Mostly Disjointed Ramblings About Game Shows, and Why Making Good Game Shows is Easier Now Than They Have Ever Been (mostly as a letter to myself)
When it comes to producing game shows (at least as far as they go in the USA), the "here's how you play the game" is often one of the furthest down the depth chart on "reasons why this should be A Thing in commercial television." Budget, targets, media planning, strategies, and contingencies are often what will get a commissioning executive's attention. A lot of time here lately they are interested in a known quantity of some sort being attached to it (being successful in another market, a well-known brand or celebrity on board with it, etc). That was meant neither as a complaint nor a complement, simply the state of play as currently on the field.
That doesn't mean your game shouldn't have some thought into it, just that media buyers are looking for a lot of other things in addition to how unique or compelling your game idea is. Ideas are everywhere, ability and the demonstrations thereof are a little harder to come by. Just know that your audience are going to be the ones interested in the game, one that is just as fun to watch others play as it is to play along at home. The point is to cut out the middleman and play to the people who will be interested in what you have to offer, not somebody's conception of what will interest the right number of the right people for what they need.
The fantastic thing about the progress of knowledge and technology (as witnessed just over the course of my lifetime, at least) is that the internet has lowered so many barriers to entry that if you have at least a microphone and some kind of computer device to connect it to, the only reason to not make something is lacking the knowledge of how to put it all together (a hurdle I'm still trying to cross myself, but flight day is coming).
Don't worry about stats or metrics or demographics-- If you make a good game, the rest will follow. Everybody complains about nothing being on or that the wrong shows keep going while the good ones get cancelled. Not everybody is a Fred McPheely Rogers, because he felt that the best way to fight bad content was to produce the content he felt the world needed. I would like to follow his lead in that regard.
I wholly cop to the idea that this smacks as more than a little self-important coming from an amateur quiz producer in thinking the world needs game shows, but I'm focusing on Mr. Rogers' actions on this: he made what he wanted, how he wanted to make it, and he made it for a number of reasons that weren't solely to do with money. He was successful with the resources he had available; whether that was because of or in spite of his limitations is a debate for another day. An unexamined faith is worthless, as are unexamined motivations. A good project is easier to complete with the right motivations behind it.
Sturgeon's Law holds that 90% of everything is shit. Who cares? Make your shit anyway.
Even if you don't roll a crit on this attempt, take notes. Even if you crit-fail, nothing is a failure so long as learning took place. Find points in the logistics where things have slowed down/broken/were absolutely non-functional. Find ways to untangle the knots you can, cut and reroute around the knots you cannot. Be honest with assessing your own work, but give yourself the same credit you would give a friend showing off their art to you. This is something you want to be proud of, work to give them something they can be proud that you would share it with them. Art is never a gamble, creating anything is never a gamble. You will have better standing to get that 10% on your next attempt, even if you draw nothing more from it than the joy and satisfaction from the act of creation and seeing something you've always wanted to see in this world.
Put a game together, write and research some questions for it, learn OBS, invite your friends to a discord call and have them play it. Put it online.
Congratulations, you have now joined a pantheon of notable people including (but not limited to) Goodson/Todman, Barry/Enright, Hatos/Hall, Heatter/Quigley, Stone/Stanley, and Dewey/Chatham/Howe.
Game shows don't have to run on the payout offered or the people hosting it. the British Broadcasting Corporation has certainly got a lot of mileage out of the idea that people will line up and wait months to win a punchbowl* if it gives them the chance to show off their knowledge of something very few people may have even heard of. Lord knows in the episodes I have seen of Mastermind, there have been artists or writers or historical events I've looked up afterwards because of the questions a contender answered on them. Which I think is an absolutely wonderful byproduct from it.
Information Please ran for years on radio on the driest game possible –a simple question bee with multipart questions sent in by listeners with a reasonable request for accuracy attached (usually asking them to get 3 parts out of 4 right)– but it was the American QI before QI was even a thing. It worked on the strength of the panel's interplay with one another as they would bust each other's chops (or moderator Clifton Faddiman's chops for some of the questions he sprung on them), sometimes it would be in a guest panelist showing off knowledge of a field nobody would have thought was in their wheelhouse. (Groucho Marx and his always being there for questions about Gilbert & Sullivan may not have been one of those times, it was something of an understanding that the man was crazy for their operas over the multiple times he guested on there, even though he never got to perform in one until the Bell Telephone Hour had him play Koko in The Mikado. Considering that the part of Katisha usually was being played by Margaret DuMont-types, it's not like Groucho wasn't dropping hints his entire career)
Got a group of friends for a podcast but can't decide on a how or why for it? Make it a panel game. There are many ways to gamify a conversation, games that provide the launching point for conversations, and what makes them work often times lies in the panelists' frustration in working within the constraints the game presents. Don't worry if you think you'll be bad at them, people love to laugh at situations that didn't (but could just as easily have) happen to them.
If you're lost as to figuring out what to play, look up what has been played around the world-- One of my favorite types of games are the ones that have inspired extracurricular clubs outside of their productions: Indian college students have made the BBC's Just a Minute into something of a high-level academic tournament akin to American debate clubs.** The dearly-departed moderator for Just a Minute, Nicholas Parsons, took a trip to India for the BBC to document not just one of those tournaments but the program's fanbase there. Just a Minute's Indian Adventure was the documentary produced back in 2018 (coinciding with their recording episodes of JaM in Mumbai), do give it a watch if you have the opportunity.
