2023 Writing/Stories Look-Forward

thanks to everyone who's read and liked and commented and tagged and sent in asks for my writing this year!

today i sat down to sketch out a vague--and definitely not set in stone plan for 2023--and I thought i'd share it with you guys, from a very high level and with the caveat that it will likely not be followed to the letter as i always inevitably bite off more than i can chew

but i lik to shoot high! lol so here's what i've got

Main goal: finishing the first draft of Nothing's Wrong with Dale and getting it all posted. this is the goal i'm most confident about and will lik, cannibalize other parts of my plan to achieve. i also have some like bonus offshoots for Dale, but those will likely get posted after the story is over and so are not part of the plan

Short Story goals: I plan to finish both Selfish (f!naga) and Free Piano: Haunted (m!spirit). I want to put out my Sci-Fi oneshot Snapped (m!alien) and the three part Seen (f!deity) - both of which i posted sneak peeks of a little while ago for that 'WIPs u didn't finish this year' ask meme.

Then it gets a little fuzzy - i'll either do two shorter 5 parts fics (both with winged monsters f&m) or one longer fic (probably Goddaughter or Quid Pro Quo - both m!demon fics), depending on what i'm feeling like for lik April-May ish. My summer fic will be about a runalong. In the fall/winter, I'll post the rest of Free Piano: Haunted and Feral (f!hellhound).

Choosing these from all my ideas was super hard, but I think i'm happy with what i picked (and all are technically subject to change).

At least, that's the plan.

As far as the short term, i plan to finish off some shorter things now (Selfish, Snapped, and Seen - idk y they all start with 'S' lol) in January. After that February and March are literally the busiest time of year for me at work and this will not be an easy busy season so I might literally post nothing (which is another reason that part of my plan is so up in the air). I will be working a minimum of 6 days a week, 55 hours a week - likely more than that so my brain will not be up for much writing during that time.

Hiatus: Last year I was able to keep posting Nothing's Wrong with Dale for some of January, but that's not going to be the case this year - putting up half of the next 4 part arc and then not finishing it until April would be unfair imo - both to you for the cliffhanger and to me because i will be able to write them far better if i write all oft he at once/in a row. So no more Dale until April, I'm afraid. The only reason I'll be able to post some of the other things at all in January is because most of them are already partially done where as next Dale is not started.

January spin-a-long plans

This is some Shetland I've been meaning to sample for maybe spinning me a sweater, so since January in the spin-a-long is about spinning singles for plying, it seemed very apt.

My plan is to spin it all as constant (and thin- that's my lightest spindle!) as possible, and see the difference between 3 and 4 ply w.r.t. weight and colour pooling and how it takes cables, but I think that should be minimal. I also like the look of a 4 ply hawser, but I have no idea how to manage that on a spindle (I will experiment! !)

Thank you Anon for thinking I am interesting but I don't know if I am comfortable with letting you put my brain under a microscope, I hope 2023 is the year I start writing bigger fics get a proper big multichapter fic going and so on, I have had quite a few new years resolutions; getting into more writing in more styles and tropes to broaden my writing palette is one of them so here is a sneak peak of some of my plans which I might not get around to some of them but want to plans for 2023 so in no particular order:

I have the Eagle shapeshifting and sky city AU which I am planning to do a fic around at some point fully based around some of my Oc's I have such as Aerdis and another Oc I have which I am going to Introduce in the AU fic.

I am currently writing my first big multichapter fic for my 1960s Space age AU set around Lindir which is Lindir x Glorfindel which I have started writing by the way 1.1K into it and planning to cross post on here and AO3. (Spoiler Alert (Not really) I make Gil-Galad own a ranch and is Lindir's father in it)

I have an Greek Mythos esque AU planned for my OC ship Winged Fire where my OC Aerdis is Apollo and My Oc Thalion is Icarus or based on the two characters.

I have a Norse Mythos based AU which is based around some of my favorite Norse Myths It would be a completion of short stories in a Norse esque setting but with OC's and Tolkien characters insted of Norse gods.

I have a Quilda in Wonderland fic in the planning based around my friends @eunoiaastralwings Oc Quildalótien and our oc's but it's really an if and a maybe to actually write and it's a one or the other between a Rapunzel Quilda fic which is also in the same stage of planning.

I Have also had recent brainrot where Lindir is Gil-Galad's kid and Gil is Fingon's kid and I may write a fic around it I'm not sure but it will be in my 1960s AU.

I am planning a Star Trek AU because my 1960s AU contains BTS of Star Trek TOS filming in it with Arwen.

Also some Valinor Oc crack is in the planning mostly evolving around short fics or incorrect quotes.

SIREN READER X LINDIR FIC i may of forgotten about maybe coming back.

A Rewrite of In my arms tonight but make it an OC x OC of you guessed it Quilda and Varya.

