5: My favourite ship of them

Isadora/Violet as that’s what I’ve read the most fics+seen the most artwork of regarding Isadora in a romantic relationship however I like the concept of Isadora/Fiona too but would need a lil more convincing.🖤💜✒️🔧

Duncan/Klaus: it’s wholesome+they are compatible. I like the thought of them nerding out together. Also researcher/journalist? Even their interests fit! Not to mention that they would both be impossibly awkward whilst trying to flirt before getting together. :)💚💙📝📰📘

Quigley/Violet: idk man it’s just a lovely ship. (Very lovely indeed.)🫢🫢🫢🫢🫢🫨🫨🫨😌😌😌💜💜

Fr tho I think it’s something to do with those 2 characters who have had to be fiercely independent for so long learning to rely on each other. I also feel like their romantic dynamic is the most chaotic+interesting out of all of them too, like it’d by no means be a smooth relationship but it’d be a worthy one. They’d be good for each other.

Isadora/Klaus: Nah, they’re Friends. +it’s a great friendship too, I’d say their friendship is worth more than their romance would be.

Duncan/Carmelita: No. She bullied him the ENTIRE time. They have 0 chemistry. They have very little in common, i.e, nothing to bond over. Unless you imagine them getting nostalgic over how Carmelita bullied him for being an orphan which just…no…that’s about the furthest from romance there is.

Quigley/Carmelita: I’d hope Quigley would have better taste. Although, it would be hilarious if after reuniting with his siblings then they’re about to tell him all about their awful time at Prufrock when Quigley is like “Wait! First let me introduce you to my girlfriend!” Then the gf is Carmelita 😬😬😬

Isadora+Klaus: they bond over books of literary analysis+pull faces at each other in class :)

Duncan+Sunny who he was willing to protect via kicking a fake version of her round in a circle. His heart was there even if his brain wasn’t.

Quigley+Violet. It was a tough choice between Vi and Quigley’s notebook which kept him from being lonely on his travels 😀

So this is really random, and no one asked for this, but have my nationality headcanons for a whole load of asoue/atwq characters.?? No real explanation for these hcs, it's just how I imagine the characters ! :) (might throw in some extra hcs along the way because why not.)

P.S I'm quite fascinated by the history of the colonisation of America and the patterns of immigration that occurred thereafter, which is partially why I'm making this post. However, I'm not American and have never received actual American education so I'm sorry if I am miseducated in any regard.

Esmé Squalor is British/Syrian

HC: she is a first generation immigrant to the USA when the events of the books take place. Her mother was Syrian and her father British. She has a twin brother who disagreed with her involvement in VFD and left the USA to go back to England once they were of age. She hasn't seen him since they were teenagers.

Jerome Squalor is British-American

HC: His parents immigrated to the USA from England before he was born.

Bertrand Baudelaire is French

HC: He is a first-generation immigrant and went to the USA on his own after the death of his parents.

Beatrice Baudelaire is American

HC: By the time she was born, her family had been in the USA for many generations. Some British and Irish ancestry.

The Snicket siblings are Chinese-American

HC: the Snicket siblings are second-generation immigrants to the USA. Both of their parents were Chinese.

HC: Monty is a second-gen immigrant. He had three siblings who all moved across the USA once of age, but he made an effort to keep in touch with them and their extended family in Pakistan.

Ellington Feint is Chinese-American

HC: Ellington is a second-gen immigrant. Her father was American with British ancestry and her mother was a first-gen Chinese immigrant.

Captain (headcanoned first name Rory) Widdershins is Irish-American

HC: a third-gen immigrant who grew up very disconnected from his heritage due to being in the foster system.

Fernald "Widdershins" is Moroccan/American

HC: him and his sister Fiona (and theorised sister Friday) had an American mother and Moroccan father. Their father left before they were born and mother left when Fiona was young, so they were raised by Widdershins. They know very little about their heritage.

Moxie Mallahan is American

HC: her family had been in the USA for many generations before her birth. Distant British and Dutch ancestry.

Arthur Poe is American

HC: Poe and his wife both had generations of family in the USA. He has some Dutch ancestry.

Josephine Anwhistle is American

HC: her family had also been in the USA for many generations. She had distant Irish ancestry. She made effort to reconnect with her ancestry in some regards.

