I’m labelling this as finished even though it isn’t, it’s one of those projects that will never really be ‘finished’ as it’s going to continue to grow and evolve over time. But I’m marking it as finished because it’s wearable, see those mushroom panels on the sides? I slashed the sides of the vest open and sewed them in to make it larger. I’ve had this vest for over a decade and it was a perfect fit back then and, well, since then I’ve not only gained weight, but I’ve also started testosterone which has resulted in weight redistribution and moved some of the fat from my face and hips to my stomach, so it needed adjusting to be comfortable to wear.
I’ve also sewn on a bunch of patches, technically since I took these photos I’ve added another patch and painted a huge trans flag on the back of it. I really do love my vest and now that it’s getting cold I wear it over my black and red pokemon jacket for an extra layer of warmth.

Some punk DIY tips from a punk
Tumblr media
They also can work with not punk things, i just use these tips for punk diys
Sewing/Patches
No thread? Use dental floss
Literally make your own patches, just cut up some denim or canvas material and get some paint
Look up refs for what ur gonna paint on the patches if you want it to be more accurate
Use old and ripped pants to cut material for patches to recycle them- it's just better
U can get most of this stuff from your local craft store, if there's a lil family business ALWAYS support that business over craft store corporations like Joann's or Michael's
Spikes/Studs
THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SPIKES AND STUDS
Pls Google them
Most of them either have screw-thingies on the back or prongs, so it's easy to make crafts with
You can make those lil spiked wrist straps with them too, I'll get into it if I do another part to this
Pins
There are two ways that I make pins(if u have any other ways lmk)
One is the hot glue pin
You take a piece of paper, some hot glue and a hit glue gun and a safety pin and some clear tape that's wide
U can also use a lighter to smooth it out
The other one is metal bottle cap pins
You need a metal bottle cap, a soda tab, a safety pin, and some paint- or printed paper and something to seal it (like mod podge or smth)
U also need pliers
I can go into how to do stuff and some other stuff i missed if yall want me too
Have a good day/night!!

Another embroidered patch I had a lot of fun with! I hadn't drawn a dog I was happy with before making this patch, but by jove after I was done sketching I could draw a doberman at a three-quarters angle. I got to sew it to my girlfriend's jacket too :)

From the same commission in December as the lobster, the client requested Hobie Brown aka Spider-Punk from Across the Spider-Verse. He has so many details that I spend hours working on, plus a hand painted (by my partner) 3D printed guitar.

Cyber goth dress + my favourite way to make patches
I thrifted this dress a couple of weeks ago for £1. I believe it started life as some sort of costume, possibly a sexy firefighter, but the fabric is really good quality cotton, and I thought it had some cybergoth potential with the yellow and reflective bits. I also really like the metal fastenings.
Tumblr media
I already had a high-viz coat in my wardrobe from when I used to go bicycling more often, so I was able to steal more reflective bits from that. Not yet sure what I'll do with them, probably cut interesting shapes and glue or sew them on. Photos with and without flash.
Tumblr media
And then yesterday I got a half meter of cotton fabric for £1 which is an almost exact colour match, so I can make some stencilled patches.
I already had fabric paint at home, so this entire outfit has only cost me £2! Cybergoth clothing is usually super expensive.
Tumblr media
There are lots of tutorials for making stencilled patches on YouTube, (@rattusrattus3 has some excellent ones) but I lack patience and don't like cutting out intricate pieces, especially for lettering, so I had the idea to use alphabet stickers. You can pick these up really cheap from your local pound shop or dollar store depending on where you're from. I think mine were 40p a packet.
Tumblr media
Stick them to your fabric, use fabric paint and a sponge, then when you peel the stickers off you'll have the words in relief. You can go thicker than I have here to make the surrounding area totally opaque, but I like the edges being messy and faded out. These are both song titles from cyber/industrial bands that I like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some other examples that I've done in the past. These were all done with pound shop spray paint which isn't ideal for fabric, but it's cheap! You'll also get more of the original fabric colour showing through with this kind of paint, which is nice.
If you're using black fabric, gold or silver paint will generally work better than white. These are all Devin Townsend song lyrics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only negative to this method for some people may be that the letters will be very uniform, but I like that. And if you want to you can space them irregularly to break things up a bit. Or you might be able to find more interestingly shaped alphabet stickers than I did!
