I was searching through some old files and found a collection of Frankenstein&creature portraits I drew back when I was brain-deep in a Frankenstein obsession and watching every Frankenstein-adjacent movie I could get my hands on. Happy Halloween, I guess??

As much as I like to draw mushy wholesome romance between two characters...I love horror to an almost unhealthy extent. It is my favorite genre of anything honestly (I have spent days binge watching horror films back to back to back on Netflix, even the bad ones)

I've never really done a recommendation list before for anything so I can only list my favorites that I could spend a day rewatching no problem. I also need to add that I am a gore hound and the gorier the film or series is, the higher my chances of enjoyment so please keep this in mind.

My FAVORITE horror films are:

Brain Dead/ Dead Alive: I need to state that this film basically has EVERY trigger in it and did not age well AT ALL in terms of some of the jokes. However, having watched it when I was young, it was a crucial part of me becoming a horror fan and I love this trainwreck dearly...for its special effects. Mainly just the special effects. I do appreciate how the film is kinda split in two. The first being funny zombie comedy stuff and the last half being...well a shit ton of blood and gore. Also it has stop motion in it at some points which I love as someone who also adores stop motion.

The Final Destination Franchise: Not recommended for the paranoid but I love this 2000s ass film franchise. The premise is creative as well as the deaths. I also love that Death is super petty in this series and refuses to just kill someone up front and instead chooses the Rube Goldberg approach to offing people. Plus the original voice actor for Kratos pops up in one of the films which is a bonus if you are a God of War fan like me. If I had to pick a favorite out of the franchise, I'd say it's a tie between the first and the last. HOWEVER, the last film is oh so more rewarding if you watched the entire franchise-I will not spoil why but just trust me.

Candyman: The original film specifically. It's so interesting how the antagonist is a living myth and is so poetic in his words that sometimes I kinda forgot he was the villain. I love his design and the fact this film deeply touches on certain issues and not just being focused on being a typical slasher.

The Haunted Mansion: Yes the...original Disney live action film with Eddie Murphy. I count it as a horror film because it was genuinely scary to me as a kid. There's still some horrific stuff in it now. I mean, you got the opening credit scenes leading up to a dude straight up hanging himself, the zombies looking like straight up corpses, A DUDE GETTING DRAGGED TO HELL. The music still haunts me to this day.

Nope: A recent addition but this is def one of the best horror films I've seen. It is filled to the brim with so many details that you don't catch on the first watch. Plus, the "spaceship" is such a well designed element that I still think about how it works and how smart of a concept it was. I love the protagonists in this film as well and the bit of humor sprinkled in. I actually enjoyed this film so much I read the script for it since it was online (which I've never done for any film before). Cannot recommend this film enough.

Us: This film is just a level or horror that I only feel when reading Junji Ito stories. The idea of a doppelganger never scared me until this film because the entire concept is your other self hunting you down to kill you. There's a murder spree scene in this film that is so well framed and done because you see both everything and nothing at the same time because of the camera angle. The Tethered are underrated as monsters.

The Thing: The old one with the husky dog. The original Among Us and the best "WHO THE FUCK IS THE KILLER" film. The special effects are amazing and the fact that the audience cannot tell who the alien is is so great because we feel just as scared as the crew members. Plus...the alien absorbing people is just straight horrific.

This list is getting long and I have so many horror films I got jingling around in my brain but my last one is Pet Semetary. I was gonna put Poltergeist, which is also a favorite and is the only paranormal film I enjoy (I am not a big fan of ghost movies but that's because I love gore and carnage), but I kinda...don't really see it as a horror film. It certainly is one but there's so many cute and funny moments and it's kinda more whimsical than scary to me.

ANYWAYS BACK TO PET SEMETARY-There's an unsettlingness to it that I can't really explain. It's not just the dead pet aspect, it's just the vibes in it. The happy music becoming twisted as well as the always foreboding mood where you know something bad is gonna happen. There's a couple things that are left up to the audience's imagination but there's enough context that you just KNOW something terrible happened (like that ending). Plus, the little kid actor going on a killing spree is...kinda funny. He's just a little fella with a knife having a good ole time before bedtime.

Chapter 4

An unexpected Incident

Narrator pov:

It was enough to make anyone want to be a cop. Like Shaw being Shaw he was at was at the nearest coffee cafe he sees Chris and Austin walking own the sidewalk...but something felt off...where's Steve and his little robot? He thought to himself. He exited his mind scape and returned to reality

Police 1: Sarge we kind of need you here...it's urgent

Shaw:Alright I'll be heading back to the station soon, just...give me a minute

Police 1: sure thing sir...just don't take to long

Shaw turned of his radio and went outside the robot came to view but...'where's Steve? And shouldn't the robot be with him of all times? Ugh too many questions all this thinking is giving me a headache...' shaw thought to himself as he rode his police car and drove to he police station. As he was about to enter his office he sees 2 of his men covered in stains of blood

Shaw: What in tarnation happened to you you 2!?

