Last night was horrible. I got 3 hours of sleep. I just fucking gave up and got up. I was so upset that I started writing a post for a mental health subreddit looking for some kind of advice on how to deal with this upstairs neighbor situation without being "the neighbor banging on the ceiling with a broom".

I didn't post it. I wrote like 10 paragraphs which, to anyone who has ever read this blog, knows that's pretty short for me... I deduced pretty clearly that if these people are waking me up through my box fan, my noise cancelling earbuds and white noise in the earbuds? There really aren't a lot of other options as far as sound reduction goes. That's just... where I'm at. So... the choices I have are...

Avoid the problem: relocate my sleeping spot - this is nearly impossible. My mom insisted I throw out my old mattress (which likely wouldn't fit in the rental car for the move) and she ordered me a Helix mattress which I lugged upstairs in its box. Okay, I mean... technically it would be possible for me to relocate the mattress, I'm not going to lie there... but it would be quite an undertaking and I would have to have my next steps well prepared. Then... what the fuck do I do with the loft space? ... Well... I could move my art studio up there... and I could just sleep in the main room. Use the main room as sorta... a studio apartment... and use the loft as my art workspace. The issue with this? My art space would be way the fuck away from my computer, so streaming art is out of the picture. Then I thought... well, what if I move my computer? My standing desk is way too heavy to bring upstairs. Like.. getting the mattress downstairs would be worlds easier than bringing the desk upstairs, and it would not be easy. Another option would be... basically abandoning the upstairs and just living downstairs. It just all feels a bit extreme.

Adapt: fix my sleep schedule - I don't really think I have a choice but to do this, honestly. Completely rearranging my entire house just because some people don't know how to like... take their shoes off... or walk softly before noon? It feels a bit extreme. But honestly... I feel so fucking stuck with this sleep thing.

So... let's talk about it. When I first moved here, I used to go out and smoke weed at like 4AM, then go right to bed. It would be dark out. I was a bit freaked out at first, but... I did it fine. I was watching those PTSD videos back then, ones on doing visualization of a safe place right before bed, and doing relaxation exercises. And it really did help. It's really the primary reason I made it through that transition as easily as I did.

So... what changed? Why am I scared to go to bed before dawn? Could it really be as simple as... Max died? And now I'm alone in the dark without a nocturnal partner to share the space with me? Could this just be a grief thing?

I guess we'll see. Honestly, I don't even know if it's going to be difficult. I don't even know if going to bed while it's still dark will be scary for me, honestly. It's been so long since I've even tried. There's just an invisible wall there. So... tonight will be a litmus test, we'll see what that wall really looks like.

I'm running on 4 hours of sleep. I stayed up until the maintenance guy came over, he was super friendly, the same dude that fixed my door (when the deadbolt wasn't latching) and did that inspection a few months ago. He was in and out really quick, just took a look at it, said he'd order the new part and try to get over here tomorrow to fix it. Fingers crossed. I'm going to make sure we test run it so he can see if it's wobbling and make sure he keeps that fucker tight as a drum so we don't have this problem again. I'd do it myself but I don't have a 15' ladder on hand and... to be frank... it's not my fucking job. :) Ahhh it's so relieving to finally be able to say that. HOLY SHIT. <heavy sigh of relief> Dude, when you are in isolation, living completely alone for extended periods of time... you start noticing pretty quick that if you want something done... you need to do it yourself. Not because you're the best person for the job, or because someone else might fuck it up, or you're the one who will do it well or you will do it the quickest... rather, if you don't do it... it doesn't get done. And that was fucking super eye-opening in the way I interacted with others... others who were omega-codependent. The ones who would constantly shame and guilt me for asking for help with super simple stuff. They all had people around to give them a helping hand, but they were too proud to ask for it. Pride. The most dangerous of sins, because it is the root of so many other ones, and it can also be connected to virtue in the right light... so it can often fly by undetected. But this... this manifestation is not a nice one. It's people who dedicate huge amounts of energy to hiding their problems, even from themselves, rather than admit that they need help. Those are the ones who I guaranteed would not get a finger lifted from, because - in their logic - "no one helps me..." Well... is it a coincidence that they never ask?

After years and years of being on this proverbial island, doing everything possible myself because I lack the income to hire others and I struggle with a big trauma/anxiety wall trying to make new friends, I'm finally in a position where I have assistance (reliable assistance) available to me. It feels very... secure. I feel cared about. Even though I'm just one of many many many people in this building, I still feel like... if something goes wrong, they will have my back. And that is a very new feeling outside of therapy, where it is contractually obligated. And here, I mean... it's contractually obligated too... but they're still nice people.

