Steve never lets you win.

He thinks it’s letting you off too easy.

The boy’s competitive to a fault. He can’t stomach a loss, even if it’s in something as meaningless as a carnival game you only wanted to play for the giant dinosaur plushie that’s half the size of you.

He always ends up giving it to you when he inevitably wins, wearing a big smug smile on his pretty, pink lips. You take it from him with a pout. The childlike scowl is quelled only by the funnel cake he buys you after.

It doesn’t matter what it is — a game of monopoly, trivia questions on the ends of popsicle sticks, taking in the groceries — Steve finds a way to make all of it competitive. He wants to have the most fake money and little fake properties, he wants to shout the answer before anyone else can, he wants to carry more heavy plastic bags than everyone else. Just to say that he did it.

If you put this much effort into school, you’d be in college right now, Harrington, you’d tease.

Not my fault you’re a sore loser, he’d retort. I’ll let you win the next one, sunshine. Promise.

He never does.

You and Steve play-wrestle like a couple of kids. It usually comes out of nowhere. You’ll make fun of him, he’ll shove at you, and you’ll shove back harder. Then it just turns into a game of who’s stronger than who — and it’s always him. Obviously.

You try your hardest to prove your strength, pushing at him with nimble fists and wriggling something fierce in his hold, but you come out red-faced with a participation ribbon laced within his taunts. And even though he’s got several inches on you and quite a bit more muscle, he never lets you win. Ever.

He manhandles you, perhaps a little too rough at times, but it wasn’t like he had to be kind to you. You weren’t dating or anything, you were best friends — this is what a couple of pals do, right?

They play fight on the carpet of the other’s movie room after being told their closest confidant would murder them in a game of fuck, marry, kill between Anthony Michael Hall and Robert Downey Jr. with zero hesitation.

Friends totally force the other onto the ground by grabbing at the bottoms of their thighs before kneeling over them, wrenching their wrists in their grip and pressing their hands to the ground on either their head.

It’s the definition of being best buds. Truly.

For the first time, you manage to get the better of him. You’re pressed beneath his weight, breathing heavy and rapidly tiring, and you wave the white flag of surrender.

Just when Steve's letting you up and swiping a hand through his mussed hair, you force him onto his back and straddle his waist — like he always did to you — and giggle with mirth at the idea of finally beating him.

He doesn’t find a similar enthusiasm in it, though. His tune changes almost immediately.

You beam down at him, the words of a taunt on the tip of your tongue, and you notice how his cheeks flare pink. His honey-colored eyes widen and his mouth falls softly agape. He glows red in embarrassment and you think he’s just upset that he lost, but he sounds like he’s panicking. The words rush out of his mouth — “Alright, shit, fine— you win, sunshine. Get off, alright? Off, off, off.”

His hand swats at the side of your knee to hurry you off him.

“Alright, jeez!” you concede with the roll of your eyes, halfway annoyed that he just can’t let you win anything. “You don’t have to be such a sore loser about it, Harrington—”

You understand his haste in that moment, when you feel him brush your inner thigh. Like, all of him — as in, the boner trapped in the sweatpants he’s wearing, all rock hard and raging in its cotton confines.

Suddenly, you’re just as bashful and panicked as he is.

Your eyes lock at the rock hard realization but neither of you can think of anything to say.

Do you apologize? Do you act like you didn’t feel anything? Do you trust your voice to make a stupid joke so you can move on and forget any of this ever happened? You’re not quite sure.

And in the five-second silence, Steve just wants to die. Internally, he’s praying for a strike of lightning to take him out on the spot because he’s never been more embarrassed in his life.

He’s certain that he’s grossed you out, or worse, made you irreversibly uncomfortable.

In the mess of thoughts running through his head, he tries to rush out some apology that might soothe the awkward air. Your laughter does all the work for him before he can.

It bubbles like sunshine from your mouth, filling the silence and allowing Steve to breathe again. He finds himself chuckling under his breath with you, though he’s still red-faced about it.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Keep laughing, sunshine,” he chides with the roll of his eyes, though a smile hints at the edges of his mouth. He rises on his elbows to look at you. “What was I supposed to do? Your tits were in my face and your ass was on my dick— sorry for being human!”

“Sorry, alright? I’m sorry,” you manage through hearty giggles. You settle finally at his side and look over at him, still grinning. “Want me to leave so you can… take care of it or whatever?”

He knows you’re joking but he shakes his head anyway. “Nah, it’ll go away. Let’s just… finish this stupid movie.”

