It wouldn't be until Mega Man X4 until we could play through the entire game as Zero, but man, every kid thought he was so much cooler than X! Zero warmup.

Kissing a Reploid would taste like soap because their "saliva" is actually a type of non-toxic cleaning fluid.

I liked the questioning about repli beauty you brought up. So, as we go into this rabbit hole, can we attribute the appearance and preferences for own image of a repli to previous programming and the way the X program developed itself?
Like, it started with humans building the first repli series and setting human society as a parameter of likeness for non-battle/labor replis, and from there, the replis just continued the trend when building the next ones?
Also, is the operating system on the next one based on a blank template or does it come from the repli that programmed/designed them, in a kinda genetical passing manner?
a fantastic question! there's a lot of big question marks about how things work in the X world that aren't really delved into. the question of operating systems is a surprisingly straightforward one, as we know that there are at least three eras of reploids: the original line made from X's template, the improved line made by Dr. Doppler from the X3+ era, and the "New Generation" Reploids in X8+ made by an unspecified designer/developer for spaaaaaace work.
but image preferences? hooooooooooooooooooo. i can't offer a solid answer. but here's some ramblings about my thoughts.
what we DO know is that Reploids were derived from X's template and that they started off as copies of his design/aesthetic, and if we're to take the Archie series as any level of canon (probably level 2 extra-canon) we have a very clear visual as to what the early reploids looked like. and that, despite this, the X series features mostly furry robots as characters.
now, on an out-of-universe level, i want to say that i remember this decision was made because it creates more imposing silhouettes--megaman is a franchise designed for baby children first and foremost, and it's easy for child brain to correlate humanoid shapes as friends and feral beasts as enemies. however, A: i cannot find a source for this, and B: Sonic the Hedgehog
in either case, whatever the reason is, in-universe we have a very clear disparity between the originator of reploids being humanoid (the original term repliroid is even a portmanteau of "replica" [in the likeness of] and "android" [a humanoid machine]) and the majority of on-screen reploids not being humanoid. which tells me that body image is a BIG THING among reploid culture, and either chassis remodeling is a relatively easy process or a lot of reploids are willing to invest a lot into being a different person than who they started out as.
this is something briefly touched in the Classic series, with Tundra Man (a late line Robot Master) intentionally remodeling himself into a body type that he prefers, but it's fleshed out further with the (chronologically farther) X world in the design changes to the non-animal characters--Zero, Alia, and Sigma all similarly sport different bodies as the series goes on. the only person who doesn't change much in the main series is X, ironically enough, outside of Command Mission. Alia X8 and Layer are silly designs that were designed for fanservice first and foremost, but we can reasonably surmise that (in-universe) they chose to look that way. i'm not about to tell a woman she can't wear a car hood as a bra if she wants to, but i will think that it'd look better if it was put back on the jeep because i need that to fucking drive.
meanwhile, there's a lot of obvious correlations to be made with early X Mavericks and their designs being optimized for the environment. icy area gets the penguin. aerial area gets the eagle. underwater area gets the octopus. but as the series goes on, the correlations become significantly less appropriate and it's clear that animals were chosen for their design aesthetic. the munitions factory gets.....the hornet.....? i guess, like...the hornet stinger missiles.......?
it makes more sense if you take iwamoto's X mangas as level 2 extra-canon like the archie comics, because Blast Hornet was a reploid biker-gangster punk who became a hornet for the shock factor. which ends up leaning back to the original theory that reploids ultimately end up choosing how they look--if not from the onset, then further down the line.
you could probably make a solid argument that the X series is a very trans-friendly future, and that nearly every major character is trans and nobody bats an eye about it. instead the robot police are mad about the crimes and murder. but the creed is "be gay do crimes" so this is actually oppression 🙄

I think one of the coolest things about Mega Man X and making OCs for it is that Reploids can be almost anything you want with any power, and they got a COOL world they come from too. It’s a paradise for creativity.

These drawings were gifts, requests, and commissions for people. 😊
From left to right:
#1. Art trade for Bumpkin in Discord of Chamomile
#2. Art trade for @trainno4 of Mako (above) and Lancer (below)
#3. Art trade for @trainno4 of Alma
#4. Request of an OC named Mishi (forgot the person’s username 😩)
#5. Commission of Skorne for BB Donpa
#6.Gift of an OC named Oshi (fun fact, his expression looked more serious until I accidentally inked the mouth into a smile and drew the background to fit the happy, calm mood ☺️)
#7. Request of Alm, Marth, and Ike throughout the years 🙌🏻
While I don’t do art requests anymore, I will still draw gifts for friends when I feel like practicing or just want to 😛. With how busy I’ve gotten lately (and likely busier when the other holidays arrive) I won’t post often but I can still do commissions for an income boost! I might update my commission sheet to be less confusing but the prices will remain the same, so ask me any questions!

