed me. I was just too much of a wimp to admit that I was being taken advantage of.”
I was just guessing, Matsuda internally admitted. And I still think you’re a coward and a loser. But for different reasons.
“Accepting vulnerability is the first step,” he ended up saying. “You can’t just say you’ll change even if you’re dramatic about it.”
“W-Well, a lot did change when I...changed...” Souda trails off.
“But not the kind of positive change you were hoping for,” Matsuda guessed again. “Were you uncomfortable?”
Souda blanched.
“God, I hate to admit it, but...you’re too sharp for your own good.”
Matsuda said nothing.
“You’re smart. You’re really fucking smart.” Souda gritted his teeth and met his gaze head-on. “That’s why—I’m gonna keep my guard up around ya.”
“That’s fine,” Matsuda replied, shrugging. “There are people you can relax around, and people you can’t. I don’t blame you at all.”
“You’re fine with it,” Souda reiterated as if he wasn’t sure. “Even if...I never trust you...or believe in you... You’re just...fine with it?”
“I’m fine,” Matsuda repeated. “Are you?”
Souda flinched.
“I... Geez! Playing those sick head games with me again!” He shook his head furiously, covering it with his hands as if that’d be a good defense. “W-Well! I won’t let ya! Better fucking watch yourself, Matsuda! Don’t even THINK of trying anything funny!”
“Got it,” Matsuda droned with disinterest. “Would you like to shake on it?”
“K-Keep away from me,” Souda yelped, nearly tripping over his own feet. “Just—just stay the hell away from me! I’m gonna keep an eye on you, but... I don’t want to have to deal with you if I don’t have to!”
“Alright. Fine.”
Souda gave him a suspicious look. He got flustered and quickly turned away. Without looking at Matsuda, he blindly threw back the handkerchief. It only fluttered to the ground, landing in the sand.
“Save your pity,” Souda muttered darkly. “Goodbye.”
When Souda left, it was with an air of finality. Matsuda decided to just leave things like that between them.
Kneeling down to retrieve his handkerchief, Matsuda did pause for a moment. He shook the sand off the fabric.
“...I don’t plan on betraying anyone, not even you,” he spoke slowly and stupidly. “I do in fact...care about lives and I don’t want to see them lost.”
Would that have really been so hard to say?
He really did have such an awful personality. Even if it wouldn’t have worked out for him, it wouldn’t have hurt to have tried.
There are people you can relax around and people that you can’t. There are people you can be friends with and people you that can’t. People you should trust and people that you shouldn’t. You can’t always control which one you’ll be, because it all depends on how others feel. You can’t control that. Even if that’s technically true...
He feels like he’s making excuses. It feels bad.
His head hurting doesn’t help. As he gripped that handkerchief, he took notice of a crab burying itself in the sand down below.
I should do better. I should be better. Maybe if I tell myself enough times, it’ll happen.

TAFAKKUR: Part 229
WHAT ALGORITHMS IMPLY FOR US: Part 1
Different people have different styles of handling situations; as the proverb says “Different strokes for different folks.” Another proverb “Two heads are better than one,” on the other hand, invites us to ask for the opinions of others. God has created mankind with diverse temperaments and talents. One of the advantages to this is that people are capable of approaching matters from different angles and finding different solutions to the same problems. An ability to act in accordance with this wisdom allows for intelligent co-operation among human beings, resulting in many positive attributes.
As is the case in many scientific arenas, the first studies in the field of algorithms were conducted by Muslim scientists. The concept of algorithm was used for the first time by the worldwide renowned Muslim scientist Al-Khwarizmi, who lived between 780–850 AD in Baghdad. Al Khwarizmi put his name to historic studies in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, and geography. His work entitled Hisāb al-jabr wa-l-muqābala (Calculation by Completion and Balancing) constitutes the first collection of algorithms. The Latin translation attracted great attention in Europe. The Europeans used the term algoritmi, rendered from “Khwarizmi,” to refer to rules for solving arithmetical problems by using Arabic numerals.
Having first developed as a branch of mathematics, algorithms have been described as a sequence of instructions that is used to solve a certain problem. These finite number of steps, begin at a certain point and come to an end with a result. But, today when we talk about algorithms, what comes to mind are the methods pursued in the operations of sequencing in computer programming; though algorithms are used in many fields, including physics, chemistry, biology, and music.
When different algorithms are used for solving the same problem, this enables us to reach the same solution through different means. There are, for instance, a great number of sorting algorithms (selection sorting, merge sorting, quick sorting) that have been developed for the purpose of incrementally sorting a given set of numbers. The same also applies to the search algorithms which find a given number in a set of numbers. What does this imply for us? Different people can attempt to solve the same problem with different algorithms or approaches that are better, truer or more “beautiful”. Thus, it is always important not to reject an idea without a prior examination or understanding, to welcome proposals of different opinions and to try to benefit from better alternatives or solutions. Thus, we can understand from an algorithmic approach that establishing dialogue and showing mutual respect are essential moral virtues in transforming differences into wealth.
Computer algorithms solve certain problems according to pre-defined parameters. Thus, we should never forget that computers cannot carry out a spontaneous operation, but can only carry out functions that have previously been programmed into them by human beings. Although some researchers, by relying too much on recent developments in computer sciences, and particularly in fields like artificial intelligence, attribute human characteristics to computers. They even estimate that they can produce human-like things in the near future, which seems rather unfeasible when we consider countless physical and spiritual features of humans. What does this imply for us? Pursuing a systematic method when solving problems in both computer sciences and daily life would considerably increase one’s success rate in solving any problems encountered. The most critical stages in problem solving are obviously a correct diagnosis and full description of the problem. The algorithms are developed and the most coherent and suitable are then chosen.
After an algorithm is designed in a flowchart, it is translated into software and tested against verifiable data prior to its usage in real operations. This test is necessary to prevent probable flaws in the software. What does this imply for us? By utilizing all the talents and especially the intelligence granted to us, human beings are always able to find what is better or truer. Research has been conducted in scientific studies by keeping in mind that there is always a next step in any development that has been achieved; the experience of the history of mankind demonstrates that a method that has been developed today might prove to be inadequate tomorrow.
When analyzing a number of different algorithms that are used to solve the same problem, the cost is assessed, with the least costly and most suitable one being selected. The cost of an algorithm is determined according to the number of operations carried out in solving any problem. An algorithm which solves the same problem with a greater number of steps has a lesser efficiency and a lesser performance.

anti-cheating software - a list of resources for students
I found a list of anti-cheating software that some schools use. I’m compiling a list of what they are, what they do, and how to tell if your school is using them.
this isn’t to help anyone cheat or whatever so don’t come for me. it’s just useful information to have so you don’t get an angry email about copying and pasting things from google when all you were trying to do is copy and paste the √ symbol so you could show your work on a math question. not speaking from personal experience or anything.
also, this is morally challenging for me in more ways than one. there’s the question of the ethicality of schools using what is essentially spyware to monitor students taking tests. is it okay because it’s installed only on school-issued computers, not personal ones? is it okay because it’s in the name of academic integrity? honestly I’m not sure, but that’s not what this post is here to discuss. I only bring these things up because I don’t want people coming after me and getting mad lol. all this post is about is informing students of the software their school might be using so they can determine how likely they are to get caught if they do decide to cheat and evaluate if it’s worth it or not. and like I said earlier, it can also be super helpful in avoiding accidentally getting pinged as cheating lmao. knowledge is power and all that.
• GoFormative
This in and of itself is not anti-cheating software. But if your school has you take tests with GoFormative, you should know that it does have anti-cheating software in it.
GoFormative can tell when you copy and paste from “any source.” The discussion I found specifically mentions “webpages, documents, [and] PDFs.” This isn’t the same as plagiarism detectors because in another discussion, a teacher was notified about a one-word answer being copied and pasted, and one word can’t be plagiarized. According to the discussions I found, teachers will get a red exclamation point on answers that contain copy and pasted material and can see which website you copy and pasted from.

• LanSchool
If LanSchool has been downloaded on your school device, basically just know that you are being monitored at all times. Can teachers see your screen at all times if they choose? Yep. Can teachers “[s]ave screenshots of a student’s screen to share in parent/teacher conferences or conversations with the student?” Most definitely. Can teachers get notifications when you search a specific term? You betcha!
When I say that everything you do is being monitored, I mean everything. It’s not just your browsing history and application use being saved (although that’s definitely happening). Every single press of your keyboard is also being saved. “All web browsing, application usage, and even keystroke history can be captured and viewed later...”
This application does a lot more than just that, so here is the link to all its features if you’re curious.
How to tell if your computer has LanSchool on it:
“A LanSchool icon (green circle of circles) appears in the system tray at the bottom right corner of the computer screen in Windows. On the Mac it appears as a small icon at the top of the screen. On Ubuntu, the LanSchool icon is located in the center of the panel.”
If that doesn’t help, check out this form to see if it gives you more information.

