There’s something so intensely funny to me about Donnie loving to dance…but being the absolute worst at it

Like just looking at their scores for the dancing game, Mikey clears everyone, Raph holds his own, and Leo tried just hard enough to beat Donnie, and I find this all so dang funny

This isn’t to say he’s bad at it, we know they all have at least some skill in that area, I just like the idea of characters enjoying something but not being super incredible at it just because they like it! It’s a humanizing trait that I don’t see often

Mikey being a ballet master inspired me

If season three happens we need a Mikey ballet episode I'm not joking

I personally headcanon that before he started to use magic and wore himself out Mikey would dance ballet to relieve himself of the stress. Casey Jr saw him do it one day and asked him to teach him, and so he knows how to ballet. I’m going to manifest this into canon by sheer willpower.

In the episode “sewer games” one of Aprils comments says that Mikey is a ballet master so ofc I have to draw it!!! But because I initially couldn’t design which colours to use a made 3 different versions and a mix of these three!

HI THERR ^^ my name is Austin or Reaper and I have a couple of TMNT Hcs. Some are the Rise version, others are the 2012 version.

First, for both versions, I think the turtles are heavily co-dependent on each other. Like HEAVILY. Let ONE turtle not come back home one night, everyone is freaking the hell out. ESPECIALLY IF IT’S MIKEY.

Another both versions HC, yk that whistle in Black Widow? The turtles have a certain calling system, kind of when teachers clap and you clap back in school. But it’s whistles and chirps. And it’s like silent communication in a way. Also, Master Splinter is definitely usually confused when he hears the whistles and chirps but has decided against saying anything.

Now, for 2012 HCs!

Ralph has major anger issues. Like completely destroying his room, cracking fingers to calm down and accidentally broke one, punching walls in the holes kind of anger issues.

Donnie is somehow the type who has such an unhealthy eating disorder (eating a lot one day and then not eating at all while designing an app another day) and it’s a miracle on how somehow, it hasn’t stamped his fighting abilities.

Leo paces in circles when he’s bored or practicing a new technique with his sword. Perfect circles if he’s anxious about something.

Mikey has an acrobatic fighting style (this goes for Rise and 2012).

Donnie used to have a rubix cube hyperfixation and literally has over 26 rubix cubes in there, 3x3, 2x2, 100x100, you name it. It’s not has much of a bigger hyperfixation now but you can still occasionally catch him fiddling and messing with one just to solve it again.

Ralph gets easily overstimulated with noise, especially if it’s insults and has a tendency to lash out as a defense mechanism when things or people get too loud.

Ralph is an avid smoker and probably an addict.

Mikey has completely mastered all forms of pencil spinning, every trick in the book and Donnie still gets jealous over it.

Ralphael “You didn’t eat again.” and Donatello “And you didn’t sleep again.”

Leo knows such useless but somehow important information? Like while Donnie knows only the important stuff, Leo knows the unconventional stuff. Like he knows how dismember a body but does not know how to cook a body.

Leo likes true crime podcasts and books about detectives.

Ralph and Casey do not argue. They spar. And whoever wins has successfully proved their point in whatever the argument was about and loser has to do what they say to fix whatever they were arguing about.

Have you seen the fights between Natasha Romanoff and The Winter Soldier? That’s usually them.

Leo is a pathological liar, and is trying to not lie as much. He also has a tendency to copy trauma responses he sees on the tv shows Splinter puts on to get Splinter’s attention.

Leo would absolutely be a theatre kid.

Ralph likes hot chocolate and only smokes when he’s stressed or angry.

And also refers to his brothers as “his boys”.

Mikey commonly does ballet and is an aerialist. It helps a ton with his fighting style — seeing as both ballet dancers and aerialist have to be A. On point, B. Discipline and able to handle being pushed beyond their physical limits and C. Controlled and deadly.

Again, Donnie has disordered eating. But mostly just consumes drinks instead of actual nutrition and even has forgotten to eat at some points.

Ralphael “You didn’t eat again.” and Donatello “And you didn’t sleep again.” because YES.

Leo is, how could I say this? The brat of the family. Regularly finds loopholes to punishments he gets.

Mikey starts bouncing up and down when he’s excited. Pizza? He’s bouncing. Patrol? He’s bouncing. Movie night? He’s BOUNCING. Ralph, Donnie and Leo essentially have a damn ball for a brother.

Ralph is actually great with kids, especially younger babies. Surprisingly, they don’t seem all that afraid of him. It’s Donnie they’re afraid of.

Ralph still has horrible anger issues, but in a way that his head starts to hurt when he’s angry. In a way that his own anger-filled thoughts terrify him, in a way where he’ll take it out on himself instead of others.

Donnie paces when he’s ranting and paces in perfect circles when he’s figuring something out.

