“Ramonda; my dearest friend, my heart’s desire. The day I get to hold you in my arms in the way that I truly want, is the day I will be truly fulfilled” - Written by 16-year-old You
The atmosphere that your body had created in the room was unsettling. Your anxiety radiated off of your body and surrounded you along with the area around you. You ate your breakfast, nervous thoughts popping up in your head as you sat contemplating your love confession to Ramonda.
What if she rejected you? Or what if she completely lashed out at you and refused to be your friend anymore? Your fixation on the matter was making you grow more doubtful of the idea, but it was far too late to back down. It had been long enough.
Having known each other since before you were even in pre-school, you and Ramonda were the best of friends. You experienced living and growing up together, and there had never been anything that could break the two of you apart.
For the past 2 years, however, you'd been struggling with your feelings for Ramonda, and how they had changed from platonic feelings to those of romantic interest.
Simple things that used to be normal between the two of you, felt completely different. When the two of you would be gazing up at the stars at night right by the river, and she would lay her head on top of your chest, your heart would instantly start racing, and your whole body would go rigid, you face rushing with blood, embarrassing your even though she couldn't see it.
You knew after the 6 month mark that it wasn't a phase. You were in love with your best friend and you had no clue what to do about it. It was exactly like the age-old television drama scenario. And now you had to question; would she like you back or would you lose your best friend because she didn't feel the same way. The latter option kept repeating in your head.
The likelihood of her feeling the way you did felt slim to you, and you had little hope that your love was requited. But you'd been simmering on these feelings more desperately for a year, and they weren't going away.
As you sat at the table, you couldn't help but feel like it was time. Maybe the day out with her would be relaxing and you would find the strength within you to tell her about your feelings and it would actually work out.
It was risky, and your stomach dropping at the idea of it all didn't give you much reassurance, but you were going to do it. Just as you were finishing, your father walked into the kitchen, greeting you.
"Y/n, I need you to take these with you when you go to see Ramonda today. Her mother has requested them." He said, handing you a basket full of fabric.
You nodded, questioning why Ramonda's mother would need dress fabric when she didn't sew and more importantly, why your father had the fabrics in the first place.
Regardless of those questions, you took it with you as you went to her house. It wasn't very far away, so you were there in less than 10 minutes. You didn't knock on the door before entering, not even being afraid of getting into trouble with Ramonda's mother for it again.
Lumumba was scary when she was upset and she yelled at you many times for not knocking when entering her home, but she loved you like her own daughter so her lectures often flew over your head.
"Molweni, nonke (Hello, everyone)." You said happily as you entered the home, being graced with the presence of the entire family at the table except Ramonda.
"Molo, Y/n. (Hello, Y/n)." They all said in unison.
You put the basket down next to you, settling down next to them in your designated seat.
"Are those from your father?" Lumumba asked. Your nod confirmed her suspicions.
"Tell him thank you." She said, You nodded once again.
After a few minutes of silence, you asked. "Where's Ramonda?"
"She's out right now but she should be back before the afternoon. You can stay in her room while you wait." That was strange to you, because your best friend wasn't one to be out and about so early. You and her were more night owls than anything else.
You stood up and went into her room, sitting on her bed as you waited. It was her voice that woke you up. She shook you and you opened your eyes, smiling as you looked at her beautiful face.
"How long have you been here?" She asked.
"Since the late morning."
You looked at her in full focus now, and she was fully dressed up, like she had just come back from a special event. You looked her up and down a few times, then you made eye contact again.
She looked at herself for a moment, realising what you were looking at, "I'll explain later. Let's go."
And with that you both left her home.
The day was supposed to be fairly uneventful. You were going to your usual hideout in the mountains and would stay up there until the night came.
The mountain had been where you went for a break since you were kids. When the two of you were around ten, you had run away together. Like most kids, you didn't last very long before returning home, but you'd made it to the mountains that hid the real Wakanda from the world, just outside of Jabari Land.
For the 8 years following that, you had built and renovated a small house-like cave in one mountain and it had become your place together. It grew with you, your style and interests changing over the years. At the beginning, it was a cluttered mess of your toys and games; the walls decorated in posters on top of posters.
Now it was much more mature. There were two chairs that laid in the centre of the cave, while the natural hooks on the walls of the cave were used as shelves, storing the things you used regularly there. The walls were also a lot more bare. The placement of the chairs was perfect for looking out into the sky and land view, and that's what you did most of the time. It was a place where the two of you could escape.
The walk there this time was tense, your mutual silence being anything but comfortable. You could feel that Ramonda had something to tell you, and you were more sure than not that it had something to do with her earlier attire. But you didn't bring it up, choosing to take the rest of the voyage up the mountain in more silence.
When you reached your destination, Ramonda let out a relieved sigh, sitting in your seat just to annoy you. Usually, you would have said something sparky about her doing so, but you were so caught up in your own thoughts about your pending confession that you just turned and took her seat with a smile.
The two of you remained quiet for some time. Ramonda fiddled with your fingers while you looked out into the sky, hoping for her to start the conversation.
"I need to tell you something." She finally said.
"Okay."
She paused again. Hesitant to continue. You nodded your head, encouraging her to go on.
She breathed in, "I was with the royal family this morning."
"For political reasons?"
"In a sense, yes. But not completely." She explained. You looked away from the view, looking directly at her.
She was nervous, her mouth twitching as a result. "The prince and I had our first official private meeting. It is going to be the first of many, Y/n."
You hadn't caught onto what she was trying to say yet, you head searching for answers but not finding any.
"I've been promised to him, Y/n." She said, finally making you frown in realisation.
"As in a forced marriage." You stated more than asked.
She shook her head, hesitating once more. "I have agreed to start courting him now, but in a few years, when we are a little bit older, we will marry. It's more arranged than forced."
Your eyes grew wide and your body became stiff and still as it all settled in. Your Ramonda was going to be the future Queen of Wakanda. That was amazing. But she would be married to T'Chaka. And she'd leave the River Tribe and join the Golden Tribe.
"Y/n. Do you have something to say?"
Now it was you who shook your head.
"I just told you that I am going to be marrying the future king in a few years. You have nothing to say to that."
"No."
Your eyes grew glossy, and all you could do was pray to Bast that she couldn't see your clear heartbreak. Wiping your nose from instinct, "No, I'm happy for you, Ramonda."
She scoffed, knowing how you only wiped your nose when you were lying, "It doesn't look like it."
You tried again. "No, really I am." You laughed through the pain. "I always knew you'd be the queen of something. Who knew it would be the whole country."
She was still sceptical, but her tone grew softer and she chopped your previous emotion to the shock pf it all.
"Should I start calling you,  my queen?" You joked.
"Let's not rush into titles." She smiled.
Hours Later ...
You slammed the door shut, entering your home again in a frustrated and manic state. You weren't sure who was home, but it was late enough for you to presume that everyone was in bed already.
The tears from previously came up again, and your throat tightened. Out of all of the outcomes that you had predicted, another person blocking you from confessing your feelings had never even come into the equation. You felt completely blindsided.
What angered you was her keeping it secret for so long. If their supposed courting was arranged from a promise, then she must have known about it for at least 6 months, if not a year or two. Her family wouldn't hide something like that from her.
Clearly all of them were willing to lie to you though.
You were caught up in your love for a year and she had been lying to you the whole time. This wouldn't have even mattered had you not already fallen. But you had fallen. Hard.
Now she would eventually move far away from the River Village, all the way to the palace where you probably wouldn't be able to see her much without travelling a whole distance.
Every attempt to stop the tears only made them worse and before you knew it the sound of your breakdown was echoing throughout your house walls, holding the potential to wake anyone up. Footsteps echoed towards you and you cursed internally for the noise you had created.
"Y/n?" Came your father's voice. His large figure appearing in your vision.
He wore the same pair of tacky pyjamas that you had gotten him for fathers day as a child, something he cherished entirely too much.
His work as a War Dog gave him an intimidating physique, but he was soft in personality. It was a strange sight to many, but to you it was just the man that raised you being himself.
He got to you and wrapped himself around you, embracing you in a comforting hug as you let your emotions run wild. You muttered curses and a few vulgar things in all the languages you knew, some that even your father couldn’t translate. You let your eyes go blood red from the tears.
You stayed standing in that hug until your tears had subsided, only then did you shift yourselves to your bedroom, where you sat on the edge of your bed side by side as you leaned against him.
“We don’t have to talk, but if you need anything, Y/n. Tell me.” he said. It was something he said whenever you cried. Your only job in his eyes was to tell him what you needed and it would be done.
Barely giving yourself time to think your request through, "Father, I need you to train me so that I can become a Dora." You said after settling down.
"You've never taken interest in being a part of the Dora Milaje. What brings this new interest?"
You looked away now, not wanting to admit to the spur of the moment idea that you had only just decided on seconds before.
He was right, you had never taken interest in becoming a part of the Adored Ones, and many people had asked you about it. You were built quite strong already, regularly working out with your father for most of your life giving you the gift of a great body.
The Captain, who trained new Doras had asked you to become one when you were 16 on numerous occasions but you had declined.
However, now that Ramonda was going to be a Royal family member, there was actually someone you cared to protect there. You liked T'Chaka and his family, but Ramonda was a much more rewarding person to protect.
You gave your father a shortened version of this explanation.
"Things have changed, Baba. Are you willing to help me?"
"Anything for my daughter." He responded, giving you his signature smile of assurance .
You mirrored that smile, being grateful for his constant blind support.
"Thank you, Baba."
He sighed, allowing you to get into bed, clothes and jewellery still on and all, while he went back to sleep. You went to bed with a completely new life plan, not having a clue what you were going to do about your feelings, but at least knowing that you would be staying close to Ramonda.
□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□
Ramonda could feel the shift in your character that day.  How you had grown more hostile towards her, even if only subtly. How you were less comfortable sharing physical contact with her in any form.
Hand holding was a staple to your friendship for years, and that day you hadn't put out your hand for her to take like usual. Regret started to fill her body when she realised that her initial plan to ease you into the situation slowly had failed completely.
Why had she waited so long?
She couldn't even answer that question.
For a while she thought it was because the event wasn't that major, so there was no need to tell you yet. But, after the day had ended, she knew that that was far from the reason. Becoming the prince's wife was going to be a big event. And she knew that.
Sitting down to ponder on her decisions, she couldn't help but start to feel like there was an emotional barrier that had prevented her from telling you. The problem was that she wasn't sure what the emotions were.
Your friendship felt like something close, like something more than just a friendship, but the denial was so deeply sewn in, Ramonda refused to acknowledge it.
Others who saw the two of you would call it a sisterhood, but you and her constantly felt weird when people called it that. It didn't feel like you were family. At least, not in the way that others thought it looked.
Of course you had been the only one to delve deeper into your dynamic and realise that the friendship had more of a romantic resemblance than a familial one.
Ramonda had yet to pick apart the way that the two of you behaved around each other. That is why she hadn't fought very hard when her mother informed her that she was to wed the future king.
She had happily gotten into her best clothing and gone to the palace to meet T'Chaka and his family more formally. The teens already knew each other, from their families having close relations, but there was always an official meeting that needed to take place in these situations.
T'Chaka was kind, and charming and he seemed to actually care about making Ramonda comfortable, which made her feel like the situation was perfect for her. She wasn't going to lie and say that she didn't feel a spark with him. There was definitely chemistry there.
But the memories of the nice morning meeting soured when the rest of the day's encounters didn't go as sweetly.
Ramoda struggled to sleep that night, not sure why she was even truly conflicted.
Her beads buzzed the next day, and she tiredly checked what it was.
It was a message from you: Meet me at the mountain.
She didn't take a second glance, getting ready and leaving her home in the early morning.
Dawn had barely arrived when she got to your spot, and she was still a bit sluggish. Ramonda was really not a morning person, and you knew that, but you couldn't wait to tell her your news.
You exchanged pleasantries, and she sat in her chair, waiting for you to define what was on today's agenda.
"I made a decision yesterday." You said, rubbing your hands together awkwardly. Once you noticed your nervous habit creeping in you made your hands into temporary fists, before releasing them and taking a deep breath to reset.
Ramonda didn't say anything, just waiting for you to continue.
"My father is going to help me train and I'm going to become a Dora."
Ramonda raised an eyebrow, "Why can't you just train with the regular trainees? Why are you also going to train with your father?"
Luckily you were prepared for that question.
"I want to be the best at it. Maybe climb a few ranks by the time we're 25." You explained.
She nodded in understanding. Even though she didn't understand the sudden desire to be a part of the Dora Milaje, she didn't ask you about it.
"That will be nice. We'll both be at the palace." She smiled as she woke up more, and you talked about the possibilities.
"I can see it right now. Y/n, General of the Dora Milaje." She continued, causing you to let out a stiff chuckle.
"And everyday I'll greet you by saying, My Queen." You brought out the nickname again.
She rolled her eyes but did not argue, "and I'll call you, My warrior."
Your heart fluttered at that. You liked that name, especially when it came out of her mouth.
The two of you continued on that route and yesterday's bad news seemed a lot less sad by the end of it. You knew that your feelings were going to affect you, but you just wanted to take it one problem at a time.
Tumblr media
For the years that came after that, you did exactly what you had set out to do.
You trained heavily with both the Dora Milaje and your father, and in less than a few months, you were a part of the Dora Milaje. Your training intensified as time went on, and your dedication to the job was heavily praised and acknowledged by both the royal family, and your fellow sisters.
You moved to the Golden City 6 months after that, the voyage from the River Village to the Palace being far too large for you to take everyday. You said your goodbyes on an emotional day, thanking your father for his help, while tears flooded both of your faces.
You promised to visit once a week and although your family insisted that that was too much and would put a strain on you, you kept that promise. You went to stay the night every Friday after work and you'd leave in the middle of the next Saturday, going back to work once again.
Ramonda moved into the Palace a year later, and the engagement between her and T'Chaka was announced. You struggled to but forced yourself to go to the engagement celebration, meeting T'Chaka as Ramonda's best friend, though the two of you had been working together for 4 months at that point.
You grew a slow liking for him. Seeing how well he treated her, and how happy she was.
He respected your close relationship with her and never interfered in it, which you appreciated.
Ramonda and you stayed just as close, and you were right beside her on the day of her wedding, wearing your best dress as you handed her to the one she truly loved. You left early that day, claiming that you didn't feel well. Which you didn't. You ran home that day. Confiding in your father as he comforted you.
"Let it out, my child." He said as you cried that night. And you did exactly that.
You stayed there for the week, needing to be with your Tribe, even though you were technically now part of the Golden Tribe. The River was your true home, and nothing would change that.
Returning the next week, you put in all of your energy into your work as an Adored One. You became the Captain in the 3 months following that. And less than a year later, you were the general. You became the youngest general in recent history, leading the group at the ripe age of 21.
T'Chaka became the Black Panther only a few years after that, and the title of King didn't come very long after that.
The two of you grew closer, more for Ramonda's sake than anything, but you did create a friendship of your own. You worked well together and the two of you ended up having a brother-sister kind of relationship. You were similar in that you were both sometimes quite reckless at work sometimes.
Ramonda would reprimand the both of you for taking unnecessary risks on missions but you never seemed to stop.
"It's like the two of you are on a constant mission of risking your lives everytime you leave." She would huff as she fixed either of your wounds. Her words never stopped you though, as you were so high on your title and obligations.
The high of it all only got to you again when Ramonda announced that she was pregnant.
Your reaction was better than at the wedding, as you stayed there the entire time, only retreating to the River Village on your regular Friday afternoon.
You kept your sorrow inside the entire time, only showing love and support to the couple.
At the time, your father was used to you crumbling into yourself whenever you came over, so he was ready.
You took only the night though, and you were soon back in the palace celebrating the news like everyone else.
The thought of becoming a war dog, just to be away from it all, crossed your mind a lot but you chose to just stick it out.
When Prince T'Challa was born you couldn't help but love him. He looked just like Ramonda to you and you loved being around him.
Watching Ramonda and T'Chaka raise him brought you a lot of joy, though you knew that it would never be you there.
You acted like a second mother to him, and he treated you as such but as he grew older, the questions about your lack of a romantic companion or your own children became more frequent.
"Ma," He would call you, "Why don't you have any kids?"
You would play with his hair and tickle him as you answered. "You are the only child I need right now." And he wouldn't ask much for a while after that.
The one thing noticed by all though was your need to be the greatest had heightened. All you did when you weren't with T'Challa and Ramonda was train.
If you weren't hurting yourself trying to prove yourself on a mission, you were hurting yourself trying to prove yourself in training.
Ramonda would yell at you and complain whenever she saw a new unhealed wound on you, but your behaviour never changed.
After almost 2 decades being the General, your commitment was recognized with many awards and you were also assigned a much less tasking job. You were to be Ramonda's personal guard, and you were to be with her at all times, to protect her.
Conveniently enough, this was when she became pregnant with her second child, so it was perfect timing. T'Challa was grown up, and his training had started. You were still a mentor to him, and you regularly trained not only him, but the new Dora Milaje trainees.
You were a legend then, to say the least. Your life journey fighting to protect the royal family being plastered everywhere.
By the time Princess Shuri was born, you were more than confident that you'd fulfilled what you had to.
You didn't need a spouse, or kids of your own. You had plenty of family, all around you. And although your feelings never truly went away. You were content with what your life had given you.

