WIP Wednesday: Sebardagni 1920s AU: Snippet - Bard meets Ruby
I'm back on my business hoping 2025 is finally the year I get to fill your lives with tons of kuro rarepair AU content!
Here's another scene from my 1920s sebardagni AU that has been floating around in my mind for months and that I was finally able to write the other day.
It's the first of two scenes in which Bard meets Sebastian, aka "Ruby," for the first time, and he's immediately smitten--even after he realizes "Ruby" is a man.
About this AU:
Sebardagni, multichapter, 1920s AU, Human Sebastian, Disabled Sebastian
Set in the US during the 1920s when Prohibition of alcohol was at its peak. Sebastian has a mysterious past that becomes central to the story as it unfolds, but when it begins works out of his apartment as a music tutor and at night performs at Undertaker's speakeasy. That's where he meets Bard, who was left aimless after the end of WWI, and now works as a bouncer for Undertaker in his club. Agni (who isn't in this snippet) is a doctor and who was living with Sebastian when Bard and he met.
*the image above is a preview of a comic by @luci-on-the-moon that will be revealed later
Enjoy, and if this is an AU you're interested in, let me know!
~#~
A hush fell over the entire club as all attention fixed on the piano, which played a simple, tinkling melody that seemed to float through the air like a mist. In the center of it all, spotlight illuminating, was Ruby, dress and jewels the color of her namesake glittering in the light. She was even more beautiful than Bard had imagined she’d be based on everything he’d heard. Her long, luxurious black hair draped over her shoulders, not chopped short like was the fashion, and Bard wondered if, despite the fact she was singing in an underground club run by a shady character like Undertaker, she might be a traditional, classy girl. Her lips were full and lashes long, with skin like fresh cream that Bard longed to touch. But then the piano swelled and she began to sing, and suddenly the entire world around Bard faded away into the soulful sound that cradled him like a warm embrace after years at war. “What’ll I do? When you are far away and I am blue.“ Bard’s mouth went dry as he listened, ash falling from his cigarette as he remained enraptured, as if Ruby were a siren mesmerizing him with her song. The melody was simple, letting the richness of her singing shine through. Bard could feel the emotion she was pouring into every word as she sang sadly of the lover she would never see again. The music crescendoed as Ruby leaned back on the piano, her long legs peaking from the slit in her unfashionably long dress. Though it fit her like God himself had made it for her, so Bard wasn’t about to complain. She wasn’t curvy, but she had a magnetism that made her beauty radiate. “What’ll I do with just a photograph—” She dropped her gaze, those captivating long lashes brushing her cheeks, and when she lifted it again, Bard could have sworn she was looking straight at him. “—to tell my troubles to?” Ruby smiled, amused, but only for a fleeting moment as she continued the song, heartbreak hovering in every note, “When I’m alone, with all the dreams of you that won’t come true. . .” Ruby paused, and so did the music, to let the audience hang on every single second, waiting for her to finish. She stared down at her legs, her voice shifting so that Bard would have sworn she were on the brink of tears. “What’ll I do?” The final chord played and the speakeasy erupted into whistling and clapping, most of the crowd jumping to their feet. But all Bard’s attention was still fixed on Ruby, her red dress glittering as she shifted, blowing kisses to the crowd and winking occasionally before the spotlight slid to the left and the MC began introducing the next performance. As much as he wanted to keep his gaze fixed on her until the last moment, when she disappeared backstage, a fight broke out to Bard’s right. which meant he had a job to do. But after his shift ended, he was gonna pay Ruby a visit.

Miss Fisher Snippets (243)
Poor Mary went into labor in Phryne’s parlor after escaping the convent. Thank goodness that Aunt Prudence was there and immediately took charge. Mary called her a “rich old battleaxe” earlier – aggressive, overbearing, and forceful. It might have been a derogatory remark, but she couldn’t have asked for a better person by her side at that moment. Who else other than Aunt P would reassure her that God would be answerable to her if he were to let the nuns take the baby away?
********************
p.s. Happy birthday to Miss Miriam Margolyes (May 18). The outspoken and brutally honest Miss Miriam is never shy about expressing her opinions, just like Aunt P. Those who have read Miss Kerry Greenwood’s Phryne Fisher books knew that Aunt Prudence was an invented character for the TV series. I often wonder if Miss Miriam was casted because of her persona, or the character was created using her as a prototype. In any case, we love them both dearly for being true to themselves.

Codex Week 2025 - Day 2: Bonded Pair
Another @codex-week snippet, because I’m still a little way off finishing the whole piece, eheh (I don’t even have a title for it yet!)… Anyway - this is technically a continuation of the first prompt but from the second chapter. Slight vampire AU, anyone…?
“You -” Rex’s mind goes into overdrive. “We’re -”
“It doesn’t make you the same as me,” Cody says, sure and certain and, gods, Rex can feel the confidence in his words - how?
“I can feel you,” he says instead, eyes wide.
Cody nods. “And I can feel you. You’re okay, there’s no need to panic. Nothing about you has changed.”
“Hasn’t it?” Rex shoots back. It makes sense now, why he’s felt so in-tune with Cody since waking up, reading him with such clarity it was as if he was projecting his thoughts and feelings. Trying to rein in his thoughts, Rex closes his eyes (and stars above, he can still sense Cody in front of him!), picking out the most immediate question in the array flying around his mind; “You said I’m not like you?”