• GoGuardian
This one seems really similar to LanSchool so I won’t go over it too much. Teachers can see student screens, block certain websites, etc. but it doesn’t seem as... invasive and dystopian as LanSchool. (When I was doing research for the LanSchool part of this post, I found a really concerning article that literally sounds like something out of a science fiction novel. But anyways...) Here is the listed features on their website. Here is an article about how to tell if your school computer has GoGuardian on it. If you can’t access the article right now, basically look for a blue circle with a white triangle in it and a black circle with a triangle in it at the top right corner of your screen when youre on the google homepage. You can also look at the browser extensions that are installed, but this seems to be the easiest way.
• Hapara
Again, this one is quite similar to GoGuardian. Here is what it does. To see if it is installed, look for a symbol of three rectangles decreasing in size from right to left. The one furthest to the left is dark blue. The middle one is lime green. The one on the right is a lighter blue. This link might provide more information if that doesn’t help.
• LockDown Browser
What is it? Well... “LockDown Browser is a locked browser for taking exams and quizzes in Canvas. It prevents you from printing, copying, going to an unauthorized URL, or accessing other applications during a quiz. If a Canvas quiz requires that LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to take the quiz with a standard web browser. LockDown Browser should only be used for taking Canvas quizzes. It should not be used in other areas of Canvas.”
This one is different than the others on this list because it uses your webcam... “You may be required to use LockDown Browser with a webcam, which will record you during an online, non- proctored exam. (The webcam feature is sometimes referred to as “Respondus Monitor.”)” ...and tracks your eye movement. “Respondus Monitor is a proctoring application that uses a lockdown browser and a webcam to assist with the academic integrity of online exams. ... Respondus will record student movements and will automatically flag the exam if a student leaves the view, if their eyes wander, or if another person comes into the screen.”
As far as I can tell, since this program is specifically for Canvas quizzes, that’s the only time it will be used. So if you’re taking a test in Canvas, expect to have your camera be recording you and your screen to be monitored. You will also probably be locked into the tab the test is on and unable to open new tabs while the test is in progress. If you are being recorded, there will be a camera icon and text that says “recording” at the top right corner of your screen.

This post is incomplete.
These are just some of the anti-cheating programs out there, and I want to keep updating this post as I discover more. If you have any information, questions, comments, or concerns, my messages and asks are open. Or you can put more information, corrections, and links in the reblogs.

I prefer to my QA division show what a dunce I may have been dealing with an insect/ carrying out an attribute than have a hundred client situations opened up since it wasn't captured prior to launch. You may want to have a look at the corporate society and the way in which the groups collaborate with respect to eachother to find your solution. I'm presently a tester, I write practically as much code as I composed as a dev as well as my buddy in the business is a dev as well as most of us get on. An also larger megatrend is IoT, which is readied to rise to a brand-new degree, particularly with the "wise connection" that 5G will certainly bring.

Strong mathematical as well as analytical skills are crucial to the duty information analysts play, notably knowledge of data-- collection and organization of large sets of information are central to the task summary. Furthermore, some firms might call for quantifiable programs acumen. Search Engine Optimization professionals collaborate with designers as well as web developers to make sure Search Engine Optimization ideal techniques are being executed across a website/web application. Some UXers concentrate on user research study solely, while others may be extra involved with prototyping products.
This is why open source frameworks for examination automation will certainly mature to support the testing of voice commands. Another relatively unstoppable fad is voice recognition, with voice-driven innovation developed into several phones as well as other consumer tools. When testing software as well as mobile applications, voice acknowledgment brings some troubles. The volume of test situations will certainly boost exponentially, introducing the danger of longer feedback cycles and also slower releases. There is no time at all to be shed in ensuring software program examination labs await what is anticipated to be among the most significant trends of 2020 and beyond.
Easy Ways To Be An Effective Software Program Tester.
Which course is best for software testing?
It is always a good idea to join any Software Testing institute or class which will provide you a good start and direction for preparation. You can join any 4 months duration Software Testing course or can do a diploma in Software Testing which is probably 6 months to 1 year.
While PWAs are readied to test mobile native apps, they will both require to co-exist in the electronic room. https://www.pinterest.com/stormvasquez/ require to prepare solid advancement as well as testing strategies to cover both sorts of applications. The software market has altered a lot within the past ten years. As well as while it is difficult to anticipate precisely what the following decade will bring, it will definitely introduce a whole brand-new set of obstacles for testing and also QA experts.
A Look To The Future Of Software Testing.
Any difficulty is a lot more concerning the certain innovation (e.g. file systems vs. script interfaces) than the general function. Examination designers usually go broad as well as to tool deepness, though they often go deep simply for enjoyable. SDE code, on the other hand, is often anticipated to run forever without reboot, to survive unforeseen problems, as well as to act in a proscribed method each situation. SDET code is better to model code high quality, while SDE code is expected to be bullet-proof. For example, if someone wrote an API set, an SDET created exhaustive tests for the API individually and jointly.
How long does it take to learn software testing?
Many employers look for software tester candidates with a bachelor's degree in computer science, math or engineering, although it's not always required. If you've got a lot of experience, a stable work history and solid references or letters of recommendation, it's possible to land a job without a college degree.
Hands-on testing is an activity where the tester needs to be extremely patient, creative & open minded. The essential idea of hands-on testing is to make sure that the application is error complimentary as well as it is operating in conformance to the defined useful demands. A solid knowledge with a wide range of technology items and problems combined with strong interaction abilities are necessary to this setting.
Someone requires to see to it both groups are worked with as well as on the same web page. I understand of specific testers and also specific developers who do not like each various other, but not for the factors you mentioned however instead due to the fact that they make help each various other. I would certainly think it happens beause the designers create a program, and they perceive that the testers then try to find imperfections in it.
Interface Developer.
The electronic globe is effectively seeking software program applications that are released much faster without concession in the top quality of the applications.
Previously, the demand for testing teams was limited only for performing application testing, and now the value of QA is effectively increasing.
RPA can additionally be called as an extension of Automation as it can be put on anything which is in a structured kind, unlike automation which requires a software to function upon.
With this testing practice, it ends up being simpler for the groups to validate the effectiveness of the app's protection controls as well as determine the dangers that are subjected to susceptabilities.
If you are looking for participation in the growing tech scene however don't understand just how to code, ratings of profession opportunitiesin tech require no coding skills in any way. If this occurs a whole lot, it can stress connections between the groups.
How can I get a job in software testing?
Testers require good coding knowledge when they go after an automation testing or white box testing. Throughout the agile process, the tester will work with one or more programmers to write test. So for creating an automatable test, it is imperative for testers to know the code.
When IoT ends up being truly traditional in all most components of our lives, an extremely innovative cloud-based laboratory is mosting likely to be crucial for testing IoT applications. Even now, it is already intricate to test the range of OS as well as devices offered today, and that will just raise in accordance with higher quantities and sorts of clever tools. Testing voice commands calls for very advanced systems and techniques, and also those will certainly raise as the adoption of voice command features increases.
They 'd likewise compose cardiovascular test, performance tests, check resource usage, correctness, and so on. STEs had a tendency to do hands-on testing that was also costly to automate. For example, configuring a collection of 20 makers in a variety of different network geographies, as well as testing their end-to-end connectivity with scriptable devices, by hand, or with tools SDETs created for them. The program costs ₤ 199 as well as is a 6.5 hour on-demand video clip program that also has downloadable reading product and a certification upon completion. PayScale states the ordinary salary of a software program tester in the UNITED STATE is almost $56,000, but it can climb up much higher depending on the firm, city and also your certifications.
Guarantee Suitable Work Environment For Qa Team.
Whenever somebody finds defects in something you put great deals of effort in, it's possibly a natural reaction to respond negatively towards them. As irritating as obtaining solutions denied by testers may be, it is far, much (did I claim far?) even worse getting mistake records from consumers.
Luckily, Google blog sites a great deal about their testing and QA processes, therefore, we can obtain understanding from their experiment Google Tester's Blog site. Software testing is must give a high quality product without bugs or concern. They call for various sorts of believing and different focus in code artefacts.

The Nose Knows, Chapter 2 (NaNoWriMo 2018)
I was able to finish the chapter earlier than I expected! Enjoy!
Chapter Rating: T
Chapter warnings: Canon-typical violence, mild language, more gratuitous usage of French language and the French education system. Mild spoilers for the the season 2 episode “Troublemaker.”

