Pitch for the next Supermassive Game title after “The Quarry”:
Title:
INTO THE ABYSS (because the game is centered on deep sea diving)
/
/
Plot:
We follow 8 main characters who all work for Peele & Aster Inc, an oil company. The setting is one of Peele & Aster’s oil rigs in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that is drilling oil deep below the ocean’s surface. Half the main cast are saturation divers whose job is to go under the sea to do maintenance on the drills, which is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. The other half are company executives who are inspecting the site on the surface.
During one particular dive, the saturation divers discover a graveyard of ships that they hadn’t seen before. As they explore this graveyard, the crew begins to realize that there’s something out there dragging these ships down. Something…big. And unfortunately for them, they’re deep down in its natural environment. That being said, the surface crew isn’t safe either as whatever is responsible for the shipwreck graveyard is also targeting the oil rig.
(Spoiler alert: The villain is the Kraken)
/
/
Movie influences:
There’s really only two movies that I modeled this idea after; “Deep Blue Sea” and “Deep Rising”. I guess “Pirates of the Caribbean” is also an influence due to the use of the Kraken.
“The Abyss” is another good influence here. There’s also Michael Crichton’s “Sphere”. Also, if you’re a Markiplier fan or a gamer in general, there’s “Iron Lung”.
I want to be clear, even though this is a horror game set in the middle of the ocean, this is NOT meant to be similar to “Man of Medan” at all. Medan is a psychological horror movie, my idea is a giant monster flick.
/
/
Playable cast:
(NOTE: Unlike previous games, the cast is split into two groups. The first group is centered on the divers who are living in the underwater facility several miles deep below the surface. The second group is centered on the people at the surface rig, waiting for the divers to return. So the game alternates between surface and underwater)
The Saturation Divers -
1) Javier Garcia (played by Esai Morales): The most experienced diver and the leader of the underwater team. COMPASSIONATE, OVERBEARING, SENTIMENTAL.
2) Ricky Dalton (played by Joseph Quinn): The youngest of the underwater team and the least experienced diver. JOKER, INSECURE, IMPULSIVE.
3) Benji Wang (played by Aaron Yoo): The superstitious, god-fearing member of the underwater team who believes they’ve come across a demon. PARANOID, COMPLEX, FEARFUL.
4) Carmen Ybanez (played by Salma Hayek): The second-in-command of the underwater team. AMIABLE, ADVENTUROUS, PLAYFUL.
The Surface Team -
5) George Wallace (played by Clark Gregg): The team’s foreman/supervisor. COMMANDING, ABRASIVE, RATIONAL.
6) Claire Dunn (played by Alyssa Sutherland): A marine biologist who was brought onboard the rig by the company. DEFENSIVE, HEADSTRONG, SENSITIVE.
7) Pamela Mason (played by Annabeth Gish): An investor from Peele & Aster Inc who has come to visit the rig. VAIN, INTOLERANT, AMBITIOUS.
8) Avery Lincoln (played by Sophie Wilde): Pamela’s personal/executive assistant who accompanied her on the trip. STUDIOUS, STOIC, CHARMING.

Sight for sore eyes
Salma Paralluelo x BenficaPlayer!R
warnings: short chapter
Tumblr media
Nycole Raysla dribbles the ball through Ona Batlle and Ingrid Engen outside of the box. Taking this as a golden opportunity, Y/n L/n moves through an open space to receive a possible pass. She didn’t go unnoticed by the Brazilian forward, who passed the ball to her with her backheel. Y/n taps the ball once with her right foot before taking a shot, with Ingrid Engen missing her shot by a second. Goal!
The Portuguese supporters erupt as Y/n runs to the corner with her hands out wide. She couldn’t believe it. This is her second goal of the night and the score is 3-3 in the 70th minute. The girl’s teammates ran by her side to congratulate her on the goal.
“Number 7 Y/n L/n equalizes in the Champion’s League match!” the commentator screams in excitement.
After the celebration, Y/n looks over at Salma Paralluelo on the Barcelona bench. She was substituted out for Esmee Brugts two minutes before, but she hoped that Salma saw her goal. Y/n wasn’t someone who looked for external validation, but she wanted the girl in braids to be impressed by her goal.
Salma saw her goal, and she was impressed.
Salma didn’t celebrate obviously, out of respect for her Barcelona team. She looked at Y/n with soft eyes and a light smile. The Benfica player took it as a silent approval.