In the Cyrillic-speaking world, the game show that has got homebrew of its own going is known as Что? Где? Когда?† It is one of the few shows that has the "Underground Countdown" subculture from The I.T. Crowd being a thing in real life. Not just in other countries doing their own version on television, but in regular tournaments where all the teams write questions to try and stump all the other teams, while trying to solve the riddles the other teams brought with them. I mean, all we're missing is the hardest phonk soundtrack you've ever heard and some adidas-branded clothing and you'd touch every single stereotype Americans associate with Russia in one package. Bingo, a full house, hands-down, eyes-up.
Old Man Goodson could have set a real nasty precedent back in the 1940s if he and Bill Todman thought to patent the lockout system he used for 'Winner Take All,' (nobody ever tried to do a quiz set up like a jump ball in basketball until that point) but their lack of capitalization on what they had has been the genre's overall gain as far as what or how to get in. See a game you like that ain't on anymore? Write your own, original questions for it, don't use their graphics, their sounds, or their trademarks, and get to producing something. Learn from Reg Grundy. Only seven stories in the world but an infinite number of ways to tell them? There's an equivalent amount of games in the world, and an equally equivalent number of ways to play them.
The idea in jazz is that you have to learn to imitate before you can innovate, to make your own contributions to the genre. I see no reason that same logic cannot apply to game shows or those looking to making any kind of art. Better content begins with you.
—in terms of a work update, I still ain't cracked shaders in Godot 4, but I am still trying. If I can get past this, I can start putting them on the main scene, and start getting the logic for it built. More info as it develops.
Sniff you jerks later.
Footnotes:
* [a very fine, artisanal, handcrafted crystal punchbowl that the BBC commissions especially for Mastermind, but a punchbowl nonetheless. For American conventions in the genre, prize descriptions containing fewer than ten words in it are usually reserved for 'zonks' or gag prizes; a cultural difference that is neither good nor bad but simply exists because the more airtime spent on it, the more the manufacturer/supplier/sponsor paid the production in order to have George Gray or Rod Roddy or Gene Wood or Johnny Gilbert say that about it. And Americans have been conditioned to be more impressed by prizes than they are by trophies.
That's also without mentioning the fact that British game show productions work a different compensation scheme for their contestants than their American cousins; a lot of times it will include spotting a contestant the train fare and a hotel room to be at the studio on tape day, as opposed to the absolutely non-existent mass transit system we have in the USA. Whatever; that's a soapbox for another day for a mentally-ill neurodivergent trying to keep their head down as it is in a country that absolutely loathes the disabled.]
** [The OG radio show works like this: one player is given a topic (e.g. "my favorite joke") and, on the moderators' cue, will speak on that topic for as long as they can without violating one of three standing rules: "Hesitation" (meaning you can break this rule if you don't immediately begin speaking on the moderator's cue), "Repetition" (down to the word, but some allowances are given for words as part of the topic itself), or "Deviation" (Stay on target. Your anecdotes have to have some bearing on the topic. Objections on factual inaccuracies stated by the speaker have been upheld as deviation, but monologues that are presented as flights of fancy are more or less allowed as long as they conform to the three standing rules). The other participants are listening in to raise objections whenever the speaker breaks one of those rules, and the prevailing party to an objection is given a point -- if overruled, the object-ee continues on the moderator's cue, if sustained, the object-or assumes the role as the current speaker on the topic to be continued on the moderator's cue. The topics are timed, and the current speaker when a minute ("Just a Minute") of total speaking has elapsed is given a point.
The Rule of Funny, although never stated outright, takes precedent over all of those rules; the moderator is empowered to award points for objections that normally would be overruled but drew a decent amount of laughs from the audience (the current speaker is still awarded a point for prevailing on an objection). The moderator is also empowered to have the audience decide stalemates based on a cheer/boo system on the moderator's cue, the loudest noise prevailing.
These particular rules do not appear to apply to the collegiate play I have seen, which I totally understand the reasons for why they need to would do that. Collegiate play also includes an extra rule or two to discourage competitors from metagaming, which I also totally understand.
From what I can tell, JaM is the first British game show format to ever be imported to American television screens. It ran on the DuMont network as One Minute Please in 1954 but could not find a sponsor after a year. Unfortunate, but that seemed to be the operative word for the DuMont Network's fortunes.]
† ['Chto? Gde? Kogda?' or literally 'What? Where? When?'-- totally different kettle of fish from the American Who, What, or Where Game
A game show that has flourished across two modes of production, the game's usual play loop involves a team of six experts playing against the viewing audience. Viewers send in riddles (a lot of downright clever ones from ones I've amateurishly-translated) for the experts to argue over for sixty seconds before the nominated captain for that round submits an answer. If the experts get it right, they take the round. If not, the viewers take it. Regulation matches are a best-of-13 affair, with a tournament structure I've not quite understood having the expert teams vie for position in order to square off against the viewers in an annual championship game.
Tom Scott's absolutely phenomenal Laterial is the closest analogue I know of currently in the English-speaking world (and if anybody in this world decided to become The Riddler in real life, we would be doomed seven ways to Sunday if his producer, David Bodycombe, decided he was to be That Guy. He's been a cool dude in my interactions with him but I'm still gonna try to stay on his good side, just in case). In 2011, Merv Griffith Productions took the black-tie-formal aesthetic from the original Russian production and converted it into a high-stakes, James-Bond-at-a-Bacharat-Table-tensioned type affair (complete with Authentic Mancunian Vernon Kay in a white tux to emcee) as Million Dollar Mind Game for ABC, a network who (apparently not knowing what to do with it) burned it off putting it on Sunday afternoons against late-season NFL games that were so inconsequential that not even season ticket holders were bothering to show up to.
But the original show and the story of its creation are why I put Ch?G?K? on my shortlist game shows as a legitimate work of art, along with Korea's Genius Game and USA's $25,000 Pyramid and a bunch of other shows that have really come to stretch even the least-plausible definition of 'shortlist.' ]