So yeah, the dude looked at the fan, he's going to come by either tomorrow or the day after. I did yoga, I ate, I drank a pot of coffee. Then I took an hour nap. I passed right out. And I woke up with this fucked up taste in my mouth. I still don't know what exactly caused it, but I had some really old Neon Sharpies I was drawing with on the string lights I was customizing today and that chemical smell matched the taste pretty close. Maybe I had some on my fingers and they made their way into my mouth in my sleep? I don't know. But yeah, I spend the rest of the evening doing designs on those lights, which is coming out pretty damn cool. And preparing the beads, which came out pretty damn cool. The green ones are definitely pale, but they came out more of a subdued lemon lime yellow-green, which is totally cool by me. They look great, I'm happy with them. I went back and forth on whether I wanted to put symbols on them individually, or decorate them further... but I still wasn't sure about medium, or what symbols... yeah... so I decided to hold off on that and just run this batch and do something more ornate on another batch. I just wanna keep things moving and let my inspiration inspire new pieces rather than alter current ones. I think it's a good plan.

So... I got the first layer of tung oil on the plain beads, the green ones, the blue ones, and two beads painted with Posca opaque paint pens that I was going to do test runs with acrylic sealer on. I want to see how they do with the oil. I'm very curious to see how that turns out. They should be fine, I'm just... I'd prefer to do a test run. And if that works well, that's a big win because that ink does not soak into the wood, so I can do very detailed ornamentation with those. Just using ink, even just archival ink like Micron pens, will soak into the wood and you risk what we used to call in tattooing "blowouts", where the ink just... blows out... it spreads and bleeds unintentionally. These paint pens won't do that, which is super nice.

So yeah, they're soaking up their first coat. I skipped the display table today because I didn't want to sand it. I can coat it any time, it's not a big deal. And I skipped exercise today because I'm running on two days worth of fumes. I didn't want to push myself too far. Next day is the last one on the workout plan, so that's a milestone. I'll search for a new workout and revisit the meal planner tomorrow.

But yeah, now it's 2:30 AM and I'm lined up to go start getting ready for bed. Fingers crossed things go well. This is gonna be like... sleeping somewhere new for the first time, with how long it's been. But I really need to remember... it's not new... it's a return to how things were. And the big sell? If I get to sleep now? There's a smaller time window where those people upstairs will be able to wake me up.

We'll see how things go.

RWBY is a good show that suffers too much hatred: The weird concept of taking hatred of a piece of media, and calling it criticism, or "Expectations vs Headcanons" type of criticism. Or: Why having nothing nice to say is the equivalent of hating rather than criticizing.

OPENING REMARKS

Nobody is saying that RWBY is on the same level of ATLA, or FMAB, or stuff like that.

But many people who watch RWBY past Volume 3 still have an appreciation for the show. But when we try to discuss our love for the show? How many people have told us that we are wrong for watching RWBY past volume 3?

Many people who refuse to watch RWBY, do so simply because they were told by people who came up with one reason or another why they didn't like the show, those people proceeded to then dislike RWBY without ever having watched it.

over 200 people review-bombed RWBY Volume 8 on IMDB.

A show with female protagonists and LGBT themes included apparently gets attacked. This is a common theme here.

On Social media (excluding Tumblr), you can't scroll past the posts/videos on RWBY without seeing at least one or several of the following:

A. Monty wouldn't want this (it's been 7 freaking years and they still use this one)

B. Let RT and the show die once and for all

C. Make it a real anime

D. The fanfiction of this male character is better than the LGBT or female ones

E. The cries about the male villains and the sheer misogyny from men and women towards fictional female characters.

Very few shows have a sub market of people making 2 hour criticism videos or have to separate out a criticism subreddit, and most of these shows have a much larger viewership than RWBY. Is there an overprotectiveness, sure, but its also kinda obvious that RWBY also gets more hate than other shows of its popularity.

And it should be mentioned that R/RWBY allows R/RWBYCritics to flood it and R/FNKI with hatred regularly. You know which two people I am referring to.

Since season 4 one of the accusations has been that continuing to like the show is insulting Monty Oum. Some of the hate against the show was dual hate against the creators, and so naturally the defenders of the show also defended the creators.

So then does that make the fandoms of one piece, attack on titan, tower of god, etc overprotective, or is it a re-occurring thing where these subs are usually made out of good intentions that have easily dissolved into attack the show/it’s creators?