The girls weren't in an official relationship, but they’re in a long distance talking stage through social media. Y/n L/n is a (Reader’s Country) International who was in La Masia before signing to Benfica. She knew Salma for years, but they weren’t friends while attending the same school.
Salma, who casually scrolled through instagram one day, stumbled upon a captivating Instagram post from Y/n. She didn’t follow her, she saw the post through a mutual friend's story. The Spanish girl knew Y/n from the academy. When Y/n left Barcelona, she didn’t notice because her promotion to the Femeni A team happened at the same time.
Salma was entranced by Y/n's striking features and magnetic presence in the post. The girl had a four photo slideshow of herself on vacation in Albania (Visual at the end). Salma couldn't resist the urge to reach out. With a flutter of excitement and confidence, she initiated a conversation through social media. Y/n was surprised by this reach out, but they've sparked an instant connection. Y/n adored Salma and Salma couldn’t stop thinking about Y/n outside of football.
The game ended in 4-4 which disappointed the Benfica player. She didn’t want to defeat Barcelona out of hatred or vengeance for the club letting her go, but her competitiveness inside of her wanted to end their winning streak to boost her team’s morale.
As Y/n places on her red puffer jacket and pulls the tight hair tie out of her hair, she looks over at her teammate who walks towards her.
“Congrats on the goal against your old club!” Jessica Sliva pats on Y/n’s back. The younger girl smirks before shaking her head.
“Thank you...... Sorry- I feel like I shouldn’t have celebrated it.” Y/n confesses when her appreciation sounded monotoned. Jessica lowers her eyebrows in confusion, “Why?”
“Barcelona is the club I grew up with. People might consider the celebration I did as disrespectful.” Y/n swallowed. Jessica smirks before looking behind Y/n, seeing a particular girl 40 feet away with her own team.
“Is it because of that, or is it because of Salma?” Jessica smirks and nods her head towards someone behind them.
Y/n turns and sees Salma looking at her. The girl blushes and waves at the Spanish, who waves at her back with a shy smile.
“You’re in love, girl.” Jessica jokes.
“Shut up!” Y/n laughed, not denying it.
The girl continued to look at Salma as Jessica walked away. She knew that she had to go talk to her, but she is shy. All she does is admire from afar.
“What a sight for sore eyes.” Y/n thought, looking at Salma who moved to talk to Vicky Lopez.

Egyptian authorities have since 2020 carried out a campaign to silence female social media influencers, using a cybercrime law to detain them on vague charges such as violating “public morals” and “undermining family values”. Last week, TikTok celebrity Salma Elshimy became the latest in a growing list of women to fall foul of the authorities over social media posts.
Elshimy had just landed at Cairo International Airport when she was arrested on April 3 on charges of inciting “debauchery” and “violating family values” through her social media posts. The Egyptian model and influencer with an audience of 3.3 million TikTok followers was returning from a trip to Dubai, where she filed a residency application ahead of a planned move.
Her arrest was reported by a photographer from the United Arab Emirates, who informed the Egyptian news website Mada. According to Qatar-based Middle East Monitor, Egypt’s public prosecutor ordered that she be detained for four days on charges of “spreading immorality” and publishing videos and photographs that “contradict social morals and values”.
Lawyer Hany Sameh, a member of the Lawyers Syndicate’s committee on freedoms who has worked on similar cases in the past, described the accusations against Elshimy as “vague”. In an interview with Mada, he said they stemmed from “vestiges of regressive male chauvinism that is uncompromising against women”.
Such arrests are increasingly common in President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s Egypt, noted Amr Magdi, a senior researcher at Human Rights Watch (HRW), in a Twitter post last week. “Egyptian authorities arrested yet another female influencer for 'debauchery' just because she posts photos we see in everyday life and TVs,” he wrote, adding that arrests of women on “morality” charges “have skyrocketed” under al-Sisi.

Ugly Betty was a fun watch. (Dodgy morals at times, casual sexism and normalised misogyny and racism) But the episodes with Salma Hayek as Sofia will always live in my head rent free. I will always consider that the height of the show🔥

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish (2022) 10/10
Tumblr media
After dying eight times, and onto his final life, Puss In Boots goes on an all out race to the Last Wish-including Goldilocks and The Three Bears, Kitty Softpaws, Jack Horner and his henchmen, and Perrito, a chipper dog-to get all his nine lives back.
