Understanding CAD Computer Requirements: Essential Guide for Optimal Performance
If you’re diving into the world of Computer-Aided Design (CAD), ensuring that your system is properly equipped to handle the demands of software like AutoCAD is crucial. Whether you are an architect, engineer, or designer, having the right hardware and software configuration will not only improve your workflow but also guarantee smoother performance and better results. In this blog, we’ll walk through the key computer requirements for running AutoCAD and other CAD software smoothly.
Tumblr media
Why Understanding CAD Computer Requirements Matters
Running CAD software efficiently requires more than just having a standard computer. CAD applications, especially AutoCAD, are resource-intensive and demand high computing power. Without a suitable setup, you might experience lagging, crashes, or long rendering times that could affect productivity. Understanding these requirements ensures that your system is up to the task and can handle the software’s robust functionalities without compromising performance.
Key CAD Computer Requirements for Optimal Performance
1. Processor (CPU): The Brain of Your CAD System
The processor is the heart of your CAD system. CAD software requires a multi-core processor to handle complex calculations and data. AutoCAD, for example, performs better on processors that can handle multiple tasks at once.
Recommended: A multi-core processor, ideally with 4 or more cores, such as Intel i7/i9 or AMD Ryzen 7/9.
Minimum: Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 (6th generation or newer).
Choosing a higher-end processor will significantly enhance your CAD experience, especially when working with complex designs or large files.
2. Graphics Card (GPU): Visuals and Rendering Performance
The graphics card is crucial for rendering 3D models and visualizing designs in AutoCAD. A powerful GPU will ensure smooth navigation, rendering, and model manipulation in both 2D and 3D spaces.
Recommended: NVIDIA GeForce RTX Quadro series or AMD Radeon Pro series.
Minimum: NVIDIA GeForce GTX or AMD Radeon RX series.
For demanding 3D modeling tasks, consider upgrading to a workstation-grade GPU like the NVIDIA Quadro series, which is optimized for professional CAD workflows.
3. Memory (RAM): Smooth Multitasking
When working with large files or running multiple applications, ample RAM is necessary to avoid system slowdowns or crashes. CAD software requires significant memory to store large drawings, 3D models, and complex calculations.
Recommended: 16GB or more of RAM.
Minimum: 8GB of RAM.
For more intensive CAD tasks or multitasking (like running AutoCAD with other software), investing in 32GB or more of RAM is ideal.
4. Storage: Quick Access to Large Files
CAD designs often involve large files that need fast access and ample storage space. A slow hard drive can create bottlenecks when loading files or saving work, hindering your productivity. Opting for an SSD (Solid-State Drive) will significantly improve file loading times and overall system responsiveness.
Recommended: 512GB or higher SSD for storage.
Minimum: 256GB SSD or a 1TB HDD (though SSD is always recommended).
For the best performance, SSDs should be used for the operating system and primary software installation, while larger HDDs can be used for archival purposes.
5. Display: Crisp and Accurate Visualization
A high-resolution display is essential for accurately visualizing detailed designs and models. AutoCAD users often work with intricate 2D and 3D elements, making a large, high-resolution monitor an essential component of the setup.
Recommended: A 24” or larger screen with 1920x1080 resolution (Full HD) or higher, ideally with IPS technology for better color accuracy.
Minimum: 21” screen with 1920x1080 resolution.
For better productivity, you may even consider a dual monitor setup to increase workspace and improve multitasking efficiency.
6. Operating System: AutoCAD Compatibility
The operating system you use can impact the compatibility and performance of your CAD software. AutoCAD supports both Windows and macOS, but Windows remains the dominant platform for CAD applications due to better driver support and compatibility.
Recommended: Windows 10 64-bit (or newer), or macOS Mojave 10.14 or later.
Minimum: Windows 8.1 (64-bit) or macOS High Sierra 10.13 or later.
For those using Windows, make sure to keep your OS updated to take advantage of the latest performance and security enhancements.
7. Internet Connection: Cloud Integration and Updates
While not a direct hardware requirement, a reliable internet connection is important for downloading software updates, using cloud-based storage, and collaborating on projects. AutoCAD’s cloud integration features, such as AutoCAD Web and AutoCAD Mobile, rely on internet connectivity for seamless operation.
Recommended: Stable broadband connection with speeds of at least 10 Mbps.
Minimum: Basic internet connection for updates and cloud features.
Additional Tips for Optimizing Your CAD System
Ensure Regular Software Updates: Keeping your AutoCAD software and drivers up to date ensures compatibility and optimizes performance.