I don’t know of many communities where the hate and dislike of where the series is going is so prevalent that Subreddit mods have to make a rule to prevent people from saying that “the show goes against the creator’s wish” and have YouTubers that constantly make post about any little thing happening and turn it into “that’s why this series and it’s company is dying #356”(hero hei for example). The community isn’t against criticism as much as the RWDE community thinks, but the way it’s worded. If most arguments and criticisms were made to be respectful and include the good in a show, instead of being “this is why crwby is inept dumbasses that should sell the series to someone else and anyone that enjoys *x sis equally as stupid” than this problem wouldn’t be as prevalent, but most criticisms made are ones that regularly attack the crew or audience for certain aspects. Even some of the most analytical criticisms of other weird treat the people that enjoy it and it’s creators with some level of respect.

Generalizations are made by what is usually seen by the majority. Not to disagree that we should see these more case by case but it’s seen as such a problem because of the influx of situations like the one I’ve mention above, whether on here or other platform. People like “all you write” who make great analysis/ critic videos are perfect examples of how these discussions should go: explain the fact, talk about the good and bad done(because criticisms should contain both, not just what is bad/disliked) and separate parts for how they feel about certain moments. Most criticisms just come off like eruptionfang’s: crass, missing the point most of the time with actual bits of criticisms littered in between.

Any time RWBY comes up unprompted by myself or a fan of the show, I always see people chime in negatively. I do not see that with practically any other popular but criticized show. I think the only other one that comes to mind is Sword Art Online. That kind of response to something you like everywhere you go is rough, no matter how you slice it. It can make you feel unwelcome or wrong just for liking/loving what you like/love.

Even if you know you have every right to enjoy it, seeing that gut reaction as the prevailing mentality starts to make you feel like something is wrong with you. This is a fact of human psychology. The negative response is also so common because you can't speak up in defense of it without being "shouted down." It allows this behavior to continue to occur while it leaves those who enjoy it and don't blow a gasket to sit in silence while people mock their interests. 2 years ago Hbomberguy ripped open a can of hate against RWBY and its writers that left the worldwide web mocking everyone for enjoying RWBY even 2 years after that hate video was aired. Try talking about RWBY in R/RWBY while defending it? R/RWBYCritics will harass, and then post your post, to their subreddit, encouraging hate against you.

Consider the fact that of all of the people who do nothing but post negativity about the show, it's a person who disagrees with that negativity whom Critics take issue with.

Objectively speaking, the level of hate I see the show get from some viewers is not proportional to their actual valid criticisms of the show or otherwise.

TAKING THINGS OUT OF CONTEXT IS NOT CRITICISM, BUT CRITICIZING SOMETHING FROM AN OUT OF CONTEXT PERSPECTIVE IS HATRED

So a female protagonist defeating a male villain is bad writing? Remember how Yang and Blake fought Adam? Adam had destroyed their school, tried to destroy another one, tried to have Blake's parents killed for getting in his way, had stabbed Blake through the stomach for leaving his violent faction, had cut off Yang's arm, and had tried to blow up a train of unarmed civilians.In V6, Adam tried to kill them both. Both Yang and Blake kept offering him the opportunity to leave them alone. Adam was so eager for revenge (aka, NOT stalking ex, but just wanting revenge) that he refuses all offers.Yang and Blake had no choice but to kill him.

How many times have you heard people claiming that Adam should have been spared, or taken to Atlas, or that Yang and Blake were wrong? It just doesn't make sense.

Now we go to Volume 7-8.

RWBY had made several plans based off of Ironwood's single plan.

Let's use the Train analogy. The city of Atlas is the train. Mantle is the people on a single track, there is no second track. And Salem's faction are people trying to get on board the train while attacking and threatening the people of mantle on that track.Ironwood, in wanting to Abandon Mantle, we'll say is willing to roll through them. RWBY halts the train because she wants to protect all of those people, but Ironwood refuses at all costs.RWBY's strategy since Ironwood had no interest in the very people he had taken dust and resources from while quarantining them and not only refusing to protect them, but refusing to allow them to protect themselves?RWBY decided to transport everyone to the train station that is vacuo, with the passengers.Sure, the train was destroyed, but what would you rather save? A Train? Or its passengers?Or in terms of RWBY? Would you rather save a city while abandoning the people? Or would you rather save the people, who represent the kingdom?A kingdom is composed of people, not structures. This was a theme in Thor: Ragnarock.And I must admit, while Hela was indeed a villain, she was in fact a sympathetic one.

