Misconceptions drive Persuasion. In one telling use of the title word near the novel's end, 'persuasion' becomes a synonym for misunderstanding. Meeting Captain Wentworth at the White Hart, Anne recalls how, at the previous day's encounter, "the same unfortunate persuasion, which had hastened him away from the concert room, still governed".
Trying to diversify my reading and bring some non-fiction in, and figured a deep dive into Jane Austen would be the best way to do it 🤷‍♀️

for reasons wretched and divine by penny_loaf
Okay so I really love time loop fics and I absolutely adored this Kanthony themed take on the trope. It's the way there's such a big range in emotion for both of them that makes the happily ever after feel so deserved.
Also, this is the new Bridgerton fanfiction quote background that I'll be sticking with. I wanted to stick with the Bridgerton blue idea as a good mnemonic.

Mrs.Totham was such a nice old thing, even if she was a necromancer engaged in dread communion with some ancient wizarding demon trapped within the skeleton of a mouse.

Hippogriff Homewrecking by mightbewriting
The devil works hard, but Dramione writers work harder. What else can explain the breadth and depth of scenarios that they dream up for the Draco/Hermione pair - including in this case, a story where Hermione is a Hippogriff homewrecker.
I honestly love fluffier fanfics like these because the Harry Potter fandom just lends itself so well to the more absurd premises.

Last- Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey
Current- Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
Next - The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
Just wanted to try a new way to post about the books I read. Going through these three, I'm covering the main three genres I tend to read.
Q. What genres do you like to read?

One thing about me is that I love TheDivineComedian's work. They've written about 15 harry potter fics and absolutely none of them have been less than stellar.
Therefore it's come to no one's surprise that I loved this fic too. Things I enjoyed in no particular order: the alternating viewpoints, the tension, the banter, the choice to focus on one canon diverging event in a short fic format and of course, the characters.
The way TheDivineComedian characterizes the Marauders is also almost exactly how my headcannons are (my true headcannon is probably a mix of TheDivineComedian and lyin - check out Glass of Water)

"I need money.
That's it.
I don't think these girls belong at a fat camp. Nobody does."
Okay so, Eat Your Heart Out is a horror satire book set at a fat camp.
The premise of this book, where the fat camp is creating zombies - was pretty much perfect. I loved how the book handled the conversation about weight and how it never made their characters be defined by being a fat character(?).
That said, a lot of this book was pure action, and a lot of the characters arc's suffers from this? The characters don't have much time to be fleshed out before they either die - the characters never subvert the tropes that they're defined as in the beginning of the book.
Q: Have you read books that take place in treatment centres/camps? How do you feel about those settings?

You destroy me and then you kiss me. You give me a reason to hate you and then you give me a reason to love you. Is this a lie or the truth? Is this a ploy or your heart reaching for me?

Okay so TVD and OVE were some of my favorite reads of the year.
Originally, I found it hard to get into the story - but then I realized the way it was framed, it felt like each chapter was almost an episodic journey - so we had our A plot and B plot.
Roma and Juliette were frustrating but so lovable, and I really liked how the location itself was set up to feel like a main character. I can't wait to revisit it when Foul Lady Fortune comes out.

It's been a few months since I watched bridgerton season 2 (if you're not counting the rewatch lmao) and I still can't get enough of Kanthony
Fics like this are godsend for filling the void in my heart.

There's always a romance every few years or so where I stop rooting for the main couple after the book's obligatory 75% break up point.
In 2020, it was The Unhoneymooners. In 2022, it was apparently Talk Bookish to Me. I'm not going to give spoilers for why I feel this way about Ryan and Kara (if you want that - check my "thoughts while reading" tab) but man was I actively rooting for Kara to find a new love interest at the end.
Sometimes I debate whether or not I should DNF a story when this happens to me - I might next time, because I just spent the last part of this book hate-reading.
CW: lingering grief, fatphobia,cheating
QOTD: Did you read a romance where you don't think the leads should be together? If so - what book, and why?

A Woman Well Reputed by MercuryGray
This was my first foray into the Downton Abbey fanfic world - and I quite enjoyed it. I loved Mary's character in the show for the first three season, she's a snob and she knew it.
Her character development faltered for me after Matthew's death just because it felt the writers didn't know what to do with her? And I didn't mind her ending up with Talbot tbh but it was just such a meh character arc for her by that point that season 6 Mary didn't really align with where I thought she'd end up.
This fic was just the perfect way to get her character back on track.
In other news, for some personal peace of mind, I'm going to start sticking with fixed backgrounds by fandom so that it's easier for anyone who visits my grid to figure out which posts are for what fandom. Fingers crossed it doesn't end up looking stupid.

I can't talk about my favorite reads of this year without mentioning Sadie. This book, from start to finish - was raw, emotional and just absolutely haunting. Side note I actually hate using the word raw - not sure what's up with that?
Courtney Summers is an author who I think can do no wrong (even if I wasn't the big fan of Fall for Anything) - and this book is no exception.
The way Summers balanced the podcast and Sadie's journey - my god. The story was framed perfectly and one of the only times I wished I'd been reading an audiobook instead of my own voice.