dream & george; falling in love
Dream: 'Have either of you talked about liking each other in the past?' George: *Scoffs* Dream: ... Well— George: *Giggles* Dream: Well, none of the answers fit. But I'd say, like, we've talked about 'whether' ... George: The weather? Dream: Yeah.

Dream: The realisation that, once again, I met someone that's not going to be my friend, but something more. They were never meant to be my friend in the first place. I can't avoid it. If I'm going to fall in love, I'm going to fall in love. So this song is a cry to please be gentle, please don't make me even more paranoid.

Dream: I want that part of my life to be private, you know? Regardless of who that person is ... Once the cameras are off, once we're not doing anything, it's our time. It's me and you. There's no one else. No one else exists in the world, regardless of the fact that there's thirty-million people that are looming over.
Dream: Because I'm famous and because I have all this attention on me—when I'm in my normal life it's like, I want to put the people in my life in the spotlight and make sure they feel that way. But then there's lyrics like 'the celebrity in my bed' and 'close the curtains now you're all mine' ... It's about, you know, that special someone in your life, and how in my mind, because I feel so special, I want them to feel that same specialness. So, yeah, it's about relationships and how I want that person to feel special like I do.

dream @/dreamwastaken: .@/GeorgeNotFound you've had such a big impact on my life I don't even know where to start. helping me code my videos sometimes, helping with random ideas within videos, encouraging me and always being the light in the room to make things even just a little bit brighter. you took a chance on me out of university, making thumbnails and coding for scraps because we wanted to make it big and I’m proud to say that we did it and I’ll have an appreciation for you for the rest of my life because of your friendship, kindness, and love you’ve shown me. love you man. idc if you’re never serious or if we joke around a lot, you have a place in my heart and I’m looking forward to finally meeting you and taking our next step in content creation and friendship. LOVE U
Dream: 'Spotlight' is a song I wrote about making that special someone in my life feel as special as they truly are ... I want to be there to support them through the ups and downs, and make them feel like they have a million fans screaming cheering them on, even if it's just my voice echoing a million times. They are the most important person in the world and the only one in that spotlight of love and admiration, and I want them to know that.
a lot of my future is your future