This movie is so funny, first off. There's a few jokes that go over kids' heads, and a few swears that are bleeped out, because it's supposed to be family friendly, but it's funny. Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek Pinault have amazing chemistry, going back and forth with witty banter.
The film also puts a twist on a few of the fairytale characters such as Goldilocks and Jack, but that's about it.
Despite the humor, this film also explores darker themes such as death, (one of the characters is a metaphor for death, for example) loneliness, and betrayal. Though it's not explicitly stated, there's also the lesson that life is short, each of us gets only one life, and death happens to everyone eventually. There's also the presence of a panic attack, which may hit home for many people, especially during the start of COVID, when many mental health cases rose. But for a kids' movie, this has very mature, very grown up messages. I think they did a good job depicting these morals.
It think this film would be easy for kids to understand that death is natural and it happens to everyone. But let's be honest, death isn't easy to talk about. But if this film makes that concept a tad easier to understand, then that's a win.
The animation style is different, compared to the one they used in the Shrek franchise. This one is similar to Spiderman:Into The Spider-Verse. The colors are bright, there's so much little detail, such as a shining blade or gleaming eye. I wasn't too hot on the idea at first, but it grew on me and I think I like this animation style better than the previous ones in the franchise.
This is one of the rare sequels that's better than the first movie, and it's a film to watch if you want to laugh. It's funny, emotional, dramatic, and laughable. I would watch this again.

King Abdullah II of Jordan, on 6 March 2024, bestowed the Order of the Bejewelled Grand Cordon of Al Nahda (Order of the Renaissance) on Queen Rania, in appreciation of her distinguished service, her leading role in the advancement of Jordanian society, and her keenness to support Jordanians in all fields.
His Majesty also sent a letter to Her Majesty on the occasion the Silver Jubilee.
Following is the full English translation of the letter:
“To my lifelong partner, Um Al Hussein, Your Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, may God bless and protect you:
I address you today with my deepest affection and pride.
As I mark the 25th anniversary of the assumption of my constitutional powers, I find myself reflecting on my journey so far, as a humble and faithful servant to our homeland. Through thick and thin, God has blessed me with an unwavering companion, who has stood by my side in constant devotion to this nation, putting her larger Jordanian family before her own.
I have always known you to be a loving wife, and a nurturing mother to our children, Al Hussein, Iman, Salma, and Hashem, who never fail to draw upon the values of their dear grandfather Al Hussein, and the Islamic values of their revered ancestor, our prophet and messenger of our faith, Muhammad, peace be upon him.
I have witnessed, firsthand, as you have strived to ensure the very best for your fellow Jordanians in various fields, without ever seeking praise or gratitude in return. Every obstacle and hardship you have encountered has only made you more determined to serve the public with honour.
Every time I enter a Jordanian village or home, its people ask me to convey to you their greetings and their appreciation for your efforts to develop our country and create a brighter, more hopeful future for our children. I see, in their eyes, love for the wife of their King and the mother of their Crown Prince.
I see no brighter picture than the one of Jordanian women that you proudly present to the world. They, too, take pride in their Queen and their country everywhere they go. You have never shied away from taking bold moral stances, defending the oppressed and supporting the vulnerable, wherever they may be.
Today, as you celebrate your Jordanian sisters and as the world celebrates women, I can think of no better occasion, nor higher honour, to recognise your efforts. Today, I bestow upon you the Order of the Bejewelled Grand Cordon of Al Nahda (Order of the Renaissance). May it serve as further inspiration for you to continue with all that you do for our country.
May God Almighty protect you, and sustain you on the path of virtue.
With my love, trust, and appreciation, always,
Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein.”

monthly media recap: august 2023
read:
The Song of Roland - I wouldn't have picked it up if I didn't chance upon a neat old copy for free. It's, uh, educational? And the translation into Russian is quite beautiful
Angélique and the Demon, Angélique and the Ghosts, Angélique in Québec by Anne Golon - still reading this series and honestly can't wait to finish it - not because I don't like the books, but because the translation gets progressively worse with each volume. Someone please tell these people there's a difference between a wolverine and a lynx, or between a guinea pig and a porpoise (I know the latter two are called almost the same in Russian, but context, man. Context. Guinea pigs don't frolic in the waves). Story-wise, however, I am still having a great time
+ currently reading the next Angélique book and Ten Thousand Stitches by Olivia Atwater (the sequel to Half a Soul I read last month)
watched:
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) - honestly, I watched it because: 1) I wanted to check out the show but thought I won't understand anything without the movie; 2) Salma Hayek pretty. I didn't expect to enjoy it because it's written by Tarantino and I really, really don't vibe with Tarantino, but enjoy it I did. The hostage-taking part was actually unsettling and the vampire-fighting part was fun; the family dynamics were also good. Again, Salma Hayek pretty, which also helps
From Dusk till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999) - empty, skippable
From Dusk till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter (1999) - now that's better, if only for the period setting. Ara Celi has perfect looks for a sweet kind girl tragically turned into a monster. I think the moral here is that if you're physically abusive to your kid, then your kid is better off being a vampire, what do you mean I'm misinterpreting?