2 years post T'Chaka's death
You and Ramonda walked into the American conference room, looking around to see the growing number of representatives arriving for yet another conference where Wakanda's vibranium was to be a topic of conversation.
T'Challa, being not only king, but the Black Panther, couldn't make it to this meeting, and Ramonda was quick to dismiss his worries of missing the event and offered her help by taking his place and reporting what happened back to him when she was done.
You, her bodyguard, were obligated to be there, for her protection.
Even though Ramonda was adamant that it was safe enough at a meeting like this, you stayed close by her, feeling wary and suspicious of everyone who approached.
There just seemed to be something off about the whole thing. How they called this meeting when Wakanda had been operating very well with protocol.
You had been just as reluctant to share the truth about Wakanda's true power, your head siding more with T'Chaka's reasoning behind keeping it safe. But, T'Challa was so convinced that this was the way that things needed to go, and your heart supported him fully, so you didn't argue but rather just helped him as much as you could.
You travelled to new outreach centres regularly when your duties for Ramonda were less necessary or when she insisted you leave her to be alone.
You gave T’Challa advice when he asked for it and you kept your mouth shut when your opinions weren't needed. But now, it just felt like some parts of the world were getting greedy, and the more Wakanda gave to them, the more they asked for.
This is why you stood so rigid, your spear in close proximity to your hands just in case anything happened. You scanned the room as Ramonda exchanged pleasantries with the representatives of the other countries.
Most of them you had seen before, and some of their assistants and guards even looked familiar, but there were a few new faces around.
Just as the meeting was about to begin, you spotted a suspicious woman hovering by the door. She looked extremely familiar to you, but you couldn't decipher the reason why. You knew that you'd never seen her specifically before.
You glared at her as people spoke, and Ramonda looked at you with a worried expression for the majority of the meeting but it was only when the meeting came to a halftime break when you said something.
"Do you see that woman there?" You pointed at the woman as discreetly as possible. Ramonda nodded.
"She has been hovering by that door since we arrived. She's not with a representative, that's one thing I know." You said.
"What are you insinuating?"
You became stumped again. You weren't really sure what you were insinuating.
If you were to outwardly declare that the woman was a threat, without having even spoken to her, you could just be accusing an innocent bystander of being a major threat. That wouldn't be fair to her. Mostly because she had yet to actually do anything besides hover.
On the other hand though, you had a bad hunch about her, and your hunches were never wrong.
Seeing that you couldn't answer her question, Ramonda sighed and directed you to look at her.
"Look, My warrior. I get that your Dora senses are creeping in but I'll tell you if I need your protection."
You nodded begrudgingly, silently lying so you could keep eyeing the woman out.
When the meeting commenced, you couldn't help but keep looking at that woman.
Something was strange about her. The bag she was carrying looked heavy. Abnormally heavy.
"Y/n." Ramonda whispered. "Stop staring."
You averted your gaze for a few seconds, deciding to look more around her than at her.
Something wasn't adding up. You squinted, looking closer to see that she had something small in her unoccupied hand.
Ramonda let out a fake cough to get your attention again. You looked her way for only a brief second, dismissing her with your hand as you looked more at the bag.
There was a wire coming out of the bag, and the wire led to the wall, where it was attached to more split wires that ran up the walls.
They were almost invisible, but you could tell that there was a lot of them.
What in Bast's name was this woman plotting?
You turned your gaze back to her, examining her face again. Then it hit you.
She looked exactly like Ulysses Klaue, the one that Erik had killed two years ago. They were almost identical, down to the same look of revenge.
"Ramonda. Get down." You commanded, taking your spear out. Ramonda looked at you confused. "Ramonda, I said GET DOWN!"
"What's happening?!" Asked a representative on the left, looking at you making a scene.
4 seconds passed before an explosion happened. Every inch of the room lit on fire.
Screaming followed as everyone was knocked onto the ground with great impact.
You hit your head hard, and your vision became blurry as you looked for her. Where was your Queen?
"Ramonda!" You yelled, looking around for her.
"RAMONDA!"
Successfully finding your spear, you stood up onto the unstable podium to search for her. People were fleeing, and your ears were useless. Your vision cleared up slightly, and your eyes landed on the woman.
Her hands reached down for the bag, and she took out a machine that you could tell almost instantly was made of vibranium.
Her aim was towards the left. Towards Ramonda.
Ramonda was getting up, looking around in a daze and she wasn't fully aware of what was going on. Before you could think, you jumped down towards the woman, running your spear towards her.
As you jumped and lodged your spear straight through her chest, you felt the impact of three sharp shots coming, straight through you, followed by a final shot that left you on the floor, unconscious.
Tumblr media
"Y/N!" Ramonda screamed out as she saw you get shot and impaled 4 times.
She rushed to your side, stumbling over the broken objects that laid on the floor. When she reached you, she nearly collapsed seeing you.
Your body was severely hurt, the vibranium from the weapon causing a lot of damage.
Ramonda's mind went blank, and she didn't remember much of what happened next.
She remembered screaming for help, and pressing her beads to get someone to get a quinjet to the two of you.
The next thing she knew, T'Challa was there in a Black Panther suit, and Okoye was ripping your spear out of the woman's chest.
She came back to reality when T'Challa lifted you into his arms screaming, "We have to get her to Shuri!"
She followed quickly, and the ride back to Wakanda was longer than any cross trip had ever felt. It wasn't actually that long, as the quinjets speed was far more advanced than any other aircraft on Earth.
Shuri was prepared as soon as your body arrived, having a group of Wakanda's best doctors there with her.
You were taken to the lab, and while Ramonda herself needed to be examined, she was fighting everyone in her way to get to you.
"She is losing too much blood, Shuri!" Ramonda yelled as Dora Milaje tried to constrain her to stay away from you.
She was stressing the young girl out. And her statement only made things worse. Now Shuri paid attention to the blood on her hands, and how much of it was coming out.
"Mother, you must let them help her without interfering!" T'Challa spoke, trying to get Ramonda to calm down.
"I AM NOT LEAVING HER!"
"You have to Mother!" He yelled.
Shuri looked at your mother in shock, having never seen her yell like that.
The sound of your heart rate dropping to zero is what got the attention back on you.
"She's going into Cardiac Arrest!" Shuri panicked, looking at your dying body.
She immediately started CPR. Trying to get oxygen back into your body. After using both your beads for shock waves and her arms for chest compressions and still not results, she became worried. Tears filled her eyes and she tried to revive your lifeless body.
Ramonda was finally taken outside, fighting off both Okoye and the 3 others that it took to take her to just outside the lab.
"NOOOOOO!" She screamed, kicking and fighting with all of her might, until she finally collapsed on the floor.
The Dora wrapped her in a tight;y gripped hold on the floor, mostly to stop her from getting up but also to get her to calm down.
Her voice grew raw as she yelled out your name.
"Let me GO!" She directed the demand towards Okoye, who she knew would relent to her command easier than the others.
"My Queen, Please. We can not risk you going back there."
"I won't! Just let me go!" Ramonda cried out.
Ramonda felt the words tear through her like a knife. Slowly letting go of the queen, Okoye commanded the others to do the same.
Ramonda laid on the floor, praying that you weren't with the ancestors yet. That you were still with her.
She couldn't handle your death right now. Or ever. You were everything to her. You were a part of her, and if you were gone, so was a large part of her. She listened for the noises coming from the lab, though the sound proofing feature made it impossible.
In the lab, your heart had started beating again, and Shuri was now working on your wounds.
Her mother's pleads rang through her head.
"She's losing too much blood, Shuri!"
Tumblr media
"Mother. She is alive." Shuri struggled to look down at her mother's broken figure on the outside of the lab.
Ramonda looked up, eyes red and still crying.
What Shuri had expected was a sigh of relief, but instead Ramonda broke down even more.
"Mother, we saved her. She is alive." Shuri repeated, thinking that maybe she hadn't heard right.
"You barely saved her." Ramonda spat out, still furious that both Shuri and T'Challa had allowed the Dora Milaje to take her away.
It wasn't an appropriate reaction by any means, but it was the only thing Ramonda felt. Anger.
"She could have died because of you." She said next, just saying things to hurt her.
"What?" Shuri's previously hopeful eyes watered at those words. She had just witnessed the most horrifying sight. Her second mother was basically dead. And she had to be the one to save her. And her mother was blaming her.
She stepped back, going further back into the lab.
Okoye, who had heard it all from behind the door, followed a crying Shuri to a corner in the lab where nobody would see them.
"She didn't mean that." Okoye insisted. She offered herself to Shuri, allowing her to come in for a hug. Shuri took the offer, wrapping Okoye in a tight and anxious hug, even with all of the blood still on her.
"Because of me?" Shuri said, prompting Okoye to shake her head. "Shuri. She is in pain. She didn't mean it."
Shuri tried to nod, tried to agree with Okoye and reassure herself that her mother hadn't meant those words. But it didn't work, the tears doubling as yet another sentence went through her head.
"Give her a moment, Shuri." Tears were in Okoye's eyes too. Seeing Shuri emotional and seeing your blood on her triggered the emotions up.
You and her had a close bond too. You had trained her to become General when your reign was over, truly believing in her capabilities. You had basically taught her everything that she had used to her the position, older techniques that were never taught in training.
Seeing you in your state was shocking to her too.
"She's going to be fine, " she assured herself, while Shuri nodded, letting go of her after some time.
Your body was relocated to Intensive Care once you were stitched and wrapped, Shuri staying with you to settle you in.
Thanks to Wakandan technology, you'd be awake in a matter of hours, but your pain levels were something Shuri anticipated would be excruciating, being hit with vibranium being very different than with a regular weapon.
Ramonda entered the room as Shuri was pondering, slowly approaching your bed while completely ignoring Shuri.
Shuri stood, going to leave.
"Mother, I-"
"-Shuri, please." Ramonda's face was fragile and her emotions were close to overflowing again. Her daughter's words could wait.
Shuri took that and left the room, not before hearing, "Tell the guards to leave."
The two Dora that had stood by the door, exchanged glances, before going with Shuri, not wanting to cross the former Queen after seeing her blow up.
Tumblr media
10 Hours after the event …
The first thing you felt when your body allowed you to become conscious again was fire. Every muscle in your body felt like it was on fire, the burning sensation reaching parts of your body that you had yet to discover before. You felt every organ in you working to keep you alive. Your heart was pounding trying to get blood throughout your body, extreme chest pain that felt like it was killing you being an effect of this.
You let out a loud scream that pierced through the ears of anybody that was in the room with you. Your eyes shot open but you couldn't move beyond that, your body feeling like a kettle boiling your insides.
You looked around to see that you were in the palace infirmary. The intensive care section; you could tell by the sign that hung by the door.
Tears slipped out of your eyes and were quickly streaming down from the pain that you were in.
"Y/n…" Came Ramonda's voice as she appeared seemingly out of nowhere and  wiped your tears, trying to calm you down. There was a heavy relief in your mind when it finally registered to you.
She was alive and okay. You thanked Bast as that was all that you could wish for. For her to be safe and for your pain to be worth something.
That wasn't to say that you were content with the amount of pain you were in. Out of all of your years being a Dora, even the worst injuries had not hurt this much. This was a different type of pain. One that reminded you of death even though you'd never died before.
"My warrior, breathe for me." She said, offering her hand for you to take. It took everything in you to but you took her hand in yours and used it to balance the pain. Ramonda easily tolerated the intense squeezing of her hand, feeling that it was the least that she could do.
Trying your best to breathe as the tears still streamed down, a knock came at the door.
Ramonda turned, conflicted. Not wanting to leave your side as you were in your own world from this pain but also not wanting to welcome people in to see you like this unless absolutely necessary. After weighing her options, she reluctantly decided to let the knocker in.
"Come in." She declared, and the door opened to Shuri entering the room with a vile of a pink liquid.
"Mother, the pain reliever is finished. She needs to drink some of this for temporary relief." Shuri hesitantly walked toward her mother and handed her the vile, sparing a glimpse at your tranced state. The day had been one of new experiences for the child, not only seeing you, her 3rd parent nearly die in her hands on the operating table, but also seeing her mother's reaction to your near death.
She was no stranger to the close bond that you and her mother shared but seeing the way Ramonda so quickly crumbled into herself, losing it on everyone around as your heart rate quickly dropped. It was a sight that even Shuri was not prepared to see. Her mother hitting rock bottom.
Ramonda gave her daughter a look, one that asked for privacy, knowing that she would only be able to talk to her daughter about the day's events when you were peacefully asleep.
Shuri got the message, slowly shifting to leave, before walking out of the door.
Alone again, Ramonda turned to you, who was squeezing her hand only moderately less. Your eyes were closed again, as your breathing required all of your energy.
"Y/n, you need to drink this. Your heart is under a lot of strain and it could lead to cardiac arrest again." She croaked out through the tears that you only now realised were on her face.
'Cardiac Arrest Again?' You thought.
The injury to your body was worse than you thought. You couldn't imagine being that close to death. But you did feel like your heart had stopped for a while, and was now struggling to catch up.
But the liquid in the vile looked anything but pleasant, and you weren't one for putting concoctions in your body. You couldn't help but question whether you were willing to ingest it.
"Y/n, Please!" her voice brought you back to reality, her pleads for you to drink the concoction breaking your already weak heart.
You slowly opened your mouth and allowed her to pour some of the liquid in your mouth, swallowing to taste the worst thing you had ever tasted in your life. If it hadn't brought you almost instant relief, you would have passed out from the added nausea along with the burning pain.
Your face relaxed, letting Ramonda know that it was working. She breathed out a heavy sigh, sitting down next to you as your grip loosened. The two of you sat there for several minutes while you waited to see how much relief the pain reliever could give you.
Ramonda soaked in your alive presence, refusing to let go of it now that she had seen it when it was not alive. The both of you pondered to yourselves, thinking of what you could say to each other after such a major event.
When you could tell that your pain relief had peaked, with most of your fiery pain being reduced to aches, you opened your eyes and you cleared your throat.
"Are you okay, My Queen?" You groaned, your voice extremely hoarse.
Your best friend looked at you with eyes of complete disbelief. "Am I okay? No. I just witnessed your heart stop and nearly not start again." She blurted out, a bit agitated that you would even ask that. Seeing you flinch at her words she sighed out an apology.
"What I meant to say is that your question is irrelevant, Y/n. My wellbeing means nothing right now. " She insisted.
You shook your head, "Your state of being does not mean nothing, Ramonda."
"This is no time for compliments, Y/n. What you did was reckless and nearly killed you. You're what matters right now."
"Doing my job was reckless? You've never been one to judge someone for simply doing their job." You stated, not wanting to argue with her but also getting more and more annoyed with her being upset with you for protecting her.
"You did your job as my bodyguard, yes. But what about your job as my closest companion? You're itching to save me would have meant nothing if you had died!" Her voice increased in volume, the tension in the room building quickly.
"WHY would you even do that, Y/N!" She yelled now, and it all just bubbled over.
You lost all sense and the words that you'd so deeply wanted to declare for the last several decades finally came out.
"Because I love you, okay! I love you! THAT'S WHY I DID IT!” You argued back at her, which surprised her considering your state. She was so caught up in that, she almost missed your declaration.
"You love me?" She said, requesting for you to explain yourself. You stayed silent, refusing to repeat nor expand on the words that had slipped out completely accidentally.
You could feel your heart racing, and Ramonda saw the distress in your face. She squeezed your hand to tell you to breathe; and you did.
"Forget it." You huffed, trying to move to face away from her but failing miserably.
After a few calm breaths, "Just don't say that your wellbeing means nothing. Not as I sit in this condition because I wanted to do everything to save it." You changed the course of the conversation almost instantly. Ramonda, although wanting so desperately for you not to, understood why it felt that you had to.
"I'm sorry for saying that. It was an inconsiderate thing to say, after…" She couldn't even bring herself to finish her words.
You looked deeply into her eyes, moving your free hand to sit on top of your interlocked ones. Immediately, tears developed and fell, both of you crying silently.
Tumblr media
15 hours after the event
Shuri sat in the laboratory, still shaking from seeing what she had. It was a lot for an 18 year old to handle.
T'Challa sat next to her, less shaken physically, but mentally his head was in the clouds.
"How did she look?" He asked his sister, as he had left shortly once you were confirmed as alive, needing to get back to America to finish looking at everything before false information spread. He had fought off reporters for hours, answering questions that lacked actual importance. He had come back as soon as possible and had been sitting there for an hour.
"Not great. But I barely saw her properly anyway, Mother was all I could focus on. Her beads indicate that she is fine now, though." Shuri replied, looking off into the distance.
After much debate with herself, Shuri finally brought herself to ask her brother some very important questions.
"T'Challa, have you ever seen Mother like that before?"
The king nodded his head, immediately. "With Ma? Definitely."
"Never with Father?" Shuri continued. She wasn't sure why she was even asking, already sure of the answer she was going to receive.
"She would be worried sick when Baba came home hurt, but it never compared to when Aunt Y/n would come back hurt." T'Challa explained, reflecting back on the times when you or his father would be severely injured, and how differently she would react to each of you.
"When Baba came back hurt, she would stay strong for us and the country, and then when she knew he was okay, she would fall into herself for a few hours, and then stand strong once again." He spoke to his sister, and Shuri listened, knowing that he had more experience seeing these instances than her.
"When Ma would come back hurt…" he shook his head at the memories ",she would fall apart first, then stay that way for a while even after she knew that she was okay. Mother has never been able to stay strong when it comes to Ma."
"Why is that?" Shuri asked another question. T'Challa wasn't used to this, Shuri usually being far smarter and more knowledgeable in the things they talked about.
He thought for a second.
"Mother loved Baba. Her struggle with his death has shown us that, but there has always been more than that with Aunt Y/n. Something much stronger."
"It is almost like they are one person, and when Aunt Y/n is hurt, it feels to Mother that she is hurt as well." He explained more to himself than to you.
"Is it because of romantic feelings?" Shuri asked finally.
"That, I can not answer. Only mother could tell you that, Shuri." With that, T'Challa stood up, knowing that he needed to go and continue his duties as King.
He left the princess with one last statement.
"Mother will be fine, Shuri. She just needs time and our support."
Shuri nodded in understanding.
Watching her brother enter the elevator to exit the lab, she rose from her position, resuming her monitoring of your heart rate.
There was nobody else in there, as she had dismissed all work for the day when your body had arrived, so it was completely silent besides the ambient sounds that the working machines released. The atmosphere resembled that of when she was working through the night and someone would have to come in there to tell her that it was far past an appropriate hour, and she needed to go to her headquarters to sleep.
"Griot, where is my mother?" Shuri asked the AI.
"Queen Ramonda is located in the 1st intensive care ward in the infirmary with Y/n, Princess." The voice replied.
Shuri nodded, having figured that her mother wouldn't have moved much since she had left.
Deciding to listen to her brother and offer her struggling mother some support, she kept the screen monitoring your status up, but moved on to leave the lab as well, to go and offer a helping hand.
Tumblr media
Ramonda looked at you as you slept, your hands still interlaced. Your tears had gradually stopped an hour ago, and you'd been asleep for almost that long.
She analysed your sleeping state. She could tell by the scrunch in your face that the pain was returning, and she knew that you'd be back to your burning state soon, so she decided that it was time for her to quickly leave and retrieve some of your and her necessities, because it was going to be a long couple of nights.
Just as she was opening the door to leave, seeing that the guards had listened and not stayed stationed outside of the room, she saw Shuri approaching with a large tray in her hands.
Shuri looked up, surprised that her mother had even opened the door, yet alone went out of the room.
"Mother!" She said, "I was just coming to offer you some food. Ma’s vitals seemed strong in the lab so I assumed that you would be relaxed enough to eat something by now."
Ramonda looked lovingly at her daughter, looking down at the tray once again.
"I didn't cook it, Mother." Shuri finally let out, causing Ramonda to laugh at her daughter's self-deprecating statement.
"Thank Bast for that." Ramonda joked, receiving a dramatic gasp in return accompanied with a relieved smile.
"I was just going to retrieve a few things from my chambers for the night." Ramonda explained, reluctant to say much more.
"I can do that, Mother." Shuri offered.
Her mother shook her head, "No need for that, my child. I was also going to pass by Y/n's headquarters to retrieve a few of her things upon my return"
"I can do that too, Mother. Just tell me what you need." Shuri offered once more. Seeing the look on Ramonda's face, she offered her own expression of reassurance.
"Mother… I am here to help, nothing more. I understand your reaction from earlier. I might have been the same way had I had the history that you and Aunt Y/n have. Go be with her. I'll get everything."
Ramonda nodded, finally listing all of the things she was going to retrieve, also making sure to clarify where everything was located.
"Shuri." Ramonda said, with the tray now in her hands, her body headed in the direction of your room again.
"Yes mother."
"Thank you… and… I'm sorry for taking my emotions out on you, earlier. That was not right."
Shuri smiled an accepting smile and went on her way, Ramonda doing the same.
As she entered your room, you were shifting more than before, which gave her a bit more peace of mind, knowing that this too would pass.
She just hoped that when it did, you wouldn't take back the words that you had said. And if you didn't, she hoped that you also meant to say them in the way that she interpreted them.
Her feelings were as mixed as the first day she had just spent with T'Chaka before they started courting. Only this time around, she knew a lot more about what she really wanted.
Tumblr media
Three weeks later
A knock came at your door and you already knew who it was.
"Come in."
Ramonda walked in, wearing her much more casual attire. She hadn't worn anything formal since the event that had taken place all those weeks ago.
She gave you a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, another thing that you hated about being hurt.
Seeing her for the past fortnight had been extremely tough on you. She was trying so hard to be strong for you but you had caught her crying while she thought you were asleep multiple times.
Your conversations held very little depth to them, both of you never mentioning the words that you had so foolishly yelled out but rather just talking about your recovery.
Your injuries were healing well, which you were grateful for. You just had to move a lot slower than you were used to, and you barely left your headquarters without assistance,  Ramonda having reprimanded you when she caught you trying to go to the kitchen by yourself during the first week.
The only real difference between Ramonda on that day and Ramonda now was that she allowed other people to see you. More specifically Shuri and the people that you felt were important to you.
Your heart was still at high risk, so  she was wary of too many people overwhelming you and you possibly having more complications, but regardless,  things were getting better.
Ramonda looked at you sitting up in your bed, choosing to sit on the edge of the bed on your left side. The silence was deafening. You could see that she had so much to say, but she wasn't saying anything.
"My Queen," you took her hand and placed it between both of yours. You hadn't used that term in 3 weeks, so her face relaxed at your attempt at reassurance.
"My warrior…" She started, smiling a more genuine smile now. You reciprocated. "I wanted to talk with you. About a very important matter."
"I didn't go out last night. Whoever you saw was someone completely different." You defended your actions from the previous night, assuming that that was the thing she was confronting you about.
She laughed. "No, that's not what I'm here to talk about. Although your defence is terrible, and we'll probably talk about that later."
"Y/n." She cleared her throat, needing you to hear her as clearly as possible.
"You said something 3 weeks ago, when we were alone." She ended up saying. You shut your eyes in defeat. You'd hoped that what you said could be ignored forever.
"Ramonda, I'm sorry. I crossed a line with all of what I said. I was just so high on adrenaline and things that were never supposed to come out, ended up coming out."
"So it was true."
You kept quiet at that, too embarrassed to admit that it was the truest thing about you.
"How long?" Is all she asked next. You understood exactly what she was asking.
"A tremendously long time."
"So, for years."
You shook your head. "More like for decades." Detaching your hand from hers, you pushed yourself out of the bed.
Going to the corner to put on some half decent clothing, not wanting to go out in your pyjamas.
Ramonda watched you as she pondered over the decades that you had just described.
Putting on your top, you slowly turned to leave the room, the tension building more than it ever had.
"Y/n wait!" Ramonda called out when she finally realised what you were doing.
It was too late though. You were out of the door, heading to the gardens outside.
You weren't very fast, so she easily caught up to you, making you feel even more embarrassed.
You turned a corner, and she continued to follow you. Up until you entered the garden and needed to sit down. On the bench.
"Ramonda, please just leave me to be alone."
"No, Y/n. I nearly lost you not even a few weeks ago, and then you sprung a confession out of nowhere that has led me to question many things. I won't leave you alone."
"Why do you even care so much? I apologised and explained that it was all adrenaline."
She got caught in her own words again, not knowing what to say to that. She sat down next to you, looking down.
"I care because the truth is that I love you too, Y/n." Ramonda whispered. You looked at her in shock. "I'm not sure for how long, or if it's been buried deep down for years since our young adulthood. It's all just so complicated."
"Ramonda." You interrupted her. "You loved T'Chaka. You can't deny that he was the love of your life. It's okay to admit that you don't have feelings for me. I'm not a fragile child anymore" you lied to her. Sure you weren't a child anymore, but you were just as fragile if not more. You knew that her rejection would break you but it was time. Over 40 years of waiting was weighing in on you.
"He might have been the love of my life, but he has never been my soulmate." She declared.
You let off a breath of disbelief.
She said, "You have always been the real soul that I was tethered to, Y/n."
"You're just saying that."
She took your chin in her hand, forcing you to look directly at her. "What will it take for you to see that I'm not lying. I love you with everything in me, Y/n."
Tears welled up in both of your eyes. It was like deja vu, crying together again.
Your heart was beating fast now, your body not knowing how to respond.
Ramonda hesitated, but brought her face close to yours, bringing her lips to brush yours softly, allowing you to rip away if you wanted to.
You didn't.
Instead, you let her kiss you. Her lips were soft, and she was trying to be delicate with you.
All of your emotion went into the kiss, the decades of longing for that very moment not being forgotten.
Ramonda came closer, bringing you in for an embrace as she let her lips depart from yours.
You reluctantly split, and laid your head on her shoulder, feeling like a school child. Tears slipped down, falling on Ramonda's back as she hugged you tighter.
"I have waited my whole life for this moment. But still. I'm scared, Ramonda." You were honest now, your fears of this all being too much coming up, while also being scared of none of it being real.
She caressed your back, coaxing you into letting the clearly pent up tears fall.
"I know, sthandwa. I'm scared too. But we're going to take this slowly. I promise."
Your journey took longer than most, and although it took such a long time and a lot of painful events to get there, you both couldn't help but think of the same thing.
'I'd do it all over again.'

Author's Note: And with that, a new character is unlocked for this account. I really hope that this was okay for those of you who were waiting so patiently.
I love you, all so much. I don't think you know how much I really mean it.
I'm off to sleep now. It's been a long week.
Have a good day.

You and Ramonda have always been close since you were kids in the river tribe. At some point during the friendship she had fallen in love with you and you did too but the romance was cut short when Ramonda found out she was being married off to the soon–to–be king, T’Chaka. It was a devastating moment for both of you. Before Ramonda left, she promised you she would never stop loving you and that she would always keep an eye on you and gave you one last kiss before boarding the ship. While her marriage with T’Chaka was arranged, she learned to love him but that love would never exceed her love for you.
♤♧♡♢
Years passed and Ramonda always found a way to see you, even if it was from afar. She always had a Dora watching you at all times to make sure you were safe. No one knew about you, only the Dora Ramonda sent knew about you and she made sure they wouldn’t say anything.
When she was told of her husband’s death she was devastated of course, but the first thing on her mind was you. She couldn’t let another person she loved to get killed, not under her watch. She thought the best way to keep you safe was to have you with her at all times, whether you liked it or not.
♤♧♡♢
Ramonda was in the throne room when she summoned the general of the Dora Milaje, Okoye.
“Kumkanikazi, you summoned me?”
“Yes, I need you to retrieve someone and I want you to be discreet.”
“Who am I retrieving?”
“I need you to bring me Y/n. She is in the river tribe. Do whatever you have to do but make sure no one sees you come in with her. When you do bring her here, take her to my private chambers. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes, yam Kumkanikazi.” Okoye bowed and left the throne room to retrieve you.
♤♧♡♢
You were in your room when you heard a knock at the door. When you opened the door you were greeted by whom you thought was a Dora Milaje.
“Um hi? How can I help you?”
“I’ve come to take you to the palace.”
“Says who?”
“I was given specific instructions to be discreet about this. So, I cannot say.”
“Well then I am not going anywhere,” you said firmly.
“Don’t make this harder than it has to be.”
“Goodbye,” you tried to close the door but Okoye put her spear in between the door and door frame so you couldn’t close it.
“What is your-” before you could finish your sentence you felt her place something on your temple and you blacked out.
♤♧♡♢
When you woke up, you found yourself laying on a giant bed in a very spacious room. You sat up confused about how you got there until all the memories from yesterday started flowing back. You in your room, the knock at the door, the Dora, and then all black. You started to panic but then the door to the room opened to reveal Ramonda.
“Ramonda? What's going on?” you asked in a panicked voice. She came closer and sat on the bed with her arms open for you to come closer. You, still confused, went to her embrace and felt a bit relieved.
“Calm down, ingelosi. I'm here to protect you.”
“Protect me? From who?”
“You know the people who killed T’Chaka?,” you nodded, “They are trying to take you away from me too,” she finished saying. She knew it was wrong to lie to you but she wouldn’t let you leave, she couldn’t. She pulled you impossibly closer to her and kissed your head.
“Who are those bad people?”
“You don’t have to worry about that anymore because you have me,” she pulled away and cupped your face, “and I have you right? You’re mine?” she asked, looking at you in the most loving way possible and you nodded again.
“Use your words, sithandwa.”
“Yes, I am yours,” you said with no hesitation. She smiled and gave you a long and passionate kiss, “All mine,” she mumbled in the kiss. She slowly started to push you to lay down on the bed while she got on top of you, all without stopping the kiss.
“Can I take this off honey?” she asked, referring to the green dress you were wearing. You nodded but she raised her eyebrow and you understood she needed verbal consent.
“Yes,” you said.
She started peeling the dress off of your body, taking her time and putting it aside. She caressed your body with her hands and started kissing each part she could find. She kissed your neck and your chest, before making her way down your body with her tongue. You had your eyes closed, loving every second of it.
When she got to where you needed her the most, she stopped which made you open your eyes. When you made eye contact, she licked a stipe up your pussy which made your release a loud moan. She kept licking your pussy and you threw your head back in pleasure. You felt yourself coming closer to the edge and your breath started to pick up.
“Ramonda- I’m close,” you said in an agitated voice, with your hands gripping the bed sheets.
“Are you going to cum for me, nkosazana?”
“Yes, yes. Please don’t stop.” She kept going and then inserted two fingers thrusting them fast, hitting your g-spot.
“Who do you belong to now, sithandwa? Hm?” you tried to respond but you were caught up in the immense amount of pleasure. When you didn’t respond she slowed down and you whined. She went up your body all the way to your ear.
“Tell me usana or ill stop altogether,” she whispered.
“You! You! I belong to you! Please let me cum, please?”
“Good girl,” she praised and sped up again. She went down again and started to suck on your swollen clit. That got you over the edge. She came up to your ear and whispered sweet nothings while still thrusting her fingers to let you ride your high. You closed your legs around her hand from the overstimulation.
“Is too much-” you whimpered. She pulled her hand away and shushed you with a kiss. You moved closer to her, laying your head on her chest.
“When will I be able to leave, Ramonda?” she tensed at your question.
“You can’t leave, ingelosi. How can I protect you if I don't have you by my side, hm? This is for your own good.”
“But-”
“But nothing. I can't lose you too.” That made you go silent for a second.
“I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked such a dumb question.” you kissed her neck.
“Shh, it's ok nkosazana. Get some rest, you're probably tired,” she said before kissing your forehead. You nodded and cuddled closer to her, hiding your face in her neck. Soon enough, you felt your eyes get heavy, the warmth of her body lulling you to sleep. She heard your soft snoring and she smiled knowing she finally had you all to herself.

and to the river she returns
lil snippet: "The tranquility of the Ancestral Plane was quickly overtaken by Shuri's heartache. Her pain was radiating out of her, piercing through the living dimension, and easily making its way into the ancestral, squeezing a tight hand around my heart. It was as if I could hear her screams and pleas for me. Even worse, I could feel her belief that I had forsaken her. For just a moment, I was sure I made the wrong decision. What kind of mother am I to leave my child to fall even further into the grief that had already been holding her with an iron grip?"

summary: Shuri is to be enthroned as Queen of Wakanda and doesn’t know if she will be able to bare the weight of the crown without her mother’s wisdom. She seeks out Riri’s guidance and warmth to thaw her frigid heart.

RIRI’S POV
I stared after her as she glided down the staircase. Shuri’s dress cascaded behind her like a black pool of water. It was made of the finest silks, held by gold rings and an encrusted black panther head with fangs on her chest. The dipped fang dangled in between her breasts against her bare skin. I tried to gulp down the lump in my throat, but my mouth became dry when I focused on the cutouts that exposed her dark skin. Okoye sure knew how to pick a dress. Shuri had tried her best to fight her way out of it, but it was clear that this was the dress. She had exclaimed that the outfit had fit too tight, too provocative, just too much for her. Yet as I watched her approach her subjects, all the nerves she had exhibited earlier were untraceable across Shuri’s posture. Her stride was regal, almost identical to Queen Ramonda. The people of Wakanda silently watched Shuri in awe. They had never seen the Princess in this light. No, not their Princess, their Queen. I was not able to be in attendance during Shuri’s inauguration amongst the Wakanda Council. Not only because I had school, but I wasn’t allowed. The ritual had been private, a sacred ceremony to officiate Shuri’s place on the Wakanda throne. Outsiders were not welcome. However, when Shuri insisted I attend the Public Crowning of the Wakandan Queen, I couldn’t refuse.
I stood off in the distance at the side of the balcony with Agent Ross to obtain the perfect view for the event. Out of sight from curious onlookers but close enough to make out every detail. M’Baku held the crown in his hands as if it was a delicate flower, and tiny beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he walked towards Shuri. He had argued with Okoye for days that placing the crown on Shuri’s head should be him. Shuri told me that he yelled at Okoye and told her “she hadn’t become the general again until a couple of weeks ago.” This struck a chord with the Dora Milaje, leading to both groups almost getting into a physical altercation. Shuri had to break it up in the end. They settled it over a coin toss. I couldn’t hold in my laughter at the audacity of it all when we’d been on the phone. Imagining the mighty M’Baku keeled over a coin in anticipation was enough to elicit a giggle out of her.
“I present to you, Shrui Udaku, the Queen of Wakanda.” As M’Baku gently settled the gold crown atop Shuri’s head as his voice boomed loudly across the silent crowd of Wakandans.