Ike Anwhistle is American

HC: Ike, too, had family for generations in the USA. Canonically in the books, he is the second cousin of one of the Baudelaire parents (I hc him on Bea's side of the family) so in my headcanon, his ancestry is British/Irish. His brother, Gregor, is obviously the same.

The Denouement triplets are American

HC: the triplets are third-generation immigrants with British and Dutch ancestry. Mother's side British and father's side Dutch. There had been plans to raise the triplets in England, but a mysterious friend of their mother convinced them to stay in the USA for reasons unknown...

Unfortunate Gen

The Baudelaire children are French-American

HC: Bea is American and Bertrand French, as stated above. They grew up speaking both languages fluently.

The Quagmire triplets are Italian-American

HC: their mother is Italian and their father American. Their mother and her parents made sure they grew up speaking Italian.

Fiona Widdershins is American/Moroccan

HC: As stated with Fernald above, her biological father was Moroccan, although her and Fernald never knew him nor that they were Moroccan.

Carmelita Spats is Dutch-American

HC: Carmelita is a fourth-generation immigrant and she has little connection to her ancestry due to not being in contact with her family anymore.

Beatrice Baudelaire II is Chinese-American

HC: as Kit is her mother, she has her ancestry, of course. I am personally a fan of the theory that Olaf is her father, not Dewey, so in this post, we'll say that his ancestry plays here too...

The Henchperson of Indeterminable Gender - … this is self-explanatory, i fear

Isadora Quagmire (MTF) - also somewhat self-explanatory, but if you haven’t heard of this headcanon/theory I’ll explain: in the books the Quagmires are mentioned to be identical triplets. It’s impossible for triplets to be identical if one of them is the opposite sex of the other two (at least, i believe so? Im recounting this off the top of my head so cut me some slack). Thus, Isadora is likely a trans girl. It doesn’t make much sense if you watch the show because Isadora barely looks like her brothers, but in the official book artwork she just looks like her brothers with longer hair.

Quigley Quagmire (demiboy): This actually stems off of another headcanon I have for Quigley: bro is autistic (several studies show that autism and gender discomfort can be linked together). I think they struggle with their gender for at least a couple years. They only tell their siblings at first, unsure of what is happening to them and wondering if something is wrong. Isadora shows him a few resources involving gender and gender dysphoria and tells him that its okay to feel like this, acting as a guiding hand throughout his journey because she already transitioned. Duncan is a little confused, but he’s got the spirit!

Quigley begins by presenting a bit more femininely, stealing his sister’s clothes and his mother’s makeup and meshing it with his own stuff. The clothes throw them off a bit, but they find makeup to be really fun with Isadora’s help! He asks his siblings and the Baudelaires (because thEY ARE FAMILY TO HIM GOSH DARN IT) to refer to him with they/them pronouns for a bit.

It takes them a long time to settle into a way of presenting themself that feels right. But when they find it? He has never been happier! Probably into his late teens or early adulthood he officially identifies as a demiboy and uses he/they pronouns. And his family couldnt be prouder!

Sunny Baudelaire (any pronouns) - Sunny is young but I can already tell girl was made to rage against the label and binary machine. People can’t assume your gender if you’re off the spectrum entirely!

Hello anon! I have headcanons for the Quagmires triplets, book-verse and Netflix show, being different continuities.

As I am in a Netflix ASOUE mood today, the headcanons about the Quagmires triplets headcanons are for the Netflix show. It's rather long, so it's going to go underneath the cut after Duncan's headcanons.

Duncan Quagmire

Alongside wanting to be a journalist, Duncan has a habit of writing down interesting history facts in his commonplace notebook.

Has terrible handwriting. Worse, Duncan sometimes eats when writing, so there’s food stains on a few pages that smudges his already messy handwriting.

As there is evidence of a low-key romance between Violet and Duncan in the books (very low-key), Duncan has a crush on Violet, thinking he’s subtle with it (he’s not).

Gets close to Hector during post-TVV. Duncan isn’t sure why, but he thinks it may be due to both of them being close on the verge of crying when they feel like it.

Even though he’s the oldest, Duncan is the timidest of his siblings, and would prefer to avoid any means of confrontation. Duncan stopping Carmelita bullying the Baudelaires was him taking assertive action for the first time.