Donnie is the “genius and madness” trope and nope. I don’t wanna hear any criticism.

Donnie does jigsaw puzzles. And has learned Japanese just so he could understand the sub version of anime.

Leo is a writer but NOBODY knows that.

And yeah, that’s about it :p

It is said at one point in the show that Mikey is a ballet master, so had the very spontaneous desire to represent it on paper…

… is something I really wanted to be true. Unfortunately, there is more backstory to this drawing than I'd want (⁠ ⁠；⁠∀⁠；⁠)

You see, I once had a strong traumatic experience affiliated with dance, and just the subject being brought makes my brain freeze, caught in a long war between my traumatized braincells who are readying various coping mechanisms and the ones who want to be rational and objective about it.

And if I don't do anything about it, it will haunt me and spoil my feelings towards a show or character.

And NOTHING will distract me from being a Rise fan nor from liking my sweet sweet Michaelangelo so much that I start giggling every time I think about him.

Instead of letting this idea live rent free in my brain and wither in it, I drew Mikey dancing. And it worked.

I have no idea of how the laws of physics work up here, but as long as I can maintain my addiction to TMNT alive, I will not ask any sarcastic questions. (⁠・-・⁠)

Anyway, that was the tragic backstory, now I can talk about the technicalities.

I drew this when I was still in my beginner phase of turtles drawings, but it is around the time when I caught a grasp of understanding about how to draw them. So it is an important step in my rottmnt journey. ✌️

I'll try to finish it when I have access to colour again.

It was New Year’s Eve, the turtles, master splinter, Casey and Vern were round at April and Y/N’s apartment to celebrate. The thing is, every year Y/N found herself on the roof of the apartment complex with her mom thinking about the year to come. Except this year was different...because her mom was no longer there.

Splinter told Y/N once that your pain makes you stronger...but right now, she was trying so hard not to fall apart. This was the one thing they always did together and Y/N felt like she could barely do it alone. Thank god Raph found her.

“Y’know the party is goin’ on downstairs, right?” He spoke aloud as soon as he got up there

Y/N quickly wiped the proof of her sadness from her face before he could see. “Y-yeah, this is just something me and my mom would do...every year...” she trailed off

“...you okay?” Raph knew Y/N hated it when people saw her cry, but he could tell she was hurting.

She turned to look at him, a single tear trailing from her eye, “I just don’t want to be alone right now.” Was all she could find herself saying.

Raph gave her a fond smile before sitting down on the gravel next to her.

Out of everything that had happened in the past year, Y/N was so grateful that she had met the turtles. It was funny when April found footage of when Y/N was just a baby and she was looking at the turtles in that lab all those years ago. But having friends her age, it was the greatest gift she could’ve ever asked for.

Especially Raph, he gets it. How it feels to struggle with sharing emotions, how anger was always bubbling somewhere. He just...understood her.

And she understood him.

“Thanks Red” she breathed.

“No problem.”

Their breathing evaporated into white smoke, drifting into the night air that seemed to be buzzing with energy.

They can hear the excitement from Times Square, the anticipation of the ball about to drop and bring in the new year.

That was when something popped into her mind.

“Raph, what do you and your brothers usually do for New Years?” Y/N found herself asking.

Raph seemed a bit taken aback that she had even asked that. “Uh, nothin’ special, we just watch the ball drop on tv and watch other people celebrate and that’s about it.” He sighed. “Too busy out to patrol so we just stay in. Mikey always tried to bring in new traditions to make it more excitin’ but it never really stuck. But this year is special since we don’t have to spend it underground and we’ve got friends to spend it with.” He grins at her when he finished.

Y/N could feel the breath being stolen from her lungs when he made eye contact with her like that. “so you guys don’t have any New Years traditions?” She could feel the butterflies fluttering around in her stomach from the mere idea that her brain had produced.

“Nah, none”

“Huh...”

Silence settled over them like a blanket before they both could make out a distant countdown echoing from the heart of the city.

“Is it almost midnight already?” Y/N found herself asking before standing up, she wanted a good view of the fireworks

“EIGHT!”

She felt Raph join her at the edge of the roof, looking out over the streets.

“SEVEN!”

Finding herself staring at one of her best friends, she couldn’t help but smile at the look on his face from the magic of it all. New Years in New York City.

“SIX!”

That’s when the idea started nagging her again.

“FIVE!”

Breathing in, she walked towards him.

“FOUR!”

Breathing out, she placed her hand on his bicep.

“THREE!”

She watched his head turn around to meet her gaze.

“TWO!”

Placing her other hand on his cheek she felt herself rising onto her tippy toes, just like in ballet.

“ONE!”

And just like that her lips met his.

“HAPPY NEW YEAR!”