BUMBLEBY: CRITICISM VS HATE

Let me state that, as a Bumbleby fan, I DO wish there was more build-up, and more dialogue.

THAT is a valid criticism echoed by many.

Calling Bumbleby an SJW Agenda? Saying it was "forced?" Or saying that "The writers were bullied by the shippers into making Bumbleby Canon?"

That's not criticism...or at the very least, its not valid criticism.

What is valid criticism? Insulting RWBY and CRWBY is not valid, it accomplishes nothing other than hatred.

And just hating on something? Is not criticism, its hate.

Wishing harm onto female fictional characters? Is not criticism.

If you want to make suggestions to the writers, that's fine. But let me ask this?

How many of these people have insulted the writers, called their insults "suggestions," and when the writers refused to listen to people who were insulting the writers, these people then claimed that "the writers couldn't handle criticism"

When I went to college, as part of our Electives, we were required to take part in discourse.

That required acknowledging the good and bad of a show, and respecting the good while politely and respectfully discussing the bad.

The reason people say RWBY is overhated is due to so many videos and blogs and posts that do nothing but promote negativity against the show, while refusing to speak well of the good in its writing, its characters, its worldbuilding, etc.

A positive look...criticism was included, but the good in the show was also covered.

A balanced take.

For me, Valid criticism has to include positivity towards what you are criticizing. You need to be respectful when you give a critique.

But while respectful criticism of RWBY exists, it is drowned out by bad-faith criticism that is more focused on talking about how they dislike the show, or that people should not watch the show.

If you're telling somebody "This show sucks, don't watch it"....Is that criticism? Or Hatred?

If lots of people are doing their best to try to stop others from watching RWBY? I would call that hatred.

And so we have to come to the conclusion that RWBY is a victim of a lot of bad-faith criticism.

That makes it over-hated.

Do we have slurs or insults for the Blacksun shippers? No. But the Blacksun shippers have multiple insults for us. Hornet, Wasp, Crotch Snot (That was Eruption Fang, btw)

You can count the number of RWBY Critics who are Bumbleby fans? On 1-2 hands.

RWBY Critics who are blacksun shippers? Try counting the grains of sand at the beach.

EXPECTATIONS? OR HEADCANONS?

People saw Adam Taurus, a "cool dude" who tried to blow up a train of innocent passengers, and immediately people had headcanons about him, made fanart, and worshipped him as some morally ambiguous character.

His first scene was in Volume 2, where he told Cinder that while many of his men had died, he could convince them to still follow her.

In other words, ADAM NEVER CARED FOR THE FAUNUS. All he cared about was himself.

Then in V3, we see that the man who had no problem trying to kill innocent civilians, had no problem sacrificing his followers for somebody else's goals? Was in fact a very evil man.

People suffered the truth: Adam Taurus was not what they imagined. So they claimed character assassination, or bad writing. Because it was easier to claim that, rather than admit that RWBY simply did not do what they demanded the show do for them.

Just because we watch RWBY? Does not mean we are entitled to make demands of the writers.

And just because we’re not paying attention? DOES NOT mean something is bad writing.

CAKE ANALOGY

Let's say that a store advertised a cake with chocolate frosting, and some people interpreted the cake as being entirely chocolate.When they discovered the cake itself was vanilla, they insisted that it was a poorly-made cake...even though the cake was indeed advertised as a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting.That the product was not what you wanted it to be does not mean it was incorrectly advertised, or that it is a bad cake for not being the cake you want.

CRITICISM BY ITSELF IS NOT BAD, BUT WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CRITICISM AND HATRED?

The term Hatedom was coined due to there being people in the fandom who literally had nothing nice to say about the show, and were literally there just to hate.How many people have you spoken to who left the fandom due to the negativity?Was that really criticism? Or was it hate?A lot of people have said hate.

NOBODY is villainizing criticism. But if you're going to put effort into "criticizing" a show, at least put in a respectable amount of effort into respecting the show.

We are the only show I know of where there is a subreddit for critics. Arcane, Legend of Korra, Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, etc? None of them have such a subreddit.

There is this belief that everyone is allowed to criticize RWBY...but who criticizes the critics?

Who is allowed to criticize a critic for making a false analogy or an inaccurate statement?

The accusation that Ruby has a messiah complex? When she's repeatedly shown taking criticism and listening to others advice and just wanting to help people?Compared to Ironwood who constantly claims to have an answer for everything, removes anyone in his way including Ozpin, constantly talks about how he sees the big picture, and cries about how nobody understands the "sacrifices" he has to make?That's a messiah complex, yet how many videos do you see treating RWBY as war criminals, and Ironwood as a victim of some agenda, whether it be "anti-military" or "anti-male?"

