1. The Importance of Foundational Footwork Powerful strikes, whether a punch or a kick, start from the ground up. Think of your feet as the roots of your fighting stance. They provide stability and control your balance. Like a bicycle’s handlebars that direct where you’re going, your feet guide your body’s movement and position you for offensive or defensive maneuvers. Proper footwork allows you to generate force efficiently, transferring energy through your legs, hips, and core, before it finally explodes into your striking arm or leg. Key idea: You can’t throw a strong punch if you’re off-balance. Without stable footing, your energy dissipates, and your strike loses speed and power. 2. Old-School Movement Mechanics Old-school boxers are famed for their elegance and efficiency in the ring. They understood that every move should have a purpose: nothing wasted, nothing flashy for the sake of it. This means: Shifting Weight Gradually When old-school boxers move, their weight transitions seamlessly from one foot to the other. The stance remains wide enough for balance but narrow enough for quick pivots. Small, Precise Steps Large, clumsy steps leave you vulnerable. Instead, small steps allow for greater control. Boxers could retreat quickly or advance aggressively, depending on the situation, all while maintaining stability. Maintaining a Centered Posture Leaning too far forward or backward disrupts the kinetic chain of a punch or a kick. The old-school greats always stayed upright, distributing weight evenly, ready to unleash at a moment’s notice. 3. Generating Power Through Your Feet Footwork doesn’t just help you move; it amplifies your strike’s power. Think of a whip: the initial crack begins at the handle and travels through its length. Likewise, your strikes begin in your feet, with a push off the ground. This force spirals through your legs, twists your hips, and finishes in your fists or feet. Each link in this kinetic chain needs to be properly aligned and activated: Feet Push Off the Ground Press down and spring upward or sideways to generate momentum. Knees and Hips Rotate This rotation increases torque, vital for both punches and kicks. Core Tightens A strong, stable core transfers energy more efficiently from the lower to the upper body. Shoulders and Arms (or Legs) Release Finally, the force reaches your extremities, creating a clean, explosive strike. 4. Drills to Strengthen Your Footwork To move like an old-school boxer, you need to train your footwork meticulously. Here are a few drills: Shadowboxing with Emphasis on Footwork Move around as if an opponent were in front of you. Concentrate on balance and quick pivots, rather than just throwing punches. Agility Ladder Drills Practice stepping in and out of an agility ladder. Focus on quick, light steps and maintain a low center of gravity. Pivot and Step Drill Stand in your fighting stance. Pivot on your lead foot, turn your hips, and step through with the rear foot. Return to stance. Repeat, focusing on smooth transitions. Light Sparring Ask your partner to concentrate on foot movement, forcing you to adapt. Keep your steps precise and deliberate, never crossing your feet. 5. Applying Old-School Techniques to Modern Training Whether you’re training in boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, or even a traditional martial art, the foundation remains the same: energy originates from your feet. Modern fighters benefit from the lessons of old-school boxers by combining time-tested footwork with advanced strength and conditioning methods. Keep these principles in mind: Stay on the Balls of Your Feet Staying light on your toes makes you agile and able to shift weight quickly. Maintain a Bladed Stance (or Adapt to Your Sport) In boxing, a bladed stance maximizes reach and defensiveness when one shoulder is closer to the opponent.

tatsuki fujimoto paneling is amazing, the way he composes his work is fascinating and really showcases his love for movies. sometimes it makes me feel like im watching a movie rather than reading a manga.
#i may dare to say he's one of the best in paneling in the recent shounen world#tatsuki fujimoto#chainsaw man#csm#look back#goodbye eri#say whatever you want about his art. but the way he builds a story sometimes without dialogue is not something easy to do#im obsessed with his storytelling techniques#already said it but i really admire the way he puts something he loves so much in his own art#you can TELL he loves movies by reading chainsaw man. fire punch etc#the window pov is insane to me#in the look back movie you can actually tell how the director put some of the fujimoto paneling in there. which is so so amazing

Of course Dadan couldn't bear to see Ace leave. She can't bear to see Luffy leave either. Of course they both leave messages for her.
Of course Ace immediately gets Sabo's flag tattooed. Of course when Luffy leaves, the townsfolk wish him well, because he's Luffy, even offering their fishing boats. But all Luffy needs is Sabo (who was first to go out to sea) to watch over him.
Side note: if luffy wants 10 crewmates, then that means we are still 1 short right? 2 if not counting Luffy.