Headbone Interactive History and Lost Media Search
While perhaps currently most recognized for Bungie the Frog, from its Gigglebone Gang edutainment games. Headbone Interactive was a video game company with an interesting history and output. Headbone Interactive now has a legacy of company pivots, half remembered nostalgia, and Lost Media. Before going bankrupt in 2001, it was once critically acclaimed and positioned as a possible competitor with much better remembered Edutainment companies Humongous Entertainment (Freddie Fish, Pajama Sam, Spy Fox) and The Learning Company, (Reader Rabbit, Carmen Sandiago, Cluefinders)
Founded in the early 90s and releasing their first games in 1995 on PC and Mac, including Elroy Goes Bugzerk, intended for ages 8 to 108, and The Gigglebone Gang: Pantsylvania, for ages 4-8, both the first of Headbones two game series. These games established a distinctive visual style in their use of composited black and white photographs as backgrounds for its cartoonish characters and props.
The games were Edutainment titles, with the Gigglebong Gang series being largely creative and exploratory due to its young intended audience, now somewhat notorious for the way its host looked and spoke directly to camera, sometimes from very close, as well as clearing the screen of unwanted creations by eating them. Meanwhile, Elroy series, sometimes called What the Heck will Elroy Do Next?, was a point and click adventure with animated cutscenes, that, meeting children where they were at with a story about a bored kid’s quest to find a cool enough bug to defeat his 10 year old nemesis, taught facts about real insects along Elroy and his Dog Blue’s journey to find the elusive Technoloptera.

Both games sold and reviewed well enough to get sequels, Gigglebone Gang the same year with Alphabonk Farm, and Elroy in 1996 with Elroy Hits The Pavement, that introduced Elroy’s friend Sid and leaned further into spies and conspiracies, teaching more diverse problem solving and elementary science.
Also in 1996, Headbone released another Gigglebone Gang title, Infinity City) and an interactive dress up game about Elroy and Sid putting on short plays, Elroy’s Costume Closet. As well as a game intended as the first of a new series, Iz and Auggie: Escape From Dimension Q, marked for ages 10 to 110, and featured more complex puzzle solving as well as incomplete failure states.

In 1997 the final Gigglebone Gang Game (World Tour), released, and after that, the story gets a little interesting.
Headbone Entertainment had established a Company website as early as 1996, and kept it updated with the ability to receive a demo disk of their offerings, mail order their games, and even download additional content for Elroy’s Costume Closet, with new outfits released periodically and often themed to holidays.
An archive of the website’s Coming Soon page from January of 1997 lists two titles as Upcoming, Velma’s Costume Closet, another interactive dress up game, this time for the Gigglebone Gang, and Elroy: King of the Jungle, both slated for a Summer 1997 release.
Neither of these games, can be proven to have released, in 1997 or otherwise, though there is an unsubstantiated claim on the Headbone Interactive Wikipedia page that Elroy: King of the Jungle, received a “Limited Release” in 1999.

Around 1998, the company restructured, and attempted to diversify. Headbone.com pivoted from the landing page for a game company to The Headbone Zone, a child friendly corner of the internet including, a moderated on-site forum, online based email service, and several in browser games. Including quiz based games Riddleopolis and Scienceopolis, Management sim Rags to Riches, and Elroy’s Netscapade, later renamed the Headbone Derby, a series of educational challenges designed for school computer classes, intended to teach students how find information online in order to help Elroy, and later Iz and Auggie, solve mysteries.

Camp Champ, an interactive collectible trading card game on Headbone Zone, was sponsored by GoGurt and interfaced with codes on the packaging to unlock additional cards.
At its peak, Headbone Zone supposedly had over 350,000 registered users.
In 1999, Headbone Interactive also attempted to break into animation with their distinctive vector art style. This included thirteen 3-minute episodes of a cartoon called Fidgetmore Academy for ABC Family, the pilot for an Elroy cartoon, Elroy & Blue: The 11th Caller, and a series of ten 1 minute interstitials created for the Discovery Channel, Hugo Takes a D-Tour, only three of which are preserved on former Headbone Employee Chuck Gamble’s YouTube page.

Chuck Gamble’s online Portfolio includes both direct mention of and concept art for the mysterious Elroy: King of the Jungle in the form of character designs for Ooga and Doc. Both seen and named as “Professor von Hefflemelon (the pre-eminent Jungleologist) and Ooga (the Big Jungle Guy)” in the blurb provided in the 1997 coming soon page. Though they are now currently listed under the header for Headbone TV as part of the unrealized Continuing Adventures Disasters of Ooga & Doc.

The Elroy Games section of his portfolio also stated that “We ultimately did 4 discs involving Elroy and his dog Blue.” Which, in addition to Bugzerk, Hits the Pavement, and Costume Closet includes either Elroy: King of the Jungle, or the Headbone Interactive Take Us For a Spin sampler Demo Disk.