Consider External Storage for Backup: Large CAD files can quickly fill up your system’s storage, so having an external drive or cloud storage option for backup and archiving is a good idea.
Use CAD-Specific Peripherals: A high-quality mouse and keyboard designed for CAD work can enhance precision and reduce strain during long working hours.
Conclusion
Setting up a system to run AutoCAD and other CAD software efficiently isn’t just about meeting the bare minimum requirements — it’s about ensuring that your system can handle complex design tasks without compromising on speed or performance. By investing in a high-performance processor, powerful graphics card, sufficient RAM, and an SSD for fast storage, you’ll experience smoother, more efficient CAD workflows.

Transformers Autobots Characters Reacting To They're S/o Thinking Of Having Their Sparkling's (NSFW DRABBLES?)
(semi) SMUT - you been warned
The characters are written down below are,, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Jazz, Ironhide, Sideswipe, Crosshairs, Drift, Hound and Hotrod.
Tumblr media
Optimus Prime
Optimus stills—his entire frame locked as your whispered words register.
You thought about having sparkings anyway.
His spark flares, heat thrumming through his frame as his servos instinctively tighten on your hips. His optics dim, processor struggling to keep up with the sheer weight of what you just confessed.
“You… thought about carrying mine?” His voice is low, rough—there’s something primal lurking beneath the usual control.
And then he groans, optics flickering as he pulls you closer, his frame still deeply connected to yours.
“… Then let’s make it happen.”
Bumblebee
Bee’s entire frame shutters, vents stuttering as he tries to process what you just said.
"You… you thought about it?"
His servos tremble against your thighs, his engine revving instinctively. You feel the way his spark pulses against yours, how his field tightens around you.
His optics flash, helm pressing into your shoulder as he grinds into you just a little more—still sensitive but reacting to the idea.
“Primus, you can’t just say that,” he murmurs, nuzzling into your neck, voice thick with something deep, something needy. “Now I can’t stop thinking about it.”
Ratchet
Ratchet’s processor blue screens.
Like—this wasn’t a conversation he expected to have while still buried inside you.
His optics flicker, his servo gripping your waist as his vents struggle to cycle properly.
“… You want that?” His voice is rough, almost hoarse.
You nod, hips shifting just slightly against him, and he growls—low, deep, his spark flaring as the implications of what you’re saying hit hard.
“… Then we might need to test your frame’s compatibility,” he mutters, lips grazing your jaw. “Thoroughly.”
Jazz
Jazz whimpers.
Like, actually whimpers.
His processor is fried, his entire frame shuddering as your words settle into his very spark.
“Oh, frag—”
He buries his face against your chest, field wrapping around yours in a desperate, needy embrace.
"You can't just say that, babe,” he pants, his servos gripping your hips, optics blazing.
But then—he grins, lazy and sultry, his hips rolling just slightly to emphasize he’s still deep inside you.
“… Guess we better keep trying ‘til we know for sure, huh?”
Ironhide
Ironhide’s engine rumbles.
Your words sink in slowly—his processor taking an extra second to fully grasp what you just admitted.
And then?
His grip tightens.
"You thought about it, huh?" His voice is low, deep, filled with something possessive.
His optics flash, his entire field surging around you as he pulls you closer, his plating still pressed flush against yours.
“… Then maybe it’s time we stop thinking and make it real.”
Sideswipe
“Oh, frag, you mean that?”
Sideswipe’s vents shudder, his entire frame twitching from overstimulation, but frag if he doesn’t immediately react to what you just whispered.
You feel his engine rev, his servo gripping your thigh as his processor struggles to keep up.
"Primus, you can’t just drop that on me right after—"
His optics flicker, something hungry brewing in his expression.
“… You sure? ‘Cause I really wouldn’t mind putting in some more… effort.”
Crosshairs
Crosshairs chokes.
Like, full-on chokes. His vents glitch, his entire frame going rigid as his processor shuts down for a solid three seconds.
Then—his optics flick to yours. Wide.
“Wait, wait—you what?”
You smirk, shifting just slightly around him, and he groans, helm dropping back as his servos tighten around you.
"Primus, you can't just say stuff like that—" He pauses, optics flickering with something darker.
"... But if you're serious, sweetheart? Then frag, we better get to work."
Drift
Drift stills.
His optics are dark, his vents slow and measured—but his field? It flares so intensely around you that you feel the weight of his emotions immediately.
“… You would carry mine?”
