Rappa should have joined the League of Villains

Something that was such a missed chance was that Rappa was such a natural fit for the League of Villains that it isn't funny.

Think about it!

For one, he shares their mutual dislike of Overhaul so already there's common ground for the other League and him to get along.

Two, he offers them something they never really lacked and that is 'reasonable close combat power' + likeability. Muscular had the baggage of murdering Kota's parents, and his Pump Up was way too strong to have in the story for too long as a reoccurring threat. Rappa cuts out the established character killing aspect and adds in a layer of honor in just wanting a fair fight. It would've meshed well with the current League being more humanized the more we got to know of them. Plus, in general, himbo that wants a good fight and is generally chill otherwise hits better than 'jerk jock that slaughters anyone for lolz'.

Three, class dynamics!! He would fit in, so, so, so easily as Kirishima's Villain that it HURTS they never saw each other again, even after Rappa claimed to want another shot (seriously what the fuck happened to the rest of the yakuza?!!) He and Kirishima could be like a good indicator of how far Red Riot has come since they last fought and give Rappa the dream match he desires (just, without the death aspect to it XD) Plus, thanks to Vigilantes, he has another dynamic with Mirko that could have easily lend itself to him having a fairer shot reforming in the epilogues.

Four, he could offer a nice look with the MLA/PLF concerning Quirk rights and syncs well with the League's reason for villainy. Rappa became a villain due to overbearing parents controlling his life, which can mirror both Toga and Shiggy's own parentage that affected them to become villains too. He can sympathize with both pretty easily and potentially could have been like another brother to them. On the MLA aspect, given that their whole deal is basically getting unrestricted Quirk access, and Rappa would know from experience the fighting rings he participated in they were created out of need to see some Quirk using fights without the law butting in. So he's probably agree/sympathetic to those who want to just cut loose....but also see if him 'testing' out said MLA soldiers to see how far that desire to rampage goes. Plus, he probably prefers a lax, casual way of getting to his dream rather than, at least initially, the MLA's stuffy, corprorate controlled hierarchy.

Five, I'll be honest, it's just nice to have someone from the Shie Hassaikai stick around as a main stay. I will forever be salty that, aside from a misused Overhaul, NO ONE ELSE was brought back for even the Second War. Whyyyyyy?!! Rappa at least allows them rep to still be in the story and actively doing stuff. (If it were up to me, I'd also allow Chronostasis to slip away to do his own thing, but that's just me XD)

But yeah, this is just me craving something that never happened, but I wish it did so much. Rappa would have been so good to have on-board that it hurts he was just left as a one-shot villain ;_;

For the character bingo, how about Rappa?

Rappa, my dear boy. His brain is a walnut but way smaller. I love him.

I think my favorite thing about Rappa is that he completes the himbo triangle (strong, dumb, kind) while still being extremely, intentionally violent. It's a scientific breakthrough I have yet to see replicated. It's not "big guy doesn't know his own strength", he wants to KILL. But it's so impersonal that if he's not in the middle of the fight he's a genuinely sweet guy, including to the people he was just trying to murder with his fists.

I will never forgive Horikoshi for not bringing him back in some capacity. Not even a proper face reveal. You had a prison break arc and only brought back one Hassaikai member? How dare! (though pathetic armless Chisaki is great).

I feel like more people would appreciate him if half his character and scenes weren't in supplemental material. The manga extras talk about how his ring fighting was a rebellion against his strict parents and how his partner, Tengai, was literally hired just as a Rappa babysitter so he'd stop pestering Chisaki for a death match every five seconds. He got in an argument with Mirko about whether punches or kicks are better for fighting. He saw a dude feint a KO and didn't feel right keeping the prize money so he split it with his opponent (then begged for a death match).

