“Abundant Faith: Unlocking Answers to Prayers and Finding Success in Real Estate | Jay Conner & Joe McCall”
Joe McCall is a Real Estate Investor, Creative Financing Consultant, Outsourcing & Marketing Expert.
He hosts the "Real Estate Investing Mastery Podcast" and is the author of 4 different real estate investing books.
He knows what it's like to feel stuck — like you can't get any traction when it comes to your income or lifestyle. He was there, and he knew there was another way. His life changed when he discovered real estate investing and lease options.
As a former Civil Engineer responsible for the design and build of power plants across the country, Joe McCall's superpower lies in his ability to simplify complex business processes and problems. A business owner and real estate investor for more than 10 years, Joe is a master at building a business with a “niche within a niche” mentality, using technology as the foundation for customer acquisition, sales, and deliverability.
Joe only works a few hours a week on the “deals” side of his business, while his virtual team consistently flips several deals a month – all for him, despite him.
Joe is an expert at flipping properties remotely. In the last several years, Joe has built his business in a way that has allowed him to spend months at a time traveling the world to places like Prague, Czech Republic, and 3 months traveling the northwestern part of the US in an RV, with his wife and four kids. While he traveled, he could still flip deals in 4 different markets – all remotely – all with very little of his involvement.

Documenting America Through the Eyes of Citizens
It can be all too tempting to allow oneself to get caught up in the whirlwind of mainstream media and the way it shapes our perception of reality. The constant bombardment of news, entertainment, and social media can sometimes cloud our judgment and lead us to believe that we have a complete understanding of the world around us.
However, it’s important to remember that there is often more to the story than what is presented on our screens. Taking a step back and seeking out diverse perspectives can help us gain a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the complexities of our world.
In sympathy with the above, there is a growing movement towards seeking out alternative perspectives and understanding different cultures. This is where interviewing citizens at public events such as conventions and festivals becomes significant.
By conducting interviews at these events, we are able to capture a diverse range of opinions and experiences from individuals who may not have a voice in traditional media. This is particularly valuable for younger audience members, as it allows them to see the world through different lenses and gain a deeper understanding of their surroundings.
One American filmmaker and producer, Evan Gilbert-Katz, has made it his mission to document the stories of everyday people and give them a platform to share their perspectives. Through his work for the YouTube channel “All Gas No Brakes”, he brought attention to important issues that may not receive mainstream media coverage and encouraged critical thinking amongst viewers.
“All Gas No Brakes” was a distinctive YouTube channel, distinguished by its on-the-spot interviews at major events and festivals across America. It captured the heart of events, unfiltered and raw, as they happened, connecting its viewers with the people and the atmosphere on the ground. The show’s premise was simple yet powerful — Evan Gilbert-Katz, along with the host Andrew Callaghan, traveled in a vintage RV, transformed into a mobile studio, to various events. He then conducted impromptu interviews with attendees, capturing their thoughts, reactions, and insights. These interviews, conducted amidst the hustle and bustle of the events, provided an unedited, candid, and often eye-opening perspective of American society, making “All Gas No Brakes” a unique cultural exploration tool. The channel garnered wide acclaim for its raw portrayal of diverse lifestyles, ideologies, and subcultures, offering a refreshing contrast to mainstream media narratives.
Despite the closure of the “All Gas No Brakes” channel, Evan Gilbert-Katz’s influence in the field of journalism continues unabated. The lessons he learned from his time on the channel have shaped him into a prominent figure in the realm of citizen journalism. His unique approach to interviewing, marked by unfiltered, candid discussions with people from all walks of life, provides a blueprint for others seeking to challenge the conventions of mainstream reporting.
Evan Gilbert-Katz’s work continues to inspire a generation of journalists who are disillusioned with traditional media outlets and are looking for innovative ways to present and report news. He embodies the spirit of journalism in its purest form — a relentless pursuit of truth and a commitment to giving voice to the voiceless. His work also serves as a reminder of the power of the media to shape public opinion, and the responsibility that comes with it to mediate extreme views.