“Stupid movie? You picked it!”

“Yeah, so I could see Kelly Lebrock in a bikini!” he argues back, more thankful for the familiar bickering than he ever thought he’d be. “But you made me miss it!”

“It’s not my fault you can’t keep your hands to yourself.”

“Watch it, sunshine,” he grumbles, half-heatedly. “Don’t start something you can’t finish.”

“I think you’re the one who needs to worry about finishing, Harrington,” you joke and giggle when he shoves you.

You would’ve helped him, if he wanted you to. You know it’s uncomfortable and that it’s partially your fault. You also know that all of those are just excuses to cover up the fact that you’ve always wondered what his cock looks like.

He’d need only ask you, but you know that he won’t.

Even if he did like you in that way, it’d just make things all complicated. And that was totally the opposite of the effortless relationship you’ve developed with him. The kind of effortless where he can be rock hard next to you, and you’ve both decided to just move on from it.

Steve, meanwhile, spends the rest of the movie not watching a single damn minute of it. He’s too busy trying to calm himself down like a teenage boy and figuring out he can get you on top of him again without being too obvious about the whole thing.

He decides he might just start swallowing his pride and let you win sometimes.

Welcome to the Grand Opening of Freddy Fazbears Balloon Circus!

After an array of previous undisclosed incidents at the Mega Pizzaplex, ending with the sudden collapsing of the building due to an unexpected earthquake, Fazbear Enterprise has demolished the old mall and rebuilt a new and improved carnival on the property! But just because the attractions above ground have been overhauled, doesn't mean the secrets beneath the surface have magically disappeared.

EVERYTHING HERE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE!! This AU has just been pieced together by my insane ramblings to my friend over the past few days, so everything in it's early stages of development, and this post is being written VERY late while I'm very sleep deprived and just trying to finish it in time to schedule it! If some things are a bit weird or inconsistent then please keep that in mind! Thank you! :D

Gregory, Vanessa, and Freddy all return to the now renovated lot where the Pizzaplex once stood, having been called back two years after their last failed visit too save a long lost friend, too repair their old creation known at the M.X.E.S after it was suddenly and unexplainably shut down again. Upon entering the new-ish carnival, they'll quickly find it hard to safely look for the entrance to the layers below as the friendly mascot suits above chase after them for being unwanted guests.

Above ground, they're hunted by the mascots- new suits built for both performers and endoskeletons to be able to wear. This night, controlled by corrupted endoskeletons, they've been ordered to chase after the intruders by someone lurking below the carnivals ground. As well as finding the littler animatronics, known as Balloon Babies, to be quite the inconvenience.

Below ground, they're hunted by the old Glamrocks, still functional after all this time, and now under a new threats command that's also trying to keep the 3 star family from reaching M.X.E.S; Vannie. Aka, Cassie. Still here in the ruins of it all, waiting for the her perfect moment to lure the family back in and get her revenge for what they did to her all those years ago.

The mascots are the new faces of the Freddy Fazbears Balloon Circus, their costumes built to be worn by both endoskeletons and actors- but in a safer way than the springlock suits. The actors are used during the day for greeting and interacting with guests, putting on performances, etc etc. While the endoskeletons are used at night as a replacement for security guards and STAFF bots, kindly, but forcefully, escorting any intruders off the premises. Under Vannie's control they, of course, are much less kind and gentle with how they "escort" the 3 star fam out of the carnival.

Balloon Babies are smaller, almost Helpy-like animatronics in appearance, built to keep lost and lonely children happy and entertained while waiting for their guardian to arrive. They can't speak, but they can play song, games, sound effects, blow up balloons with their fingertips, etc etc. They found Gregory after he had been forcefully split up from Vanessa and Freddy by the mascots, and upon the family reuniting, the Balloon Babies more annoying feature kicked in: The Emergency Alert System. Whenever a child they are playing with is approached by an odd looking adult or other figure that seems like they could be a potential threat to the child's safety, whether that be a kidnapper, unfit guardian, bully, etc. the Balloon Babies will use their emergency alert system to call one of the mascots over and deal with the threat, kindly guiding the threat away and bringing the kid to a safer area away from potential danger where they can stay with staff until a proper guardian arrives. The Balloon Babies had decided in their time with Gregory that Vanessa and Freddy were unfit guardians for leaving Gregory scared and alone this late at night, and any time Vanessa and/or Freddy is nearby, their alert system will sound off and call a mascot to their location. The problem, other than the obvious, is that the Balloon Babies are fixated on Gregory. They will always be attracted to him and find their way back to him no matter what, with the only exception being when he's under ground. Which means that, until they can find a way to deactivate or otherwise get rid of these guys, Gregory is forced to be split up from Vanessa and Freddy above ground, and regroup underground.

