The comics website Broken Frontier announced the winners of their annual awards earlier this month, with ND Stevenson’s Substack comic I’m Fine I’m Fine Just Understand taking the prize in the webcomics category. Stevenson was up against an impressive array of webcomics, including Buuza!! by Shazleen Khan (pictured above); Drowse by Frank Verano, Nick Klinger, Jaime Huxtable and Taylor Esposito; Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe; and Ragwort Wood by Sarah Gordon — all of which are worth a click, so check them out.

28/07/2023-Lakeside lunch time walk and home
Photos taken in this set are of: 1. Beautiful Speckled Wood in vegetation just north of Lakeside, I saw a fair few of these along the northern path which I enjoyed today too. 2. Common Field grasshopper which I was pleased to find in the lovely vegetation in the area to the west of the site. 3, 4, 6 and 7. Views at Lakeside. 5. A gorgeous Green-veined White. 8. Dramatic sky out the back this morning. 9. Mallards. 10. Common Red Soldier beetles.
At lunch time I also enjoyed seeing the Great Crested Grebe chicks well, Goldfinch, Magpie, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, Small White, bees, Marmalade hoverfly, Swollen-thighed beetle, gypsywort which I enjoyed noticing here this week, self-heal, lesser stitchwort, mallow, lady's bedstraw, ragwort, broad-leaved and white clover, swathes of agrimony, bindweed, meadow crane's-bill, bird's-foot trefoil, red bartsia, guelder rose and rowan berries and lovely purple teasel with Wren heard. It was thrilling to see a few butterflies walking back out the front on the way home, Small White and Red Admiral and Comma it was exciting to see them here.

I'm trying to get back to using my perfume collection, which is often sort of "out of sight, out of mind". I have about 50 scents (mostly BPAL imps) that I've organized it all into a spreadsheet, sorted by season.
These are the ones I'm taking out for the next couple of weeks:
Saint-Germain (BPAL 2006) - "Gilded amber, hypnotic lavender, brash carnation and deep mosses." This is one of my very favorite scents, which was sadly discontinued in 2010. I've been hoarding about half an imp for a long time, but I should just let myself enjoy it.
Loviatar (BPAL 2006) - "The slap of slick, hot leather punctuates the warm, sensual embrace of black amber, red musk and dark, lascivious myrrh." Another one I love that was discontinued in 2010, and I only have a drop left. The BPAL website is teasing me that it might be re-released at some point, but who knows?
Calico Jack (BPAL 2007 & 2021) - "Sea air, driftwood, waterlogged kelp, and the memory of plundered spices sprayed over worn leathers, rough musk, and the salty wooden floorboards of the Revenge." I have an old imp I want to use up before I get into the new one.
Ave Maria Gratia Plena (BPAL 2021) - "Rosewood with Sicilian lemon peel, red Mysore sandalwood, pale musks, sweet mountain sage and a dusting of lily, night-blooming jasmine and orris."
Robin Goodfellow (BPAL 2021) - "Dark musk, moss-covered wood, ragwort, heather, and sage."
Gravity (Coty 2000) - "Top notes are White Pepper, Lime, Sage and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Cloves and Freesia; base notes are Leather, Vanilla and Woodsy Notes." This scent is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. It was the cologne all the boys were wearing when I was in high school in the mid 90s. It reminds me of a lot of good times, and so I've incorporated it into my gender journey.
Speakeasy (Samar Pit Crew 2022) - "French oakwood, soft leather, tobacco, gin, rum, elderflower, vetiver. 'Speakeasy' is an offering to queer joy - past, present, and future." My roommate got me this one for Christmas, and I keep forgetting to test it out.

Peacock butterfly
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
Peacock butterfly (Aglais io)
JUST LOOK AT THEM!!🧡🧡🧡 Oml the pattern on the peacock butterfly is honestly one of my favourites.the beautiful pattern actually serves a purpose and that is to confuse potential predators with the eyes that appears on there wings. Found in Europe the peacock butterfly lives mostly on thistles and ragwort, as well as sap and honeydew. Into early autumn, they may also feed on rotten fruit to build up body fat in preparation for winter. They come out in summer and go into hibernation during winter, mostly taking shelter in hollow trees, dead wood, sheds, and attics for seven to eight months until the next spring. During the winter they might hiss at predators as a defence mechanism because it could be hard for them to see the eye spots with the low lighting

Ragwort abounding by Thomas Cizauskas Via Flickr: Abounding in the meadow: ragwort! Legacy Park Decatur, Georgia, USA. 7 May 2022. *************** ▶ "Packera anonyma, called Appalachian ragwort and Small's ragwort, is a flowering, perennial plant in the Asteraceae (aster) family. Packera anonyma produces abundant yellow flowers during May through early June. It inhabits rock outcrops, roadsides, woods, and disturbed areas. It is native to the lower Northeastern United States and across the Southeastern United States." — Wikipedia. ▶ "The inflorescence of Packera anonyma is a corymb-like array - the lower/outer stalks are longer than those in the middle, so that all the flowers in the inflorescence are at more or less the same level, giving it a somewhat flat top. There may be several of these arrays on a plant, and the plant may have over 100 individual compound flowers. The blossom of Small's Ragwort is golden yellow, with both the ray and disk flowers being that color. The number of ray flowers varies from 8 to 15. Packera anonyma grows up to around 3 feet tall." — Wildflowers of the Unted States *************** ▶ Photo by Yours For Good Fermentables.com. ▶ For a larger image, type 'L' (without the quotation marks). — Follow on Twitter: @Cizauskas. — Follow on Facebook: YoursForGoodFermentables. — Follow on Instagram: @tcizauskas. ▶ Camera: Olympus OM-D E-M10 II. — Edit: Photoshop Elements 15, Nik Collection. ▶ Commercial use requires explicit permission, as per Creative Commons.