“You’re not like me,” Cody confirms.
“But my injury -”
“Healed fast because of my blood.”
At that, Rex opens his eyes to narrow a glare at him, silently demanding further explanation, and Cody acquiesces - which Rex knows, because he felt it. Through their… bond. Somehow.
“You weren’t getting better,” Cody explains, sorrowful and with a lingering memory of fear. “I knew moving you wasn’t going to help matters, but we needed to do just that or else the retrieval team would find us, and you wouldn’t -” he swallows. “I’d never see you again.”
Rex frowns, his hand drifting to the thin scar under his shirt. “It was that bad?”
Exhaling, Cody nods. “Giving you my blood was the only way I could think to get you healed in time,” he continues. “The one drawback was that it meant I had to take yours in return. In any other circumstance, I wouldn’t have thought of doing it without your consent, but between that and losing you -”
As he chokes off the last word, Rex feels it again, stronger this time: the fear, and the guilt. An impression plays in his mind again, of Cody leaning over him, his lips to Rex’s neck, desperation driving his instincts, the taste of blood on his tongue, the rich, heady, tainted taste of it, how good it would be without the sickness, his restraint bowing under the sheer desire to consume more -
With a gasp, Rex comes back to himself, immediately locking on to Cody’s worried expression. Without breaking eye contact, Rex lifts a hand up to the pulse point at his neck, fingertips pressing into the muscle until he feels a slight change in the texture of his skin.
Two very small puncture scars.
#codexweek2025#Cody/Rec#Codex#Commander Cody#Captain Rex#bonded pair#hoping these snippets suffice until I can properly edit everything together#the balance between enticing people in and not revealing too much ha#yes I’m tying everything together with vague vampirism lol

Hi, came across your "the type of girl to disappear" tag, and really liked the writing. So, uh. Is this a book I can ask my library to get, or am I misunderstanding something? Don't mean to be rude, am just dumb.
OMG, THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY that you like what you've seen!
Thank you SO MUCH for saying that you like the snippets I've shared, anon <333
You're not dumb, I don't always explain! I am an aspiring writer, working on getting self-published. I have 3 completed projects & am working with artists in my life (hi Grainne, if you see this!) to get cover art. I also have a lot of editing to do.
I plan on publishing some of my works before the end of 2025 although I'm not quite ready to share any dates for 100% positive YET.
The Type of Girl to Disappear is my current WIP. It isn't completed yet & is in the very early stages but it WILL eventually be available for purchase on Amazon within the next year or so.
The premise is basically that I'm dissecting & subverting the "dead girl" trope through a story. Think Laura Palmer to Jackie Taylor as the archetype & then throw that out because we're talking about the type of girl who really is likely to disappear & be forgotten & it's not a beautiful blonde rich girl.
We are getting into how race & addiction & sexism & so many other factors tie into how disappearances & violent deaths are treated by authorities & the media & individuals & society at large. We're getting into "I'm just a girl" feminism & the subtle racism & dehumanization of the tradwife culture. And we're doing all of this in the form of a small town mystery set in Lousiana in the deep south. I am EXTREMELY excited about this project & these characters that have become so real to me. Once I get my shit together, I swear y'all are in for a treat.
Anyway, thank you for your interest, anon. It truly makes me so so happy to know that even the brief snippets I've shared of this project caught your attention <3
I swear I will have more concrete news to share about my original work publication plans sooner than later y'all <3 Things are in motion, I promise <3

In my upcoming project The Huntress and the Beast, Prim was never reaped and Peeta became the sole victor of the 74th Games, earning the nickname "the Beast." Ostracized by society after a horrifying incident at the end of the war solidified his nickname, Peeta retreats to live on the mountainside alone. Years later, Katniss takes a position to live with Peeta and eat dinner with him each night for one year, partly to make up for the bread that saved her family and partly to escape Gale's marriage proposal. Each chapter is one month of this year, as Everlark grow together and build a home.
Leading up to the release of the first chapter, I'm posting a snippet each Wednesday, one for each month of the year. Today's snippet is from Chapter Nine: September. The first chapter will be released on January 1, 2025. See other released snippets here.
Read the snippet below:
"And what was troubling you just now?" I raise an eyebrow, unsure if Gale is coming to me as my old friend or an ex-boyfriend. In this place we spent so many hours as hunting partners and with him looking so curiously at me, it almost feels like it did before the war, before he ever kissed me. "That I might have made myself too rich," I say. Gale gives a short laugh. "Poor you." "I never asked for sympathy," I snap. "Only when you don't need to fight to survive anymore, what do you do with your time?" Peeta's cabin can be seen from here, if you turn your head south. Smoke curls from his chimney, a sign that he's probably baking right now. Peeta had found a way to live following his banishment and the war. I'm still not sure how. Gale interrupts my thoughts as he says sadly, "You find someone to share it with."
The Huntress and the Beast will release its first chapter on January 1, 2025.