Shaw shouts with worry and surprise, Luckily they only got scratches and other small wounds. One of the rockies grabbed a sample of what caused this mess in the first place, the rookie handed me a sample of a some sort of purple liquid and a tip of a spike?

Shaw:Rookie where did you get this?

Rookie 1: we found it at a opend End portal it was very strange too. Spikes were coming out of the portal, it was dripping these purple things, and the the grass were turning ito endstone when we came to investigate on what was going on a spike immediately came out of the ground and peirced out one of our crew!

'Odd why would there be Spikes at the portal?  And what could had caused this to happen? It's not like someone would do something that would transform this entire dimension into a floating wasteland...sometimes just not adding up...' Shaw thought to himself

Shaw: Alright I'll see what I can do, I'll investigate this 'thing' tomorrow for now I need you to head to the changing room and get changed got it?

Both rookies in union: Sir yes sir!

Sarge sighed in relief and went ahead to Steve's place to tell the news of what happened to his today's patrol. Once Shaw was at he door he nocked on it followed by a "hey Steve! I'm back from patrol I really really want to tell you something" but...Nobody answered, Shaw nocked on the door again but no avail it was like nobody was home at the time. Shaw decided to enter the house himself. Once he stepped foot into Steve's door he came to witness Spikes are all over the entirety of the house,it was also very messy everything was broken, shattered and torn into small pieces 'who would do such a thing!?' he screamed in his mind, Shaw became worried if Steve could've gotten kidnapped or even worse!. Steve was like a son to him, even tho he never had one. Sarge was very Very worried about the kid. Now he has 2 things to investigate first the end situation and now Steve...Shaw made a promise to Steve that he would be there whenever he needs him or whenever he needs a dad to comfort him.

Universal Frankenstein 1931

I hate this movie with my whole being. It's like they read the book upside down and backwards. Hate the creature's design. 1/10

Young Frankenstein

A hilarious spoof of the Universal film. Gene Wilder kills it as Frederick von Frankenstein. Creature design is much better than Universal, I love the non functional zipper on his neck. So silly and goofy. 9/10 (minus one point for Creech fucking being an important joke/plot point bc it makes me uncomfortable)

Junji Ito's Frankenstein

A mostly faithful comic adaptation of the original novel. Creature design is fantastic but he has short hair for some reason. Very cool art. 8/10

Frankenstein Alive, Alive!

Literally my favorite graphic novel. Bernie Wrightson cared about the Creature so much and it really shows. Incredible adaptation exploring the rest of Creech's life. 11/10 cannot recommend enough

Frankenweenie

Great Tim Burton movie. I love Sparky. Another successful spoof of the Universal film. 7/10 (minus points for being lowkey racist/xenophobic)

The Rocky Horror Show / Picture Show

I'm lumping in the musical and movie together. I love RHPS with my whole being. And it's a weirdly good adaptation. Dr. Frank N Furter's desire to create the perfect artificial man is explicitly queer. Rocky is born and immediately starts singing about how he's confused and miserable. 8/10

I, Frankenstein

Not a great movie but I did kind of enjoy it. Adam Frankenstein is caught in the celestial war of good and evil because he is neither human nor demon. His design sucks because he's just a guy, not nearly fucked up enough. Also he's not an incel which is very out of character unfortunately. 5/10

The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein

What the fuck is this book. Reading it was a roller coaster ride of "ok i dig this" and "what the actual fuck am I reading". All you need to know is the author sucks the human soul out of Victor and makes Creech a furry. 2/10

Frankenstein: A New Musical

I love this musical!! It's mostly book accurate with great portrayals of every single character. The original production's Creature design sucks though, it's literally just the actor with no prosthetics or makeup or anything. The music ranges from average musical stuff to absolute bangers. 9/10

Edward Scissorhands

I love this movie so I'm counting it because the Inventor makes an artificial human which is basically Frankensteining. Edward is adorable I love him so much. I think the movie is a great metaphor for the treatment of disabled/neurodivergent people in society. 8/10

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Specifically Sally and Dr. Finkelstein. Dr. Finkelstein is a super shitty dad to his creation, and Sally just wants to go out in the world and be a normal monster girl. As a Frankenstein adaptation 9/10 also 10/10 movie

X Files: The Post-Modern Prometheus

Incredible retelling with fantastic references to the original text. Mulder and Scully get justice for a monster in a crazy small town. And the episode is in black and white for no reason other than drama. But for some reason the Creature, who is called El Mutato, r**es people so for that unfortunately 7/10

You Gotta Buy Some If You Wanna Get One Free!