The sea of people began to bow down to one knee, row by row, like a wave. I was in complete awe to see the power that Shuri held. She was now the sole leader of a whole country. I fell to my knees but kept my head raised to see only Shuri left standing and staring at me. A hint of a smile on her lips. She was breathtakingly draped in black and gold. I couldn’t help but feel special amongst all the people in front of her. She chose to steal a glance at me before she bellowed for everyone to rise.
The Dora Milaje raised their spears, and the Jabari tribe beat their chests in triumph, celebrating the new ruler of Wakanda. Shuri placed her arms over her chest as an “X,” yelling, “Wakanda forever,” and it wasn’t until she did so that I saw the tears flow from her eyes. They were leaving a streak down her perfected makeup—a sign of the girl who had nearly lost everything.
Shortly after the public inauguration, I returned to Shuri’s headquarters, where I stayed for the week. Desperate to change out of my heels, I mindlessly flung them on the floor to walk barefoot on the black marbled floors. My feet instantly felt soothed by the contact of the cold tiles. The only sound echoing is the soft padding of the soles of my feet, walking to sit at Shuri’s vanity overlooking the city of Wakanda. Shuri’s room was quiet and sombre. I bet I could hear a pin drop. At times it felt surreal to be in Wakanda, miles away from the loud streets of Chicago and the MIT students' crowds. When I first met Shuri and Okoye, I had been ready to throw anything to keep them from taking me away from the familiarity of my dorms. Although it had been months ago, I could recall the memory like it was yesterday. One would find it difficult to forget. When I first set eyes upon Okoye, she appeared viperous and ready to strike at any moment’s notice. I’m still surprised I was able to gain her respect. Okoye does not offer that to just anyone. Then again, I’m astonished about many things that have occurred these past few months.
The sweltering heat and sun from the ceremony had caused my dress to stick uncomfortably against my skin. I desperately needed to change into an outfit that allowed me to breathe. I fumbled with the zipper behind my neck, and my fingers struggled to pull down the clasp lock that kept the fabrics mended together. I am to be a scientist, and I still couldn’t figure out the intricacies of a simple dress zipper. Midway through my struggle, I heard my phone ping from a text by Shuri. We had unique ringtones for each other.
Meet me in the lab.
I looked at the clock to see not much time had passed since the public inauguration. Shuri should have been on the road for the parade throughout the city. That was the plan; she shouldn’t be in the lab. I made my way to the familiar doors I’d entered countless times to find Shuri sitting on the floor. Her dress puddled around her in a great heap of black silk. Once we made eye contact, Shuri was unrecognizable. The gold crown was still pinned to her head, and Shuri’s makeup remained perfectly painted on her face regardless of the tear stains. It pained me to see the softness in her eyes become cold and void. I’ve wished to keep the tenderness alive within Shuri, but since the murder of her Mother, Queen Ramonda, she hasn’t been the same. Shuri had become quick to irritate and rash. She still refused to tell anyone about the family member she had encountered in the ancestral plane. I knew better than to ask. The question always triggered an argument.
“Shuri, what’s wrong? What are you doing here? You should be with your people.”
“You are my people. That’s why I called you.” Her eyes remained trained on the ground. I’m convinced her glare could bore a hole in the laboratory floor if she wished. I couldn’t find the words to respond, unsure if I should correct her or scold her that she knew what I meant when I first said it. Deciding to remain quiet and listen was a safer option; once Shuri overcame her grief and anger, it was best to stay silent. I lowered myself to the ground to sit patiently in front of Shuri. Finally, Shuri released her lips from the tight line to speak again.
“Bury your dead. Mourn your losses. You are Queen now. Those words have haunted me for days as a prophecy I wished would not come true. I walked down these hallways a million times, feeling like a ghost in a shell. My insides cried for anyone to reach out and extract the pain that held my heart. But, instead, I’ve spent the remaining months making myself digestible for others to the extent that I no longer know what is left of me.
“The tears that have escaped me since that day felt like they would choke the life out of my soul. I would force myself to scream out from the empty cavern of my chest, yet no matter what I do, it’s as if it will never end. I wake up overtaken by a body that no longer knows rest, Riri. I don’t know how to cultivate the strength to be a Queen for Wakanda.” Shuri’s voice remained bleak as she spoke. I noticed the changes that had come over Shuri for quite some time but did not dare to look deeper. It wasn't easy to find the right words to provide comfort.
“To understand the depths of mourning, you must know love. The feeling you are experiencing is your yearning for your Mother with nowhere to go. It’s the final act of love. But she is still a part of you. Although she may not be present in the physical plane, she lives on with your ancestors. Or at least, that’s what Okoye has told me. She was quite brief with answering my questions.”
“Okoye has time to talk to you about Wakanda history?” Shuri asked.
“She doesn’t. I annoy her enough until she spares me some details.” The comment gained a full smile from Shuri. Her body language shifted slightly to face me onward, our knees lightly brushing against each other. I took this as a chance to use the light fabric of her dress to dab at her wet eyes, careful not to smudge her mascara. Thankfully her dress was black, and the action didn’t ruin it.
“That’s the thing about grief. It’s messy, and it gets everywhere,” I whispered.
As I was about to retrieve my hand back to my side, Shuri grabbed it to encase it into her own. Her skin was soft and warm while she traced circles on the back of my hand. She’s held my hand countless times, but the way she grasped it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I didn’t have to look up to know that Shuri was now staring at me.
“I’ve prayed to feel a release, and at times it felt like no one was truly listening. So, Riri, I’m thankful I have you in my life, especially now when I need to bring myself back to Earth.”
“I think this is the first time you’ve admitted that you like me around.” Then, slowly raising my head, I offered Shuri a toothy grin.
“But there’s no need to thank me, that’s what friends are for!”
Shuri’s lips pursed when I said “friend,” as if the word tasted sour on her tongue.
“What? Did I say something wrong?” I felt worried that I may have ruined the moment. It wouldn't have been the first time. Shuri’s mood has been unpredictable, and I could never be sure what I might have said to trigger a reaction.
“No, not at all. It’s just…”
“Just what? Come on; you know that you can tell me anything.” Shuri broke eye contact to watch our intertwined hands, twiddling her fingers as she did so. She often did this when she was nervous or agitated. I wanted her to spit it out, but considering she finally stopped crying, I didn’t want to welcome another onset of tears.
“I don't want to ruin the friendship that we have together. Still, I want to be honest with you and myself. I like you, Riri, more than a friend. I’ve felt this way for a while now. I guess by saying this, I’m wondering if you feel the same way.” Shuri stumbled over her words. They all seemed to come out quickly and jumbled.
I wasn’t oblivious to how close Shuri and I had become. I held her down when she took the heart-shaped herb. I have never been much of a fighter, but I fought for her and would do it again if I had to. She never had to ask because I would always be there without a second thought or doubt. Thinking back, Shuri has done the same. I can’t remember a night without not talking to her on the phone. I never thought about her busy schedule as an upcoming Queen because Shuri made time to pick up my calls. The stolen glances and shy touches were not in vain. Shuri had become a part of my world. Of course, I felt the same way.
Wrapping my arms around Shuri, I brought her close to my heart and said just that. Her body fit perfectly against my own. As I held Shuri close to my chest, Shuri began whispering a song. I didn’t understand the Xhosa language but a deep understanding capsuled in my mind of memories that would never be erased. Almost ancestral to a place that I felt akin to. It offered a tiny bit of abreaction that denied us. I felt her breath on my neck as she sang; it left goosebumps and a fluttering feeling in my stomach. Numerous thoughts clouded my mind. The outstanding one was the desire and fantasy of what it’ll feel like to have Shuri’s lips against my own. However, this was not the time. Not when she had a duty to fulfill. As if the Universe had heard her, Okoye burst through the laboratory doors.
“What is the meaning of this? Queen Shuri, the people of Wakanda await.” Okoye’s eyes were ablaze, and darted between the two of them. I became increasingly aware of how we must’ve looked at that moment. I opened my mouth to say something, yet Shuri beat me.
“I’ll only go if Riri comes with me.”
I attempted to separate myself from Shuri, but she didn’t budge. Okoye looked as if she was at a loss for words. Unsure if she should risk her position to oppose the new Queen. When she didn’t immediately speak it felt like my heart would beat out of my chest. The seconds felt like hours as I watched Okoye’s face slowly morph into a soft expression.
“As you wish, my Queen,” she sighed.

Description: Anathi and the queen have arrived in Haiti a/n: mb yall...I meant to post this like 3 days ago... Warnings: mentioning past break up Word count: 1138
Chapter 1,
Chapter Two: Nakia, Daughter of Yaa
Anathi’s point of view
I was led into the throne room where Queen Ramonda and M’baku were seated.
“M’Bakuuuu.” I grinned, “Bagged the big dog huh?”
Ayo plucked the back of my head, “Shut up.”
“I’m just messing.” I chuckled, “Y’all all of a sudden can’t take a joke?”
“This is not the time for that, Anathi.” The Queen hushed me.
“What is it?” I scanned the room, “Where’s Shuri?”
“I’m sure you know already, Shuri’s been kidnapped.”
“Of-fucking-course she is.” I whispered under my breath, “What do you need me for?”
“I need you to retrieve her,” The Queen stood to her feet and slowly trotted towards me, her hands clasped together like my mother’s were a minute ago. “By any means necessary.”
“Have my mother do it.” I scoffed, “I have things to do.”
“You have no assignments for the next week.” She rested her hand on my shoulder, a small but fake smile on her face. Her grip tightened on my shoulder, I scrunch my face in disgust. Her eyes met mine, “I know you…care about my daughter-”
“I loved her.” I hissed, “You took her from me.”
“I did what was necessary to protect her.”
“Protect her from what?” I shifted my shoulder, knocking her hand away from me.
“You were not well then.” She said in a soft but assertive voice, the kind my mother used.
“Neither was she.” I snapped back, “None of us were.”
“Silence Anathi.”
“So you drag me here…in chains, insult me, yet beg for my help?” I chuckled and fiddled with my cuffs.
“Anathi, I wouldn’t have requested your presence if there were other options.”
“You’ve made that painfully clear.” I sighed, “When do I leave.”
The Queen looked somewhat shocked by my response, “In two days, we will fly to Haiti to retrieve Nakia then you two will leave.”
I shrugged, “Fine, but if she gets in the way-” I warned.
“She won’t.” M’baku chimed in, “I’m sure we won't have any repeats of that little incident.”
I glanced over at the fuzz-covered man, “Repeats of what M’baku?”
“Nevermind that.” Aneka leaped in front of me before I could say anything else.
Queen Ramonda waved her hand, “You are dismissed.”
I yanked my body away from Ayo and Aneka and stormed out of the throne room.
"I'll need a copy of the fight with my mother and these creatures," I spoke harshly as I rushed back to my room before tears could surface.
Queen Ramonda’s point of view
It came time to board the talon jet and Anathi was waiting in front of it, with two large duffel bags on either shoulder. She was dressed neatly in a skin tight suit that was similar to Nakia’s except her’s was a mix of gold and purple. She frowned when she saw me eyeing her outfit. Purple was not to be worn for today as respect to T’Challa.
“I don’t have anything else that’s not damaged.” She mumbled.
“I see.” I stopped and waited for her to board the jet. As she walked ahead of me I took note of the clanking and shuffling in her bag, “What did you bring with you?”
“I looked over some video footage of my mother fighting the fish people. They seem to have some indigenous descent. They were known for having incredible fighting skills, close to ours minus the tech advances.” She explained as we took flight.
“Which means?” I leaned down to closely observe what was in the bags as she opened them.
“I’m going to need larger blades, not sure which ones though.” She pulls out a few different swords and maces, “I couldn’t decide in time.”
I nodded and leaned back in my seat. I shut my eyes trying to relax before we reached Haiti. Praying to our gods that Shuri is safe and unharmed.
"I can't decide." Anathi says.
I only hummed back.
"I prefer small dual swords, good for close combat but-" She lifted a thin katana, "These will work best with his scythe as well."
"Dual swords, there are too many of them to fight with one sword alone." I chimed in before she could start rambling.
She nodded, "Seems like you know everything." She said in a joking yet serious tone.
My eyes flicked open to look down at her. She was squatting on the floor of the jet, hunched over her assortment of weapons. A focused and stressed look on her face. A face I remember all too well.
“You made her leave me?” She stood before me covered in sweat, her eyes pink from crying.
“Shuri is old enough to-”
“You told her to, I knew it.” She turned back to her sparring partner, aggressively fighting with tonfas. Her frustrated grunts turned into weeping as she continued to fight…
"Anathi." I called to her.
She only hummed.
"I'm sorry I influenced your breakup, but you know I was right."
"I know…" She whined.
"Then why do you-"
"I just miss her." She groaned, "I spent so much time with her for so long that without her I can't function."
"That is the problem, child." I said softly, "You should not depend on one person alone for happiness and peace."
She scoffed and rolled her eyes, "You sound like my mother."
"Maybe you should listen to her every once in a while."
"I don't need to." She stood up and placed her sheaths on her back, "I've heard it all before, 'I'm too weakminded' 'not ready' 'too hostile'" she recalled the insults with ease.
Her voice sounded a bit softer now, like she was on the brink of tears.
Anathi placed a set of knives into either of her boots that then retracted to match her suit.
"Your mother only wants what's best for you."
"Sure." She chuckled to herself and set her assortment of weapons back in their respective bags.
>Queen, we have arrived in Haiti<
Nakia's point of view
Toussaint and his group of friends rushed towards the center of the school to play followed by giggles and loud French-Haitian. I turned to face one of the older students, "Alors expliquez-moi comment vous- (so tell me how you-)"
"Mère! (Mother-)" A voice called out which I knew as my son's. I swiftly turned back to the group to see them missing from the courtyard. My eyes frantically scanned the school until my eyes landed on a familiar face.
"Bonjour." The woman said.
"Ikumkani wam. (My queen)" I slightly bowed, noticing another set of feet a few steps behind her. I straightened my back and watched the second woman approach me, Anathi.
Anathi, I haven't seen her in years. What has happened since I've been gone?
The queen gave me a somber look before speaking, "Nakia, I hate to disturb you at such a peaceful time but we need your help."
"Anathi…needs my help?" I chuckled, "What's going on?"
The queen took a deep breath, “Shuri has been kidnapped.”
Shit.

