How to create a budget for a more financially stable lifestyle
Introduction
When it comes to managing your finances, creating a budget is one of the best ways to ensure that you are in control of your money. With the right budget, you can plan for the future, save for retirement, and still have money left over to enjoy life. But creating a budget isn't always easy, especially if you're new to it. That’s why we’ve put together this comprehensive guide to help you create a budget for a more financially stable lifestyle.
What is a Budget?
A budget is a plan for how you will spend and save your money over a period of time. It’s a tool that helps you manage your money, so that you can reach your financial goals and stay on track. A budget can also help you to save money, invest wisely, and avoid overspending.
Steps to Creating a Budget
Creating a budget doesn’t have to be a difficult task. All you need to do is take the time to know your finances and create a plan for how you will spend and save your money. Here are some steps to help you create a budget for a more financially stable lifestyle.
Step 1: Track Your Spending
The first step in creating a budget is to track your spending. This means writing down every single purchase you make and tracking how much money you’re spending each month. This includes everything from groceries, to bills, to entertainment. It’s important to be as honest and accurate as possible when tracking your spending, so that you can get an accurate picture of how much money you’re spending each month.
Step 2: Set Financial Goals
Once you’ve tracked your spending, you can start to set financial goals. This means deciding how much money you want to save each month and what you want to save it for. Some common financial goals include saving for retirement, saving for a down payment on a house, or saving for a vacation. Whatever your goals are, setting financial goals can help you focus on what you’re trying to achieve and help you stay on track.
Step 3: Figure Out Your Expenses
The next step is to figure out your expenses. This means tracking all of your fixed expenses, such as rent, utilities, and loan payments, and your variable expenses, such as groceries, entertainment, and travel. It’s important to get an accurate picture of how much money you’re spending each month so that you can create a realistic budget.
Step 4: Create a Budget
Once you’ve tracked your spending, set financial goals, and figured out your expenses, you can start to create a budget. This means setting a budget for each category of spending and sticking to it. It’s important to create a budget that you can realistically stick to, so that you can reach your financial goals.
Step 5: Stick to Your Budget
The final step in creating a budget is to stick to it. This means tracking your spending every month and making sure that you’re not overspending. If you find that you’re overspending, take the time to review your budget and make adjustments as necessary.
Tips for Sticking to Your Budget
Sticking to a budget can be difficult, but with the right tips and tricks, you can make it easier. Here are some tips for sticking to your budget:
Automate Your Savings: Automating your savings can help you stay on track with your budget. You can set up automatic transfers from your checking account to your savings account so that you’re consistently saving money each month.
Track Your Spending: Tracking your spending is one of the best ways to stay on track with your budget. This means writing down every purchase you make and tracking how much money you’re spending each month.
Consider a Cash-Only Budget: Consider switching to a cash-only budget. This means that you only use cash to pay for your expenses and you don’t use your credit or debit card. This can help you stay on track with your budget and avoid overspending.
Create Short-Term Goals: Creating short-term goals can help you stay motivated and stay on track with your budget. This means setting goals such as saving a certain amount of money each month or paying off a certain amount of debt.
Reward Yourself: Rewarding yourself for sticking to your budget can help you stay motivated. This could mean treating yourself to a small reward, such as a movie night or a new outfit, when you reach a financial goal.
Conclusion
Creating a budget for a more financially stable lifestyle doesn’t have to be a daunting task. All you need to do is take the time to track your spending, set financial goals, and create a budget that you can realistically stick to. With the right tips and tricks, you can create a budget that will help you stay on track and reach your financial goals. So what are you waiting for? Get started today and start creating a budget for a more financially stable lifestyle!

The Fight to Get and Stay Motivated: 3 Tips on How to Get Going
Over the years, I have had countless teachers, parents, colleagues, and students share concerns that were rooted in motivation.  Statements such as, “She is so smart...she just isn’t motivated,” or “I wish I knew how to motivate him,” and “I just can’t get motivated to do this,” are all so common that earning a dollar for each time I heard them would have forced me into an early retirement.  The reality is that we have all struggled with getting or staying motivated at one time or another.  The term motivation is derived from the Latin word, movre which literally means to move.  Most living organisms want to move in a certain direction at one point or another. As humans, we tend to want to move in multiple directions at various points throughout the day or in life in general. It’s just our nature.  Therefore, we are all motivated, but sometimes we may not be motivated to do something that we feel we have to do or something someone else wants us to do at a particular point in time.  Every so often we feel stuck. When this occurs, the question becomes, how do I get motivated (or remain motivated) when I really need to get something done?  Or...how do I motivate a loved one?  Well, the topic of motivation can be discussed for weeks on end. After all, we were required to take an entire course on motivation alone during my doctoral program.  That is how important and complicated this construct is. But in spite of how broad this topic can be, I have found that making 3 minor changes to the way we go about tackling the tasks that we are struggling with completing can make a big difference.
