Note
a table of odd magic items that may or may not be useful
“…the GM will only tell you something interesting—it’s on you to make it useful.” — Dungeon World
1d20 Magical Items of Mild Utility
A doorknob that can be easily affixed to any door by simply holding it on for about thirty seconds. Once affixed, it permanently transforms into an ordinary doorknob and lock, to which you have the key.
The Shaker of Infinite Salt
A pencil that significantly improves the user’s penmanship when writing with it.
An orb containing a very small pocket dimension, into which one can transfer their familiar so that it may safely rest.
A palm-sized stone figurine of a shark, which will bite any fingers that come near its mouth.
Self-Fluffing Pillow
Watch that shows you what time it was the last time you looked at the watch, instead of what time it is now.
Piece of string that, when tied around your finger, actually helps you remember to do that thing.
Temporary Scissors: They can only cut the normal things you’d expect from a pair of scissors, but if you hold the cut pieces together tightly they will magically re-form into a whole, as though they’d never been cut.
Robes that make the wearer an inch or so taller.
Magic Eraser (erases pencil, ink and crayon!)
Hand-sized stone that, when thrown, always lands 5 feet in front of your intended target—whether your aim is perfect or abysmal.
A bucket that transforms any liquid poured into it into seawater.
A bar of soap that temporarily changes the color of anything washed with it. The color is random, and changes each time the bar is used (1d6: 1: Red, 2: Orange, 3: Yellow, 4: Green, 5: Blue, 6: Purple). The color lasts one day.
Goggles of Shrimp-Color Vision
A ring with a single very round stone. When you say the magic word the stone pops out and transforms into a bowling ball. It turns back into a small stone after 2d4 hours and must be manually returned to the ring before it can be used again.
Boots that produce an animal sound of your choice when you jump up and do a jaunty little bell-kick while wearing them.
A small glass bottle that, when filled with water, appears instead to be full of a swirling, shimmering potion.
A quiet trumpet.
A knife that can only cut sandwiches. It is up to the GM’s discretion what does and does not count as a sandwich for this enchantment, but the rules are consistent.

Random Anubis fact 3: IKEA in Het Huis Anubis
I already made a post about the IKEA duvet covers that were used in Het Huis Anubis, but did you know that this series also includes other IKEA items that are most likely still available at an IKEA near you? I put every item that I found so far in this post. (Stocks may vary per country, although I believe these IKEA items are in general quite popular worldwide and also have never really left the catalogue since they were introduced). For the pictures I mostly used the catalogues from 2005-2007 on the IKEA Museum website to find these products since Het Huis Anubis was first aired on television in 2006. A description of the products is under the cut:
KNAPPA ceiling lamp. I might be wrong here, but I believe a longer version of this ceiling lamp was used in the drama classroom. I couldn't find the long version while doing my research, so I think that the set designers may have combined multiple of these lamps to make them longer.
IKEA PS VÅLLÖ / IKEA PS 2002 watering can. These watering cans can be seen in the kitchen of hha during different scenes. Trudie also uses them (mostly the green one) on different occasions. IKEA will change the colors of these watering cans from time to time to keep their product range up to date with what colors are popular that year. (More info on IKEA PS VÅLLÖ)
FAMNIG HJÄRTA cushion. This is probably one of the most well known items from IKEA and it was mainly used as one of the cushions on Patricia's bed. It was also featured in a few other scenes. (More info on FAMNIG HJÄRTA)
LAMPAN table lamp. This table lamp was used as decoration in the bookcase in Appie and Jeroen's bedroom. Over the years this lamp was sold in a range of different colors and color combinations, and it seems Appie and Jeroen have the one with a black lamp base and a white lamp shade. (More info on LAMPAN)
ÅRSTID lamp and EKARP lamp base. The lamp in the left screenshot is Noa's lamp she had on her bedside table. I believe it is a combination of the ÅRSTID lampshade and EKARP lamp base that were sold at IKEA during that time. The EKARP lamp base is not available anymore at IKEA, but the ÅRSTID lamp still is!
GRÖNÖ table lamp. I know this one is really difficult to see in the screenshot because it is quite dark, but this is the best screenshot I could find for now (I know, I'm sorry 😅). The table lamp can be found in the background on the desk left to Fabian's bed.
LACK side table. These side tables are used as bedside tables in both of the boy's bedrooms. They all have the same bedside tables and beds (which I will tell more about in my next post). I know that this screenshot only shows half of the LACK side table on the right of Fabian's bed, but I used it because you can also see a bit of the GRÖNÖ table lamp that I previously mentioned light up behind Mick. (More info about LACK).

Another Friday means a new set of Curious Collectibles tables have arrived!
If you like these and want even more options each week, consider joining me on Patreon! Patrons get access to more options, with new tables released every Friday! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Some additional inspirational prompts for the above treasure items:
What sort of magic does this want contain? ... Or perhaps it was meant to be a food source?
Who commissioned such a gaudy helm? Or perhaps those gems each contain a special power? Or dare it... a soul?
Who commissioned such a piece and where would this sort of beast even be found in?
What could this item be used for? Perhaps it is attuned to the plane itself?
And most importantly, what option would you choose? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - As always, this table is available and free for you to use in your home DnD / Pathfinder / Tales of the Valiant / Shadowdark / TTRPG games, to help generate some more descriptive loot. The way I've written Lucy is he's got a very strange web of skills, and most of them come from a wealth of experience with gambling.
Basically, if anything needs a mix of skill and a little luck. Lucy's probably pretty good at it! It helps that he's good at reading people too.
All this to say I think grandpa would fuck it up at a local.

