Okay, after disabling a couple modules we aren't using we seem to be good to load up to ~100 kB files in one go through the web interface
Im using a directory listing compiled using Pythons built in http server which I run and wget off the build machine before putting it on the micro sd to give a simple interface for browsing without too much screwing around.
Note: the text is split into 5kB pieces in the image which is no longer necessary

update 𐙚˙
hello everyone! my summer break has started recently and i thought there was never a better time to finally post again on here. sorry for the drought lol but i ended up getting quite busy and barely opened this acc!! lots of things and changes have occurred so i'll list them down
☆ i started and finished my first year of my bachelors degree! the modules were all interesting and i enjoyed them, my classmates were all pleasant and so far i'm really excited to be starting my second!
☆ i turned 18 on june, which still hasn't set in lol... i know it isn't as serious of an age but oh well
☆ i got the highest grades in all of my assignments and classes! quite proud of myself for this one
☆ managed to get a hang of python, sql, html, css, and the basics of javascript and php!
☆ i created my very first website :) it was part of our assignment and we had to create one for an online supermarket. maybe i'll make a separate post for it
☆ i reached this year's reading goal! 40 books, i set it quite low because i haven't been reading as much but since there's still some time left before the year ends, i'll probably try to hit 50
☆ not as major of an update but something i've found myself drawn to lately is the way of tea and it's connection to mindfulness, also just trying to cultivate mindfulness in my daily routine. might make some posts about it later
this is all i can remember for now! i hope you all are doing well, and that life is treating you kindly. will be seeing you next time... preferably sooner than after a few months but lets see

Studying code calmly and avoiding a burnout. Day 1
If you saw a list of tasks that I said I would do until 23:59 on Sunday, you realized that was a lot for 3 days.
And guess what, he almost had a burnout of his own doing? Myself IEEJIJEIJIE
Yesterday, learning with my elders and colleagues, I understood that I wanted to do a lot of things and almost had my third burnout just to show the recruiter what I can do if I pass the process I want.
BUT it won't do me any good to have a github full of repositories, if I have a burnout and I don't want to touch the code and it gets worse if I'm in a work process because then I'm going to miss a hell of a chance because in the past I've done more than that I could.
SO today Monday I set myself small goals.
[ ] Finish the 1 module Javascript course
[ ] Take the Introduction to computer science with python (1 and 2)
[ ] Object orientation with python
[ ] Project 1 final with Html, css and bootstrap + a bootstrap course individual
I changed plans and that lightened the load. Now I think I can handle it and not freak out.
I will try to make daily updates. I want to be proud of myself in the future when I look at all this bullshit bounout, frustration, etc. And I also share it here for the sake of ego/vanity and wanting to be heard/seen. Which is fine, as long as it's not hurting anyone.
(I don't need any advice comments about ego and vanity. I already have someone to teach me about and I deal very well with my shadows, thank you.)
I wish you a great week, drink water, sunbathe if possible and don't give up.
#womanintech#codeblr#software development#woman in stem#studyblog#studyblr#coding#software engineering#code#algorithms#Take care and make the least effort if necessary.#Programmers avoid burnouts if possible.#Stay safe.

