I think another clear theme of Spiderverse is that, as we’re told in the first movie, anyone can be Spider-Man. But in the second movie, Miguel tells us that Spider-Man has rules. Certain things have to happen, certain people have to die, certain people aren’t meant to be Spider-Man. And the message there is that, once someone makes those kinds of rules, you run. Because it’s just not true. Anyone, literally anyone, can be Spider-Man. There is no requirement. We’ve been shown you don’t even need to be bitten by a spider!

And with the amount of people comparing Spiderverse to the queer experience, this is especially important. There are no rules to being queer. There are no labels that are exclusive. There are no labels that are even required. As soon as someone says you can’t be queer in a certain way, or certain identities don’t ‘count’ for whatever reason, you need to run. They are liars. There are no rules, and there never have been. You are queer because you said so, and this is your decision alone.

The worst thing Miguel and Jessica did to Gwen wasn't even threatening to send her home if she ever visits Miles, it's forcing her to choose their side during the chase scene and make Miles never want to see her again and once the chase scene ended they kicked her out. That's the kind of evil that the Spot was trying so hard to become.

Pride 2023 Day 7: Gwen Stacy

I still haven't seen the movie but y'all looked like you were having fun and it takes very little effort to make me draw Gwen.

Maybe I’m just dumb so if someone has an explanation for this pls help me out but it’s kinda odd to me that Gwen, one of the spiderpeople whose universe is extremely visually distinct from Miles’s universe, doesn’t keep her world’s watercolor/color-changing aesthetic in other universes. Like she basically looks like someone from Miles’s universe when she’s not in her own universe, whereas other spiderpeople from visually distinct universes (like Hobie, Noir, and Peni) maintain their universe’s aesthetics regardless of what universe they’re in. So why doesn’t Gwen?

(Also I get that her universe’s art style is a bit inconsistent in that it changes and “ripples” a lot, especially with the characters’ emotions, but it would be cool if they utilized that to have Gwen shift into her universe’s art style during emotional moments)

Gwen Stacy didn't wanna get kicked out because her dad pointed at gun at her for accidentally killing Peter Parker.

She has a whole monologue at the beginning explaining "hey yeah before you say anything I know I fucked up I'm so aware I'm actually expecting miles not to forgive me".

She risked the multiverse to hang out with Miles.

I saw someone say she "was probably dating hobie and forgot miles"- she was staying at Hobies place/universe because 1. She had no where else to go (her universe was a threat to her) and 2. It's not known if she was dating Hobie or not, but A. Wanted a watch to see Miles in the first place, B. Is clearly in love with miles, and C. That doesn't make sense anyways with how close they are (IMO).

And immediately, once she got her hands on the watch Hobie made for her, gathered everyone from ITSV and new people (Pav, Hobie, Margo) to go save her.

You missed her entire character plot if you think she's a fucked up, hurt miles on purpose, and evil person.