Have you tried to speak up about it, only to be silenced?

Back in September on Twitter, a girl spoke about how she was watching RWBY with a friend. A well-known critic in the fandom QRT'd her tweet, and mocked her by accusing her of having rent issues.

Several people tried to speak up about it...they were all silenced for criticizing the individual harassing the girl.

Communication is a two-way street. If you're not allowed to criticize the criticism? Then its basically an echo chamber of hatred.

Do you really believe that the people defending RWBY live in an echo chamber of positivity? Who told you that? No, we who love RWBY criticize the show as well! We just don't hate it or the people loving and defending it.

I would literally give RWBY a 7.0-7.8 out of 10. Yeah, I can criticize the show.

But I'm not going to hate it and claim it is somehow the worst thing in existence.Because saying that, is not criticism but hatred.

Try scrolling through a YouTube comment section and you notice that somebody had briefly mentioned RWBY in a completely neutral manner... They had six replies and all six of those replies where people either talking bad about the show or mocking them for even mentioning the show at all.

There are so many examples of that every day, every week.

The fact thatact that six people still went out of their way to attack someone just mentioning something they didn't like.

Even if RWDE were objectively right they are not going to bridge any gap by simply dismissing the feelings of a fandom has as a mere boogie man they dreamed up.

That might as well be gaslighting.

The problem with RWBY Critics is always the same thing.

Even when they acknowledge somebody else's argument or reasoning it comes with a but. RWDE can't just agree with someone its always "I agree but here's why RWBY is still bad....."

The problem is that the "critics" believe that word entitles them to be as caustic about the show, the creators, and even the fandom (as these countless threads attest to...) as they want to be—

—but no one is allowed to criticize them in turn.

Anyone can go to the RWBYcritics subreddit and see what constitutes "criticism" to these folks. They can go to FNKI and see the kind of "memes" that RWBYcritics users post there.

THE HATEDOM EXISTS, IT IS NOT A BOOGEYMAN

Say you like a show. You may not love everything about it, but there's plenty of good things in it for you to appreciate. There are people who voice criticisms of the work, but in your mind, all of their ideas of what's bad about it and what would make it better are poor ideas.

Would you believe that people who criticize a work you enjoy are more important than the people like yourself who enjoy it?

Because that's fundamentally why a lot of people use the word HTDM to describe bad faith criticism regarding RWBY: there are people who are constantly complaining about the show and its fandom, yet at the same time have the attitude that the show needs to cater to their specific tastes and desires, instead of what the writers have decided. These people can just move on, and go for a different media. Yet such people remain to claim that they are not haters, that there is no hatedom, and the people defending RWBY are somehow toxic? It is not toxic to defend a show. And hating on a show and wishing for it to be canceled or rebooted according to your specific tastes and ideas is not criticism.

I'm under no delusions that RWBY has faults. However a lot of criticism hinges on literally ignoring things characters have said, done or observations made about them in the show before something happened. Aka , Adam Taurus and James Ironwood.

Critics can say that haters don't represent them, but they don't really care that much about that side of the problem as much as they care to point out the problems they see in the "enjoyers" side. Truth of the matter is, they are completely free to write about whatever they want, and no one forces them to address that if they don't want to, that said, let it be known that as long as that pattern continues the "outsiders' stigma" will continue indefinitely because in the eyes of most of the fandom they will be seen as nothing more than another person victimized or complaining because "x person didn't agree with x argument" even if it isn't the case.

When you accuse the fandom of “manufacturing its own Boogeyman”...you’re basically denying that the hate against the actually exists.

I'm also not talking about alternate interpretation. I'm talking about something like if Ruby says she really loves cats and then, after having a positive interaction and liking a cat, people saying "But Ruby likes Dogs because Zwei! She can't like a cat."

If the show tells you something about a character, you should listen

Alternately they don't like the character arc of someone, which is fine. But calling it bad writing because you don't like it is ridiculous. (This isn't specific to a character) Idiot ball is bad writing, ignoring multiple indications a character is a moron then calling it bad writing when they do something stupid is you having a lack of narrative comprehension.

All I ask is that people please look around, see how many posts there are complaining about or disliking the show. See how many memes are posted in the associate subreddit R/Fnki that are complaining about the show, the writers, and the female characters. There is so much hatred against RWBY and its fans, and I am stunned that there are people denying its existence. The RWBY fandom did not create its own boogeyman or boogeywoman. That would require that bad-faith criticism does not exist, but it does exist and it thrives.

