things i noticed/thoughts about most recent rewatches of dps (plus laserdisk deleted scenes):

whenever theres a group scene i've started watching the characters that the story isn't focusing on to see what they do and i've been having a fun time with that. pitts and cameron specifically seem to almost always be doing something interesting in the background.

hopkins!!!! my favorite minor character who somehow got character development despite having like 2 lines!!!! the last guy to stand on the desk but he did it!!!

sometimes i do like to think about what the rest of the students thought about the dead poets society, esp in alternate timeline neil lives dps keeps meeting universe. like yeah theres this guy in their class whose one of the most credited students in the school and we think he maybe started a cult. idk though. but that group runs out into the woods every few days to do god knows what and one of them keeps talking about "dead poets honor" whatever that means and holy shit welton star student neil perry started a cult.

i watched the movie with headphones. and maybe it's because ive seen this movie Far too many times and mabe i'm listening too hard but it was Really obvious sometimes when audio was added in post production. llke in the sweaty toothed madman scene when you can hear laughing and to be fair the camera is behind their heads. but it does Not look like anyone's laughing. my favorite is at the end of the phone call to chris scene where knox is like i'm gonna seize the day!! and runs up the stairs and the poets are cheering him on and neil is sort of yelling "carpe!!!!" and i could be wrong but i'm like 75% certain that the person singing is Also rsl so now neil is just speaking two times at once somehow. anyways it didn't ruin the experience for me or anything it was maybe just a little bit funny to notice but very sorry if this did ruin anyone's viewing.

people talk a lot about how rsl and ethan hawke really made their characters what they are but i have to add dylan kussman to that list. I get the impression that older versions of the movie didn't really give as much depth to cameron and watching dylan kussmans performance is like. he Knew who his character was so fucking well and it shows!! like the deleted scene of them getting clubs assigned. like i could tell So Much about cameron from that scene

for how little she actually appeared, there is an emphasis put on the fact that neil's mom smokes pretty frequently. and i think that's interesting considering neil is one of two poets shown actively smoking. neil's mom doesn't appear for very long in the movie but during that time it definitely seems like the movie is intentionally making parallels between the two, particularly in the last argument with neil's father. neil and his mother are both sitting for almost the whole time, which contrasts with his father who is standing. they are both almost powerless in this scene. they stand up at almost the same time. anyways there's a couple different possibilities for what this could mean? that i've though of? 1. to show that neil's mother is in a similar situation to the one neil is in in regards to neil's father and 2. maybe a stretch here but the theory that neil inherited his mental illness at least partially from his mother. i'm pretty sure 1 was fully intentional on the directors part, not entirely sure about 2 though

unmanned flying desket scene: it's probably cause he and ethan wrote the scene themselves but the way rsl talks in this scene feels more like the way he talks in general than the rest of the script. like briefly neil perry is talking in rsl's voice. one of my absolute favorite scenes though the sarcastic dialogue is so good.

my thoughts on white boy carl. i js wanted to say before hand i fucking hated the white boy carl era it was js plain fucking racist. the first time i watched shameless i wasnt a huge fan of white boy carl but i didnt hate it. ive recently rewatched it and can say i fucking hated it. it was annoying. the writers having carl say the nword was like a slap to the fucking face cause carl has always been one of my favs and it is js like...why??? Carl Gallagher is probably the least shitty person in his entire family besides Liam, but it can never be said that he's particularly intelligent. If you pay close attention to the show, you can see from people's reactions when he uses the N -word (not once but twice) that the show is self-aware. Carl along with the rest of the Gallaghers are very ignorant people, him acting that way is directly in line with his character. The show knows he shouldn't be doing that, but because he was in juvie and looked after by the black kids. (carl has a tendency to change himself to the ppl around him and that rlly shows with white boy carl) he picked up whatever they let him and yes, you can bet they let him. (he didn't do his own cornrows). That doesn't make it okay in the real world but this is a show and that's just how writing works.

The point of this is that Carl genuinely thinks he's black, he lacks that much self-awareness. he is that fucking dumb. i truly wish white boy carl never fucking happened. it baffles me when ppl say white boy carl was there fav era

9. bumi- yeah he kinda sucks as an airbender lmao. i loveeeee bumi and to be so honest i really really REALLY wish he had stayed a nonbender. it was such an important part of his character and what made him so interesting. but alas he has to be an airbender. boring lame boo!!!!! but he does do a few cool things. good job bumi.