The only exception is Goldie, a soft yellow version of the Freddy Balloon Baby that doesn't follow the others. Goldie is the only one of the Balloon Babies that can go underground, Vannie specifically programming him to be able to do so. He follows Vannie around and provides her with much needed company, being her only real friend down here besides Roxy. Later on, Gregory will find Goldie, but instead of calling for the mascots whenever Vanessa is near, he'll send out a signal to distract the other Balloon Babies away from Gregory so they won't call for the mascots or overwhelm him. Goldie can tell that Vanessa and Freddy are fit guardians that love Gregory very much, and can also tell that they're afraid of the mascots, though he can't compute why- it's his job to make sure that kids and their families are safe, so he's doing his best to ensure their safety however he can. Later on, Vannie will come looking for her friend after a long period of time of him being away and find him with the 3 star family, causing more conflict between the two parties that Goldie can't understand- Cassie and Gregory are supposed to be friends, aren't they? That's what Cassie said. Friends aren't supposed to fight each other, they're supposed to protect each other. That's what Goldie believes, at least.

Random trivia;

-Gregory, Freddy, and Vanessa have been living together for about 3 years now. 1 year by the time of Ruin, and 2 years after the fact leading up to Balloon Circus.

-Cassie has been gaslit into thinking that all the stuff Dr. Rabbit did was actually Gregory himself with no outside influence, only fueling her want for revenge, not only for the elevator incident, but everyone he hurt. This will affect Gregory greatly(he has not 100% recovered and this Does Not Help).

-Cassie still doesn't fully trust the Mimic, despite being under its influence. She let the M.X.E.S stay up after the 3 star family put it back up after Ruin despite Mimic's demands for her to shut it down again, assuring him it was "part of her plan". She wasn't entirely lying, shutting down the M.X.E.S was how she wanted to lure the family back, but she'd be lying if she said it wasn't also partially because she wanted to keep "that old endo" sealed away. He's not completely free from fault either.

-Gregory and Vanessa both have chips implanted in their heads, it's how Dr. Rabbit and Vanny took over way back when. Those same chips gave them VR vision, but the chips have since been "domesticated" and can't go full VR mode anymore. Despite this fact, they do still have a few side effects of the VR vision, such as some walls and objects simply not existing, despite them looking perfectly normal and real. They can phase through them without trouble, and this helps them navigate the Balloon Circus, becauseeeeeee;

-Cassie was there during the construction of the circus and set up VR walls in certain spaces to help her hide out and travel around undetected, even during the day. The 3 star family can also use these now as an easier way of navigating through the circus, but also as a way to hide from the mascots and even sometimes the Balloon Babies.

-The entrance to the underground levels is behind a VR wall, but it's one set up by the construction workers so the patrons wouldn't notice it. The reason an intentional opening is there is because the new entrance is now used as a dumping ground for stuff from random items from the ruins of the Pizzaplex to unused stuff from the circus to anything the employees with access to the area want to throw in there. It's how the ruined Glamrocks ended up there.

-The Glamrocks were being slowly reintroduced to the public, the biggest attraction so far being 'Chica of the Sea', a tent for the underwater hologram show of a prerendered mermaid Glamrock Chica that would swim around, wave at guests, and do a few preset moves that employees could turn on whenever. There's hints of them wanting to reintroduce the others as well that haven't been shown off to the public yet, with the new roles being; Glam Freddy and Bonnie are the co-ringmasters of the main tent where the mascots performances are held, making sure everything runs smoothly. Roxanne is the mascots and glamrocks make up artist, as well as offering to do make up/face paint for any patrons that came by her tent (for a price, of course). And Monty would roam around the circus grounds as a strongman showing off his incredible strength. He also has a tent for this, but he was mostly supposed to roam around and sometimes try and make people swing by his tent, mostly so they would buy his merch.

-Chica being the first to be reintroduced has an effect on her character below ground, with her hearing the news and trying her best to dress herself up in whatever scraps she could find to look like her mermaid counterpart, practicing her singing and dancing despite her condition so she could prove that she could be just as good as the hologram if she just got a few repairs.