I am seeing the words Hocky Omegaverse and I want to know more immediately (especially because you are so knowledgable in hockey I have faith)
X @speciallivery
omg the chalex hockey omegaverse one is fun for Me. because i get to make alex albon a canuck. now in this au charles gets surprise-traded from the habs (crazy because charles in any hockey universe would be Thee habs franchise player. like. this would be like uh. if charles had signed with williams for 2025 instead of staying with ferrari, except imagine ferrari doing slightly worse in the 2025 season and williams being a roaring dumpster fire)
also. this is a No Omegas In The NHL au. or well. it is until charles goes into emergency heat after a game. and turns out the habs were keeping this a secret. and alex isnt even the canucks captain! but he does have the a (thats alternate captain). and he and charles played junior hockey together and they have like this rich childhood bond. so. charles shows up at his hotel room and alex goes into a panic but then charles is like chill. i just need to get fucked. you can do that right. and alex (who is ofc a beta in this au #betarights) rises to the occasion. and thats basically the whole fic plot. also i put george russell on the minnesota wild because i think he would look stunning in their home jerseys
i was going to put a snippet but i realised i do actually have to rewrite large portions of this fic (even though the wip is sooo tiny. baby size) so heres the snippet but it may look different if this fic ever makes it to ao3
But Alex had looked at him, wondering if George could see the dark circles under his eyes, and said, “Seb’s still out, and Carlos has the flu, I don’t know —”
“Yeah,” George had said quickly, only wilting a little. “Of course, I get it.”
Alex felt bad, but he had to put the team first, and he really didn’t want to go out with George, not after a home loss. What he wanted to do was go home and curl up in bed with the cats and maybe watch some really shitty television, and eat pizza.
But he was the guy that had to go around the dressing room and make sure everyone was doing all right, and joke with Nicky about maybe getting something to deal with his horrendous alpha musk, and make sure Sarge wasn’t beating himself up too bad.
#ask game#wild!george is so important to me now. the green ...#also canuck alex is canon sorry i dont make the rules. he was born for our beautiful disaster

Miss Fisher Snippets (245)
The placement agency was not wrong about Miss Fisher being a spinster. In the 1920s, an unmarried woman in her mid-20s would be considered a spinster. However, if they assumed – and informed – Mr. Butler that the said spinster was “a respectable lady with a strict routine who appreciates the quiet life”, it couldn’t be farther from the reality. I also wondered why Mr. Butler thought that Miss Fisher was related to the king. Did the agency embellish her background to make the placement more enticing, or it was a common assumption that only those who were related to the king, however distant it might be, could inherit a title? Anyway, I loved it that Bert and Cec didn’t clear things up for him right there and then as they were waiting to see how he would handle the discovery. The two rascals certainly got a good chuckle when Mr. B finally met his new employer and said to them sarcastically “Appreciate the warning”, but they must also be quite impressed with the unflappable butler.
********************
p.s. The term “spinster” historically referred to a woman who spun thread or yarn but later evolved to describe single women, often with negative connotations that they were undesirable. While “toff” literally meant a rich or upper-class person with an aristocratic background, it could imply that they exuded an air of superiority. Of course, neither image fit Miss Fisher, who was attractive, vibrant, and sensual yet relatable and charitable.

Deconstructing Daphne Greengrass
Ice Queen. Borderline sociopath.
Rich girl with a a heart of gold.
Well, in the last 20 years or so there have been many, many Daphne Greengrasses in fanfic.
And I'd just like to say, my name is An Orc, and I'm here to burn it all down. And yes, I'm aware that I've written tropey Daphne Greengrass fics.
But also, I've written, and continue to write fics where Daphne isn't quite as much of a paint-by-numbers love interest.
Though I've got a fic that deconstructs that too in the works, because of course I do. (Healer Harry and the annoying impatient. Maybe coming late 2025)
Before I dive into the details, I'll lay out some basic ground rules. Don't worry, I'll explain where this goeth eventually. Oh, and we're going to use snippets from Cursed Child, because nothing in life is totally worthless. Not even bad fanfic. (Dr Hadley on Youtube has a great vlog about Daphne, and has written Daphne into fanfic, so if you wanted background, go watch that. He's also quite funny.)
Daphne's Blonde.
Daphne's got blue eyes.
Daphne's a girl.
Daphne isn't a genderbent Draco Malfoy. There's no point in doing that.
Has a little sister called Astoria.
There's a blood malediction that's going to kill Astoria.
Daphne has at least a passing resemblance to 'Anonymous Slytherin girl extra' in the film "Order of the Phoenix"' (Who isn't that anonymous, and apparently at least at some point found the whole Daphne Greengrass phenomenon all rather funny.)
The ship is called Haphne, and it's Harry Potter and Daphne Greengrass.
Daphne Greengrass canonically has an OWL Practical just before Hermione Granger in Order of the Phoenix, the book. She never appears before or after in canon.
Daphne was in Slytherin house and is a pureblood. (That's in the Hogwarts 40, ephemera from JKR that she used in planning. Shame she didn't do some remedial maths beforehand too.)
Epilogue? What Epilogue. EWE is the fan movement that simply rejects JKR's epilogue as well, trash. I'm signed up unless I'm not.
Now, those are the things I regard as 'immutable' parts of a given OC called Daphne Greengrass. And I'm a book reader, who happened to see the films first, so I don't much care what mess various directors made of the setting.
So, first off, I'll lampshade #1 by saying that Daphne is blonde, for some value of bleach. (I have an old female friend who there's only one person alive that remembers her actual natural hair colour, and well, the extra wasn't a natural blonde either, so there you go.) And while that sounds silly, it gives Daphne some... dare we say, character. Why does Daphne change her hair colour? (It's mousy brown, honestly, she just wanted not to look less plain.)