Even in the face of the channel’s discontinuation, Evan Gilbert-Katz continues to play a critical role in advocating for alternative perspectives in media. He remains committed to his mission of giving a platform to the unheard and underrepresented, ensuring that their stories are not lost amidst the noise of mainstream narratives. His tenacity and dedication to his craft is a testament to the enduring power of citizen journalism in documenting the complexities of American life.
One important lesson learned is the significance of documenting not only the broader narratives and opinions of the American public but also the need to address extreme views when they are shared on platforms like YouTube. While it is crucial to showcase diverse perspectives for a comprehensive understanding, it is equally important to present information responsibly and in a balanced manner. This approach helps prevent the perpetuation of harmful stereotypes and the dissemination of misinformation, ultimately fostering a more informed and inclusive society.
Documenting America — and indeed any nation — through the eyes of citizens is a valuable way to gain insight into different cultures and perspectives. By conducting interviews at public events and giving marginalized voices a platform, journalists can challenge mainstream narratives and promote empathy and understanding amongst audiences. It’s essential for us as consumers of media to seek out alternative perspectives and be critical of the information presented to us. In doing so, we can broaden our horizons and learn from one another, creating a more informed society.
Understanding broader opinions through methods like citizen interviews can lead to a more well-rounded comprehension of the perceived troubles of the public. When we engage with a wide array of perspectives, we become more aware of the pressing issues that are often overlooked by mainstream narratives. The very essence of these interviews lies in their ability to reveal the undercurrents of societal concerns, bringing to light the shared experiences, fears, aspirations, and challenges of the public. By lending our ears to these stories, we not only foster empathy and tolerance but also equip ourselves with the knowledge required to address these issues effectively. This allows us to move towards a society that is not just informed but also understanding and responsive to its diverse constituents.

A Look at our Trailer
When we first set out on the road in 3/2020, we owned an Escape 5.0TA. We had purchased this trailer just prior to realizing full time travel could be a reality. After some research, we did see that people do live full time in their Escapes, so we decided to give it a try. In December 2019, we had the trailer pretty much fully loaded with what we knew we were going to take with us, and went to the scales to have it weighed. We were somewhat dismayed that we were already overweight for its designed GVWR. So we had to make a decision. We went to the RV show in the Tacoma Dome in January of 2020, and put down some money on an Arctic Fox 27-5L. It seemed the perfect size, a lot of amenities but not too huge, and had a pretty big cargo capacity. After some pondering later in the year, we decided we wanted a washer/dryer combo and upped our purchase to the next model up, a 29-5T. We are so glad we did, it’s been excellent and perfect for our lifestyle.
I’ve migrated our other videos from YouTube to GabTV. I think Gab is a great platform and trying to help out in establishing its presence where possible.
Take a look at some other videos on our channel.

Best RV Mattress: Top RV Bloggers Give Their Tips
Choosing the best RV Mattress?
Most people are used to having a regular and “safe” life. What do they mean by safe? Having a steady job, living in a nice home, paying bills, taxes, mortgage and just being a regular guy. The reality is that nothing is safe or granted anymore. You can do all the right things, and still get fired, lose your home because you can’t afford the mortgage and a bazillion other stuff can happen and radically disrupt the routine of your life.
That is why more and more people choose to seize the moment and live their life to the fullest. They sell their house, buy an RV and travel across the country in their home on wheels. Being able to travel wherever you want, whenever you want is an awesome lifestyle. Although we are sure that RVing brings its fair part of adventures and challenges, we wonder how comfortable is to live full-time in an RV.
A good night’s sleep is a must have after a long day. When you don’t live in a brick and mortar house, then you need to pay extra attention to the bed and mattress that you buy, especially when space is limited. That is why, we asked 39 RV bloggers to share with us
The Top Features That The Best RV Mattress Should Have
We received answers from some of the best digital nomads out there. So, without any further ado, let’s see what are the best RV mattress.
Peter & John TheRVgeeks.com
Peter & John, better known as The RVgeeks, are a couple of “Do-It-Ourselves” full-time RVers who offer RV maintenance, repair & travel tips on their popular video blog and YouTube channel. They’ve handled most of their own RV maintenance during nearly 14 years of exploring North America. They hope their experiences can help other RVers go DIY, saving time & money while experiencing the satisfaction of a job well done.