I am going to do my best to not only promote positivity about RWBY, but also promote good-faith criticism, that will critique RWBY in a respectful manner. Because if we are not being respectful in our criticisms, if we refuse to say nice things about the show's writing that we are critiquing? Then what are we doing? Because its certainly not criticism.

What I have noticed that RWBY seems to function like a number of shows sort of like Steven Universe, where people who haven’t seen the show will go into it with negative thoughts due to the popularity of negative accessible content on RWBY.

Take a look at RWBY on Twitter, YouTube, etc. many videos on the show are very negative. Especially ones talking about the series overall. People who haven’t seen the show and want to see if it’s worth their time won’t exactly be getting positive vibes about the show from the people around them.

A RWBY Fan will you tell you to watch RWBY. A RWBY Critic will tell you to drop the show after the 3rd season, and just write fanfiction about Jaune, Adam, Roman...aka the men.

This isn’t to say its wrong that this is happening. It’s just a fact that this is the way it is, and it’s part of the reason why RWBY has such an intrinsically negative vibe to it in the eyes of so many people.

Once again it’s like the countless number of random strangers who dogpile shows like Steven Universe without even watching it. Of course this also doesn’t mean RWBY is some special snowflake in this instance. Plenty of shows suffer from this, however I do believe that this leads to a pretty huge upward climb for these types of media to take to be loved by audiences. Much more than some other media.

SpaceBattlesforum there was a user saying things about how the RWBY fandom was a hatedom. Or about not wanting to be considered part of the fandom due to all its critiques and bad faith towards the series. As, if, in most of the fandom the popular opinion was of hate towards the series.

It's true a lot of the fandom goes too far with hatedom but RWBY is also part of culture war and an easy target for incels/misogynists to sh*t on RWBY

A lot of incels hate RWBY just for having women and will deadname certain groups and characters in the of criticism. Cough Cough Unicorn of War.

Conclusion, RWBY IS OVERHATED

If you want to hate a show? Fine, but don't call your hatred criticism.

If you want to criticize a show, at least be prepared to have nice things to say when you make a critique, otherwise don't be surprised if people call your material "hatred."

A critic is NOT a victim of a fandom, nor are they persecuted for not liking the show. But they do harass and persecute others for liking the show. Cough Cough, FatmanFalling harassing people for enjoying RWBY, and every single RWBY Youtuber defending his behavior.

If you feel that a show could be better? That's fine, but don't claim that means the show is bad because it does not cater to your tastes or desires.

If somebody does not share your dislike of a show, that's fine, but allow them to like the show, and don't accuse them of toxic positivity, simply because they're defending something you dislike.

If somebody wants to watch a show you don't like? Please allow them to see the show for themselves, don't try to stop them from watching a show just because you're not happy with said show.

And if you don't like RWBY for its writing or plot? Move On! There are so many shows out there, PLEASE let us enjoy this one!

I think the critics of RWBY are full of it. While RWBY isn’t perfect and the show does deserves criticism, there is a obsessive and parasitic part of the fanbase that does everything it can to tear down ever little detail they can find while ignoring any good parts, there are legitimate criticisms and and analysis but acting like it’s not over-hated is ignoring a very real abusive part of the fandom. And I’ve never met a RWBY Critic who didn’t try to defend that abusive part of the fanbase by whining that saying “RWBY SUCKS!” is criticism and we should just be grateful that they’re shoving it down our throats.

I'm not kidding about the 7.5 out of 10. RWBY is a mid-show, but its an enjoyable show to me and many others. So yes, I'll say nice things about it.

FYI, this post was well-received on r/RWBY, till r/RWBYCritics had it removed from r/RWBY through pressure.

r/RWBYCritics does not allow discourse. They silence you, and then claim to be victims of the fandom.

I don't think anyone seriously expects a RWBY Critic to take responsibility for them but rather acknowledge that they do exist.

You can't expect the fandom to get better if you're just going to dismiss their concerns by calling it a boogie man that they made up.

And if you spread lies about the people defending the show, making up false statements, and half-truths? Then RWDE community has established itself as a culture that tries to silence positivity and healthy discussion, rather than respect it.

Plot Structure Analysis for Love in the Air (so far. Spoilers to Ep 6)

Wrote this for my fave subreddit. Posting here too.

Some Notes:

1. Feel free to jump in fellow romance and writing lovers if you feel my beats are placed wrong. Haven't done this in awhile and it's a lot easier to do this on a novel than a drama series.

