the way i see it, colin has three options for handling the repercussions of kissing michael on the pitch in front of everyone:

gatekeep: by some miracle no one caught the kiss on camera so colin's sexuality is kept between him and any fans who happened to be on the pitch near him. the safest option.

girlboss: keeley gets the pr challenge of a lifetime handling the story of the first active premier league player to come out as gay. rebecca is tall and powerful and intimidating in the press room making it clear that richmond stands behind colin one thousand percent. the most realistic option.

gaslight: straight-up blatantly lying. not because he's ashamed or because he thinks he can actually convince anyone that the kiss didn't happen, but just because he refuses to let it be a big deal. acts like he has no idea what anyone is talking about if asked anything related to his sexuality. he doesn't claim to be straight, mind you, he just pretends to be extremely confused about why they're asking because he never kissed anyone in the middle of a football pitch at the end of an internationally-televised game? when presented with photo and video proof of the kiss he says that was some other richmond player named hughes who wears a number 12 jersey. you don't know him, he goes to another school. the funniest option.

in light of tedtrent becoming so real, im also jumping on the tedtrent epilogue 😊

there's just no way ted wouldn't keep in touch with the others (and have weekly zoom meetings just like in the christmas special) and I just love the thought of the whole team having reunions once in a while.

and going back to trent's arc in s3, the sunflowers conversation, "And your daughter?" "She's never been happier." I think it could go the same for ted.. we've never really properly saw how henry felt about his dad being in london, it's always other people that told ted his son misses him, who's to say henry would rather see his dad happy because that in turn would make him happy too? he was there to win the whole thing, right? I just know ted’s story isn’t done yet when he still hasn’t learned to let others take care of him in return and who else to pair him with than the man who blew up his career because a man was nice to him (and also because they were so. so cruel for the fakeout tedbecca scenes for that finale) 🥺

I'm no writer so just pretend these are snapshots of a slow burn fic where ted visits london for their team reunion and slowly realizes that trent has a crush on him and they kiss about it 💛

You have to think it’s Nate demanding to work as an assistant to the kit man, right? Everyone else would not only have be fine with but would have loved to have him come straight back as a coach. Yet there he is, helping Will out in a very probably made up position and being perfectly happy to do so.

And maybe it’s an act of penance (though I’m ambivalent about that idea, as there’s nothing lesser about being a kit man), or just a need to work his way up and earn his way in (though no one asks that of him). Maybe it’s about reclaiming his first job with the team, exorcising whatever old pain and bad memories still lingers after the abuse he once suffered in this position. Maybe it’s just the need to rest in something familiar and comforting and simple for a while; a need for some time out of the limelight and a safe place to heal.

Whatever the reason, the team and the other coaches respect it and there’s something about that – the acceptance and kindness and grace of it – that does my head in. They could use Nate as a coach, they want him as one, but they let him be an assistant to the kit man, let be whatever he needs to be, until he is ready to once more be something else.

Ailbhe takes a seat and watches you sleep, a fond smile on their face. I'm being Tumblr-normal about media and rewatching all the Jamie bits of Ted Lasso, and like

I'm struck by the fact that when he gets himself in 3.7 he sounds confused at best, disappointed at worst

Cause like. You could see the coaches giving him his own name as a way to say it's okay to be him (which, given the past relationships between Jamie and the team, could be justified)

But then it's "figured you'd want to stay at your normal position". Translation: "we thought at best you weren't going to be happy to do the exercise with the team" which like

I want to say they've missed most of Jamie's growth (and they have! He's far from the guy we met in S1!) but also they're just being...bad coaches? Jamie was with Manchester when they introduced total football, meaning he's the only player here with experience with that style play, and they're essentially benching him from the exercise oO

Like. No wonder he's the only one doing total football right against Arsenal, and no wonder he can get it through to his teammates

Question is: what if he'd had an opportunity to explain that before the match?

I just finished this book and plan to restart it next week and do a much deeper dive. But all I can say is that you need to read this book. If you are at all concerned about our culture, homes, children, and men, read this book. Husbands and fathers read this book. Wives and mothers read this book.