Thinking about how Inumaki could have easily ended JJK 0 earlier and possibly prevented Kenjaku from inhabiting Geto's body if Geto didn't have those cursed spirits.
LOOK AT THAT BIG ASS HOLE!! INUMAKI DID THAT!! There had been no way for Geto's body to be found as possibly deep that hole is had it not been for those cursed spirits! Let alone intact given how much weight that had to be!!

#inumaki came to murder geto that time#i honestly believe inumaki wanted him to feel immense pain during a possible death#reminds me how geto could have just punched that old guy once or twice but no went all out with those combos#they would have gotten along swimmingly under different circumstances!!#no but this is a visual of just insanely powerful inumaki's cursed technique is HOW THE FUCK IS HE NOT CLASSIFIED AS SPECIAL GRADE?!#oh wait i forgot how the jujutsu society feels about the inumaki clan#just kiya's thoughts#jjk#jujutsu kaisen#jjk 0#jujutsu kaisen 0#inumaki toge#toge inumaki#geto suguru#suguru geto

Do you think Peter learned how to breakdance when he got his powers just to add flare to his movement?
i think peter parker had been trying and failing to breakdance long before the spider-bite, and is just happy to discover he finally has the upper body strength to actually pull it off now
#sci speaks#i don't think peter ever learns the genuine technique for anything. he freestyles.#he's an academic nerd. he is bad at sport and always will be. even if he's physically athletic he just doesn't learn the technique.#he'll always be bad at it. he doesn't get the rules#same as breakdancing he just freestyles. he will never know how to dance. and he'll never be able to floss either. he just can't.#wade can.#i also think peter could never master martial arts or anything because of that. he just relies on instinct.#i know he learns martial arts in the comics shuuut up i know i know he does but it's only because he loses his spider-sense.#i don't think he'd devote the time to learning a sport or dance or martial art.#i think he just doesn't see the benefit. he wings it. all the time.#“like yeah okay i could devote all the time to learning that. but i could also just. punch it.”#he's so funny he's so funny.#i love my apathetic loser guy who has SUPER STRENGTH but is also too lazy for sport.#he could become an olympic athlete. but he just doesn't wanna.#he could become a world-famous breakdancer. but he doesn't wanna.#he does all of those things but with no discipline whatsoever.#no discipline. that is why wade kind of hates him.#he picks up new skills so effortlessly but he has nOOO DISCIPLINE. he doesn't care about technique or rules.#but he pulls it off anyway. wade is fuming.

"Good try, Genos. Let me tag in."
I've always loved how after seeing the Consecutive Normal Punches, Genos came up with the Machine Gun Blow a few hours later.
The guy really is learning from his Sensei.