-Roxanne is headless, having lost her head in her tussle with the Mimic. But she still has control of both her body and head, carrying around her decapitated head in her arms.

-Vannie/Cassie cares about Goldie soso much that's her new bestie<33 Friendship ended with Gregory, Goldie is new best friend<3 (I'm so sorry Gregory)

-Vannie is also known as Vengeful Vannie, but usually shortened to just 'Vannie'. A callback to the "Vengeful Spirit" aka Cassidy, because I think the parallels between the two are neat<3 (THIS MEANS NOTHING LORE WISE IT'S JUST A NAMING THING.)

-Some of the stuff at Balloon Circus was bought from the carnival mentioned to be across the street from the Pizzaplex in the TFTPP epilogues, and rebranded to fit with the new Fazbear theming

It's so fascinating the circus themed mini games in Helpwanted2.

It's fascinating that the FNAF4 house burns outside of the carousel mini game.

It's fascinating how Moon is the most reoccurring animatronic in this game as a whole, even playing a pivotal role in one of the endings.

It's also double fascinating that Sun seems to understand Fazbear Entertainment has scummy practices, like making children's art their international property if created on their property. He knows he's neglected, knows no one will fix him. (And only desperately approached Cassie in ruin cus she had the tools. )

Sun knows that Fazbear let's things fall by the wayside if they're not bringing money, like the carousel itself.

All of this new info has me thinking....

Maybe the Daycare Attendant wasn't even a theatre bot for Fazbear Entertainment in the first place.

I wonder if he was an animatronic designed for a Carnival or the Circus, and Fazbear Entertainment bought him out for their theatre.

Things like that are not unheard of in this universe. Especially when the books are concerned.

So it could be a possibility.

Consider that the balloon boy world minigame found in Sun and Moon's room, you play as a Balloon boy, who runs away from the circus to go on a journey past the mountains.

...I don't know. It's a thought.

I feel it gives Sun's passive agressiveness and self awareness of Fazbear's shitty practices a bit more sense. Cause he was never made for them to begin with.

i saw someone in a post i made about wdw parks history lamenting the 20000 leagues under the sea ride that closed down and i have GREAT news i have been WAITING for a chance to talk about this

i would love 2 take this chance to bring to the wider public's attention TOKYO DISNEYSEA, aka the best disney park objectively- at this park, they actually have a modern incarnation of 20k leagues but updated with a lot of very clever engineering tricks and a gorgeous steampunk-adjacent aesthetic but one with a lot more whimsy. its aesthetically a lot like the tommorrowland at disneyland paris, actually

they even have the kraken still in there! updated to seem a lot more visually menacing. i believe the eye on it even moves!

and hey you know how 20k leagues in its original incarnation had a lot of issues with people finding the design of the subs claustrophobic since the seating was so cramped? that's been updated too! you can clearly see that this ride vehicle was designed with the comfort of larger groups in mind, while also still feeling like its a rusty old submarine.

ok this is cool right. like surely thats cool on its own-

yeah no this ride is also connected to a journey to the center of the earth ride. and not a dark ride either this thing is almost comparable to a roller coaster combined with a dark ride. its a really unique ride system.

also the ride itself is built into a volcano structure with a beautiful waterfront in front of it (beautiful waterfronts are disneyseas whole thing actually)

ALSO the ride is really notable for having this GIANT CREATURE ANIMATRONIC in there thats REALLY reminiscent of the alien encounter animatronic! (or at least the documented records of it)

and the coolest thing is the entire park is brimming with this amount of creativity. you see, disney doesnt actually own the tokyo resort. they dont have complete control that they do over, say, the orlando resort. the oriental land company owns it because they own the land it was built on. so instead of disney mandating them to put certain things in, they license their properties to them. i assume that because disneys grip is a lot more loose on this park, the designers are able to take a lot more creative liberties and experiment with this sort of stuff (not entirely sure on that, but given just how different this park feels from anything else disneys ever made i can only assume that'd be the case. if anyone knows any other details on how this park turned out like it did aside from this, lmk!)

like, even the areas that are licensed have very creative things going on with them - look at this little mermaid area thats designed to resemble the architecture of the castle from the film

and even the area for the toy story ride is gorgeous, its designed to resemble coney island era carnival boardwalks!

this whole park is so fascinating to me because its very evident that the designers for this park repurposed a lot of the concepts they never got to make. even the parks name is a reference to a cancelled west gate to disneyland called disneysea, which is, like the one in tokyo, a sea/maritime themed park. and even outside of that, if youre at all familiar with disney history you can clearly tell which cancelled projects the designer of this park were inspired by!

i dunno, this whole park has captivated me a lot when i was younger because its like a bunch of these crazy passion projects the engineers were rooting for for years that only existed within concept art finally brought to life after years, maybe decades. ive always found it really beautiful that the creative team behind these parks found a way to make their ideas truly work in a park. i think its a shame that more disney park history enthusiasts straight up do not know that this park exists just because it's not one of the US resorts since those always get all of the attention in discussions of wdw history. hopefully this post can change that!