Blue eyes at #2, because she has to have eyes, and they need a colour. Blue is, if you missed it, a colour. (And there's a sodding U in it. Get over it, Americans.) And the "Book of Names" that researched all the names in the Hogwarts original 40 list from JKR, put the Greengrass surname in Norfolk, and they're probably Saxons. So Daphne has blue eyes. And may be from Norfolk.
It would be weird for a boy to be called Daphne, so that explains #3.
Number four, well, the point of a female OC is to ship Harry with her. Seriously. JKR can't write romantic relationships at all convincingly, so Harry ended up with a lump of wood in a red wig. (And that's not picking on Bonnie Wright -- she can act, and has done so since quite well. Cloves et al are hacks, which doesn't help.) Having a Slytherin, and a Pureblood girl means she's literally from the other side of the tracks. (In keeping with the tiny tatters of CC we can regard as 'not shit', Greengrasses are far more politically moderate than Malfoys.) We never really got to see how the Slytherin Purebloods lived, and this lets us go wild.
Badly written Regency romances are a fandom trope. I'm no less guilty, but that's just, like, an opinion.
There's a legend that JKR intended the Non Nazi Slytherin Students to come back from Hogsmeade with Horace Slughorn, when he leads the people of Hogsmdade as reinforcements in the battle of Hogwarts. As a writer, the setup is all there in the text, but, alas, the last three books (at least) have shoddy editing due to the massive amounts of gold they were making. So she left it out, and that leaves the implication that they're all Nazis. Literally 'Evil House.' Which is far too simplistic a view, and my god you did a personality test on eleven year olds, and now a quarter are Death Eaters. To coin a phrase, Bad Rowling, No. Being ambitious isn't evil. (And having met, over the course of many years, some quite evil people who were not ambitious, there's Death Eaters in Hufflepuff. Sooo many Death Eaters in Hufflepuff.) So Rowling left that out. I'm actually okay with the idea that the Slytherins that weren't evil hid in their dorms and common room during the Battle of Hogwarts. They'd had rubbish Defence Against the Dark Arts teachers for at least five years out of the last seven, so most of even the Seventh years were sitting ducks; just like Voldemort intended. That DADA curse is 'preparation of the battle-space,' as was making sure Snape was a bastard to Potions students. Less Aurors, less Healers. A nation weak, ready to be taken over.
Number five, having Daphne have a sister, family etc, well, there are great 'Daphne Greengrass is a penniless orphan' fics, but I'm trying to parody what's there, so she'd better have a family. And that lets Harry meet a magical family that aren't the Weasleys. That would make two families he's met. In total. (And I can lampshade the ever-loving putty out of Harry having a tiny circle of friends.)
Number six, the blood malediction, possibly a Greengrass family curse, is free conflict, so what's not to love. Also, it means there's a real risk Daphne herself may be at risk of snuffing it. And a mystery for Harry to solve. If only to discover why that Greengrass girl's trying to break into the restricted section.
(Oh, and I just had a sodding plot bunny.)
Number seven, there's a running theme in fan wish-fulfillment that Daphne Greengrass must be gorgeous. The only thing is, that surely, we'd see that mentioned in the books. Ginny Weasley is gorgeous, Cho Chang is gorgeous. And Harry's possibly a tiny bit superficial. I generally regard this is just cringeful, and I love trying to squeeze sense from the world-building. If a girl was really pretty, she'd be mentioned in the book, right? (Ignoring that JKR didn't make enough characters for the roll size she wanted for Hogwarts etc etc.) In a way, (it's called parodic deconstruction, I think?) so Daphne must either be... good looking but not stand out, or she had a glow-up after school. She's also not atrociously ugly -- she's unremarkable. I parody this in one of my worse stories with Daphne literally having a magical glow-up, courtesy of her mum. A middle ground is that like the reference face from the films, she's pretty, but horsey from some angles. Fans who've met said person in ... person say actually she is gorgeous, so there's that. That further lends weight to the 'otherwise unremarkable girl' angle, where she might age into her looks, but at Hogwarts, is... shy. (Oh god, terrible Hughes films flashbacks.)
Number eight, shipping. I ship so hard I have my own harbor. In real life, actually yes. So I'm quite prepared to have fics where Daphne shock, Horror, isn't with Harry. (I've got one (not quite released yet) where he... brace yourselves... becomes friends with her post-war. And that's all. A friend. (I'll do the screwing it up in a sequel, because I am an orc. Torturing people is our thing.)
Or... is gay. Because that's a thing, folks. Some people are. It just happens. Not going to try and take on all that crap, but hey, have a gay Daphne story. She stays gay, because that's how people tend to work.
Number nine: There's a fixed point in time in canon where Daphne Greengrass exists, and did her OWL Charms Practical at the same time as Hermione. That leaves the question open if she was even at Hogwarts in Harry's sixth year. Given the reappearance of a dark lord, maybe they fled. Lots of possibilities. Also, on the flip side, sixth year is the one year Harry could really meet Daphne at Hogwarts and change canon a little but not a lot. (Or maybe with an alternative point of view in a planning session, things could go very differently indeed.) People have done 'She's actually working for Voldemort, willingly or otherwise' to death, so I've left it alone. Harry might not be a genius at telling if someones' trustworthy, but Crookshanks, Hermione's cat, is half-Kneazle and magically gifted in this regard. (See Prisoner of Azkaban.)