how to download (and mirror and transcribe) youtube videos
so the news that google is deleting inactive youtube channels was a miscommunication -- "Additionally, we do not have plans to delete accounts with YouTube videos at this time" (source, emphasis mine). but i hope this was a wake up call that archiving videos (and other content) you care about is really important. buy hard drives, save, reshare. videos dont stay up forever. youtube isnt forever.
i know how difficult it is to get into downloading videos, with how all youtube to mp4 websites seem to be broken. this post compiles general guides on how to manually download youtube videos (among other actions) through python programs. it's simple if you just follow the steps and constantly search the errors you encounter. i will also detail how i personally do it with my windows 10 pc, in case you use the same tools.
remember: your search engine, reddit, github, and help commands are your best friends.
* downloading youtube videos
reddit yt-dlp guide
original yt-dlp guide
how to download the best quality mp4
how to download videos from a search result
how to use command prompt
what is command prompt? this is a windows application where you navigate folders and run programs. you just type a command and hit enter. ctrl+c ends a command/program, ctrl+s pauses it (pressing any key unpauses)
how do i navigate folders? the basic commands are so: a) cd "[path]" to change directory (always put path and link names in double quotes so they are processed properly), b) cd .\.. takes you to the previous folder (ex: if you're in C:\folder A\folder B and run cd .\.. you go to C:\folder A), c) you can go to other drives by typing the letter and colon (ex: if you are in C:, typing D: then entering takes you to your D drive). this is important because where your python programs are stored is where you have to run them.
how to run python programs through cmd prompt? a) download the latest version of python. b) use pip to install programs. c) make sure you have also downloaded a program's dependencies (analogous to "pre-requisites"). d) type the program name then the command.
make sure to always update python and pip.
how to use yt-dlp to download youtube videos
how to get download yt-dlp? this guide worked perfectly for me. make sure to download all python programs in the same folder.
navigate to the folder you installed yt-dlp
the following are examples of commands you can use:
yt-dlp -h -- get a list of all commands
yt-dlp "[link]" -- download video as is (often in webm format)
yt-dlp "[link]" -f "bestvideo[ext=mp4]+bestaudio[ext=m4a]/best[ext=mp4]/best" -- download the highest quality mp4 video (highest possible in mp4 is 1080p)
yt-dlp -x --audio-format mp3 "[link]" -- download audio only as mp3
yt-dlp -i "[playlist link]" -- download a full playlist (you may also use the best quality command here)
yt-dlp -i "[playlist link]" --playlist-items [range] -- download range of playlist items
look at the guides at the top of this section for my ideas of what you can do with yt-dlp. you can even use yt-dlp to download from other websites
note: if you want to download instagram reels, you must include: --cookies-from-browser [firefox / chrome / etc] -- choose your browser
** mirroring youtube videos to archive.org
github tubeup guide: "tubeup uses yt-dlp to download a Youtube video (or any other provider supported by yt-dlp), and then uploads it with all metadata to the Internet Archive using the python module internetarchive."
this guide shows you how to install and use the program. this is an easy way to archive videos with the proper metadata -- do not archive videos en masse
the mirrortube archive.org community
*** transcribing videos
transcribing youtube videos w/o downloading: application
transcribing any downloaded video: openai guide
extra1: searching videos
ive seen confusion on how to naviagte youtube search these days. i know!!!! here are some tips:
changing search options to search by upload date shows *ACTUAL* results, rather than suggestions.
the same google tricks work on youtube: google tricks guide
using yt-dlp to search can be helpful to search youtube more precisely
extra2: downloading twitter videos online
i use this regularly, so i thought id also share.

