Do you have a family tree for DOTC and the ancient tribes around the lake with Hollyleaf/Fallenleaf?

I don't yet. When I finish up my re-read, I'm going to gather ALL of the DOTC cats and start dividing them up into the three cultural groups. After getting them all in bundles, I'm going to whip them up into proper family trees.

If you're asking about canon's family tree... I can make it if you'd like, but I'd just be showing you the ticking timebomb of genetic diversity they set up for themselves. It's all Quiet Rainkin and random forest cats, most introduced after book 3. None of the other settlers had grandchildren and the living children have no mates.

Lightning Tail died and Acorn Fur was forced into a vow of chastity

None of Turtle Tail's kits have kits; one is in a vow of chastity

There's nothing to "preserve" about the canon tree, unfortunately. It's not really a "tree," it's more like a couple of bubbles with a ton of dead women floating around outside.

For funsies, let me try and remember all the "bubbles" off the top of my head, plus when the characters were introduced

Personally, I think that's awful in a prequel arc that's supposed to be about ancestors. So I'm going to be making whole families for BB.

her feeling like she had to hide and not go out (re: time POTY) because of him, and he didn’t understand why it was stifling to her, but she understood him so she did it for him. and then in the winter, they were not even properly talking and he was dreaming up about other women (and im so sorry but the winter reference makes me think of winter 2021 and red tv release and making of midnights during what seems like was a turning point). fights happening under wraps, no one can see or hear them. her feeling trapped (literally comparing it to prison) just so he would see her for a small amount of time; endless hurdles for the tiniest reward. and then back to how being with him was stifling, but this time because he refused to let her help him (re: renegade), and she couldn’t express herself. like what’s! not! clicking!

In the works I have the Dottore halloween fic (one of the drafts I'm eyeing rn) and a modern au one as well!

My phone notes are kinda filled with incoherent concepts and rambles about him bc for the longest time I'd get ideas right before bed, or I'd wake up at 2am for some reason and I'd have Inspiration lol

Most of those are either too short or incoherent to really share, or I intend to actually turn them into fics at some point. I do have one that I'll share though bc I'm unsure where/what to use it in since it's mostly just dialogue... idk

His smile is slow, purposeful. "Perhaps. Does it bring you comfort, then, to know that none of this matters?"

When you don't answer, he continues, standing up to take the seat next to the operating table where you lie, instead. "To know that you've suffered for nothing?"

His fingers tap playfully against your sternum, over freshly bandaged sutures, and you hiss in pain. He smiles wider.

It did, you think. Not the thought that your suffering was pointless-- malicious and cruel for the sake of itself-- but the thought that he'll be forgotten with time, as all things are. But there's a glint in his eye now, a look you don't like. The sentiment turns to ash on your tongue, souring in your chest.

"I think I'll take you with me," He says, after a beat. "Since it doesn't matter, in the end."

A tear slides down your cheek and he clicks his tongue, wiping it away with his thumb.

"I need you to understand something," He tells you as he stands from the seat again, going back to what he was doing on the other side of the room, "I will never let you go. Do you understand? You will never see the light of day again. This lab will be the last thing you'll ever see."

Dottore must see the disappointment in your eyes. He clicks his tongue again, feigning sympathy. "But perhaps if you're good, I'll bring you something from the surface. As a reward. Now be quiet; these next tests don't require you to speak, and I don't need your input."

You feel numb.

i re-read young justice and think again about how peter david twice gave us what comics rarely show - abusive mothers who look like real living characters, not caricatures of bad parents. and at the same time, he allows them to receive arcs of redemption without sweeping their past sins under the rug.

bonnie king-jones and sylvia danvers are probably some of my favorite supporting characters in his works. they're tough women with many flaws who hurt their daughters badly, but also at the moment when they realize that they are about to lose cissie and linda, they stand up, admit their guilt and begin to work on themselves to fix these relationship.

it's not a complete reconciliation, but it's a start.

last year I tried to get into dracula daily a month late and read a ton of the archive all at once and HOLYYYYYY it is SO much creepier reading it from the start in real time. I’m finding myself feeling very detached from TTPD promo. It’s not hitting like previous albums. I am looking forward to it and I feel I will like it very much, but that’s as far as my excitement goes. Is it Easter egg fatigue? Is it my new job occupying too many brain cells? Is it the current predictability of her publicly presented personal life? Is it the lack of spice? Is it that it feels like it’s going to be a rehashing of the same old stuff from the last few years? Which is good in that I always like new tidbits, to fill in blanks, but I’m having trouble imagining it feeling fresh. Is it the long wait between announcement/track list and release? It feels empty without lead/promotional singles?

just saw a post by goobiestar where tigerclaw has been put on babysitting duty and they doodled him surrounded by tiny babies thinking "i cant believe bluestar is making me babysit a bunch of drooling pathetic whiny pieces of--" and with bonefall tigerstar being a genuinely good dad (at least when his babies were tiny) i have this image in my head of firepaw imagining this is what's happening and then it cuts to tigerclaw calmly playing teeterstrike with the babies

I'm telling a super different story from the other guys in my orbit LMAO, I've noticed that also. A lot of my.... fellow satellites? Companion Comets. Peripheral Planets. Lean into the comedy angle of Tigerclaw being a nasty little boy

I especially love that one comic (I think it's Blimbo?) Where he sees his younger sibs and just starts kitty-smacking them like a real cat lmao. Top tier. If the punchline is "KITTY SMACK" you'll kill me every time.

But yah BB!Tigerclaw is really important to understand as like... a guy. Just a shitty guy, has some good things about him, but ultimately the darkness within him is run-of-the-mill. He isn't special. Firestar comes to understand that any one of the dozens of assholes in his life could have become Tigerstar-- and that's TERRIFYING.

Evil is mundane and common. Goodness is complicated and unique.