There's no point arguing a single point in time, unless someone wanted her to be imaginary, and that's pretty limited as a basis for a story.
Number ten: If you make her not a Pureblood in Slytherin, make her someone else. She's an OC with a name, respect the three things we already know about her. (And I'm quite prepared to skewer any Siberian Pricness, Ice Princess etc tropes at this point.)
Number Eleven: No epilogue.
Well, unless she was over and done with Harry before he married Ginny and had 2.4 children. I've played around in this non-plot non point a bit, including skewering Cursed Child repeatedly. It's quite hard to have Harry, who only wanted a family, be an absent father and still be in character. Cursed child never managed it, but I've had a couple of goes so far.
Or maybe AFTER cursed child starts. And suddenly I'm writing 40-year old Harry Potter getting divorced, meeting someone from school... there's a rich vein to mine here. And yes, I've got a satire of a Hallmark Christmas romance with Harry and Daphne post-Harry's divorce, of course I do. "Horrible Romantic Christmas" on AO3.
Now for some freeform ranting.
One of the valuable things, as a writer about Daphne is that she can be unfamiliar with muggle Britain, and Harry's a native. So you can do the wonders of... Tesco. Basically, Harry's discovery of the magical world, upside down, and backwards. Or to be posh, holding a mirror up to contemporary Britain. See that sounds all literary, and this is just fanfic.
But like any idea, I can look at the back side, and Harry could, alternatively make a complete berk of himself, trying to show someone that already kind-of-knows muggle culture and technology things, and instead of childlike wonder she can say "I had one when I was eight, Potter. I wasn't born yesterday."
And there's even room to explore the idea that maybe she doesn't have a heart of gold.
There are some fantastic fics where she's the bad guy.I haven't written any of them. Personally, I'd rather not glorify bad people. But she can easily be the 'Slytherins will take any means to achieve their ends' character. And while I can't see the attraction about writing about psychopaths, just having someone prepared to bend the rules in the service of her own life is a nice contrast to the background characters 'who do nothing'. She could even, shock, horror, be a criminal, inasmuch as she did whatever to get through the war. (And I've got a neat fic stuck in plot development hell where she's a fraudster... but not a death eater. And Harry is a post-war Auror, so he gets to play detective and play the hypocrisy card. It may be a noir detective novel in wizards robes.)
Because so many writers have tried to make Daphne very special and extra, I've gone and written 'A very ordinary girl' where Harry slowly falls in love with someone who's... an ordinary witch at Hogwarts. While that's a short story, I feel disinclined to write more in that setting, because by the end, all Daphne and Harry want in some privacy, post-war. So they get to have it, in a way, as long as I don't write another chapter of it.
And one of the interesting things is that the very idea of 'A very ordinary witch' from an ordinary magical family isn't something that appears in the books. So ah, that's really interesting, even if it requires tricky niche world-building to fit inside Rowlings quick and dirty worldbuilding.
But, given all that, could Daphne have... interests?
She could be a music dork. They don't mix with non music dorks at school much, and they can be quite unusual sorts ... once you get to know them, though they might be quiet as mice outside of doing music. And we know there's a choir. Kinda.
Gobstones is a thing, but Harry doesn't play, nor do any of his friends. Therefore, book canon Daphne Greengrass might be eighth seed in the gobstones club, and Harry would never know.
People then jump onto 'she's a genius, she's Hermione's academic rival!' But that's kinda silly. And would have had Hermione grizzling about her at some point, surely?
Hogwarts doesn't have printed class rankings on the walls at any point, so Hermione, for all we know, may not actually be ... shock horror, the brightest witch at school. She studies hard, but in seven years, hadn't invented a single spell. Snape invented several by the time he was in sixth year. (Halfblood prince, his potions journal has his own spells in it.) I'm not saying Daphne is either. But she doesn't answer questions in class like Hermione, though Hermione is suspiciously quiet about all those electives she takes and the boys don't. (Maybe Daphne's an arithmancy nerd? Could be. And what would that actually mean, in practical terms?)
It's possible, nay likely that students with special interests might do better in the classes they are interested in, but they may not necessarily be the best in the school... if they are interested in something related to the class, but not in studying hard to get good exam marks. That's just how learning works.
On the other hand, Hermione Granger doesn't attend Hogwarts for the 97-98 academic year. (maybe she goes back later.) It's possible that every other student, apart from being bullied and possibly tortured by the Carrows, also had a chance to get some house points for a change without Granger hogging all the questions in class. If Daphne attended Hogwarts after 1996, she might have actually got to NEWT level in her classes. So it's possible a post-war Daphne is better at magic than say, Hermione, at least excluding Hermione's specific skills, like Polyjuice making.
Weird worldbuilding fact. In sixth year, in 'Halfblood Prince' there are 'two other Slytherins' in Potions with Harry that aren't Malfoy or Nott. And they are never named, nor are they mentioned again. One of the ''one simple trick's" of writing is to provide the bare minimum and have the readers fill in the rest. It's... possible one is Daphne.
The curly haired elephant in the room.