you walk back and forth, practically pacing, from outside the long doors in front of the lab, your mind reeling. you couldn’t even believe it— the queen, the black panther, your wife injured on a mission. your hands were shaking, how could this even happen? shuri had looked so pained when she came through the front room doors, limping, and immediately asking the dora milaje to hold you back, as shuri knew better than anyone how quick you were to react.
and hold you back they did— you already fighting them with all the strength you had and yelling that you’re the queen too and you deserved to see your wife, to tend to her before anyone else, but they were stronger than you in most ways. aneka looks at you with her deep eyes, “please, your highness, calm down, she’ll be fine,”
and you fight back, “i should be there with her! let me through—!” and you try to barricade through them once more before they tackle you again, and you struggle against them. after a while you had calmed down and most of the dora milaje retreated to the lab to help shuri but even now in front of the lab doors stood two dora, their spears ready to attack.
your head was hurting as you paced back and forth waiting for something — anything — to know she was was okay. shuri was having such an intense last couple of weeks, this truly being the first time she was both queen and black panther and it’s taken a toll on her, you could tell. deep circles were around her eyes and most nights you’d go to bed alone, her coming in around 3 am just to wake up bright and early at 7 and barely sleep. you had your own diplomatics to deal with too, making sure all the affairs were in order before she left and it took so long, you spent most of the day in your office and the throne room before you got off at 6, always missing shuri and she always missing you.
when you two were together it was always brief. small moments in the garden on your lunch or stolen kisses right before she departed wakanda only to return nearly 14 hours later. then the people of wakanda looked to you as well— while shuri was gone you were entirely in charge. walking the kingdom and taking care of small disputes best you could, but still, it was a lot for you both.
you’re whispering prayers to Bast, just hoping nothing is fatal or too deep that she’s injured forever, and suddenly the large white doors open, and it’s aneka smiling at you, and you let out a sigh of relief and practically run past her.
doctors, many of the elder tribe leaders, and even m’baku are still surrounding shuri when you come in but they make way for you as you nearly tackle her on the lab bed she’s on. a couple of “careful!”’s are said but you can only hear shuri’s laugh, and a small groan in pain as you hug her tightly, the tears you had outside already spilling over.
you pull back and grab her face, “please, please, please don’t scare me like that ever again, shuri. i thought— i thought—” and you could barely get it out, the words ‘i thought i lost you’ staying behind in your throat but shuri looks at you with a deep, fond gaze that says “i know you did, but you won’t and never will,” you smile slightly, stroking her face in your hands and kissing her all over and she laughs, holding your waist and drawing you close.
“i think,” m’baku’s deep voice breaks you two up, “the black panther needs to rest with her wife, hmm? even with all your nano tech and whatnot, an injury like that, you need a couple of days,” and elders murmur in agreement and you nod along. shuri speaks up though, “the mission. i have failed them if i don’t go back,” she says and you look at her again, she sounded so finite about, your eyebrows furrow.
“no, you have not, my queen,” says the leader of the river tribe, “we can handle it from here, call nakia up to keep the trail hot,” shuri frowns, “nakia has to care for someone, she won’t be able to go. i am fine, let me—”
your voice cuts hers, “shuri. no.” she stills, much does everyone because they can tell it’s not a suggestion. “you are injured. you can barely walk, and i have never seen you like that before. and when one queen is inept to make the decisions the other steps in,” shuri gapes at you, mouth ready to retort, before you add, “i support the notion of giving the black panther a week of rest, nothing less. should she step foot in this lab or reach for her necklace, the dora milaje will do their best to stop her,”
the elders look around, murmuring, before m’baku speaks first, “i mean, cmon, it’s her wife.” he laughs a bit before adding, “you have the jibari tribe behind you in this notion. i also submit my services to stopping the black panther at all costs,” he chuckles a bit and you whisper an “ey,” and cut your eyes at him.
you hear shuri smack her lips once the other elders agree to your request and you nod, “it’s settled. m’baku, handle the most recent hostage situation best as possible. take ayo with you and listen to everything she says,” you hear m’baku grumble as ayo tries to hide her laugh.
“i need the rest of you to watch our boarders and city waters. many families have had irrigation problems because of the dry season, causing wild life to attack their farms so keep an eye out, and bring water to those in need,” the leaders nod out, “yes my queen,” to you and walk off before you sigh and lift shuri’s head up,
“and you,” you say sweetly and shuri blinks up at you with tired eyes, but still looks at you as if you hung the moon yourself, “yes, my love?”
“you,” and you kiss her on every word, “are going to relax and get some rest,” you say and sit next to her again and she sighs, eyes closing slightly. you know what she’s going to say, you see it in her face.
“i.. i miss him,” she whispers when you two are finally alone and you rub her hands in yours, kissing her knuckles, “i know, sthandwa, i know,” you bite your lip, not wanting to say what you do, but you decide to anyway,
“you could talk to him, yknow.” shuri sighs and shakes her head, “last time… he wasn’t — he wasn’t there. he doesn’t want to speak to me,” she whispers the last part and you retort completely, grabbing her face and making her look at you, “shuri, no, no. don’t you ever say that. t’challa — he loved you so, so much, of course he’d want to speak to you, he’d be more than happy to see his sister.”
her eyes are threatening to spill over and you rub your thumbs against her cheeks and sigh, “my love, you are so strong. but asking for help, wanting some, is not the weakness you take it to be. you know that, i know you do.” you whisper and kiss her forehead and she hold your hands in yours, taking deep breaths to calm down.
you look back into her eyes and she’s smiling slightly, you know she’s still sad but you can tell her body is fighting exhaustion and not allowing her to feel her emotions completely. you step down from the bed and extend your hand, “cmon. i’ll run you a bath, get you cleaned up, yeah?” and shuri nods, and you help her get down, holding her waistline and she holds on to your shoulders, leaning on you for support.
aneka is at the lab entrance, waiting to assist in anyway, and you tell her, “let m’baku know the queens’ kimiyo beads will be off for the rest of the evening. emergencies only,” and she nods, as you and shuri walk to your bedroom.
Tumblr media
the bath will do shuri some good, you decide, touching the water and adding some bath salts to help her skin relax. she’s in the master bedroom, taking off the underarmour she wears under her black panther suit and even though you are married, sneaking a hidden look at your naked wife has you blushing and turning away.
most of her injuries are dressed and nearly healed once shuri steps in the bathroom, still limping some and her hair out from its original cornrows. she sighs and comes up behind you, swaying you slightly and you lean against her, you both watching the bath fill up with bubbles and water.
“what did i do to deserve you,” shuri sighs into your neck and you chuckle slightly, “i should be the one to say that. i went from farmer to queen in nearly two years, im still wrapping my head around it.” she kisses your neck and rubs your arms, “i saw you and thought you deserved it,” she murmurs and you giggle, pushing her off you, “nope, no, go get in your bath, no sex for you, go,”
she huffs slightly, taking off her robe and stepping in before wincing, “you’re trying to burn me more, ikumkani wam? this is scolding,” shuri complains and you roll your eyes and help her sit down, “the hot water will relax your muscles, now come sit, let me wash your hair,” and she huffs again, but listens.
you two hadn’t had a moment like this in so long, you realize, squeezing some shampoo on your hands and you tell her, “we haven’t done anything like this in a while, huh? it’s nice,” your murmured and get a soft response in return, and you laugh, right. shuri always went to sleep when you washed her hair, your hands working diligently, your nails scraping against her scalp and she leans back into your knees.
you can see her eyes closing, and you smile sadly at just how much you see she needed this, her entire body looks like it’s recharging in the bath, and her breathing slow and deep. you whisper, “lean back, entle, let me rinse your hair,” and shuri is completely complacent, murmuring and moving slowly, as you tilt her head back and run warm water down her scalp.
shuri’s definitely asleep by the time your putting in her conditioner and giving her some two strand twists, her entire head sloped against your knee. you find a head wrap in the nearby drawers and kiss her cheek once your done to wake her up and she mumbles. you whisper, “cmon let me wash you, love,” and she’s blinking awake as you climb into the bath and grab a rag and rub all over her.
shuri looks at you fondly, watching you avoid her open wounds and wash softly over the wrapped ones, even whispering a small apology when she winces slightly, all the way until your rinsing her off and wrapping a bathrobe against her and climbing out first to help her get out after you. you unplug the drain and grab some lotions and gauze to rebandage her wounds once in the bedroom.
you sit her down, handing her the cocoa butter and cream as you work your way up her wounds starting with her legs. you start, “what do you want for breakfast tomorrow?” you whisper and look up and shuri is staring back at you with such deep love and appreciation, that it makes you blush. you two have been together for more than three years now and she can still look at you as intensely as she did that first night you met her.
“shuri,” you whisper and she blinks, snapping out of her trance, “yes? i’m sorry whatd you say?” shuri says honestly and you giggle, wrapping one more gauze before sitting next to her and smiling, “what do you want me to make for breakfast tomorrow my love? we’ve got a week and i want to spend it doing all the things we’ve missed,” you say a little sadly and shuri laughs to herself, “why worry about tomorrow, we’ve got plenty we can do right now,” and her hand slides up your thigh and you roll your eyes, slapping her hand slightly. you know it doesn’t hurt her, but she still winces like it does.
“no sex, i mean it. i want your body to relax, sithandwa, okay?” and she sighs and nods, thinking. “i don’t even know to be honest, y/n, i’m so exhausted,” she finally admits and you laugh, “yes i know my love, let’s get some rest, yeah?”
shuri nods and you hand her the large shirt she normally wear to bed and cut off the lights and lay back down. shuri finds you in the darkness, completely wrapping herself over you and whispering, “ulihlabathi lam lonke sithandwa,”
you smile deeply, before sleep washes you both over and you close your eyes.
Tumblr media
you wake up first, the small vibrations from your kimoyo beads shaking your arm, making you turn your alarm off. you check the time, just barely 9 am, and look over. you smile and see shuri, sleeping still so peacefully, her breathing slow. you reach over and adjust her head wrap before it falls off and sit up and stretch.
you check any of the emergency messages shuri may have gotten on her kimoyo beads and all you see is a lovely picture from nakia and her beautiful son, captioned, ‘hope to see you soon, auntie :)’ and smile, before closing the screen and stretching again, beginning to prepare for the day. you put your slip dress on and some house shoes before going to the other side of the bed and kissing shuri’s cheek.
her reflexes wake her up slightly, and you hear her grumble as you giggle, “no no, go back to sleep. don’t wake up i was just saying good morning, my love, that’s all. rest,” you whisper and she laughs a little too, “good morning to you, too,” before sighing and turning over. you walk away to the kitchen and wrap your hair up in a bun to get started.
you prepare some biscuits first, kneading dough and buttering up some pans before slicing up some pork pieces and peppers. you’ve been cooking your whole life, memories of making breakfast for your family with your mother flood your mind as you move around the kitchen. you smile to yourself, as you completely involve yourself in the food, playing some music softly.
after about 2 hours, everything’s just about done. the eggs cook last, of course, as you chop up some fruit and your beloved comes to the kitchen, her black pajamas on and twists out. shuri looks well rested and so much healthier compared to last night that it makes you smile.
“well good morning, again, love,” you say, still chopping fruit and she comes behind you, her favorite place to be, and smiles a “good morning,” into your neck, kissing there and rubbing up your sides. you chuckle to yourself, you know she’s pent up, hell, you are too, but you had a plan for that so you wiggled your shoulders, “no, we’ll eat first okay?” you say and turn to her and sighs again like last night and steals a strawberry from off your cutting board. you smack your lips at her and pinch her hip as she walks away laughing and starts setting the table.
you grab all the dishes you can, first the potatoes and pork first, and asking shuri to grab the rest of the eggs and biscuits and grits, placing everything just like your mother had always told you to. you take a step back and look at your work and smile, and shuri comes to your side, “i know you do, so, you want a picture?” and you laugh and ready your kimoyo beads and snap a quick picture.
you let shuri sit first and she looks at you confused, “what—” and you sigh, “i’m making your plate, go and sit,” and she laughs, “i guess i should get hurt more often,” she says and you glare at her before shuri puts her hands up, “a joke, sthandwa, i’m joking,” she laughs at your eyes, which are still cutting at her while you gather her food. “yeah, you better be,” you say back.
once her plate is full you set it down and she looks at you like you’re about to get married to her again, “i love you so much, this looks so amazing,” she murmurs out and you laugh and kiss her curls, smelling the shampoo you used last night and smiling. you set your plate next and sit next to her, praying a small thank you to Bast and beginning to eat.
you and shuri eat in a comfortable silence for nearly fifteen minutes before you both start to get full and make conversation. you start, “i have a full day of activities planned for us today, usana, i’m really excited.” she lifts her eyebrow at you to continue as she finishes her biscuit, all the food on her plate nearly gone.
you do, “first, we need to go to the market for some fresh meat for dinner tonight. i wanted to try and perfect my jambalaya. and then i thought we could go to the garden and relax, sort of meditate and read a bit, and finish the day strong with dinner and.. maybe, some time alone.” you try to whisper the last part to hide yourself but shuri catches it all and smiles.
“well seems like you’ve got it all planned out. i’ll follow your lead, sthandwa, im excited.” she sounds so sincere and infatuated with you, it makes you blush. how crazy is it that, as long as you’ve been together, she can still make you feel like it’s the first date all over again. you shy up and stand, taking her plate with yours to wash it. shuri beats you to it, “no, no, i got it, go get ready for the day,”
you look at her and sigh, pulling her down for a kiss, and she grins into it much like you do, and pull away saying, “ndiyakuthanda,”
shuri smiles harder at you and repeats it for your ears only as if you’re the only person who supposed to hear it. and you know you are.
Tumblr media
you lay in the bath and you hear shuri singing to herself slightly down the hall as she washes the dishes. you can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of joy for the time you’ve spent with her, even just one morning feeling positively heavenly.
your kimoyo beads go off under the water, and it’s m’baku, a text that reads, ‘the hostages have been brought back home. ayo has talked my ear off, please send aneka to retrieve her.’ and you laugh slightly as shuri walks in, “what’s funny, my love?” you turn to her, “m’baku and ayo working together, he says she talked his ear off,” shuri smiles too and being to underdress and now you’re not laughing.
“what’re you doing?” you ask, smirking at her and trying to keep your eyes on her face as more and more of her tattooed skin comes into view, “repaying the favor. you wash me, i do the same, yeah?” she whispers back and before you can retort she’s already stepping in and you laugh as she winces, much like last night, “darling, you’re going to burn your skin off, Bast, this is ridiculous,” she mumbles as she sits down and you smile, leaning against her chest.
she rubs your skin up and down under the hot water and you sigh, holding one of her hands against you. “i’ve missed you,” you whisper, and she nods against you, tilting your head to look at her, “i’ve missed you, too,” she whispers right back, and kisses you sweetly and gently like you’re the softest thing in the universe. you moan softly, turning your head to give her better access and water moves around you both, most of the bubbles now gone.
you feel the hand that was holding you chin slowly go down your chest, moving right on top your clit and you huff, pulling away from her mouth and she shushes you, adding more pressure with her two fingers and circling your clit and you moan, “haaaa, shuri,” you’re whispering like someone will come in and she kisses against your cheeks holding you down with the other hand.
shuri whispers in your ear, “you’re so beautiful, my love. i’m so glad to call you mine,” you moan again, feeling that heat pool downstairs and your legs try to close to avoid it but shuri’s talking in your ear again, “no, darling, keep them open let me see you, it’s alright,” and you sigh and open your legs again, always giving into shuri completely. she thanks you and you feel your body get warmer, the water moving against your pussy in tandem with shuri’s fingers and you buck, your orgasm washing over you suddenly.
“ha, oh, ohhh i’m cumming, shuri, shuri—” and she’s encouraging you all the way, whispering praises in your wet skin and still moving her fingers against you, until you’re whining in overstimulation and she stops, kissing your neck and rubbing your stomach and legs. you sigh out and completely turn over and kiss her, water spilling over a bit, ready to return the favor and she smiles, shaking her head, “we’ve got to go to the market, remember? we’ll finish later, okay?” she says and you blink, still dazed from your orgasm but you nod and she picks up a rag to start washing you both.
once you’re both clean, you get out and lather up with some cocoa butter and oils, you laying your edges and shuri fixing up some of her curls. you wear your favorite loose dress, it ties right on your hips and gives you some decent cleavage and shuri puts on a matching track suit and grabs your hand as you exit the room.
walking towards the throne room you see aneka there waiting patiently, “my queens, are we departing? should i tell anyone?” and you both shake your head, “we’re just going to the markets, aneka, no need for royals of any kind.” you say sweetly and she nods, tapping her spear against the hard concrete, opening the doors and escorting you both out.
being on wakandan streets made you nostalgic, not having really been outside that often since marrying shuri and becoming queen. shuri sees it on your face; the warmth of familiarity bringing a pleasant and beautiful grin on you, “you miss it, my love?” she says as you look at the shops.
you sigh and face her, “a bit. it mostly reminds me of my mother. but even when we were dating i just miss having the time like this— to wonder about and look, just you and i,” you say taking her hand and she smiles at you, kissing your forehead as you make your way to your first shop.
the woman smiles, “ikumkani wam, what can i get you, dear?” and you smile back, “no need for royalties, auntie, i just need some peppers and rice, and if you have any strawberries that’d be great too,” you say glaring at shuri since she had eaten your entire freshly picked batch this morning and she puts her hands up in surrender, laughing as she walks around to another shop.
she packs up the ingredients for you and you thank her as you watch shuri come skipping back to you and smiling, her hands behind her back. you raise an eyebrow, “what’ve you gotten now?”
“nothing, nothing, don’t worry about it,” she says all too fast and you sigh, shaking your head, knowing it’s some expensive gift she’ll probably give you later. shuri had a habit of doing that, buying you some gold or jewelry or accessories you didn’t necessarily need but she knew they’d look darling on you. and, well of course they did, but you had always encouraged her to not spend so much on you. “you are my greatest gift,” you had told her countless times, “i need nothing more.”
and yet, she persisted.
you’d given up trying to stop her long ago as shuri was just as stubborn as always. you walked up to your next shop, talking to the young man there and asking for the pounds of meat you needed, thank him as he went to cut. shuri comes to your side, “it’s not jewelry, if that makes you feel better,” she whispers lightly, you can feel her smirk.
you’re curious now, “more waist beads?” and she shakes her head, “oh, really? i don’t know you to buy anything else. what is it?” the man comes back with the pork and chicken you needed and you thank him as shuri whispers, “i don’t want to spoil the surprise, love,” and you gruff, “i know you better than all, shuri, you cannot surprise me.” you say proudly and she smiles walking side by side with you and shrugs,
“maybe i can,” you glare at her, now more curious than ever. but she might be playing with you, just to throw you and actually pull out waist beads after dinner and you chuckle to yourself. the rest of the trip is filled with small banter and shopping, both you and shuri just happy to spend this time together.
once back home, shuri insisted to move the meditation in the garden to tomorrow, which causes you to lift up your eyebrow once you set your groceries down in the kitchen. “why, have you got something planned?” and she smiles, helping you unpack and she comes to your ear, “i need all the hours in the night for you so after dinner it’ll just be you and i, alright?”
‘all the hours in the night,’ echoes in your forehead and you feel some heat pool at the bottom of your stomach, and you exhale quietly and nod, “alright,” you whisper back and she kisses your neck, rubbing your arms and she walks away, the bag holding your surprise in her hands.
you stand at the sink, still slightly breathless, whew. you had forgotten how shuri can get, so sensual and so intense, that it didn’t cross your mind that she might have plans tonight along with yours. your mind reels as you try to figure out what her surprise could be while you think of yours.
you and shuri had had a loving sex life, nothing too intense and always so satisfying, shuri always willing to try whatever you wanted and you right behind her, listening to her suggestions and smiling at her when she comes to shy and asks if you can try something new. but even then, you knew what the other liked— shuri loved you in lingerie and all the jewelry she bought, she liked taking all the time in the world with you so the ‘all the hours in the night’ hadn’t surprised you one bit; ever the romantic, she lets nothing come between your love making and she swears by it, even going as far as taking off her kimoyo beads and shutting them down at one point.
you loved everything about her but during sex you absolutely loved when she lost herself in you, letting down every single guard she had and completely unraveling because of you. she’s always so tense, ready for any and everything at all costs so to see her completely relax and let go while with you makes your mind nearly explode.
but even then, what could she possible have that would surprise you? you shake your head, looking at the time. 5:54, might as well start on dinner.
Tumblr media
you sigh once dinner is ready, your eyes watering a bit from the peppers and spices, but it’s done regardless and you step back and take another picture and immediately send it to your mom, proud of your work. you cover the pot and walk to the bedroom to get shuri but instead are greeted with a lingerie set, a white frilly bra and underwear set, complete with ribbons and lace, and a silk, black dress that sits next to a perfume bottle.
you roll your eyes once you see a note with shuri’s handwriting on it, “surprise, my love.” you read and sigh again, taking off your apron and under clothes and putting on the set. you walk to the bathroom and see yourself in the mirror, damn, it’s perfect. the dress itself is damn near see through and the bralet and underwear hug your body beautifully, the ruffles practically shiny against your skin and blush, almost too nervous to show shuri. you spray some of the perfume on, inhaling and smelling, vanilla and shea butter, and you smile. it’s the perfume you wore on your first date. i can’t believe she remembered something like that, you think to yourself. you get one last of yourself in the mirror and fix your hair a bit, laying your edges down once more before walking out.
you see shuri in the kitchen wearing a white fitted suit, and she’s adjusting her cufflinks when your speak up, “okay, i admit it, you surprised me.” you say laughing and she turns to face you and she gasps slightly, you can see her gaze darkening as she takes you all in, “you look beautiful, sthandwa, you captivate me,” and you smile and shy up and decide to walk off, “let’s sit yeah?” you say and shuri laughs, and follows you to make her plate as well.
you both make your plates and sit down once more like this morning, making small conversation, but you can’t help but feel a light sense of arousal, as you know what’s about to happen. you two haven’t made love in so long and the thought of her being inside you for hours has you crossing your legs as you can barely speak to her, muttering out small responses before she notices and lifts your chin to make eye contact, “y/n, you know i absolutely love you and your food but i feel confident in saying we’re both too distracted to eat right now, yeah?” you nod, hanging on her every word, “why don’t we just go to bed then?”
you let out, “yeah,” completely breathless and she leans in to completely cover your mouth, feeling her lips move against yours and it makes you moan, wrapping your arms around her and sighing, your brain fogging up and moving against her like it’s a second nature, because at this point it is.
she stands you both up slowly, keeping your mouths connected and holding your waist, drawing you close as you feel her tongue enter your mouth and explore. you gasp slightly, god, you missed this, missed it so much, youre holding on to her like you’re about to drown. shuri pulls away slightly, a small line of spit still keeping you both connected and you whine, she shushes you, “i’ve got you, shh, it’s alright, let’s go to bed, yeah?” and you nod and follow her, holding her hand and looking at her as if she’s taking you to bed for the first time again.
she captures your mouth again, now against the bed and you moan, opening up to her completely as she rubs down your sides, slipping her hands under your lingerie and you gasp. “shuri, cmon, please,” you whisper and she nods, and once you get a good look in her eyes you can tell she’s just as desperate as you are, if not more, and you think about the three times you denied her last night alone. she practically lays you down and climbs on top of you and attacks your neck.
you tilt your head and give her total access and she whispers, “you smell so good, love,” and you moan out a laugh, “i have you to thank, dear. how’d you even find that—!” you can’t even finish your question as shuri has completely lifted your dress, sliding her hands against your breasts and sucking hickeys into your skin. you moan out her name and lift your back so she can take off the bra which she does in one swift movement.
she sucks on one of your nipples as you moan and squirm, the foreplay alone making you already feel like you’ve ruined your underwear with your slick. shuri reaches down and palms you through your underwear and you throw your head back, gasping. oh, she’s being so mean, you think, and groan in frustration as you feel yourself growing more and more frustrated.
shuri picks up on this, “you want more, my love?” and you nod, bucking you hips against her hand to symbolize where you need it, and she smiles, “of course,” she whispers and finally, finally, she’s face to face with your heat, covered by the panties that are soaked beyond recognition. she moves the underwear aside, not completely taking them off, and the cool air of the room hits your lips causing you to moan breathless, any friction or stimulation driving you crazy.
shuri curses out lowly, before placing a kiss on top of your pussy. your hips stutter slightly and she laughs a bit, before going back to kissing your lips and licking up all your slick. you moan aloud, “yes, yes, please, please don’t stop—” so happy to finally have some stimulation on you and shuri sighs against you, taking all of you in and moaning like your the best meal she’s ever had. you grab the silk sheets from under you and toss your head back before shuri pulls away slightly, stopping all contact.
you don’t even say anything but your hips are being raised and shuri is practically ripping off your underwear to have better access to your entire pussy and she goes back into you completely, kissing you thighs and sucking on your clit, wasting no time. you jolt, “oh, fuck! haahhh, shuri, shuri, shuri—”
it’s perfect, you moan aloud, shuri is so perfect, the poor sheets evidence, you could hear them practically ripping as your orgasm approached, shuri’s mouth working you through it. you try to move away from her, not wanting the night to be over, god, you wanted her for hours and hours, just like she promised, but you felt it, your whole body becoming hot.
shuri holds your legs open, not letting you up, even though you warn her, “sthandwa, i’m cumming, i’m cumming—!” but she hums around your pussy, acknowledging you but not stopping. you feel it, your entire body opens up and your back arches, you feel your clit pulsing under her lips, and she keeps sucking, you whine high pitched as your orgasm racks through your body. you feel your pussy clench around nothing and shuri pulls away, gasping and her chin wet.
you sigh, legs falling open, as shuri kisses up your legs and stomach, moving your dress around until she reaches your mouth to kiss you and you taste yourself and moan, rubbing her shoulders and coaxing her out of her suit as she twists to get it off as well. she moans against you, pulling away slightly and she whispers, “you taste amazing, love,” and you smile, “your turn?”
she laughs, “you sound eager about that,” she says and you nod and sit up leaning her down, “i want to take care of you tonight, usana, you deserve it, yeah? can you lay down for me?” and shuri nods, semi breathless, as you sit on top of her taking off her clothes, and kissing all her skin.
she sighs softly, “you always take care of me, love. so good for me,” and she’s watching you work down her body until you get to her pussy, already leaking. you sigh, “so pretty, shuri,” and she laughs a bit too, before gasping as you kiss her lips, much like she did you, before opening her legs and licking around her, completely swallowing everything she moans and sighs out praises, “you’re so amazing, my love, take such good care of me, don’t you?”
you moan, pushing your clit against the sheets as you work on shuri; her praises have always turned you on, the way she sounds, the way she speaks, it’s always been your favorite part of her and doing things like this. you zone out entirely, only hearing how shuri’s pussy sounds and how heavenly her praises sound.
she moans a bit, holding onto the hands you had against her abdomen, “y/n, love, i’m cumming, you’re so good, making me cum, aren’t you darling, haaa, fuck, fuck—” and you feel it, her whole body jerks up and you feel her pussy release in your mouth, moaning along with her. you sigh and pull your mouth away and she sits up entirely, pulling you for an incredibly sloppy kiss, sighing deeply into your mouth and holding you close. you pull away first and smile, “good?” you whisper, and she shrugs, “i still wanted to fuck you properly, love. it’s not even that late to stop now, yeah?”
you look at the time, it was nearly 10 o’clock. normally you’d both have so many things to do in the morning that you’d both be scrambling to rush to go to sleep and wake up bright and early but with this week off, you laugh and agree, “okay, whatever you want,” you whisper back against her and she smiles, kissing you lightly before jumping up to the closet, getting her strap.
you lay back down, sighing, your whole body blooming. this time with shuri has got you giggly and practically high, as you feel yourself laughing once she comes back, boxers on and strap in hand. “you alright, love?” she says stroking your face while she’s at the edge of the bed and you sigh, looking up at her, “i just.. i love you so much. i’m so happy we’re finally spending some time together is all. i really missed you, shuri,” you admit, your eyes wet suddenly and she smiles at you and leans down to capture your mouth,
“i missed you more, sithandwa, you have no idea,” and you nod and agree, you probably didn’t have any idea, you really didn’t see shuri during this month at all, so who knows how deep her longing went for you. as she’s grabbing the lube and adjusting herself, you say softly, “show me,”
she looks up at you, curious, “what do you mean?” and you move slightly, trying to avoid her intense gaze as she strokes herself, “show me how much you missed me. make me feel it,”
and shuri smiles to herself a bit, opening your legs up slightly, and pushing the strap against your lips, the lube and your cum combining, “oh i intend to, my love, all. week. long.” she whispers back at you and you gasp, not even being to retort before you feel her push inside, the strap opening you up completely and you toss your head back with a breathless moan, “oh, shuri—!” you drag out her name as your eyes shut, feeling her practically push in your pelvis. she leans down to kiss you again and you wrap your arms around her, tears threatening to spill as you feel her, all of your wife, inside you.
your mind is completely broken, shuri, shuri, shuri— she’d completely captivated you. her mouth working against yours along with the feel of her abdomen practically kissing your clit has you nearly thoughtless. she pulls away, watching you intently, “you said anything i want, right, sthandwa?” and you mumble not holding eye contact, had you said that? you literally can’t remember, her dick taking over all your senses.
shuri kisses your cheeks, “i want you all night, okay? can you hold out for me?” and you moan and nod, wanting to do nothing but please her. she whispers an ‘i love you,’ into your skin and leans away from you to pick up your legs and slowly pull out and push back in.
you moan aloud, grabbing the sheets once more and shuri coaxes you through as you toss your head back and flex your thighs against her, body convulsing as her thrusts get faster and harder, barely letting you adjust. you’re nearly completely screaming now, haven’t been fucked like this in so long. you didn’t care if you woke the entire nation, the love of your life was finally, finally, making love to you for the first time in nearly months.
your body catches up to you though, before you’re even ready to accept it. your pussy clenches around shuri, and you whine, “oh, my love, i’m cumming, i’m cumming, please shuri, make me cum, uhhhnnn—” and she’s encouraging you with those lovely lovely praises again, “go ahead, my love, that’s it, baby, cum for me, be my good girl and cum,”
it’s all you need. your pussy squeezes and you feel your thighs tremble as you let go entirely, clit pulsing and your pussy completely sucking shuri in, and you moan unabashedly, feeling your back arch. when it’s over and your body settles, you nearly double over, so breathless and twitching. shuri pulls out to kiss you and sooth over your legs, before you feel her moving you slightly. you mumble, still fucked out from your orgasm and she kisses against you, “on your stomach for me, my love, can you move?” and oh god, she wants to go again.
you twitch and huff, still feeling your pussy leaking but you had promised her, whatever she wanted. you moan out a small ‘yes,’ and lay on your stomach, poking your butt out like you knew she liked, your head laying on your soft shared pillows.
shuri kisses down your back, “thank you, my intombi elungile, you’re so good for me, yeah?” she says, rubbing your pussy with two fingers, moving your cum around and feeling your clit with her thumb, you jerk, moaning at the overstimulation, “shh, baby, i know. just relax, i’ll be inside you soon enough, let me feel you, love,” she saying it all sweet but you feel tears spike your eyes, she was so cruel to you, knowing your pussy was overstimulated.
shuri kisses your butt and keeps you open as she plays with your clit and you buck, “i’m cumming, shuri, shuri—!” and you’re on your forearms now, moaning and grabbing at pillows, when you feel it, your third orgasm for the night racking through your body, making you whine and pull away from her fingers but she holds you open, watching your pussy twitch and shake, encouraging you all the way. “good girl, thank you baby, let it all out,” and you moan on top of her words.
you huff, feeling her come behind you and grab your throat lightly and kissing your cheeks, whispering thank you’s. you whine against her once you feel her strap move towards your pussy again, and she sighs, “open up for me, my love. be my good girl, okay?” and you moan and nod, her praises in your ear are all you need to keep going.
and once more, shuri’s fucking into you again, her skin slapping against the softness of your backside, making you twitch and grip the sheets. holy fuck, she was pent up, you recognized, and you couldn’t help but let the tears you had been holding spill out, your pussy feeling spent and full. shuri didn’t let up though, even though she heard your wet gasps and saw your nearly bucking back, she whispers again, “it’s alright love, i know you can take it, let it out,”
your moans change in tone again and you can’t even fathom what orgasm you’re on now, but you feel it approaching— it’s a low buzzing in your veins that sparks your brain. your mouth is drooling and you’ve given up on speech entirely as she fucks into you, harder and harder and harder.
shuri knows you’re cumming, however— she’s known your body like the back of her hand for a while now so she does was she does best: talking you through it and helping you get there. she uses her left hand to rub you clit in small, soft circles to counteract the harshness of her thrusts and you squeal, dropping your upper body entirely on the bed and the new position gives shuri complete access to your g-spot, something you had had her touch but never this close.
you yell out, “oh, right there, shuri, please RIGHT there, don’t stop, don’t stop, i need it, hhaaaa shuri i’m cumming i’m cumming—!” and shuri nods along, whispering praises in your back and you cum again, your body letting out whole tremors as you shake, and you feel it, your pussy is squirting and you can’t do anything but moan aloud, the pressure on your clit making you nearly lose your voice and shuri pulls out once more, and your body falls against the sheets. shuri lays down too, catching her own breath, and you lay closer to her, sighing, still fucked out to really speak but shuri kisses you because she knows you need it.
you whimper against her mouth and she pulls away and asks, “one more for me, love?” and you sigh, and nod, “where do you want me?”
shuri puts you on top of her, sliding down her strap until your clit is kissing her abdomen again and she even moans, “you look so gorgeous, my love, intle ngokupheleleyo, can you move for me?” she whispers, holding one of your hands and kissing your knuckles. you nod, your thighs shaking as you life up and slowly drop down again, whimpering, your silk dress completely covered in your sweat and cum.
shuri sees your struggle and sits up in her forearms and takes you in hers, whispering, “i’ve got it love, can you hold on to me, sweet thing?” and you nod, dazed and wanting to listen, so you wrap your arms around her and she holds your back and she thrusts slightly, a softer pace unlike the last time. you moan softly and completely fall into her and she leans you both back, holding on to your butt as she thrusts upwards into you.
you sigh out and moan, more tears spilling and shuri uses one her hands to wipe them away, kissing praises into your skin, “that’s it, sthandwa, let it all out for me, love, i’ve got you,” you whine back nothing that makes actual sense and shuri laughs slightly, still fucking into you, squeezing your thighs and flexing hers and suddenly you hear it; her voice has changed and she’s gasping lowly against you—
she’s about to cum.
you moan aloud at the thought and bring your mouth to hers for a very wet kiss and when you pull away you whisper first, “are you about to cum for me, my love?” finally having gained some speech back and you see shuri gasp and toss her head back and nod, “yes, yes, i’m so close, my love, i feel it, ahhnnn—” and you nod and decide to copy her, encouraging her like she does you even though you can feel your mind fogging up again and your own orgasm approaching.
“shuri, cum with me, please baby, i want to feel it, please, please, please—!” you whimper and she nods, thrusting unevenly now, solely focused on her own pleasure and she lets out one more harsh thrust and a quick shout of a curse and moan of your name, and you feel it, she’s cumming, shuri’s cumming all for you, and the thought alone pushes you over as well, and you moan, twitching against the strap as you feel yourself squirt out more.
you’re huffing through your nose, trying to catch your breath and shuri is too, moaning lowly at the feel of her orgasm subsiding and you both fall back against each other, sighing.
shuri pulls out slowly, holding you up and praising you for being so good and you whine as you feel her dick leave you, your pussy pulsing around nothing once she’s gone.
she pulls your face towards hers and kisses you deeply, rubbing your dress against your back and you moan into her mouth and sigh, feeling your body calm down completely. shuri pulls away first, “do you need anything, usana?” and you shake your head wrapping your arms around her, “just stay right here please,” you whisper softly and she nods, holding your waist and you whisper back, “do you need anything?”
shuri laughs a bit, sighing, “just you, love.”
Tumblr media
you two had cleaned up after a long needed rest, laying back down with bonnets and head wraps on and actual pajamas, cuddled up at nearly 1 am.
shuri was tracing some patterns in your warm skin as you hummed softly, your eyes heavy with sleep and she kisses your forehead, “go to sleep love, we have nothing to do tomorrow,” she whispers and you believe her. you blink slowly once you looked up at her, sighing, “i love you so much,” you mutter out, words slurred because of sleep, and shuri smiles brightly,
“i love you more than you’ll know,” and you believe her.

shuri x fem!reader
summary: though Wakanda in December is breathtaking and Shuri has nothing against y/n enjoying the view, resting without her girl by her side has been difficult lately.
warnings: smut, tiniest bits of angst
word count: 1,439
author’s note: i gave in — Oh, Shuri, the things you do to me. i didn’t realize how difficult and almost terrifying it’d be to write for Shuri, but i’m glad i gave it a shot. i am drinking wine as i type this, so here’s to the first of, hopefully many, Shuri fics
Tumblr media
“Sthandwa,” Shuri’s honeyed voice was barely a whisper in the shadows, drowned out by the comforting noises of the midnight wind, “should I wait for you?” She questioned, slowly coming to approach her girlfriend. Her tone held a note of banter.
The girl stayed silent for a second; Shuri was to appear at the lab in the morning, but she had all the time in the world. Besides, Wakanda in December had been nothing short of breathtaking — she wanted to relish in the impressive skyline and the brightly shining stars that the view from her balcony offered.
“I suppose you shouldn’t.” A soft chuckle slipped past y/n’s lips once she decided upon speaking. “Go rest.” It was more of a plead than a suggestion. She’d come to bed immediately if only Shuri asked directly, but the night felt too calm to let go of.
The queen of Wakanda smiled, sneaking tattooed hands around her waist. “No,” she placed a gentle kiss on y/n’s neck, her lean fingers caressing a patch of exposed skin just above her lover’s hipbones, “I cannot rest without my girl.” Shuri slyly admitted.
Even if my girl were words she’s heard a million times before, my girl were words she craved to hear a million times over. It was inevitable; y/n couldn’t stop herself from falling for the princess once again. Endlessly and hopelessly in love.
A comforting silence had fallen between the two as Shuri placed her head on y/n’s shoulder, intertwining their fingers together. Though beautiful, the night was not as special as the serene moment the couple had the pleasure of sharing. Without threats of battle looming in the shadows, the air in Wakanda seemed lighter — different somehow. At last, the people of Wakanda had appeared at peace too, and it had been all the princess could ever ask for.
Princess, y/n thought with a heavy heart, reminiscing about the days when the simple title had used to fit. Except times had not been simple lately and Shuri’s princess title was a habit too difficult to break. Trusting her as the queen of Wakanda had been easy. It was accepting Ramonda as a permanent memory that had been too painful for both of the girls to bear. The future had become blurry.
“Sthandwa,” y/n began speaking, unsure of what it was exactly she wanted to say, “I would die each night for you, just as the moon does for the sun if it meant you would be happy. I’d climb the tallest mountains. Bast, I’d burn the world down to see you smile.” She traced Shuri’s tattoos with her thumb. “The black panther lives and when she fights, I’ll be right beside her.”
She didn’t turn to face her, but Shuri knew her girlfriend well enough to sense the anxiety painting y/n’s gaze. It was eerie to live in times of unpredictable dangers and though she couldn’t lessen her fear, Shuri had means of comforting her girl; means of comforting herself as well.
“I need you.” She whispered and took a step back, pulling y/n in her direction. “The night’s air will soon turn freezing.”
The woman didn’t protest, for she had no reason or energy to, allowing Shuri to whisk her away from the balcony and into their shared bedroom. Neither dared to break the silence that had overtaken the space when their bodies eventually hit the silky soft sheets.
The lonely bed had been solely Shuri’s until a few year ago, when the princess had opened her heart to y/n, permitting access to everything and anything that had used to be off-limits, including the ridiculous amounts of pillows resting over the covers. They laid on the floor now, not that the couple seemed to care. In fact, they were too infatuated with each other to notice anything other than the passionate touches and the way it raised goosebumps along their skin.
Shuri’s lips collided with y/n’s, delicately dancing together. The girl was content with anything the queen was willing to give, yet it didn’t mean she didn’t want more. She longed for Shuri’s hands to explore her body and touch her in places other people could never touch. Burned for the queen’s fingers to slide lower, much lower, as she pulled her closer to seal yet another kiss. Her fingers eagerly slid underneath Shuri’s black satin blouse to explore every inch of skin she could reach while laying on her back.
“I need you.” She repeated Shuri’s earlier words, a different undertone coaxing the expression. “Please.”
The scientist took her sweet time rolling over, placing her thighs on either side of y/n’s. “Patience is a virtue.” A light smirk clouded her smile as she placed light pecks on her neck, collarbones, and chest.
“Patience is a virtue I very much do not have,” she whined, “and very much do not currently care about implementing.”
The queen snickered, moving to place her lips on her inner thighs. “The universe is not as beautiful as you are.” She pushed the hem of y/n’s dress upwards, weaving her finger underneath her underwear and moved it to the side for better access to her lover’s dripping core. “Tell me what you want. Allow me to make tonight be about you.”
The girl whimpered, whether in protest of agreement, the queen wasn’t sure, continuing to place soft pecks on the skin of her lover’s inner thighs.
“I want your lips on my clit.” She admitted without shame, eyes locked with Shuri's.
Shuri silently granted her wish, wrapping a pair of perfect lips around y/n’s bud. Though she tried to appear calm and collected, a moan left y/n’s mouth as soon as Shuri’s tongue made contact with her pussy. Shuri didn’t hesitate to sink two fingers into y/n, purring from satisfaction when she let out a high-pitched whine.
The queen sucked on her clit for a second before drawing 8-figures with her tongue. She lapped at her without remorse, loving the way y/n tasted. Her partner’s taste was divine; the sweetest of honey.
“Baby,” she moaned, grabbing a handful of Shuri’s curls. It was as all y/n could manage as the woman replaced her fingers with her tongue, hitting a sensitive spot deep inside her, and began circling y/n’s clit with her thumb.
“No.” Shuri suddenly stopped. “I want your eyes on me,” she murmured into her skin, her fingers digging deep into y/n’s hips and waistline. “Who’s making you feel this good?”
Shuri’s hold on her body brought the best kind of pain — a promise of love markings she’d proudly wear when the sun awoke in the early hours of morning. “You are, princess.”
“Good girl.” She continued her earlier movement when y/n lazily opened her eyes. The queen’s own irises had been saturated with drunken lust.
The only thought she could muster was upholding an unspoken promise of bringing her the most orgasmic of pleasure and when y/n tugged on her curls to bring Shuri closer, it was made evident that she had been nearing towards the edge, seconds away from falling over. She moaned and whined, her legs shaking from the intensity of it all.
“I’m clo- “ the woman attempted to speak, but wasn’t able to finish the sentence as her orgasm took over, the feeling so powerful, y/n could not focus on anything other than the moment. For the first time in a while, she was truly in the present, with the past and the future blurring into burdens for another time.
“Make a mess on my face, honey.” Shuri smiled proudly before kissing, sucking, and licking y/n’s clit. Three of her fingers began sliding in and out of y/n’s slit, as she needed to feel her lover squeeze around her digits once more. “I love you. Only Bast knows the things I’d do for you.” She admitted, removing her body from y/n’s and getting up to find a towel.
Shuri had almost disappeared into their bathroom when y/n called out after her, “remember when you refused to share your bubble tea the last time we visited New York City?” She chuckled, fighting off sleep.
“No.” Shuri cocked her head to the side after she emerged from the bathroom minutes later. “That was different.” She deflected, her strong accent glazing her playful words.
“I love you.” She whispered, making a mental note to eat Shuri out for breakfast the next day. The girl was balancing on a thin line between sleep and awareness, barely hearing what Shuri had to say.
“I love you.” Shuri repeated once y/n let go, allowing slumber to whisk her away. “Endlessly and hopelessly.”