Chapter 2
Monday dawned bright and early, as it was wont to do; the halls and classrooms of Lycée Jean-Baptiste Magnier were buzzing with activity. Some students feverishly scribbled the last bits of their weekend assignments, while others caught up with their friends after the weekend before making their way to their respective classrooms.
Marinette walked into her classroom, waving at Nathaniel and Mylène. "Good morning!" she said as she took her seat.
"Good morning, Marinette!" Mylène replied. "How was your Sunday?" Mylène and Ivan had been at the movies with the rest of the group on Saturday. The two had continued to date all through high school, and according to Mylène, they were looking at finding a university they could attend together.
"Ugh, crazy busy," Marinette replied. "I was working until nearly midnight on the Philosophy project for M. Leroux. I had a hard time staying awake; Aristotle is such a bore."
"Yeah, I had to do mine on Socrates, so I feel your pain. At least they're done, though, right?"
"Exactly. And this week should be easy since we have the practice tests for the Bac next week." Marinette sighed and leaned her head on her arms on top of her desk, closing her eyes in an attempt to catch one more wink of sleep before class started.
However, she quickly perked up when she heard a familiar male voice at the doorway. Lifting her head, she smiled when she saw her desk partner saying goodbye to his girlfriend with a quick peck before he stepped into the classroom. "Hey Marinette! Alya wanted me to give this to you." Nino approached their desk and handed Marinette a flash drive with a white and orange color scheme before taking his seat.
"Oh, this must be the notes I asked for! Thanks, Nino, I really appreciate you bringing them."
"No problem, dude!"
Nino, Nathaniel, and Mylène were the only students from her class at Françoise Dupont that had joined her in the Literature track at Lycée Jean-Baptiste Magnier. Thankfully, some of her other friends were in the school with her, just taking different classes. Adrien, Alya, and Ivan were in the Economics and Social Sciences track, while Alix and Rose were in the Science track. The rest of their group of friends had gone on to other high schools throughout the city--Chloé, for instance, was at a prestigious private school full of international students, where she got to rub elbows with the children of ambassadors and celebrities. Max had gone off to a feeder school for one of the most illustrious engineering universities in the country, planning to go into computer science, while Kim, Sabrina, and Juleka were at another local public school. Marc Anciel, Nathaniel's boyfriend, was also at Lycée Jean-Baptiste Magnier, but as he was a year behind them, he and Nathaniel didn't share any classes.
"So Marinette," Nathaniel asked from his seat behind the pig-tailed girl. "With the Bac practice tests next week, do you have any study plans this upcoming weekend? Rose and Alix are coming over on Saturday afternoon after class, you're welcome to come if you want."
"Thanks for the offer, Nathaniel, but I've already got study plans with Alya and Nino. We're making a full day of it at my place on Sunday. Right, Nino?"
Nino nodded in agreement. "Yep! I'm bringing the tunes, Alya's bringing the drinks, and you're providing the snacks. And if Adrien can get away from his dad, he said he'd like to come too, if that's okay."
"Oh, y-yeah, that's fine!" Marinette's voice broke a bit as she replied, a hint of a blush crossing her cheeks. Even after actively trying to get over Adrien by dating Juleka’s brother Luka (which made her realize that the two of them were definitely better suited as friends than in a relationship), she still had feelings for the blond. She might have outgrown the worst of her obsessive crush on the model, but now her feelings were deeper, especially as the two had finally been able to become real friends. Clearing her throat, she continued, "Of course Adrien is welcome to come. I can't imagine he's going to have any problems with the Bac, though, he's so smart."
Nino just shrugged. "I dunno, Marinette, he seemed pretty nervous about it when he asked me to ask you if he could come. He's probably more stressed out about it than he lets on, especially with how busy his schedule's been lately."
"That's fair. I know his dad has been pulling him out of school more recently for work. I'm just glad Alya shares classes with him so she's been able to help him keep up with his assignments and class notes."
"Don't I know it. It seems like every day the two of them are talking about school stuff and she's constantly giving him files. If I didn't know any better I'd think the two of them were planning something behind my back."
Before Marinette had a chance to reply, the History teacher stepped in to start class. Despite her best efforts to force herself to pay attention, Marinette found herself leaning her head on one hand, the other doodling idly in the corner of her paper as her mind wandered. It had been a while since Adrien had been to her house-- she actually couldn't think of any time since collège, when he came over to practice playing Ultimate Mecha Strike III for the video game tournament. (Though he did see her bedroom during the whole Jagged Stone/Troublemaker incident, but that didn't count since he wasn't technically there for it.) When Alya came over to her place to hang out, they usually spent most of the time in her bedroom, but there wasn't exactly a lot of sitting space for four up there. And if they were going to have their books and study materials spread out, the dining room table or living room would make a lot more sense. However, being in a common area would mean more distractions from her mother--or, Lord forbid, her father, as nosy as he was--especially if Adrien did come to the study party. On the other hand, being downstairs would lead to far fewer questions about what they were getting up to, and would make them all more accountable to actually studying for the Bac rather than just goofing off…
A sudden elbow to her ribs caused Marinette to jump, looking around quickly. "Huh?"
"Mlle. Dupain-Cheng, did you hear me?" Marinette flushed as she realized her teacher had been speaking to her.
"I'm very sorry, Mme. Chevalier… could you repeat that?"
The History teacher pursed her lips together as she stood at the chalkboard, obviously displeased with Marinette's lack of attention. "If you aren't going to listen to me, you may step outside until the end of class. And no getting notes from any other students," she added with a glare in Nino's direction.
"I'll pay attention, Mme. Chevalier. Again, I am very sorry." Marinette couldn't feel any worse if she tried. She knew that it was a very important time for her to be on top of her studies, as the practice exams were coming up and the Baccalauréat was the one thing that could make or break her chances of getting into university to study fashion design.
"Very well then. Could you explain the reasoning behind Napoléon Bonaparte's decision to invade the Russian empire in 1812?"
"Bonaparte had two goals for the Russian campaign: firstly, his official reasoning for the invasion was that he wanted to liberate Poland from the Russians. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, he wanted to force Tsar Nicholas I to stop trading with the British, which violated the Continental Blockade."
"That's correct." Mme. Chevalier continued on with her lesson on the Russian Campaign, but once again Marinette found she couldn't keep her attention on the teacher despite her best efforts. It came as a blessing when the class period ended without her being called upon again.
"Thank God for free periods," Marinette said as she and Nino left the classroom. "I'm going to go hunt down Alya before next period. You have fun in Music Theory!"
"Oh, yeah, sure," Nino deadpanned. "M. Berlioz has us doing oral presentations this week since the Bac practice tests are all written."
"Ouch. Well, good luck with it!"
"Thanks, Marinette. See you in Philosophy class!"
Marinette ducked into a nearby bathroom on her way to find Alya, waiting for the other girls to filter out before she was left alone as the next class period started. Once Marinette was sure she had the room to herself, she opened her purse to let Tikki out. "Tikki, did you hear what Nino said? Adrien wants to come over to my house on Sunday!"
"That's great, Marinette! I'm sure the four of you will have a lot of fun studying for your test!" Tikki smiled at her holder. "Just make sure you leave me some cookies!"
"Of course," Marinette said with a grin. "In fact, before they come over I'll make sure to bring some up to you, fresh out of the oven."
"Oh, Marinette, that's so nice of you to offer!" Tikki giggled.
Marinette opened her mouth to say something else when a sudden rumble shook the school. "An Akuma? But there hasn't been one in weeks…"
Tikki zipped into Marinette's purse. "You'd better go out and double check. You don't want to transform if it's nothing, but better to be safe than sorry."
Marinette nodded. "You're right." Closing her purse to hide her Kwami, Marinette pushed the door to her stall open, but before she could get out of the bathroom, another sudden shock wave rocked the school, knocking her off her feet and sending her careening head-first into a porcelain sink.