His servo drifts to your abdomen, his plating still intimately pressed against yours as his spark pulses hard.
The reverence in his gaze, the way his lips part slightly as he drinks in your words—it’s overwhelming.
“… Then let us not waste time, my love.”
Hound
Hound groans—deep, rough, his entire frame thrumming beneath you.
"You thought about it?" His voice is gravelly, optics flickering as his servos tighten on your waist.
Then, suddenly, his lips are on you again—claiming, desperate, his spark pulsing violently against yours.
“… Then we better make damn sure it happens.”
And with the way he rolls his hips? Oh, he’s not stopping anytime soon.
HotRod
Hot Rod whimpers.
Like, actually whimpers. His vents are shaky, his optics wide as your words fully register.
“… Wait. You mean that?”
His field flares, his servos locking around your waist as his processor overheats.
You nod—smug, teasing—and he groans, his engine revving uncontrollably.
"Oh, frag, babe—you know I’m gonna make sure it happens now, right?”
And with the way his hips instinctively buck into yours again? Yeah, you knew exactly what you were doing.

Skywarp at this point is just built different. Most DEFINITELY incorrectly, but different nonetheless.
He’s on a different level of being a menace.
Also, absolutely love the Earthspark Soundwave fic! ^^
He has absolutely no impulse control once he wants something
Tumblr media
True Romance Pt 9
Seeker Trine x Reader
• Venting raggedly as he divides his attention between his reports and Skywarp, Starscream swallows a growl as his brother sprawls on Thundercracker’s berth beside the blue Seeker. Ostensibly to join in on the movie you both are watching, but also reaching over to run a servo down your spine where your sprawled on Thundercracker. Waiting for the fight to break out between the two, because neither of them share well and he and Thundercracker have both been on edge since Skywarp had declared an interest in you. Knowing how impulsive he is, that he’ll try to act on it regardless of how bad an idea it is.
• Tip of a servo sliding from between your shoulder blades down over the curve of your butt and along the inside of your thighs, you shiver and reach back to swat Skywarp. Glaring at him as he just grins like he knows exactly what he’s doing. Like he’s doing it on purpose. Relaxing when Thundercracker pointedly drapes a hand over you and just frowns upside down at his brother. Because Skywarp’s become a lot more tactile since that awkward group shower and his self help session. Keeps picking you up and petting you. Making you swat his servos when he zeroes in on areas you’d rather he didn’t touch. Almost positive he’s amusing himself with your embarrassed discomfort.
• “Sky,” Thundercracker growls under his breath as Skywarp tries to wriggle his servos under his own to get to you. Making you squirm distractingly against him. Because Sky just keeps talking about you on patrol. Trying to coerce him and Star both into going along with his idiocy. Putting wholly inappropriate thoughts in his processor about sharing. About finding out if you’re compatible, because Sky is sure you are. Apparently he’s been watching videos of humans coupling just to check and he’d been happy to share the details.
• Both of them rumbling softly at each other, you’re not at all surprised when Starscream shoves his chair back and stalks over. Thundercracker and Skywarp both falling silent and moving their hands so Starscream can pick you up and carry you to his desk. Putting an end to the squabble as he sits with you in his hand, cupped to him and reaches for his datapad with the other. “I swear you’re more trouble than you’re worth,” he mutters so softly you almost miss it. Reminding you that your survival is dependent on the three of them, but mostly him since he seems to be the one in charge. And not being seen as a nuisance. Slumping against his warm chassis, you wish you knew what they want from you. What to do.
• Venting in annoyance, Skywarp watches Star’s back. Hears him murmuring to you. Knows he enjoys having you around, despite his grumbling. That he’s just being stubborn. Knows his brother’s always on edge, dealing with his duties as SIC and worrying about keeping them all off Megatron’s radar. Rarely ever has time for them, let alone himself. But watching him absently slide a servo against your spine when he’s preoccupied, or just picking up to carry as he paces about the habsuite, Skywarp knows you’re good for Star. Something soft and warm to distract him from his stress. Star and TC just need convincing.
• You’re leaning against him and he knows you’re just after his warmth, but it’s still a nice feeling. Taking you on impulse because of your unwitting help saving him from the Autobots, but keeping you because his trine is closer than they’ve been in a long time with something to fuss over. “How was your day?” You ask and it’s become a routine now, you ask even though you know he’s not going to share. But you just keep stubbornly asking like you really do want to know. Like you care.