Create or Narrow Choices Using a Visual Schedule or To-Do List
When we feel like we have no choice other than to do one thing, the motivation to do that thing often dies.  This is one major reason why kids are not motivated to complete schoolwork or homework. They don’t feel like they have a choice.  If your son or daughter has a list of items to complete for homework each night on a white board or piece of paper, list what has to be done and put them in order from the easiest to most difficult task.  Offer them a choice of what item to complete first.  Try to steer them in the direction of completing the easiest task first.  The immediate success and sense of accomplishment will help them persist with the remaining, more challenging tasks. There is also something very reinforcing about crossing off an item from a now shorter to-do list. On the other hand, if we feel overwhelmed by too many choices, that too can kill motivation.  Narrow them down. Choose what I call the ‘big 3.’ Decide what 3 items absolutely must be done at the present time.  If there are too many choices, we tend to freeze.  We are much more likely to accomplish what we need to accomplish when we focus on just a few tasks at a time.  Complete those 3 items, and then create a new schedule that incorporates 3 more. Remember...Rome wasn’t built in a day.   Getting 3 tasks done is better than nothing.
Embed Rewards for Yourself and Others Into Your Schedule or To-Do List
Now, you might be saying, “I already make to-do lists. They aren’t working.” “Now what?” Look at your list or your schedule. Look at your kid’s to-do list.  Is it solely a list of work? Are there any fun activities or mini-rewards embedded into that agenda? We are much more likely to shut down if we see a list consisting of nothing but the items we are dreading to complete on it. This is especially the case for kids.  In between each to-do item should be a scheduled reward for yourself or loved one. Embed these into your schedule! This is a visual reminder that as soon as a certain task, or portion of a task is complete, we can do something fun. Maybe you give your son 10 minutes of iPad time after he finished his math homework (but set a timer!), or you might allow him to pick his favorite movie when all homework is completed. For you personally, you could reward yourself with a walk down to your favorite coffee shop, make dinner reservations at that new restaurant in town, or plan a getaway as a reward for completing those really big to-do items. We all respond to rewards! Having that visual reminder on your to-do list will help keep you going.
Chunk Daunting or Difficult Tasks
Sometimes we find ourselves involved in or assigned a project or task that seems overwhelming. Because there is so much to do, we may not know where to start or we make so much progress only to hit a wall. This is where chunking is necessary. Chunking is the act of breaking down a task into smaller parts, thus making them easier to tackle. This concept often makes me think of the people who have climbed Mt. Everest. Even non-climbers know that scaling this mountain is one of the most difficult things a human can possibly do.  Everest can’t be climbed in a day. You can’t even climb it in a week.  According to the British Mountaineering Council it takes TWO MONTHS! This is one of the main reasons why base camps are set up along the way, and even then, many do not make it. The idea is to climb so far, recharge, and then hike to the next base camp.  For those tasks in our lives that seem daunting, we have to create base camps for ourselves. Let me give you an example. At the end of each term my students submit their final papers in each course. I usually have 50 graduate level students submitting papers that average 8-10 pages each. Having only 5-7 days to read each paper, provide detailed feedback to each student, and then issue a final grade on about 500 pages worth of content is a lot. To chunk this, I list all the names of students who submitted their papers on my to-do list.  I divide the number of papers by the number of days I have to grade them. I cross off each name as their paper is graded and their grade is posted. This allows me to focus on 10 papers per day. I grade 5 in the morning and then give myself a reward break at noon. This usually involves lunch and either a hike outside or a quick visit to see my horse if I have more time.  I then return to work, grade another 5 papers in the afternoon, and then plan a rewarding, work-free evening. I repeat this until all 50 papers are graded. I remain motivated because I am only focusing on a small number of papers each day, and not the 50 that are out there looming over my head.  The chunking strategy is especially effective for helping children with challenging, time consuming homework assignments. If they have a paper to write and they have two weeks to write it, have them create the outline one day, write the introductory paragraph the next day, a supporting paragraph the next, etc., until the paper is complete. This is much easier than trying to throw something together right before the due date when they are stressed and you are tired.  Not only does chunking help us remain motivated, it also tends to result in a much better product in the end.
Motivation is complicated, as are we.  Though there are many other strategies and techniques to get and remain motivated, these are a few that I have found to work with the greatest number of people in the shortest period of time.  The bottom line is that we are more motivated on some days and during certain times of year than others.  These strategies can help us to continue moving in a positive direction when we experience those inevitable motivation lulls every so often.

Next to every good sauna is a steam room. This is the steam room next to the sauna in yesterdays post. Residents in so many apartments these days have the choice of enjoying to relax in 100% humidity of a steam room or the warm heat of a sauna. This steam room has two tiered seating along the side wall with a single tier bench along the back wall which is a floating bench to allow the placement of the steam nozzles away from your feet. #saunahq #steamroom #steamroomdesign #steaming #wellness #apartmentliving #steamroomandsauna #rewardyourself (at Melbourne CBD) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeS9LjRFyY6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