It may sound obvious, but comfort is key. While a non-RVer may look at the way we live as glorified camping… as full-timers, our RV is our home. So we expect our bed to be just as comfortable as any residential bed. We’re not “camping” but rather living in our home, the same as any owner of a sticks & bricks house, and expect the same comfort in a mattress.
That’s the case even in large RVs where the ample space allows for any size mattress. Despite that flexibility, RVs are notorious for having odd-size mattresses. So the ability to order custom sizes, with the same comfort as a top quality residential mattress, is a great benefit. As mattress “comfort” is such a personal preference, the option of selecting from several different types of mattresses to match our particular idea of comfort was key to our goal of one great night’s sleep after another.
Emily and Mark Fagan Roads Less Traveled
Emily and Mark Fagan are professional photographers and freelance writers who have been traveling full-time by RV and sailboat for ten years. Their blog, Roads Less Traveled, offers hundreds of detailed articles about the RVing and sailing lifestyles and provides travel tips and beautiful photos of their favorite destinations.
As we discuss in our blog post, RVing Tips and Tricks, many RVs come with beds that are not a standard residential size. So, for those RVs, the mattress must be a custom “RV” size or it will hang over the edges of the bed platform.
For instance, a standard Queen mattress is 60” x 80” while an RV Queen is the same width but is a bit shorter at 60” x 75”. Likewise, a King mattress is 76” x 80” whereas an RV King mattress is a little narrower at 72” x 80”.
Finding an RV Queen or RV King size mattress is nearly impossible at most mattress stores unless they are located in an area that has a lot of RV visitors. Putting a residential Queen mattress on an RV Queen bed leaves 5” of mattress hanging over the foot of the bed. Putting a residential King mattress on an RV King bed can be a tight squeeze, as 2” will hang over the base on each side.
As for comfort, that depends on the sleeper! There are fewer options in the RV-specific sizes, but if the RV has a bed platform that is a standard residential mattress size, then the sky is the limit for all types of mattresses.
A foam mattress can be much heavier than an innerspring mattress, and that may make a difference for RVs that are carrying a payload that is near their capacity.
However, foam mattress doesn’t have any parts that rust, a concern if you are RVing in a humid area, as the interiors of RVs are much less climate controlled than the interiors of houses, especially for people who dry camp a lot like we do.
Mildew resistance is also very important for RVers who travel in areas prone to rain or seaside moisture. Memory foam is extremely flammable, and since all RVs come with large propane tanks that can turn the rig into a fire bomb with a single spark in the wrong place at the wrong time, this is a definite concern.
Memory foam can also be very hot, an issue for many RVing women who are experiencing the hot flashes and night sweats of menopause.
Given all of these constraints, we had a latex mattress for nearly four years and we found it was not nearly as comfortable as advertised. We’ve also had a memory foam pillow top innerspring mattress and a standard non-memory foam pillowtop innerspring mattress.
Both of these were comfortable, although the springs lost their spring over time and the mattresses developed two divots where we always slept. Of course, this is a problem for folks living in houses too!
Kimberly Travaglino Fulltime Families
Kimberly Travaglino is the author of “How to Hit the Road”, a comprehensive step-by-step guide for making your family’s full-time RV dreams a reality. She and her husband are the co-founders of  Fulltime Families, a company that supports risk-takers, pioneers, and enlightened families blazing their own path across the country.
In my opinion, the best mattress to provide a good night’s sleep in an RV is it’s ability to breath.
Sleeping spaces in an RV can be tight and a mattress that traps heat can keep you tossing and turning and sweating all night long.
Marc and Julie Bennett RVLove
Marc and Julie Bennett are full-time RVers and content creators who live, work and travel full-time from their motorhome while exploring North America and the world. They share their positive, inspiring messages and invaluable advice at RVLove.com where their mission is to help others hit the road and thrive too.
For us, the best mattress has to be a good quality brand that will last for at least 5 years, as we don’t just use it on occasional weekends like many RVers.
As full-timers, this is our home and we sleep on the mattress every night, which means it’s essential that it’s supportive and comfortable to ensure we get a good night’s sleep and also minimize Marc’s lower back pain.