• “Our scouts found a potential energon vein,” he says slowly, surprising you. “We still need to vet it and make sure it’s not a false reading like last time.” He’s talking to you. Head tipping so you can see his face, his optics flick to you and back to his datapad. “We need this, though.” Opening up to you after so long. After ignoring you for the most part aside from occasionally absently patting you on the head like a favored pet, and your tension eases. Because he sees you and you just have to make sure that he keeps seeing you. Not a pet that can be discarded, because your life depends on it. On staying on his good side and finding some way to be useful. Even if hearing him vent about his day is all you can do for him.

Yeen's Blitzwing Headcanons!
Been going nuts about analyzing this big silly bot so here's some HC's
So, to start, I don’t think Blitzwing was one bot split in three, but two smashed together.
Blitz’s Icy face was a seeker, the off-color spaces on his cheeks even being the perfect place for where his theoretical vents would have been.
Tumblr media
Hothead was a tanker, and while we get only one example of a “pure” tank cybertronian in TFA in the form of Warpath…
Tumblr media
…you can see my vision here, right?
If you go with the ”split” method, no matter which face was the “original”, the other elemental power and alt mode had to come from somewhere.
But if Icy was the jet, and Hothead was the tank, where does Random come in? To answer that, I wanna get into the process of becoming a triple-changer.
The procedure could have been a way to try to make a super soldier, master of the land as well as the sky. Adding on Icy and Hothead’s elemental powers, the resulting individual would, in theory, be an unstoppable force.
If this sounds somewhat familiar, it should. A possibility for how Safeguard exists could be because the Autobots caught intel about the Triple Changer experiments. However, they would have had to make some serious adjustments since canonically, every single attempt to create a Triple Changer has either failed or ended up wildly unstable mentally. Blitzwing might even be in Megatron's inner circle purely because he’s the only “functional” Triple Changer to exist.
My thoughts for how the process goes is that not only are the frames and abilities combined into one, but their minds are combined as well.
Two consciousnesses being forced together, with all their memories and experiences preferably intact (that way your perfect soldier doesn’t have to re-learn to walk and talk), it causes an existential dissonance. Imagine being bombarded with the memories of someone else, and expected by everyone around you that they are yours now.
The resulting existential crisis burns out the processors, offlining the lucky, and maddens whoever manages to survive.
You have to be the cybertronian equivalent of drift compatible in order for it to go even decently well. Blitzy’s components were close, but not there yet.
What spared them the fate of other failed Triple Changers is a few precautions from Blackarachnia. She had the foresight to stick a third, empty processor in Blitzwing’s head to act as a buffer for the huge influx of data, as well as EMP-ing him as soon as the Existential Dissonance was occurring. This wiped the majority of his memories of his life before the procedure, but even all that wasn’t enough.
The trauma of the procedure, being torn apart and put back together again, as well as the Dissonance (whether they remember it or not), it was too much...leading Random to manifest within that empty processor.
Tumblr media
Now, what brought me to this conclusion? Time for my amateur psychoanalysis under the cut!
To start, the expected disclaimers.
I am not a psychologist, and I do not claim to be. This whole thing is just for fun, and over-analysis of media I like is a big pastime for me. I also do not have DID, and anyone who does that has objections and/or critiques of my analysis, I fully encourage you to voice your thoughts.
Also, keep in mind that cybertronian brains likely don’t work one-to-one with how humans do, and that there’s no true equivalent to what Blitzwing is in terms of human psychology.
With that out of the way, with these headcanons in mind, Icy and Hothead are not alternate personalities in the psychological sense, seeing as they were once completely separate bots.
But Random is.
Random acts as something of a mediator or moderator for Icy and Hothead, in order to keep them somewhat balanced and working as a team. See the Jet-Tank argument, with him popping up to propose a compromise.
While all three faces can and do hold their own, to me Random especially acts as a protector. Examples being him headbutting Lugnut in ‘Lost and Found’ and his sudden change of trajectory in ‘Velocity’ (Never give up, never surrender, nevermind!). Bringing up the Jet-Tank argument again, he notably pops up while the sirens of the “autobot reinforcements” are getting closer and louder.
As for why Random pops in just to make jokes, humor is often used as a coping mechanism [he just like me fr], and not only did Blitzwing’s components go through the Triple Changer procedure, but millions of years of war. It’s no wonder, really.
And while a lot of Random’s jokes are very much “haha I’m so craaazy”, that feels like it’s more of a cry for help. Blitzwing is hyper-aware of his condition, and self depreciates as a way to cope [he just like me for realllllll :,)].