2024-09-14: Episode 14 (What Will Come To Pass Pt. 2)
Original airdate September 30, 1992
Episode Synopsis
Dr. How and the gang travel back in time, but can't reach the present and arrive in another dystopian future in the year 2022. The gang must solve the mystery of why they can't travel back in time any earlier than 2022. Each attempt to travel back in time results in a slightly different different reality.
SynCorp has reverse-engineered Dr. How's TIMER and modified it to prevent anyone from traveling back in time to a period before its temporal field effects were operational. Once the gang identifies the source of the time travel interference, they can destroy it and finally travel back in time to stop SynCorp from getting their hands on the device in the first place.
Episode Sponsor: Clamjams
Clamjams is a waterproof boombox with radio and built-in cassette player. However, the radio only works as long as the antenna is above water, and opening the cassette deck underwater has a significant chance of ruining the device. But if you're okay with these shortcomings, now you can bring the party to the pool or beach!
Notable Introduction: P.E.T.E.R. (Item)
The device that SynCorp created with the help of Boris Ozonevich's supply of money is known as P.E.T.E.R. (Primacy Expanding Temporal Experience Resonator) and it stops attempts to use Dr. How's TIMER to travel to times before P.E.T.E.R.'s countermeasures were activated. It creates a new decoy reality each time the gang tries to use the TIMER to travel back in time, but operating the device across an effectively infinite array of realities is both costly and space intensive. As such, P.E.T.E.R. is always housed in a tall, mostly-empty building with a great deal of access to energy. Please use the tables below to generate the broad strokes of the reality the gang encounters:
The Landscape Is (d6)
A desert
Flooded
A dying city
An overdeveloped neon city
Plagued by fire
Completely free of trees
Other Problems In This Reality (d6)
Acid Rain
Smoke and Smog
Constant lightning storms
Plague
Robots control almost all jobs
Massive drought conditions
P.E.T.E.R. Is Powered By (d6)
Burning nuclear waste
A battery bank of people like in the matrix
A dam that flooded out an entire city of people
A giant battery filled with highly corrosive acid
Prisoners running in a big hamster wheel
Energy harvested from several laser arrays focusing their beams

Ya know I think we're at a point where we really do just allow dogs into way too many places (barring actual real service ones ofc)
like when i go to the grocery store i do not want to see your dog. i do not want to see your dog in a restaurant. i do not want to see your dog in a theater. i do not want to deal with your dog at the clinic. Or most places for that matter
I really just do not want to deal with all these loud, barking, untrained dogs that are going to be getting into everything, barking at everything, jumping at everyone cause its too excited (im real tired of being damn near knocked over and i've dealt with concussions a little too many times from this shit), or the risk of being bitten or growled at because your dog is too anxious/scared to be in the place you are subjecting it to
fucking take it to a dog park or some shit idk but quit subjecting everyone to your unwanted dog and quit subjecting it to weird fucking situations

(Inconvenient) Sentient Object Generator
1d12 Objects
Rusty old sword
Large orb (at least 10” diameter, were talking 15lbs minimum.)
Flimsy walking stick
Literal brain-in-a-jar
Dented helmet
Cannon, or other large weapon meant to be on a vessel
Rug
A left boot (the right boot is nowhere to be found.)
Multi-volume encyclopedia
Anvil
Globe
A single crossbow bolt.
1d6 Sources of Sentience (and Wants)
Mad-science/alchemical experiment gone wrong; trapped own consciousness in this object. Wants to return to their lab so they can have you attempt to reverse the procedure.
Cursed into this form by a witch or other entity as punishment for wrongdoings. Wants to find the entity and reverse the curse
Born this way, comes from a lineage of sentient objects. Wants to be owned/wielded by a powerful person.
Mad-science/alchemical experiment gone wrong; was a henchman transformed into this object by their master. Wants revenge.
Magically transformed themself into this form as a way of achieving immortality. Wants a new, young, living body to inhabit.
Was once an inanimate object brought to life by a mage. Has now outlived that mage and wants to find a way to resurrect them.
1d6 Powers - how does the object communicate its wants and exert its will?
Compulsion/possession: the object can force a person who is touching it to perform an action. What can a person do to prevent themself from being compelled?
Telepathy: the object can send telepathic messages in a short range. Are the messages targeted, or does everyone around it hear them?
Limited mobility: the object can move on its own, though not quickly. How does it move? (Does it roll, waddle, float?)
Charm/influence: the object can make a person believe that its wills are the best course of action. What types of people are most susceptible to its wiles?
Speech: the object can speak out loud in one or more languages. Does it know when to keep its mouth shut?
Telekinesis: the object can move inanimate objects, but not itself. What are its limits? (Size? Range? Material? Form?)

It's not really feasible just for how varied and unrestrained character creation is for the universe, but a Borg styled Madoka Magica ttrpg system would go so fucking hard.