Tracey Davis is possibly Daphne's best friend. She certainly is in many fics. She is... definitely in the same dorm in Slytherin with Daphne. I've settled on the idea they're neighbors out of school. It's the simplest possible solution of Daphne needing a bestie.
Which can't be Pansy, or we'd notice Daphne more.
And cant' be Millicent, because Daphne is at best a hanger-on in Pansy's gang. And... we'd notice Daphne more.
What's Tracey like? Who can say. She's a halfblood in Slytherin (according to the list.) Poached this pic from Living Dangerously, and why not have Tracy wear a brown hat?

Technical SEO in 2025: Why It's a Game-Changer for Website Performance
In 2025, SEO success isn't just about keywords or content—it’s about performance, structure, and speed. With Google's algorithms focusing more on user experience, technical SEO is no longer a backend afterthought—it’s the backbone of your digital visibility.
Today, even the best-written content can get buried if your website loads slowly, has crawl issues, or isn't optimized for mobile. That's why brands looking to grow organically are prioritizing technical SEO like never before.
In this blog, we’ll break down what technical SEO means today, its key components, and how working with the Best Search Engine Optimization companies in delhi can make your website not just rank—but outperform.
🧠 What Is Technical SEO?
Technical SEO refers to optimizing your website’s infrastructure so that search engines can crawl, index, and rank your content effectively. It includes:
Website speed and Core Web Vitals
Mobile-friendliness
Secure connections (HTTPS)
XML sitemaps and robots.txt files
Structured data and schema markup
Fixing crawl errors and broken links
Think of technical SEO as the foundation of your SEO house. Without it, no matter how beautiful the exterior (content), it won’t stand strong in search results.
This is why businesses today consult only the Best Search Engine Optimization companies in delhi to ensure their technical setup meets modern standards.
Why Technical SEO Matters in 2025
Here’s why technical SEO is now non-negotiable:
Google's Page Experience update prioritizes fast, mobile-optimized, and secure sites
Search engine bots are stricter about crawlability and structure
Rich results and snippets depend on clean structured data
AI-powered search is more sensitive to website errors and architecture
Poor technical SEO directly impacts your ranking—even with good content
So, if your site is laggy, messy, or confusing to bots, it won’t matter how good your blogs or ads are—you’ll be invisible.
That's where the Best Search Engine Optimization companies in delhi come in—with the tools and expertise to audit and fix your backend for maximum SEO health.
🔧 Top Components of Technical SEO in 2025
Let’s explore the technical pillars of SEO that truly make a difference today:
✅ 1. Core Web Vitals
These Google metrics measure real user experience:
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): Measures loading performance
First Input Delay (FID): Measures interactivity
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): Measures visual stability
A poor score in any of these can tank your rankings. The Best Search Engine Optimization companies in delhi regularly monitor and improve these for clients using tools like PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, and GTmetrix.
✅ 2. Mobile-First Optimization
Since over 75% of traffic in India is mobile, your site must:
Be fully responsive
Have mobile-friendly menus and CTAs
Load quickly on 4G/5G networks
Avoid intrusive interstitials/popups
Mobile-first indexing means Google primarily evaluates the mobile version of your site—not desktop.
✅ 3. Clean URL Structure and Site Architecture
A good structure helps both users and bots navigate your site:
Use clean, keyword-rich URLs
Avoid duplicate content
Maintain a clear content hierarchy
Internally link pages for better crawl depth
Submit updated XML sitemaps
The Best Search Engine Optimization companies in delhi use automated tools and manual audits to ensure that websites are well-structured and easy to navigate.
✅ 4. Schema Markup and Structured Data
Want to appear in rich snippets, answer boxes, and “People Also Ask”?
Add schema to your:
FAQs
Products
Events
Reviews
Local business info
Structured data helps Google understand your content contextually—and increases click-through rates. It’s a powerful way to gain visibility without paying for ads.
✅ 5. HTTPS and Security Protocols
Google has made it clear: secure websites rank better.
Use HTTPS with a valid SSL certificate
Ensure all internal links redirect to HTTPS versions
Fix mixed content issues (HTTP assets on HTTPS pages)
A secure site isn’t just for SEO—it’s for user trust, especially in industries like e-commerce, finance, and health.
🧩 Real-World Case Study: Technical SEO in Action
A high-traffic lifestyle blog in Delhi was seeing declining rankings despite publishing regularly. The content was good—but the website was technically broken.
They partnered with one of the Best Search Engine Optimization companies in delhi to conduct a technical audit.
Key fixes included:
Compressing oversized images
Cleaning up unused JavaScript
Fixing hundreds of 404 errors
Optimizing CLS and LCP
Implementing schema for blog categories
Result after 3 months:
Page speed score jumped from 49 to 91
Indexed pages increased by 22%
Bounce rate dropped by 34%
70+ keywords returned to Page 1
🧠 Tools for Technical SEO (and Why Expertise Matters)
Here are tools often used by agencies to analyze and improve technical SEO:
Google Search Console
Screaming Frog SEO Spider
Ahrefs Site Audit
SEMrush Site Health
PageSpeed Insights
GTmetrix
Web.dev
But tools alone don’t fix problems. You need interpretation, prioritization, and execution—something the Best Search Engine Optimization companies in delhi offer through their experienced teams.