AAAAAA, OKAY-- @persephone-s-moon I could not find their updated refs for the life of me, so, woe, busted old concept art be upon ye. (Excuse the wonky proportions, these were done on my phone.)
Shortest rundown I can manage:
Did someone order a tragic throuple with time-travel/reincarnation shenanigans and a side of hurt/comfort/fluff?
Candavata Bhatia: Elven queen, from the kingdom of Sona, and the baddest bitch to ever live. In order to prove herself worthy of holding the crown over her sisters, she needed to channel one of the gods. So, not only did she channel one, she called upon Bijalee, the embodiment of lightning and storms--and the most difficult one to channel due to her wild and hazardous nature. She has been the only person to do so, aside from the First Queen. This earned her the titles of Storm Bringer and Lightning Tamer. She and Qamar are married and have been best friends since childhood. Can you tell I love her?
(Side note: Editing this on my laptop and holy ashy tone, Batman. Hoping it's just my screen because my girl does NOT look like this, I promise--)
Qamar Abn awaa: Werejackal prince, devout cleric of Layl, goddess of the night and medicine, and the definition of the "I'm a healer, but--" meme. He managed to show both great power and promise from an early age when, during a political visit to the Sona royal court, he used his knowledge of anatomy to turn one of Candavata's would-be assassins inside out. This is where he and Candi's marriage was arranged. He is of a generally very sunny disposition, which often makes people underestimate him, as they assume he's useless in serious situations--but, when shit hits the fan, he's the one you want to be next to. (I started designing him when I did not understand how to map out locs or braids. Qamar, my prince, I am so sorry, I swear I will do right by you and fix whatever monstrosity I gave you.)
Vincenzo Virago: Vampire duke. The intersection of an emotionally constipated killing machine and massive nerd failure. He's head over heels for both Candi and Qamar, but he doesn't feel like he can tell them, due to the fact that he views himself as unlovable, both wanting and growing jealous of them. (He is completely oblivious to the fact that they are also in love with him.) He's terrified of turning into his father, but it seems like everything he does only turns him further down that path. He's a warlord. He's a wet cat. He needs therapy.
It's a stable, constant dynamic. You never see one without the other. Where Qamar goes, Candi is right beside him, and Vince is right behind them. Whenever something goes wrong, usually they're at the center of it, all having different roles in the trouble. Candi, the planner, Qamar, the keen lookout, and Vince, the instigator. He keeps the two of them grounded, on their toes, and they do what they can to keep him away from his father. Even after they graduate and take their places in their respective castes, they stay in touch.
The story itself begins at the worst part of their relationship.
At this point, Candavata and Qamar have been married and are tending to their responsibilities as king and queen of their joined empire. Though they try to stay in touch with Vincenzo, it's difficult--and Vince doesn't make it easy, either. Over the years, he becomes withdrawn. He stops answering their letters, he refuses to see them when they come in person, every time. After a while, they stop trying. Not because they don't love him, they do, but there's only so much you can do when a person doesn't want (or doesn't think they deserve) help.
Vincenzo, after years of sitting with the jealousy and battling his father's horrendous treatment, broke. He didn't just spiral, he nose-dived, doubling down on every bit of gossip and rumor, until he's changed and warped into something even he can't recognize. He shuts out Candi and Qamar. Maybe he doesn't want to taint them, maybe he thinks this is how it was meant to go, maybe he can't stand their gentle hands or the pitying look in their eyes. Maybe he just wants the excuse. Whatever it is, Vincenzo becomes a monster, with blood on his hands.
In the end, Candi and Qamar had to be the ones to put him down.
Which is where we get into the time/reincarnation fuckery.
Because, when the pain fades and Vincenzo opens his eyes, expecting to see whatever eternal damnation looks like, he sees his university bedroom. Littered with textbooks and letters from Candi and Qamar, and his graduation robes hanging on the back of the door.
He's got a second chance to go back and unfuck everything, but only time will tell if he'll succeed or end up exactly where he was before.
Something, something, breaking cycles and being open with your loved ones, allowing yourself to be loved by others and yourself, and sometimes men are at their best covered in blood and a little bit pathetic.
(Oh, and, you want a really fun fact? Vince isn't the only one who remembers the original timeline.)
#literally so nervous to share this--usually my concept art never sees the light of day beyond a discord server#but I promised polycule lore and polycule lore you shall have#*holds gently*#they're my favorite couple I've made next to Anna and Gabriel#whose story I could literally fill the library of Congress with#there's so much more I want to add but this post is already getting long#oh and in case you were wondering#Candi is the one with the brain cell most of the time#Qamar has it second and Vince... well he tries#also Qamar is transmasc and basically did most of his HRT on his own#like he created his own regiment with his own magic from scratch#same with his bottom surgery--in fact he actually published a thesis on his own technique to be shared with other doctors#which is a whole process I can get into on another post#he's like Dr. Jekyll in that he practices his experiments on himself and doesn't involve other people because he understands consequences#and wouldn't potentially do irreversible harm to other people for “the betterment of the science”#and would also punch Victor Frankenstein in the jaw#which I could also get into on another post#(he literally dropped out of college! he doesn't have a doctorate! he abandoned his creation due to his own fuck up regarding it!)#anyway#vampire#Werejackal

my friend and i were talking the other day and he brought up how his (autistic) coworker asked him if he thought he might be autistic. and my friend was like uhh i mean i have adhd but no i dont think i’m autistic. why. and the coworker explained that it was something about how “you just like to do things the old fashioned way…”
they were referring to how my friend eats crabs by punching them open with his bare fists instead of using tools
#it’s a family tradition. apparently#anyway yeah that’s a new one for ‘supposedly autistic traits that have nothing to do with autism whatsoever’#I thought tumblr would get a kick out of it maybe#i should note that I’m like 99.999% sure said friend is not autistic and i don’t think anyone who knows him would think so either#adhd though yes for sure. guy’s medicated and whatnot though.#i need to note that my whole family is from the Chesapeake area (DC Baltimore Southern Maryland etc) and not once have I ever been to a#crab feast where this was a technique used or mentioned or considered to open crabs#that side of his family is from I think South Carolina? rednecks for lack of a better term. so that’s some explanation#last time he went over there he came back with noticeable scratches on his knuckles. from punching crabs#kibumblabs

the funniest part about assassins is that they REALLY put an emphasis on Camus's eight packs (why does he have eight packs, idk it's so fdkjjfd) and they are Committed to the bit, like, you can see his abs through his shirt Committed to the Bit 😭
#the saints are ripped yeah whatever#but thank you for confirming that while aquarius techniques are more ranged focus. i do headcanon aquarius saints being very physical in#fights. like the amount of times camus punches the air when he sends out techniques. it's great#saint seiya episode g#idk if you can count this as spoilers since i'm mostly talking about his design?#aquarius camus#cant believe they pointed at him and went: greek statue

