2023 Writing/Stories Look-Forward

thanks to everyone who's read and liked and commented and tagged and sent in asks for my writing this year!

today i sat down to sketch out a vague--and definitely not set in stone plan for 2023--and I thought i'd share it with you guys, from a very high level and with the caveat that it will likely not be followed to the letter as i always inevitably bite off more than i can chew

but i lik to shoot high! lol so here's what i've got

Main goal: finishing the first draft of Nothing's Wrong with Dale and getting it all posted. this is the goal i'm most confident about and will lik, cannibalize other parts of my plan to achieve. i also have some like bonus offshoots for Dale, but those will likely get posted after the story is over and so are not part of the plan

Short Story goals: I plan to finish both Selfish (f!naga) and Free Piano: Haunted (m!spirit). I want to put out my Sci-Fi oneshot Snapped (m!alien) and the three part Seen (f!deity) - both of which i posted sneak peeks of a little while ago for that 'WIPs u didn't finish this year' ask meme.

Then it gets a little fuzzy - i'll either do two shorter 5 parts fics (both with winged monsters f&m) or one longer fic (probably Goddaughter or Quid Pro Quo - both m!demon fics), depending on what i'm feeling like for lik April-May ish. My summer fic will be about a runalong. In the fall/winter, I'll post the rest of Free Piano: Haunted and Feral (f!hellhound).

Choosing these from all my ideas was super hard, but I think i'm happy with what i picked (and all are technically subject to change).

At least, that's the plan.

As far as the short term, i plan to finish off some shorter things now (Selfish, Snapped, and Seen - idk y they all start with 'S' lol) in January. After that February and March are literally the busiest time of year for me at work and this will not be an easy busy season so I might literally post nothing (which is another reason that part of my plan is so up in the air). I will be working a minimum of 6 days a week, 55 hours a week - likely more than that so my brain will not be up for much writing during that time.

Hiatus: Last year I was able to keep posting Nothing's Wrong with Dale for some of January, but that's not going to be the case this year - putting up half of the next 4 part arc and then not finishing it until April would be unfair imo - both to you for the cliffhanger and to me because i will be able to write them far better if i write all oft he at once/in a row. So no more Dale until April, I'm afraid. The only reason I'll be able to post some of the other things at all in January is because most of them are already partially done where as next Dale is not started.

Okay so I decided to do some research on Spinal Cord Injuries because of potential Aven-centric fanfic (Something Beautiful) and uh.

Judging by where he got impaled by the spear, he might end up having complete Paraplegia (Paralysis of legs and occasionally lower back)... but since the chances of it being incomplete Paraplegia increases as you go further down the spinal cord, I think Aven might have incomplete Paraplegia...

Although he can't really walk on his own, since only one of his legs can barely registers anything, and he can't really move them voluntarily.

HOWEVER, that does not mean that he's gonna be out-of-action... since said fic is a crossover of sorts with my original idea called Runalongs, and he does get his own buddy that he uses a mount of sort (Unfortunately, it can't fit indoors due for it being the size of a large draft horse, so he usually resorts to a wheelchair or crutches whenever he's inside... said Runalong doesn't really care that it's a tad to big for indoor spaces, but it just helps with other stuff, kind of like a service dog!)

I will be looking more in-depth in this, since I do want it to be pretty accurate, as well as avoid any errors, especially with his Runalong.

like, its so weird how so many people saw them.

and i usually hear about them taking humanoid or doglike forms, but then other people have things like monkeys, and my brother said he saw a giant mouse.

Slime Science: Runalongs

Have you ever looked off to the side while moving quickly and noticed some kind of creature following at the same pace? Then you've managed to find a Runalong!

Runalongs are very fluid in appearance, their features shift a lot in a manner similar to certain Beings. However, they do have certain aspects that remain constant.

They are very tall, about eye-level with an adult male human riding a fully grown horse (Their exact height can vary wildly, but this is a good average)

They move on at least 4 legs, often more.

They are covered in either fur or feathers on their main body. This appears to only be different between individual Runalongs, as I've never seen them switch.

They are pitch black, and light seems to have a prismatic effect when reflected off their fur/feathers.

They have wings, and can fly with them.

They appear to be vaguely cat-like in body structure, but their ears and tail change to different species often.

Runalongs are rather peaceful, as they tend to stick to a distance unless called. (I found a melody they seem to like) Their fur/feathers are very soft.

They appear to be rather protective of their young, but will let you interact with them if they trust you. (I'm fairly certain I might of been adopted by one, seeing as it keeps following me.)

I suspect they either have a connection to displacer beasts or Barrier (Confirmed, there's a Being ) as they have the ability to slip in and out of reality as they please. They tend to only follow for the duration of a trip and vanish when the travel is over.