8. opal- boringggg snoozeeeee. i don’t really like opal. but she airbends which is cool. i dont remember her doing anything significant at all as an airbender though lol. maybe that’s on me because i dont care about her character so i just forgot, but from what i remember she’s a good airbender, just nothing special.

7. kai- kind of a similar situation to opal where he doesn’t seem to be special but i will say i think him and airbending compliment each other very well. he naturally is able to utilize airbending which is honestly reminiscent of aang to me a tiny bit. obviously he’s not on his level at all but the vibes are still there! but yeah other than natural ability he doesn’t have anything else of note imo. it’s kinda like he just plateaus after the timeskip i feel like? idk i shoulve made these lists immediately after my most recent rewatch lol.

6. meelo- hate him HAHAHAHA sorryyyyyyy. his fart stuff is so annoying. however i think its obvious that all of tenzins kids are great airbenders and it comes pretty naturally to them. so yeah all three are excellent he is just the least impressive to me.

5. ikki- i loveeeeeeee ikki omg. but she’s very similar to meelo to me in that she is clearly naturally gifted and practically a master airbender but i don’t remember her doing anything really impressive that would make her any higher. she gets to be higher than meelo because i like her way more and she doesn’t fartbend. congrats ikki!

4. zaheer- im kind of annoyed that he’s this high. like he should not be that good of an airbender but here he is i guess. he gave almost everybodyyyyy a run for their money during his season and was kicking lots of ass. idk why he’s so good, i guess because he was spiritually connected to airbending before he became an airbender, but he definitely is amazing. mf can fly which no one else can do. also the way he killed the earth queen was awesomeeeee! wish more airbenders could be more unhinged. but yeah he can’t be higher bc he lacks a fuck ton of experience.

3. jinora- people argue she’s the best airbender in tlok and ok she mightttt beeeee because of her spiritual abilities, but i do think she lacks some combat skills and experience. with that being said though her spiritual abilities make her insanely op. im just saying like if u average out her impeccable spiritual skills with her just good combat skills, she gets number 3 imo. but she is obviously a master who earns her tattoos at such a young age so that’s why she’s here! also i think in her adulthood she will surpass her dad, but she aint there yet!

2. tenzin- gonna get his con out of the way first, he has little to no spiritual connection. which i dont think is a HUGE detriment but it is a detriment nonetheless and it’s why i also kinda flip flop between him and jinora and who i think is the better airbender. but today, for me, it’s tenzin. what he lacks in spiritual ability he makes for in strength, agility, technique, IQ, skill, utilization, and literally any other feat you could think of. remember when he was making zaheer look like an absolute amateur? that was awesome. yeah he is the best airbender that isn’t an avatar in the whole series.

1. aang- LOLLLL im not following my own rulessss butttttt idc. there arent many airbenders to choose from anyways and for a majority of the first book we really only know aang as an airbender anyway soooo im bending my rules lol. i dont feel any need to give a big fat response. he is not like any airbender we ever see throughout the entire show and it is not even close.

see, the funny thing is, actually going into his campaign the first session, i had NO idea what aescwynns personality/character would be like. i just winged it. i tend to do that. so technically these are all like, post-inspirations. he existed and then changed after his conception. except for mando. for obvious reasons of helmetry business. but aside from that, for his design i just saw the trait in the reborn race description about phantasmal limbs replacing your missing ones and whipped up the entire design based on that. so these are all character based mostly. explanations under read more

larry doompatrol: the biggest insp for his personality. like i think i unconsciously completely copied him, i just recently started slowly rewatching doom patrol after a couple years and my eyes boggled at the fact that every time this guy was on screen i was like "sighh hes so aescwynn core. they copied my stupid wizard and made him green". i have like 8 clips saved over only the first couple episodes just to look at and go god aescwynn is real they put him on tv. anyways. to put it simply, he inherited his pushover-y-ness and sopping wet personality.

Rewatched s7 recently too and Ive come to the conclusion that s7 is really so so bad because they cared more about reintroducing the characters by rehashing old plots instead of building interesting (non-racist) stories around those reintroductions. which side note is why its soo CRAZY that buck was so involved in those diaz family plots because that is one of the only New things from s7. Anyways because all that should hopefully be in the rearview I have a bit more hope in s8 and if s8 is bad at least the cast is hotter than ever. And beenado.

