Round 1
Kell wore a very peculiar coat. It had neither one side, which would be conventional, nor two, which would be unexpected, but several, which was, of course, impossible.
-A Darker Shade of Magic, V.E. Schwab
If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth.
-The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger
The sky above the port was the colour of television, tuned to a dead channel.
-Neuromancer, William Gibson

Propaganda why Rand al'Thor is insufferable:
He’s poorly written, is given enough plot armor to equip an army, gets three girls, and only gets less likable as he gets more powerful
He shapes the fates of those around him and is the specialest person in the world, currently. And he never stops whining about it. He's also constantly wandering into obvious traps and trusting people who are just walking red flags.
He's like the specialist guy around and is constantly whining about it.
Propaganda why Holden Caulfield is insufferable:
He is obnoxious and sexist and I can't enjoy any of the good things about the book because his narration makes me hate him so much. He's the main character of one of the most popular books of all time and I've never met anyone who liked him, even if they didn't hate him. Made me so upset that I genuinely planned on tearing my copy of the book up. Only reason I didn't is because I forgot to.
Man I just don't like him
He’s whiny and annoying
We all read it back in high school
Everyone is a phoney but him. Whiny, dramatic, egotistical kid.
I had to read this book in high school and I despised holden the whole time. I found his constant complaining and judging people super annoying.
Anti propaganda

UNRELIABLE NARRATORS; SIDE C
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Holden Caulfield Propaganda (TW; referenced suicidal thoughts) :
what do you mean "you're having a mental breakdown" or "you're self sabagoting yourself" or "holden you really got to stop talking about killing yourself." phony.
Nick Carraway Propaganda:
Nick describes himself as being “one of the few honest people I have ever known.” His need to describe himself this way makes the reader question how much Nick can actually be trusted. (Not all that much...remember that he has been dating several girls in Minnesota potentially at the same time? And he's also unreliable because of his fondness for Gatsby, which is contrasted by his clear distaste for the other characters in the book. He sees Gatsby as a symbol of hope, which makes his perspective biased.)
Biased in favor of Gatsby (gay)
Minimises Gatsby's shittyness bc he's in love with him. Minimises his own part in events that lead to Gatsby's death. Cheating is fine if you are really really in love??
He starts the book by saying he’s unbiased but is biased throughout the whole thing. He spends the book continually judging his cousins husband Tom but excuses when his friend Gatsby does the exact same things. He describes Gatsby as different from the other rich people around him, but Gatsby does the same stuff everyone else is (to an arguably worse degree).

Only vote if you have read the book or read my posts about it so much that you know it quite well. Don’t just pick your favorite work out of these. You can look at what me and others have said about these comparisons in their respective tags.
I am sure that I am forgetting someone with how many characters I have compared to her over the years, so you can use the “Other” option liberally. The character you liken to her doesn’t have to be from another literary work, all the ones I have picked except Noriko are from literary works but you can pick “Other” if you liken her to a character from TV shows, films or games too.
I didn’t put “Snow White” since I liken her story to this fairy tale in an archetypal sense, I don’t think that there is a character similarity.
Please explain your reasoning for the options you choose.
I must say that I am quite excited about this poll.