#like let these kids breathe#the fact that some of you seemed pressed about these fictional teenagers is beyond me#people bringing up shibuya as if sukuna wasn't going to murk that place regardless#oh y'all forgot he's the villain who has killed people before#some of you be calling megumi a bitch and saying he lacks potential with his technique as if he doesn't have room to grow#and not level 2#just a teenager who just became a sorcerer#yuji only seems to be cool when he's punching the shit out of people and even with that some you downplay just how capable he is#he dealt with the king of curses FOR MONTHS#it is canon he can actually sleep peacefully with the guy in his head#he was able read yuki's notes just fine HE'S NOT THAT DUMB#just kiya's thoughts#jjk#jujutsu kaisen#itadori yuji#yuji itadori#fushiguro megumi#megumi fushiguro

i wonder what this means

we know judgeman's appearance is similar to lady justice, who has a blindfold over her eyes, to represent impartial or blind justice. it's interesting that during sukuna's trial, and subsequent death penalty veredict, the stitches break on one side and that eye opens. something that didn't happen during the first death penalty delivered to yuuji despite both eyes opening up. we know everything higuruma is aware about his own ct, and ce in general, he grasped through reverse engeneering. his surprise about judgeman confiscating sukuna's cursed tool and not the cursed technique highlights that higuruma is only aware of his own technique due to things he was able to experience and deduce from the short time that has passed since he became a sorcerer. it's safe to say he had never persecuted someone who used a cursed tool before and therefore was unaware of this aspect of his technique (similar situations have happened before to characters like geto and even the way mahoraga works). this makes me wonder if judgeman's abilities are something we and higuruma have limited information on and there's something else going on, hinting at a possible outcome for higuruma/higuruma's character.

judgeman's eye opening is especially interesting because that is exactly the stance higuruma decided to take once he lost faith in the justice system. jujutsu kaisen and the concept of cursed energy and cursed techniques are very based in buddhist philosophy, or rather the power system is, and more specifically the concept of suffering. buddha recognised there was suffering in life and started guiding people into following a practice to get rid of that suffering, through the four noble truths the noble eightfold path. which ultimately would result in liberation from the samsara, cycle of rebirth and suffering. a lot of that lifestyle is learning how to properly process suffering in a way that's beneficial to the individual with the goal of achieving enlightment. in jjk suffering directly creates cursed energy and when that suffering sort of accumulates it originates cursed spirits. jujutsu sorcerers are basically people able to process their own suffering and their own ce to fight and exorcise the suffering that's constantly emerging from humanity (tying deeply with the core theme of jjk and a big plot point - the merging). you could even draw parallels between ways individuals cope with their own pain and their cursed techniques, which is very obvious in characters like geto (ingesting curses through cursed spirit manipulation akin to bottling up his own feelings and letting that suffering eat him from the inside out), for example. where am i going with this? i'm not sure (sorry if you read all of this expecting a really cool theory) but what if this is sort of an awakening moment for higuruma? a moment where his technique will finally align with his beliefs? i just don't believe the differences in judgeman throughout the story are a coincidence. not when judgeman also has this form, with both its eyes completely shut.

#or maybe i'm coping trying to find a way for higuruma not to die 😂#but!!! i want to believe new age sorcerers are /different/ especially because they work together#i also have faith on ino's cursed technique? i mean we barely know anything about his auspicious beast summon - ryu#we also have yuuji there and his ability to swap souls the training he did with choso and kamo hinting at blood manipulation and we also#saw his arm in that one panel that we didn't get any information on yet and his punch against sukuna#that could or not be divergent fist able ti touch the soul?!#and yuuji IS sukuna's opponent so yuuji will cook eventually#i digress but i want to believe there's hope here so i will cope this way with the new chapter#watch higuruma slay like one or two chapters from now 💅😌#if he kicks the bucket pretend i never made this post please ahsjsh#or alternatively what if the stitches are like a haruta-esque situation with the markings?#food for thought#jjk leaks#higuruma hiromi#jujutsu kaisen#jjk 💭