She found herself wrapping her arms around his neck as he started to respond to the kiss, with him placing his hands on her hips, eventually crawling around her waist, pulling her closer as they melted into one another.

Lips gliding over the others, they ignored the fireworks going off around them as they got lost in the others embrace.

But they found themselves coming up for air.

“Wow.” Was all Raph could find himself saying. “That was...amazing.” He breathed into her lips, still wrapped around one another.

“I could say the same about you.” She stared up into his eyes, mesmerised by the colours she found there.

“I can’t believe I’m your first kiss.” Raph found himself saying, remembering the situation Mikey had brought up a couple months ago when they were playing a game of truth or dare and first kisses had come up as a subject, revealing that Y/N hadn’t actually had hers yet.

“Well I’m yours too Red.” She rested her forehead on his, looking into his eyes with so much fondness. “Does this...mean we’re a thing?” He asked hesitantly, hoping with all his heart it wasn’t just a one time thing.

Y/N’s heart stuttered at the thought, “Only if you want us to be” She found herself saying.

And instead of answering, he just kissed her again, knowing that this year was going to be amazing as long as she was by his side.

February 14th, Valentine’s Day. Usually Y/N spent it alone watching Brooklyn 99 or friends with April but this year, April was on a date with Casey. Leaving y/n alone in their living room trying to decide which movie to watch...

That was until she heard someone tapping on the window leading out to the fire escape.

Pulling up the blind Y/N saw her terrapin boyfriend staring back at her behind the glass. A smile broke out across her face.

“Hey red. What are you doing here?” She asked once she opened the window.

That was when Raph pulled out a single rose from behind his back.

“Happy Valentine’s day.”

Y/N was so shocked she had to take a step back.

“Oh my god, thank you. It’s beautiful Raphie.” She commented as she took the rose from him.

“Also, to answer your question, I’m here because I wanted to spent Valentine’s day with my girlfriend.” He smirked up at her.

“Well come in then.” Y/n blushed at him referring to her as his girlfriend. They’d only been dating for a month but all of this was still fairly new territory.

Straightening up, Raphael stepped into the human girl’s living room.

“What you watching?”

“Brooklyn 99”

“Huh, never seen it.”

“YOU’RE JOKING.”

Raph chuckled at Y/N’s expression.

“Ok, wait one second and then I’ll put the first episode on.”

The giant turtle made himself comfortable on the couch whilst Y/N filled a glass vase with water and placed the rose inside it. She then walked over and joined Raph, cuddling into his side as she flicked through Netflix.

“So, what’s it about?” He asked.

“It’s a dark comedy about cops in the Brooklyn precinct.” She stated offhandedly.

“Oh...a dark comedy?”

“Basically it’s just a comedy except without the audience laughing in the background.” She explained.

“Ah.” And for the rest of the night they stayed and watched, glancing at one another every once in a while.

Y/N sneaked looks at Raph to see if he liked the show and Raph glanced over at Y/N to see if she wanted to do anything else at one point. Not to say, he didn’t enjoy her warmth.

“Are you having a good day so far?” Raph asked nervously.

“What do you mean? I’ve been home all day.” She answered

“You could’ve come down to the lair.” He suggested.

“I was helping April get ready for her date with Casey, you have no idea how difficult it is to get that woman to pick out an outfit.” Y/N rolled her eyes and laughed afterwards.

Raph shot her a fond look and thought to himself how lucky he was to have someone on Valentines this year.

He found himself leaning in.

“Y/N?”

“Yeah?” Y/N turned away from the screen to find his lips on hers. She melted into him, wrapping her arms around his neck once again and falling backwards until the couch cushions hit her back.

Sighing into his lips, she let his tongue dart out to taste her before she let him in. Y/N let out an embarrassed moan. “Sorry.” She mumbled, a crimson blush blooming across her cheeks and spreading to her ears. Raph found himself smiling at her adorableness. “Don’t be.” He leaned back down again, trying not to squash her, being oh so delicate.

“Thanks for coming over.” She gasped into his mouth.

“No problem.” He groaned back, that was, before they heard April’s keys jingle in the lock.

“Shit!” Y/N whisper shouted to herself. “Just pretend we were watching the show.” Her eyes widened almost comically as she resumed to cuddle into Raph, wiping his saliva off of her mouth hurriedly.

Casey let out a bark of laughter as he and April stumbled into the apartment.

“Sounds like you two had fun.” Raph let out awkwardly as the pair watched the other slightly more drunk pair.

“Oh, we did.” Casey snarked, April hit his chest playfully.

“Please don’t be spending the night, you two are way too drunk to be fooling around.” Y/N chastised.

Pissed off that they had ruined the only action she had gotten in like...ever.

