recently been thinking a lot about how i’ve got this strange impulse to hold back the appeal of the things i create, like i’m saving it for later or showing restraint somehow but that’s not really how it works, is it? there’s no such thing as cool stuff you haven’t made

i’m truly curious how the relationship the players have with tarzan is going to look after this… like he really showed them just how little he cares and trusts his players

Water 7 was like specifically engineered to hit on every single sensitive spot Usopp has and honestly he almost under-reacted with how nuts the circumstances were for the moment that he snapped:
1. They just came off a fight where Aokiji knocked them around like it was nothing, where he had this realization:

So he’s going in already feeling super inadequate, more than he usually does (which is a lot already).
2. Relatedly, up to this point fixing the Merry was his job because they didn’t have a shipwright yet. Her being unfixable probably felt, to him, like a personal failing because he was the one in charge of fixing her
3. The Merry was most like another crew member to him because he’s the one who worked on her most, AND he was the only one who saw her klabautermann at this point
4. The big elephant in the room here is that Kaya was the one who gave them Merry. So, you know, he’s attached to her most for this reason too
5. There’s also the fact that this probably hit on the very specific trauma of his mother’s death, because she also got sick enough that everyone deemed her unsavable.
6. On top of all that, it also hit on his trauma regarding his dad and abandonment: he doesn’t want to repeat that and feel like he abandoned a crew member who needed him.
7. Speaking of abandonment, seeing a situation where, in his mind, the crew leaves someone behind who is now deemed useless probably touched on a lot of his own fears about his place on his crew and own perceived usefulness
8. He had also just been brutally beaten twice on the same day and is pretty badly injured, compounding both feelings of usefulness and aligning him with the merry in his mind in terms of physical state.
9. He had also just lost the money they needed to fix the Merry, again compounding the feeling that he was useless AND he was responsible for the Merry not being fixable
10. He woke up to the crew, who had already processed the news, telling him about it AND that a decision had been made, which made him feel like it was a him vs them thing
There’s probably more I think but yes, it is completely unsurprising that he fell apart so spectacularly

No Kinn, that isn't a dumb question!
I would also like to know how you waltzed into the minor family compound, to the upper floors, with bandages sticking out of your shirt!
And also how Vegas keeps showing up at the main family compound with no advanced notice, to chat up your bodyguard!
Are the families just allowed to come and go as they please? Does anyone even make a report when they show up?
Or are Kinn and Vegas just very good at sneaking past all the guards that are (presumably) watching the perimeters?
Hell, let's make it a poll:

Self Sabotage and Perseverance
Self-sabotage is a common pattern that many people struggle with. It is often linked to our fear of being hurt, based on prior experiences, which can lead us to make choices that ultimately prevent us from achieving our goals. Whether it’s in our personal or professional lives, self-sabotage can have a significant impact on our ability to succeed.
The fear of being hurt is a natural human emotion that results from past experiences. It can lead us to avoid taking risks, trying new things, or putting ourselves out there. For example, if we have been hurt in a past relationship, we may struggle to trust others in the future, leading us to sabotage potential new relationships by keeping our distance or pushing people away.
Self-sabotage is not limited to relationships either. It can show up in our work lives too. Goals that we set for ourselves are impacted by prior experiences that have caused pain. If we have failed at work in the past, we may feel unworthy or incapable of achieving our current career goals.
The problem with self-sabotage is that it can become a pattern that is repeated over and over again so unaware. We become stuck in a loop, making self-defeating decisions that ultimately lead to more pain and frustration.
To break free from self-sabotage, we need to challenge ourselves to see things from a different perspective. It is important to be introspective and understand the underlying emotions that are driving our actions. It requires taking the time to self-reflect and get to the root cause of our fears.
Healing is another important step that we need to take to overcome self-sabotage. It can be hard to move forward from our past experiences, but acknowledging and accepting them is an essential part of the healing process. We must be willing to seek HONEST help and support, whether it be through therapy, counseling, or simply talking with friends and family.
It’s not enough to only be open about our struggles; we must also make a conscious effort not to make others suffer because of it. When we are caught up in our own emotional turmoil, it’s easy to become self-focused and not consider how our actions might impact those around us. We must strive to be mindful of how our behavior affects others and take responsibility for our actions.
Self-sabotage is a challenging pattern to overcome. We must challenge ourselves to see things from a different perspective, heal from our past experiences, and be mindful of how our actions impact others. By taking these steps, we can break through the cycle of self-sabotage and achieve the success we desire.

EPIC early return au where the butterfly effect moment is just Athena getting antsy sooner, and little Telemachus being just as cute and convincing as his older self in getting her to seek out his father.
And she inevitably finds him just as he's doing something stupid like sailing out of the underworld, or accepting magic drugs from his divine great-granddad. And in either case, the Great Reunion in this version is just Owlthena swooping down on a very blindsided Odysseus with beak and talons and screeches of 'HAVE YOU LEARNED NOTHING'

the fact that I respect and love T to an insane degree really keeps me accountable vis a vis my thesis. I don't want to disappoint her so I do my best every time to meet the deadlines and give it my all. if I were working with a prof I resented (like my mean gay prof. for example.) my subconscious might turn "not working on thesis" as an act of rebellion against them and I might feel incentivized to do it by a) my laziness and b) my never-resolved teenage drive to fight against authority, now become an integral part of my personality