2. Plot breakdowns can sometimes break immersion for viewers and ruin the viewing experience because your brain starts thinking analytically and you can't just ride the story wave anymore. If this is you, don't read this, treat yourself by fully experiencing the romance. You deserve it.

3. This’ll probably be long and i'm drunk. Lets goooooo

The Romance Is The Plot

I know, I know, people might be saying “what plot does LITA even have?” But these are people who forget romance novels exist, even though the genre sells so hard that it rakes in nearly double the dollars of the next closest genre (which is crime/mystery, in case you're curious).

This is not a surprise because, especially in the west, romance novels very rarely get adapted.

Can you sense my derision at western media for looking down on romance? Because it's there.

Not all romance novels are the same, some have a lot more external plot stuff.

General format:

A Plot (aka Romance Plot) = 51% to 100%

B, C, D plot (aka everything else) = 0% to 49%

Love in the Air is like, 94% romance plot, 6% everything else. These are numbers I just made up, but I feel in my drunkenness that they are 100% correct.

So What Is A Romance Plot?

It's a character focused plot, driven by 2 (or more for poly/harem) individuals who are lacking something that they find in each other in order to achieve their HEA (Happily Ever After or Happy For Now).

This means that all the tension and excitement that comes from watching the story unfold MUST come from the character's interactions and relationship progress. Each moment builds upon the next to take another step towards their HEA. Even when a character takes a step back, like Rain does when Payu bans him from visiting, it's because something needs to change for that character before they can move on in the relationship.

If you, as a viewer, do not feel the tension between the main characters and get invested in their relationship, then you will find a heavy Romance Plot very, very boring. It's like reading a mystery, but not caring what the reveal will be. You might not connect with the characters, you prefer romance's with bigger side plots, or you just aren't into romance at all.

Love in the Air relies on Payu and Rain's relationship and their interactions to drive the story. That's the only plot available to attract viewers (except for PrapaixSky fans who diligently look for crumbs each week - my heart goes out to you all). Luckily, Boss and Noeul have great chemistry and the script has a good build up of the relationship beats.

Time To Break This Plot Into Parts

Story Theme: This is easy, it's "Love always wins" (or any variation of this). This is ALWAYS the main theme for a romance, though it doesn't have to be the ONLY theme.

I'll be using Gwen Hayes' Romancing the Beat for the beats because ICONIC.

The flashforward of the race is technically a Prologue so...skip!

PHASE 1:

Intro to Rain and Intro to Payu

These first 2 beats generally introduce the character's 'regular life' before they're disrupted by each other. However, LITA has Payu and Rain run into each other immediately when Payu changes Rain's tire. Although this is a meet cute, it's not THE Meet Cute beat. It just serves to show the difference between our characters-- Rain gets a flat, doesn't know what to do and panics, but Payu is capable and friendly enough to help a stranger. It's a tease for the relationship to come, shows there's a physical attraction component, and adds to the 'nice guy' Payu persona (with some ominous musical hints that he might not be so nice).

Switch to the classroom the next day.

Rain's External Goal is introduced here, which is to date Ple. But his Internal Need is actually stated here as well, when he's talking about Biker Guy to Sky. He wants someone who'll listen to his talking and who doesn't find his exuberance annoying.

This is brought up again later in the series, when Rain worries Payu finds him annoying after telling him not to visit anymore and also when Sky tells Rain he doesn't actually find him annoying, just determined. it's the basis of Rain's character flaw/wound/desire thing.

Here we also get an inaccurate intro to Payu, described through the eyes of Ple and Sky, he's practically perfect. There are tiny clues here that this might not be the full picture, like how no one knows what business his family owns, but otherwise it's meant to lull Rain (and us) into a false impression of Payu.

Side note: This is actually why I wish they'd left out the flashforward, so that we could have really fallen for this fakeout.

Meet Cute

This beat is actually their second meeting, at the frat party thing. We already know Rain finds Payu hot, this is where we find out it's the same for Payu. They're attracted to each other, but Rain's oblivious.

Payu: "If you're trying to seduce me, do it better next time."

Rain: Doesn't deny it while staring deeply into Payu's eyes, proceeds to hold onto his hand, and lets Payu rub him with a towel on his bed. 🌈✨🏳‍🌈

Payu: "Let me know if I'm too rough."

Rain: This is totally normal bro stuff. He's not hitting on me at all.

If you use Save The Cat to analyze story structure, the Meet Cute beat lines up with the Catalyst.