All in all, Runalongs are very pleasant creatures. They simply want to move with others.

this here was a relatively simple case to solve. see, i took a stroll down to where i normally meet up with my ol' source, google, in our typical back alley. but they weren't there. i went to the nearest payphone and called their number. turns out they got themself a new spot they hang out at. a little joint called the Search Bar just a block away from our typical meeting point.

anyway, i went down to the bar and asked them for "the runalongs tumblr." they were quick to hand over the screenshot i needed and i went along my way. first thing's first, check the address of the last blog in the chain. i went down to the blog's address and did a little snoopin' around, found the post in no time. i slipped the evidence into my coat pocket and left without ever leavin' a trace.

here's your post anon! i gotta say, i'm still greeted by these little creatures when i'm on long car drives, so it was nice to see others have seen them too. have a great day!

Potential Short Stories

hey, while looking to next year, i have a number of short stories I'm considering and i'd like to gauge y'alls interest in them and see if there are any that should move up my list.

these are all just the top ideas i'm considering at the moment and are subject to change when i get back to writing in Spring 2024, but i really want to know if any of these grabs ppls attention as often more interest in a story motivates me to write more!

Random creature doodle. I had the basic idea for this guy in my head for a pretty long time, but I decided to finally doodle them yesterday! Anyways, here's "Space Unicorn", their proper name is still pending.

Basically, this guy was for a random comic (?) Idea I had involving runalongs. Despite how they look, they're actually pretty sweet, and the comic wasn't going to be horror anyways! It was supposed to be a vaguely cyberpunk (?)/ glowcore styled action adventure series, but never gotten any ideas for the plot or anything.

I might doodle this guy and some other characters sometime soon, maybe even try to make a little draft comic.

Update: They have a name now! It's Grimshaw!

Something my co-host made me think;

So, @nostalgic90s has a very infamous twinleska fanfic, Young Blood. And in chapter 1, there's a situation Jerome and Jeremiah get into with a lady named Rosalie. And Jeremiah does some very not-so-nice things to this woman, and I just-

I found a song.

That makes me think SO MUCH, of Jeremiah's perspective of the whole thing.

Let me elaborate.

Firstly, this line just reminds me,

"He's looking at Rosalie and imagining himself gouging both her eyes out with a spoon."

This is obviously just a runalong with the title of the song but it makes me think.

Anyway-

Rosalie had been flirting with Jerome for a while before Jeremiah met her in person. He finds her to be, 'kind of pretty', in his words, when they first meet.

"Pretty little thing stopped me in my tracks,"

She tells him that there's rumors about him and Jerome, and how close they are. Sex and blah blah, they get into a spat.

"She told me not to step on the cracks,

I told her not to fuss and relax."

Of course Jeremiah tells her to back off.

"I said, "Hey, girl with one eye

Get your filthy fingers out of my pie"

(Jerome's the pie :])

Jeremiah also hates the fact she has blue eyes, because Jerome has, 'an affinity for people with blue eyes.'

"That's why you sleep with one eye open, oh"

He basically proceeds to threaten to kill her younger brother, and forces her to cut her face from the right eye to her chin.

"I took a knife and cut out her eye,

I took it home and watched it wither and die"

She calls him the devil. (Of course.) And after the assault there's whispers at the circus of a silent attacker who targets around at night.

"Oh, my reputation's kind of clouded with dirt"

Of course the family is violently traumatized, I'm sure especially Rosalie, after the attack happening at 4 AM,

"But now she sleeps with one eye open

And that's the price she'll pay."

And if you know how Florence sings, you know you can almost FEEL the rage in her voice. And I think it really screams Jeremiah in the moment of jealousy and anger.

Okay so here's an entire rundown on Runalongs because I realise I've never talked about it before, even though I love my ocs for it so much.

Okay so basically, it takes place in this cyberpunk-eque city that has some slight biopunk/ organic technology motifs and steampunk inspirations. So there's lots of neon lights, but also GMOs and gears too, and some messed up plants <3

And there's the "runalongs", seemingly mystical beings who acts as guardians for their chosen companion. They can be practically almost anything, but most of them are animals or humanoids. They're also usually very, VERY fast, and can keep up with moving vehicles easily.

So Grimshaw (AKA "Space Unicorn") is Acanthe's runalong. Acanthe is a biker too, and she usually fight crimes because this place is a little bit... off, so to speak. ;)

Also runalongs usually have names when they are first "created". It's known how a runalong is born, but they usually bond with their companion at a very early age, and "grow" and gain/ lose traits until they reach maturity, which is around the same time as humans funnily enough! Also they have their own unique abilities, and Grimshaw can teleport!