Hey. I'm sorry to ask this, but my mental health isn't doing so good lately. Ramonda is my comfort character. Could I maybe ask you to write something where she takes care of a F reader who struggles with nightmares about a past abusive relationship? Maybe she holds reader, and promises reader will always wake in her arms?
~ Holding you tight tonight
Queen Ramonda x Female Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: There comes a time when one must be honest about their past. When your turn arrives, Ramonda's more than ready to listen.
Author's note: I am so sorry this one took long to deliver in particular. I wanted to get it out quickly for the beautiful anon (I hope you're doing okay now, though) but I had some bad avoidance with writing for the past few months. Luckily, I'm slowly getting there. I hope you enjoy. Tell me how you like it.
Word Count: 6.2k
Angst, Hurt/Comfort
Warnings: A little Self-deprication, brief mentions of past abusive relationship, tears and panic
“You don’t have to leave places where you are wanted, merely because other places have rejected you” - Anda
“My queen, we are home.” Ramonda heard the words of the General from where she sat. They were on the quinjet, with Okoye flying it.
She looked up, having been too preoccupied to notice the horizon of her home country coming into view.
Okoye, noticing the obvious absent-mindedness of the queen, turned to look at her. Seeing that she’d been writing something down, she raised a brow.
“Are you planning something, Kumkanikazi?”
The queen, smiling now at the notes she’d been making, nodded her head in confirmation. “Just something special for me and Y/n.”
At the mention of your name, Okoye needed no further explanation as to why the queen was preoccupied. In the three years that the two of you had been together, if it was about you, she knew that Ramonda would be going above and beyond.
The same went for what she was planning right then. Simply put; it was a date. One where you and her would spend the evening in your shared room, or out in the garden, just enjoying your reunification.
Ramonda had been out on travel for a few weeks, unable to see you. It felt like a foreign concept, being away from you for so long. She’d been lucky enough to have rescheduled any travels when you’d just moved into the palace, not long after she’d proposed to you.
Though you were familiar with being in the palace since even before your relationship started, she still wanted to make sure that she didn't leave you alone until you were comfortable. Surprisingly, she made it 4 months before her travels could no longer be postponed, delegated or cancelled.
Though you’d assured her that you’d be okay, she’d still stayed worried from the moment she left. The nightly calls that you had to check up on each other became less about her updating you on how the alliance proceedings with the other nations were going, and more about you reassuring her that you were okay.
With all that time away from you, all she wanted was to be close to you. To refresh the fading memories of small things you did. To see the creases by the edges of your eyes when you smiled. To hear your boastful laugh whenever she said something you thought was comical.
She wanted to see you in your happy state. Doing all your happy state things. And the best way she knew how to get you there was with a date. Just you and her.
“Do you think you could dismiss all the Dora working on our wing of the palace tonight? I know she’s not a huge fan of them being around in the later hours.” Ramonda went on to ask, unintentionally including Okoye in her date planning.
Okoye went on with what she said, letting her throw ideas out to see if they sounded okay. By the time the quinjet landed in the royal hangar, Ramonda was sure that she had a finely planned date on her hands.
The two women were met with Aneka standing outside of the vehicle, smiling in greeting. With pleasantries out of the way, Ramonda continued looking down at her notes, Aneka on her left, and Okoye on her right.
“What have you got there my queen?” the former asked.
Ramonda angled the notebook towards the other woman, letting her read off of it.
Aneka nodded in understanding, a soft “oh” leaving her lips as she smiled at the revelation.
Though most of the Dora were close to the queen, sharing a respectful bond with her as their ruler, some of the Adored Ones got more than just that. Some, like the General, or even sweet Aneka got those glimpses of unprofessionalism. The hints of times when Ramonda was no longer the queen of the nation. Rather, just a friend who talked about the love of her life just as any other person would.
“How is she?” the queen found herself asking Aneka. The call she’d had with you only hours before seemed promising enough but she still needed an outside witness of assurance.
Aneka seemed slightly stumped by the question, looking for words that usually came quite easily to her. Okoye, knowing how lacking the woman could be in subtlety, cleared her throat as a signal; get to the point, soldier.
“She’s well!” She quickly let out, in a higher pitch than she normally spoke in. Seeing the pained look of embarrassment on the General's face, she tried again. “She looks refreshed… is what i mean. Very well rested.”
Ramonda sighed at that, relieved that her absence hadn’t brought you sleep problems. You’d looked beyond tired when she’d left, and she’d spent many hours worried that her departure was the reasoning for this.
She didn't notice the look of concern taking over the General’s face at Aneka’s words.
“Aneka…” the General started to speak, angling her head to the side. Another signal. What actually happened?
The normally outspoken Dora Milaje grew nervous at that, making it very obvious to even the least vigilant that there was definitely something missing from her story.
Unfortunately, Ramonda wasn’t being even the least bit vigilant.
Her body and mind were elsewhere as they entered the palace, making their way to her living-quarters. She was searching for you in anticipation, waiting to see your frame enter her view and brighten her day.
When she finally did see you, unknowingly coming out of your shared room to her and the Dora looking at you, she was overcome by relief.
“Y/n. My love.” you raised your head, knowing that voice as coming from one woman and one woman only.
“Sthandwa sam…” you let out breathlessly, a surprised smile coming to your face as you approached her.
Ramonda wasted no time separating from the two women that had accompanied her to go to you. The two of you were reunited in a warm embrace.
“You’re back early.” you expressed, taking in her serene scent and light energy.
“The last meeting was cancelled so I told Okoye that we should leave early and surprise you.”
You laughed at that, “I'm sure she was all too pleased to hear you talk about me for weeks on end.”
“She’s polite where she can be, but she’s definitely sick of hearing your name.” you both laughed at that.
When the two of you finally detached from each other, She took a good look at you. You looked just as Aneka had described. Refreshed and well rested. Ramonda found herself looking at you in complete amazement.
She never could get used to looking at your beautiful face and knowing that it was all hers to look at.
She looked at what you were wearing, noticing that you were still in more formal attire.
“Do you have somewhere to be, my love?”
“I was just rushing here to find something I forgot for work. I still have to go back.”
Ramonda nodded in understanding. She smiled at you for a little while longer, holding your hands in hers for a moment  before fully letting go of you.
“I’ll be back by 6.” you said, before leaning in to kiss her softly. She remained with a smile plastered on her face, now having a lingering tingle on her lips.
“I’ll see you then, my love.” Ramonda said, kissing you once again for that euphoric feeling before letting you go on with your day.
Though she usually grew slightly sad when you had to work long hours, in her mind now, this gave her plenty of time to prepare everything without worrying about whether you would catch her or not.
With her mind back onto her original intentions for the day, she turned to where she’d last seen the two Dora that were with her. Surprisingly, she was met with only Aneka behind her, wearing a rather guilty look on her face.
“Where did Okoye go?” She asked, gaining only more hesitation from the Adored One.
“I informed her of a task that needed to be done… elsewhere, My Queen.”
“Should I be worried?”
“No, no, not at all. Everything is well with the nation, Queen Ramonda.”
Feeling satisfied enough with that, Ramonda breathed out a sigh, returning back to her warm and loving expression. She let out a chuckle or two. “Good. I was starting to think you already needed me to leave for another nation again.”
Aneka tried her best to give off the same lighthearted emotion, but failed as her eyebrows creased in worry.
Ramonda entered the room finally, trading her more uncomfortable pieces of clothing for some more homely attire.
Once in the clear, she announced her decency to Aneka, who further let herself into the room. She watched as the queen went about looking around at where she’d place everything for later on in the night, and the thing that had been on the tip of her tongue seemingly since the royal figure had arrived finally came to the surface.
“You know, Queen Ramonda… there was actually-” She stopped when the queen looked directly at her with intrigue. Suddenly feeling the weight of her impending words. “There was something that I meant to inform you of when you first arrived. Something about when you were gone.”
“The Dora didn’t wreck another one of the training rooms, did they?  Ramonda laughed to herself, clearly not noting down the tension building in the room.
“No,” Aneka tried to laugh off with her, but then realised that she needed to get to it before she missed her chance, “It’s about Y/n.”
Now, Ramonda was focused. “What about her?”
“Do you remember how you told us to keep an eye on her for the first few days just to make sure that she was okay?”
Ramonda nodded at the question.
“Well, we did that. Or at least I did that. I always did a morning, afternoon and evening visit just to see how she was coping. But after a few mornings, I noticed that I would catch her coming into your room rather than leaving.”
“Like she was waking up early?”
“No. Like she was breaking back in after sneaking out.” Aneka clarified. Ramonda’s expression grew serious at this implication.
“So what you’re trying to say is…”
“What I'm trying to say is that I don't think Y/n spent a single night here after you left. I didn’t ask her, so I could be wrong, but I think she went back to her house by the river.”
Ramonda sounded speechless, “I thought she sold that place.”
“I did too, but according to the people who lived near her, that place was never sold.” Aneka went on to explain, as she’d spent a significant amount of time talking to farther away residents of the river. People who likely lived closer to your old home than they did to her and Ayo’s.
Aneka approached Ramonda in worry now that the news was out. Fearing that she’d grow sick from stress. Instead of welcoming the approach though, Ramonda waved her off. “I’m okay, Aneka. I just- I need time to think about this. You can have the rest of the day off. I’ll sort all of this out.”
“Should I still tell the others to leave this side of the-'' Aneka asked, unsure of whether this meant the date was cancelled.
“Yes. Everything will proceed as intended. I just need some time with her. Alone." She emphasised, feeling herself grow more uneasy at her own assertion.
The still worried Dora Milaje nodded, crossing her arms over her chest once before leaving the room.
Without the added presence, Ramonda felt herself starting to see the room she was in with a new perspective. She sat on a chair, looking at the grandly sized place in its totality.
It was clean. It smelt of potpourri. Strong potpourri. The type of strong that could only be achieved for a few minutes after a deep clean. Before the scents would shift to more signature ones owned by the bodies that entered the room.
That scent wouldn’t be there had you been living there. Not unless there had just been a deep clean, and as far as the queen knew, that wasn't on schedule for the day.
Looking then at the bed and the tables that laid on each side of them, she had another realisation. The drawers, the tables, the bed; they all looked untouched. Not lived in.
Had she been so caught up in wanting to make you feel at home that she'd slowly chased you away? That had to be the answer. You told her everything. She'd have known if you had affairs to attend to that required weeks of sleeping elsewhere.
Though her mind briefly thought of possible infidelity, she took that off the list of possibilities faster than the time that the idea took to formulate. This matter didn't involve anybody but the two of you.
This was a personal matter.
And if Ramonda knew one thing about confronting personal matters with you, she knew that it took 3 things. Time, patience, and a little nudge.
Tonight would indeed proceed as she'd intended. This date would be her nudge.
She just hoped she wouldn't push you too far.
Tumblr media
“Hm.” Ramonda heard you sigh next to her. She looked in your direction, a smile spreading across her lips as she watched you try to form words.
“What?” She asked, eager to know what that hum meant.
“Nothing,” you laughed, your hand finding hers instinctively. “I just didn’t think this would have been your favourite movie.” you pointed your head towards the tv screen that showed a stream of naming credits relating to the movie you’d watched.
“What did you expect, my love?” She questioned, raising your intertwined hands to her lips; kissing them gently.
You felt yourself shift closer to her warm body, leaving a large gap on the side of that bed that you’d been on only moments before. You snuggled up close to her, cuddling her as you looked at your intertwined hands.
“I didn’t expect anything, specifically. I just didn’t think romantic comedies were your thing.”
Ramonda let out a full belly chuckle. Short, direct, but loving. Kind of how she'd been the entire night.
“Don’t I look like the romantic type?” she asked, and after being met with your playful hesitation, “I planned this beautiful date, didn't I?” you nodded at that.
“And it was good, wasn’t it?”
You looked up at her, the distance between your lips suddenly becoming noticeable to you. And though you knew she was asking the question matter-a-factly, your want to kiss her after the effort she’d put into the day felt like the most appropriate answer.
Your eyes being fixed on said lips told her everything she needed to know about how you liked the day, but still she waited. Wanting to hear it from you directly.
“You did, sthandwa sam. And it was a good date.”
WIth your stamp of approval, she relented, letting her excited smile escape from its regular confinement.
You had a feeling that she'd wanted to get everything just right tonight. And though you’d been dating for a while, you knew that she still felt that hesitation that surrounded you all the time. You sensed how much she wanted to give you a day where none of that hesitation was needed.
You hoped that the way you’d been looking at her all day gave her some type of reassurance that she'd done her duty well. You hoped it made her feel certain enough to ignore whatever she might have heard from the others.
You'd seen Aneka and Okoye speaking when you'd first seen Ramonda earlier, and although all your attention went to your fiancée, you weren't as oblivious as she was in relation to what they were likely talking about.
Okoye had gone down the same hall path as you, choosing to catch up to you when you'd both left the conversation.
"General Okoye." You nodded and smiled at her as you walked.
"Y/n." She acknowledged.
You subtly tried to attempt walking at a brisker speed, failing to do so without catching the General’s attention. She matched your pace at every increase, even letting out a few chuckles at your sad attempt to get away from her.
"Do you need something, General?" you asked, finding yourself slowing down to accommodate a comfortable walking conversation.
"No, but I feel inclined to ask you that same question."
"If I need something?"
"Mhm." She nodded.
"Well, I don't believe that I do."
She looked at you sceptically,  "Is that so?"
You were nearly at the doors to the palace, knowing that this conversation had to get somewhere if you wanted to make it back on time for the rest of your work shift.
You fully stopped walking, turning to Okoye, who did the same. "Does it look like my answer should be on the contrary?" You huffed, getting frustrated.
"That's not my place to say. What is my place to say, however, is that whatever you may or may not have needed while the queen was gone was observed by more than just yourself." She pointed in the direction of where you'd left Ramonda and Aneka.
"I don't know what it is that happened, but my advice to you would be to give her details before she starts coming to her own conclusions."
She left you with only that, a soft smile of concern planted on her face as she went on with her required duties.
That one sentence had sent chills down your spine, your mind stuck on it for the remainder of your afternoon, and most of your night.
Now, you still thought of what she'd meant. On whether it was what you thought she meant. That you'd been found out in that one way that you'd somehow kept secret for so long.
Now, looking at how late it was, your anxiety grew to its peak.
That old hesitation that you'd been trying to hide for the whole night caught wind again, strengthening enough to peek through your once smiling face. Now a frown plastered itself on your lips.
“It’s getting late.” you said bluntly. More to yourself than to her.
“Are you tired, sthandwa?" Ramonda asked, drawing. circles on your arm with her free hand.
You nodded.
“We can go to sleep if you'd like. Three movies seems like more than enough for one night.” She smiled at you again, loosening her hold on you to pack everything up for the night. You watched as she rose from bed, watching you with those always loving eyes. You felt a sudden pit of anxiety seeing it. A feeling that needed immediate confrontation.
“I’ll pack these away.” you said, getting up from where you were and grabbing the uneaten snacks from the side tables ready to go out of the door with them.
“It's fine. I’ll just take-.” you heard her start to say, but you were already halfway out of the door before she could finish. You raced down the hall of your section of the dwelling, finding that your mind was working on autopilot getting you where you needed to go.
You moved through the halls, tears threatening to fall already as you made your way to the kitchen.
You heard a few muffled mentions of your name coming from where you'd just been but its lack of volume increase gave you enough information to know that Ramonda wasn’t approaching you.
You still had time.
You rushed around, finding yourself in the kitchen putting everything where you remembered it usually sat.
Heart racing, you felt yourself getting to one of the spare bathrooms. Going straight to the sink, you finally got the first look at yourself for the night, and one thing was very clear. You were panicked.
"It's just sleep." You said, trying to ration with yourself.
"Just sleep." You said it more than a few times, thinking, hoping that one of the attempts would end in you believing yourself. Hoping that one of them would end in you having the epiphany of a lifetime, where it all clicked and it really was just sleep.
Instead, though, when the repeated words hit the +10 mark, one of them ended in tears. Hot tears that burned your eyes getting out and left an even hotter feeling on your cheeks as they rushed down.
Old memories of life in the palace before Ramonda left came to mind. All the nights where you pretended to sleep just so she wouldn't worry. Where you pretended to have been well rested every morning just so she'd go on with her day not being worried about you. Where you hid in corners soothing yourself when you had chosen to sleep, only to be met with nightmares that woke you up anyway.
With all those feelings still fresh, you knew that you couldn't go back to that. Telling her wasn't an option but hiding it from her wasn’t either.
"I need to go." you opened the tap, letting water rush into your cupped hands before you brought your hands to your face, letting the water wash over you. The cold temperature of it reset your body, the tears slowing down and your breathing stabling.
The water did nothing for your unbalanced mind, though. You were still set on your words. You were leaving.
You wiped your face down with a towel, washed your hands and left the room, contemplating whether to let Ramonda know you weren’t staying or not.
You heavily considered it, even walking in the direction of your room, but at the last minute, you turned, deciding that it wasn't worth the trouble. You weren't worth the trouble.
I'll be back; you told yourself.
You'd come back tomorrow and you'd tell her that something came up and you had to go. You doubted that she'd believe you but it would be better to do that than tell her the truth.
Reaching the front entrance of the palace, you found yourself more overwhelmed than relieved, feeling more weight on your shoulders. You walked around, finding yourself nearing the garden. Off to a corner you saw a bench. The one that you'd discovered all those months ago. The one you’d sat on most nights while Ramonda slept.
You sat, gripping the edges of your seat as a means to ground yourself. You were in no shape to get yourself all the way to the river province. Your best solution was to sit there for a while.
You thought about how ridiculous you were being, avoiding the love of your life all because of something as trivial as nightmares. But it wasn't nearly as simple as that.
There was that history. That poisonous history with the person who had broken you in ways that never felt fixed all the way.
Ramonda was nothing like your ex. She was kind and gentle where your ex was rude and aggressive. She was patient where your ex was short tempered. She was genuinely loving where your ex was hateful with a fake loving disguise.
Ramonda was everything you needed her to be, and yet somehow that only made you feel less worthy of her.
Don’t leave. Don‘t leave. Don’t leave; you tried to tell yourself
But at the back of your mind the words that plagued your body during the day and terrorised your mind at night were seemingly always the strongest opponent in the battle.
Just leave, just leave, just leave; they used to say. Reminding you of how disposable you were to your ex. If you were disposable to them, then what difference was it to Ramonda? A queen. You were an inconvenience at best.
You’d always heard of people saying that past relationships could ruin your perception of love and life, but they always said it got better.
For you, that wasn’t the case, because if it were, you wouldn't be sitting there, years after you’d escaped, with the same words still running through your mind.
You wouldn’t be fearing the thought of sleeping every night and you wouldn't be hiding from the woman you loved trying to come up with more lies to tell her.
Tears were once again forming.
"My love?" You jumped at Ramonda's voice, startled more at her sudden appearance than you were of her serious tone.
You turned, looking up. Another fake smile being thrown her way.
“I'm okay.” You said before she could even ask. You wiped at your face instinctively, knowing that the tears would come down and expose your words as being false.
She approached you slowly, going down to sit next to you.
"Sthandwa sam, what's going on?" She was resorting back to the way she spoke to you when you were still in the early days of dating. Lacing her voice with the once emotion that got you to open up. Desperation.
"I thought I'd be back tomorrow." You said, and though you knew that the thought of you wanting to leave probably hurt her, she still held you as you found yourself placing your head on her shoulder. Needing to feel that sense of safety.
This small action was monumental. Not completely untouched territory, but unfelt. Unexperienced by you.
It’d taken months to convince you to let her show you that she could love you. It took twice as long for you to truly believe her when she said she did.
If there was one thing she knew about you, it was how long it took you to ease up your walls when it came to romance, and how easily you backed away whenever you were even slightly unsure of yourself. She didn’t want what was supposed to be a good day to end up becoming the reason you were 10 steps backwards in your trust again. And you knew that she was fighting to keep you for that reason alone.
You knew that if she let you leave, this version of you wouldn’t be the one to come back to her. It would be a more deceptive one. One that was better at executing your lies.
In all 3 years of your partnership, you'd never resisted the temptation to leave like you did now. You'd never been sick of the deception like you were now.
“I-” Ramonda ran through her mind trying to find something, anything to say.
“Are we okay?” she asked, because she needed to know. You failing to leave didn't mean that you wanted to stay.
“Sthandwa sam,” you sighed. All previous desires that you’d had to go without explanation flying out of the window at those words. Words you knew all too well.
You sat closer to her, not even a centimetre separating you. “We’re okay.” you reassured her.
A sigh of relief left her system, though she tried to make it seem unintentional.
“Today was perfect. You’re perfect.” you started, “I don’t want to go. But, I have- ” you stopped yourself there.
“You have what?” she asked.
“I can't.” you said, suddenly realising that your excuse lacked validity.
“What’s wrong?” She said in a tone so gentle, you nearly melted.
You tried to smile it off, “It’s nothing.”
Not taking that, she led her hand to your cheek, cupping your face.
“It’s not nothing.” she counter-argued. The glistening of your eyes told her that much.
“It's nothing reasonable. I mean.”
“So tell me…”
Breathless now, you couldn’t take your eyes off hers.
“I’m not a good sleeper.” you kept it brief.
Ramonda, though sceptical, felt her expression soften. “Meaning?”
“I’m restless and I wouldn’t want to disturb your sleep.”
“I can handle a little disruption.” She smirked.
“I wouldn’t call it little, Ramonda.”
“Well you've never disturbed me before. Why are suddenly worried about that now?”
You fell silent then, your body still with fear. Before you knew it, she was wiping tears away.
Embarrassed, anxious, and all other types of uncomfortable, you tried to get away from her, standing up.
“Please- don’t leave.” you heard. Again, it was firm and confident. But it was also thinly laced with a concern for you that only Ramonda possessed.
Your mind rushed with memories of earlier in the day. When you’d arrived back at the palace after work only to be greeted by just Ramonda. No Dora, no crown. Just the figure of her that bore no burden other than loving you.
That burden showed more that she’d have liked to admit. And though she always heavily denied that it was just that - a burden- something always rang at the back of your mind, telling you that she was lying. That she was holding the world up trying to please you and it was weighing her down more than ruling an entire country ever could.
Still, with that she welcomed you into her world once again. Knowing that you had one foot out of the door from the very beginning, but still holding some hope that maybe you’d choose to let the one inside the door lead you.
With a calming day indoors, filled with your usual banter and conversation. You knew that she thought it was going well. In your heart, you wanted it to be going well too. But that cloud of doubt never ceased to exist above you.
“I’m sorry.” you said. You were chuckling at yourself now, swiftly wiping your tears away before taking a deep breath in.
"I'm a mess and I can't tell you why." You lied again, deciding to pile on as many as you could now.
She stood up, "Come inside, my love. It'd be much easier to work this out without being in the cold." You couldn't disagree, nodding acceptingly, allowing her to wrap her arms around you and lead you back inside.
You can’t leave now. You'll have to wait until she makes you go. Which won’t take long; you thought.
She guided you inside of your room, letting you settle yourself on your side of the bed before sitting next to you.
You sat in an uncomfortable silence, Ramonda waiting to let you calm down more. When you seemed more stable, but you still refused to say anything, she sighed looking up at the ceiling.
"Aneka told me that you still have your old place by the river." She started. Your focus immediately went to her, her hand rushing to find hers. She let you hold her hand, but still she couldn't look at you.
"Is it true?"
"It's not lik-" you started, sighing and trying again, "Yes." Now she looked at you.
"My love...” You heard her whisper.
"It's not you. It's never been you."
"Then what is it?"
"It's… it's… complicated"
You spoke like you were ready to leave.
"I've got all night. We can uncomplicate it."
"I don't think it could really work like that, sthandwa."
“Why won’t you at least try to tell me so I can see for myself whether that is true?”
“Because if I do, and I am right, it’ll break me 10 times more than the first time.”
“What was the first time?”
Tired of the back and forth, and quite frankly tired of the secrets, you relented. "I have these nightmares…" you started to explain it all to her. From the very beginning.
You described the memories of you and your ex. The moments where the love that you had built suddenly turned into hate from them. How you could feel your uncertainty about them build up overtime. And how that feeling of safety that you'd often had before, faded into a mere foreign concept.
You told her about the worst days. When the abusive and toxic nature of the relationship had started to seep into your mind, flooding your thoughts even when you were far away from them.
You continued as Ramonda held you closely, listening to your every word.
"When I left, the nightmares started. Heightened memories of our worst days. The days when their words got to me the most. I stopped feeling safe entirely. My life, dictated by their words. I lost control of myself.” You wiped away your now, few tears, finding yourself thinking about the good that came after all that you’d been through.
“Then you came along. And you made me feel… wanted. You made me feel like I wasn't as bad of a person to deal with. Like my existence wasn’t a hindrance.
And for so long I hoped that that would be enough. That your love would wash away all of the bad nights and I'd be fully at peace for once. But it's never that simple. I still have those nightmares.”
Ramonda only held you closer now, feeling the weight of the burden you’d been carrying.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” she asked gently. Not angry, but curious.
“I didn’t tell you because it would make you think that I wasn’t happy. That you don’t make me happy and Bast, Ramonda, you make me more happy than anybody I’ve ever crossed paths with. I never for a moment wanted you to think that all your loving actions were in vain. I still don’t want you to.”
That final admission, where you felt yourself become your most vulnerable, was like a release in the chain of bad events that had happened to you in your life. It made you feel more than any other day with Ramonda ever had.
It felt better than the day you’d gone on your first date. Or the day she’d proposed to you with the sweetest speech you’d ever heard. It was more than all the gifts she’d gotten you and all the late night conversations you’d had.
It was so much more, because this time, you were finally able to give her the honesty that you’d longed to give her all this time. This time, you were putting your fear of hurting her feelings aside in an attempt to give her the reassurance that you trusted her.
That relief of being able to subtly say those words; I trust you. That was special.
You laid there, watching her process it all, and for a moment, even with your relief, you felt yourself begin to panic. Maybe it was too much.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn't have said all of that.”
“No. I’m glad you did. I’m glad you don’t have to keep it to yourself anymore.” she said, “I’m sorry you felt like you had to keep that in for so long.”
“Don’t apologise. It has nothing to do with you.”
“But it has everything to do with you. And anything that has to do with you is immediately something I want to know.” she looked at you with the faintest smile on her face, her signal to you that told you she wasn’t mad.
“I want to be here for all your moments, sthandwa sam. I want to celebrate your good news with you and I want to cry at your bad news just as intensely. You’re worth every minute of sleep that I lose at the hands of holding you after those nightmares.”
Hearing that, you tried to shake your head in disagreement.
“No I’m no-”
“Yes you are Y/n.” she kissed your hand tenderly.
“I don’t expect you to believe me just yet, but I’m willing to let you know that you are, over and over again. I’m willing to hold you as close to me as you need every night until the day I die. I’ll do it all if it means you’ll feel safe again.”
You were left speechless, trying to find the words to respond to that, but honestly you knew that you wouldn’t be able to. She meant every word, and you felt every bit of her emotion.
With your hand still in hers, she settled herself in bed, looking at you as you watched her hesitantly.
“Let me hold you tightly… and let me choose to never let go.” she said.