How I Earn Over $1,500 Monthly from STON.fi—No Trading Required

Most people overlook the passive income potential of decentralized exchanges (DEXs). While trading is the first thing that comes to mind, STON.fi offers multiple ways to earn without the stress of market speculation.
Over the past few months, I’ve built a consistent income stream of over $1,500 per month just by leveraging STON.fi’s ecosystem. This isn’t about quick flips or risky trades—it’s about staking, farming, content creation, and referrals.
Let’s break it down.
1. Staking STON for Governance Rewards
STON.fi allows users to stake their $STON tokens and earn governance tokens like Arkenston and Gemston.
These governance tokens hold value and can be used within the ecosystem or converted into other assets. This creates a steady flow of rewards, making staking one of the easiest ways to earn passively on STON.fi.
For those holding $STON, staking is a no-brainer—it’s a simple way to grow holdings without additional effort.
2. Farming Pools—Maximizing Returns
Providing liquidity to STON/USDT V2 pools is another income stream that delivers consistent rewards.
Farming pools on STON.fi offer high-yield returns, and by supplying liquidity, users get rewarded in additional tokens. Managing impermanent loss is key here, but with the right approach, farming becomes a solid strategy for earning passive income.
It’s an efficient way to put assets to work instead of letting them sit idle.
3. Shelter 42—Earn from Knowledge & Referrals
Shelter 42 is an intellectual challenge program where participants earn rewards for correctly answering blockchain-related questions.
Beyond the quiz aspect, there’s a referral structure that provides additional earnings. Every referred participant brings extra benefits, making it a dual-income opportunity.
For those who enjoy competitive knowledge-based programs, Shelter 42 adds an engaging and profitable element to the STON.fi ecosystem.
4. Content Creation Contests—Web3 Earning Beyond Trading
STON.fi runs monthly content creation contests, rewarding users for producing high-quality content.
I submitted an article breaking down a farming strategy and ended up securing a top spot, earning $300 worth of STON tokens.
For anyone skilled in writing, video production, or design, this is an opportunity to earn directly from creative contributions.
5. The Stonbassador Program—Referral Earnings That Scale
STON.fi’s Stonbassador program is designed to reward community members who introduce new users to the platform.
By referring users who engage in trading, staking, or farming, Stonbassadors earn commission-based rewards.
Over time, this creates a passive income stream that grows as more people get involved. For those looking to build a long-term earning structure in Web3, this program stands out.
Why STON.fi Stands Out
STON.fi isn’t just another DEX—it’s the largest on the TON blockchain, with:
✔️ $5.2B+ total trading volume
✔️ 4M+ unique wallets (81% of all TON DEX users)
✔️ 25K+ daily active users
✔️ 700+ trading pairs with high liquidity
Beyond trading, STON.fi provides multiple revenue streams for users looking to earn in crypto without relying on market speculation.

How I Earn Over $1,500 Monthly from STON.fi Without Trading

Most people think decentralized exchanges (DEXs) are just for trading. But I’ve found a way to consistently earn over $1,500 every month from STON.fi—without actively trading.
This is not about buying low and selling high. It’s about staking, farming, content creation, and leveraging the right opportunities.
If you’re looking for stable, passive income in Web3, here’s how I do it:
1. Staking STON – The Foundation of My Earnings
STON.fi allows staking of its native token, $STON, which generates additional rewards in governance tokens like Arkenston and Gemston.
This isn’t just about earning APY. These governance tokens hold value and can be used within the ecosystem or sold for profit.
By staking $STON, I receive a steady flow of rewards every month. The more I stake, the higher my rewards.
2. Farming Pools – The Passive Income Boost
Liquidity providers (LPs) on STON.fi earn rewards by supplying assets to farming pools. One of the best opportunities has been the STON/USDT V2 pool, which offers competitive yields.
The concern with farming is usually impermanent loss, but with proper research and risk management, I’ve maintained consistent earnings from the pool.
It’s one of the easiest ways to generate income while supporting the liquidity of the DEX.
3. Shelter 42 – Earn from Knowledge and Referrals
Shelter 42 is one of the most underrated earning opportunities on STON.fi. Unlike staking or farming, this program rewards users for answering blockchain-related questions correctly.
In addition to quiz rewards, there’s a referral system that provides extra earnings. By referring others to the game, I receive additional incentives, making it a dual-income opportunity.
For anyone with blockchain knowledge (or willing to learn), Shelter 42 offers a simple way to earn in the ecosystem.
4. Content Creation Contests – Web3 Rewards Beyond Trading
STON.fi isn’t just for traders—it also rewards content creators through its monthly contests.
I participated in a content creation competition, where users submitted articles, videos, and infographics about STON.fi. By providing valuable insights, I secured a top position and won $300 worth of STON tokens.
This is a perfect opportunity for anyone skilled in writing, design, or video editing to monetize their creativity.
5. The Stonbassador Program – Referral Earnings
One of the easiest income streams I’ve built is through the Stonbassador program—STON.fi’s referral system.
By inviting users to explore the platform, I earn commissions on their trading and staking activities.
Over time, as more users engage with the DEX, my referral earnings continue to grow passively.
Why STON.fi Is the Best Platform for Web3 Earners
STON.fi is the leading DEX on the TON blockchain, with:
✔️ $5.2B+ in total trading volume
✔️ 4M+ unique wallets
✔️ 25K+ daily active users
✔️ 700+ trading pairs
Beyond trading, STON.fi offers multiple earning opportunities for users who want to stake, farm, create content, and refer others.
If you’re looking for ways to earn in crypto without relying on market speculation, STON.fi is a platform worth exploring.
Final Thoughts
Since leveraging STON.fi’s ecosystem, I’ve built a steady $1,500+ monthly income without needing to actively trade.
For anyone serious about earning in Web3, these opportunities are worth considering.
💡 If you found this useful, explore STON.fi and start earning today.