February's Patreon-backed @tfwiki theme is CAMPAIGN PROMOTIONAL MICRONS! These exclusive Mini-Cons were only available by buying certain things in certain stores in Japan at certain times! And there's a LOT of them!

There had been some promos earlier, but things really blew up with Legend Of The Microns (aka Armada). You could get one random member of the DESTRUCTION MICRON UNDERGROVE EDITION (CRUSH, DUSTER, WHEEL) by buying Convoy Super Mode at Ito Yokaido stores in January.

Mind, some stores wouldn't always follow the rules. Reportedly, some Ito Yokaido stores gave you a Destruction Undergrove Micron with ANY LotM purchase. Which could certainly be a lot cheaper than buying three of the biggest toy in the line (so far) for the set!

Fifteen different promotional Microns were released through various outlets in LotM, though six of them are identical to normal-retail Hasbro Armada Mini-Cons. Some were offered through mulitple outlets and multiple dates, making them a bit easier to obtain.

In Galaxy Force (aka Cybertron), the Microns are themed to certain major characters! The HELLFLAME MICRONS (BULGE, GRAVITON, QUASAR) are themed to Flame Convoy (Scourge), and two have new handles glued onto them because the Scourge toy has no Powerlinx pegs to use their weapon modes!

The same thing happened to the CALIBER MICRONS (ICHIBI, HYAKURAI, MUGEN), as their partner Sonic Bomber (Wing Saber) hasn't got normal hands to hold weapons, just 5mm holes in his forearms. At this point, the members of the teams were often split up across multiple stores.

Takara would continue to pump out a ton of promotional toys over the next several years, especially a LOT of Arms Micron kits during Prime. But we're gonna skip those as I've heavily covered them already, and move on to some real weirdos…

For Lost Age (Age of Exintction), four DINOBOT MICRONS were released. SLING the dragon is… odd, because yeah, a dragon is not a dinosaur. He was available at a ton of chains with a 3000yen purchase of Lost Age toys. But let's move on to the real stars here…

IVAN, PAULIE, and THUNDERLIPS. Yes, you read that right. These three are named after Hasbro's "code names" for Grimlock, Strafe and Slug toys, all taken from Rocky characters. Amazing. Also, Thunderlips scares me because that clear-plastic feels so very breakable.

I've done a LOT of promo Micron images, but there's still roughly a dozen left I've not done pics of yet. Maybe I'll do some more very soon. Some I don't own yet, but I've been keeping an eye out. This has certainly been a fun run through old tiny toys.

Dog Signal Episode 14 Review - Grieving Over A Loved One

Wow, that was quite an emotional episode. I did NOT expect it to get this heavy; it came out of left field and smacked me in the face so that it’d make me cry. You know what? I did shed tears watching this episode. Despite that, it was a really good one.

Niwa and Miyu get their first male client in Mr. Kato who is worried about his son’s Golden Retriever Rocky who hasn’t moved from his deceased son Takehiro’s shrine for over a year. He’s worried about how he didn’t move and is even urinating in unwanted areas because of it. When Niwa and Miyu go check him out, it turns out that his muscles have atrophied a lot, his paws because a reddish-brown hue due to licking and his elbows have calluses from excessive laying. It’s not a good sign for the dog to be in, especially since he’s getting up to the years—the dog is 11 years old. It turns out that the problem lies in his wife, Mrs. Kato who believes Rocky is mourning Takehiro’s death and refuses to let him leave the shrine. Fortunately, the dog is able to recover quickly because he was well-trained and easy to handle.

First off, I feel so bad for the Kato family. They had a son but he died right before he went to college, meaning he was 18 when he died. He was still at the prime of his youth. I’m sure the parents are devastated that their son was taken away from them so early. Takehiro had dreams and aspirations, but misfortunate came to him. It’s so sad to see parents lose their child. I pity Mrs. Kato for not being able to mourn for her son properly. It must be really hard to lose someone you just saw yesterday and realize that they aren’t coming back anymore. Because she couldn’t mourn properly, she projected her grief onto Rocky who was just sitting next to her in order to help alleviate her emotions. Because she believed Rocky was the one who was mourning and not her, she could move on, but she wasn’t truly moving on. I know that what Mrs. Kato was doing was technically abuse, but I can’t really bring myself to hate her because she was and is in a pitiful situation. Fortunately, she still has Rocky and her husband who have moved on from his death.