It's kind of insane how much being 'sick' takes over your entire life (or tries to). I actually have a meta I want to write on how House (the show) really touches on that with House and his chronic pain, and Thirteen and her Huntington's. Chronic illness has done many things to my life over the past six months, and interestingly one of them is it's given me a new lens to see this show through (specifically b/c it has main characters who are disabled/deal w a chronic illness). So this rewatch is really interesting. I know I'm gonna have soooo many big feelings when I get to season four. I already just had so many with the tritter arc and One Day, One Room (I have a bunch of scenes I screencapped from 3.10-3.14 that I'm gonna edit and post tomorrow hopefully! Screencapping is so fun, I love seeing the tiny details in the emotions.)

also in other news i know ive had a hard time keeping up with dms (tumblr AND discord) and asks recently. if we're friends or mutuals and i haven't reached out in a while, I so want to, I really miss my friends lots. I've just been swamped at work and with trying to get better. I officially filed for ada accomodations at my job and hopefully that will make my life at least a little easier. And I think my body braid is helping make a dent in my day to day pain which rocks.

So I've rewatched the first two episodes, and they're fine. I was more disappointed when I first watched it, but I think after the fiasco of the most recent episodes and also me just not expecting things to be like andor, I'm all right with the first two episodes. They're enjoyable! And when I say "not like Andor" I don't mean it in a shitty pretentious way.

I have some massive question marks though about how certain things were handled. If Qimir knows about Mae's plan to kill four jedi, and he also supplied the poison to kill one of them, why would they let him go? He's an accomplice. He knows more than Yord, Osha, Jecki, or Sol. Or anyone.

Knowing that Sol killed Mae's mother and that he lied HEAVILY to Osha seeing how he is now, with this "I can save her" and "ive made peace with what happened on Brendok" is just making me think this man is super evil deep down 😭 or at least wildly out of touch with how thing work. "Even after 16 years your thoughts still lay on your sister" yeah WHY WOULDNT THEY? you killed her mom in front of her one of your buddies killed her entire coven her culture is dead and home is in ruins because of YOUR issues and Mae presumably wake sup thinking her sister is DEAD.

I like the Jecki and Yord interactions a little more now with the knowledge that Jecki was a very highly skilled padawan, and Yord felt a certain type of way about it. It's silly teasing shit. Wish her prowess as a student her reminding sol of osha was brought up in the text of the show and not like. An interview. But oh well.

What are your thoughts on the metaphorical utilization of masks used by different characters throughout water 7?

so ive never actually thought about this before outside of the acknowledgement that it's a factor. the most obvious being robin wearing a mask in almost all her more ghosty scenes in water 7, and then taking it off and the entire thing escalates further though with more honesty.

the three main characters of water 7 (robin, usopp, and franky) all wear notable masks. robin when she's going to murder the mayor, franky when we have a perception of him when he's putting up a front, and usopp when he becomes sniperking.

i think the most interesting use of the masks is the less obvious immediately one, when franky and usopp are wearing masks. franky is wearing a mask of weird toxic hyper masculinity the kind that you'd see from a gangster in a movie. we learn later that this is a front he puts up to protect the franky familys reputation, (which is a parallel to robin putting on a mask to save the strawhats) but the way he changes his personality to create a more confident version of himself that shows no weakness parallels usopps use of the same mask with sniperking. you could also argue that usopp is at least under the perception that hes saving the strawhats from having to care about him when putting on the sniper king mask, (i actually think he directly states this? its been a year since i saw the beginning of enies lobby and itll be a 4-5 month journey before i get to it on my rewatch please pray for me) and that robin is becoming more confident when she puts on the mask as well. (although as ive said before robin is a wonderful intuitive competent woman whos never actually used any of her skills for anything good. /loving). i think with robin and usopp theres more of an inherent lie in their confidence when they put on the mask because robin, while she presents herself as confident is very much not. (although i think shes a lot like luffy in this aspect where i think she is genuinely confident but is insecure about things that are very deeply meaningful to her and that drives them more than you would think because they seem confident everywhere else) and usopp is usopp. franky is confident but where his confidence lies is way different. its less that hes lying about being confident but more lying about the type of confidence he has. franky is the type of guy whos confident in bawling and hugging you so tightly you feel like youre going to explode. he doesnt have confidence like gang bege. franky wouldnt tell you to kill a guy