Hearing the thud, Tikki cried out, "Marinette? What happened?" When her holder didn't answer, Tikki phased through the purse. She gasped when she saw Marinette's lifeless body. "Oh no! Marinette, wake up!" She flew up to Marinette's head, checking for her pulse and looking for any signs of injury. There was a bump rapidly coming up on her forehead, but no blood, and her pulse was strong. Unfortunately, with Marinette being unconscious, there was no way for her to call on Tikki's power to transform.
Another rumble shook the school once again, this time accompanied by screams and a roar of pain and anger. Tikki partially phased through the bathroom door to peek outside, seeing a large, hulking form covered in what appeared to be gemstones. "I am Gemocide! Bring me Ladybug and Chat Noir, or I'll turn the whole school into crystals and crush them into dust!" the Akuma cried out.
Past the Akuma, on the other side of the school courtyard, a blonde and a brunette were sneaking away from their classroom, ducking underneath windows to avoid being spotted by anyone inside the other classes. "Come on, Alya, you know it's not safe!" Adrien hissed, following his best friend's headstrong girlfriend as she tried to get closer to the Akuma, cell phone in hand.
"Look, Adrien, you don't have to follow me if you don't want to. I'm going to get this scoop for the Ladyblog! This is the first Akuma we've had in weeks!" Alya gave Adrien her patented "just-try-to-stop-me" look as she crept closer to the courtyard.
Shaking his head, Adrien let Alya get a few steps ahead of him before he ducked down an empty hallway that led to a supply closet. He opened the closet door as quietly as possible in an effort not to catch Alya's attention. As soon as the door was shut behind him, Plagg zipped out of his shirt pocket. "It's about time! I was starting to get really bored," Plagg complained.
"Quit your belly-aching," Adrien muttered. "Plagg, claws out!"
Moments later, after a flash of green light, Chat Noir popped out of the supply closet, launching himself toward the main area of the school. However, before he could even get out of the hallway, he was stopped short by the sight of a tiny red creature with black spots floating in the air in front of him. He felt an odd sense of recognition when he saw the thing, the smell of warm cookies and sugary sweets filling his nostrils. It took him a moment to realize why it looked so familiar.
"You're Ladybug's Kwami, right? What are you doing here? Where is she?"
The tiny pixie-like creature nodded in confirmation. "Yes, my name is Tikki. Ladybug will be here shortly, but I found a student that needs help. She's in danger!"
"All right, I'm here. Lead the way!" Tikki flew back down the way she came, Chat loping along on all fours in an effort to keep up with the surprisingly speedy Kwami. When they came to the women's restroom, Chat stopped just outside the doorway. "Um, Tikki, I don't know if you know this, but I'm not allowed to go in there…"
"I think in this situation it's okay for a superhero to go into the girl's bathroom!" Tikki said, crossing her arms over her chest. "The girl in here is one of Ladybug's close friends and she needs your help!"
"All right! All right, I'm going." Adrien pushed the door open, his eyes darting around but mostly staying near the ceiling until he confirmed that there wasn't anyone screaming at him to get out. When he looked down, he gasped at the sight of Marinette lying unconscious on the floor, a nasty-looking goose egg bruising on her forehead. "Oh god! Marinette!"
"You know her?" Tikki asked curiously.
"Y-yeah, I've-- I mean, there was that incident with the Evillustrator a few years ago, and I've seen her a few times since then…" Chat was thankful that his mask hid his cheeks, otherwise he knew they would be as red as Tikki's skin. He was not going to admit to Ladybug's Kwami how often he stopped by Marinette's balcony just to check in on her. "What happened?"
"It looks like she hit her head while she was in here, probably from the initial tremors from the Akuma. You need to get her out of here before it destroys the whole school! It seems really angry about something here specifically."
"You're right about that. I heard what the Akuma said. It's not likely to leave here any time soon, so I can get Marinette to safety and then come back and keep it busy until Ladybug gets here."
Tikki nodded. "That sounds like a good plan. If Ladybug shows up while you're gone, I'll be sure to tell her where you are."
"Thanks. Her house isn't far from here, so I'm just going to take her straight there and come back." Tikki nodded again in confirmation. "Stand back-- or, well, float back, I guess?" Adrien gently picked up Marinette in his arms before carrying her toward the window. With a cry of "Cataclysm!" he melted the window, giving him a clear exit to get out of the school as quickly as possible. In his focus on getting Marinette out safely, he didn't notice Tikki phasing back through Marinette's purse, returning to her usual hiding spot.
Traveling by rooftop, it took Chat barely two minutes to make it to Tom & Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie. He landed smoothly on Marinette's balcony, tugging open the trapdoor, which was thankfully unlocked-- he didn't have another charge of his Cataclysm to open it if it had been barred from the inside. He shifted Marinette's body in his arms to get her inside, settling her down on her bed before gently tracing a clawed hand over her face. "I'm just trying to get a better look at her injury," he muttered, as if trying to convince himself that his motives for touching her were entirely pure and not at all driven by his crush.
"Mm… Ad...en..." Marinette let out a soft, pained moan, shifting slightly on the bed, making Chat jump in surprise. Did she just say my name? he thought to himself. His eyes darted around, as if expecting someone to be watching; thankfully, it seemed the coast was clear.
He hopped down out of the loft, digging around on her desk for a pen and paper. He found a piece of drawing paper and a green pen, tracing out a rather crude paw print shape to let Marinette know that he had been the one to bring her home. He climbed back up into the loft, tucking the paper into Marinette's hand, giving her one last quick check to make sure there wasn't anything more serious wrong with her. "You'll feel better once Ladybug's magic has done its work, Princess," he murmured to her. Biting his lip, he reached for her other hand to bring it to his lips… only to be reminded of his imminent de-transformation by an incessant beeping. "Shit." Chat reached up to pull himself out of the skylight, practically flying up onto the roof to release his transformation. "Plagg, claws in."
When Plagg had re-materialized in front of Adrien, he looked angry. "Where are we? Why aren't we fighting the Akuma?"
"Look, Ladybug's Kwami found me"--
"Tikki was at your school? Why wasn't she with Ladybug?"
"She said Ladybug was on her way, but Marinette was hurt, I couldn't just leave her lying in the bathroom unconscious!"
"So you abandoned the Akuma to save your girlfriend?" Plagg accused, crossing his arms in frustration
Adrien had the decency to blush at that. "She's not… Tikki asked me to save Marinette, okay? She told me that Marinette and Ladybug were close friends and that Ladybug would want me to make sure Marinette was safe."
"That… okay, yeah, that sounds like something Tikki would say. She's always been a bleeding heart."
Adrien pulled a piece of Camembert out of his pocket, handing it to Plagg to recharge his power. "Just eat quick so we can go back to school and take care of that Akuma, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. Just tell me one thing, kid."
"What is it?"
"Did you feel her up?"
"Oh god-- Plagg, no!" Adrien's face practically went up in flames from his embarrassment. "She's unconscious! I wouldn't do that to her! It wouldn't be right!"
Plagg just gave Adrien a shit-eating grin before eating the piece of stinky cheese. Within moments, Adrien called out his transformation phrase again and Chat Noir was off toward Lycée Jean-Baptiste Magnier.
Down in Marinette's bedroom, the young woman slowly came to consciousness, groaning in pain as she realized her head was throbbing. "What… what hit me?" she mumbled, squinting and rubbing her forehead. She hissed at the tenderness of the goose egg just along her hairline.
"You fell and hit your head on a bathroom sink at school," Tikki explained, floating just inches from Marinette's face. "Luckily, Chat Noir showed up and he was able to bring you home. I made sure the skylight was unlocked so he could get you inside."
"Chat… Noir? He came into my room? Wait, he saw you? Did he"-- Tikki shushed Marinette before she could freak out too much.
"No, no, he doesn't know you're Ladybug. I told him that Ladybug was on her way and would be at the school soon, though, so he's going to be looking for you. We need to hurry."
"Tikki, I don't think I can fight in this condition. My head is killing me-- and if I passed out, what if I have a concussion?" Marinette lifted both of her hands to rub at her face, only to realize she was clutching a piece of paper in one hand. Looking down at it, she saw a green paw print along with a short note:
You're safe, Princess. Feel better! --C.N.