He's the perfect example of a very simple character that Horikoshi (and Betten) still put a lot of genuine thought into. ❤️

Dazzling Analyzing & Reporting Ninjutsu

(Pretend this post is not overly late to the Rappa story, I simply coudn't finish it earlier, it also will be somehow lenghy I'm a tiny bit sorry, I just have a lot to talk about)

[Obvious SPOILERS for the Rappa event/story + TW for discussing Rappa's origin]

We are back in Penacony! (Or should I call it Pinecany?) What a shocker I know, it's not like we've been there for a large chunk of the game while waiting for a new world. But that's beside the point.

While we enter we again expiriance a strange "dream", but this time it's filled with monkeys, ahm I mean Slumbernana monkeys and a pink haired sengoku period vielding weapons neon Ninja girl. We later find out her name is Rappa. We also find out she is a Galaxy Ranger and also working somehow together on this mission with Boothill. However, she's asking us for help before jumping off a roof onto a monkey shaped dream bubble. Which later we find out it's fairly common behaivior for her.

We wake up and have another 'Oh wait that was a Penacony trip again', realization while heading out. Who would be in our crew this time, you might ask? Well of course not Mommy Himeko, she's simply too busy staying on the Express and brewing coffee. Welt stays there too, because 'Ew people' (I can't really blame him there). Or as the game tells, they are off to some convinient conference (sure). So only the "children" check into the hotel, where we learn that Boothill also makes a reaperence and stays there.

At first I wasn't truly sure how to feel about this, because in the main story Boothill was just not hitting it for me. Which was also a big reason why we didn't summon for him back then. I don't know, he certainly has enough trauma for that, but something just rubbed me the wrong way. And I'm super happy to report that they fixed that a lot in this patch. Or maybe fix is the wrong term, they finally make him corherent with his personality and not flip flopping between him being a himbo only there for comedic release and being a serious (traumatised) cowbpoy. This time he has way more personality and weight to his person, and it works amazingly, because he's still funny too.

Oh, we also have to kinda go to school there? For some reason, because none of the three in question qualify as students. One was frozen in an ice block for who knows how long, the other is a glorified stellaron racoon and the third is a semi wanted war criminal with memory problems. I would ask who gave us the pass, but I think being the Penacony shareholders was the main reason nobody questions any of us. And I mean this in the entirety of staying there. Upon visiting said school we learn everybody is just relentlesly obessesed with Slumbernana monkeys and they take over the campus as well as teachers (conveniantley also away for said conference), staff, advisors and life of anybody there. Well beside Mr. Reca, but he's special.

I'm not really focusing on the school that much, because eventually it's not really important or memorable beside some fun interactions. So to break it down easier, the Slumbernanas are a memetic virus taking over the Sweet dream, infecting more and more people in the hopes of turning humans (or what is called human in the HSR sense) to regress back in time (becoming primates) so they would eventually evolve into greater beings. Oh and the mission has a weird obsession with Montana, a representative of the Slumbernana school fanclub and March's friend. Like a weirdly close bond friend. (She's seriously having way too much expose for a NPC)

There is also an official Slumbernana fanclub that much more represents a cult then a club, wanting specifically to use the Dreamflux Realm for their "project" (which most of fans are unaware off, I have to admit). Which is where Boothill's story act plays, along with Robin, trying to understand and hold back the mess those fanatics want to cause. And to help Dreamflux realm the best they can.

The real villian however are the BananAdvisor and Dr. Primative orchastrating everything while not being physically present. It's also worth mentioning that Mr. Reca plays a role in all of it, he's not evil, more a fanatic crazy director, and memokeeper.

(We always joke about that when the Penacony arc was released AO3 was funnily flooded with Dan Heng X Boothill fanfics and later some rare finds with Boothill X Robin and how they barely make (canonly) sense. (Which yes, everybody is allowed to ship anybody of age freely, don't need to make canonly sense, just legal. This in particular is simply a personal opinion because I really don't see the vibe of the first ship). But in the 2.6 patch they really make Boothill X Robin work a lot for us. I really can see the chemistry so it's cute, I like it)

The Dazzling Ninja at first is just goofy and a bit weird, from her own terminus, to her optimism, to her overall behaivor and antics, but we soon find out it's not all neon sings and fun graffiti. While most of the Mission is fairly humouros and lighthearded, because funky looking monkeys, it turns dark quite fast and not just once. In such instances Rappa often appears much sadder and can even speak "normal". She is acually concerned about the Slumbernana infection and urges us to help. It's her life mission to stop Evil Ninja Osaru. It's much much more personal, if she wishes so or not...

