4. Ya Allah make me of the few You love, You Pardon and You shade on a Day when there is no shade but from Your Majestic Arsh.

5. Oh my Lord, increase me in Yakeen and Tawakkul in you. Let there be no doubt in my belief in Your Oneness, Your Majesty and Power.

6. Ya Rahman, shower your Mercy upon me and save me from disgrace on the Day of Reckoning.

7. Ya Allah Al Wali - The Protecting Friend, protect us from hearts that are not humble, tongues that are not wise, and eyes that have forgotten how to cry.

8. Ya Allah, increase me in Sadaqa-e- Jariya. May the legacy of my good deeds be never-ending.

9. Ya Rabb, perfect my Deen and my Worship. Save me from Faahisha and let me complete half of my Deen with someone whose heart is attached to you.

10. Ya Allah accept my good deeds and increase me in reward and Your Mercy. Wipe away my sins and pardon me completely.

11. Ya Allah, when I die, let my soul and my record of Deeds be with the Illiyeen. Grant me and my loved ones shade under your throne when there will be no shade but yours.

12. Ya Allah grant me, my parents, and family guidance, steadfastness and increase us in Imaan and taqwa. Keep me and my loved ones away from major and minor sins and from everything that earns your displeasure.

13. Ya Razaq increase me in my love for You and Your Prophet sallallähu 'alayhi wa sallam.

14. Ya Jabbar forgive me and my loved ones and increase us in Your Blessings and Provisions.

15. Ya Khaliq lead me to more opportunities to do good and seeking Your Pleasure. Help me expand my knowledge with sincerity and ikhlas.

16. Ya Wahhaab, Purify my intentions for Your Sake alone and let me not show off or take false pride. Save me from arrogance, pride, showing off and reminding of favors.

17. Oh my Creator and Sustainer, do not leave me alone. Bless me with a righteous spouse and children who will be the coolness of our eyes. Fill our hearts with a pure love that is pleasing to you. Bless us with spouses who will guide us towards your pleasure and with whom we will spend an eternity in Jannatul firdous al'aala.

Fun fact: we had an entire katiba (brigade) named after imam Anwar called the Anwar Al Awlaqi katiba. Full of muhajirin who listened to his lectures and carried out what he preached, imagine the sadaqa jariya. Imagine the ongoing reward for all those he motivated and was a reason for their guidance. Today was the type of foggy day that eats the tops of buildings 😌 I visited the Islamic bookstore of my childhood and got a few new books that I’m super excited to read! Insane how these people wrote these books almost 1,000 years ago and yet they still line our shelves and we still benefit from the fruits of their finite lives. A translated biography has so much love in it. The love of the biographer for the subject, the love of translator, the love of the bookstore owner, and my own love when I picked up the book. Their writings have become immortal, collecting more love and blessings as it passed hands! We can only pray for such a sadaqa jariya 🌙

yesterday morning i stumbled upon this account on instagram run by this sister who i had completely forgotten about. i dont know why i forgot about her. back when i was active on my reminders account, her posts would regularly show up on my feed and i would admire her so much. something about her writing made me feel like my soul was spilling over. i dont’ know how else to explain it but like that.

social media is swarming with writers, but rarely do i find writing that has such a profoundly lasting impact on me. her thoughts on religion, the photos that she took, the pictures that she drew, everything was so carefully crafted, like it had a greater purpose and came from the deepest place. 

so, when i discover her account once more after so long, i find that she has passed away a year ago. subahanallah, it has been over a year since she has departed from this world and i only find out now. but its the suddenness of her death that i cant seem to shake off. according to the comments on her last and final post, she was in a kite festival when the strings of a kite got caught around her throat and slit in open. 

i’ve been thinking about this for so long trying to make sense of it but i cant. death is so close and unexpected and its a promise that no one in this world can deny not even those who reject God. every breath we take is taking us closer to our end. the time we spend in this world is short, the time we are held in our graves is so long. we forget. 

something she posted a few weeks, or maybe even days before her death was this poem, with the caption ‘and i plan to stay for a long time.’  the irony of this sentence. she was 21 years old when she died. im 21 years old right now, and i seem to have it in my head that i have a whole life of living ahead of me. i think we all suffer from the same delusion. we are reminded of death all the time, but rarely does it phase us. how many reminders will it take for us to finally get in into our heads? we cant take this world as our home. we don’t belong here. we will never belong here.

the reason why i mention this is because its the blessed month of ramadan, the doors of mercy are open, prayers of the fasting person is always answered, and i am begging you who reads this to keep her in your duas and ask Allah to forgive her and accept her. her name was rahla. please dont forget to mention her name in your prayers today.

Pity yourself first, for they have been absolved of their duties due to their captivity but because of their intentions and previous goodness they continue to recieve rewards.

I’m a Canadian, and right now our country is in grieving. It has been in grieving, for what feels like it’s whole existence.

A Muslim family was targeted and killed as they walked down a street in Ontario. The bodies of 215 Indigenous children were found in British Columbia. People are still dying from COVID-19 each day.

It often feels like there’s nothing we can do, but there is. Take a moment to educate those around you, call people out on their bigotry, volunteer or donate where you can. In times of grief and pain, community is often what keeps us from falling apart.