Marinette flushed red and quickly tucked the piece of paper under her blanket. Nope, not thinking about that right now. She looked up, realizing Tikki was speaking to her, and flushed even more. "Sorry, Tikki, I didn't quite catch that, what did you say?"
"I said, when you transform, the magic will temporarily heal your head, so you will be able to fight. And then your Lucky Charm should do the job permanently, since the injury happened after Hawk Moth created the Akuma."
"Oh! Well, that's a relief. All right then, Tikki, spots on!" Tikki was sucked into Marinette's earrings as she transformed into Ladybug, dashing up onto her roof and swinging her way back to school.
When she dropped onto the roof of the lycée, Ladybug saw Chat Noir dodging blows from an absolutely massive, hulking figure coated with what appeared to be large chunks of raw diamond. As if drawn to Ladybug by some mysterious force, Chat looked up at her, his face breaking out in a wide grin. "There you are, Bugaboo! I was getting worried that you were going to stand me up!"
"I'm sorry, Chaton, I got a little tied up," Ladybug said with a grin, launching her yo-yo at the villain in an effort to restrain him. Rather than winding around him, however, the Akumatized villain grabbed onto the string, pulling Ladybug off the roof toward him instead. Chat launched into action at that moment, distracting the villain with his baton to give Ladybug a chance to land properly and retract her yo-yo. The baton seemed to do nothing against the Akuma's crystalline armor, but the blow did at least distract him long enough to allow Chat and Ladybug to meet up on the ground.
"You seem to be in a paw-fully good mood today, My Lady, if you're cracking jokes like that," Chat commented as the two of them launched into a synchronized attack. Within just a few minutes, the two were on opposite sides of the Akuma, hedging him in and keeping him from escaping past the boundaries of the courtyard.
"I'm just glad to get to spread my wings a bit, you know?" Ladybug replied. "So where do you think the Akuma is at?"
"Right under his head, there's a crystal that's a different color from the rest. It kind of looks like a bow tie?"
"I see it. Lucky Charm!" Throwing her yo-yo high in the air, she was rewarded with a crossbow loaded with a flat-headed bolt. Looking around in confusion, she realized that there was a high ledge that would give her a clean shot at knocking that particular crystal off of the Akuma's body, as long as… "Chat, keep him busy!" Ladybug launched herself into the air using her yo-yo before her partner could respond.
"Of course, Bugaboo!" Chat said, turning his attention fully back to Gemocide. "Now then, it's just you and me, buddy…"
It took Ladybug a minute to figure out how to use the crossbow and another to line everything up properly. She took a deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth, waiting for just the right moment… there! She squeezed the trigger between breaths; luckily, the bolt fired true, the wide, flat head managing to hit the crystal bow tie just so to send it flying into the air.
"NO!!!" Gemocide screamed as Chat scooped up the piece of crystal. "Give that back! If you don't give that back right now, I'll kill you and take your Miraculous!"
"Cataclysm!" A moment later, a dark butterfly fluttered out of the broken gemstone. Ladybug, who had jumped back down to ground level, swiped at it with her yo-yo, capturing it and purifying it.
"Bye bye, petit papillon," she said as she released the purified butterfly. She tossed the crossbow into the air with a cry of "Miraculous Ladybug!" Within moments, the magical swarm of ladybugs had set everything to rights, repairing the damage to the school and restoring the poor man's bow tie to its proper place at his neck.
"Are you all right, sir?" Ladybug asked the gentleman, a rather scrawny looking fellow with curly hair and over-sized glasses.
"O-oh, yes, I'm fine… thank you for that, I'm so embarrassed…" He looked down, twiddling his thumbs, not wanting to meet Ladybug's eyes.
"If you don't mind us asking, what happened?" Chat asked.
"W-well, you see, I'm a geologist, and, I applied for a job at this school, but I was turned down after my interview... "
"I'm so sorry to hear that," Ladybug said, placing a gentle hand on the man's shoulder. "But I'm sure that if you keep looking, you'll find the right job for you soon!"
"Y-you're right… I just get so nervous… at job interviews… and then I m-mess up… my words…"
Ladybug couldn't help but feel bad for the man. "I know how you feel… Sometimes, you can never figure out the right words to say, and you end up tripping over your own tongue, right?"
"Y-yes! Exactly! How did you overcome your problem?"
"Well… honestly, I still struggle with it sometimes. I just had to remind myself to stay calm, slow down, and not let my mouth move faster than my brain. Writing down what you want to say beforehand helps, too, if you can do that."
"I'll have to remember that." Now that he was relaxing a bit, the man was speaking much more easily. He even smiled at the two teenage superheroes. "Thank you again. You two should get going, though; the police will be here any minute, I'm sure."
"You're right." As if on cue, Chat and Ladybug's Miraculous both beeped in warning. The two of them made their way up onto the roof, planning to depart in opposite directions; but before they could leave, Chat called out, "What really took you, Bugaboo?"
"I had a personal matter I needed to take care of, Chat. Unlike you, I don't lose my Miraculous." Chat flushed at the memory of what Plagg had told him in the aftermath of the Style Queen incident, how he'd used that excuse to explain why Chat couldn't help fight the Akuma. For some reason, he had a sinking feeling in his gut, like Ladybug wasn't telling him the whole truth; but he couldn't very well call her on it without any proof, so he held his tongue for the moment.
"By the way…" Ladybug continued, "thank you for saving Marinette. Tikki told me what you did."
"Of course, My Lady. Any friend of yours is a friend of mine! It was my purr-leasure to be of assistance." He gave Ladybug a grand, sweeping bow, earning a giggle and a soft smile in response. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a very hungry Kwami to take care of. Adieu, My Bugaboo!"
"Adieu, Chaton," Ladybug replied warmly before the two of them went their separate ways.
Both of them ducked into alleyways on opposite sides of the school to de-transform, neither of them the wiser of just how close they were to discovering each other's biggest secrets.
As soon as Marinette made it back into the school and found her class, Nino wrapped his arms around her in a panic. "Marinette! What happened? No one could find you! Someone said they saw you in the bathroom, but there was no trace of you. I texted Alya to see if you were with her but she said she had no idea where you were and you weren't answering your phone. We were freaking out!"
"Sorry Nino! I wasn't feeling well, so I actually went home during my free period… I heard there was an Akuma though!"
"Yeah, it was crazy. He kinda reminded me of"--
Marinette cut him off, replying, "Stoneheart, right? When Ivan was Akumatized?"
"Yeah! The big rock dude! How did you know?" Nino asked.
"O-oh, I just, you know, heard people in the halls talking about it! They said he was covered in crystals or something?"
"Yeah, and he was huge! Like, easily ten feet tall." Nino reached high above his head, waving his hand in an effort to express the comparative size of the villain.
"Wow, that's crazy! I'm glad Ladybug and Chat Noir were able to stop him."
"Definitely." Nino nodded in agreement.
Suddenly, two arms wrapped around Marinette from behind and a cheek mashed against the back of her head. "Marinette Dupain-Cheng! Don't scare me like that!" Alya cried out.
"Alya, I'm fine. I wasn't even here for the Akuma attack. I had a free period and I wasn't feeling well so I went home for a bit to rest."
"Oh. Well, you should have told me you were leaving, girl! Then I wouldn't have worried about you."
"I'm glad you're feeling better," Adrien said, walking up behind Alya.
"Yeah, much better actually! I think I just needed a little nap, that's all," Marinette said, plastering a weak smile on her face. "Adrien, did you see the Akuma?"
"Actually, I kinda ended up hiding in a supply closet," he replied sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. "I was going to follow Alya, but I chickened out…"
"That's probably for the best, dude," Nino pointed out. "You know how your dad gets when you're around Akumas."
"Yeah, fair. Hopefully he won't threaten to make me transfer schools again…" Adrien grimaced at the memory of how three Akumas attacked the school within a week last year and his dad threatened to pull him out if the headmaster didn't do something to improve the negative attitudes of the students and staff.
"Well, just tell him that you kept yourself safe, and that should be fine, right?" Marinette asked.
"Hopefully.. We'll see though. Anyway, we should all be getting back to class."
"Yeah… I'm glad you're all okay," Marinette said, giving Adrien in particular a meaningful look.
"You too, Marinette. I hope you feel better the rest of the day."
"I'll talk to you later, girl!" Alya said. "See you at lunch!"
"See you!" Marinette turned to Nino. "Shall we head on to the dreaded Philosophy class?"
"Yeah, I guess so. God, I'm ready for this class to be over for the year. M. Leroux is a total asswipe."
"Me too!"

