From this past weekend:  Ka-Bar (9 mos) working on defensive drive, bite targeting, and maintaining grip while his legs, feet, or body are being taken out of his control.

i dont get into dog politics on here often but

-shop OR adopt RESPONSIBLY. get from ethical breeders, and/or keep in mind any potential difficulties you may hit if you adopt to get your dog up for success

-no it is not "all in how theyre raised". how you raise them is Absolutely a factor, but some dogs are not going to like other dogs, or be small animal aggressive, or have no tolerence for children, likely because of what breed they are, and thats okay!!! accommodate them, youre their parent, know who they are and take care of them. be kind and understanding of people with reactive dogs who are doing their best.

-dog sports and dog jobs are great! in some dogs theyre genuinely vital! if you have a dog that enjoys it and you enjoy it, its wonderful for bonding + your dog can be an excellent asset to you depending on the work you do. but a dog without a job isnt inherently some souless empty miserable husk of an animal and if you think it is im deeply concerned for you. also stop compulsion training, i can see you doing it, your dog isnt a robot chill the fuck out

-somewhere along the line lot of dog people overcorrected the "its all in how you raise them" misinfo by diving headfirst into "actually everything you need to know about your dog is in the breed, it comes preprogrammed with x personality, and if you dont know exactly how to perfectly operate this robot dog then you shouldnt even breath near one"

-throwing rocks at you all it has always been and will always be Both nature and nurture pull your fucking heads out of your asses i know youre in love with the smell of your own shit but you gotta come out of there at some point

-i do not trust white women who are way too obsessed with having a protection dog. i said it. you stink of the very intense and specific white woman victim complex and i See you putting your dog inbetween you and every person of colour or houseless individual that walks by. yes cis women are often targets of violence, but not nearly to the extent of women of colour and trans women, and cis white women being completely and utterly obsessed with being the innocent victim at all times gets people fucking killed. youre not a girlboss for training your malinois to growl at a man of colour on command, you are literally just an oblivous racist. you can have a protection dog, thats fine, but read a fucking book or watch an essay on the role white women play in maintaining white supremacy, and learn to be aware of how you may unintentionally perpetuate it.

what's my biggest pet peeve well it's when someone makes a text post on tumblr dot com in which they are trying to romanticize the notion of the livestock guardian dog but they don't know the distinction between a livestock guardian dog and a herding dog and also they've never met a livestock guardian dog and do not realize what their attitudes towards the sheep that they protect actually are

hold on I’m going to be emo about Digimon for a moment. The whole essence of the franchise is “my good weird talking dog loves me soooo much and all they want is to live peacefully by my side but when my life is threatened (which is often) they transform into an immensely powerful being just so they can give their life up for mine. And sometimes they do and sometimes they are reborn but other times they do not come back and there is no way to repay or fill their loss. And sometimes I betray them but they will forgive me forever no matter how I mistreat them. And sometimes they forget who I am but they will never stop following me because that love doesn’t go away. All they want is to stay small and get head scritches and snacks but the world gets threatened literally every day so they’re always fighting for me.