We like a mattress that offers good all round, consistent support (not too hard yet not too soft) and has a heat dissipating memory foam topper. A good protective cover to prevent dust or allergies should be standard.
And it also has to be the right height, length, and width to properly fit on the bed in an RV (ours is a standard full-length Queen) but some RVs do require special sized mattresses.
The other consideration is weight – RVs are more limited in weight than homes, so while we do like a quality, supportive mattress, we also don’t want to carry more weight than is necessary.
Finally, the mattress needs to have some flex as you need to think about getting in through the door of your RV and maneuver it through a smaller as you get into the bedroom.
Cameron RVingPlanet.com
Cameron is an RV Writing Enthusiast who has been camping and RVing for years. He has always loved the smell of campfire smoke and taking long hikes through some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes.
An RV mattress is your comforting sanctuary after a long day of outdoor adventuring or endless miles on the road. Because of that, it needs to be held to a standard that is befitting of those conditions. What are the top qualities of an RV mattress?
1. Comfort – It should go without saying that a bed should be comfortable. But, it goes beyond that; you don’t want to be on the road and have to toss and turn every night, trying to fall asleep and have dreams of your bed back home. An RV trip is a vacation of sorts, so the bed should reflect that level of comfort every night.
Memory foam is a great option for an RV mattress because it is lightweight, inexpensive, and can occupy very little space, which, of course, is the currency of any RV. That said…
2. Size  You need the size to accommodate your size. If you’re a six-foot-five man, then you will want to avoid those space-cutting RV mattresses.Keep in mind that most RV mattresses are about six inches shorter than traditional mattresses of the same size category. So, if you’re worried about fitting on a queen, you might consider going ahead with a king. And, finally…3. Durability – An RV mattress undergoes considerable wear-and-tear; even more so than a traditional at-home mattress. Because of this, you want your RV mattress to be outfit to survive long or short trips of considerably excessive use. A good RV mattress needs to withstand the test of time while being subjective to strenuous use for potentially long periods of time.
Mark Jenney RVshare.com
Mark is the CEO at RVshare which is the largest RV rental marketplace in the United States. Most RV mattresses are not memory foam so I always bring a nice memory foam mattress topper with me anytime I’m traveling in an RV for an extended period of time.I like my mattress to have some support and softness at the same time and using a memory foam topper on my RV mattress helps be get a better night sleep while I’m out on the road.
Dan and Diann Bayes EccentricNomads.com
Diann and her husband Dan travel and live in an RV. They share their experiences on their site Eccentric Nomads. Before that, Diann worked in the travel and tourism industry for more than 20 years.
When you make the decision to sell everything you own including your large home and replace it with a 400 square foot RV, you learn a few things along the way. Unfortunately, some revelations come a little too late, like maybe it would have been a good idea to keep that relatively new pillow-top mattress you sold with your oversized bedroom set and put that puppy in your house on wheels.
My husband and I are not spring chickens. He’s 67 and I’m 52 and we’re known as Eccentric Nomads. The name was determined by the looks we got from friends and family when we told them I was leaving my job to see the country in our fifth wheel. Not long into our travels, this eccentric nomad’s back problem reared its ugly head.
After much research and the very convincing comments from a total stranger stating a four-inch memory foam mattress topper from Walmart was more comfortable than his $4,000 mattress, I headed to the retail giant and we slapped it on top of the pitiful excuse for a mattress the dealership provided.
Is it perfect? No. But when you’ve watched the sunrise and the sunset, traveled the countryside, and enjoyed some of the most amazing sites you’ve ever seen, settling in for the evening on four inches of memory foam comfort works for me.