Jordan is large on physical affection, holding hands in public, kissing on the cheek, and a hand on the small of the back to guide you two. Marie is better with her words, telling you both how much she loves you two with bright smiles and lingering touches. You get the best of both worlds with these two

b = bed; what’s the sleeping situation like? are there regular sleeping arrangements - does anyone like to sleep alone?

You all sleep in one bed, and though it might be a bit squished you all make it work. Most nights Marie is in the middle with Jordan and you on the outside. But one hand would be touching each person, joint hands with Jordan over Marie while your other hand is wrapped around Marie's waist.

But this is up to change, if one of you has a bad day they are instantly in the middle of being smothered with love.

c = comfort; when someone’s feeling down, how do the rest look after them?

It really depends on who is upset, if Marie is upset Jordan and you make her something sweet to eat. What is better than homemade cookies made by your two lovers? You'll put on some classic movie that Marie has never seen but you have seen a million times, cuddle together and just eat cookies.

With Jordan, it is slightly different, when upset they tend to get angry and need a moment to just cool down by themselves. But as soon as they are calm property brothers are on and a cuddle pile is being initiated on the bed.

When you are upset, the pair do whatever they think is best. Just want to cuddle and forget about the day? Count them in. Want to go do something to try and forget about the shitty day? Awesome, let's go to the carnival that has just popped up. Just want to be by yourself for a bit? That's totally fine, message them when you want them.

d = dates; what do dates look like? who usually plans them, or are is it a group affair?

Dates can vary from going out to the movies, to carnivals or to the beach. But you all aren't opposed to staying in, setting up a pillow fort with movies and sweets. As long as you all are together and having a good time, it's a good date in your eyes.

You tend to organise these dates, making sure they fit within the busy schedules of your lovers. But you all try to take a day once a month to just go on a date and have fun.

e = events; who drags everyone else to their family/friends’ events?

You are the one who tends to drag Marie and Jordan to family events. You already view them as part of your family so it is only natural you invite them to a big Halloween bash with the cousins your age. To Marie being dragged to these events makes her feel like she has a family again, awaking some small memory fragments of large birthdays she has forgotten. To Jordan, it is refreshing to see a family that does not judge them. Of course, some of your uncles or Aunts might make a comment, but you tend to be quick to shut it down with a glare and a few words.

f = fights; are arguments something that happen often? what are they over, and how are they resolved?

Serious fights are not something that happens often in the relationship, you all tend to be rather open with one another. But when it does happen it can span hours. There tend to be two fighting parties and one neutral ground, picking sides only ever ends in trouble.

There'll be a period of just animosity, people needing to cool down by themselves for a moment and think over the issue. Then the neutral party comes to check on each person asking if they need anything, being a shoulder to cry on or an ear to rant to. They give some advice and help bring the pair together to talk it out.

g = getting together; how did it all come about? were there any pre-existing relationships between them?

You and Jordan were together first, you had been dating for some time but you both could not help but feel there was something missing. Bringing Marie in took a bit of time, you were the first to warm up to her, while Jordan was a bit more reserved. You felt a similar spark with Marie that you did Jordan, the small rise in your heartbeat and pink that dusts your cheeks when you are with her. But it seemed Jordan was not feeling the same way, almost pushing her away from you both.

It would be a large conversation with Jordan after Marie and you almost kissed after some heated words. You had felt horrible and were quick to ruin your partner to confess. You explained everything, how you had the same feelings for you as you did them. The fear of being called a slut and Jordan breaking up with you was almost debilitating. But Jordan was quick to confess a similar feeling for Marie, while still holding feelings for you.

The conversation extended to Marie, who thought the worst, that Jordan had come to yell at her for what happened between you two. But she was surprised to hear a confession from their mouth followed by one from yours. The beginning was rocky, but your relationship finally feels complete.

h = hobbies; does anyone share any hobbies/passions? how do they include the rest of their partners in them?

