RWBY Ship Headcannons #75: Gauntlets and Greaves

They're very much a hot and cold couple. Pun fully intended. Either they're able to relax and go on normal-person dates, or they have to spar in the backyard to blow off steam.

Merc is a very talented mechanic and Yang knows quite a bit of engineered thanks to learning her arm's upkeep. I'm considering keeping Aura and Semblances to some degree, but making them rare. Also considering just getting rid of them entirely. Not sure which path to go with, but I don't expect Aura to have much of an effect on the story.

Likewise I'm thinking weapons will be a lot less common, and a good bit more mundane generally speaking. Jaune will still have Crocea Mors as a family heirloom for example, but he'll have even less training than he had in Canon.

Neo is a speedrunner. Her reactions to achievements are... Remarkably bombastic for a streamer without a mic.

I've got a bunch of weird ass ships in mind, some of which... Don't actually have names to my knowledge. Like seriously, has anyone done Pyrrha x Whitley? Because I'm planning to.

Gauntlets and Greaves, because I read "Tell Your Lemons to Fuck Off" on Ao3 and it was fucking awesome.

Lancaster, but it's initially platonic with them married purely for the tax benefits. This situation does not last.

I've had a weird amount of ideas for Hololive crossovers that make sense.

What are your thoughts about Emercury as a ship?

I can see the appeal! These two are written as a duo, so naturally they bounce off each other very well in every scene they're in (which are mostly shared), but by themselves I think they can be a bit more explored. It's quite the double-edged sword when it comes to intended pairs in this show, because while they work fantastically together, individually they fall very short narratively. Renora is another pairing with this problem, but they're worse off tbh.

But back to the ship, I can see why people like them; Emerald uses her Semblance to aid Mercury in combat, and Mercury on multiple occasions acts as her voice of reason especially regarding Cinder. Their dynamic is probably one of the best things RWBY got going on, and sadly I don't think it will last with how they're writing them right now.

That being said, I'm not an Emercury shipper. I like them more platonically than romantically, and I'm more of a Gauntlets and Greaves shipper anyway. I also ship Emerald WLW, so there's that lol. All the powers to Emercury shippers, you have to make your own food now.

I don’t ship Knightshade (Lancaster shipper) but I find it both funny and a bit cute because it says Blake is exclusively attracted to blondes and decided to choose Jaune over everyone else. Honestly? Probably Ladybug is the closest that comes to that for me. I don't actively ship it, but I fnd it charming and cute when i see it. Most other ships I'm either actively against (eg. Bees, WR, Renora, lancaster, white knight, emberald), don't care about (eg. arkos, emercury, nuts & dolts), don't trust 90% of fndm to handle with care (eg. monochrome, pretty much any Ilia ship), or that I'm a hardcore shipper of (eg. Freezerburn, Gauntlets & Greaves, Taiqrow).