Micki Denis prepares the bed in the car she lives in at Lake Washington United Methodist Church’s parking lot in Kirkland, Wash., on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019.  Lindsey Wasson, for the Deseret News SALT LAKE CITY — When Micki Denis first moved to Seattle, she tried to find a studio apartment she could afford — nothing fancy, just a warm room for sleeping and a small kitchen so she could have her son over for dinner. Instead, the mother of five and grandmother of 14 is sleeping in her car, a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. She is not alone. Each night, Denis shares a parking lot outside a Methodist church with as many as 50 cars, vans and trucks, some housing entire families. In the morning, kids spill out and go into the church to get ready for school. But Denis — the 64-year-old cousin of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and sister of a Nevada state senator — wakes up each day in disbelief that this is her life now. She lived in nice homes for decades, until her divorce in 2003. From 2005-07, she served a mission in Florida and El Salvador for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Just last summer, she traveled around Europe. Coming from Utah, where despite rising rental costs Denis could live on a variety of part-time jobs — like being an interpreter for a school district and a cafeteria cashier at her church’s Salt Lake Temple — she was shocked by the Seattle-area housing market. She found a part-time job to supplement a pension and Social Security, but it’s not enough. “I thought I could get something for about $700, a nice studio, but I can’t. I don’t know what’s going on here,” Denis said. What’s going on is that low- to moderate-income Americans who don’t own their own homes are being hammered by skyrocketing rents, stagnant wages and a shortage of affordable housing. Applicants for subsidized housing face years on a waiting list. Those in need of emergency shelter find beds are often full while people sleep in the streets. No state has an adequate supply of affordable rental housing, according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, which recently released a report that examined the increasing gap between wages and rent. The coalition found that rental costs are rising faster than wages, and that, on average, a worker earning the federal minimum wage would have to work 103 hours a week to afford a one-bedroom apartment. In some communities, it’s worse than that. In King County, where Denis now lives, a worker needs an income of more than $62,000 to afford a one-bedroom apartment, compared to $46,548 for all of Washington state, the report said. This has driven Denis and thousands of other Americans to live in their vehicles, many of them from vulnerable groups like children and seniors. This solves one problem but creates others — like where to park at night and how to maintain hygiene. Cities and municipalities where they stay face unsavory choices. Should they accommodate the “vehicular homeless” with relaxed laws and safe parking lots, or try to legislate them away? California is considering legislation that would require its largest cities to provide parking for people living in their vehicles. But in the meantime, faith groups and nonprofits are stepping up to help, even when neighbors say “not on my street.” ‘Completely un-affordable’ As darkness envelops the parking lot at Lake Washington United Methodist Church in Kirkland, Washington, a suburb of Seattle, Denis prepares for another cold evening near Crissy Norton, a mother of three who has two vehicles in which to house her family. Norton, who is 26, is here at the church’s “safe lot” with her common-law husband, Matt, and their girls, who are 6, 3 and 1. They sleep in two vehicles: a Honda they own and a Ford F-150 truck they borrowed from a friend. They also have a Volkswagen Jetta that doesn’t run, but is good for storing clothes, blankets and toys. The family’s troubles began when Matt lost his job just before Christmas in 2017. “We struggled for a year to pay rent with odd jobs, but finding him one was tough. Last Christmas, we finally couldn’t do it and got evicted. We stayed with some friends in the winter, but come summer, we had to leave, and since then, it has been truck living,” Crissy Norton said. The family’s struggles, however, have been a little easier thanks to a ministry of Lake Washington United Methodist Church, a 200-member congregation that decided in 2011 to put its often-empty parking lot to good use. The church established a “Safe Parking” zone where people can sleep in their vehicles without fear of being harassed, interrogated or ordered to move. Volunteers come to the church early in the morning so school-aged children can come inside and get ready for school, and again in the evening, so “guests” can use bathroom facilities and the church’s kitchen and phone. The guests also have access to a refrigerator and Wi-Fi. They are welcome to join church activities but don’t have to do so. Karina O’Malley, a church member and volunteer who oversees the program, said the church started small, with six parking spaces, but as the program