Do you have recs for similar horror/spooky vibes as your IF? I just played Scarlett Hollow after reading of one of your posts, and obviously your IF is incredible, so I'm hungry for anything else you'd recommend. Books, movies, short stories, anything.

Ooooh I'm very excited and intimidated by this ask haha. Every time I'm asked for things I like I forget every piece of media I've ever consumed.

First off, thank you for the compliment; you're super sweet. And I hope you enjoyed Scarlet Hollow! It's one of my favorite games of all time <3

I'm gonna throw my recs under a cut because. Well. It Got Long.

For these recommendations, I'm going with a mix of similar vibes (small town/atmospheric/mystery) and also just stories that are really influential to me!!

Video Games: Oxenfree (amazing atmosphere, really fun mystery, strong character relationships), Control (stunning visuals, really cool creatures/lore, the way it plays with reality is just......), Slay the Princess (very much so a different type of horror, but by the same studio that made Scarlet Hollow and has incredible vibes). Honorable mentions to Silent Hill & Alan Wake; both are series I haven't personally played that I know have very similar vibes to my game!!

Other IFs: The Fog Knows Your Name (can't recommend this one enough, amazing vibes and a great mystery, genuinely one of my favorite IFs), The Passenger (eldritch horror, fun to play someone that isn't entirely human), and as for WIPs, Such Happy Campers (I'm so hooked on the mystery and the characters, plus great atmosphere).

TV Shows: Midnight Mass (small town horror, incredible plot and visuals, a HUGE inspiration for TLS) and also Haunting of Hill House (genuinely breathtaking, an amazing cast, a great mystery & sense of creeping dread), Over the Garden Wall (the atmosphere and emotional core of the story are incredible), The Twilight Zone (instrumental for my development as a horror fan, especially surrealist horror), Gravity Falls (more light-hearted than everything else, but still small town horror). Honorable mention for Twin Peaks, which I haven't seen (yet) but also to my knowledge has very similar vibes!

Movies: The Thing (isolated horror, incredible atmosphere, fantastic body horror), Coraline (unreality, things being not quite right), and It Follows (not actually my favorite movie lol, but I love the sense of being out of time it conjures). Most of my favorite horror movies aren't actually all that similar to my own project, but the first two Scream movies, Alien, and Nope are some of my favorites <3

Books: I've forgotten every single book I've ever read, but I'm a life-long Stephen King fan. The Mist, Under the Dome, and Salem's Lot all inspired Lonely Shore one way or another. Also a big fan of Misery, Needful Things, 11/22/63, and The Stand. My all-time favorite short story is The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, which also includes a town where something is very wrong.

Other: Originally TLS was a Monster of the Week campaign I ran; which is one of my favorite ttrpgs. So if you're into tabletop and/or horror, I highly recommend checking it out!!

Horror podcast rec, if you're into that sort of thing: The Silt Verses. A world where divinity is tangible, measurable, and well-regulated. It follows two followers of an illegal god, the Trawlerman of Tide and Flesh. Truly visceral sound design and descriptions, lots of body horror.

Thank you for the recs but the I'm not really into narrative podcasts rn, I'm mostly listening to things like Podcast: The Ride, Behind the Bastards, Insert Credit and the various Jamie Loftus shows rn. In maybe 6 months I'll switch over and I'll get back into nosleep and other horror podcasts though so I'll keep these recs in mind ^_^

Chinese is my first language. But I was fluent only in the words my parents deemed it necessary for me to know. I was certainly not taught the words for breast, cunt, ass, or orgasm. There were no words for sex; therefore, sex did not exist.

I came out as a lesbian when I was twenty-one, but I didn't start writing about sex until almost a decade later. Sure, I wrote love poems, but I never wrote about sex. I was, after all, a nice Chinese girl and we didn't''t talk about things like that. --

I have always loved women passionately. I love the way a femme moves across a dance floor, knowing all eyes are focused on her. I love the hard eye-to-eye look from another butch as she sizes me up as competition- or her next conquest. I love the fluid seduction in a femmes eyes. I love the long line of her neck, her delicate earlobes and soft lips, painted some shade of red or unpainted but deeply flushed from having been kissed long and hard. Many times. I love the curve of her breast, the hardness of her nipples, the softness of her stomach, the fullness of her ass, her legs with a faint covering of hair or long and sleek in black silk stockings. I love the strength of her in her thighs, the firmness of her biceps, the feel of her forearms as she takes me. I love the smell of her heat and the place of pleasure between her legs. I love her ankles and her delicate toes and her soft instep where I run my tongue until my teeth are gripping her Achilles tendon. I love the smell of her, the taste of her, the feel of her, the sight of her. I love women passionately.