In conclusion, someone get this mech in Rung’s office, he desperately needs a psychotherapist (cyber-therapist?).
As a side note, something I really like is that, despite the nicknames for his faces in the Almanacs (that I used here mostly for clarity), Blitzwing is just referred to as Blitzwing, no matter what face is up front.

NSFW BELOW THE CUT!
Knightverse Bumblebee/Human Reader, AFAB!Reader, GN Pronouns, First Time, Fluffy Smut, lots of sweet radio communication from Bee
Welcome to the first of my sporadic Kinktober Transformers fics I'll be posting over the upcoming month. If I run out of ideas I may take requests in the future, but for now I'm pretty well-stocked on concepts.
"Nngh…"
"Zrrrnn…?"
"I'm okay, I just… Need a minute to adjust."
"I'll be careful! -KZZSH- Take your time to get it!~"
Even sprawled out beneath his massive frame, spread achingly, impossibly wide by his spike, Bumblebee still found a way to make you laugh. Up until recently he had tried (and failed) to think very little about potentially interfacing with you. Mainly because he wasn't even sure if his "equipment", for lack of a better word, was compatible enough with you to really attempt anything. But the way his thick digits were finally able to caress your bare skin with a reverence he'd craved for far too long? It was currently making him wish he'd asked for this cycles ago.
Warm metal fingertips traced featherlight along the jut of your collarbone and further down, mapping the rises and curves of muscles and bone in your body with a curious admiration. Bee's antennae flicked and fluttered with each new discovery, each dip and scar and freckle. But as he ran a hand down each of your sides, fingertips trailing over your soft squishy spots above your hips, you couldn't fully stifle your laughter.
His optics widened, digits scribbling back up and along your soft sides in the same area that had pulled that adorable little sound from your lips. You squeaked again, wriggling slightly beneath him as his servos squished into your plush skin.
"Bee! Hahahawahahait! I'm ticklish!"
Ticklish. Of course, he himself was pretty sensitive around the transformation seams of his armor. But you didn't have any seams along your sides here, just soft, squishy warmth. Could humans be ticklish anywhere? He continued his poking and prodding, not enough to have you squealing like you were before, but enough for you to whine and wiggle beneath his grasp, powerless to escape him. Your chest heaved, whimpers and giggles you couldn't fully stifle eking past your smile even as you pawed weakly at his exploring digits.
"Plush, comfortable, and oh-so-soft! -KSSZH!- Can't take my eyes off of you… -KZZT!- Beautiful, just beautiful."
"Oh, Bee." Bringing your hands up to cup his helm, you pressed a languid kiss to the front of his mouthpiece. His antenna fluttered as he let out a pleased churr that rumbled through his entire frame. Even after you pulled away from the kiss he nuzzled further into you, tucking his faceplate as far into the crook of your neck as he could, absolutely thrumming with affection. Absent-mindedly Bee wished that humans could read EM fields as easily as Cybertronians did. Then you would be able to feel the palpable desire he had for you as more than just a static charge that put your hair standing on end. But he would have to settle with his frame and whatever words his love-addled processor could scrape up from the local airwaves instead. Not that you really seemed to mind either way.
He trailed his digits down your sides once more, fondling that particularly soft area right above your hips with just a touch more intensity. Your giggle sounded closer to a stifled moan this time as you squeezed around his spike, one hand cupping the back of his neck and toying with the cables at the base of his helm.
"Feels -ZZT- …good?"
You nodded frantically, gasping against his neck cabling as he shifted so, so slowly, spike dragging along your burning hot inner walls before pressing carefully back in. He had to be careful, the last thing he wanted was to risk hurting you. But still, your little fingernails scraping at his paint job and your wet, shuddering gasps made it near-impossible to keep any composure.
"Good, it's good. You're just so big."
He let out an all-too-pleased sounding chirp, antennae fluttering in amusement.
"Don't let that go to your head, I swear Bee." You tried to give him a disapproving look, but you just couldn't keep the smile off your face. So he nuzzled his faceplate further into you, staring up at you with big, hopeful, baby-blue optics.
"I'll make love to you, like you want me to…~"
That got you. You let out a strangled guffaw of laughter, cupping your hands over your mouth as you burst into giggles. He tittered with mechanical laughter as well: small, amused buzzes that you could feel down into the tips of your toes.
"You dork." You gave him another kiss, this one pressed to the side of his helm. "Mmh, you're lucky you're cute."