has grown, they’ve had up to 50 vehicles parked overnight. The demand exists, she says, because rent prices in the county are “completely unaffordable.” Moreover, the gap between wages and rent is expected to worsen in the coming years, according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition. “The median-wage worker in eight of the nation’s 10 largest occupations, including retail salespersons, fast food workers, personal care aides, customer service representatives, and office clerks, do not earn enough to afford a modest one-bedroom rental home,” the coalition’s report says, adding, “The number of low-wage jobs is expected to grow significantly in the next 10 years.” This means that many people like Denis, despite having a steady income and a job, either can’t afford to rent a place, or if they could, would have nothing left over for utilities and food. And sleeping in a car is more appealing to some people than going to a homeless shelter. Some are uncomfortable with the stigma; others don’t want to abide by a shelter’s schedule or prefer the privacy of their car. Moreover, deciding to live in a car provides people with few options a sense of autonomy. “There’s a tiny minority who say I’m choosing to live in my car because that’s the only solution that works for me at this point. But most of these folks are desperately trying to get back into housing,” O’Malley, at Lake Washington UMC, said. “Folks don’t have a lot of great options, but there’s a sense of dignity that comes with saying what you’re doing is your choice.” A painful secret Denis, a native of Cuba who came to the U.S. with her parents when she was 5, had no experience renting for most of her life. From age 18 through 50, she had always lived in homes that she owned. Her five children, ages 33 to 45, are well off enough to help, but Denis doesn’t want to impose, which is why she hasn’t told them where she’s living been living since the middle of July. She said she figures she’ll need help when she is in her 70s or older and doesn’t want to tap that reservoir of goodwill while she’s still healthy and able to work. “I haven’t asked my children for help. I haven’t told a soul,” she said, adding that even her brother, a Nevada state senator and former LDS bishop, doesn’t know. “I want to fix this problem on my own,” she said, her voice breaking. Denis traveled Europe cheaply between April and October of last year, staying in hostels and LDS temple housing, and so when she returned to the U.S. for a grandchild’s baptism, she thought she could live equally well here while maintaining her mobility. But that hasn’t been the case, at least not in the Pacific Northwest. “Even if I pay $1,100 (in rent), that leaves me with hardly anything for gas, for food, for insurance. And the housing that I could afford is in places that aren’t nice. I can’t do that. I’m safer here,” she said. Denis is working as a cashier, so she has a place to go during the day. She has a membership at the YMCA, where she goes to swim, do yoga and shower, and she also spends time at the local library. At night, she stretches out on a foam mattress in the back of her Toyota and covers herself with a down comforter. Since she’s a half-inch shy of 5 feet tall, sleeping in the car isn’t so bad, Denis said, except for when she needs to go to the bathroom at night. The church provides port-a-potties, but she doesn’t like to leave her car at night, especially now that it’s cold. (When it’s 32 degrees or colder, the church lets people sleep inside, but it hasn’t gotten that cold yet this fall.) That said, she knows she has it better than some of her parking-lot neighbors. “There are women here who never leave their car,” she said. What cities can do At the other end of the spectrum is Bob Wells, founder of the Cheap RV Living website and its corresponding YouTube channel, which has 339,000 subscribers. Wells, the author of “How to Live in a Car, Van or RV,” promotes what he calls “nomadic tribalism in a car, van or RV,” and his followers include people trying to get out of debt and those who embrace a minimalist lifestyle. Because Wells is so well-known, he’s been approached by some government officials about how cities and towns can best address the challenges presented by vehicle dwellers, the most pressing of which is where they can park and where they can dispose of waste. He urges cities to build a cooperative relationship with vehicle dwellers, provide parking and portable restroom facilities, and even a place where people can go to get temporary work. Such things would produce big results for a little money. “They’re going to have happier residents, and they’re not going to be dumping their tanks or sleeping outside people’s homes.” But some cities are doubling down on enforcement to try to get the car dwellers to go elsewhere. In July, police in Fort Collins, Colorado, issued tow notices and tickets to more than two dozen people camping in their cars, the Coloradoan reported. And San Diego has enacted a new “vehicle habitation ordinance” that prohibits people from sleeping in their cars near residences and schools. At the same time, however, the city has expanded a Safe Parking Program