Infrastructure for Disaster Control, a.k.a. Automatic Builds
We all know the feeling of pure and utter stress when, ten minutes before the deadline, you finally click the Build And Export in your game engine and then it fails to build for some reason.
To prevent issues like this, people invented automated builds, also sometimes referred to as CI/CD.
This is a mechanism that tests the project every single time a change is made (a git commit is pushed, or a Perforce changelist is submitted). Because of this, we very quickly know whenever a change broke the build, which means we can fix it immediately, instead of having to fix it at the end.
It is also useful whenever a regression happens that doesn't break the build. We can go back to a previous build, and see if the issue is there or not. By checking a few builds by way of binary search, we can very quickly pinpoint the exact change that caused the regression. We have used this a few times, in fact. Once, the weaving machines stopped showing up in the build, and with this method, we were able to pinpoint the exact change that caused it, and then we submitted a fix!
It's very useful to have an archive of builds for every change we made to the project.
There are multiple different softwares that do this kind of thing, but Jenkins is by and far the most used. Both by indies, but also large AAA studios! So knowing how it works is very useful, so that's why I picked Jenkins for the job. Again, like with Perforce, it was pretty easy to install!
Here is a list of every build run that Jenkins did, including a neat little graph :)
Configuring it was quite tricky, though. I had to create a console terminal CLI command that makes Unreal Engine build project. Resources used: (one) (two)
It took many days of constant iteration, but in the end, I got it to work very well!
I also wrote some explanations of what Jenkins is and how to use it on the Jenkins pages themselves, for my teammates to read:
Dashboard (The Home Page):
Project Page:
Now, it is of course very useful to build the project and catch errors when they happen, but if no-one looks on the Jenkins page, then no-one will see the status! Even if the website is accessible to everyone, people won't really look there very often. Which kind of makes the whole thing useless… So to solve that issue, I implemented Discord pings! There is a Jenkins plugin that automatically sends messages to a specific Discord channel once the build is done. This lets everyone know when the build succeeded or failed.
We of course already had a discord server that we used to discuss everything in, and to hold out online meetings with. So this #build-status channel fit in perfectly, and it was super helpful in catching and solving issues.
Whenever a build failed, people could click on the link, and see the console output that Unreal Engine gave during the build, so we could instantly see where the issue was coming from. And because it rebuilds for every change that is made, we know for certain that the issue can only have come from the change that was just made! This meant that keeping every change small, made it easier to find and fix problems!
Whenever a build succeeds, it gets stored on the server, in the build archive.
But storing it on the server alone is nice and all, but people can't really do anything with them there. I could personally access them by remotely connecting to the server, but I cannot make my teammates go through all that. So I needed to make them more accessible for the whole team, to download whenever they please.
For this, I wanted to create a small website, from which they can download them. Just by going to the link, they could scroll through every build and download it immediately.
I already knew of multiple ways of easily doing this, so I tried out a few.
The Python programming language actually ships with a built-in webserver module that can be used very easily with a single command. But Python wasn't installed, and installing Python on Windows is kind of annoying, so I wanted something else. Something simpler.
I often use the program "darkhttpd" whenever I want a simple webserver, so I tried to download that, but I couldn't get it to work on Windows. Seems like it only really supports Linux…
So I went looking for other, single-executable, webserver programs that do support Windows.
And so I stumbled on "caddy". I'd actually heard of it before, but never used it, as I never had a need for it before then. For actual full websites, I've always used nginx. After some time of looking at the official documentation of caddy's various configuration file formats and command-line arguments, and tweaking things, I had it working like I wanted! It now even automatically starts when the computer boots up, which is something that Perforce and Jenkins set up automatically. Resources used: (one) (two) (three) (four)
And I think that's it! Unfortunately, none of this will roll over to the next team that has to work on this project, because none of this is code that is inside our project folder.
Here’s a summary of the setup, drawn as a network map:
Future
There is a concept called IAC, Infrastructure As Code, which I would like to look into, in the future. It seems very useful for these kinds of situations where other people have to be able to take over, and reproduce the setups.

i did it almost entirely in python:
using the requests module i downloaded the entirety of this page and saved it to a text file.
I then opened that text file and using BeautifulSoup4 i removed a bunch of things, specifically the dates, any buttons ("open pesterlog") along with all the alt text and transcript sections(necessary to get under the text limit). then did some cleaning, and wrote just the text without any of the html to a file, where i did some manual cleaning. I put it all onto one line, and removed any double spaces and such.
i used another python script to change that long ass string of text into a list of words. I made a temporary list of words and kept adding words to it until the characters exceeded 4096. at that point it removes and temporarily stores the last word, dumps the temporary list into a "text blocks" list, clears the temp list and adds the stored word to the beginning of it.
at the end it gives me a shit ton of lists lists of words, inside a larger list. i converted the inner lists to strings, so it left me with a list of 943 strings that were slightly less than 4096 characters. just so i dont have to cut it in the middle of a word
Finally i just joined all the lists together with "\n\n" in between so tumblr knows to seperate it into seperate text blocks, and so then i just. copied and pasted it in. i'm really suprised the clipboard can hold that much text

now if I could just figure out how to download the web searching python module onto my laptop I could make a program scour through all the tags I know they’d use and return a list of blogs in the middle of that ven diagram, easy as pie, but of course I’m familiar enough with downloading python modules on pip to work that out. Everything is so difficult and yet I preserve, manually noting down any blog names that look reasonably familiar in nature, then repeating the process till i narrow it down. I have theories about using web modules to scan though reoccurring number emails such as those for organisations where members are only identified by a series of numbers before an email, then entering every single email with the password ‘password’ to see how many people use it. Because I’m sure it’d work a non zero amount of times but unfortunately that’s a breach of data privacy laws so I won’t be doing it
Those darned ethics policies and data privacy laws back at it again won’t let you have any fun .