I really fucking love sniper king. i think in general sniper king is the best use of usopps character, because it highlights that lying is a good thing when it comes to him and his personality. sniper king allowed usopp to be there for his friends when he had to lie to himself to keep holding onto their relationship. lying in a lot if senses symbolizes usopps inherent want to hope for better things for himself that he thinks won't happen and i relate to that. a fucking lot. when usopp lies i think it speaks to an inherent hope and openmindedness for whatever hes lying about to be true. all of this is what usopps use of the sniper king mask represents, along with his want to be a hero type guy. (oh to be an antihero in an anime that wants actively to be the type of guy the protagonist is)

there is a gender aspect to it. like i think the reason usopp and franky wear the same mask is because of both of their relationships towards their masculinity and to further the idea that franky is everything usopp wishes he was in a lot of ways. i was like "why do people read usopp as transgender" a bit ago but then i realized it was a stupid question because. like usopp as a character is inherently tied to masculinity in a very trans way. i read fanfiction about this recently so I think I'm a scholar on it but zoro is very transguy in the sense he is masculine inherently but still feels a disconnect between him and masculinity despite that. very post transition transguy. whereas you look at usopp and you see like a pre transition transguy who feels like he has to inherently grow into masculinity and a lot of that is tied to for him a better stage in his mental health. (and im glad he eventually gets that post ts).

anyways back to the masks on the other hand i think theyre a lot like the lines in scott pilgrim. like the weirdo lines ramona gets when she's insecure about her relationship with scott due to past experiences. yes the 3 people who put them on really do change their behavior when they put them on but it's because of the same thing (past experiences influencing them to the point where they arent changing their behaviour in the present)

ALL of them being influenced by trauma

and usopp is the only one who can spin this as a positive utilization of the mask as opposed to franky and robin because of what we talked about previously (usopps lies are his hopes)

and i think usopp gets his "in his own head so much because of past experiences hes refusing to see the truth in the present" pre getting his sniperking mask. but because of how usopp works as a character, he wasnt in a mask there because to him because of his neuroses he sees that as the truth of who he is. i also think the "in his own head so much because of past experiences hes refusing to see the truth in the present" still applies to him as sniper king but ends up meaning something differently. because as sniper king he is not acknowledging the reality of his need to take accountability for the shit he started but instead reverting back to lies hes previously told for the sake of reverting temporarily to normalcy with his friends. (which is a positive in the sense nico robin is going to die but negative in terms of interpersonal accountability)

this is all to say its really good that you cant see usopp/franky/robin when they put on the mask. they are emotionally unavailable to the people around them like they're not even considering other people as a factor which continues the idea of the masks as something that turns kind people alien and shuts them off from whats happening around them. thank you for watching my thoughts develop in real time, anon.

Helloooo defend in place/mayday anon :) sad to report I did not finish my s4+s5 watch/rewatch this weekend (tall task in hindsight plus anirudh tweets dropped right before I was about to start jinx of all episodes lol) BUT I did finish up to 5x10 which means I got to defend in place yayyy! General s5 thoughts 1. Watched ghost stories for the first time and its not nearly as bad as I thought it would be (although 618 and 710 didnt exist when this seemed to be consensus worst ep. So). I get how this ep might be hard to watch on a weekly basis but its pretty fine while binging and also features crucial henren/karen lore like … also noooo way chim really said he was going to bring buck near death, revive him with his paramedic skills and then kill him. Did the writers know. Lmao. 2. Taylor kelly stuff is not nearly as bad as I remember it from what I had watched. Its just painfully obvious her and buck should be friends and not even because their physical chemistry is outright bad just their dynamic feels super friend-ish. And they put all that development time into taylor when they should have developed bucktaylor instead, like how karen was developed after henren, for example. Bucktaylor ily scene still hits like nails on a chalkboard though. God forbid we have to live through something like that again 3. Ravi deadass in every episode. When will my sweet prince return in this capacity 4. Forgot about athena hitting harry :( definitely one of the things that I had issues with from before and was just as shocked now as before like why did that need to happen :(

Okay okay NOW defend in place thoughts !!!!!! I really really liked it, definitely a top 3 s5 episode for me probably (the other 2 I really love are 5x11 and 5x12). Michael/grant family proposal montage… genuinely top (fun) montage in the show. Up there with jinx and stuck/chris and poker date montages imo it was so cute. And while I really loved the ep the whole time I was like damn we were robbed of david content so bad 😭😭😭 he was so good in this ep and the s4 michael bobby ep like I just want more I cant believe we’ll never see him again. Okay and the ravi lore. Im going to be honest I spent years thinking the ravi cancer child thing was fanon/ravi begins spec LMAO like I saw gifs of that ravi hen scene a few weeks ago and was like damn… that lore is canon😭 but yay I wish the show would just once expand on his lore beyond surface level. And the defend in place call was so good although I will say it was giving greys anatomy massively though. Before I kinda wished the show would have done more with david/hen dr stuff but honestly after this Im glad it didnt bc I swear Ive watched this exact stuff happen in greys before lol. But yeah overall what a great send off for michael like so good. On my first watch years ago I was always kind of like okay michael is fun but he doesnt really get to contribute to the main part of the show much outside of being a dad and in that sense I always found his character a bit weak/neglible. But now on this watch Im like why didnt they give us more of this michael!! Copaganda aside, The athena team up when theyre searching for harry was so good and it was probably when I started thinking damn this cast is really missing rockmund in recent seasons. But at least they went this direction with the send off, if theres one thing you can trust 911 for its an eventual happy ending. (And also side note. Amidst the summer of bpreg and domesticverse some of the scene in this episode had me really in my feels. Yay)