While not really a night owl, Duncan can survive the day with only five hours of sleep without getting (too) cranky and snapping at someone.

Always likes to keep his hair short as well as neat. Duncan doesn’t mind long hair (he even grew it out once to match Quigley for an April Fools prank), but he personally thinks the long hair image is not for him, for he is neat and organized.

Would never think about using physical force in any way or form, even if the person probably deserves it; Duncan is a true pacifist.

Is not a swearer, because he doesn’t know many swears words/too polite.

Duncan has perfect vision (or at least better than Isadora’s vison). As such, he’s the first to spot Quigley at the ruins of Anwhistle Aquatic.

Isadora Quagmire

Alongside her interest in poetry, she has a love of cursive. Isadora can also copy other people handwriting. She can’t copy Duncan’s handwriting though.

Due to having long hair, Isadora likes to experiment with different hairstyles, usually with her mother’s help. The main style she likes the most is her default down look.

Isadora doesn’t like to use physical force, so more often than not Isadora will try insulting a person to their face. That said, Isadora almost throws a punch at Carmelita when the girl tried to bully Duncan and got him close to crying, but stop due to Duncan’s insisting

Is bi, like her namesake (Isadora Duncan). Isadora has crush on Klaus. For a while, she had a crush on Carmelita until the ‘bullying Duncan’ incident made Isadora do a 180.

Isadora’s favorite meal of the day is breakfast. Her favorite type of breakfast food is pancakes (with fruit), so she’s always extra happy when it’s being served.

Definitely know some swear words. Isadora learns them all through tutors and visitors to the household who believed were swearing in private, when the reality is Isadora was eavesdropping on them.

While having a great relationship with her brothers, Isadora wishes that she has a sister she can talk to. There are things Duncan and Quigley will never understand completely.

Isadora likes to doodles random things in her commonplace notebook. As she is not the greatest artist, Isadora’s doodles sometimes look similar to cursive handwriting.

Isadora has a fear of heights, so her climbing up the Self-Sustaining Hot Air Mobile Home was super scary. Living in it is such, a challenge for her, but she managed.

Quigley Quagmire

Alongside his interest in cartography, Quigley has a minor interest in photography. He really likes to take photos of the night sky, especially if the moon is full.

Is a prankster, but only if he’s in the mood to cause trouble. He roped Duncan in the past for April Fools due to being identical to one another and has no regrets.

Despite being the youngest, Quigley is mistaken for the oldest because he’s much more assertive than Duncan, which creates the ‘oldest triplet’ impression.

Messy Eater™. At times, Quigley will eat with the wrong utensil or eat by hand if there are no utensil around for him to use.

Always has the wish to grow out his hair. It’s not like Quigley hates his short and neat hair, he just wants a look that reflects him being a messy and disorganized person. As such, Quigley post-Quagmire fire didn’t bother to cut his hair to live out his dream.

Is not only a light sleeper, but Quigley also has difficult falling to sleep. If he’s disturbed by any noise, it’s hard for him to go back to sleep with ease.

Quigley once tried taking accordion lessons, but dropped it because it was much more difficult than he imagined. Reading about Snicket made Quigley wish he continued it.

Honestly did not except himself to get a crush on Violet after knowing her for a few hours, but Quigley has no regrets with their implied first kiss.

Hates himself for looking inside the Sugar Bowl. He wished he never look inside it.

Quigley only knew Hector for a few minutes, but he 100% trusts the handyman.

for order of birth they’d definitely be boy, girl, boy, because they’d mirror the Baudelaires, and a lot of the siblings surrounding vfd tend to mirror one another’s (there’s also almost always 3)

but in specifics it would be Quigley, Isadora, Duncan.

Quigley would be the more sporty one out of all of them, he just gives that vibe yk?. Since he’s a cartographer, I feel like he’d like geography and ancient world history, like how the world was like before, earlier maps, Pangea, etc. His aesthetic, if I had to choose one, would be light academia mixed with casual chill.