What does joining piermesh look like? Ordering a piece of hardware with all the software needed on it, or getting some sort of kit/list of components with instructions and a link to software downloads or something?
Youd need to order a TLora V2.1-1.6 (this is necessary for certain custom firmware features) or another Meshtastic compatible board
Youd then need to flash the board with some version of Meshtastics firmware, some places preload Meshtastic but even if they do you should be up to date. This is usually just done with a USB C or Micro cable.
There's a few choices of setups from there but if you have a computer or phone you should be able to download the Meshtastic app or use the web client and you'll be good to go, just download the PierMesh code you need and run it, if you want a serial connection that will require Python.
There is a web interface that PierMesh provides for you to use the service, right now that includes peer to peer messaging, web browsing and proxying
Thats all, though I'm going to provide far more detailed instructions soon

Introduction to Python
Python is a widely used general-purpose, high level programming language. It was initially designed by Guido van Rossum in 1991 and developed by Python Software Foundation. It was mainly developed for emphasis on code readability, and its syntax (set of rules that govern the structure of a code) allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code.
Python is a programming language that lets you work quickly and integrate systems more efficiently.
data types: Int(integer), float(decimal), Boolean(True or False), string, and list; variables, expressions, statements, precedence of operators, comments; modules, functions-- - function and its use, flow of execution, parameters and arguments.
Programming in python
To start programming in Python, you will need an interpreter. An interpreter is basically a software that reads, translates and executes the code line by line instead of combining the entire code into machine code as a compiler does.
Popular interpreters in python
Cpython
Jython
PyPy
IronPython
MicroPython
IDEs
Many other programmers also use IDEs(Integrated Development Environment) which are softwares that provide an extensive set of tools and features to support software development.
Examples of IDEs
Pycharm
Visual studio code (VS code)
Eclipse
Xcode
Android studio
Net beans

Make Your Own C64 Dungeons!

I recently came across a fun YouTube video about programming in basic/python using an 80s guidebook (thanks YouTube algorithm).
P.S. the Commodore 64 had a radical advertising campaign!
Peak '80s Fantasy
The book they were using was published by Usborne Books in the early '80s and is part of a series which are available as free PDF downloads on their website. I was immediately enthralled by:
Write Your Own Fantasy Games For Your Microcomputer: "Dungeon of Doom"
This hit me so hard with the '80s TSR/Games Workshop vibes I almost passed out.
As I dug into the ~50 page book I was not disappointed. It's full of fun art, wonderful layout spreads, and very useful guidance.
The book starts off talking about what a TTRPG is and outlines the tenants of your standard fantasy D&D-style game.
However it also points out that different genres besides fantasy can be played in, which I appreciated.
The way it all works is here; the dungeon levels, the classes, the monsters, the treasure!

Okay, So I Can't USE It Per Se...
Now, I don't have an coding experience, so using this book for its intended purpose would be tough for me. I majored in English after all, this kind of stuff confuses the heck outta me.
That said, these books are for beginners so with a little work and a C64 emulator I'm sure I could figure it out. Maybe I will someday, but I think it has a lot of value in another way.
Teaching The Flow
As someone who has written a few games, and read a few more, I've become really familiar with good instructions and how they are useful anywhere.
In it's explanation of the flow of player input and computer response it lays out the exact kind of procedures we in the OSR are always harping on about.
It's got me thinking that flow charts are something I should just use in my game design. Bulleted lists are all well and good, but curved arrows! That's the stuff.
I think most kinds of modules would benefit from this kind of spread too, especially anything with a strong narrative arc.
I will point out that a couple WoTC 5e modules do think to use this method, but commit to it so poorly that the sparse chart is nearly useless (I'm looking at you Descent into Avernus).
Well That's Basically It
I don't have too much more on this subject other than "Look at this book!" and "Wow, everyone should incorporate the lessons here in their writing!"
Maybe I can convince one of my friends who actually knows programming to help me and we can create our own Dungeon of Doom computer game?
It can't be that hard to make a video game right...