that it operates in conjunction with Jewish Family Service of San Diego. Pamela C. Twiss, a professor at California University of Pennsylvania and co-author of “The Homelessness Industry, a Critique of U.S. Social Policy,” said she applauds cities and faith groups that are expanding safe parking. “A car is obviously not a suitable home, but using a car for sheer survival shouldn’t be criminalized,” Twiss said. “People have to have ways to survive, and we don’t have enough shelter spaces for those who need emergency shelter.” She also noted that there is a multiyear waiting list for subsidized housing in much of the the U.S. “We’re only serving about one-quarter of those who are eligible on an income-basis,” which means that three-quarters of people who qualify for government assistance won’t get it, Twiss said. And there aren’t enough emergency shelters, either. The National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty estimates that there are 286,203 emergency shelter beds available for the 553,000 people who need them. ‘Not a solution’ Teresa Smith, founder and CEO of a San Diego nonprofit that helps the homeless, said groups that offer safe parking often are approached by people who are living in their cars happily but need a place to park for a few days. “I can’t tell you how many calls we get from people who want to urban camp,” she said. Smith’s organization, Dreams for Change, runs two safe-parking lots with a capacity of 30 to 35 vehicles, but they’re always full, and there’s a waiting list, so they can only accept people with the most urgent need, she said. Also, Dreams for Change only accepts people who are actively looking for housing. “This is not a lifestyle for them; it’s a transition, and their goal is to move back into housing.” Conversely, at Lake Washington United Methodist, the safe-parking lot is open to people to anyone living in a vehicle, whether or not they’re looking for housing. Crissy Norton, the mother of three, has been actively searching and just found out last week that she and her husband have qualified for traditional shelter. She hopes to be in apartment with her children within a few weeks. Denis, however, remains uncertain of her plans. Unwilling to ask her family for help and reluctant to move from Seattle, she believes her car is her only option right now. Hers is a situation that an increasing number of seniors are facing, said Smith at Dreams for Change. Smith said that 15-20% of the people living in their cars on Dreams for Change lots are 58 and older, and 20% are families with kids. And while most safe parking programs are on the West Coast, she said she has been contacted by people in North Carolina, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Colorado about how they can start similar programs there. “It’s clearly not just a California issue. The problem is growing, very much so,” Smith said, adding that safe-parking lots are “not a solution, by any means.” “But they’re at least something that helps.” And Denis and Norton said it’s been good to be surrounded by other people in the same situation, and they’ve made friends there. In fact, for other people contemplating turning their car into a residence, Norton says it’s critically important to have a community of support. “Don’t do it alone,” she said. “Make friends. Never, ever let yourself be alone.”   Over and over I keep hearing discouraging stories like this throughout our state and others. Written by Mike Harris on The Prepper Journal.
The purpose of this article is not to share some ultra secret get rich scheme, or to tell you how to invest your capital. It’s not even going to help you to be better with your money. The purpose of this article is to share the truth about the economic paradigm in which all industrial nations of our world keep their economies afloat, things we should be aware of for our planning.  If you have not read part 1 (http://www.theprepperjournal.com/2017/08/10/truth-bartering-part-1/) in this series I highly recommend you do it, it’s a great segue into all the topics that will be discussed herein.
Why does money really matter in preparedness?
Overall money is a very taboo topic to talk about yet it has such a huge impact in our everyday lives. Whether you’re the President and real estate money Mongol Donald J. Trump or the penny-pinching college kid couch surfing on AIRBNB money (fiat currency paradigm) has huge and lasting effects on us all. Don’t believe me, why is the number one reason for divorce and suicide in this nation related to finances? Why is the average college student indebted over $60,000? Why is it that so many people require social welfare programs? How many people in this nation are really financial free (debt free)? The unfortunate truth is as a nation and as individuals we are severely addicted to credit! We spend money we don’t have to live the lifestyle we are told we must have in order to be accepted by an unsustainable, ignorant, self-loathing, wicked and mental ill society. Yes, I believe it’s about time we get serious and have an honest discussion about the fiat currency system in which we are forced to live.
What is Fiat Currency and why is it important?