She's constanly talking about Master Kucha, the person teching her all about Ninjutsu and Evil Ninja Osaru, as well as Ninja Heros. This being a core to her entire exsistance.

As we learn from Mr. Reca, her past is not muddled, but shattering. She's immune to the Slumbernana virus because she is allready infected with one, with a Ninjutsu one. And this is because she is no more than an expiriment herself. A failed one in the eyes of the Dr.. Which is funny because she is clearly the best functioning and most intellegent one, which is the purpose of her creation. Her past is not neon, it's being locked up in chambers and expiriancing pain to no mean. It's being a sentient prisoner, a guinea pig. Nothing she could've done would prevent her from expiriance just abuse tarned as something good. Something acceptable.

One of the researchers being in charge of watching her was said Master Kucha, the one man that brought her up, gave a purpose, let her read his only and very cherrished manga series, raised her, watching her grow up, and always being kind to her. Of course that doesn't mean he was any better than other researchers using her as a experiment, but he was by far the best and most humane one, later even realising that what they are doing is just so fucked up, going that far to betray everybody and killing the headmistres and himself in the end, only for Rappa to be able to escape.

I find it intressting that the Galaxy Rangers were behind Dr. Primative much earlier and chasing him. Which was the reason they didn't have any equipment with them in that new place and why Kucha felt so bad so he let Rappa read the mangas in the first place. Of course we are never find out if the lap before that place was any more 'child friendly' to give the best fundation for intelect building, but it would make sense. At least in a child psychology way.

And due to her being only a "lowly" experiment, she's also not having a proper name, being known as A-K-A3 which later when asked to form a name, showed in the end result, Dazzling Ninja AKA Rappa.

For her "final trial" to become a Ninja (Hero) she has to escape the facillity and, well, also murder anybody standing in the way because they are all just helpers of Evil Ninja Osaru. (Maybe has to is the wrong term again, she just does it out of what is right and her will to live) Later she is found by an unknown Galaxy Ranger who at first is cautios but later realised Rappa is not on Dr. Primatives side eventually taking her with her.

I really love how at first Evil Ninja Osaru was just a random made up person to make her endure training and experiments, to give her a purpose, but later eventually turning into a real person without her even knowing. He is and always was the bad guy. This is why she is so accepting of Galaxy Rangers, because she's training to be one of them. Kucha wanted to do the right thing in the end and this is warming.

She also finds a purpose beside only defeting Evil Ninja Osaru, wanting to prevent any evil (ninjas) there is in the galaxy. Which is also a nice touch to her personality.

It does however put into perspective just how long this child was in the hands of those people. While we don't know exactly, we can assume she was 10+ to around 15+ when she escaped.

So what are our final thoughts on Rappa? It's a truly good writting and being myself I can't help but feel "happy" to have more disabled chracters for representation. Because not only is she deeply traumatised, she is also disabled, the virus preventing her from being "normal"/"healthy". of course this has some benefits but that doesn't mean she isn't. It's also very fun to see how positive and ultimativley badass she can be despide her trauma. Because dealing with trauma can look diffrent for everyone, as much as healing can.

I didn't dwelve to much into Boothill but just let me say, Boothill being regressed (really regressed not just somehow pretending to be able to win) is such a cute idea and we both enjoyed how he told the BananAdvisor that the reason he didn't pick up a gun earlier was not because he wouldn't and was "innocent", but because he simply didn't need to.

As you slammed the door to the medical ward shut, Rappa strolled into the room. His wide, thumping gait reminded you of some sort of teenage delinquent. Following your sharp finger-pointing, he plopped down on the examination bed. You walked past him and grabbed your stethoscope from the countertop. Then you turned on heel and threw yourself in your seat. Your arms draped themselves over the side rests as you stared down your nose at him.