From Dusk till Dawn: The Series (s1-3, 2014-2016) - as you could probably tell from the amount of gifsets I keep reblogging, I loved this one. Mythology, westerns, reluctant teamwork, family feels, hot people fighting and drinking blood - what's not to love? (Actually, that one character death is not to love, and the last episode is hella rushed, but what can you do). It actually isn't necessary to watch the film to understand it, but the knowledge of it makes it very interesting to compare the two and notice the cameos from the actors who were in the film. S3 kind of reminded me of Teen Wolf, which isn't much of a compliment, but this show overall had the same ambience as a lot of stuff I watched as a teen/in my early 20s (understandable, being made in that exact period), so that was nice.
Oak Thorn & The Old Rose of Love (2022) - this is like 20 minutes long but deserves to be on the list, because it's the story of Merlin and Nimue made by the director of The Green Knight, and it's beautiful
The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023) - it's good! Not "wow, incredible" good, but good, and I'm glad it is, because it's such a powerful and underrated chapter of Dracula. A slightly more detailed review with spoilers here
Woe Is No Big Deal / Раз, два — горе не беда! (1988) - rewatched this gem and dying to know if Leigh Bardugo has seen it, because this satirical fairytale/Cold War allegory was doing ~tsarpunk~ long before her
Wild Nights with Emily (2018) - that's right, there's more than one comedy about Emily Dickinson. This one's based on a play and feels like a play, which took some time getting used to, but in the end I enjoyed it

Best Animated Movies on Netflix for a Visual Feast
1. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
Tumblr media
Director: Joel Crawford
Cast: Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Harvey Guillén, Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Wagner Moura

Sequels released over a decade after the first film are always a gamble, but Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was one of multiple films from 2022 (Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water) that actually improved upon its predecessor. Eleven years after the first Puss in Boots, the eponymous rascally cat has now burned through eight of his nine lives on his various adventures, reteaming with Kitty Softpaws in pursuit of the Last Wish, which would restore his lives. Along the way, he tries to outrun Goldilocks — hoping to attain the Last Wish for herself — and a menacing wolf who mysteriously stalks Puss. Like other DreamWorks films post-Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the blend of 2-D and 3-D is striking in its visual texture, particularly in action sequences, but its darkly authentic themes of anxiety and the value of friendship resonate most of all.
2. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017)
Tumblr media
EW grade: B+ (read the review)
Director: David Soren
Cast: Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Nick Kroll, Thomas Middleditch, Jordan Peele, Kristen Schaal
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
The wildly popular Captain Underpants book series has kept kids entertained since 1997, but it wasn't until 20 years later that the tighty-whities-clad hero made it to the big screen. The First Epic Movie centers on George and Harold, fourth-grader best friends who create the Captain Underpants comic book and hypnotize their strict principal into becoming the superhero — who doesn't actually have superpowers. Kid-friendly without being too mind-numbing to their parents, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie has "charm to spare," praises EW's critic, noting it works "mostly because it never tries to be more or less than what it is." It also spawned a series on Netflix, The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, which ran from 2018 to 2020.
3. The Angry Birds Movie (2016)
Tumblr media
EW grade: B (read the review)
Director: Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly
Cast: Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage
While it may be damning with faint praise to give credit to The Angry Birds Movie for not being a total disaster...it really could've been much worse. Based on the wildly popular app of the same name, the film follows Red (voiced by Jason Sudeikis), a talking bird who comes to suspect that his island's new pig inhabitants have malicious intent. Your mileage may vary depending on your tolerance for punny/juvenile humor, but as EW's review notes, the film "delivers a mildly diverting mix of winky meta-jokes and moral lessons, cannily aimed at both the next generation of tiny consumers and their more sophisticated parents.
4. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022)
Tumblr media
Director: Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson
Cast: Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann, Burn Gorman, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton
Codirectors Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson transport the classic story of Pinocchio to World War II-era Italy in this meticulously crafted stop-motion animated film. Following the death of his young son, carpenter Geppetto cuts down a tree and carves a wooden boy, who is subsequently brought to life and dubbed Pinocchio. As the boy ventures to the outside world, he is met with dark forces that attempt to use and corrupt him, all against the backdrop of Benito Mussolini's reign as leader of Fascist Italy. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is a darker take on the tale compared to the well-known Disney adaptation (which also received a far-inferior live-action remake in 2022). From the fraught setting to the detailed creature designs, del Toro and Gustafson create a distinct world while providing valuable life lessons to viewers of all ages. The film became the first Netflix production to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
5. The Sea Beast (2022)
Tumblr media
Director: Chris Williams
Cast: Karl Urban, Zaris-Angel Hator, Jared Harris, Marianne Jean-Baptiste
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
A brave orphan girl named Maisie stows away aboard a ship of sea monster hunters in The Sea Beast, helmed by Big Hero 6's co-director Chris Williams. The sailors are renowned for their hunting abilities, though their status is threatened by their society's admiral, who wishes to replace them. They go out on one last hunt to track down a powerful sea beast called the Red Bluster, but, as Maisie soon discovers, the creatures may not have the kind of malicious intent for which they've come to be known. With dazzling colors, fast-paced thrills, and classical storytelling, it's easy to see why The Sea Beast became Netflix's most watched animated original film as of October 2022, according to the streamer. The film also earned a Best Animated Feature nomination at the Oscars, following a wave of critical praise.

hey so beating yourself up over the eating thing won't really help. please be kind and patient with yourself. try adding more snacks to your day. you don't have to eat only during established meal times if it doesn't work for you. you want a snack? eat the snack. really, the moment you allow yourself to eat a little a lot of the time, it might get a bit easier. it's not a moral or personal failure to struggle. it's not shameful if you have to drink your calories in the form of smoothies or protein shakes. you're not a letdown in regards to your family because you struggle. improvement will come with time, so please keep your head up during this storm too.

awww gloom thats so sweet i might cry 😭 (/pos) tysm for the kitties, hi linky and salma!! 🥰🥰
yeah i tend to beat myself up over everything and my thoughts convince me that i am in the wrong (they do a pretty good job at that). my mom is more than willing to help me get more calories even when im back at school. its just upsetting for me because i was doing so much better earlier this year, my weight was healthy and i was maintaining calories, and then i went to school. and im all the way back at square 1 :( in fact even lower than that! so ofc my thoughts come in to blame me for everything

Good Game, Sal
Salma Paralluelo x Barca!Reader
"enemies" to lovers, angst
Tumblr media
Salma Paralluelo and I, both rising stars of Barcelona's Femeni team, shared more than just a common jersey; we shared a rivalry that burned hotter than the Catalan sun on a July afternoon.
Salma, with her quick footwork and innate goal-scoring abilities, was a product of La Masia, Barcelona's renowned youth academy. Her journey to the top seemed paved with gold, crowned by her recent triumph in the World Cup with the Spanish national team. Me, on the other hand, hailed from a humbled path, I considered my talent raw and untamed, molded through sheer determination and grit.
Growing up in the United States, I’ve played through many unknown summer leagues, clubs mainly filled with boys, school teams, and futsal in the winter months before I put the pen on paper with Washington Spirit at the age of 15.
After four great years with building my talent, creating new friendships, and enjoying my life in the United States Capital, my contract was expiring.
Washington Spirit offered me a renewal, but Barcelona contacted my agent with a proposal that sent my jaw dropping to the floor. The Catalan Club was my dream club while growing up. I’ve admired Alexia Putellas, Ronaldinho, Messi, and Xavi for years. So I followed my heart and denied another four years in Washington DC, so I can accomplish my dream.
However, I had to put in hard work when I arrived in Barcelona. This challenge was needed, since the challenge to score on the pitch fuels my passion. However, I didn’t expect a rivalry to happen WITHIN the club rather than the opponents I’ve played against.
First, it was a constant competition for playing time. Overtime, I’ve thought that I harbored a deep-seated resentment towards Salma, envying her success, her effortless grace on the pitch.
Against Madrid CFF, my debut game in September, I scored a brace that drove the club to win 4-0. Afterwards, I’ve held a record for scoring at least once in a game I’ve had minutes in.