Fifth Times the Charm - Secret Santa Fic
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year KJ @lizziesaltyzman ! I’m so sorry this is getting to you so late. Here is your fluffy Camsten fic. It’s a College AU. Please forgive my complete lack of knowledge about how labs/science theses work. Hopefully you still enjoy it! @stitcherssecretsanta2018
“I’m worried about you, Mr. Goodkin..”
After countless hours in the lab together, Dr. Clark has only ever looked this serious one other time. Given that that time involved one of his grad students getting nearly electrocuted along with half the lab, Cameron was sure this wasn’t shaping up to be a good talk.
“You’re on your third -“
Fourth, Cameron silently corrected in his head.
“- coder for your thesis project. At this rate you’ll have burned through all of the computer science department by your defense, if you get there at all.”
None of this was new information to Cameron, but it stung to hear everything laid out so matter of factly. You could make the argument that Marta leaving was his fault. They had been awake over two days when she’d had her accident.
The other two failures were clearly not Cameron’s. How was he to know Alex would end up creating and launching an app to help people manage their high blood pressure? There was no way to predict that. Camille had been working out great for several weeks. She was insightful and creative. They worked well together. That is until she saw Amanda Weston’s project on postmortem modeling. Camille jumped ship almost immediately.
The only hope Cameron had at this point was that he would get along swimmingly with his new partner Tim. There was no plan b.
—————————————————————-
When Kirsten Clark first met her half sister she knew that there were ways her life would change. There was another person she had to program into her calendar so she would remember to check in with them. There was someone else to inexplicably ask how she was doing at random intervals. There was one more member that understood just how tangled up one could be in the legacy of Daniel Stinger.
What she hadn’t anticipated was her newfound inability to say no. Whenever Ivy asked for a favor, Kirsten felt herself crumble inside. It was maddening, annoying, and meant that Kirsten was sitting front row, center in the coldest classroom ever at seven o’clock at night. She was meant to be studying or preparing to teach. If Ivy needed moral support for a one-off workshop though, here she was.
The room filled up the way these things always did. Most students sat in the back. A few brave souls ventured toward the front to better see the board. That was how Kirsten ended up with the only open seat right next to her.
Ten minutes into the lecture, an absolute whirlwind of a person burst into the room. As if the door cracking hard against the wall wasn’t enough of an announcement of his arrival, the guy tripped over someone’s messenger bag nearly toppling over. He just kept mouthing ‘sorry’ as his eyes swept the room. When his eyes finally met Kirsten’s, she pointed at the seat next to her.
Later that evening when Ivy teased her about it, Kirsten told her that she most certainly did not blush when Cameron smiled at her. It was the cold. There was no spark there. He just looked so lost throughout the whole workshop. And he called her Ada Lovelace when she helped him work through a line of code at the end.
How could she not want to see him again?
———————————————-
Cameron still wasn’t sure what was going on with the blonde from the coding workshop he attended. Yes, she gave him her number - without any prompting. Yes, she had been texting him.
But how could you have a maybe sort of thing going on with a woman whose name you didn’t know?
There were bigger issues Cameron was facing - Tim’s lack of respect for him, his utter inability to get along with Tim, how hard his thesis was going to fail without Tim’s help, avoiding his thesis advisor etc. Add in attending and teaching classes and he was flush with problems.
None of them occupied his mind like her though.
Before Cameron realized what he was doing he texted Ada about his immediate frustration.
how do people get tables in the library during midterms? who do i need to sell my soul to?
An answer came back almost immediately with a coffee order. Cameron sent back a line of question marks in reply.
I have a study room for the next three hours - that’s my price to share it.
Cameron nearly sank down in relief. He waited in an obnoxiously long line behind all the other caffeine deprived college students. It took him almost an hour to acquire coffee and muffins for his new friend. When he arrived at the study room, it was completely worth it for how she looked at him.
Her hands wrapped around the warmth of her coffee cup. “You’re welcome back anytime now that you know the price of admission. I’m here on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11. Plus, technically these are supposed to be group study rooms so you’d legitimize my usage.”
“How did you swing that schedule? They only let you book rooms a week in advance,” Cameron asked.
The blonde stared at her cup, a soft smile twitched at the edge of her mouth. “It’s not technically against the rules, but it’s probably not fair. I wrote a program that automatically goes in to reserve the room as soon as they open up online.”
Cameron laughed. “Your secret’s safe with me, ZeroCool.”
—————————————————
“Here’s your muffin, Muffin,” Cameron said as he presented Kirsten with her customary baked good and coffee.
Sometimes Kirsten marveled at the seemingly fathomless list of nicknames Cameron had for her. She’d been Stretch when she recovered his pen from a particularly hard to reach spot. She’d been Brainiac when she helped him fix his computer. She’d been Angel when she returned a laptop bag she found to the library staff. And now she was Muffin.
“Some days I wonder if you even know my name, Cameron. I don’t think I’ve ever heard you use it,” Kirsten told him as she popped a piece of muffin in her mouth.
The tips of Cameron’s ears turned bright pink. “Well…”
Kirsten ran back over their first meeting in her head. She had asked for his phone and put the number in. Cameron had sent her a text with his name in it. That had probably been a cue that Kirsten had completely missing. Her hands went to her eyes, covering them in embarrassment.
“It’s Kirsten and if you haven’t noticed I don’t people well,” she told him.
Cameron shrugged. “You do well enough with me.”
----------------------------------------------------------------
“What’s another word for passionate?” Kirsten murmured, not taking her eyes off of her computer screen.
Cameron looked up from his own work. He had been absorbed in Tim’s latest notes - which were marginally better than last week’s, but not by much. “Context? I’m not sure if you’re writing an online review of a restaurant or a love letter there.”
Kirsten snorted as she deleted several keystrokes. “I’m writing a personal statement for a project I want to work on. There have been a couple of openings this semester, but I always seem to miss them. I figure if I leave a packet with my CV and a proposal that maybe they’ll take me before they realize how difficult I am to work with.”
It seemed unlikely to Cameron that any team wouldn’t want Kirsten working with them. She was extremely good at what she did, detail-oriented, and incredibly focused. Any time she talked about her current projects, they seemed nearly impossible to Cameron. That was when he even understood what she was talking about. When Kirsten get excited about something it was so hard to interrupt her for clarification. Her enthusiasm was no less enjoyable when it completely went over Cameron’s head.
“They’d be idiots not to take you.” Cameron smirked. “Just don’t tell them you’re feeling amorous about the project.”
Kirsten’s blue eyes finally strayed from her typing. They assessed Cameron for a long moment, sweeping over his face. “You’re funny.” She retreated to her work again.
They worked in relative silence for the next few moments. The study room was filled with the comforting sort of calm that Cameron had come to associate with Kirsten. Instead of working on his project, Cameron started pulling up articles on personal statements.
“Have you written about why you’re so interested in the project?” He asked.
A flash of something unidentifiable crossed Kirsten’s face. “I really don’t think they want to hear about my dead mom. ”It took Cameron a moment to fully absorb what she was telling him. Her tone was so matter of fact. “It happened a long time ago. I barely remember her. It seems cheap to tell them that their research could’ve helped her.”
A tiny ache clawed at Cameron’s chest. “I think that’s exactly what you should tell them.”
There was more he wanted to ask her, to tell her about his life. As if Fate or Destiny hated him though, an undergrad decided that was the exact moment to start banging on the study room window. Nevermind that they still had another half an hour until it was his.
And just like that the moment was gone.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn’t like Cameron to be late or miss one of their work sessions. Kirsten found herself working much slower without him in her space. That might have had something to do with the fact that she checked her phone every fifteen seconds for a text that had yet to arrive.
Five hundred and forty-one disappointing notification checks later, a text finally came through.
i’m so sorry i didn’t text you sooner. this thing came up with my dad and i’ve been sorting it out.
This was not something Kirsten was prepared for. She was not good with empathy or sympathy. There were few people in the world less helpful when people were upset than she was. This was Cameron though so she had to at least try to comfort him.
Is he okay? Is there anything I can do to help?
Kirsten stared at her reply, thinking of all the ways she could’ve made it sound better.
he’s just a terminally shitty person.
It was awful, and she recognized it, but Kirsten was kind of relieved. Dealing with trash dads was a specialty of hers.
He should meet my father. They could start a club.
It took a long time for Cameron to respond. Kirsten started to rethink her text. Had it been the wrong move to say that? Did it sound like she was trying to one up him?
he’s in jail for embezzlement, maybe paroled soon. it was awful when he went in. my mom and i changed our last name and everything just to get away.
Kirsten was still puzzling over what to say when there was a knock at the window. Cameron was on the other side looking slightly rumpled.
“Lunch? My treat,” he mouthed on the other side of the glass.
He apparently didn’t notice that she had already started packing up the second she saw him.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was no getting around how awful working with Tim was. Cameron couldn’t take it anymore. They had terrible communication. Half the time a week’s worth of research went to waste. Tim thought Cameron didn’t know anything about what he did - which was true- but he also didn’t respect that Cameron knew his own field well.
Dr. Clark had been hounding Cameron constantly for updates. It was like he could sense how terribly things were going for them. Cameron knew that it was because he wanted him to succeed. There was something worse about disappointing someone you respected than being yelled at.
Facing the music now meant that he might have a new partner picked and up to speed before the semester ended. He stared up at the medical arts building as though the glass and steel could give him what he needed. His hand went to his pocket for his phone without thinking.
send help, rocky. I’m about to tell my thesis advisor that i can’t work with my partner anymore. this goodkin is about to get a good kick in the face.
Kirsten didn’t respond, but reaching out to her, as always, made Cameron feel a little better. He adjusted the messenger bag on his shoulder and headed toward his doom.
-------------------------------------------
There were often times when Kirsten felt a little behind what was going on. She wasn’t the best at reading people or their sarcasm. Her pop cultural knowledge was severely lacking. These things made it hard for her to socialize in groups or with new people.
Kirsten had never felt this blindsided though.
Cameron - her Cameron - was C. Goodkin. This was the guy she convinced Ed to hire based solely on his previous papers. This was the guy who she had been trying to work with all semester - despite Uncle Ed’s protestations of nepotism if he helped her. This was the guy who wanted to communicate with coma patients. He knew her reasons for wanting to work on this project. They got along well too, which wasn’t always the case with her and colleagues.
As though Kirsten’s entire world hadn’t been knocked off balance, Ed continued going on about the holiday party his department was throwing. Apparently Mr. Ahluwalia made world famous cookies that Kirsten just had to try.
There was no good way to break any of what she had to say to Cameron in a text. Only a phone call would work, even though she really hated those.
“Uncle Ed, I have to make a call,” Kirsten said as she stood up.
Her fingers were gripping the handle when the door swung out, pulling Kirsten with it. She nearly toppled into Cameron, who looked as though he were marching to his death. Kirsten inwardly shrugged. She’d have to wing this.
“Let me handle the talking,” she whispered at Cameron, gesturing for him to come in the door. There was nothing for him to do but follow her lead.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Cameron wasn’t sure why or how Kirsten was in Dr. Clark’s office, but he didn’t much care at that point. If she saved him, he would owe her for the rest of his life.
“Mr. Goodkin, did we have an appointment?” Dr. Clark asked. “We could meet in a few minutes if you’d like.”
The lump in Cameron’s throat grew. He made some sort of movement that was half between shrug and nervous arm flinging. As Cameron sat next to Kirsten he noticed how remarkably calm she was. Her hand stilled his forearm, resting just long enough for Cameron’s brain to register the feel of her.
“Cameron knew I was meeting you for lunch so he figured now would be a good time to tell you we’re working together.” Kirsten slid him a questioning look. “We can start immediately. I’m familiar with most of his work so it shouldn’t take too long for me to get caught up.”
The realization finally hit Cameron. Kirsten was offering to do the coding for his thesis. She was literally saving his academic career and still somehow looked nervous about her. Did she think he wasn’t serious about how much he admired her work?
“Yeah. I think we should be in good shape if we start now.” Cameron echoed her sentiment.
Dr. Clark looked between the both of them. “Okay. I’d like an update this time next week.” He gestured toward the door. “I’ll see you then.”
Cameron followed Kirsten out of the office, still in kind of a daze over how quickly things turned around. He nearly fell down the stairs trying to keep up with his new partner. When they finally got outside Cameron pulled her toward a bench.
“What just happened?”
Kirsten smiled. “Do you know how much trouble we could’ve saved each other if we knew each other’s last names?”
Her arms swooped around Cameron, pulling him in for a hug. He wanted answers, but for now he would settle for the softness of Kirsten’s hair against his cheek.
---------------------------------------------------------------
There was nothing worse than socializing with large groups of people. Kirsten had to track how all of them were feeling at every moment. She had to make sure she wasn’t showing off or playing dumb. There was also the small matter of pretending that any of these people were interesting and worth talking to.
Take Liam for instance, he had decided that it was important to discuss in great detail what his workout regimen was for each day. He was on leg day when Cameron finally rejoined the group.
“Hey, we hate to run, but Kirsten and I have another party to hit,” Cameron said as he twined their fingers together, pulling her toward him. “Catch you all later.”
There were two warring emotions in Kirsten. The one was absolute elation that she got to leave. The other was annoyance that she had to put in another appearance somewhere.
“Another party?” Kirsten asked. “How many people will I have to talk to?”
Cameron smiled at her. “One.”
There was no way that was true unless...
“Are we just going back to your place to watch Netflix and order takeout?” Kirsten sagged in relief against Cameron. “That sounds perfect.”
Cameron disentangled their fingers. He wrapped his arm around Kirsten and pulled her in closer. His head dropped down to place a kiss on her head.
“That was my thought too.”