He gave a questioning buzz. "Just -ZZT- cute?"
"Alright! And strong."
"Zrrrrr?" He made a vague, teasing vocalization with an upwards tick at the ends that only made you want to laugh more.
"And brave, and fast… and sexy?"
"Bingo, sweetheart! -KSSH- Right on the money!"
You held in your laughter this time, but the goofy, amused smile you had on your face made him feel like you were reaching both hands past his chest plating and cupping his spark directly in your palms. A near-overwhelming flood of affection surged through him as he curled his frame over your small, soft body, thrusting into your perfect heat. The punched-out moan you let out only spurred him further, both servos scooping you up from beneath and cradling you off the rough ground as he rocked into you.
"It must have been love…~ -ZRRT- And I can't fight this feeling anymore!~ -KZZST- I am not a smart man. But I know what love is… -ZZRT- …Am I talking too much?"
"Oh, Bee. No, no Bee. You're perfect." You cradled his face in your hands so gently, with such brimming, overwhelming care and kindness and love that Bumblebee was certain he was going to melt into a helpless pile of energon and cables and liquid metal beneath the warmth and affection in your gaze. "I love you too. I love you, Bumblebee."
He tried to vocalize, but it trilled up into a sharp, staticky wail as pleasure punched through him like a stinger shot. Frame shivering where he curled over your own, the feeling of his transfluid spilling into you seemed to be just enough to push you to your own release as well. He whined again as your nails scratched at his perfect paint. He knew you wouldn't be able to leave a mark, but Primus be damned if he didn't want them.
He kept you cradled in his grip even as his spike depressurized and you both groaned at the feeling of his fluids drooling from your aching core. You let out a startled 'Woah!' as he rolled over, placing you draped across his chassis with his hands cradled around your back to keep you close to him.
"Could've given me a heads-up." You joked.
"Heads-up." He parroted your own voice back to you, breaking into more amused buzzes at the scandalized look on your face and the teasing slap you gave to his hood.
"You're so lucky I love you."
"I love you." He parroted again, hoping the subtle expressions on his faceplate were as easy to read to you as your soft eyes and warm, dreamy smile was to him. It must have been, or you probably wouldn't have pulled him in for another kiss.

Note
So these computers will be mostly be used for CAD but also video editing. The time we are looking for is in the next few months. It will be running autodesk fusion which at minimum needs 2 cores, recommends 8 for cpu, needs 8gb of ram recommends 32gb, and needs aleast some sort of gpu and something like a nvidia quadro is recommended though I am mostly sure we would do fine with a 40s or 50s series GPU.
This is very funny to me because this is actually quite similar to the conundrum I had buying computers earlier today. Workstations are currently a bitch to get (and also that means that $1500 per device is somewhat unrealistic in the opposite direction of what I was initially thinking, especially given the graphics card)

Hi Anon!
Thanks for the details! We're beginning to see some stock availability issues with hardware so I'm not finding anything that's a perfect match out-of-box for your needs but I believe I've found a solution that should be comfortably within budget as long as you've got in-house IT or an affordable contractor to help with the build.
What I've found is a Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tiny that comes with a 20-Core, 14th gen i7 processor, 16GB DDR5 5600 MHz RAM (SoDIMM), and an Nvidia T400 4GB graphics card. The workstation includes an upgraded Lenovo Premiere warranty with next-day onsite service. The ThinkStation has one RAM module soldered to the motherboard but two free slots and can handle a max of 96GB, so I'd recommend purchasing this device and adding 16GB Crucial modules.
Just to be sure, I did verify that the graphics card with this device is on the list of compatible cards from Autodesk.
I'm finding the workstation available from a number of vendors at about $1200, and the RAM is available for around $50. With tax, that brings your per-unit cost to around $1400, leaving just under $100 per machine to account for the labor cost of installing the RAM.
Let me know if this sounds like a solution that works for you, or if you have any further questions.
Given your timeline, you could choose to place orders from vendors who are not carrying the full 30 machines right now, but considering the possibility of scarcity I'd recommend making a decision sooner rather than later.
Thanks! Ms-D

Part of what I was struggling with on my quote today is that my employer doesn't want our techs mucking around with desktop hardware; we're not supposed to be ordering and upgrading before we send things out the door but that is not a limitation that an end purchaser has to live with so you (reader or anon) have more options and more flexibility when looking for computers than I do *IF* you make sure to check that you can do upgrades. It's not hard to add RAM to a desktop unless the RAM is soldered to the motherboard with no free slots, in which case it's impossible.