However, Salma seemed to have the upper hand when it came to having a start. I had to swallow my pride every time I had to be her 67th minute substitute. She always hugged me when she would come off, but my body would tense up everytime. Nobody noticed the small resentment for her, except for Salma herself. She started to piece small things together.
“You did great today Niña, I'm impressed by your dribbling and speed in training.” Alexia, or my captain Ale, patted me on the back as we headed into the locker rooms after training. A few days ago, we won the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea. Thanks to a goal from Aitana, Fridolina, and I.
Alexia was a huge advocate for me which made my heart melt. I’ve admired her as a fan but now I am her teammate, so I express my gratitude to her whenever its possible.
“Thank you. I learn from the best people surrounding me.” I smirked and Alexia breathed out a chuckle. Something the girls noticed when I came to the club is how much I’ll compliment or support people on their skills. Aitana said that I've been a light in the dressing room when it comes to boosting morale. This is a reason why people don’t notice a small resentment I held for a-certain-someone on the team.
“Well, Don’t get your hopes up when I say this— but Jona might consider you as a starter for the final— Don’t take that as a guarantee, but your speed will be needed against Lyon's defense” Alexia’s Spanish accent poked through as she held onto my shoulder. The Spanish are very affectionate.
“I won’t get my hopes up— I do take that as a compliment though.” I said.
“Good. We’ve been looking between you and Salma as the third forward in the finale. Since Frido and Caro will have the left and right wing.” Alexia spoke. I felt my stomach turn at her name. Aware that I will have to work harder in training to start in the final, I know Salma will do the same thing.
A week later, my “animosity” towards Salma only intensified when I discovered that Salma will start in the final over me as a striker. Back at my apartment, I’ve cried myself to sleep. I’ve worked hard in training. My tears represented the fear that nobody is seeing the skills and potential I have.
“Hey Y/n” As I walked out the locker room after training one morning, I turned around and saw Salma approaching me. My eyes widened and I turned to walk away in a hurry.
“Hi.” I said quickly as Salma continued to walk beside me. What did she want?
“We should go watch The Challengers movie with Esmee on our day off Sunday. I know you both used to play tennis and such, it looks like a great movie.” Salma hesitantly spoke. My eyebrows knitted together at what she said. I did play tennis for a few years in middle school back in America, but as a hobby not a sport. Esmee told me that she could’ve gone professional at tennis in the Netherlands but chose football instead. The Dutch girl is the only person that knew about my old tennis hobby, so she had to have told Salma about it.
“Um–” I say as we both pushed the glass doors outside into the parking lot. As much as I wanted to say no, express to Salma how much I've resented her, and drive home.. I couldn’t. I felt my heart ache as I looked at the girl who had a shy smile. Wait– huh? Why am I doing that?
“I–I can go with you guys–Just have Esmee text me the details when you guys decide the time.” I said before walking away to my black SUV, my emotions not handling what Salma might’ve said or reacted to my acceptance.
The last few days before Sunday came along. I’ve talked to my best friend, Isla, about everything. She doesn’t live in Spain, since she plays football for Gotham FC, but she had a clear understanding about the community.
After my rant which lasted an hour, Isla said something which made my heart stop for a quick second.
“Are you sure that you hate Salma?” Isla asked over the facetime call.
“Well-No! I don’t hate anybody, I just hate how big of an advantage she has over me.”
“Oh– because it sounds like you’re in love with her–”
“Excuse me?”
“Well the way you’ve talked about Salma reminds me of how I started off with Esther here at Gotham. However it was the other way around. She was in love with me but refused to accept it– so she found reasons to try and hate me instead before she was forced to confront the truth.”
That part of the conversation replayed in my mind for the last few days. Throughout training, throughout the game against Granada that won us the league, it replayed non-stop. It didn’t distract me but I couldn’t look at Salma without questioning if I am in love with her. A subtle shift began to take place within my heart, even if I didn’t want it to happen.
Salma started noticing the small things too. After the Granada game which granted us Liga F champions, she noticed when I wrapped my arm around her and Esmee as we jumped around in the red-colored locker rooms. I’ve noticed that as I started to slowly accept my possible feelings for her, my “resentment” faded away with it.
“Good game, Sal.” I whispered in her ear as everyone posed for a group picture in our “Liga F Champions” shirts. She looked at me with widened eyes before smiling softly.
I found herself drawn to the challenge Salma posed as the Champions League final was coming up. Salma always craved the intensity of their encounters, the adrenaline rush of chasing victory side by side with her rival, just like I did.