Isadora would definitely play lots of instruments, while I feel they all know how to play the piano, and/or a violin family instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass)—though Isa and Duncan might want to stay away from them after TAA—Isadora would know how to play the most instruments out of all of them (if u ever make a band au just know im here) Her aesthetic would be dark academia mixed with coquette

Duncan would definitely be on the debate team or the school council and he’d be in charge of the school newspaper or the morning announcements. He’d be really good at math but would prefer English either way. He definitely cried at titanic. His aesthetic would be writer’s aesthetic (yes ik that sounds unoriginal but nothing else fit my idea according to google/pinterest so) mixed with early 20th century paper boy.

General hcs

I don’t think they actually died when they got attacked by the eagles, because lemony is kinda an unreliable narrator, he could’ve just not researched it too much because he was busy with the Baudelaires lives. I think that they would’ve fallen into the ocean a little after finding quigley, and would’ve ended up on briny beach like the Baudelaires ended up on the island. Thoug of course, with more damage because they fell out of the sky into the ocean, because somewhere in the “an incomplete history of secret organizations” official book based off the netflix series, it states something along the lines of “two sets of friends (something, something) will meet again on briny beach”

they’d be those kids at school that you wouldn’t know were siblings until you see them together and realize how similar they look or notice they’re the only ones in school with their last name.

you can kinda guess what I think they’re favorite colors are here, but I feel like Quigleys is yellow they just don’t have it here.

I think Esme would wear this really odd outfit managing to squeeze in every flag ever, and then she'd say "why, but I'm an ally <3" without specifically saying what she herself labels as.

Violet would wear her pride flag, the shirt being one color, belt another and skirt the third color (I hc her as bi so she'd have a pink shirt, purple belt and blue skirt)

Klaus I think would have a rainbow bowtie haha

I love asks! That said, not really! I'm not big into the Quagmires. I honestly only remember the Quagmires even exist because of how much the fandom likes them. Like, I think the fact that I've never cared about the Quagmires should have been a tip off to me that I was aromantic and aplatonic because they very much were only written to serve as the Baudelaires' friends and love interests, and I don't care about those two things! I think that's a lot of why I'm still obsessed with this series, honestly. It's a lot of weird relationships that can't really be labeled, and also family, and I am weirdly not afamilial. I do have a soft spot for Quigley because God, his story. I love Quigley and Jacques. But even then most fic with the Quagmires is very much romantic fic so I am solidly uninterested.

I feel like in terms of fic, this fandom really has 3 genres/circles: the Quagmire people, the sugar bowl gen people, and the violaf/klolaf people. I really am not a Quagmire person (all power to y'all, I'm just too aroapl for it). Most of what I write—okay, let's be honest, most of my ASOUE ideas are either only on FFN and not uploaded to AO3 yet or aren't written at all and are only in my head. But. If we look at that, I write a lot of stuff that's really just about the Baudelaires, which I feel like there's not quite enough of to form its own subgenre, but God I love it, and a lot of sugar bowl gen stuff. And then as for the Olaf shipping side, I do really love to read it, because I am absolutely a sucker for unhealthy relationships and putting characters through pain, but I doubt I'll ever write any of it. Other writers have covered and will continue to cover that ground really thoroughly and I have nothing to add. But I am aware that because I don't write it people might be like "oh, don't worry, it's not part of *that* side of the fandom" and like, no, I do in fact like problematic stuff.

I do have my fair share of ASOUE headcanons, though! There's the aroace Bertrand one I've posted here; Lemony having picked up smoking from Kit (who picked it up from Olaf); Jerome and Esme very much being a lavender marriage; I'm the one person who thinks we should keep referring to the Henchperson of Indetermine Gender with the it/its pronouns from the book because dammit, that's sort of it/its representation and I want to reclaim it; I absolutely following the school of thought some fic writers have that absolutely everyone in VFD was sleeping with each other because like... How else do you cope with knowing that you're going to die young and are embroiled in a fight that started before you were born and will continue after you die? (although granted, that one may be aroallo bias, as I'd love to be sleeping with everyone all the time with no solid relationships anyway). So I love ASOUE headcanons, and you can bug me about them all day, but not necessarily Quagmires. I'm always glad to watch people be enthusiastic about things, though, so I'm very glad people love them so much.