🔁 Technical SEO Maintenance: Why It’s Ongoing
Technical SEO isn’t a “one and done” task. Websites change, plugins break, pages slow down, and Google updates its algorithm frequently.
That’s why the best agencies offer monthly technical audits, ensuring:
All redirects and canonical tags are in place
Broken links are fixed
Crawl errors are resolved
New opportunities (schema, compression, etc.) are implemented
If your site hasn’t had a technical check in the last 6 months, it’s time to consult the Best Search Engine Optimization companies in delhi.
Final Thoughts
In 2025, technical SEO is make-or-break. It ensures that all your content, ads, and digital assets are seen, understood, and ranked by Google.
No matter how creative your campaigns are, they’ll fall flat if your technical foundation is shaky.
That’s why investing in a detailed audit, expert diagnosis, and clean implementation with the Best Search Engine Optimization companies in delhi is one of the smartest decisions you can make for long-term organic growth.

Quick & Easy On Page SEO Tips to Improve Website Visibility
Search engines have evolved dramatically, but on-page SEO remains essential for driving organic visibility. While backlinks and domain authority still play a role, the easiest way to start ranking higher is by improving what’s directly on your web pages. In 2025, Google and other engines prioritize pages that offer value, clarity, and seamless performance.
On page SEO tips is about controlling the things you can: content quality, meta tags, structure, internal linking, and mobile responsiveness. These elements signal to search engines not only what your page is about, but also how user-friendly and trustworthy it is. The good news? Many improvements are quick, simple, and totally free—making them perfect for website owners at any level.
Optimize Title Tags and Meta Descriptions First
One of the fastest ways to improve your website’s visibility is by updating your title tags and meta descriptions. These elements show up in search results and act as your first impression. Your title tag should include your main keyword, stay under 60 characters, and appeal directly to search intent.
Meta descriptions, while not a direct ranking factor, affect click-through rates—so keep them concise, benefit-driven, and under 160 characters. Use power words like “discover,” “free,” or “proven” to boost interest. A well-written title and description can increase clicks even if you’re not ranking #1, giving your content more traffic without needing complex SEO tactics.
Improve Your Header Structure (H1, H2, H3)
Headers help organize your content for readers and search engines alike. Every page should have a single H1 tag that clearly states the topic—usually the same as your page title. Then use H2s for main sections and H3s for sub-points. This hierarchy improves readability and SEO simultaneously.
Using headers wisely lets search engines understand your page's layout and boosts your chances of being featured in rich snippets or People Also Ask results. For readers, a clear header structure means they can quickly scan and find what they need. Bonus tip: include keywords or synonyms in your headers where relevant—but keep it natural and helpful.
Use Internal Links to Keep Visitors Engaged
Internal linking is one of the simplest and most effective on-page SEO tips. It helps search engines crawl your site more effectively while keeping users engaged longer. By linking to related blog posts, service pages, or products, you create a connected content network that supports SEO and usability.
Use keyword-rich anchor text when linking between pages, and make sure each page has a few strategic links. For example, a blog post about “local SEO tips” could link to a “Google Business Profile Guide.” These internal paths tell Google what each page is about and help distribute authority evenly across your site—leading to better rankings overall.
Add Alt Text to Images for Better Search Visibility
Images are vital for engagement, but they also offer untapped SEO potential. Every image on your site should include alt text—a short, descriptive phrase that tells search engines what the image is about. This improves accessibility and makes your images eligible to appear in Google Images, an often-overlooked traffic source.
When writing alt text, be accurate and keyword-aware, but avoid keyword stuffing. For example, instead of writing “image1,” use “screenshot of SEO audit tool results.” If you have image-heavy pages like portfolios or product listings, optimized images can help you capture additional traffic and boost page relevance without changing any core content.
Improve Page Speed and Mobile Friendliness
Speed and mobile usability are now ranking factors, and users expect fast, smooth experiences. Start by compressing your images with tools like Tiny PNG or Short Pixel. Then, remove unnecessary plugins or scripts, and consider enabling browser caching to reduce load times. Use Google’s Page Speed Insights to identify and fix slow elements.
With the majority of traffic coming from mobile, your site must be fully responsive. Test your pages on various devices to ensure they load quickly and display correctly. Use clear fonts, tap-friendly buttons, and minimal pop-ups. A mobile-optimized, fast-loading website doesn’t just improve SEO—it reduces bounce rates and increases conversion potential.
Refresh Old Content with Updated SEO Elements
If you already have content on your site, don’t ignore it—update it. Refreshing old posts with current data, improved headers, better internal links, and updated keywords can give them a new SEO life. Google loves fresh, relevant content, especially when it's based on established pages with some authority.
Go back and revise blog posts or landing pages that aren’t ranking well. Add new sections, update stats, refine keywords, and make sure your on-page SEO elements (title, meta, headers, links, images) are up to standard. This not only boosts your SEO but also helps you get more value out of the content you already created.
Conclusion: Small SEO Tweaks, Big Visibility Wins
You don’t need to be an SEO expert or hire an agency to improve your site’s performance. Many of the most impactful changes are small, fast, and cost nothing. Optimizing titles, headers, images, and internal links can drastically improve how your site ranks and how users experience it.

In 2025, search engines reward relevance, clarity, and user satisfaction. By implementing these quick on-page SEO tips, you make it easier for both Google and real people to find and enjoy your content. Whether you're a blogger, local business owner, or online store, these practical optimizations will help boost your traffic—and your bottom line.