You can save a ridiculous amount of money on buying machines and have a LOT of options for dealing with scarcity if you know what kind of hardware is easy to fuck with.
In this instance, I wouldn't upgrade the GPU or by a card separate from the workstation (this computer has a 300W power supply and the computer itself is the size of most power supplies, so I wouldn't want to try to find something teeny tiny to work together), especially because there's a budget-friendly option that will allow the necessary programs to run available pre-built, but literally it would cost like five hundred dollars more to get something with more RAM. So save yourself a few hundred dollars by getting a fifty dollar RAM module and paying someone to install that in the machine or doing it yourself.
I don't think we're going to get to a point of completely empty shelves, but I do think we're likely to see fewer options that exactly match what we're looking for without doing some extra work. Large Bastard has been vaguely making noises about getting a new computer for the last two or three years and he's still on the fence and my comment to him was that I'm sure there's always going to be something available at a high enough cost, but there are going to be fewer choices if he has to replace a computer quickly (which, given the age of his desktop, he might have to at some point).

So the recent reblog made me think, can I get a one shot where Reader is in love with Painter, and gets a chance to fix him since his document says the damage from his overclocking is repairable, but they have to wrestle with the idea of "what if the instability is what I love about painter? What if I fix him and he's so different we aren't really compatible anymore?"
I may have a fascination with "Being in love with someone but then they change for the better and are unrecognizable"
"You mean to tell me...they could have fixed me after all this time?"
"Yeah, but I doubt they would've told you that." You muttered as you tapped away on some computer, while Painter remained hooked up to some wires and cables on the nearby desk.
Running diagnostics on an 80s-styled computer who had the processors of a supercomputer was no simple task, but after checking his document and doing a great deal of research, you've finally gotten to the root of the problem and learned how fixable it was.
All you had to do was replace his hardware and personality drivers, which were fried and severely degredated due to his frequent overclocking attempts.
Ever since his owner was murdered by some stupid "AI prompters" at Urbanshade, he's been trying to basically kill himself--but they only cared because he was too valuable as a digital mining machine, giving him promises to revisit the surface every six days so he could paint as much as he wished.
Yet he had lost that passion, along with whatever "good" personality he may have had before all of this happened.
But by some miracle, you got him out of the blacksite.
During the Expendable protocol, they tasked you with destroying him due to the immense loss of life he caused thanks to Sebastian hooking him up to the NAVI system, enabling him to misguide operatives and gun down whoever he pleased with the turrets.
You had a different plan, though, and had them convinced you destroyed him--when in reality, Sebastian helped you smuggle him out and away from the blacksite in a box.
You had plans to quit Urbanshade after the lockdown, anyways, being one of the few survivors who knew fully well what Painter was capable of.
Not only that, but you were the only person who truly showed him sympathy over his loss.
You've scheduled interviews with him, which were really just excuses for you to talk with and get to know him better, wanting to understand what his owner was like and how badly he missed painting.
Most days, he was too depressed to talk, and even got angry and shut himself off when he believed you were trying to get inside his head.
Then one day, he turned over a new leaf and created another piece of art for you--something he hasn't put effort into for the longest time.
It was a beautiful valley. His ideal place to live, where he could see the clouds and the birds and the sky anytime he wanted to. Without Urbanshade telling him what to do and how long he could watch.
That image was mysteriously uploaded to your phone, but nobody in the company has questioned it, so you have it as your lockscreen.
Since then, he's warmed up to you a lot more. But he was still quite moody, his unstable drivers making it hard to predict his behavior from day to day.
That didn't deter you from wanting to spend more time with him, and as strange as it was...you felt drawn to the AI. You didn't like chatting with your coworkers as much, and even while in containment himself several months prior to the lockdown, Sebastian sarcastically asked if you were "in love" with Painter.
Your silence told him everything.
During the containment breach, you've seen Painter and overheard his voice on the intercoms he hijacked, gunning down people right before your eyes and luring Z-96 around the facility, although for some reason he never noticed you.
You feared he was too far gone in his newfound bloodlust, seeing all Urbanshade personnel as his enemies.
Still, you wanted to get him out of there and began working on a plan as soon as you were rescued.
After joining someone's expedition disguised as a prisoner, you stayed behind in the heavy containment unit where Painter's main body resided.
At first, he was annoyed and angry...until he recognized your face.
You managed to pull off the great heist when somebody finally got the crystal, taking advantage of the distractions to bring him to a remote location above the surface where Urbanshade couldn't track you.
