Got this at a library sale a couple days ago and finally got it out of the plastic they always wrap their books in!

This is one of my all-time favourite books. I already bought the English version a few years ago, but this was a library sale in my hometown which means it was this exact book I read some many times when I was younger, and it definitely has a special place in my heart.

Also I just reread the last ~two and a half chapters and I'm already so damn emotional about Alec and Richard and Katherine again.

Last Movie Watched: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I liked it although I have issues with Quentin Tarantino on a number of levels. Violence mainly although people complain about a lot more when they get wound up about him. I actually like some parts that many people might not like--re-visiting the general creepiness and casually accepted prejudices and sexism of the period; he observes that the good old days weren’t good old days at all! (I lived the time period and so can admire how much he got right about setting and general ambiance although the movie is clearly not intended to portray the period in a realistic way--how about that title!) Sorry--did not mean to try to write a review. It was complicated for me. Not always an easy watch.

Book I am Reading: The Chapel by Michael Downing, a novel about a marriage, how one can feel grief and be furious all at the same time and wrongly believe one remembers things as they were. It’s about Dante’s Divine Comedy and its relationship to Giotto’s frescoes in a famous chapel in Padua also. If one is going to write about people’s pretensions one needs an object. One review called it “playful and erudite but also self-conscious and perhaps too restlessly rarefied.” True, but it works for me because I relate so much of it to a real-life relationship past--if the shoe fits wear it. A lot of the worst things about these people feel very real.

Food I am craving: I’ve been wanting ice cream for days!! Dulce de Leche.