Godot for Game Shows?
Yeah. I mean, why not? There's ultimately no hard-and-true objectively correct way to present a game, just good practices to keep in mind as you work with the resources available to you; even if it's just index cards scotch-taped to a dry-erase board, if you keep it in line with the look and feel you've planned with some thought into it, people won't be able to think of your brand any other way. some will even get offended if you change it (it happens, but most of the viewers who like your game will trust your creative decisions with as equal trust you have shown them in your production. Parasocial relationships are not the only type that exists between an artist and their audience in the information age; extend to them the same credit you would extend to yourself.)
But to touch on the reasons why I am using Godot as the infrastructure for the quizzes I am building, the details are under the cut:
I have found it to be more robust and more interactive than PowerPoint. It also allows for potentially more automation, it can be integrated with human-input devices fairly easily, with the ability to interface it with PLCs (users have already developed plug-in modules to use within it to interface with the Arduino platform).
There are a lot of features in it currently that are not anything I can use for the productions I am planning now, but if I can get the basic handle and functions of the software down it will make things that much easier once I am in a position to wire things up for a stage or studio.
Plus, there's the personal challenge of learning something that could be useful in other fields willing to cut a paycheck for it. It took me a while to get a basic handle on graphic design, so at least I can make stuff to show off. I don't think it would take as long or longer to get the handle on what will use those graphics.
Personally, the biggest learning curve is in the interface. Once you get accustomed to where things are and what happens to them when you click on something else, it gets easier to figure out how to get it to do what you're looking to do within it.
But the nice thing about open-sourced software like Godot is there are a number of equally-motivated individuals who are poking and prodding around on their own, and they might have figured out the same problem you're having (e.g. that elliptical orbit problem on a MeshInstance3D I spoke about in a previous post).
Those of you trying to break a bad habit of hyper-independence (especially of the incredibly rugged definition of self-reliance that comes with a life spent in rural Appalachia [e.g. "you have to learn to help yourself because ain't nobody else coming to help you"]), will find the waters of a beginners' channel on a Godot discord server to be pleasant and calm. RSD will not be inflamed as everybody else in there us just as clueless as you are. It's not just you, this is kinda tough. Ask for help.
If you've used programming languages before, the scripting end of it is nothing unfamiliar, especially if you've cut your coding teeth on the syntax and structure of python.
It's not the only piece of software I have learned in order to make anything, and it likely will not be the last. But it makes a fantastic contribution to one's productivity suite if you're so inclined towards goofy a/v nonsense like I am.