“You may address me as Doctor, or Doc. Call me sweetie, honey, pumpkin, princess, girlie or any variation thereof and your happy rear will have to heal on your own.” You leaned back in your chair. The plastic creaked in protest. “Is that clear?”

“Won’t be hard, Doc. You don’t seem much like a sweetie to me.”

You snorted and glanced at his mauve, puffy eyelid. “Unaided, that kind of injury takes two to three weeks to heal by itself.”

He shrugged. “If you can’t fix it, I’ll just fight with.”

You crossed your arms and flashed him a cocky grin. “I never said I couldn’t fix it.”

“Then why tell me it’ll take too long?”

“Because Humpty Dumpty.” You sneered. “I like to make it clear what the value of my service is before I put you back together.”

The big man let out a loud laugh. “So you’re just trying to impress me, eh Doc?”

You shook your head and lifted your chin. “Nope. Just trying to get you to listen to my aftercare instructions. The closer you follow them, the faster you heal.” You waved your hand dismissively at him. “You want to fight three days from now, I can make it work.” You wagged a finger at him. “...but you have to do exactly what I say.”

“Long as I can fight, I’ll do whatever you say, Doc.”

Your eyes drifted into a half-lidded stare. A soft, short chuckle escaped your mouth. Your manicured finger tapped your lips and you looked him up and down. Your voice dropped just a little as a hint of something pleased crept in. “Good boy,” you replied.

Having Kendo Rappa as a roommate is an interesting feat in itself. He is big, and loud , very very loud. He wasn't a bad roommate he just..was like a cute large and fluffy puppy that didn't know his size...or power. Their interactions started as the two met during a halloween party one of the frat houses down the street thew. [ ] went as Midna, her best friend Rumi was dressed as Impa while the last two of her friend group , Amaya and Asa, a pair of sisters, were dressed as fairies. “[ ]! Rumi! you two are so cute! Zelda costumes?” Asa asked as her sister ran up to admire their outfits. “Yeah! [ ] wanted to do some characters that matched us y'know?” She said as she nudged her quiet friend , the girl jumped and laughed , scratching her neck as she gave the excited sisters a small smile “If i was coming out tonight I was gonna wear what i wanted to really wear” [ ] said as the group of them laughed and mingled with their other friends and classmates. While heading to get juice , she heard loud screaming , as the sport boys were starting to show up. First was the football team, then the basketball. Baseball and wrestling came next, then the smaller clubs finished them out. Sighing [ ] was content away from everyone as she watched mayhem ensure, chugging of barrels , more music, girls swarming around the players they crushed on as they did minor things, like talk to their teammates or eating from one of the big food trays laying around. Feeling a tap on her shoulder broke her from her people watching, Rumi giving her a bright smile as she took a cup and joined her. “How's my favorite antisocial babe doing now that all of the party has arrived?” She asked as [ ] gave her a pained smile, going to get more if something to drink “Well I don't feel the need to smack anyone is that a good sign?” she chuckled as she got a hug from the more energetic girl “That's my girl! Don't worry, i wanna get out asap but we’re gonna need our favourite pair of sisters before that can happen and it seems like they're fawning over some of the baseball boys as we speak” Rumi said as they watched a familiar tutu of blue go by, followed by a pink one going a similar way. “I don't get it… but at least their taste in men isn't too bad” [ ] joked as Rumi agreed , laughing “Yeah miss tsundere, you can't stand saps, or most of the jocks either” giving the white haired girl a look she rolled her eyes and gave her own laugh back “Yeah I guess i'm either picky or just got high standards” “Ain't nothing wrong with that we all do!” She said as she elbowed the girl beside her.