Why choose data science for your career

Looking to get a career in the field of Data Science? YES. it is a lucrative, in-demand, progressive, futuristic and growth-oriented technology. So what is it that makes data science such a scorching hot field to get into?
Being a Data Scientist involves having a basic skill set viz., knowledge of basic mathematical, basic statistics and probability, basic computational and business analytical skills. In other words, as a data scientist, you need to consistently have one foot on the IT sector, and the other planted firmly in the business world. You need to have expertise in all the domains.
Data Science is mainly focused on exploration of data , making an inference from the data, and deriving an insight or prediction from the inference with the help of various statistical and mathematical models, programming languages like python or R language, algorithms in machine learning with python, visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI etc., Data Science requires the usage of both structured and unstructured data.
The machine learning requires two inputs for it to operate viz.,
a) Algorithms and
b) Data.
You should always provide clean data, otherwise the models that you develop will be all junk. You can derive insights and trends from data using any of the models and tools mentioned above. The choice is yours and the decision is taken after taking in account the complexity and scale of the problem. Thus, it helps business in taking the right decisions at the right time and also facilitates better strategic planning.
Let’s take an example in the healthcare sector where to detect or identify cancer in a person early, various medical reports (data) of the patient are provided to the system. The algorithms in machine learning makes learning by using the algorithms and comparing your data with previous available records of patients, comparing the various parameters with the existing normal values, making an analysis and derives at a final conclusion (result). The more data (historical data) of patients you have, the more accurate your result will be. Also, if you provide some arbitrary historical data, your result will not reflect the correct picture.
If you wish to make a career in data science, you have two options viz.,
Research Field like PhD and Post Doctoral: If you intend to go into the research field, you need to be qualified in that area of study, and have a thorough knowledge and understanding of mathematical, statistical and computational concepts related to the study.
Product Analytics and Visualization for industries and Service Sectors: To choosing this program, you need to have a basic knowledge of the mathematical and statistical concepts, basic probability, basic knowledge of python and a good knowledge of python libraries like pandas, matplotlib and numpy and various tools associated with it viz., visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI. Also, be well versed with SQL databases (MySQL, SQL Server or Oracle), and Business Analytics along with machine learning and Deep Learning (including neural networks), Predictive Modeling, and NLP. Our master program in Data Science is basically dealing with developing Product Analytics and Visualization for companies and our training program covers all of the above.
Our Data Science master program at eduJournal (www.edujournal.com), is a comprehensive program, designed to help learners of all skill levels, master this technology. Our syllabus is designed in such a way that it covers everything from the basic to advanced concepts which include expert instructions, coding exercise, quizzes, case studies and real world projects. It provides learners with the skill and knowledge to analyze, visualize and derive insights, trends or predictions from the data and hone their skills by learning concepts by providing case studies associated with it and working on real world projects. We also hone your skills with Data Science Interview Questions widely asked in interviews like scenario based interview questions, where you will be given a scenario and asked questions based on that scenario. To get through this round you will need a good working practical knowledge, which can be achieved by doing some real world projects. We will guide you to prepare for that round. Also, we have Data Science quizzes to measure your Data Science skills.
Roles and Responsibilities of a Data Scientist:
1. Understanding the Clients requirements.
2. Gather and Extract the dataset associated with the requirement.
3. Clean and pre-process the data.
4. Explore, Analyze and visualize data using various analytical tools and various statistical or mathematical models and computational libraries and algorithms.
5. Derive insights and make predictions.
6. Evaluate the performance of these models and make improvements if required.
7. Communicate the results and findings to stakeholders (client).
8. Monitor and maintain the performance over time.
How to become a Data Scientist:
1.Learn the basics of python (viz., libraries like pandas, matplotlib, numpy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow etc., and developing algorithms for machine learning using python) or R Language (if you are developing statistical and mathematical models).
2. Familiarize yourself with the tools used for data analysis like the Power BI, Seaborn and Tableau and the various libraries mentioned above.
3. Understand the basic mathematical concepts (linear algebra, decision trees), statistical concepts (Linear regression) and probability, neural networks (Deep Learning & AI), which are required for developing algorithms which are the core to data science.
4. Familiarize yourself with working with different types of data such as structured and unstructured data and various file formats like json, csv, xls, sql dump .
5. Understand the importance of data ethics and how to handle sensitive data carefully.
Advantages of Data Science:
1. Abundance of opportunities: Data Science is greatly in demand today, and there is lots of opportunities for job seekers with excellent remuneration packages. It is estimated to generate 11.5 million jobs by the year 2026. As the data becomes increasingly important to aid in decision making process, the demand for data scientists continues to grow, making it a highly demanding skill in the job market.
2. Used in multiple domains: it is a versatile field used in multiple domains such as finance, healthcare, marketing, banking, insurance, telecommunication, automobile, consultancy services etc., giving you the flexibility in career path.
3. Empowering managements to make better decisions: Enables companies to make smart business decisions thus, improving the overall performance of the company. The ability to work with large quantity of data and generate insights or predictions, creating new patterns, analyze data and generate reports etc., can help in the overall development and increase the productivity of the company.
4. Provide personalized insights: Enables computers to understand and predict human behavior and make data-driven decisions based on historical data. For eg., Ecommerce sites providing personal insights to users based on past historical purchases.
5. Handling complex problems: Facilitates breaking a larger complex problem into smaller manageable units and deriving at a solution.
6. Technological Advancement: With the improvements in technology, the ability to collect and store data, make analysis from data, deriving insights and make predictions etc., has made data science a popular field with greater potential for innovation.
7. Personal growth: It is a rewarding career for professionals who wish to use their problem solving skills and creativity to find solutions to problems.
Disadvantages of Data Science:
1. Mastering Data Science is close to impossible: Data Science is a vast subject. The role of a data scientist depends on domain in which the company is specialized in. For example, in a healthcare sector, a data scientist working on the analysis of genome sequencing will require some knowledge of genetics and molecular biology to create an algorithm for machine learning.