This is two months after their New Years kiss/first kiss (ever), and so it is also two months into their relationship. Y/N visits Raph during the cold winter months of New York (early March) and brings a whole load of blankets and quilts with her since she knows how the cold effects her terrapin boyfriend. She ends up dragging them all into his room and on top of the bed until she’s made a mutant-turtle sized cocoon of blankets.

After wrapping themselves in blankets and settling herself into his side, Raph looks down at her fondly, noting her increased heartbeat against his plastron.

“There’s nothing I love more than the warm feeling in my chest or cuddling up to the person that puts it there”

Raph freezes for a minute, seeing as y/N, like him, struggles to talk about their emotions sometimes. He’s not only shocked but astounded at the words that just came out of her pretty mouth.

Except what came next shocked him even more

“God, I love ya.”

This time it was Y/N’s turn to freeze, seeing as she didn’t directly tell Raphael that she loved him but went for the more indirect route. She slowly turned so she was looking up at him, her chin perched on his chest.

A smile spread across her face as she read the nervous look written on the red masked turtle’s expression.

“I love you too Raphie.”

Raphael felt tears build up in his eyes as he finally heard the words he thought he’d never get to hear. Especially from her of all people. What happened after that was obvious.

He kissed her as if she was his oxygen, and without her, he couldn’t breathe.

He's got Interpersonal and Bodily–kinesthetic like nobody else, plus epic Musical–rhythmic, plus Intrapersonal, Naturalistic, and Existential. Just because he has ADHD and transient expressive aphasia, doesn't understand math, displays highly non-linear thinking, defies and denies logic and physics, and refuses to learn the classroom way doesn't mean he's [insert ableist terms regarding intellect]. Notice how he absorbs Donnie's chemistry and biology lessons quietly by stimming. Also, he's a creative chef and an artist. Also he's an Olympic-level athlete, and an expert in acro-yoga, capoeira, ballet, gymnastics, parkour, jiujitsu, aikido. A master of kusarigama and nunchaku which requires extraordinary balance, flexibility, agility, proprioception, high-jump, nearly psychic sensitivity of self and surroundings. He's literally empathic and reads people like books. He absorbs the anger and upset from others and projects joy and love. He asks his brothers to repeat mission plans so he can remember, like a sponge, because of learning disabilities, and he gets smacked on the head for it. He says ridiculous silly weird nonsensical things to try and make others relax. He has nearly perfect memory, thus was chosen as navigator. He's the most neurodivergent character in the franchise. And he should not only get more love and credit, he should get side effects from his family constantly putting him down, smacking him, and calling him names. It's easy for the sunshine children to develop depression, anxiety, nightmares. The episodes "Into Dimension X" and "Journey to the Center of Mikey's Mind" should have had some sort of PTSD effect I would think. Spending months alone in a bizarre alien dimension learning an entirely different set of laws of physics, being attacked by homicidal aliens trying to destroy his inner self, which happens to be a child... In "Parasitica" he should have gotten night terrors, being the only one who could save his family and the world from becoming zombie-like wasp drones. He's sixteen and an extroverted wild child whose greatest fear is being abandoned by his family in the darkness to be fed alone to the monsters . Somebody give that boy a hug. (I just have a LOT of feelings. This is why fanfics. I might never be done with all the little stories I've been writing for Cold Fire Rising 2 Ouroboros. Reviewers have been quite encouraging. I'm tormenting the heck out of that boy. I love him.) I just have a lot of feelings. Saw your question about musical instruments and fighting styles for the turtles. I don’t have instruments, but I always felt like Leo’s love of fighting with his blades was very akin to a highly skilled ballet dance.

Like, one day the guys saves a women from a Purple Dragon mugging, and when Leo sheepishly turns to her to say “Miss I promise we won’t hurt you.” He doesn’t get the words out because she starry eyed and very obviouslu not afraid. She exciting exclaims how his fightinf looked just like her ballet practice.

Raph, Donnie and Mikey are suddenly stuck listening to the excited rambles of two giant ass nerds talking about the disciplines of their respective practices.

Cuuuute, I imagine these Purple Dragons are more like previous iterations, yeah? Past Leos can definitely get that ballet vibe to their styles I see it I see it.

Though I will say that in Rise I’d argue Mikey’s more ballet than Leo just in terms of canonical mentions! But tbh all of them have some forms that could mesh well with ballet, Mikey’s just the one I think of most when it’s mentioned as he’d been described as a ballet master before.

For Rise Leo, I actually find his style of fighting akin to figure skating. I might actually make a post about this at some point but it’s actually fun to look into for him.

Fighting styles are always fun to look at though because fighting and dancing go hand in hand, and I wholeheartedly agree that dual wielding katana and using them as Leo does is probably one of the biggest examples this in the series.
