Ok this is a funny idea but like

Does the damn group know that Freelancer and Gavin technically have a kid??

Just imagine freelancer saying in passing “oh yeah Caelum would want this let’s get it” to a tiny sweater that would only fit a child. Huxley overheard and did see them put it in there cart but maybe it’s a birthday gift?

Gavin for a split second asking, “wait did we leave Caelum alone at home?” When the gang is going on a short trip, freelancer responding “nah, he’s with [insert name of his mentor because I forgot it] for the weekend :-)” and then continuing on talking like they didn’t bring up this mystery person the group has never seen.

Just your average conversation until either one accidentally brings him up to each other. Lasko thinks it’s freelancers cousin that comes over occasionally. Huxley thinks it’s their little brother.

But Damien does find out when he was over at FL and Gavin’s place and accidentally overheard a part of their conversation from the kitchen, “…I mean your basically like his dad? I feel like a parent…” (hc that freelancer feels a lot of parental love for Caelum and frequently gets into parental mode with him without realizing)

“….are we Cae’s parents???” Freelancer just thinking out loud before Gavin says something but Damien is already wracking his brain. I mean, if you look around there apartment there’s a small table filled with paper, coloring pencils and beads. He knows that the guest room can’t be slept in. Is that Caelums room.

Just a mini conspiracy until Damien tries to subtly give a pamphlet to Gavin for “advice and resources for young parents”. He might giggle and then he’d realize: oh shit they think we have a kid.

Do they eventually ask straight up because like, why are you hiding a child from your friends? So eventually Damien asks in a roundabout way and then Gavin said, “I told you they thought we were his parents.”

“Pff what??? Nooo…”

I think Gavin just comes out says that they take care of a young demon and they’ve may or may not latched on together and occasionally his heart dies when he sees FL and Caelum doodling together or doing typical parent activities. Nope, just babysitters. Definitely not adopted parents.