Thoughts for the day: I listened to a video playlist titled ‘Sad Video Game Music to make you cry’ by omnistwo. Good mix, would recommend. Eventually though, I listened to don’t ever forget and thus, in my everlasting curiosity about the origins of said piece, came to know too much about pmd: explorers of time/darkness/sky. And I’ve come to the conclusion, reading the guides on gamefaqs, that Dism would score highly for the docile/timid/lonely traits in the personality quiz— so he’d likely be reincarnated into a little cyndaquil* :) So it’s little Dism the cyndaquil and his pikachu partner ^^
But knowing Dism, this game would probably be the closest experience he has to friendship during those 10 years of kidnapping. And combined with the tearjerker ending of that game, the pikachu plush he totes around as a kid is maybe, y’know, his way to cling to that semblance of companionship. Heartbreaking.
Other thoughts I also had about my son that are happier also include him demonstrating to Inigo how to cook so that he can nourish his body ^^ Because Dism is the No.1 Wonder Chef (heh) of YHNN and I think he should take some pride in his cooking abilities :) And also provided Cynthia has played one (1) other tales game (unlikely. her graces obsession is too strong) Dism might end up dressed as said wonder chef during the scenario. Average flower five interaction, honestly. Weirdos <3 (affectionate)
The second thought was brought to you by me actually nourishing myself instead of toddling biscuits to my room at 10pm because I forgot to eat dinner again. Look at my wonderful creation:

#*I say cyndaquil because it is the cutest and I love it’s evos the most compared to charmander and bulbasaur :P#one of these days these posts will make sense to more than 1-2 people#in the meantime I scream to the void! tumblr is my personal diary <3#just pav things#I’ve been indulged too much by my wife so the head children brainrot is real :>#you know I’ve withdrawn from fandom hyperfixation when I start seriously crying about the handmade stuff. it’s a sign#they always kick into high gear when there’s nothing else ^^ off the backburner and onto the flame :D