Hours later, when you felt yourself begin to stir awake, your heart racing as yet another night terror played itself out in your head, you felt yourself rising up.
Opening your eyes, and finding tears in them, you wiped them away in embarrassment.
More doubt crept up in you, and once again, the odds seemed to be stacked against you.
There was no way this could all work.
You were just too much.
When you tried to rise up from bed, wanting to get your things and leave, you felt an arm touch yours.
You looked down, seeing what you’d previously thought would be a sleeping Ramonda, definitely awake.
She laid, watching you with barely awake eyes. You’d clearly woken her up.
“I’m sorry.” you apologised.
But when you thought you’d be met with anger, or pity, you were only met with a warm and welcoming expression, Ramonda sitting up and opening her arms to you.
“Come here.” she said, waiting patiently but firmly.
You were slow, but after a few deep breaths, you found yourself drawn to her touch, wanting that protection.
Her warm embrace seemed to ease your mind for the first time in a while. Her presence calmed you, and you felt cared for in a completely new way.
“It’s you and me, my love. I can assure you that you will never have to wake up without me by your side to ease your worry. My arms are your new home to know forever. They will be here whenever you need them. And I will always be here for you.”

A/N: HELLO! I did change some things in the first part. Instead of Queen Ramonda calling Shuri, Okoye is the person who calls her! Mainly because I kind of changed my mind about bringing Ramonda back to life for this series. I love her character literally so much...but I think its important to stay with the storyline of how her death affected Shuri. I think that's all I have to say. OH! This series will have another name sooner rather than later! With the plot I have in my mind, "The Study Room" doesn't really fit...but we'll see!
Other than that...enjoy the third part!

Recap:
“Okay. We’ll talk about it tomorrow.”
The smile on Shuri’s face radiated fondness and a softness that no one else on campus had seen as she watched your breaths even out. Even as she was sure that you were asleep, she continued to rub your hand, the motion that had put you to sleep relaxing her more and more.
You weren’t awake to hear her words, but she spoke them nonetheless into the darkened room.
“Goodnight, Y/N.”
**********
You didn’t know how long you had been sleeping when you were awoken by your phone buzzing on the bedside table next to you. It had been so tempting to ignore it, but then the memory of recent events flew to the forefront of your mind. The only people you could think of that would call you at such a time of the night were close family members, Imani, and Imani’s parents. After the night’s events, it wasn’t surprising when you picked up your phone to see Imani’s mother calling you.
Quickly sliding out of bed, you quietly walked into Shuri’s bathroom, closing the door softly behind you.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Y/N. It’s Mrs. Byers.”
It was easy to keep the fatigue at bay for the meantime, especially as you figured that she was only calling because of some kind of update on Imani. However, you couldn’t stop your eyes from closing, one of your hands reaching up to rub at them.
“Hey, Mrs. Byers. How’s Imani? Is everything okay?”
The both of you spoke quietly on the phone for the next few minutes. She told you of the small update they had been given in the middle of the night, and how the update meant that they’d be able to take Imani home first thing in the morning. She had even asked if you were okay and if you had found a place to stay for the night, to which you replied with a rather vague confirmation that you had indeed found a place to stay.
After asking her to have Imani call in the morning, if she was up for it, the call ended with both of you bidding the other goodnight. Almost immediately after hanging up, the stress that had been seizing your body during the entire ordeal dissipated. Mrs. Byers’ confirmation that her daughter would be perfectly fine prompted that exhaustion from earlier to smack into you, this time, completely unbridled and without the influence of stress and worry.
You didn’t waste another second stepping back into the darkened room, intent on crawling right back into Shuri’s bed and resuming your sleep. Your steps came up short as you saw Shuri’s shadowy figure sitting up on the edge of her bed, facing you. She reached over, fiddling with something on the bedside table, and then there was a soft, purple glow emitting from some kind of crystal/rock.
“Everything okay?”
Despite being dead tired, your exhausted brain still held enough energy to start racing at the sound of her groggy, raspy voice and how it was full of worry. She moved to stand up but you quickly held out a hand, walking towards her.
“No, it's fine. Everything’s good. That was Imani’s mom and she was just letting me know that they’ll be able to take her home in the morning.”
She nodded, rubbing at her face. In the dim lighting of the room, you could make out a small smile on her face.
“That’s good. I’m glad. So…you comin' back to bed?”
Her question quite literally rendered you speechless, and it was solely because of the innuendo her words held. The question was one that most would expect to hear from their partner…not their friend that they had surely grown feelings for and who they had to share a bed with.
Not to mention the light and hopeful tone in her voice as she asked the question, almost as if she wanted you to get back into bed. As if she wanted to share a space that could certainly be seen as intimate in some settings with you.
“Y/N?”
“Huh? Yeah! Yeah, I’m coming back to bed.”
God, were you thankful for the dim lighting of the room. If not for it, she would have surely been able to see your face and the way you had to bite back a giddy smile as you walked back to your side. She held the covers up as you slid back into your space, and only once you were laying down did she pull the covers over the two of you after turning off the lamp.
It felt natural getting back into the same position you two had initially gone to sleep in. The only difference this time was that, instead of Shuri reaching for your hand and tracing shapes, you reached for hers. This time, you traced idle shapes into her skin, letting your eyes shut and letting sleep once again claim you both.
*************
Waking up just a few hours later was a little different. As the first signs of consciousness reached you, the various reminders that you weren’t in your own bed once again confronted you.
For starters, where the sun usually streamed through your window, beaming directly into your face in your dorm, the opposite could be said for Shuri’s. There were nice, blackout curtains covering the windows of her room that you hadn’t noticed the night before (presumably to provide her a good enough sense of privacy), and the same crystal that had given off the soft, purple light last night was on. The relaxing aura it gave off reminded you of the woman it belonged to- the same woman who was missing from her own room.
Slowly sitting up, you fixed your bonnet, surprised to not find it on the other side of the bed (or room). Your eyes, still a little heavy with sleep, looked around the room for the one person you wanted to see only to come up empty. They closed again, your head falling to the pillow as a sigh left your mouth. The urge to grab the cover and pull it right back over you continued to grow the longer you laid there, but your attention was soon drawn to the door of Shuri’s room as the sound of keys being inserted rang out. The door swung open right as you sat up, eyes instantly finding the princess herself.
“Oh, good morning. How’d you sleep?”
She carried two paper bags in her hand that she sat down on her desk while she shed her coat, exposing her t-shirt and sweatpants, the clothes she had worn to bed.  Kicking off her shoes and turning to you, she walked in your direction, picking up the bags.
“I slept pretty okay. How’d you sleep? Also I’m sorry for waking you up last night.” Shuri proceeded to grab a tray-like item, setting it on her bed in front of you. She set the bags on the tray before crawling back into bed, sitting beside you.
“It’s totally fine. I’m just glad your friend is okay.” There was a smile on her face as she glanced at you before reaching into her bag. Your eyebrows furrowed as she motioned for you to do the same, and upon leaning closer, the smell of food became apparent.
“Thank you- did you get us breakfast?”
To answer, she unboxed her food, showcasing it to you. She held a bagel topped with cream cheese and fruit out for you to see. It looked delicious, and you found yourself actually wanting to try it; that is until you remembered that she had gotten you your own food.
Reaching into your own bag, you pulled out a sandwich item wrapped with parchment paper. The mouth-watering smell grew, and as it did, you could feel it tugging at a familiar part of your brain. Opening the paper showed that your breakfast consisted of a croissant that was stuffed with what looked and smelled to be nutella and slices of fruit. You immediately recognized it as your go to order from one of your favorite cafes on campus.
You looked up, ready to thank her generously for breakfast, but then you realized not one, but two things. The first realization was that Shuri’s dorm wasn’t the closest to the cafe, having to be at least a 10 minute walk. The second realization came after you looked closer at Shuri and saw little droplets of water in her curls. Eyebrows furrowing, you leaned forward without thinking, catching a drop of water that had been getting ready to fall off of a curl and right onto her face. You quickly pulled your hand back, though, at the way Shuri froze, her eyes softening at your actions.
“Shuri…don’t tell me it was raining and you walked to get breakfast.”
Once again, instead of answering, she simply shrugged with a knowing smile on her face. She raised her bagel to her mouth, taking a bite as she gazed at you.
You gawked at her, eyes wide in disbelief. She let it go on for a second before she motioned to your food in your hand, her eyebrows raising.
“You need to eat before it gets cold.”
She somehow sounded both teasing and demanding at the same time, and the thrill that it sent through you made you lose all words you were going to say. Wordlessly, you lifted the crescent to your mouth, taking a bite. You couldn’t help the small, satisfied sigh that left your mouth at the taste of your favorite breakfast item.
It had admittedly been a while since the last time you had it, due to things just being a little extra hectic lately. Winter break was approaching which also meant the arrival of finals, something you had gratefully finished the week before. But even after finishing your last exam, going to your favorite cafe hadn’t been on your list of priorities, unfortunately. But leave it to Shuri to provide a reminder of why and how much you loved the cafe.
A minute or two of you both eating in content silence passed until you broke it. You spoke softly, not wanting to disrupt the air of tranquility.
“Can I ask what kind of lamp that is?”
She glanced over her shoulder at the crystal lamp still providing a little bit of light before turning back to you.
“It’s quartz crystal infused with vibranium from Wakanda. Given to me as a ‘going away’ present by a friend.” She smiled fondly as she spoke, but then she motioned to something behind you.
“I have two. One on this side, and one on your side.”
The only thing that distracted you from possibly overthinking her usage of the words ‘your side’ was when she placed her food back on the tray and leaned over. She rose onto her knees, reaching over your lap to turn the lamp on. She was close enough for you to smell the hair products in her hair, undoubtedly activated by the rain outside. They smelled natural and soothing; nothing like the chemical filled products often found in the states.
You set a hand behind you, leaning back on it to give her more space, no matter how much you wanted to lean forward. Her hand landed on the other side of your lap, propping her up as she leaned over, fiddling with the lamp. You watched as the same light emitted from it only for it to change into a soft, blue color.
Leaning in the same direction as her, you looked closer at the light, taking the time to truly admire it. The only word that could be used to describe it was…enchanting. You wouldn’t call it magical; there was something much deeper about its appeal to call it simply ‘magical’.
“So the quartz reacts to the vibranium, making it glow like that.” You assumed, eyes narrowing slightly in curiosity. “I’m assuming it was your genius addition that makes it possible to change the color.”
Your words were said with a smile as you turned your head to look at her only to finally realize how close you two were. She nodded, her gaze unwavering from where it connected with yours. Her voice was soft as she responded.
“Yeah…I developed a way to alter the smallest bit of irradiation inside of the crystal, which makes it change colors.”
The answer was simple enough, but you still couldn’t help staring in awe at her. She had taken an already scientifically advanced item and further advanced it. It wasn’t a surprise that she could do it, but it was still something to be in awe of.
“It…it makes sense. It’s also not surprising that you made it better.” A breathless laugh left your mouth, making her laugh softly. She propped herself up more which only brought her face closer to yours. It was obvious how your heart sped up if your quickened breaths were anything to go by.
“Is that what you think? That I make things better?”
Was this really happening?
Shuri’s eyes unabashedly looked down at your lips, and the next breath you took in stuttered slightly. Her movements were slow as she leaned closer, drawing her face closer to yours until the air from her next words could be felt on your lips.
When she spoke, her voice was rough around the edges, as if she were straining herself back from doing more and trying her best to get them out. Her free hand raced, tracing a path from the tips of your free hand up to your elbow, which she used to pull you closer. You didn’t offer any resistance, essentially a pile of puddy in her hands. Your name left her mouth on a  breathless exhale.
“Tell me to stop…if you don’t want this, tell me to stop.”
You couldn’t possibly make your voice work right, so you settled with shaking your head. Her movements paused in their entirety; she stopped drawing you closer and her tracing stopped.
“I need to hear it.”
“I don’t want you to stop.” Your voice was merely a whisper, almost getting stuck in your throat as you forced them out. The breathlessness of your voice made a crooked smile appear on Shuri’s face as she leaned forward once more. She lifted her hand, using it to tip your chin back.
Your body felt as if it were on fire as she paused again, simply observing the position she had you in. The spots where her skin came into contact with yours were the hottest, though it felt as if molten lava flowed from those spots and through your veins. She still had that damned smile on your face, and you wanted nothing to kiss it right off. You could feel something close to defiance entering your mind, spurred on by the way she continued to tease you, even in the slightest. It made you clench your jaw, lifting your chin more as you hardened your gaze where it connected with hers…and she immediately recognized your look for what it was.
Her eyebrows rose in a mixture of surprise and amusement, and then she was finally about to close the gap, her lips skimming just the surface of your bottom lip-
Only for you both to quickly separate at the sound of 3 heavy knocks landing on her door. It quickly shattered the air surrounding you; the tranquility, the vulnerability, the tension.  It didn’t get rid of it in its entirety, for it still simmered right there on the surface, turning more into a need than a want.
A quick glance Shuri’s way showed her rubbing a hand down her face in frustration and turning towards the door. She quickly scooted to the edge of the bed before pausing, sending a look over her shoulder at you. The attraction that had been in her eyes mere seconds ago was still there, but it almost seemed masked now. You couldn’t find an ounce of regret in her eyes, but the sudden change had your heart beating quickly, and not in anticipation. More so in nervousness.
“*Ikumkani wam…I know you are in there. You know I have no reservation about kicking this door down.”
Shuri’s eyes widened almost comically as she turned back to the door, quickly making her way towards it. As her back was turned, you took the chance to place a hand against your chest, willing your heart to go back to its regular pace.
“Okoye? What are you doing here?”
She swung the door open, only enough to speak to the person outside- Okoye, she had said. The name sounded familiar, though you were seriously questioning your own judgment at the moment.
Okoye. Okoye.
Connecting the name to the multiple stories Shuri had told about the stoic, intelligent, and deadly General of Wakanda’s army made you scramble to get out of bed. You had no idea what you would do, but for some reason, being caught in Shuri’s bed by the general of an army seemed to be at the bottom of the list of things you wanted to go through so early in the morning.
Flinging the covers to the side sent your phone flying and bouncing off of the wall. A few events happened in the span of a few seconds, effectively turning the morning into chaos.
Your foot became caught in the comforter as you hurried to reach for it, causing you to follow its path and land in a heap on the floor. Shuri quickly turned at the sound just in time to see you go over the side of the bed, and the door was pushed out of her hand as the general quickly stepped in.
Hand closing around your phone, you managed to right yourself and grabbed the bed to pull yourself up. You came face to face with something metal and something so sharp it almost became invisible as you pulled yourself back up. Your body tensed so quickly and so much that it wasn’t a surprise when a painful tweak went through your back, though you didn’t dare move.
Eyes flickering from the edge of the weapon to the face of the newcomer, the damn General, you slowly and shakily raised your hands. You didn’t even blink, too afraid of doing something that could even potentially be seen as threatening.
“Okoye, wait!”
Shuri’s voice seemed like the damn voice of an angel as she quickly rushed forward, placing a hand on Okoye’s arm. She spoke slowly but firmly.
“She’s a friend, not a threat. You brought a spear in here?”
Your gratitude undoubtedly showed on your face as you looked at Shuri, because she nodded assuredly, giving you a small, tight smile. At Shuri’s actions and words, Okoye retracted her spear, tilting her chin up as she assessed you. When she spoke, her voice wasn’t unkind…but it wasn’t kind either.
“Oh, I can see that. And I brought a spear because I felt the need to.” Her head turned to face Shuri and you almost immediately sagged in relief, though your eyes widened as her spear retracted into a small, hand sized pole.
“You felt the need to bring a vibranium spear to a college campus, and then threaten my friend with it-”
“Shuri, we need to talk. It’s important.”
There must have been something in Okoye’s voice that spoke to the seriousness of the situation because Shuri paused, stepping closer to her. Her eyebrows furrowed and the typical playful Shuri you knew quickly disappeared, a more regal version of her appearing.
“What is it? What’s happened?”
Assuming that the two of them would have just forgotten about you while discussing, presumably what would be Wakandan business, was a little foolish of you. So when Okoye didn’t respond, instead choosing to look expectantly in your direction. She raised an eyebrow, and you immediately got the message.
Once again, you found yourself rushing to stand to your feet. You were able to do so without incident this time, quickly snatching your phone up. You nodded in understanding.
“Oh! Yeah, of course. I’ll go-uh, do something and let you two talk.”
Nevermind the fact that you had no idea where you would go. You still had on your pjs and bonnet and it was raining outside…but now Okoye was staring at you, waiting for you to leave. Her attention only made you move faster.
“Wait, no, wait.” Right as you reached for your shoes, a hand landed on your arm, effectively pausing your actions. You spoke before Shuri could continue, placing your hand on top of hers.
“It’s okay. If it’s important then I probably shouldn’t be here. Especially if it has to do with…Wakanda. I’ll go get us some lunch. Just call me when you’re done.” You sent her a smile that was surprisingly easy to muster up, especially in the face of all the chaos and confusion that had just happened.
She looked at you for a few seconds, undoubtedly trying to see through your words and to see what you were truly thinking. When she was seemingly satisfied with what she saw, she sighed in resignation. Nodding, she squeezed your arm gently before letting it go.
“Alright. I’ll call as soon as we’re done.”
You nodded, leaning down to put on your shoes. Once you grabbed your coat, you made your way to the door, pausing to awkwardly nod a goodbye at Okoye. She had the heart to give you the tiniest, strained smile before nodding back, and then you were closing the door behind you.
The second the door closed, Shuri was whirling to stare incredulously at Okoye, mouth agape.
“I have to say, Okoye. I’m both surprised and not that you’d barge in while I’m at school and then basically order my friend to leave.”
“We both know that’s not just your friend.”
Okoye rolled her eyes, stepping around her and in the direction of the covered windows. She pulled a curtain aside just enough to peek outside before letting it fall back into place. Shuri opened and closed her mouth, looking for a response. Before she could find one,  Okoye  turned to face Shuri, letting out a sigh.
“You’re being watched.”
Shuri tensed, her body freezing at Okoye’s words. She was being watched? Who would follow the sitting queen of Wakanda? Who would risk getting in trouble with Wakanda because of their stalker tendencies?
At Shuri’s silence, Okoye stepped closer. She brandished her kimoyo beads and then they were both looking at projections of pictures…pictures that consisted of Shuri in different parts of the campus they were currently on. There were some of her walking between classes, eating in the dining hall, even when she had studied in the library.
Instead of feeling fear or nervousness, she felt irritation. Annoyance. Leave it to some person without boundaries on campus to make her college-going experience weird. Her irritation showed on her face as she looked at Okoye.
“It’s probably just some weirdo here on campus.”
Her words trailed off as Okoye shook her head, her eyes widening to convey the seriousness of the situation.
“You don’t understand, Shuri. They sent these to the Doras who are assigned to you. They knew who they were and what they were here for and managed to send pictures to them. Not only that, but we are unable to trace where they came from as of right now. Whoever they are…they know how to cover their tracks.”
Shuri’s mind raced slightly as she turned away, her fingers fidgeting. What the hell did they want- what were they hoping to achieve by sending those pictures? Was it a scare tactic? A threat of some kind? A demand?
“**Ukumkanikazi, I think it's best if you come back to Wakanda. At least for the time being, and until we can figure this out.”
Shuri instantly hated the idea of letting this nameless and faceless person, or people, put her life on pause. Sure, she had a life in Wakanda, but that life was one full of royal duties and inheritance. She quite enjoyed this life she had made on her own; she had gotten into college on her own, picked out her classes, made friends…all on her own. And now this…creep felt entitled enough to insert their unwanted and stalker-like personality into it.
She felt as if she were running, despite the fact that she had already planned on going back to Wakanda for winter break. That was the only reason she wasn’t giving Okoye such a hard time right now, but she’d make sure to carve time out of her schedule to do so later on.
“I had already planned on coming back for break. I…can’t just up and leave now. Let me at least talk to my fri- to Y/N, explain what's going on.”
She wouldn’t even entertain the thought of leaving without explaining herself to you. Even if she were to do something like that, she had a feeling that you wouldn’t be…too mad at her, especially in the face of a situation like this. You’d want her to do exactly what Okoye said, especially if it meant that she’d be away from the people surveilling her.
Okoye sent her a knowing look, one that let Shuri know that she knew exactly what had been happening at the time of her arrival. She sent one back that let Okoye know that she wouldn’t be leaving unless she spoke to you.
Finally, after a brief staredown from the two hard-headed women, Okoye let out a resigned sigh. She waved a hand, turning towards her door.
“Fine. Call your little…friend. And then pack your things and meet me on the roof. I don’t want to have to come and find you, Shuri.”
She copied Okoye’s actions, raising a hand and half heartedly waving in agreement as she sought out her phone. Her hand closed around it right as she heard the door shut, and it took her less than a few seconds to find your name and click on it.
As it rang, she moved around her room, taking note of the things she’d end up packing. It wouldn’t be a lot; she had everything she needed and more already in Wakanda…but she wanted to take her posters and the little trinkets she had acquired during her time in America. Maybe she’d have time to come back and get them once everything calmed down-
No. Why was she thinking as if she’d never be able to come back? She’d make sure she’d be able to come back, so she would leave those posters and trinkets. Okay, maybe she’d take a few of them.
The phone continued to ring, making her eyebrows furrow. She pulled it away from her ear, hanging the call up only to call right back. She tried not to let the nervous feeling in her chest grow, but the longer the call rang without being answered, the more it became apparent.
She continued to listen to the ringing as a series of knocks landed on her door. She barely registered the knocking, even as she went to open the door. There had been a small, hopeful feeling that your face would’ve been on the other side of the door, but instead it was Okoye once again. Upon hearing your voicemail answer instead of your voice, she let out a sigh.
“I’m coming, Okoye. I’m still trying to reach her-”
“Shuri, you need to see this.”
The urge to tell Okoye to just wait a second died instantly as she caught a glimpse of what she wanted her to see. She had more pictures projected from her kimoyo beads, all of them still showing Shuri, but she wasn’t the only one in them this time.
Shuri’s heart dropped as she stepped closer, her eyes focusing on the other face in the pictures; the only person she had been seen with on campus.
You.
She quickly looked at Okoye, worry clear as day on her face. That worry that had been gnawing at her nerves turned into a violent pang that wracked through her body as the pictures continued to change, all of them consisting of you and her. As she continued to watch, she dialed your number again, internally pleading that you’d just answer the phone.
“For Bast’s sake, answer the phone. Please-” Her words cut off abruptly at the last picture in the stack.
If it hadn’t been taken by some threatening stalker, the picture would have been sweet. Perfect, even. But no, because of the circumstances, the moment captured became tainted. It became…scary.
The picture showed the two of you leaving the library after one of your many study sessions, right as you two bid each other goodnight and went your separate ways. You both were faced the opposite direction of the other, hands up and undoubtedly waving bye.
On the back of the last picture, crudely scribbled in red ink, were the words:
DONT YOU UNDERSTAND THE SAHDE IN HER HEART
BE GRAETFUL DEAR  OUR UNION IS FATED
DELIVERANC DEMANDS YOU DO YOU PART
The lack of punctuation, the scribbling, the typos, the message itself said enough about who this person was, and just how unhinged they were. The projection allowed her to see how the word “HER” seemed to be worse than the other words, almost intelligible…and scribbled right over where your face was on the other side of the picture.
“When did you get these?”
The look on Okoye’s face didn’t help the situation at all. In fact, it only made it harder for Shuri. She to take a deep breath around the tight feeling in her chest, though the feeling didn’t go anywhere.
“Ayo received these 10 minutes ago.”
Shuri cursed loudly, quickly walking around Okoye and towards her door. There wasn’t an ounce of hesitation as she stepped into the hallway, Okoye hot on her heels.
“Shuri, we have to have a plan!”
“The plan is to find Y/N before anything can happen!”
There wasn’t room in Shuri’s voice for any negotiation as they burst into the stairwell and flew down the stairs. Okoye could only follow, speaking into her kimoyo beads to the assigned Doras who were placed on campus. She gave them your description and stressed how important it was to find you.
Shuri, on the other hand, only thought about how she would literally go through anything and anyone to get to you.
**********
You literally hadn’t known what to do the second you stepped out of Shuri’s dorm building, so you had picked a direction, and simply started walking in it. It didn’t take long for you to realize that you were walking in the direction of the library. You hadn’t brought your bag with you, so you didn’t have your computer, but maybe you could find something to do while there.
Of course and unsurprisingly, as you walked, hood up and trying to shield your face from the rain, your thoughts strayed to Shuri and what she and Okoye had to talk about. You hoped it wasn’t anything too worrisome, for you knew exactly how much Shuri cared for her home country. She’d drop any and everything in a heartbeat to go and deal with whatever needed to be dealt with.
Making this conclusion made you come to the realization that…any and everything included you. You honestly couldn’t fault her; she was queen of an entire country. There were more important things she’d have to worry about- things a lot more important than you two meeting in the library and eating things from the cafe together. More important things than…than whatever had happened in her room.
You let out a heavy sigh, one full of acceptance that there’d probably never be a time where you’d be considered above her duties- nor did you expect to be.
You pulled out your phone, glancing down at it for a quick second, looking for a call from Shuri that you knew hadn’t come yet. That one second was enough for you to practically run into another person, so hard that you stumbled back a few steps.
The other person, also with a rain jacket covering their body, their hood up, simply rushed past you. Your head turned to follow their retreating figure, eyebrows furrowed and your lips twisted.
“Excuse you. Damn…I thought we learned manners at a young age.”
You placed your hands back in your pockets, turning to continue your walk. The interaction was instantly pushed to the back of your mind as you thought of maybe picking up lunch for the two of you. But you two had literally just had breakfast, not even an hour ago. There was nothing wrong with an early lunch, right? Maybe you could call it brunch?
Or maybe you’d ask if you could take a nap. Maybe it was the rain and dreary skies making you feel a little tired, because you hadn’t felt so…heavy and slow moving when you had left Shuri’s dorm.
The feeling persisted, and it only occurred to you that something was wrong when you felt as if you were running out of breath. It was impossible; you’d only been walking. Then came the feeling of being hot despite seeing your breath leave your mouth in a white cloud. The cold rain couldn’t offer any reprieve.
Something was wrong.
The next step you tried to take felt too heavy, too clumsy. As soon as you managed to lift it and bring it down, you felt your knee go out. You couldn’t do anything but allow gravity to take over, your body coming into contact with the brick walkway. You tried to catch yourself with your hands, though the second you settled your weight on them, they flew out from under you.
Your tongue felt like lead in your mouth, too numb to move. The feeling of your heart speeding up was concerning and honestly the scariest thing you had ever been through. You could feel your heart beating, but it felt too violent- like it was trying to burst from your chest.
Your actions weren’t your own as you ripped your jacket off, rolling to lay on your side. The fact that you were laying in the middle of the walkway didn’t cross your mind; the only thing you could focus on was the feeling of your body burning from the inside out.
Your phone had flown out of your hand as you had hit the ground, and in a distant part of your mind, you could hear it ringing. You didn’t have the strength to reach out and find it.
Your lips formed words but your throat was too dry to push them out. Just the effort of trying to call out for help was painful, but you continued to try, nonetheless. Your pain-addled brain kept thinking only one thing. Only one name continued to form on your lips as a threatening and malicious darkness seeped into your vision.
**********
“Have they found her yet?”
Shuri’s voice was firm in her questioning, but anyone who knew her could hear the thinly concealed panic in it.
Her and Okoye had raced outside before picking a direction. It wasn’t just any random direction, it was what Shuri had thought of. Her reason for picking the direction was because it led straight to the library, one of your comfort spots. Where else would you go after being unexpectedly kicked out of her dorm?
Okoye barked a question into her kimoyo beads as they ran, but the answer they received back only made Shuri’s footsteps quicken. She had to remind herself that with her recently acquired…abilities, she could now outrun Okoye, so she tried her absolute hardest to keep pace with her.
“Get the talon in the air and locate her. ***Ngoku!”
She heard Okoye’s orders, but they seemed to go in one ear and out the other as soon as Shuri looked ahead. If she thought her heart dropped earlier, that was nothing compared to what she felt as she saw a figure lying in the middle of the walkway, still. Too still.
The gasp she let out was ragged as she recognized the jacket you had walked out of her dorm with. It was easy to completely forget Okoye as she sprinted to your side, instantly dropping to her knees.
Her hands hovered, not knowing where to touch you… not knowing what was wrong with you. She hastily pulled her kimoyo beads off of her wrist, placing them on your chest. She sucked in a sharp breath at how cold your skin was and prayed that it was only because of the cold rain.
“Griot, what are her vitals?”
The beads projected your too slow heart rate above your chest, the sight making Shuri’s hands shake as she placed them against your cheeks.
“She appears to be suffering from bradycardia as a result of some unknown substance. Life scans show a small puncture wound on the inside of her right elbow.”
A quick glance at the mentioned limb proved the AI’s words. There was a small circle, almost imperceptible, in the crook of your arm. There was a bead of dried blood near the site, probably having dropped at the time of the injection.
“Your highness, she seems to be slightly gaining consciousness.”
Shuri leaned over, shielding the rain from falling into your face and calling your name softly. In response, you let out a low, hoarse groan, the action physically hurting you.
“We’re going to get you help, okay? I’m not going anywhere. Can you hear me?”
Your eyes wouldn’t open, but you didn’t need your sight to know that it was Shuri leaning over you. Your lips once again formed her name, though you couldn’t tell if sound escaped you or not.
“I’m here. You think you can stay awake for me? That’s all I need you to do- just stay awake.” You were too out of it to hear the way her voice shook. It was hard to distinguish anything when your body was in a constant state of crippling pain- a pain you had never experienced before.
Shuri could see your lips moving slightly, and she had to lower her head to hear you whisper her name. It gave her a little solace that you were able to tell who she was, though she wouldn’t calm down completely until you were stable and back to your regular self.
“The talon is here. We’ll put her in the cradle and stabilize her.”
Okoye spoke quickly, glancing up as the aircraft arrived and hovered over them. Shuri didn’t dare look away from you, her eyes flickering between your projected vitals and your face.
She’d have to confront her fear and panic at the idea of losing you later; right now, you needed her and she needed to keep a clear head in order to help you. She still didn’t know what you had been injected with, which meant she didn’t have a cure. She didn’t know how to help you, and that thought alone made her chest seize.
She lifted your upper half onto her lap, wiping away the tears that had unknowingly leaked from the corners of your eyes. Seeing you, someone who was usually so lively and who always made her laugh, in such a state of pain was all it took for her to take the situation more seriously.
This person had targeted you; an innocent. Your only mistake was befriending her, and she didn’t need to think hard to assume that you thought the same thing.
Shuri’s gaze stayed on your still figure, willing you to open your eyes or say something else; even as the talon’s levitating technology carefully pulled them inside the ship. The second the ship’s entrance closed, she was pulling you into her chest and placing you in the cradle: the technology used to stabilize and treat the injured until they could get back to their lab.
“Griot-”
“Yes, Your Highness?”
“Stabilize her vitals. Take a blood sample and analyze it for familiar properties, and then compare it to every cure we have in Wakanda.”
She put her hands flat on the cradle as you were slowly sealed inside of it, as if she could reach through the glass and heal you yourself. Bast, she wished she could. Anything to help you.
Even after her AI had done everything requested of it, she stayed in the same spot. Even after she was alerted that you were stabilized for now, she stayed in the same spot. She’d be damned if she left your side after you were hurt because of your connection to her.
“General Okoye.”
She appeared by Shuri’s side almost instantly, eyebrows furrowed and eyes questioning.
“I want you to lead the search for the person that did this.”
They had both known that Okoye would lead the search, as it was her job. But hearing her agree to it calmed the smallest portion of Shuri’s nerves. It reassured her that someone she could trust and someone she knew would get the job done was working on it.
“Of course, Ukumkanikazi. We’ll find them.”
Shuri lifted her eyes, meeting Okoye’s hard and confident gaze, and nodded once in thanks.
She knew that Okoye would beg to differ should she hear her inner thoughts, but this was no longer about her being surveilled. This was about them targeting a woman who she cared immensely for…all to get to her.
Oh, she’d find them. By any means necessary.