By Sunday, the day where Salma Esmee and I will go to the movie theaters, I've accepted it—I finally realized the truth that had been staring me in the face all along. Due to past heartbreak, I didn’t want to fall in love again but here I am in Spain. As I stood in the mirror, looking at the nice casual outfit I've put on (imagine what outfit you want, reader <3) I knew with absolute certainty that what I’ve felt went beyond rivalry with Salma, beyond competition.
It was love.
In that moment of clarity, my resentment melted away. I knew that I couldn't keep denying her feelings any longer, but a fear started to grow inside of my heart. What if it's too late?
Salma did notice my resentment towards her. There were times where I’ve blown her off because of that. I couldn’t blame her if she started to hate me for what I've done to her.
Four hours later, The Challengers movie ended. I’ve sat in-between Esmee (on my left) and Salma (on my right) in the movie theater. The movie was good but I had the urge to look at Salma at times. Once, I looked down at her hand that wasn’t too far from mine. As much as I wanted to reach to hold her soft hands, I couldn’t do it. What if she pulled away? What if things would’ve been awkward between us? I didn’t risk it.
When we hugged Esmee as she left the theater, it was Salma and I in the parking lot. I could’ve said bye and left too, but Salma wanted to say something to me. Esmee and her gave each other an unknowing glance, so I believe Esmee might know what Salma is feeling.
“Y/n, Why do you hate me?” Salma frowned. My heart broke as I bit my lip in nervousness.
“I don’t.” I said I looked at her with a sad smile.
“Yes you do. Every time I wanted to talk to you at practice, you always ran away to talk to someone else. I’ve noticed that you’re the only person that never congratulated me separately after a goal. I’ve seen the way you’ve brightened up people’s days with your compliments, love, and hugs. Why can I not have that Y/n? Did I do something to you for you to hate me? Just tell me because I don’t want to start off next season knowing that you might hate me for something I might’ve done.” Salma took my left hand and held it with both of her soft, moisturized hands as she looked me in the eyes.
A tear fell out of my left eye as I felt guilty. I’ve fucked up. I’ve hurt Salma and she doesn’t know why— I need to tell her how I feel.
“Salma, I don’t hate you at all. I am so sorry for what I've done to you. All you did—really—was be great on the pitch. When I came to Spain, I noticed how loved you were by everyone. You had the minutes, skills, awards, and recognition that I could dream of having. However— I’ve admired you more than everyone else at the same time. I know that's hard to accept due to what I've done to you, but I felt like you were too good for me. I look at you more than everyone else. I wanted to hug you and congratulate your success with you but the vulnerability scared me. I’ve been hurt before so in order to protect my feelings, I’ve covered it up with resentment— Salma, I am in love with you.” By the time I told her that I love her, tears poured down my cheeks and Salma held me in a hug, tightly, as she cried too.
“Y/n, I am in love with you too. That's why it hurt me when I believed that you might’ve hated me.” Salma said through her tears.
“I am so sorry–seriously. I don't hate you. I love you. I will never hurt you like that again, I swear.”  I said.
After that night, we started over and became lovers. Our undeniable bond blossomed between us. The team adored our relationship and were happy for us. I did keep my promise, I never hurt her again. I’ve found love in giving my love to her without the fear of getting hurt. After the debut game in the 24/25 season, we walked off the pitch hand in hand, my heart fluttered as I know this is the beginning of our longtime relationship.

11/20/2020 11:35 PM fists of fury [ drabble ]
andreas... a voice called his name but it was muffled by the blanket over his head. "dejame!" there was nothing more to say. snot and tears were smeared across his sleeve. he had done the worst already. blood still covered his knuckles where the blows had been unmerciful. the door slammed open. andreas snapped upright, startled. "hermanito, patience is not one of my virtues." andre threw a pillow at dante. "you gonna fix my fυcking door!" it came out more of a screech than a question. his brother landed on the corner of the bed so hard, the blanket flew and settled in a new position. "talia told me." dante stated. andre's cheeks flushed and he hid his hands under the blanket. dante shifted and sucked his teeth, "why did you hurt that guy?" a sigh left him but the snot made bubbles. andreas wiped again, staring intently at the blanket covering his hands. telling dante could be the wrong thing to do. his brother was a match waiting to be struck. still...if he couldn't talk to his own family, what else could he do? "he said my mom created fags," dante's eyes already lighting up made him clear his throat, "he was talking sh*t because of dad." it was true, diego had come out as a gay man during his marriage to salma. but the implications that his classmate had put on diego's name hadn't settled into andre's stomach. it simmered until it burned his insides. "it isn't like you to resolve things with fists—that's my thing." his words treaded lightly but the fury in dante's eyes said more. "i'm glad you stood up for dad, though." andre grimaced. "i feel like mom is disappointed in me...i reminded her of javier." dante put a hand on andre's shoulder, settling the storm inside of both of them. "we are not our parents, andre." he was aware of that. he knew that one bad fight did not define him. his morals were still intact. but the horrified look on salma's face when she saw the other guy had gutted him. it'd hurt more than the words that fυcker had spewed. the silence was comforting. dante was a walking juxtaposition. he could be stone or silk and he was rarely in between. "alright, go take a shower and we'll watch some netflix, fυckwad." "yeah, first, help me put my door back together, fυckass."