Splitting up my screencaps post for the Creation of the Gods variety series. Here's episodes 4 and 5. (Episode 4) (Episode 5)
Episode 4
More clumsy audio editing...while they were riding in the fields I heard two audio tracks with different music
They're riding in Inner Mongolia :o
His scarf lol
I kept seeing Zhang Xuehan in the training camp but I didn't remember her playing a character in the movie. MDL says she's in the first movie as Qiong Han but I'm wondering if she actually appears in later movies. Wuershan only mentioned that Xuehan had trained with Naxi though.
Ci Sha likes singing :3
They ate with the local villagers
Yu Shi riding the tractor coolly: I have to be the hottest person on the farm
Next scene: *Yu Shi chasing pig and failing to get a selfie*
Sandstorm on the plains :o
Naran was like "aw, wish I got to learn to ride horses with y'all :<"
Archery lessons!!
Parkour with bows >)
Oh no, Yu Shi's horse stopped at the last second ^^;; Guess they got scared
And then they began training for the sword dance
Third evaluations
Naran dance performance
That's kinda badass
Yeah their drum performances are pretty cool
Naxi and Xuehan played the drums while the guys did the archery and sword performance.
Lol Liu Tianchiw as loving the violence during the performance XD
Oh this is cool, they've prepared choreographed fights in different formations with different weapons
Hou Wenyuan felt he was most suited for Yang Jian :o
So apparently in the original script, the dance at the feast was different. After Wuershan watched the guys' performance, he changed that dance to the sword + shield dance.
Liu Han was getting emotional during his thank you speech to the teachers and the guys were like "CRY!!!!!!" XD Meanwhile in the studio Yu Shi was like "aw cute :3"
Omg more shoddy audio, during the speaking segment afterwards the audio of those on set was completely cut out...we just heard the music v.v
Acting performances are the final hurdle :o
Nooooo overlapping music audios again ToT I've brought this up several times but it's because it's very distracting.
Wuershan said that during camp, the trainees didn't know the script nor the characters. That being said I think I saw at least one trainee wear a 封神 T-shirt so I think they maybe had some idea but not the specifics.
Now that they have their assigned roles, they're finally getting into analyzing their specific characters.
Bro his long hair T_T I wonder if he was keeping it long for the movie or if it just happened like that. Chen Muchi's hair was growing long too so maybe it's the former.
Are we going to get any commentary on the creation of Chen Muchi's stage name
Jing Niansong marking Yu Shi's quiz on Chen Muchi like it's an actual test XD
Yin Jiao and Ji Fa bonding time by playing hide and seek.
Chen Muchi looking for Yu Shi with a SWORD X'D
Chen Muchi disturbing Hou-ge bouncing his yoga ball during hide and seek XD
Chen Muchi succeeded in the end, finding Yu Shi in 2min30s
In the third portion of the training camp, all the candidates considered for Ji Fa were in one team, and all the candidates considered for Yin Jiao were in the other team. So Yu Shi and Chen Muchi wouldn't have bumped into each other too much during that time.
Chen Muchi learning guqin and struggling ^^;; I mean yeah, he's a jock
Zhou Mi laughing at how Chen Muchi plays the guqin XD He was like "why do you touch it like you're being electrocuted" ^^;; From his scene before with the guqin teacher, I think Chen Muchi isn't used to plucking something as delicate as a string.
Naran learned guqin too :3
And also all sorts of dance. She said she trained for 2 years for not even 2 minutes of dance on screen. But that's showbiz isn't it.
Naran talked about how she studied foxes, went to the zoo to take videos, watched videos of them all the time. There are a couple of clips of her practising waking up as Daji and we see how different her mannerisms have become in the later videos.
And then training fox characteristics even more with Sang Lin
Oh this is super cool, now Sang Lin is 'attacking' her with a sword and she has to defend herself as a fox.
Interesting detail, Sang Lin said that most animals will swat inwards, not outwards.
Afterwards we see her practising a scene with Chen Muchi where Yin Jiao is trying to kill Daji.
Hou Wenyuan as Yang Jian lol. I don't know if it's confirmation bias but it just doesn't feel right lol. Hou Wenyuan as the asshole Chong Yingbiao works because Hou Wenyuan is a big personality. Ci Sha as Yang Jian works because we know he's 斯文 and a little formal. Hou Wenyuan admitted that this was not it so afterwards he was cast as Chong Yingbiao lmao.
Huang Xiyan started practising spear since he heard that the Erlang Shen character hadn't been cast yet.
Ci Sha had trained to be a hostage son for 6 months and then he was cast as Yang Jian, so he had to retrain all over again, practising spear with long robes.
LMAO Ci Sha singing while dragging Nezha around
Omg but Wu Yafan climbing all over Ci Sha was cute X3
Wu Yafan kept getting the giggles while practising lines with Zhou Mi (who was playing Jiang Ziya). Yafan kept accidentally calling Zhou Mi 師父 instead of 師叔 and every time Zhou Mi would be like "誰是你師父啊?!"
Oh shit, we found out about Huang Xiyan's personal history with his own father, and how that translated into his character's feelings about his father. Did not fucking help that we had two pieces of music overlapping during this moving scene and I couldn't fully concentrate on Huang Xiyan telling his story.
Afterwards, Li Yunrui was like "bro are you crying? why aren't you crying yet?"
Wuershan said that everyone who attended the training camp would be assigned a role. So for those who didn't get major or supporting roles, if they were willing to stay, Wuershan would assign them smaller roles.
Voting for this episode's title was fairly even because frankly everyone worked very hard for this movie.
Episode 5
Cute :3
I'm not sure exactly what kind of martial arts they're practising. Is it kickboxing or MMA? Anyway it's more hand-to-hand combat.
After checking their fundamentals the coach was like "yeah we're starting from zero with these ones"
The guys getting hyped for Chen Muchi vs. Ci Sha. I think Wu Yafan said that Ci Sha had practised this kind of MMA before. Anyway they were kind of laughing that they each never defended, they only ever attacked.
They went by the beach today to fight and do obstacles in the sand. Real 男子漢 stuff.
Strategy for gaining possession of the tire: Hug your bro, even if he's on the other team
Hou-ge's Strategy #1: Push Ci Sha, realize he's on your team, push someone else
Nana hides her face in the fox plush when she's laughing really hard :3
Hou-ge's Strategy #2: Take Yu Shi's pants off
Naxi and Nana CRYING laughing at Hou Wenyuan's shenanigans X'D
And then Hou-ge having a relaxing time on the beach lol. Just anything this guy does is hilarious tbh.
Hou Wenyuan and Yu Shi having a tussle (fake) in the water
Crawling with your bro on your back
LMAO there are not one, but TWO wedding photoshoots going on in the background
More hardcore military obstacle training in the sand
There are a lot of big mansions in the background
I wonder if Li Yunrui used to play soccer.
Bro Li Yunrui ALWAYS leans into Huang Xiyan when he laughs
BEACH BOYS PHOTOSHOOT
Riding horsies in the water! :3
"Recognize the man by his torso" game
Lol talent show night
I'm starting to wonder if the layered music is to prevent strikes from copyrighted music???? It's so distracting though, I'd rather they just mute it tbh.
Naran's birthday! :3
And then Wu Yafan's birthday :3
They said they are family ;_;
(Having to delete screencaps at this point because too many pictures in the post ToT)
Naxi recorded a lot of Naran's fox videos and also when Naran was still figuring out how to act like a fox, Naxi try acting as a fox with her so she wouldn't feel so awkward :3
Whenever Li Yunrui learns something new, he'll show Huang Xiyan...and Huang Xiyan will low key not pay attention lol
Lol the cello again
#thinking out loud#screencaps#cvariety#movies#creation of the gods#sorry i realized i'm getting really sloppy this is not entertaining this is me literally just reacting