Never mind that I have a long history of writing, community organizing, and activism. Now I am judged solely for my leather sexuality. Until I drowned in Fujitani-san's love and care - Douge Konome (8.5/10)

A happy and devoted yandere, with an equally happy partner! It's wholesome in a dark way! He definitely stalked her after she broke up with him, but that's ok! It was all a misunderstanding! She was just insecure!

Chiho is young and inexperienced. Her first ever boyfriend is perfect, great in bed, polite, handsome and a little older than her. She's also pretty. Her life is perfect!

Wait it's not? There's a time skip and they're no longer dating. She meets him again at her new company. What a strange coincidence.

He's back in her life, and she misses him.

She does regret leaving him.

She had so much fun with him, but Chiho is insecure in a very normal and believable way.

She wasn't sure if she was ready for a serious relationship.

She knew Fujitani was more mature than her and she was afraid he would become dissatisfied with her.

These are ugly thoughts but they're to be expected when you enter your first relationship.

After all, marrying your first means you never get to play the field or explore your own preferences.

Fujitani can be intense too. He likes taking care of her needs, but she has a career path in mind and she's not sure....she's just not sure if she can handle the stress of being dependent on someone.

She's the one who ended it, and he didn’t fight with her....because he's a mature man.

He didn’t even ask her why.

She just left.

She dated around, but it wasn't what she expected. She didn't learn new things or find a less mature, more fun type of love experience.

She just found men who cared less.

Fujitani confronts her pretty much immediately. He's been waiting for her to come back to him. He knew the other guys were just flings, but Chiho hasn't come back yet.

Now he's out hunting.

He invites her into his new home. It's HER dream home. He made her a princess closet and he built her dream kitchen.

His sexual preferences aren't too abnormal but he does want Chiho to behave like a doll at home. He knows she enjoys it, and he also accepts that she wanted to explore her options a bit...but he's the best option and he's confident about it.

He even picks her perfume and shampoo.

He sees acts of service as pure love.

The doll play is more extreme, but Chiho has made her choice. She missed Fujitani-san's love, and she doesn’t want him to get away either.

Thinking about him moving on and getting another doll makes her mad, so she let's him take control. BUT she's fully aware that he has needs too. Needs that can't be fulfilled without her. It seems like they have a mostly equal partnership, and they get along great even when they aren't indulging in doll play.

Gentle!Price who initiates contact by offering his hand, palm up, for you to accept or refuse on your own time. Sometimes, you accept. But mostly, you refuse. And he never makes you feel bad about it either way.

Gentle!Price who ducks his head with a smile when the two of you are out for a walk and you link your little finger with his. Or press your leg against his under the dinner table.

Gentle!Price who stands before you after dinner one night and slowly brings his hands up, studying your expression to see how you'll react. When he cups his palms to your face, it's wonderful and overwhelming and you're not breathing but you're not running away either, so you take that as a win. "There you go, love," he murmurs softly, because he always speaks softly around you. "That's not so bad, is it?"

Gentle!Price who waits with endless patience as you reach across the gap between the two of you with shaky fingers and trip over his belt, wander up the buttons of his coat, and rest your hand against the solid warmth of his chest. He knows how hard that was for you but it's a sign of how far you've conquered together.

Gentle!Price who always leaves an available space on the couch for you beside him. Just in case you need it. When you walk through his door after a long day and drop beside him, burying your face in his shoulder with a grumble because people suck and I really missed you, he just gives that delicious deep rumbling laugh you've come to love so much and tugs you more fully into his arms with a kiss to the top of your head.

and I have recently discovered Plottr that im going to use for my rewrite and it looks really useful so far! (excuse the "something happens" example I was just trying to show how it looks lols)

they aren't completely free but they do offer free trials. I do think scrapple is 100% worth the money and have been using it religiously for years. ive just started using Plottr but I like it so far!

and unrelated but if you like keeping track of your work or you like setting deadlines: pacemaker is amazing for that hehe (and the free version has all the features you need!)