I also have a D&D AU which I probably won't write but I will probably write into my 1960s AU somehow but I am sorta planning to write modern d&d au at some point probably not this year though.

Time travel Lindir back to Gondolin Fic I have put off for to long

Top 3 priorities:

Requests: As always if a request comes through it is going to be my priority last year in November my request November failed as I grew busy so I ignored some requests till a month later three months since I started request gathering for it in October but I was doing an event so I pushed them off to the side.

Space Age AU: This will be my first proper multichapter fic, I really like my ideas for this fic and really like the AU so I wanna put effort into it for making it good

Eagle AU: I love my Eagle AU and yes it will be full of OC's but I think it will be interesting especially what I have planned out for it.

I haven't decided on a top five so if you want me to add two of my other plans into my top 5 priorities do let me know.

Projected 2023 Stories:

AMOK: Of Rambling Thoughts And Too Many Choices (Potential Namjoon x Reader, Seokjin x Reader, or Taehyung x Reader) - 75% written. A 2nd drabble continuing from AMOK: Of Maps, Forms, And Other Crazy Ideas, which itself is an AU of sorts based on and inspired by the wonderful and immersive series A Map of Mrs. Kims by @bonvoyagenoona . Will this be a drabble series as well? WHO KNOWS 🤣🤣 April 2023 note: done and posted here!

After It All (TENTATIVE TITLE) (Post Apocalypse!Taehyung x Reader story) - 10% written but is tabled for the foreseeable future. Post apocalyptic stories are really hard to get in the right mindset for when writing, and while I have a wonderfully haunting prologue written out, I still need to plan out the initial plot and story beats. I hope to return to this one someday. April 2023 note: Still tabled, but have an idea to intermix the written prologue into the rest of the story

Untitled Dancer!Jimin x Neighbor!Reader drabble - Unwritten, but planned. Basically a meet cute involving dance. April 2023 note: AWWW HELL I FORGOT ABOUT THIS ONE 😅😅😅 Will write as soon as my derailed thought train comes back

Untitled Dream A Little Dream (Event Planner!Taehyung x Costuming Assistant!Reader Soulmate story) - Maybe 5% written, in very early stages of writing/planning. A soulmate/coworker romance story set in a former jazz club turned event and performance space April 2023 note: finally have a title! Sadly that’s about as far as I got before I realized I didn’t have a full plot storyboarded. So it’s on the back burner until I figure out the dang plot 🤣

Another Life (Royal Mage!Jimin x Non-Magical Human!Reader, alternate dimension fantasy story) - April 2023 note: why yes, I am that person who thought of a whole entire damn fic while trying to rework other ones LOLOLOLOL But this is the main story I’m currently working on! Storyboarded and starting my first draft. It’s also my first full leap in to the fantasy genre…expect magical powers, alternate universes, and even some royal court intrigue!

There are no release dates at this time, other than I hope to have them completed and posted before December 31, 2023 🤣🤣

- oh this was a subconscious choice, but Gale is sitting in seiza which is a posture for showing respect especially to elders. it's also known to be a painful position to sit in for extended periods of time, which is why it was sometimes used as a method of (morally dubious) punishment. however, experienced people can maintain this posture for much longer. food for thought :-)

2023 plans!

2022 was not a very good year for me creatively. I didn't get as many projects finished as I wanted or attend as many events as I usually do. I took time to sit down and think about what prevented me from creating. I have the ideas, materials, everything. I realized I had become overwhelmed by my own disorganization. Going into my costume closet and sewing room only made me think of all the work I had to do to pick up and clean before I even had the space to sew. This year my goal is to get organized. I have already purchased new cabinets for costume parts, wall shelves for the sewing room, and plan on getting shelving in the basement where I keep all my fabric. It is going to be a big and expensive project, but I know having my space clean and organized will motivate me to start creating again. I am excited for 2023 and the creative possibilities!

2/16/23 update: The step 1 goal has been achieved! Pictures have been posted on my Instagram of the cleaned sewing room and costume attic! I have 2 new projects in the works that will be done in March! Keep an eye out for Harrowhark and my new fantasy dress inspired by ghostly will-o-wisps.

Another change coming next year-

I'm going to add a skirt size between the current A & B Sizes. So, A will stay the same, there will be a new smaller B, current B will become C, and C will become D. Unfortunately confusing, haha. But it will be for the best!!

Right now I feel like some people, especially those that usually wear LG, fall a bit between A & B Size skirts and don't have a perfect size for them. I think that adding a new B Size in between A & the current B will fix a lot of mid-range size issues. I'm hoping I can make adjustments so that the new lineup will be: A Size (XXS-MD), B Size (MD-XL), C Size (XL-3X), D Size (3X-6X) It's gonna be tough but worth it to deal with the change over. Wish me luck 😭👍