hiiiiii bestie!!!!!!! thank you for updating me!!! i also did not watch 5a live (started the show the january between 5a & 5b) so i'm in agreement with you on the fact that it's really not a bad half season when binged!! i can understand the frustration of watching it live though. also ravi being in every episode omg......we used to have it all....(totally forgot about that athena and harry shit too wtf...)

OK YAY DEFEND IN PLACE!!! idk if you saw but i ALSO rewatched it this week (partially in your honor and partially to fulfill the summer of buddie self-care prompt). I have SUCH a soft spot for david, we really don't get to see much of him but i loved their meet cute, loved him in there goes the neighborhood and he's just!!! ugh!!! super hot and so sweet and such a good partner to michael.

lol I've never seen grey's anatomy but i can def see that...anyway yay i'm glad you enjoyed the episode. on my rewatch it really hit home for me how much the episode was grant-nash focused (like you said, with the fun little proposal montage) and it made me realize how much i really do miss them. Looking back, part of what really drew me into the show in s2 was all the family stuff--Buck and Maddie first & foremost (also Eddie & Chris), but also definitely the Grants and how they navigated adding Bobby to their family. It was such a good storyline and they really continued to showcase how special their family is through the next couple seasons!!!

my thoughts on white boy carl. i js wanted to say before hand i fucking hate the white boy carl era it was js plain fucking racist. the first time i watched shameless i wasnt a huge fan of white boy carl but i didnt hate it. ive recently rewatched it and can say i fucking hated it. it was annoying. the writers having carl say the nword was like a slap to the fucking face cause carl has always been one of my favs and it is js like…why??? Carl Gallagher is probably the least shitty person in his entire family besides Liam. but it can never be said that he's particularly intelligent. If you pay attention to the show you can see from people's reactions when he uses the Nword (not once but twice) that the show is self-aware. Carl along with the rest of the Gallaghers can be ignorant. him acting that way is directly in line with his character. The show knows he shouldn't be doing that, but because he was in juvie and looked after by the black kids. (carl has a tendency to change himself to the ppl around him and that rlly shows with white boy carl) he picked up whatever they let him and yes, you can bet they let him. (he didn't do his own cornrows). That doesn't make it okay in the real world but this is a show and that's just how writing works. The point of this is that Carl genuinely thinks he's black, he lacks that much self-awareness. he is that fucking dumb. i truly wish white boy carl never fucking happened. it baffles me when ppl say white boy carl was there fav era

summer vacation is the best thing to exist .. specifically if you are overworked, burnt out and stressed all the time, just like i am!! i love my school and i couldnt imagine anything that fits my interest better and contributes more to what ive always dreamt of doing in the future :3 BUT it takes up all of my time and leaves no space for hobbies and or side jobs.. i wish id earn my own money but its unrealistic considering i have the bussiest schoolyears eeevvaa in front of me.. at least ill be done in 2 years and ill have an amazing degree and many opportunities after hehe

ok enough school rant.

ive been obsessed with sandy liangs designs recently.. i wouldnt ever spend that much money on simple pieces like hers but i still cant take my mind off of some of her skirts and tops..... maybe one day!!! (even though i feel like id get bored of it eventually)

i miss london a lot.. both times ive went i was left with nothing but unforgettable memories and a veerrryy strong desire to move there.. (i wish i could do my internship there TT) we ate the bestestest food, bought the COOLEST items and saw amazing sights .. i love urban areas.. one day . one day!! i will live in a city im telling you now !!!!! i really enjoy travelling with my boyfriend and i hope we will continue going to cool places hehe

also i miss vienna .... i love being home and i like spending time here but i REALLY REALLY like strolling though viennese streets and discovering shops and places ive never seen... my boyfriend and i HAVE TO GO this summer.

oh oh and !! i started rewatching kimi ni todoke because i want to be all caught up and ready for the 3rd season hehe