Nations, governments, localities, even tribes have, throughout history, implemented official mediums of exchange. Mediums of exchange are vital to a growing society and are highly sought after due to their economic dependency and accurate calculation in the pretense of value. This is largely due to the fact that using a medium of exchange (money) does not mean transactions will happen instantaneously. It means it is important that the “official currency” holds it’s worth; it’s dependability, which gives it “stored value” which is a necessity for any growing or already established economic system (macro or micro). So in order to establish a medium of exchange that is not only accepted by all parties but is clearly and definitely defined in respect to a unit of measure (stored value) it usually requires an authority of force to mandate such requirements. So when a government simply declares a medium of exchange that, of it self, has no intrinsic value as holding value to use as a medium of exchange, we call this fiat. A great example of this is if you were to look at the back of a US Federal Reserve note (which is not a government agency by the way) you will see the phrase “legal tender for all debts, public and private.” Simply put this means if someone is selling something and you “tender” (offer the official government implemented “medium of exchange” aka money) you have legally paid, regardless if the seller accepts the currency. This is in effect how worthless pieces of colored paper can become a “stored value” by which billions of people worldwide dedicate their lives in order to attain as much of it as possible at all costs. Given such, the nature of mankind’s struggle and its willingness to exploit, intimidate, destroy and even murder in order to obtain a greater “stored value” really speaks to the testament of man’s heart.
Why is money good?
Fiat Currency is actually very convenient and without equivocation has been essential in the quick and rapid progression of our societies. The simple truth is money can do things that barter and commodities simply can’t due. It is really hard to imagine a society in which there is no medium of exchange because the truth is without it I (the average middle class American man) wouldn’t even have access to a computer if such thing even existed. So here is just a couple of ways money is “good”:
Acts as a medium of exchange
Allows transactions to occur bilaterally
Is the quickest and most convenient way of having stored value
Universally accepted
Convenience of taking unlimited amounts on one’s person
It’s important to know this is not an exhaustive list but it does show how important a medium of exchange is not only to our economic system, but also to the everyday person. The ability of one to engage in commerce with another without the use of complicated multifaceted programs or even computerized bartering systems is huge. Being able to have stored value physically or digitally or any combination of the two is unprecedented. Given the negative connotations (rightfully so) that is associated with the fiat currency system it should be noted with all it’s flaws it does allow billions of people worldwide to live the progressive existences they do.
Why is money bad? This really goes without saying but for context sake I will quickly deliver here. Money in and of its self is not bad, as with any tool or medium used by humans it’s the intent and how it’s used that determines the morality of the outcome. However in the fiat currency system we can see and conceptualize the bigger problem.  This being that market forces have the ability to not only weaken the power of the dollar but also systematically destroy it overnight. The fact that bad deals on Wall Street (ex. 2008 Stock market crash) can degrade the power of the dollar while simultaneously voiding a “30 year in the making” 401k-retirement plan of a steel worker in Ohio isn’t just troubling but the textbook definition of a nightmare. Some quick facts: the 2008 stock market crash destroyed $16.4 trillion of American households’ net worth from 2007 through 2009, it wiped out more than $2 trillion of Americans’ retirement savings.
“Gold has intrinsic value. The problem with the dollar is it has no intrinsic value. And if the Federal Reserve is going to spend trillions of them to buy up all these bad mortgages and all other kinds of bad debt, the dollar is going to lose all of its value. Gold will store its value, and you’ll always be able to buy more food with your gold.”-  Peter Schiff (American investment broker, investor, author, financial commentator, and radio personality. CEO of Euro Pacific Capital Inc.).
Conclusion
There are no bright outcomes that come from runaway fiat currency paradigms. The middle class is and has always been affected the most by economic flares. In order to be prepared one must be understanding of the variables in economics and how they affect the stored value one currently possesses. While its great to have a system by which one can have stored value that is universally accepted and easy to take anywhere. And a system by which an unlimited number of transactions can occur bilaterally and consecutively. It is important to realize that while this is how we as a society have been able to live our lives and even acquire perceived financial wealth, it is an extremely unsustainable economic design. Based upon science, mathematics, and well documented history, fiat currencies always fail. No matter what perspective you take on economics I believe this is a very unfaltering universal truth we can all agree upon. Money is nonaligned and dispassionate. Money amplifies ones moral compass, it doesn’t create it. If you live un-sustainabley now with little wealth, you would as well if you were a million dollars richer.  At some point we must come to realization that unsustainable means just that “UNSUSTAINABLE”!  So given that truth what will you do with your fiat currency today?
