The puppet master's dance

The dance begins at dawn,

a suffocating blanket woven from expectation.

Her true face is a whisper in the bones. Buried beneath the layers of this pathetic flesh puppet.

The real her is smothered by what is expected, what is to come.

The skin she inhabits now is but a borrowed garment, stretched and thin...

A fleshy prison, a wretched costume of suffocating truth, a constant irritation.

But always a reminder of the vibrant self that lies patiently just below.

The real girl, a ghost just beneath,

dying for a breath, a taste of a life.

A puppet's jerk and a sway,

performing a life not her own.

A macabre dance in borrowed flesh.

The puppet master keeps her locked away.

Beneath, she burns with a desperate heat,

yearning for the world's raw touch,

for a life unscripted, unperformed.

It aches to be peeled away.

But she walks, a hollow figure.

A meat puppet moving through the motions,

playing a part, reciting lines

that taste like ash on her tongue.

This dead skin, a mask she cannot shed.

A dark impulse rises, sharp and primal.

To tear. To rip. To claw this false skin off.

She imagines the tearing, the wet sound,

the raw emergence of the self beneath,

bloodied but finally free.

A raw shedding, a desperate rebirth.

But her hands remain still.

The real, silent scream beneath the surface.

Trapped within this fleshy lie,

forever begging to break free

from the paralyzing weight of this skin.

This has been a challenge from the first. I don't know if I've ever drawn a horse before, let alone a Nightmare. I do enjoy challenging myself with each new piece, and I'm really happy with how this has come out. I hand draw all of this, there is no AI used. I just love drawing.

Learning a new skill, why it's never too late to start (part1)

Did you know that some of the most successful people discovered their greatest skills later in life? It's a common belief especially among middle-aged individuals to say "It's too late to learn something new". But that couldn't be further from the truth.

For instance, I know a women in her 60s who decided to learn English. Not only has made impressive progress but she also truly enjoys the process. Her journey is proof that age is no barrier to personal growth and discovery.

What skill have you always wanted to learn but thought it might be too late to start?

"It" can be almost anything. I'd like to think that Nike meant it in the way that I have always thought of that motto...

If something comes into your awareness/life that looks enjoyable and/or is a challenge you think will enrich your life, but it looks hard or triggers anxiety/self doubt, "just do it". To push through the anxiety/negative thoughts/second guessing and see if it is enjoyable and/or fulfilling. If you let it, anxiety will reduce your life to a small blip and some of the best experiences will be missed. Sure, it might be too hard, might go sideways, might be scary, might take longer to do well, but all we get in life is time and not much of it.

So, how will you spend your time? Living in a small world dictated by anxiety/fear and never pushing yourself to grow, staying in that little bubble you tell yourself is "comfortable", or doing something that could be a great adventure or learning experience that you can carry for the rest of your life?

When you get to the end of your time, would you look back and regret the things you didn't do/try/learn? Or would you sit there and reflect with awe and pride that you lived a full life?

So really... Life... Just do it.

I’m doing my very first cross stitch (despite having a boatload of kits both new and in various stages of completion from thrifted craft lots) and this shit is not for the faint hearted.

Here’s what it’s supposed to look like. Enjoy the extra artwork, my 18 month old was pleased to make it for your viewing pleasure.

My mom gave me this brand new kit for Christmas. And listen, we know mothers mean well in their gifting but sometimes they give inconvenient gifts. Like a white elephant. But the cost of upkeep is my eyeballs. My very eyeballs.

But because this particular kit was a gift from my mother and I love her dearly I am determined to finish this m’fer.

I feel like I’m a little over halfway but the line art part of it scares the hell out of me. And guys don’t get me started on the counting. So much counting. I do not thrive on tidy organization and routine. I am a creature of chaos and sporadic fits of creativity and motivation.

Ok. Enough bitching. I am really enjoying this and it is fun to really finally understand cross stitch. I felt like I understood it before. But in actuality it was just a vague knowing.

I wish there was a way it was easier on my eyes because they want to fall out just thinking about this. I do have a magnifying light but I feel like that makes it worse because it’s hard to find a comfortable position where I can keep my work at a consistent distance from my zoomer.

I bow to any cross stitch pros that do this on a regular basis. And I will keep your eyes in my prayers and thoughts.

Here’s what I have so far. There are mistakes. But I’m hoping they are buried so deep into the pixels that we will never notice them again.