What are your hcs for the Reploids?
I got a few headcanons for me to share!
-Based on real life animals, the reploids sometimes do things by their animal Instincts (Licking themselves, wiping faces with their hands, etc)
-They mostly feed on oil and other energy sources
-And what makes them unique from Robot Masters, is that they have enhanced skills (based on what animal they are)

Sinhunter AU: The 7 Vitures/HERS hunters
Originally created by the Reploid Federation as a means of hunting down Synthetics (Reploid term for Second/Third Era humans) those who had Hereditary Evil Raiser Syndrome (HERS) and eventually repurposed as a means of hunting down and containing Sin Vessels before going rouge.
Modeled off of creatures from First Era folktales and each given a codename that reflects one of the “Seven Heavenly Virtues” in counterpart to the respective Sin Vessel they were (Re)designed to capture:
Charity: Griffin “Stormwind the Noble Chief”
Chastity: Will-o’-the-Wisp “Irrlicht the Guiding Light.”
Diligence: Kamaitachi “Nogama the Sharp Blade”
Humility: Asian Dragon/Lung “Seiryu the Humble Sage”
Kindness: Golem “Tsur the Gentle Titan”
Patience: Mermaid/Siren “Nainia the Peaceful Shaman”
Temperance: Chimera “Gula the Objective Judge”
All 7 are equipped with an experimental time travel device similar to the ones found in RF timejumper vessels that allows them to jump between timeframes of the Third Era (However, they are restricted to the 1000 year timeframe and nothing before or beyond that). They also all have the ability to take on a more humanoid form that is heavily implied to be their actual true forms (which will be seen in their backstories more frequently)
Prior to the main story, the Virtues were well regarded by most of the Reploid population as heroes. It’s not known what made them go rogue but some believe it may have been due to the Sin Vessels influencing them which lead them to display strange behaviors leading up to an incident that resulted in the death of a high ranking figure of the RF.
Afterwards, the virtues disappeared and were never heard from again. Spending their days terrorizing Synthetics and on-world Reploids throughout history.
Awaiting the day they are finally retired for good..

This interests me! Let's try to apply it to reploids!
Every reploid seems to have their own self-repair system, which I assume requires their own energy in order to function, just like humans need food and rest to recover from injuries. I think a reploid's self-repair system works faster than a human's. Their bodies can survive more extreme conditions than human bodies can, possibly including the ability to fast-track healing of wounds.
The current theory is that self-repair happens via nanomachines.
Healer reploids are very unusual for the Mega Man X series. I believe the only character ever portrayed as having an ability to heal others is Cinnamon, from MMX Command Mission; she also is a Force Metal generator. Whatever Force Metal is, Cinnamon's ability to generate Force Metal out of thin air might have something specific to do with her ability to heal. That's her primary ability; her attacks are simple melee attacks with her gloves.
My OC Mithy is a healer reploid. I have decided that she has low health, low attack power, but really good agility/movement/dodging powers and potent healing abilities. She is designed to run with a unit and passively boost their self-repair abilities as her primary, and supply direct healing by using energy from her personal aura/force-field generator.
Mithy keeps a constant bubble of dense energy around her at all times. This field disrupts/softens, and in some cases absorbs, the blow from energy weapons. She is quite vulnerable to melee attacks. This energy field spreads out around her in a modest range and prompts periodic repairs in her teammates based on the level of energy contained in the bubble.
Everything revolves around that buffer. If it runs low or runs out completely, the only way Mithy can grant healing is by sacrificing the energy needed to repair herself. If that happens and her energy fully runs out, she has a failsafe that puts her into a state of deep sleep. Protections are minimal while sleeping. Should she sustain enough damage to that final shield, she will go offline, and potentially suffer serious damage that requires invasive repairs and significant downtime.
Thus, her team is incentivized to protect her at all costs. As a team member, she can provide sustainability and also scouting, as well as limited air mobility. Her wings allow her to drift and hop and dodge like a bird.
Going back to the main point, if her healing draws from a teammate's self-repair system, it makes perfect sense that it would gradually deplete their energy reserves. Extra energy would need to be taken along with them to guarantee upkeep, although the healing boon would definitely increase the longevity of their missions overall. Large wounds would likely result in falling unconscious until the rest of the team could supply enough energy for recovery.
Further refinement of Mith's skills would likely use less of the Hunter's own energy reserves to heal wounds.
Healing Magic has a limit. If the body has been healed too deeply at once it will die. This is why healing magic is only done with minor injuries and stabilizing patients. As a nutritionalist you discover that it’s because healing magic needs calories and nutrients to repair injuries.

This took a lot of effort but I made it 😮💨. Midterms were stressful but I made it 👊🏻.
I now colored him with an olive green base and shaded with dark green Prismacolor and he looks way better 😄! Now Blake is much closer to his intended color scheme.