Despite all having different hobbies you all find a way to integrate each other into it. Jordan will be gaming on the couch, trying out a new video game they brought. Marie is beside them finishing a drawing she has been working on. And you're relaxing on a beanbag making the perfect friendship bracelets to gift to Emma. You're all doing your own activity but what makes it perfect is just being near each other doing it.

i = in sickness and in health - when someone falls ill, who’s the carer and who’s the germaphobe? is there anyone that resists being looked after?

Marie is the more doting of the pair, the one who actually does things to get you better. Going to buy some medicine for you. Making some soup. Make some tea at the perfect temperature for your sore throat. But Jordan believes quality time with you is the best medicine, cuddling you in bed, putting a comfort movie on. They could not care less about getting your sickness. Despite that, they whine when they do get sick from you.

j = joker; who’s got the best sense of humour? do they like to tease and banter with everyone else?

Jordan is banter royalty, teasing you and Marie over anything and everything. Struggling to lift something? Jordans there with some teasing words and strong arms. Accidentally said a word wrong, be prepared to hear it for the rest of the day. Their words come from a place of love and if someone ever expresses it being take too far they are quick to rectify their mistake.

k = knowing; who can read their partners like a book? is there anyone who’s got their walls up, even around their partners?

Marie is the best at reading you both, from a small shift in your attitude or body language. Growing up where she did, one has to hyperalert, picking up on things before everyone else. If she notices a negative shift she is quick to try and rectify it, asking you about it softly. But she won't pry if you don't feel like talking about it.

There is nothing you two can hide from Marie, especially after she gets a better hang on her powers and can feel your heart rate speed up.

l = lavish; is there anyone who really likes to treat their partners/show them off? how do the rest tend to react - who revels in it, and who’s made shy by it?

Jordan has the money to give Marie and you the best gifts they can get their hands on. Looking at a nice dress but expressing that it's a bit too expensive? It's on your bed the next day with a small note. But while Jordan's presents are brought, Marie's gifts are made. She never grew up with a crazy amount of money and after her parent's death, she had nothing. She learned the best way to gift people things is to make them. Beaded necklaces. Charmed bracelets. Collage of you three together. She pours a lot of love and time into the gifts she makes and you treasure them.

m = memories - is anyone more on the sentimental side?

You all are sentimental people when it comes to your relationship. Jordan has a Polaroid picture of you and Marie in bed in their wallet, something they love looking at. Marie's lock screen is a picture of you three on your first date together. You still have all the tickets from any carnival, movie or event you have all gone together.

n = nights; what’s the nighttime routine like when they’re all together?

You all complete your separate nighttime routines, moisturising, removing makeup, taking off jewellery etc. You tend to be the first in bed, snuggling into the covers and enjoying the space you have before your lovers come to bed. Marie loves to slink in next to you, stealing back some covers as she wraps her arms around you with a small smile. Jordan tends to just jump into bed, pulling the covers from your grips so they have a reasonable amount. They'll pull Marie and you closer to them, saying something about feeling left out. Before you all settle for the night.

o = open; how open is everyone with one another?

You all tend to be open with one another about how you feel, what you want, and what's going on. But there are some things you all keep private, viewing it as good to have some things for yourself. If they feel comfortable with sharing something from their past, you are all happy to listen and provide support if needed.

However, if something is making someone upset or stressed you have all spoken about just talking about it save a possible argument that might come from it. The last thing you want is an insecurity to ruin your day when you can just talk about it.

p = pda; what’s pda like with them? is there anyone who loves it, and anyone who’s less fond of it? what actions/words does it manifest as?

Jordan is the biggest on PDA, they love showing you and Marie off, showing that you both are theirs. But there are limits on what happens in public, hand holding, quick kisses, hand in back pockets as far as they go. Anything else is behind closed doors and only for the relationship's eyes.

q = quiet; who prefers to spend their time with their partners out and about, and who likes to spend it at home?

Marie prefers to stay home together, spending the day watching popular movies everyone but she has seen. She enjoys just spending time with her partners in a familiar area, cooking something together and just relaxing.

Jordan on the other hand prefers going places with their partners. Visiting new attractions, going to a club or just taking a hike somewhere. It is not about where you go but more about experiencing things together.

r = romantic; is anyone a bit of a sap for their partners?