Sirens Call
It has been over a year now since you have turned your life around. With the death of Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff, you had no one you could truly depend on to protect you from the government coming for you. Without Steve, and with the desolation of the Avengers, of the family you have created with them, your life of running had ended with finally agreeing to the Government's terms whether you liked it or not.
You stood on the deck of the large boat, the wind blowing through your hair and the salty smell of the ocean filling your lungs. You were a Marine Scientist before your involvement with the Avengers, now you were working for the CIA, and the current objective was to locate Vibranium that is said to be located deep beneath the oceans floors.
You had knew about the abundance of the metal in Wakanda, the durability and power it had when making weapons, Steve Rogers’ shield was an evident example of it. So it was no surprise to anyone, even for you at this point that it was an immense interest to the government. They had ignored Queen Ramonda’s warning of staying away from Wakanda to search for the metal, instead doing the exact opposite to help even out the odds against their own feud with the people of Wakanda. Fight fire with fire if you will. But you were hesitant about this mission. You were now only a scientist, no longer a hero nor were you a solider, and the thought of being one of the individuals responsible for creating a possible weapon of mass destruction made you uneasy.
As the boat bobbed up and down in the rough waves, you can’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right. It felt off. It’s was almost as if the ocean was singing, the gentle breeze of the night winds was calling you out, beckoning you to come closer. You shook your head, chalking it up to exhaustion. You have been working countless of days and even week for this mission, your team’s safety had been your top priority instead of that stupid metal, and your mind was simply playing tricks on you.
“You alright, Doc?” It was Daniel, one of the dozen of agents the CIA had given as your “protection” during this mission, but you knew for a fact that man like him wouldn’t even bother to save you from drowning if he was given a chance. You’ve met men like him in your lifetime and you wouldn’t trust him with your life because of it.
“Nothing that needs your concern, Agent.” You brushed him off, taking another healthy sip of your tea, your eyes had lingered onto the waters. It has been well over ten minutes now since two members of the team have been deployed to submerge from the waters to locate the Vibranium.
“You’ve got nothing to worry about, the water is find and that suit is practically impenetrable.” He scoffed only for you to ignore as you continued watching the line wires that held onto the suits move further and further down. “This should be the least of your concern knowing what will happen if we find nothing.”
“If any of them are hurt or killed, you know what would happen.”  You threatened him right back.
You had made a deal with the devil for your own freedom from the Government. What they had over you and your secret that you wished to put your grave would be buried along with the fallout that you were certain would come one way or another. God only knows what Wakanda would do to you when the truth comes out about your involvement. Your head would be in a silver platter for all you know. It was only a matter on whose table it would lay upon at the end of the day.
“You worry too much, Doc.” He scoffed before leaving you all on your own—peace that you truly needed at this point in time.
But as the night wears on and they have descended deeper into the ocean, the feeling grows stronger. Even as you had headed into the control room to check how they were doing in the water, there was something that was keeping you uneasy.
You can hear a faint humming sound, almost like a song. It was in the same moment you heard the panic from the communications and everyone was scrambling to and fro inside the boat and you were left stock still from where you stood, even as you tried to locate the two members in the waters. You were informed that it was the Wakandans that had attacked.
Your team has been hard at work, scanning the ocean floor with the suits. But as you approach the coordinate where the Vibranium is believed to be located, something had fucked everything you worked so hard for. The suit and the members were gone, your vision of them had gone black. You and what was left of the escorts were scrambling to figure out what was happening.
You tried rebooting the system hoping it was a glitch, but to no avail. It’s as if something is interfering with the signals. Your heart begins to race. Is this some kind of attack? Have you been discovered by Wakanda’s forces?
And then, without warning, the hum that sounded grew louder, almost blaring through. You had watch some begin to put on earplugs but there was something that kept you from doing such a thing even when they were in your pockets as a precautionary measures—old tale’s don’t die it seems when it comes to the unknown of the waters.
It was a sound that you have never heard before, it had your heart racing, palms sweating and from the looks of everyone else that acted far too late, glazed over as they walked closer into the water in a trance. Had it not have been for the gunshot that echoed, the spell would have remained and there would have been more bloodshed that you would not even be able to imagine.
“Move!” Someone had screamed at you and before you could realize what was going on a bulking man had risen from the waters and you were left frozen at the sight of the man as his spear had penetrated into your escort, Daniel right to the wall besides you.
The man was no Wakandan. He had blue skin, some type of breathing apparatus, and the daunting sight of his headgear made out of a hammerhead shark’s skull. The man over towered over you as he took a step towards you, but your adrenaline has finally kicked in and you find yourself making a mad dash back into the control room, hoping to find anything that could help you in the situation.
It was only in this moment that you had put on the earplugs, deafening the sounds of death up above. You tried to find a gun, a knife, anything that could miraculously keep you alive at this point. Left empty handed, you found a small cabinet right under the control panel. Shoving all of its content all over the floor in hopes of messing with their trail of you before you cramped right in, shutting yourself in complete darkness of the cabinet.
In the deafness of the earplugs, you could hear your heart racing and your breathing shallow. You can feel the vibration of footsteps approaching, getting more and more prominent. You know that the attackers were getting closer and closer to finding you.
Your mind raced as you try to come up with a plan instead of just hiding. You know that if you are found, you are dead. You try to remember your training, but your mind was a jumbled mess and everything was well forgotten in the face of the reality of the danger. You can’t think straight, and your hands were shaking with fear.
As the footsteps draw neared, you slowly find yourself removing the earplugs to the sound of voices. You strain to listen, trying to make out what they were saying, but the language was not like you had ever heard before in your life. It was garbled and indistinct, and you couldn’t tell from where you hid just how many people were there.
You close your eyes, trying to calm yourself down. You know that you have to be brave, that you have to stay calm and think rationally if you're going to survive. But as the sound of the footsteps grows louder, your resolve begins to crumble. You're so scared that you can hardly think straight. You feel like you're going to die.
And then, suddenly, you hear the sound of the door opening. You hold your breath, praying that you won't be found. You can feel your heart pounding in your chest, and you're sure that they can hear it too. But as the seconds tick by, nothing happens. You're still hidden in the cabinet, and your attackers haven't found you. You begin to relax, thinking that maybe you're safe after all.
But as you felt the sound of the monitors being broken from above you, you felt all the reassurance turn into nothing but panic and dread.
Your life flashes before your eyes. You think of your family, of your mother that you have never talked to since you had pulled away from her and her people growing up, your friends that have accepted you for who you were, the people you have loved and cherish, the members of your team that had risked their lives for this excavation—all for nothing. You wondered if you would ever see any of them again. The profound sense of sadness and regret, knowing that there was still so many things you have not done, places you have never been able to see, to have the family you have never thought you would deserve to have.
It was the first line of sobs that escaped your lips that caught their attention and the cabinet was torn off the hinges and you were in front of them all. Pulled by the arm by one of them, you were scrambling to pull away from their hold but the spear that was now pointed at you, you were left standing still.
There were five of them, the man from earlier was also here, but it was not him that had your attention—it was the man with the normal skin.
You stand in front of the man, looking him in the eye. You can sense his fury, the anger boiling just beneath the surface. His face is twisted in a scowl, his eyes flashing with an intensity that makes your heart race. You can feel the tension in the air, the electricity that seems to crackle between you.
But as he gets closer, you start to feel a little bit of fear creeping in. You can see the veins bulging in his neck, his breathing becoming ragged and uneven.
In the closer proximity, you took a look at him from head to toe to realize that he wasn’t normal either. Sans the blue skin, he had pointed ears and the physics-impossible wings where his Achilles’ heels should have been.
“Who created the machine?” The man spoke, accent-heavy. His voice deep and daunting, you can feel the heat of his anger, the rage that seems to be directed at you.
You were left frozen at his question.
“All I know is her name is Riri William.” You spoke honestly. When you had learned that the government had a mobile drone that would help in the location of Vibranium, you did not asked too much question knowing what it entails in the future.
The spear you didn’t realize was in his grasp was now pointed directly at you, the sharp blade of it resting on the base of your neck. One wrong move from you and you could slice your throat open. The tears begin to fall freely from your eyes, pleading for him to spare you. Pleading for him that this was all the information that you knew.
As the spear was finally held down, you felt your knees turn jelly realizing you were still alive and he had spared you—for now.
“If I find out you are lying, I will feed you to the sharks.” He warned.
You shook your head.
“I promise you, on my mother’s name. That is all I know. I’m just here as a scientist helping them finding Vibranium, nothing more.”
The man turned to the hulking man, speaking in a language that you didn’t know before the man had approached you and pulling off his breathing apparatus for you.
“What are you doing?” You questioned moving your head away from him.
“You are coming with me back to Talokan. I cannot trust you to keep my people’s existence as a secret.”
Accepting the breathing apparatus, you were lifted onto the man’s shoulder and the adrenaline was slowly dying down at the foreign device covering on your face and your world begins to fade into the dark abyss.