Anyway idk, I kinda just wanted an excuse to talk about my 3 main types of ASOUE theory. So thank you for that!

random hc that the Quagmire triplets work in a bit of a rock-paper-scissors configuration. Isadora is the best at encouraging and comforting Duncan, Duncan's really good at gently walking Quigley through introspection about his own feelings (Isadora tends to either give well-meaning advice that's too affected by her own perspective or tries to be supportive before he's fully figured out what he actually wants), and Quigley is great at cheering up Isadora or settling her down when she's mad.

Unfortunately (no pun intended) I don't specifically headcanon any of the charecters as nonbinary, although I have seen people have that hc for fiona and I can definately see that :)

now that I think abt it it's actually pretty ironic considering I myself am nonbinary, lol, but I can give you some of my other gender/sexuality headcannons I have!

Isadora I definitely see as trans, given that she's the only girl in a set of supposedly identical triplets. Idk if that's technically a headcannon since so many people believe it that it's basically canon at this point lol. She's also gay, but sometimes she uses the term sapphic just because she likes it's connection to the famous poet. (also, she kinda has this joke where whenever someone asks where she's from she says she's from the isle of lesbos and her brothers will just be laughing so hard in the background sinse they're the only ones who know what it means.)

Duncan I don't really have any gender specific hcs for but I do have this headcannon that when the triplets where around 4 or 5 they all snuck into they're parents room to play with their mom's makeup when they were supposed to be napping. They put it all away immediately after they heard her coming but they forgot to actually take the makeup off, which was super funny.

Mrs. Quagmire: where you three playing with my makeup box?

4 yr old quagmire triplets, with lipstick and eyeliner smeared all over their faces: .................... no.

and they all just generally enjoyed wearing makeup, so their parents started letting them wear it in family photos. that had almost nothing to do with what you asked and took very long so im so sorry, anyways!

Quigley is bi because I say so and also because someone else said so and I liked it so ya. I think that he has a preference for girls, but guys make him a lot more nervous, wich isadora teases him for and jokes that she's glad she's the only one not attracted to men because it looks exausting. And also quigly's a demiboy. "will you elaborate on that?" no.

Fiona i now headcanon as nonbinary, but using she/her pronouns, and also omniromantic (pref for girls) and demisexual. it just seems to fit. Also, in a modern au fiona is a goblincore and no one can tell me otherwise.

Klaus is gay

Violet is everyone's favorite bi disaster, but she only has eyes for isadora <3 (you don't have to agree on viodora, but you'll have to get used to me taking every operatunity to bring them up.) She also seems like a demi girl to me, and probably ace.

ok so the way i always saw it was isadora>quigley>duncan. i mostly just hc quigley as the middle child because not a lot of middle children get to be plot relevant, so i thought "hey wouldn't it be cool if-" lol

i also definently get older sister vibes from isadora, but i don't think there's that much of a difference in their ages (since they're triplets), i just feel like isadora seems the type to naturally jump to protect her brothers in a dangerous situation (although i could also definently see quigley being that type of brother).

Hiya! :) I have SO MANY hcs about them so thanks for asking!!!! :D

Pre-canon relationship dynamic:

Quigley was closer to Isadora than to Duncan before the fire although he still was really close to Duncan too. I mainly think this bc in ‘The Slippery Slope’ Quigley mentioned Isadora on her own a few times, even quoting a couplet she wrote, whereas he only mentioned Duncan when talking about both of his siblings.

In order of most to least mischievous growing up I feel like it’d go Quigley, then Isadora and lastly Duncan.

Games/How the triplets would play when they were young:

Duncan: Would grab any random object of *aproximately* the right size (could be one of his mother’s shoes or it could be a spatula) and pretend it was a microphone. He’d follow people around “reporting” (more so narrating,really) what they were doing. This would REALLY annoy Isadora bc the worst thing when having writer’s block would be to have someone right beside you describing how you “stare blankly at a page in anguish. No inspiration detected for at least another treacherous week”.

Quigley: Strikes me as the kind of guy to climb trees, regardless of age tbh. He just has the vibe.

He would build forts at EVERY opportunity. Duncan once challenged him to build one in every room of the mansion and he almost did, with the exception of his parents’ office which was always locked.

He’d also draw loads. His drawing of a cave in TSS was described as an “elegant rendering” so I imagine he started doing art young. He’d get too passionate with a box of crayons and end up snapping most of them though. For his sixth birthday he’s gifted one of those pencils with multiple colours in the led and somehow angles it so that all the purple is used up first.