12 Reasons Your Old Content No Longer Ranks in 2025
The SEO landscape looks a lot different in 2025 than it did even two years ago. Many businesses wonder why their once top-performing content has disappeared from search results. The truth is, even if you haven’t changed a thing, the digital rules have evolved. Sticking to old methods without aligning with new standards by the SEO services of Melbourne and elsewhere holds your rankings back. Let’s uncover the major reasons why your content no longer delivers the visibility it used to.
Search Algorithms Keep Evolving
Google now uses advanced AI models to understand context and user behaviour:
Your once-optimised blogs might lack the nuanced depth newer algorithms seek
Content that isn’t semantically rich appears less credible to search engines
Overuse of keywords without natural flow leads to poor performance
User Intent Has Become Hyper-Specific
Audiences search with more defined needs and expectations:
Vague or broad topics don’t answer today’s exact user queries
Old content may lack a clear intent match, pushing it lower in the rankings
Pages without targeted subtopics no longer compete well in SERPs
Our team specialises in delivering results-driven SEO services in Melbourne that adapt with every update.
Content Freshness Matters More Than Ever
Search engines reward updated, relevant information:
Posts from 2020 might still get traffic but won’t lead to search results
Data-driven content needs yearly updates to remain trustworthy
Older pages may be pushed down by newer, more topical content
Competitors Have Upgraded Their Game
While your strategy remains unchanged, others are moving ahead:
They use multimedia, interactivity, and modern layouts to hold attention
Compelling user experiences now influence dwell time and bounce rate
Dynamic content outshines static, long-form text-only pages
Voice And Mobile Search Dominate
The rise of mobile and voice search changes optimisation tactics:
Pages must load quickly and structure answers clearly
Conversational tone and short snippets support voice query rankings
Legacy blogs may lack mobile responsiveness or scannable formats
Core Web Vitals Impact Visibility
Google rewards high-performing websites:
Pages that load slowly or shift while loading rank lower
Visual stability and interactivity now shape performance scores
Without technical updates, older content may fail key benchmarks
Zero-Click Searches Affect Visibility
More users get answers directly on the results page:
Snippets, knowledge panels, and carousels eat into traffic
Pages need structured data and schema to remain visible
Outdated blogs often lack such formatting
Missing Modern Keywords
Search habits evolve as language shifts:
Older pages don’t include new buzzwords, trends, or phrases
Slang, regional terms and synonyms change how people search
Without updates, content fails to match search behaviour
Internal Linking Needs a Rework
Search engines favour a well-connected website structure:
Broken or sparse links drop crawlability
Legacy posts often exist in isolation without contextual paths
Content hubs and strategic linking boost authority
We provide SEO services for Melbourne startups and established enterprises alike, using a holistic strategy that modernises your entire website.
Metadata May Be Holding You Back
Meta titles and descriptions still matter in 2025:
Low-CTR pages fall behind even with good content
Search snippets must entice clicks with relevance and clarity
Many older blogs have outdated or missing metadata
Image SEO is Overlooked
Visual content plays a bigger role in rankings:
Uncompressed images have a slow download speed
Alt text and captions contribute to searchability
Google Lens and visual search reward-optimised visuals
Trust Factors Are More Visible
Search engines now value authority signals more than ever:
Author bios, backlinks, and review signals shape rankings
Posts without updated citations or trustworthy voices underperform
External links to outdated or non-secure sources reduce credibility
AI Content Detection is Becoming Smarter
Search engines can now identify poorly written or AI-heavy content:
Generic posts created using automated tools may get flagged
Lacking originality or unique insights affects engagement
Natural tone and value-driven insights help earn trust
Interactive Content Performs Better
Users now engage longer with interactive elements:
Quizzes, polls, carousels and animations keep interest alive
Static formats lose to richer and more immersive experiences
Time-on-page and return visits rise with engagement tools
Melbourne’s search engine trends evolve fast, but our SEO methods stay ahead with time-tested, locally informed strategies. Why do so many brands choose our SEO services in Melbourne? Because they see results.
Content Duplication is Pulling Your Site Down
Duplicate or near-duplicate content harms rankings:
Pages competing with themselves confuse crawlers
Similar headings or topics dilute the topical authority
Canonical tags and content rewrites keep your structure strong
Old Formats Lack Engagement Hooks
Today’s content needs strong hooks to retain attention:
Without storytelling or emotional cues, users bounce quickly
Headers and transitions shape reading flow and intent
Clear, bold CTAs lead to higher conversions
Thin Content No Longer Holds Up
Short blogs with minimal value fade fast:
Fewer words mean less context for search crawlers
Poorly researched articles reflect low authority
Pages under 500 words rarely sustain long-term traffic
New SERP Features Change Visibility Dynamics
With more visual and featured tools on Google:
Traditional organic spots get pushed down
Rich results and panels dominate screen space
Structured content makes it easier to surface across formats
Analytics Blind Spots Hurt Decisions
Neglecting to monitor older content performance causes gaps:
No data-driven decisions limit optimisation efforts
Search console insights guide refinement
Even great posts need performance reviews
Concluding Words
Your content may have been good enough in the past. But the web never sits still. Staying visible requires staying relevant.