The throne room was quiet, save for the argument that was exchanged between K’uk’ulkan and his cousin and most trusted General, Namora. He was pacing back and forth, while Namora stood stoically, arms crossed in front of her. It was one thing to watch his cousin and Attuma butt heads from time to time and see Namora come out victorious, it was another to have himself be in the middle of it all, more so for his action that led to this argument to begin with.
"I cannot believe you would bring an outsider into our hidden kingdom, K'uk'ulkan," Namora said sternly. "We have always kept our existence a secret, and now you want to invite this woman into our midst?"
He stopped pacing and turned to face Namora.
“She is not just an outsider. She is a scientist from the surface world, she possesses the knowledge that could help us in finding out who we are up against.”
A part of him did wonder why he did what he did. He could have killed you then and there and be done with it. But how you spoke, to your mother’s grave, it was the truth and he trusted a surface dweller so easily because of it. It was pathetic to see you in hiding, in the confinements of a small cabinet, with just the sob that escaped your lips that gave your location away.
He took you in to his nation, knowing he could find a much better use for you for the time being, at least, that was what he kept telling himself and reassuring Namora too in the process.
Namora's expression remained unchanged. "And what if she reveals our existence to the surface world? What if she leads them here, endangering us and our way of life?"
He sighed heavily. “I have thought about that, my child.” He cupped her cheeks hoping to give her the reassurance that she would need in this moment. “But I have also considered the potential benefits that could come from her here in our Kingdom for the foreseeable future.”
“You are willing to risk everything we have worked for, just for a potential benefit? Is it worth it?” Namora questioned pulling away, with her eyes narrowed at him.
“For our people, for their safety, it will be worth it, My child. With her here, our people will be hidden and protected.”
Namora remained silent, considering his words.
“It’s on you. But we must keep a close eye on the surface dweller. We are not to trust her, not until we know if she is safe for our people.”
“I understand, Namora.” He nodded in agreement. “I will take full responsibility for her while she is here. And if she proves to be more of a liability, we will deal with her accordingly.”
Namora’s expression softened slightly.
"Very well. But if anything goes wrong, it will be on your head."
K'uk'ulkan nodded once more. "I understand."
With that, Namora turned and left the throne room, leaving K'uk'ulkan alone to contemplate the potential risks and rewards of his decision.
~
Slowly opening your eyes, feeling disoriented as you tried to make sense of your surroundings. You remember being on the boat, the attack that killed almost certainly everyone in the team, to the memories of your life flashing before your eyes in the confinements of the cabinet. But now, you were in a strange chambers inside of a cavern, surrounded by walls of rocks and water.
Sitting up, you noticed the figure standing in front of you. The same man at the boat. The man stood now with robes on instead of just the green shorts and there was a lack of the spear much to your relief. He sees you finally wake up and turns to face you.
“Welcome,” he says, the same daunting voice from the boat but no longer did it held the anger from that night. “I am K’uk’ulkan, King of Talokan.”
You looked at him confused. Talokan? In your years of working for the Avengers and eventually the CIA, learning about all different kinds of aliens and otherworldly beings, both in the surface and in the water, this was the first time you had ever heard about Talokan. Not even from your own family’s history have you heard of beings just like him.
It was as if he could sense your confusion and fear as he held his hands up in reassurance.
“You are in my chambers.” He explains. “You are safe here, Surface dweller, I have spared you in hopes of learning what your people want with the Vibranium in our kingdom.”
You start to feel a sense of uneasiness. What if you told him the truth, of what the government wanted with the Vibranium, would you finally be killed?
“Do not be afraid.” He continues walking closer to you now, his hand placed on your shoulders. “You are safe here, I have brought you alive for a reason and you have my word that you will not be placed in any harm throughout your stay under my jurisdiction.”
As you start to look around the chamber, you notice something strange. The walls are covered in murals, painted in bright colors. They depict scenes of ancient rituals and ceremonies, with strange symbols and images that you can't quite decipher.
He seemed to have noticed your interest.
“Murals of Talokan,” He explains gesturing to the walls. “They tell the story of my people, of our history, and of our beliefs.”
You start to feel a sense of awe, looking at the intricate designs and patterns. You’ve never seen anything like this before in your life. He moves to the wall, taking a brush and paint from a nearby table. As he starts to paint, you watch in amazement. The colors seem to come to life, swirling and dancing before your eyes.
As he paints, K'uk'ulkan begins to speak. He tells you of the ancient gods, of their power and their wisdom. He tells you of the secrets of the Talokan, and of his origins, of why he was different from the rest of his people. He was mutant, the first born son of Talokan.
“Why am I here then?” You questioned, as much as you now grow interested in his stories, you were more concern of what was needed from you in this moment. “I don’t fit into any narrative in your stories or your people?”
“You know too much, and it is best for you to remain here for the time being while we handle the person responsible for creating the machine.”
“How long?” You questioned.
“For a while.” He spoke nonchalantly. “For the meantime, you can visit Talokan with me or you can spend your days here in the chambers, it is up to you.”
You blinked seemingly having no choice in the matter at this point.
~
It was not what he intended to happen, all he wanted was for Talokan to remain a secret from the surface world. Never did he even think that a glimpse of you and the wonder in your eyes through the water suit did he think he could ever fall in love, with a surface dweller of all people, but here he was.
It had been days now since your arrival, days since your time has been spent in his chambers and in Talokan. How you had made use of your expertise in the waters for their benefit. Fishes and other marine creatures that even the oldest of their scholars did not know of their use was now being integrated into their daily lives.
Y/N.
He had learned so much about you in your stay in his home. How you found yourself making use of your love for the water into your studies to be what you were now. How from so much trials and tribulation in your life, have ended up under the government’s jurisdiction and in your expedition for Vibranium would have been the last part of your agreement with them. Who would have ever thought that someone as shell shock as you would have been a siren in hiding all this time?
He fell in love with you for your love for the water. How the simplest of gifts he would give you would send the biggest and brightest smile on your face. He fell in love with your intention to do better for the world even with everyone against you. He had fallen so madly in love with how easy it had been for his children to open up to you—even Namora that has been far too apprehensive with your stay in Talokan in the beginning.
“Sing me a song, In Sirena?” He asked, his head rested on your lap, your fingers combing through his hair.
In the silence of his bed chambers, he had opened himself to you, about his mother, of the promise he had kept of burying her in their home in the surface world, of the name that was never his own by took to inflict fear to those who were a threat to his people.
He closed his eyes and felt the comfort that came with your touch and of your voice that echoed through his chambers. How your hauntingly beautiful voice placed him at ease, something he was not given as often in his life. He was at peace.
He felt the smile slowly form on his lips as you continued on with your song that was now becoming all too familiar to him. It was a lullaby, one that your own mother had sung to you as a young child, it brought back memories of his own mother, of the love that only she could give you even with the responsibility that rested on his shoulders—he felt like a child all over again.
“When this is all over, if I let you go, will you ever come back for me?” He found himself asking, slowly opening his eyes to look up at you.
You had halted in your song to look right back at him, eyes softening at his question.
“I don’t know,” You answered honestly.
Another thing he had appreciated about you was your honesty, no matter if it would offend him or anyone else, you held honesty that was few and far in between for a surface dweller. He understood your answer, though he was sadden by the reality of it—you were still a captive of his domain, stuck in the crossfire of his mission to protect his people. But he longed for the day that you would stay, even for just his people.
“I understand.”
“I have people that depend on me in the surface. I’ve already lost some of the people I’ve treated like my family—I want to make sure that I explained what had happened to their families.”
He looked away, knowing the weight of his action had on you now. Of the deaths that was to be expected for the protection of his own people.
Their little moment was interrupted at the sight of Attuma arriving.
“What?” He inquired, not leaving his positon on your lap much to your own discomfort and embarrassment.
“The Princess and the scientist are here.” Attuma announced and it was the sign he needed that his moment with you was now over.
~
At the news of someone else from the surface now being held under hostage of Talokan, you had asked K’uk’ulkan about seeing them. No matter how much you were slowly understanding the man’s need to protect his people a part of you still wanted to see and check upon those that are for certain scared of being here.
“Dr. Y/L/N?”
The last thing you would have expected to see was Princess Shuri and Riri Williams here. But then again, it was Vibranium that Talokan was protecting, and having them here was becoming more understandable than anything else.
“Are you two okay?” You asked, checking them from head to toe for any sort of injuries.
“You were reported dead.” It was Shuri that had spoken and your heart fell. But realized that after everything, at the death of your team and escorts, it would have bound to happen that without your body recovered, they would have expected as much.
“They have taken me here to keep quiet.” You answered. You worry that if you said too much it would end with your hurt or worst the women in front of you would.
The guilt was now washing over your system at the realization of your admittance of Riri being responsible for the machine had now led to her here—bringing Shuri along in the process.
“We have to find a way out.” You whispered holding onto their hands, you know it would take some work to find the suits they have used but it was better than whatever they might have planned for them—or for you at the matter.
“No.” Shuri shook her head.
You shook your head. It was not the right thing to do for her. Unlike you, that now had everyone believing you were dead and for certain would face prosecution if the Government found out you were alive, Shuri had so much to live for, someone to that loved her, and everything else in her life that you know for certain that you did not have anymore.
“He wants to go to war with the surface world, and asked me to help him.”
You blinked realizing then and there the reality of the man and his intentions. One of the servants remained, providing food for the three of you and you had hoped that she did not understand anything that you were talking about in this moment. Your eyes lingered to the guards also station around to watch over you and over the two.
“Princess, please.” You held onto her hand, hoping to talk some sense to her even in this very moment. “The world has done all of us wrong, but this is not the right thing to do.” You plead for her, turning your attention towards Riri that was still shaken by everything that was happening.
“Then why did you remain when you could easily have escaped?” Shuri questioned.
Your eyes closed at the reality of her words, how easily you could have escaped because of your powers but chose not to do so. In the moment you did not have a reason to leave, for you genuinely fell in love with Talokan even with the circumstance of it all.
You fell in love. How stupid it was for you to do so, falling in love with your captor but you did. You see your family in this people. How your own was cast to the waters by the very same people that had once cast K’uk’ulkan’s people into the waters. He was just like you, just as much as you were just like him.
“I’ve lost everything, Princess.” You whispered. “I’ve got to no Tony or Nat to back me up anymore, the government is wringing me dry for all that I have until they have the better reason to finally lock me away and experiment on me. He gave me an opportunity to live here and I might just stay because of it.”
In the struggle of it all, you once had Tony and Nat to depend on in your life, but with everything that had happened during the snap and their death to save the entirety of the universe, life has never been the same for you and you linger in the chaos of the life you tried to rebuild for yourself in the process.
Your eyes lingered behind and the sight of Nakia had caught you off guard.
Before you could even act, Nakia had shot the guards on stand by and the servant had now held a knife against Shuri. It was chaos and you did not know who to save in this moment. You held your hands up towards Nakia and pleaded for the servant to let her go, the sight of her hesitation was all you need to know that she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“Please. It doesn’t have to end like this.” You plead to Nakia. “They will let Shuri go, and you can escape safely. Please.”
Nakia held a blank look before talking to Shuri and before long shooting the servant without hesitation. You were quick in your steps, dashing towards the servant as you held onto the wound and your eyes turned towards Shuri and Nakia.
“You need to come with us, Wakanda can protect you. It is the least we can do for all the help you’ve given us in the past.”
You wanted to, but as the servant had held onto you as she fought for her life, it had you second guessing yourself. If it was worth the risk coming back, with not only the Government coming after you but now even Talokan that has shown her nothing but kindness since your arrival.
“You’ve waged the war…all he wanted was to protect his people.” You shook your head refusing to come with them.
You had watched them leave, in the emptiness of the caverns that they stayed in, you found the tears have slowly fallen as you begin to sing the servant a song, hoping to be there for her in her dying moments.
‘Ili-ili tulog anay Wala diri imong nanay Kadto tienda Bakal Papay Ili-ili tulog anay Mata kana tabang mo Ikarga ang Nakompra ko Kay Bug-at Man Sing Putos ko Tabang Mo Ako Anay Ili-ili Tulog Anay Walang diri Imong Nanay Kadto tienda Bakal Papay Ili-ili tulog anay’
“In Sirena?”
The sight of K’uk’ulkan approaching brought all the guilt to the surface as your eyes turned back to the servant girl, how she was begging for her king to save her even when it was far too late for her.
“I tried to stop them.” You whispered closing the servant girl’s eyes as she now laid lifeless in your arms. “I tried to make them go without hurting anyone else in the process.”
You turned to the sight of Namora walking behind at the scene of death at the hands of Wakanda. You did not have the heart to look her in the eyes now, after all the help she had given you in your stay in Talokan—this was the price that you paid. It was better off if you were dead just like the rest of them.
You sobbed as the cousins begin to converse in their language. It was all your fault, from the moment you had accepted the mission to seek Vibranium from under the waters, you have left nothing but death and failure in your midst and now even in Talokan, the same curse has come to present you.
Even as K’uk’ulkan has pulled you away from the servant girl to allow her to be buried, you sobbed over and over even as you were pulled into his chest.
“Why did you stay?” He questioned you, his hand cupped your cheeks wiping what remains of the tears on your cheeks. “You could have left with them.”
“I can’t.” You confessed. “Not like this, not if it means someone dying in the process.”
“Then join us, in our fight.”
“I can’t. Revenge is never the answer.”
~
It was a week now since the attack in the cavern, you have decided to remain in K’uk’ulkan’s chambers for the entirety of it. But you have never talked to the man after what he had done as retribution for Nakia’s attack. The Queen of Wakanda was dead—drowned, and the invasion of Wakanda had set off more conflict than anything you would have ever imagine from them.
“In Sirena,”
You turned, the frown rested heavily on your lips in the moment but you said nothing even as the man approaching you, standing right in front of you from where you sat in the bed. You know why he was hear, it has been a week as the agreement and at any time a war is about to break through and you could only fear the damage and death it would cause in their paths.
“I want you to join me in this fight. After everything with Wakanda is resolved, I want you to be my Queen.”
You closed your eyes, it was not how you would have wanted to stay, not in this circumstance.
“Revenger and retribution is not the answer. It will only cause death and pain for everyone involved.”
“Then please stay here in Talokan, with me, with my people. Live with us and flourish and grow to be what you were always meant to be.”
And just like every instances that he asks you the question, you shook your head. In a perfect world, when things have not been filled with bloodshed, you would have. But in this instance, you couldn’t, not when you had a part in the mess that created the fight between Talokan and Wakanda.
“I can’t.”
“Then when you are ready, you can leave.” He spoke to which had your eyes widen and you looked at him now straight in his eyes, the sadness that came with his words. “Just know that you can never come back or you will be killed on the spot as you are a surface dweller trespassing our home. My love and fondness for you does not change the fact that you are an enemy of Talokan.”
It was cruel for him to say after everything that you have both been through together. But in the end, it was always his people above his own emotions and the love you have come to realize you both shared for each other in the short amount of time in his chambers and in his home.
“Okay.”
~
As he had laid on his back so close to the brink of death, defeated by the Black Panther, his mind had been only on two things. His mother and you. He was ready to die, but his memories were brought back to you as the Princess had the spear by his neck, ready to kill him. He was brought back to your words as you had pleaded for him to reconsider the fight against Wakanda. He was brought back to the hope that you would stay if he made the right decision.
He had yielded, with you and his mother on his mind. He had yielded hoping that you would stay even at the venom of his words when he last spoke to you.
As he had spoken to his people, ordering them to go back to Talokan, his mind was flooded with you—the glimpse of hope that you would remain still and be with him. He swam back to the waters, with his people guiding him throughout, his injuries were slowly healing, but it will take time and he needed to rest.
“I want to be left alone.” He spoke to his servant, brushing them away as they intended to patch him up. He refused, deciding to lick his wound in solitude.
Groggily, he had made his way back to this chambers, the silence broke his heart as he saw no sign of you anywhere. Walking towards his bed, he laid face first, the ache and pain that came with the battle against the Princess did a number on him and it would take a while before his wings would grow back.
He closed his eyes, for the moment, making peace with the silence of his chambers, the ghost of your voice echoing his mind. Your lullaby that would give him the comfort he never truly had in his life.
“K’uk’ulkan?”
His eyes snapped open, confused and devastated, it might be the delirium from his injuries that made him hear voices that were never there. But the panic of the voice continued to sound and it was when he felt the warm familiar hands on his shoulders that he had realize it was not his imagination playing a cruel joke on him.
It was you. You were still here.
“In Sirena,” he spoke turning his head to look at you.
The tear stricken face and the worry that was all too evident in your beautiful features.
“Why are you here?” He questioned, sitting up with you guiding him.
“I didn’t have the heart to leave until I know for certain you were alright.”
It was how quick his heart fluttered by your words, the effect you had on him knows no bound and made it all the more painful when you decided to finally leave.
“It is over, I have made an agreement with Wakanda.” He spoke. He watched the way your shoulders relaxed at this words. “You no longer have a reason to stay, you can leave and never turn back.”
“I can’t.” You smiled gently wrapping your arms around the man, sealing your fate to be with him forever, not only as his partner and companion, but as the Queen of Talokan.

The great war
Pairing: Shuri x fem!reader
Warning: Mentions of drowning, abduction, death, angst, and spoilers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marital problems have been surfacing since T’Challa, Shuri’s brother, died.
She’s been busy and distant with you. She Barely left the lab. Although you were known to be the most patient and understanding person, you were at your limit now.
Fights and arguments arise. It ranges from silly which can be resolved in a day to more serious which would last for a week. Now was one of those intense fights you both have.
As you enter the lab, you told all scientists to leave you two “What are doing?” She asked with annoyance “I’m here to talk to you” You told her “About what? What is it about this time? Cause all I’m hearing from you is how I left a dirty cup in the sink or how I come I never went out with you. Now tell me what complaint you have installed from me again” She angrily said “It’s different” You replied to her, matching her tone “What is different about this time? You know you’ve be-“” Why didn’t you tell me about your mission with Okoye” You opened up to her “Because you’ll make a big fuss out of it and maybe this mission would work,” She said fully facing you right now “Fuss? I worry about your safety and what would work?” You asked her slightly confused about what she told you “Maybe this mission would give us some space from one another. We’ve been fighting over the silliest things and sometimes ignore each other for a day or even a week” She explained
It wasn’t only you two who knows about your fights, it’s the whole palace and maybe she’s right, maybe this mission would give you time to think through things “Okay, I understand” You agreed to what she told you “Come on don’t do this” She said because she knows what’s going on in your head right now “I didn’t do anything, I simply agreed to what you want and I’ll allow it cause you’re right, we need space from one another cause all we’ve been doing is fight each other” You bow your head down to not let her see the tears that's falling in your face "Sthandwa, not like this" She pleaded you "No, no Shuri you're right, it's fine to take the time you need really" You sniffled and hastily wipe the tears that are still at bay.
You faced her with a lip-tight smile "I just want you to be safe okay?" You placed your right hand on her cheek and she leaned into your touch " Wait for me okay?" She asked and you nodded. When you can't keep the tears at bay anymore, you hugged her tight "We'll fix this, okay, tell we'll fix this" You pleaded in her ear. Her own heart was breaking and she hugged you back "We will" She whispered in your ear. She rubbed her hand on your back in a comforting manner as you sobbed. When you eventually calm down, you pulled away slightly but never let her go. She raised both her hands and place them on either side of your cheek. She leaned her forehead to press against yours, intimate but you know what it meant, 'goodbye for now'
"I'll be back okay" She kisses your forehead, longer than it should have and when she pulled away, she pulled away from your grasp and walked away from where you were standing. Okoye was waiting outside, waiting for the princess so that they'll get going.
As she leaves you inside the lab, your knees became weak which caused you to fall. You wept even harder, holding your chest tighter. Of course, the Queen saw your interactions with your daughter, and when she said goodbye to her daughter, she went inside and approached you. She bent down and hugged you close, wrapping you in her arms "Shhh, she'll be back little one" She tried to comfort you and she pulled you up because you have to be strong and that this is only a patchy road that every couple experiences. That day was dreadful for both of you.
==========∞==========∞=============
"What?!" You shouted upon learning that Shuri and the scientist were abducted by this, sea God. You were inside the throne room, standing beside Queen Ramonda " You were with her, how could you let this happen?" You asked the General "My queen, my lady, they were too powerful. I've tried to strike all of them with my spear thinking I killed them but they would be alive again" Okoye tried to explain her side "You failed to protect the princess, you convinced me to let the princess come with you when I said no. You are stripped down from your title until further notice" Okoye stood stunned and when the Dora Milage stump their spears in unison, it was clear that her role as General was done. She tried to gaze upon you, but like the Queen, your gaze held anger. You felt angry and guilty, guilty of not being able to protect your wife, and now she's held captive by this Talokan people.
When the council was released, you were about to walk out when the Queen called out for you "We will need help" She said and you question her where "Let's go to Haiti" That's all she said "Prepare the aircraft" She told you and you nodded. You were still questioned as to who she wanted to meet in Haiti but you have a strong feeling that you know who it was.
==========∞==========∞=============
"She's amazing," Riri said as Shuri was done telling her about you "I know, that's why I married her" Shuri proudly say but was quickly deflated "I miss her," She said. Shuri didn't want to share about your problems and what both of you were facing right now. "Well I'm not an expert but I asked my grandma what was the secret to a long-lasting marriage, she simply said, "it's a secret that only the couple knows" which kinda made sense but hey I was a kid back then," Riri told her. Her grandma is right, the secret is just between you two.
As she gets quieter, she thought of the happy days. The day you two got married. It was after the blip, she proposed to you after you both returned after being snapped. Afraid of losing you again. As she got deeper, she remembered the fights. She thought about it and you were so patient with her, but she was abusing that. She never realized how she abused the patience you held for her and those fights were a sign that the thread was running thin now.
Oh, how she wishes she could go to you right now and hug you tight. Her train of thought was broken when a Talokan guard was shot dead. Riri and Shuri sat up to see who it was. "Nakia, this could cause war" Shuri angrily told her "Your mother and your wife are looking for you right now," Nakia said and rushed the two of them to escape.
==========∞==========∞=============
When Grio announced the arrival of the three, you couldn't help but rush to Shuri. You slammed your body against hers and hugged her tight. When you pulled away you spoke, "I'm glad you're safe, are you hurt? Did they hurt you?" You frantically asked and searched everywhere if there was a sign of injury "No but I'm here now" She assured you and she placed both her hands against each side of your cheek and caresses them to know she was here and well. You smiled genuinely that time and wrapped your arms again to hold her again. She hugged you back with one hand on your waist and the other on the back of your head. You were glad she was safe and here in your arms.
When she introduced you to Riri, she guided you to her with her hand around your waist. "You must be Y/N, your girl talks about you a lot," Riri said which made Shuri shush her. You chuckled of course and chat with Riri. She tells you about what happened and that she's sorry for what she did. You love talking to her and as Shuri stood by your side, looking over you and it's like how she felt at the beginning of your relationship. She's falling in love with you all over again, she couldn't help but lean in and kiss your forehead.

Shuri explained how there's a possibility of a war happening. The four of you were at the throne room finding a strategy to end this war when suddenly, sounds of surging waters and screams were heard in the city. Shuri volunteered to go to the city and save people as many as she could.
As the three of you were standing inside the throne room, looking for Kukulkaan, you saw him looking for something and when he saw what he was looking for, he approached it.
He flies over to where the three of you were located. You know what he wants so you stood a little closer to where the Queen was and stood beside her. "He wants me, so take Riri to safe a place," She says but you weren't having it. Your wife was kidnapped, and you didn't want any harm to be brought upon the family anymore, so you called Riri to take the Queen away. But the three of you halted when Namor stared at the three of you and when his gaze went to Riri, he turned around and flew away. "Riri now, take the queen to a safe location now" You commanded "What about you?" Riri asked "I'll hold him off but for now, go," You said as you saw Namor flying back and holding a lot of water bombs in his hands. "We can't leave you here" The Queen called out for you but before you could reply, you felt water gushing inside the throne room. Namor has thrown all the bombs before you could even attack him.
Shuri saw the scene unfold and told Okoye to drive faster to get to you and her mother. “Okoye faster now!” Shouted the former general.
You took the blow and the three of you sunk into the depths of the water. When you eventually gained consciousness and saw the Queen and Riri who had fallen with you, you swam towards them and held them to swim back to the surface. Along the way, the queen regained her conscious back and helped you swim back up.
When you three reached the surface area, the queen helped Riri up, but slowly you lose consciousness and when dark spots begin to invade your vision, you lost it completely. Suddenly, Nakia arrived so she helped the Queen to save both of you. When Shuri arrived, she saw her mother well, but when her eyes fell on who Nakia was saving, her heart sank. She tried to reach towards you, but M'baku was there and held her tight "Sthandwa, don't do this to me now!" She screamed as Nakia was still trying to save you. Riri started coughing the water out, so the Queen turned her sideways.
"Y/N you can't do this to me, not now!" She screamed again. Queen Ramonda was quick to hold her daughter down, but Shuri wasn't calming down anytime soon until she hears you cough out the water in your system.
"Come back Y/N!" She screamed again, desperate to be by your side, trying to flee out of M'baku and her mother's grip. "Help me, Sthandwa!" She screamed over and over again as Nakia attempted to save you.

"Whatever you want, don't call me." you said as you threw your kimoyo beads and your engagement ring on the ground before stomping it and breaking it under your heels.
Blinking back tears, you pushed her off you as you turned around and left the lab, slamming the door behind you. Her cries echoed through the room as you picked up your suitcase as you left the palace and wakanda for good.
That was more than 4 years ago. To think you were happy. Marrying into the royal family, a strong bond with both T'Challa and Queen Ramonda but especially the love of your life, Shuri.
You guys have known each other for the longest time, being the daughter of the chief of the Border Tribe, you and Shuri have known each other since birth. Bonding over your love for tech. Not only did you have one of the highest IQ's, you were also one of the strongest warriors Wakanda had. Your mother is a Dora Milage so you trained everyday with them since you could crawl.
Everything was going great for the both of you until Shuri started getting engulfed in her tech work. She worked overtime to prove to the elders that she could also be useful but it angered you. Not because she was expanding her work but because she wasn't making time for you. She dismissed you, she didn't even let you enter the lab sometimes and that was where you worked. Eventually, you got sick of it, sick of everything and just left. For the better. Or was it?
"Miss Y/N, you have arrived." your driver says as you snap out of your thoughts. The car door opens for you as you steop out in white pumps and a black bodycon dress, your curls resting all around you as you straightened your gold chain.
The Dora Milage immediately bowed to you as you noticed your mother smiling at you but your face remained expressionless. You walked into the palace as you muttered under your breath. "i can't believe I'm back here again."
You walked through the palace corridors as you stopped in front of the lab, 2 Dora Milage warriors on either side of the door. You were contemplating entering when you heard 2 women's voices.
Turning around, you were met with Okoye and Nakia looking at you.
Nakia immediately embraced you as you hugged her back, realizing how much you missed your friends.
"Y/N...it pained us so much when you were not there for T'Challa's funeral." Nakia started as Okoye stood still and silent, not looking over to you.
"I was busy...I'm sorry. Send the queen my condolences-" you start but Okoye cut you off sharply.
"The queen is dead." She said, almost as if she was choking on her words as Nakia looked down.
A hand flew to your mouth as you felt your eyes watering. Queen Ramonda was like your mother figure, so caring and loving.
"That is why we asked you here. I'm guessing you didn't read the envelope?" Nakia asked as you tilted your head to the side.
"There was an envelope?"
"Typical." Okoye kissed her teeth as you turned to her to see her smiling.
"Okoye..."
"You know I can't be mad at you for long. Small small girl, come here." She held out your arms as you chuckled, hugging her tightly but when you pulled back, both Okoye and Nakia had serious expressions on their face.
"We need your help Y/N...help the country. Help Shuri." Nakia voiced out as your mood soured when she mentioned your ex's name but she gave you a look. "Please, put your petty beef to the side. She hasn't been herself lately, she's been engulfing herself in her work, you're the only one we know that can help her."
"Is this what you called me for?"
"Not all, we also need help defeating a treacherous villain. Namor. All the information has already been sent to your...iPhone." Okoye said the last part in disgust as you rolled your eyes playfully.
"Sorry ma'am, but it's how you keep up with stuff out of country nowadays."
"I still don't know why you didn't take your kimoyo beads with you. They're great advances."
"Yea but she built em didn't she."
"And it was your design."
"Look, let's not get into battle of the tech here alright?" Nakia said, as she looked between you and Okoye. "Just please help Shuri."
"And the country." Okoye added as you laughed slightly.
You took a sigh and nodded, dismissing them with your hands as you 'promised' to help Shuri. Bullshit, you couldn't give 2 shits about that woman. Your face turned expressionless once more as you entered the lab, startled when a voice started talking out of nowhere.
"My queen, an unknown woman has entered the lab."
"Thank you Griot." Shuri said sarcastically as she didn't even look up from her work.
Your fists balled up slightly. Wow, nothing changed even from when you guys were together. You sighed, maybe you should give her benefit of the doubt, her whole family is gone.
You squinted your eyes, looking around, not knowing where she was.
"What do you want?" her voice came from above and behind you.
You looked up before turning around to see her standing atop some stairs. Your breath hitches, she looks so different than before. She ditched the braids now, her hair shorter than usual. Fades at the sides with curls on the top. It fit her. You took in her white tracksuit and sneakers, tatted hands, and her body got a bit more muscular than last time. She had a ring on her fourth finger. Was she married? The ring looked nothing like your engagement ring and you felt a slight pang in your chest but you shook it off.
You look up to her face but she wasn't even looking at you, she was studying something on her kimoyo beads. Every bit of arousal just disappeared. What an ick, she's still more focused on her work than anything else.
"I was sent to help with defeating Namor."
"Riri?"
"Y/N."
As soon as you said your name, her head darted up as she looked in your direction. You stood still, your hands in front of you as you looked straight ahead, unbothered, which you were.
"Oh uhm.."
"Is Riri your wife?" You ask, motioning towards her ring on her fourth finger.
"Why do you care?" She raised an eyebrow, a stern expression fixated on her face as a frown appeared.
"I don't.." you trailed off as you took note of her face, images of her crying and begging on the lab floor the day you left rushing your mind as you abruptly stopped and shook your head.
"You can go to your quarters, you are not needed here today."
"No thanks, I'll stay. I am here to protect my country, no other intentions needed." You walk up the stairs and right past her as you walk over to your former office and stop, staring in disbelief.
It was decorated with red and yellow and the name "Riri" was spelled out on the wall with an ironman-looking suit standing in the corner of it.
"Of course." You nod your head slightly, of course your office wasn't going to stay the same. She's obviously moved on. You start towards a chair but stop as you hear her right behind you. She grabbed your arm slightly, making you turn around to face her. She still towered over you, even after all this time.
"I got it under control."
"Really? Because if so, Nakia and Okoye wouldn't be begging for me to help you."
Before she can respond, a young woman around our age comes into the lab and looks up at Shuri.
"My love." she said as she ran up to hug her and Shuri hugged her back lovingly, letting go of my arm.
I frowned at the sight and looked away. I shouldn't even be feeling like this, I broke up with her, I'm the asshole.
"Namor...he left a message."

All 3 of us walked towards the throne room, Shuri in the middle and ahead of us, her hands locked in with the woman who I learned to be named Malia. She wasn't Wakandan but American, you can tell from her accent. I scoffed at this.
The whole time, I stole glances at her. She wasn't even that pretty. Her dress is too short, this is a work area. Is she trying to seduce the elders or what? What's up with those shoes? They're unprofessional. Straightened hair? Really? Americans have no value for their natural hair. "Stop it" i said to myself under my breath. why am i comparing myself to another woman? I don't even care for Shuri, she can suck my clit for all i care.
As we approached the throne room, Shuri took her seat on the throne and I watched Malia sit down in the seat next to her. My former seat. I stood next to the Dora Milage, specifically my mother as I watched the two with hooded eyes.
Okoye pulled out her kimoyo beads where it showed Namor at the border of Wakanda, promising to be back and rid the whole country.
The whole time I was more focused on Malia and Shuri. The way Shuri's hand moved up and down her thigh, the way she looked at her. How unprofessional. And in front of the guards too?
"What is she doing here?" An elder spoke out, causing me to snap out of my trance. Everyone was now looking at me and I put on my best poker face, looking up at them.
"She is still a Wakandan, whether you like it or not." My mother said, standing up for me as I eyed the elder down. I clicked my tongue slightly as he turned away.
After the brief meeting and discussion of what to do, I made my way out of the throne room, right behind Malia who offered to show me to my sleeping quarters.
As we entered my apartment in the palace, I turned to her and raised an eyebrow. "Are you and Shuri married? I need to know whether to address to you as my queen or not." I say, trying to hide the fact that I'm prying for information.
I can see the question catch her off guard as she smiles sweetly at me. "No, not yet. This is just a promise ring, she got it for our anniversary, a few weeks ago, pretty right? She made it specifically for us." She showed her hand as I looked at the ring. It was beautiful and it had the initials "S.M" carved into it.
"Crazy how..if you hadn't left, this would've been you." She said under her breath, her tone sounding less friendly than it was before.
I look up at her, her expression looking more stern as we held eye contact momentarily. It was ice cold and the tension in the room could cut blocks. But then she smiled, her sweet expression coming back to her face.
"That's all, I hope you have a nice stay in Wakanda." She smiled even wider before turning around and leaving the apartment, leaving me to feel unsafe that she knew where I slept.

That night as I pulled my dress down, I heard a knock on my door. I didn't open it, still occupied with my dress. After a few moments, the door opened.
"I thought I locked that door.."
I turned around to be met face to face with Shuri. My dress fell down, and pooled at my legs. The only thing stopping her from seeing my naked body was a white savage x fenty lingerie set which was even more teasing if I'm being honest.
She was silent for a few moments, looking at me up and down before she gulped and then looked back at my face.
"I didn't know you were in here."
She went silent for a few moments before I looked at her puzzled.
"Not even a sorry?"
"For?"
"Practically barging in my room and then staring me down."
"You're in your head."
"Really? We're gonna pretend the Queen of Wakanda isn't in my bedroom, talking to me as I'm half naked."
"It's nothing I haven't seen before." she blurted out as I stand still, stunned at her words and she too also seems stunned at what she just said.
"I.." she starts but I shake my head, turning around.
"I need you to get the fuck out my space." I say and she doesn't respond until I hear the door opening again.
"I'll need to see you again in the morning and discuss some things about the whole Namor situation. Meet me in my lab at 10 AM sharp, don't be late." She says sternly before I hear the door slam shut.
"Shit, 4 years of sexual frustration does something to you." I say, sighing deeply as I pick up my dress, throwing it on my bed before going to my suitcase to grab my pajamas.
I'm going to hate it here, for sure.