Do we ever learn from history?
Ask any journalist who has interviewed Oliver Stone, and you’re prone to hear the same story. He is hardly the man you might expect from his movies, argumentative and hyper-caffeinated. He speaks in an even, measured tone of voice. His arguments are thoughtful and intelligently reasoned.
For more than two decades, Stone has been lambasted by historians (for his expansive, conspiracy-minded re-examinations of the Kennedy assassination in 1991’s “JFK”); by the moral guardians (for his scabrous satire of our sex-and-violence-obsessed culture, 1994’s “Natural Born Killers”); and most recently even by the critics who used to champion him (recent titles like 2004’s “Alexander” and 2010’s “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” have been especially poorly received).
In which case, perhaps Stone has learned to rise above all the noise and remember that it’s his work — probing, searing and technically dazzling, even if it does occasionally devolve into grandstanding — that speaks loudest.
“I think we’re in a time that we can take the gloves off, stop the mythologizing about America,” he says — quietly, reflectively — of his determination to keep pushing our buttons cinematically.
Stone is calling from New York City, where he’s doing the publicity rounds for his latest, a thriller called “Savages,” which opens Friday. Based on Don Winslow’s 2010 novel, which Stone acquired before it was published, it tells the story of two handsome young marijuana dealers (Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson), the beautiful girl they both love (Blake Lively) and the vicious Mexican drug cartel that tries to move in on their turf.
In many respects, it’s one of the director’s least evidently political movies. Stone throws us into a turbulent and exceedingly violent world, which also features a deadly Tijuana widow (Salma Hayek), her two henchman (Demian Bichir and Benicio Del Toro) and a DEA agent on the take (John Travolta). But there’s also no avoiding the movie’s real-world parallels. Stone doesn’t flinch from the outsized, unimaginable violence being reported regularly out of Mexico — at various points in the film, characters are beheaded, stabbed and tortured. And underlying the drama is a distinctly Stone-ian sense of exasperation about the failures and hypocrisies of America’s war on drugs.
“It’s an unmitigated disaster and has cost this country friendships abroad, and has cost us half a trillion dollars,” Stone says about the federal government’s drug control policy.
“The thinking on it is perverted. Do we ever learn anything from history? Prohibition only gave America a new gangster class that went onto into other rackets, after they were finished with liquor. We only create more criminals.”
(Stone’s attitude toward the criminalization of marijuana can perhaps be summed up by the fact that he posed for the cover of the current issue of High Times magazine smoking a joint.)
With its sometimes unlikely twists and elaborate double-crosses, it’s clear that “Savages” is a movie more about showing the audience a good time than inspiring any sort of sustained policy debate. Yet the director’s days of controversy-making also appear to be far from over.
His next project is a 10-part documentary, titled “The Untold History of the United States,” which is expected to begin airing on Showtime in November. It will question conventionally held wisdom on a host of major historical topics, from the bombing of Hiroshima to Bush v. Gore.
And given the opportunity, the director is still willing to toss off one of his trademark conspiracy theories, albeit in calm and perfectly reasonable-sounding fashion. Moments before our interview began, the Supreme Court had just announced its decision to uphold President Barack Obama’s health care law. Stone was predictably skeptical and iconoclastic in analyzing Chief Justice John Roberts’ motivations.
“Roberts is under a lot of pressure there,” he said. “I think if he had his druthers, he’d have gone the other way.”
-Christopher Kelly, "Back with thriller ‘Savages,’ Oliver Stone doesn’t shrink from controversy," Fort Worth Star-Telegram, July 3 2012