As the two of them sat there and talked Rumi glanced past her and her eyes widened, causing [ ] to stop talking “What is it-” before she could question her, the white haired girl jumped up, waving at someone “Rap! Over here!” Constantly yelling to someone [ ] started to ask again when a booming voice came from above her “HEY RUMI” a very loud voice called as stomping could be heard before it stopped “I see you took our idea huh?” With that comment [ ] turned around only to be face to face with a dark cover chest, only to then look up to some of the most warm and amber colored eyes looking down at her “Hello there little lady, I like your costume! Erm..Midna aint it?” The giant ganon dressed man questioned as all she could do was shake her head in agreement, causing the giant male to laugh “Awe don't be shy of me kitten i ain't gonna bite!” He chuckled some more as her friend jumped in “I told you she was shy! Be nice Rappa!” Rumi yelled at the flaming red head as he gave her a toothy grin “Oh I was just teasin’ , I bet I ain't hurt her feelin’s did I sweetheart?” Rappa questioned as [ ] face felt hot, hiding her face in her hands as the teasing duo laughed causing the girl to huff “I'm tired of you two already” She said as a giant warm hand touched her shoulders “Awe dont be like that hun, in time ya’l love me” Rappa teased as he gave her a smile,making her stomach flutter “Yeah! This is who wanted you to meet anyway [ ]! This is Kendo Rappa, our top wrestling boy, Rappa this is my adorable best friend [ ]!” Rumi said as the two gave each other a shy smile , a sly one creeping up on Rumis as she thought to herself “Yeah, this'll definitely happen”

Since then the two had become more acquainted , having many classes together and sharing some similar friends [ ] was used to the bruting and sometimes dense man making a random ( and loud) appearance. As [ ] sat in her mostly empty room thanks to her last roommate moving out after constantly breaking sound rules and getting into it with the girl downstairs for being in her bed with her boyfriend (Yikes) she felt a sense of calm. Closing her chemistry book and letting out a relieved sigh [ ] thought about the fact she was going to get a new roommate, the thought was nerve wracking but also it was exciting as well. It was almost too quiet , having the last room by the stairs meant she didn't have to deal with many people besides her friend group. They weren't loud , unless one of her friends decided to get laid and made way too many sounds, or if their neighbors under them threw parties or also had...extra partners coming around. She definitely could feel she was sorta excited she was going to have a roommate again. The sisters had a room to the left of her while Rumi had the one to the right, sharing it with a girl they knew from math. The rooms were not gender defined, some girls having rooms with guys and vise versa so it made it easy to get a room.

These dorms were also quite spacious, the walls not paper thin and a large enough area space that could house two or maybe even three people. So when she heard a knock on her door she expected it to be her new roommate she was advised would come today. Happily opening the door she was shocked and almost terrified to see just a box, well actually a few boxed stacked hiding whoever it was behind them. But if the faed rustic orange hair and wide shoulders meant anything she knew her new roommate already “K-kendo?” [ ] said as the boxes walked by her , landing with a soft thud as bangs covered the male “[ ]? Is that you?” moving his hair out of the way their eyes had the same expression, shocked. “Uh h-hey there sweetheart why isn't this cute, we’re roomies hun?” he laughed as she couldn't help but give him a smile back. “I never expected to see you as my roommate” [ ] teased as Rappa gave her a hardy laugh “Well it looks like me and you are gonna be close friends here darlin’!” With a wide smile he picked her up and gave her a tight hug, taking her breath away ‘ Oh boy i wonder how this will turn out’ she thought as she was eye leve with her giant puppy like friend, his eyes filled of joy

Which leads into now, [ ] trying her hardest to read up on what her next project could be. As she sat there thinking she heard the tale tell sound of her roommate entering with some of his teammates, the boys loud and rambunctious as they entered. Feeling a heavy hand on her shoulder she looked up to the towering boy that was her roommate, his eyes just as bright as usual. “Hey darlin, we're just gonna talk up sum strats a for the upcoming match and play some games in the back , is that alright?” He asked with pleading eyes as one of his more cocky and jock like friends spoke up “Well youre the man here, dont let some women say if we cant or can be here” Rolling her eyes and proceeding to stand up and push past the wide eyed boy who knew what was going to happen. [ ] took in a breath before opening her eyes to look up to the boy “Well it is my room, i pay shit here and the man over there didnt get this place, so i do choose who can and cant come through my place” She said as she pointed a finger to the boys chest. Trying to push his luck he pushed back against her finger “ I bet you just haven’t gotten a good enough dicking for you to just stay out of the way” He laughed. Before [ ] could hit him hard enough her rust haired friend moved in , clearly towering the boy “Yer better watch yer mouth, she has her right around here, im invatin her space so watch it before there's no place for any of us to relax without rules” He said as the boy sucked up any laughing and nodded his head in understanding. Surprised by her usually aloof roommate [ ] stood back and went back to her work, the other boys scrambling behind kendo as the boy who tried to challenge her jumped to follow, never making a move to mock or do anything again.