How Machine Learning Algorithms Can Be Used for data science assignment
Skills required for Machine Learning:In data science, machine learning is a subfield of computer science concerned with the development of algorithms that allow computers to 'learn'. Data scientists work on a product or company that interacts with a large number of stakeholders and users in their daily work. However, they lack the means to update the system or tools based on recent customer feedback or behavior (on how well their software works, whether it meets user expectations, and what features should be added).
Machine learning can help! Data scientists can now build tools (machine learning models) that learn from existing data, such as logs or databases about software usage. These tools can make predictions based on new records, such as incoming requests, for example, analyze the content of an email and predict whether it belongs in the spam folder or not.
A very practical example is using machine learning techniques to classify the sentiment of tweets. It can be used to measure customer satisfaction with your product or how well your marketing campaign went and whether you tweeted enough.
Typically, data scientists need to understand human language and experience writing rules that can automatically categorize these types of sentiments, but machine learning comes into play and automates and improves these processes. You can start with a simple solution, such as an algorithm that uses certain keywords/expressions that are classified as positive/negative sentiment in tweets, but iteratively improves by adding new patterns (keywords) and correcting them based on what the data scientists know.
What is Machine Learning:
It's about understanding and uncovering hidden patterns or insights from data, which helps make smarter business decisions.
It is a subfield of data science that allows machines to learn automatically from previous data and experiences.
It is used to find business insights/information from raw data with the help of data analytics methods.
It is used to make predictions for new data points and to rank the results.
It is a broad term that includes the various steps involved in building a model for a given problem and applying the model in the real time production environment
It is used in the data modeling step of data science as a complete process. Machine learning can be applied on raw, structured or unstructured data.
Let see how Machine Learning Algorithms Can Be Used for data science assignment

Skills required for Machine Learning:
A data scientist must have skills in the use of big data tools such as Hadoop, Hive and Pig, statistics, programming in Python, R/Shiny, R/Rstudio, SAS or Scala.
A machine learning engineer must have skills like computer science fundamentals, programming skills in Python or R, concepts of statistics and probability, etc.
Data scientists spend a lot of time manipulating data, cleaning it, and understanding its patterns. ML engineers spend a lot of time managing the complexities that arise during the implementation of algorithms and the mathematical concepts behind them.

Once you’ve chosen your topic, then attempt to pull three-5 subtopics from it. Each sub-subject ought to be juicy sufficient to be able to write so much about it. The common faculty term paper ought to be between five and seven pages. Those pages usually embody at least two paragraphs per page. The paragraphs should be written in the typical essay style with topic sentences, supporting details, examples, and transitions. These paragraphs have particular capabilities and lengths, too. Depending in your main, you may end up working on a number of papers each week, especially close to the top of the semester. The last thing most faculty college students want to do after submitting an essay is to rewrite it. But you’d be stunned what number of students lose the opportunity to enhance their grades, simply because they don’t ask about rewrites. When it comes to school, analyzing your results is almost as necessary as writing the paper in the first place. Your graded essay tells you every thing you need to know to ace the subsequent paper for that professor. The subtopics are your supporting paragraphs which fill the body of the research paper. They should principally be mini essays within themselves. The pupil shall work individually on the time period paper. The scholar shall identify a subject by the end of the second week of courses . The student shall discuss the subject with the instructor before starting work on it. Some intial references must also be included in the two web page writeup. The answer is around four pages single spaced, and eight pages double spaced. Your word processing software program and settings might result in slightly completely different pages counts, but with standard page margins and a 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font you possibly can anticipate related output. A two page abstract of the term paper is due by the top of the fourth week. This abstract ought to adequately encourage the topic and describe the work to be performed for the term paper. For students within the U.S. it’s exhausting to get away from doing writing if you wish to go to varsity. The quantity and forms of writing can differ by class, and some majors should anticipate to do extra writing than others. If you might be an English, History, or Philosophy major, anticipate writing to be the core of what you do for lessons, however definitely not should you choose Computer Science, Mathematics, or Economics. Examples of 2000 word count pages could be longer for blog posts, school essays or time period papers, and operating manuals. Some college students walked a long way full of ups and downs when writing their term paper.

What your math teacher didn’t teach you
Ever sit in your algebra or geometry class and think to yourself, “when am I ever going to use this shit again?” If so, here’s a few things they could put those classes into perspective! Annoying as they are, there’s a reason for them.
First, let’s start with the bare-bones basics...math is a tool to be used. It’s sometimes used by elitist pricks to feel better about themselves, but at its core, math is a tool. Its early origins have more to do with trading, economics, architecture, and agriculture than high-minded philosophies. You don’t have to be good at all maths to use maths effectively...and in fact, using maths effectively is way more important than remembering the ins-and-outs of every rule
So let’s draw a comparison. Take language. In school, you were taught the basics for spelling and grammar, and then later on you were taught how to write and how to comprehend the writing of others...and you probably forgot some of the earlier grammar rules (wait, what’s a participle phrase again?), maybe because you don’t need to explicitly remember anymore (a comma goes there just because...it has to?)
Math, in essence, also tells a story...maybe not an exciting one, but one nonetheless. It’s a tool! And it predicts, gives dimensions, builds, or describes...if you’re using maths later, it’s for a reason. Algebra, in this case, is your spelling--it’s about manipulating symbols in a way that’s “legal” and “correct.” You remember that in 5+x=7, x has to equal 2, just like you remember that “through” is spelled that stupid way even though it doesn’t rhyme with “tough.” You have to know the basics for this before you do anything else because, well, how else are you going to be coherent? There’s a lot of more advanced stuff in algebra that, frankly, is good to know just in case you ever encounter it (so you can be like “oh shit...how do you do this again” and look it up online), but the basics are what really matter...and you can use that everywhere from finances and sales to building and navigation. It’s literacy that starts to become invisible once you stop taking tests on it
Geometry builds on algebra to create concepts. Geometry is math in form...it’s taking the rules of algebra and knowing what to do with them to solve a problem. Let’s say you’re an artist, and you want to upsize a canvas...well, geometry helps you know how to go from 8x11 to 12x?. It can help you figure out how big you might need to buy an ethernet cord to be able to snake it around the room. In fact, many higher maths are based on simple geometric concepts. To extend the metaphor, geometry is the grammar of maths...a simple understanding is super useful, and a firmer grasp starts to be needed the more technical your future field may be. Out of high school, you don’t need to know everything...but remembering the terms is super helpful in case you need to look something up later. The world is made of shapes, and remembering how to find the dimensions later on often comes in very handy
So how is all of that usable? Well, someday you’re going to have or be working with money, even in small amounts...your basic algebra could help you from making any missteps, or even maximizing your share. Sales, comparing price to amount, interest on accounts or loans...all of those go a little beyond simple addition or multiplication, and all of those can make a big difference to know. Someday, too, you might have a place that you live in, and want to alter or fit or fill that space...any sort of DIY benefits from having a little bit of knowledge of geometry, from the little projects into the big building/woodworking stuff. And all of that, of course, is daily-life usage...there are many fields that use maths. Science, computer science, social sciences (yes, even psychologists and anthropologists still have to understand some basic statistics so that you can assess what studies might be Full of Shit), business and economics, architecture, health...some are more advanced than others, but that high-school-level understanding is definitely worth something. If you don’t know what you want to do yet, then don’t be too quick to assume the maths you’re doing are only for hard sciences!
Now you might be like, “what if I hate math?”...well, I can’t help you much there haha some subjects aren’t gonna be a barrel of fun the whole time, but at least you know that you don’t have to be in love with maths to be able to glean some useful information. And if your next point is, “what if I suck at math?” then be comforted by the fact that a) it’s a skill to be learned, and you don’t have to be born good at it to get by, and b) you don’t have to remember everything. Know the most foundational stuff, and the more advanced stuff will either be avoidable (if you’re really keen on avoiding it) or will come more easily with time, practice, and experience (if you can’t avoid it forever). You don’t become a skilled writer in a day, and you don’t become a literate mathematician so quickly either. Take the time to learn, and remember that experience is the best teacher! Don’t beat yourself up over that one 8th grade algebra test that went south.
Just remember that math is a tool, and if you understand its purpose, it gets slightly less painful to use. You don’t have to remember everything--just enough to make it useful!