Isadora: She’d write plays for her+her siblings to perform for their parents+their parents’ friends that had surprisingly dark plot lines, especially for a 7 year old. Oh, and all the lines would rhyme, of course. She’d get annoyed when people read the script and asked if it was all one long song rather that the masterpiece of poetry she intended it to be perceived as.

Quigley would really enjoy acting in her plays+pour his heart and soul into the performance. Duncan would get really excited about it and do great when practicing with just the three of them but when it came to the actual performance he’d get shy+back out meaning Quigley or Isadora have to fill in for his role.

For Halloween one year, Isadora thought it’d be an amazing idea to dress up as Evelyn the conjoined twin bc she loved the song ‘Evelyn Evelyn’ based on her but Quigley found their story too depressing and Duncan didn’t like that it meant one of the triplets would get left out. Quigley suggests ‘Alvin and the chipmunks’ as a group costume earning instant “no”s from his siblings. They end up dressing in individual costumes based off historical figures (A poet, an investigative journalist and an explorer) but create their own story involving time-travel that connects the 3 characters.

Isadora loves Halloween as she is a goth(headcannon) so it really goes with her vibe. Quigley takes information about monsters/spooky creatures like vampires or werewolves and uses it to decide on which part of the world would be best for them to inhabit. Duncan then uses Quigley’s theories to research newspaper articles from the area, searching for any sign of the creatures.

Style/Fashion sense 🌟🧥

Duncan 📰:

Comfy green jumpers/sweaters or sweater-vests, white short-sleeved dress shirts and dress trousers/pants. (Pre-canon)

Comfy green polo-neck jumpers and (usually brown) corduroy pants/trousers and either dark green or white high top shoes. (Post-canon) Occasionally wears neatly applied eyeliner. The slight change in style is bc Duncan doesn’t want to wear clothes that feel so similar to a school uniform after spending so much time with those as his only clothes at Prufrock. He’ll occasionally wear hoodies but not if he’s to be seen in public.

Owns a few T-shirts with Dorothy Parker quotes which he cherishes and wears daily, even if they can’t be seen under the jumper/sweater. One quote he’d have is: “The first thing I do in the morning is brush my teeth and sharpen my tongue”

Isadora+Quigley once bought him a quirky reporter’s hat with a feather in it as a joke but Duncan ended up adoring it; convincing himself it gave him an extra boost of inspiration when writing articles. 🪶

Quigley 🗺:

Initially, he struck me as a rucksack guy but I was reading over TSS yesterday and discovered he canonically uses a totebag, “I was putting an atlas in a totebag I found”-Quigley Quagmire (‘The Slippery Slope’ Chapter 8, page 148) so technically that’s a canon not a headcanon but oh well 🙃

Wears clothes more so for practicality than for style, although if he has a choice he’ll get things in dark purple.

He’d wear cargo pants bc of all the pockets; this would inspire Isadora to write a poem titled ‘Two and a half’ about a scientist who was trying to clone someone twice but messed up, resulting in one of the copies (Quigley) having no legs.

He would also wear a jacket with tonnes of pockets bc it’s practical for the explorer’s life he leads plus it looks cool. Although, it looks a little less cool when he stitches on a hood with fabric that doesn’t even match.

He drew maps on a couple of T-shirts and wears those, unfortunately he has to redraw them every time they get washed.

Wears exclusively boots bc of their grip+durability, one boot would have purple laces and the boot on the other foot would have black laces bc the original lace got stuck in a thorn bush so he stole borrowed one of Isadora’s.

As for accessories; a compass on string looped round his neck, clips shoved in at random to keep hair from falling in his face as he climbs, a hat/beanie with pins on it

Also: Frayed fingerless gloves!!! I saw this in one of Quill’s art pieces of Quigley and like the idea immensely ( @lemonysnicket ) :))

Always has the most RANDOM items in his pockets; will reach in looking for a packet of gum and come out with binoculars.

Isadora 📜:

Wears almost exclusively black: Black boots or high top converse (with doodles on the white toe bit in sharpie),

Wore black nail polish pre-canon. At Prufrock she improvises using black markers+pens on her nails. She once tried the same trick for mimicking eyeliner…it did not turn out well and Duncan brings it up at the WORST times.