I also like that this case is a bit of a parallel with Niwa’s past in a way, as Miyu noticed. Niwa lost his dad, dog and seems to be distant from his mother. In Mrs. Kato’s case, she lost her son, but she still has her dog and husband who seems to be in good terms with. Despite that, Niwa has moved on, but the pain of losing his dog is still there. His stern face is because he’s holding back his tears. That’s rather funny, but also sadly cute in a way. I love how Miyu’s trying be understanding towards the case due to Niwa’s past and he’s also learning about cases like this. There is valuable information in this episode: dogs have short and long term memory. Dogs have good memory, but Niwa actually lied to Mrs. Kato in order to give her a wakeup call. An example of good memory is Rocky looking at Mrs. Kato’s behavior and going back to his spot. I love that Miyu ponders about a dog’s memories and hopes that Singe will have him in his memories for a long time. That’s so sweet. I really love it when Miyu’s thoughts are voiced out in the end; it’s like he’s writing a diary of his experience.

I’m always amazed by the voice actor casting for the minor characters. Mr. Kato is voiced by Kentaro Ito, who is known for voicing Renji Abarai from Bleach and Chouji from Naruto. Mrs. Kato is voiced by THE Nana Mizuki. Anime fans might recognize her for numerous roles like Hinata Hyuga from Naruto and Utau Hoshino from Shugo Chara. She’s also a prolific singer. If you’re familiar with the song Discotheque, she’s the singer. It’s crazy how they got three members of the Uzumaki family in this show already; we got Minato Namikaze as Niwa’s dad, Naruto Uzumaki as Ms. Kadota from Episode 8 and now Hinata in this episode. It’d be hilarious if Kushina, Boruto, Himawari and Kawaii’s voice actors make an appearance in later episodes, but I doubt it.

I love that the lesson for this episode is to not impose your own personal feelings onto your pets because they do not comprehend them. People do have a tendency to try and humanize their pets. Niwa’s lecture really hit home. I should be a bit more careful when it comes to understanding my dogs now. I can’t wait to see what next week has in store because this anime is so comforting and beautiful with life lessons revolving around pets. If you have seen this episode, what are your thoughts?

Hannibal spoilers, spoiler for No Longer Human, TW for (fictional) suicide

I’ve pondered the similarities between the ending of Hannibal and a scene in No Longer Human and thought I’d share here. It’s my going theory to explain the ending. It would be really cool if it was genuinely inspired by No Longer Human, but I don’t expect that.

For those who haven’t read it here is relevant (condensed) context from No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai: The protagonist, Yozo (arguably a psychopath), meets a depressed waitress whose husband is in prison (Tsuneko). He falls in love with her and they have an affair. Both seeing no purpose in living anymore, decide to overdose on sedatives and die by the sea. Yozo doesn’t die, kicks Tsuneko into the ocean, and she dies. (If you haven’t read it I highly recommend it, especially if you like Hannibal. Junji Ito has a marvelous adaptation of it).

Did Hannibal befell the fate of Yozo? When thrown into the ocean did Will take the fate of Tsuneko?

Tsuneko was the only woman Yozo ever truly loved. It would be fitting. Perhaps sparing him, even. His spouse was not in prison but healing from the captivity he unintentionally put her in. Tsuneko never has to tell her husband about her affair with another man. Perhaps Will won’t have to either.

A happy ending is not possible for Yozo, it never was. But he survived the ocean and left Tsuneko behind. He went on to continue to live his life the way he always had: causing the suffering of many people.

Yozo buried Tsuneko in the beach while haunted by the ghosts of people in his past who he tormented. I can picture a really cinematic scene of Hannibal doing the same, struggling to make a shallow grave in a thin, rocky beach. The figures of Abigail, Abel, Pazzi, and many others berating him while he works to lay Will’s bloated, ocean-strangled corpse down to rest. No Shiva statue, no totem, no glass moth, I think he would want him to genuinely rest. They died together, that was spectacle enough, his body wouldn’t need to be one too.

The top one, is Alfie Dubois, my main OC's (Agena Black) elder son. Under, are townies Malcolm Landgraab and Wolfgang Munch. I don't think I need to present Mal nor Wolfie, but here are a few titbits about Alfie:

-his dad's died before his birth; the only father he knew was his mom's second husband, Terry; -he has four half-siblings: twins Castula & Reggie, whose father is Terry, and Paul-Louis and Alaria, whose father is Simon, Agena's latest boyfriend; -if asked what his gender is, he would say that he doesn't know, but that he is neither a boy nor a girl; -he's gay (he discovered it when he was 12/13); he currently is dating Kiyoshi Ito (even if their relationship is rather rocky atm, mainly due to Kiyoshi's jealousy); -like his mother, he's a fervent gardener and studies biology, hoping to become a botanist some day; -other than Mal, Wolfie, and Kiyoshi, his other friends are Cassandra Goth, Morgan Fyres, his half-aunt Tabitha (Agena's half-sister), and her girlfriend Marie (his other aunt, the younger sister of his late father, Cédric).

I'll show more about those boys (who, really, are men, now) in the future; as I said, I love them a lot.