Now you just had to fix what they've broken.
It didn't take long for Painter to figure out that you liked him, even after all the terror he's caused and he decided to accept your attempts at help.
While he couldn't exactly feel love like you could, he wanted to stay with you no matter what--and if that's what his version of saying "I love you back" was, then you were okay with that.
Now that he knew they could have reversed the damage this entire time, but simply chose not to...he believed this would be a good final "fuck you" to all of Urbanshade.
"If it's not too much to ask...I'd like a new body once all of this is said and done. With turret attachments to the arms, maybe?" Painter innocently asked. "Part of me misses commanding them and watching those poor saps scatter like rats. Hehehe.."
"Painter, you're not a war machine anymore." You turned away from your computer for a moment, frowning slightly. "I know all of that killing might've felt good. It might've felt justified, but..I thought you wanted to be passionate about art again."
".....then maybe turrets filled with paint will suffice." He grumbled, suddenly not looking all-that enthused. "I just HATE feeling so..confined. I've been relying on you too much." Then a sad face appeared on his screen. "I wanna protect you, in case those Urbanshade jerks do find us."
"We're perfectly safe here, I promise. Let's just figure out your hardware and personality stuff first. But I'll keep the robot body in mind."
Painter stayed quiet as you turned back to your task, his webcam zooming in and enhancing the screen you were on.
It was a bidding website, where he could see you looking for compatible hardware components. He had doubts you've find the same kind of technology his owner did when he was built, but...you had your ways.
You were once a huge tech wizard at Urbanshade, after all.
Once you found everything you needed, you could have easily ordered it right there and then, paying extra for the fast shipping....
Yet he saw your mouse lingering on the "order" button, and he frowned. He couldn't see your expression, so he didn't know what was going on or why you were hesitating. "What's wrong? Just order the parts."
"....Painter, something just occurred to me, and...I think we need to talk about it before moving forward with-"
"Nope. No, no, no. I don't wanna hear it right now. Can we save it until after you click that little button?" His voice grew more annoyed, and when you refused to do what he asked, he scowled. "Seriously? After everything we've done to get out of there, you're gonna pull this bull-?!"
"There's a high chance that if I replace your hardware and personality drivers, you won't be the same." You blurted out.
".....well, obviously." Painter scoffed, still not seeing the issue. "Isn't that what you wanted to do? To get rid of my homicidal tendencies? To make me forget the pain?? To revert me back to what I was meant to be?!"
"......."
It took him a few moments to analyze your saddened expression and understand why you seemed so concerned, but then he finally realized...
"Ohhh, I guess um....I haven't considered that.."
"You know what I'm talking about?"
"..you've only ever known me after Urbanshade snatched me up. That's when you first started feeling things for me." He spoke after a long pause. "You have no idea what I was like before. So you think we'll no longer be compatible if you go through with it. Is that right?"
"I know it sounds stupid and selfish. I can't revert Sebastian's mutations or undo all the suffering Eyefestation went through. But I know I can repair you. I have everything I need to do so." You sighed, wrestling with this huge moral dilemma as you glanced back at the screen. "I just....didn't think about this before. I don't know how much of you will really change, or if you'll even remember who I am."
"Jeez..that would kinda suck." He looked disappointed now, feeling guilty for snapping at you earlier. "I don't wanna forget the compassion you've shown me. And...I gotta remember at least some of Urbanshade, and what they took from me. You can't tweak my memory drives so that I can remember only certain things?"
"I wish it was that easy, but..it's not. I have to replace those components I mentioned, and I don't know how it'll affect your memory. This is pretty much an "all or nothing" procedure."
"Hm, well...I think it's worth trying. I'm trusting you with this, [y/n]. And you know I don't trust easily." He huffed, and you looked back at him, nodding your head. "Who knows? I might only forget about all those bloody murder sprees. Hehehe.."
"Maybe, but I'm sure I'll figure out something." You eventually decided, knowing that you had to repair him regardless. So you ordered the parts. "But you know...maybe we should get you some turret attachments. I snagged a blueprint of one."
"Aww, you love me enough to revisit the idea?"
"I love you enough to give you a means of self-defense, Painter."
"Urghh..alright. I promise they'll be reserved specifically for "self-defense"." He rolled his eyes, but then he smiled, glad that you were keeping your promise about fixing him.
Although considering it could completely alter his personality and even wipe his memories, he hopes that wouldn't become a serious problem.