Wears winged black eyeliner, smudged under the eyes.

Likes long swishy skirts (midi skirts). They’re sometimes a bit impractical but if she’s just spending the day writing poetry it’s fine. Otherwise she likes cuffed shorts with leggings underneath.

Violet once bought fishnet gloves bc she liked how they looked but gave them to Isa after they kept getting caught in her inventions. Isadora loves them even more bc they’re from Violet.

Has a really cool leather jacket but doesn’t wear it much bc she secretly worries that she isn’t cool enough for the jacket.

Has a T-shirt with all of Sappho’s poems printed out really small and arranged into a picture of Sappho herself. Quigley owns a similar one but his contains the bee-movie script.

Cooking abilities ranked🍳:

1: Quigley 🗺- he’s the best bc he had to cook for himself while “dead”. Granted, he did just eat canned peaches, toasted marshmallows, almonds and carrots but he had to find his own food anyway so that’s a start.

2: Isadora 📜- Her meals at Prufrock were cooked for her but it’s possible she had to cook for Duncan and herself at previous guardians. This task would fall on her as Duncan used to be afraid of stoves for a while after the fire

3: Duncan 📰- For the reason above and also bc he seems like the kind of guy who would mess up simple dishes by trying to apply extra information, “I read in a news article once about a famous chef who’d put mozzarella in porridge for extra flavour, let’s try that!” (Made-up quote)

Isadora: Fountain pen ✒️ bc it makes her poetry look fancy

Duncan: Biro bc it doesn’t smudge easily and he needs to writes down a lot of info quickly for his journalism 🖊

Quigley: Coloured biros bc they make maps easily decipherable+they don’t smudge easily which is useful for accuracy

In a modern AU Quigley has a 6 hour screen time average and it is ENTIRELY Google maps. Duncan listens to podcasts. Isadora’s Pinterest is made up completely of quotes.

Books/Literature 📚:

Apart from atlases, Quigley reads fantasy books with maps. He would adore books in the Grishaverse bc of this, especially obsessing over the canal system of Ketterdam which can be seen in detail in a map in ‘Crooked Kingdom’ by Leigh Bardugo. 📚 🧙‍♀️ However, with the Grisha triology (Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm + Ruin and Rising) he would be disappointed by how little the cartographer/ex-cartographer protagonist mentions maps.

Duncan would enjoy the ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ series due to the strategic, organised layout alongside Pip-the protagonist- ‘s note-taking skills. As Duncan aspires to be an investigative journalist he’d be enthralled by the investigations that are central in these books. He would annotate the books as he reads them; filling them with his own theories as well as highlighting important information.

The poem ‘Long Distance II’ by Tony Harrison doesn’t consist of rhyming couplets but I think Isadora would find its portrayal of grief powerful regardless of whether it’s in her preferred poetic format. Especially as it’s about the loss of family members.

Quigley would create his own fantasy map using tea-stained paper with rice spilled on it, drawing around the rice to get the outline of a country. He’d be really strategic about the details he draws though; having mountains before rivers so the water runs off of them etc. 🗺

Carmelita + Isadora?

Romantic ship! But only in Netflix, as what made me ship them is the thing with “it doesn’t rhyme!” “only cakesniffers care about poetic form!” (My draft for a fic of them is even called “poetic girlfriends”)

I have this whole hc that after TPP Carmelita is adopted by a librarian/volunteer who finally gives her some decent parent and supports her creativity, encouraging her to become a writer. She later meets the Quagmires again, who look into VFD to try and find the Baudelaires. The triplets are at first suspicious of her, but she eventually becomes sort of friends with the boys. Isadora remains suspicious for longer, as on top of everything she thinks Carmelita is disrespectful towards the art she loves the most, but after many discussions on writing and poetic form Feelings are born

Isadora: Great+capable parent but curses her children by making really dramatic+poetic emo statements so commonly that they are bound to make similar statements in public without realising that’s not a normal thing to do 🖤

Duncan: Friday night movie night but they just watch the news. 🍿

Quigley: Picked up the wrong baby from the hospital. Never noticed. It’s ten years later and the child’s been unknowingly swapped like 5 more times but hey other than that they get along great! Lots of family camping trips! And hikes! Quigley actively encourages the children to draw on walls to “unlock creative potential!”.