In my eyes, Jordan can be a bit of a hopeless romantic. You both just make them feel accepted and safe that they want to be able to give back that feeling of love to the pair of you. This can be in the form of randomly sending flowers with cute notes. Surprise dates to a cute coffee shop. A day in, filled with everyone's favourite movies.

s = sharing; is there anyone who’s particularly territorial of their partners?

Many might think it is Jordan but to me it is Marie. She's grown up with nothing, no family, no personal possessions, no nothing. It's caused her to get a little territorial due to the fear of losing you both. You both are the most precious things she has and the thought of losing you crushes her. That you may fall out of love with her at some point and just leave her like everyone else.

t = terms of endearment; nicknames! who’s crazy on them, and who do they make cringe? what’re the go-to’s?

You all have different nicknames for each other, it is something you all love. Marie tends to be called beautiful, princess, and honey. Jordan is darling, sweetheart, and sugar. They call you baby, love, sweetie.

u = urge; who’s the most impulsive? who do they loop into their plans, and who entertains their antics?

You are the one to rope Jordan and Marie into your antics all the time. Half the time the others come just to see what happens, if your plan will actually work or if they have to help you out. They happily watch on the sidelines with a goofy smiles, placing small bets on what will happen

v = vacations; how do holidays go? are they big exotic trips, or the occasional staycation?

You're all College students with no money, so staycations are the typical go-to. Travelling around pretending to be tourists, going to typical tourist attractions, taking photos of everything, eating out. Despite it not being much, you three make it worth it.

w = worthy; how are insecurities handled? is anyone more self-conscious than the others?

You all have your own insecurities that you each help each other through. Helping Jordan is full of soft touches and kind words, their insecurities make them feel weak and stupid lashing out at those around them. It is best to allow them a moment before carefully bringing them into an embrace, whispering praise in their ears.

Marie needs more physical affirmation, to be smothered by the love of her partners. To be brought into such a tight embrace she just forgets about her worries.

x = xoxo; who checks up on their partners a lot when they’re apart? do they call, or are texts enough to make them feel close?

Ever since she was given a phone, Marie is constantly texting you both. It's full of emojis and hearts, and at times she sends gifs. She loves checking in, if you are a part expect a good morning and good night text. Small messages throughout the day asking how you are, and what you are doing. She loves to hear about your day.

y = yearn; who misses their partners the easiest (ie, calls them to hear their voices when all they’ve done is run to the grocery store)?

Jordan is a massive sap, while Marie may text a few times a day just to check and make sure you are fine, Jordan is ringing you whining about wanting to hear your voices, demanding to Facetime while they run to the store. They are just so obsessed with you and Marie that they physically yearn to be close to you both.

z = zealous; who was especially eager in their pursuit of the relationship? was anyone more reserved in their want for it?

You were the most eager to pursue the relationship and are the one who brought it up. The idea of a poly relationship was foreign to the pair, something they did not think they would find themselves in. Despite being very nervous about bringing it up not to seem desperate and Jordan to believe they are not enough, it turned out to be the best decision of your life.

For this challenge, we are asking you to use the rule of three. What does that mean?

In this case, it means you choose three of the tropes listed below the cut and create something with all three woven in. How you do so is entirely up to you. We are accepting both aesthetic and written pieces for this challenge.

As this is our October/Halloween challenge, we do hope that your work will have a creepy or suspenseful undertone, but by no means does it need to be pure horror. However, we do highly encourage supernatural elements and monsters and any creativity you come up with.

Deity: Litirenn, He who Guides the Vine

Days of bread and wine, are only by design/ Every petal worked, every spirit corked, every silver shined/ Every furnace lit, every lamb and spit, every silver shined/ -Only by Design, From Devil's Carnival: Alleluia!

It is hard work averting famine, a toil through seasons of gruelling weather to ensure the next harvest fares a little better than the last. To turn a scattering of seeds from errant prairie grasses into life sustaining bread is a generations long labour, but it is holy and there is no god that holds it more holy than Litirenn, Steward of Tilled Earth.

Born from a union between a god of growing things and a god of craft, Litirenn's sphere of influence has expanded over time from simple cultivation to any who wish to understand and then improve on nature's designs: Herbalists, natural philosophers, alchemists, biomancers, and those that would remake themselves seeking an inner truth.

Few temples are kept for him, but one can often find the Steward's marks worked in over the doorways of granaries, mills, and wine cellars, or sketched in the margins of a hand bound folio of research notes.