The boys picked back up and were having fun in the back room of kendo’s , sighs and groans when they lost and victorious laughs and screams if someone won. Once they all left and everything settle to a quiet rumble as the last few funneled out [ ] could here herself think, reading up on chemistry as she felt a presence behind her. “ ‘M sorry, i didn't know my question wouldve cause a roar outta ya..” Kendo started as she smiled gently, turning to face the wounded boy “Its okay….guess it just lit something in me i always did y'know?” She said with a small laugh as she went to type again, but was stopped by the hulking boy. “I gotta make it up to ya alright? I know i aint say anythin that he did but…. It feels like my fault y'know?” He admitted as his large hand covered hers. “You wont live this down will you?” She questioned as his eyes flickered up to hers, sparking. “Nope, not at all. Lemme treat ya right okay?” For such innocent words [ ] couldnt help the shiver that ran down her back at his words. Maybe it was because he was so close, or that the smell of his cologne was too much, either way her head was spinning as she let him still hold her hand as he tugged her away from her computer , his smile widening as she reluctantly shut the bright screen “Great! Now let's get something to eat im starvin” He rasped out as [ ] gave him a giggle that made the boy stop in his tracks. He always thought she had a cute giggle but this one,for some reason , made his heart and chest feel warm and tight. Ignoring the feeling he took the girl with him, the two headed out to get something to eat as they headed down , the sound of her giggling still running though kendos mind.

Getting a random frantic text from Kendo wasn't unusual, in fact it was quite common for him to do such, which now didn't faze [ ] at all but this one was...particularly odd giving what he was asking ‘Hair? And messy? What in the world is he up to’ [. ] thought to herself as she headed to her shared room with the boy, nervous of what scene she could be entering.

Sighing after his last text she hurried her way to their dorm room and in fact he did leave the door open, making her more nervous as she entered the living room. “Kendo?” [ ] called out as she heard a gruff sound come from her bathroom. Entering was a sight of its own; towels, a bowl of some..substance , bags and bottles of body wash and a one flustered and shirtless Kendo. “[ ]! ‘M so glad yer home here take this” The large man said as he handed her an old toothbrush that was frayed and covered with the same odd substance in the bowl. The lingering smell from the room eventually gave it away ; shampoos. “Uh why do i need this? And why is there shampoo on a toothbrush” She questioned as he groaned, taking the towel off his head as she blinked owlishly at his very faded red orange hair, the color now more of a neon pumpkin. Shaking off extra water caused even more of his hair to fall, landing between his shoulder blades as he gave [ ] a desperate look. “It wont come out, and the more i scub the more...orange i become. I look like a orange peel” He whined as [ ] figured out what he was trying to do

“ You wanna remove the color right? A bowl of shampoo and body wash isnt strong enough” Going into their kitchen she grabbed some baking soda and lemon juice , coming back to the hopeless boy “Let me mix something up ive used before okay? Then we can proceed with your hair” Two and a half hours later the boys hair was now a light peachy orange, just light enough to take up with bleach “Well, if were gonna go for blonde ill go get some bleach and some masks, deep conditioners too, your hair is definitely gonna need it and I don’t want it breaking off because you're impatient to take care of it” she sighed as he was amazed at his hair, running a large hand through the still damp mess atop his head “Wow yer good” He said as she smiled at him, taking her keys “And you have a lot of hair.