Adventure Hooks:

The grain harvest is coming in, which means the local brigands will be circling like buzzards and the village needs the party to act as bodyguards to ensure their livelihood seven samurai style. The brigands in question however are not outlaws but soldiers of the local warlord, who is currently in dispute with the village over how much grain they owe him for protection.

The village witch is in quite a fix after cultivating a new verity of foreign flower looking to make inadvertently attracting all sorts of weird magical insects to his cottage. The infestation has deprived him of his house, the town of herbal remedies, and the party of cheap healing potions. Something must be done about it.

Seeking to catalogue, preserve, and most of all taste every variety of apple ever grown on the material plane, an eccentric gnomish orchardist has broken into the elfqueen's private gardens and stolen a fruit from a silver tree placed there by the Archheart themselves. The queen's agents would like this handled delicately, not only because the gnome managed her infiltration by seducing the queen (who's quite broken up about it) but also disruption of the tree may juuuuuust have triggered a calamitous prophecy.

Signs: Plants fruiting out of season with abundant growth and fantastical properties, visions of how things came to be made. The appearance of frogs, butterflies, and other creatures that go through a metamorphosis.

Symbols: A vine laden trellis, though alchemical aspects often use the symbol of a snake coiled among grapes.

The Red Circle

Published in 1911 as a two-parter, this is the penultimate story we'll be covering His Last Bow, leaving just the titular story there.

This does sound rather like "The Veiled Lodger", doesn't it?

These days, you'd have to check the immigration status of your tenants. In 1902, really not an issue. Although anti-immigrant sentiment was definitely there and growing.

Those strange coded personal messages - some even encrypted - very much existed in newspapers back then. Once radio had become a thing, the British would use them on radio broadcasts to Occupied Europe in the Second World to get messages to the resistance movements. Including the "get ready" and "go" codes for the mass sabotage operations that preceded Operation Overlord in 1944.

"Timekeepers" were used for recording arrivals and departures at a site, including that of staff for the purposes of paying wages, determining lateness etc.

Great Orme Street is more properly called Great Ormond Street, located in Bloomsbury. It is best known for the world-famous children's hospital called Great Ormond Street Hospital. They have a permanent UK copyright to Peter Pan which gives them a right to royalties for publications, adaptations, performances etc. The US copyright on the original version expires next year. If anyone wants to do a LfW retelling of the original book, it would be nice to contact them and arrange a donation. They're a very good organisation.

"Art for Art’s sake" was a French slogan from the latter half of the 19th century. You may know its Latin version - ars gratia artis - as the motto of film studio MGM.

The light flashing message gets a whole chapter covering it in Klinger's annotated version, as it's been heavily discussed by scholars. Basically, it would take multiple minutes to send that message.

The Pinkerton detective agency did a lot of investigative work in its early days, both criminal investigation and more nefarious stuff to aid strike-breaking. The latter got the US government banned from hiring them as such in the 1893 Anti-Pinkerton Act. They are still involved in anti-union stuff today.

Much of Notting Hill had become increasingly slum-like by this time as an influx of people led to houses built for one family being split to hold far more; the idea when the area was built was for the middle classes to live there, but they didn't buy the properties. It later attract large numbers of Afro-Caribbean immigrants in the post-war era, partly as the notorious slum landlord Peter Rachman was prepared to rent to them while others weren't. This growing ethnic tension culiminated race riots in 1958, with white "Teddy Boys" attacking West Indian homes. Since then, the slums have been cleared and the area has gentrified quite a bit.

It is also home to the annual Notting Hall carnival every August since 1965 (bar 2020 and 2021), which around 2 million people attend. The Metropolitan Police have moved from active hostility to active cooperation in its running and there will be photos of officers dancing with those in the parade at any given carnival. The reputation for violence is unjustified and arguably fuelled by racism - while there were frequently arrests for violence, drugs and weapons offences, on a pro-rata basis, the arrest rate is about the same as the Glastonbury Festival.

The Carbonari ("charcoal makers") were secret revolutionary societies active in what would become Italy in the early 19th century. After failed uprisings in 1831, the various Italian governments cracked down hard on them and they were effectively eliminated. They were not really engaged in protection rackets.

Dynamite was patented by Alfred Nobel in 1867. Being a good deal more stable than nitrogyclerine - although storage is important as old dynamite is a good deal less stable - it became popular for terrorists and criminals, with a series of bombings by Irish republicans between 1881 and 1885 leading to the formation of Special Branch.

Covent Garden is home to the Royal Opera House.