No Way 1

Rain finds out Payu is not the nice, perfect gentleman the rest of the world thinks he is. While Rain finds Payu handsome, he's not ready to face his feelings and just jump into bed with him so he hits him with a pillow, and proceeds to tell him he'd never get with him. (never ever ever).

Adhesion

This beat is Rain finding out Payu fixed up his car and didn't charge money for it. This debt is (supposedly) why Payu keeps seeking out Rain. But this is just an excuse created by Payu to stay in Rain's orbit. Anything to flirt with Rain, amirite?

This is also the section where we get the first introduction of what Payu's character desires/needs. brought up by Saifah when he says, "Then get into a serious relationship if you want to be like me." So Payu wants a serious, long term relationship, but he's been single a long time.

Payu’s a very self-aware character, since his internal and external goals are very similar, he won't have as much of a character change as Rain.

Internal Payu: Form a serious relationship with someone who welcomes the challenging demands he puts on a partner.

External Payu: Get Rain to date him and see if he's the guy who can handle it.

PHASE 2:

No Way 2

This beat is Rain kissing Payu and telling him he's going to make him fall in love with him toward the end of episode 2. I know it might sound counterintuitive for this to be a No Way beat, but here, Rain is outwardly denying his own feelings. He's going to make Payu fall in love, but not get entangled himself. Payu also plays it cool to Rain, challenging him and acting as if he's not affected by Rain, but since us viewers get to hear him talking to himself, we know better. The other 'no way' moments, like the ones that occur earlier in the university bathroom, build up to this bigger moment. They aren't the actual No Way 2 beat.

Inkling

Payu comforts Rain after he gets chewed out by the professor. This beat usually has a slight perspective shift for our characters. While we see the growing attraction throughout episode 3, it's not until this moment that Rain wonders why he went to Payu when he felt so down.

We also see a small shift in Payu. He said he wouldn't comfort Rain, but he's unable to resist and turns back to do it anyway. Payu starts taking Rain more seriously after this point and brings out a tougher challenge by banning Rain from visiting.

If you use Save The Cat to analyze story structure, this and the next couple beats line up with the Fun & Games section.

Deepening Desire

Rain decides to go all in and continue pursuing Payu, showing that he can handle school at the same time. His external goal has changed from Ple to Payu, which now matches his internal goal - a partner who listens to him talk and doesn't find him annoying. Payu has a conversation during this section with Saifah about how none of Payu's other partners have stuck around this long because of his tricks. As Rain exhibits his determination to have a relationship, Payu falls deeper and deeper.

Maybe

This is the 'getting vulnerable and opening up to each other' beat. Rain's confession in the rain to Payu and the beginning of the First Sex Scene.

Midpoint

This is pretty much just,

"Rain belongs to P'Payu now. Say it"

"Rain belongs to Payu."

And a little of the happy-morning-after before Rain takes off. It's the sweet moment before the down beats start.

PHASE 3

This is a low angst drama so all these following down beats get resolved very quickly. If this was high angst, they'd be drawn out a lot longer, some resulting in actual fights or breakups.

Inkling of Doubt

Payu shows up at Rain's, upset that he took off without telling him. Payu pulls away from Rain before it's resolved by Rain's apology. Here we get the introduction to Payu's fear (plus foreshadowing), telling Rain not to disappear on him again.

Note: I'm not sure Payu's breakup fakeout is part of this beat, but honestly, I'm not thinking about it too hard because I'm flagging, the Long Island Iced Teas are leaving my bloodstream, is this even coherent? I need a nap.

Save The Cat: Bad Guys Close In beat.

Deepening Doubt

This is where the real world starts to intrude on their relationship. Rain finds out Ple and Som🍎🍊 are after his boyfriend. He feels jealous but doesn't want to admit it to Payu. This section is also when Sky runs into our couple on their date and Payu admits he wasn't sure Rain would want to tell him about their relationship.

The movie date scene is where we get a nice visual of how each of them have satisfied their internal goals. Payu listens to Rain as he goes on nonstop about the movie and he now has the serious relationship that he wanted.

Retreat

This beat kicks off when Saifah suggests taking Rain to the race and Payu initially doesn't want to because of the rich assholes who'll attend, then covers most of the night race scenes. Rain is visibly hesitant when he's there. He's finally entering Payu's world, but is unsure of himself. He starts to realize how dangerous it might be and this becomes the foundation of his new fear revealed in the next beat. Payu lets the arrogant rich kid get under his skin. He gets upset and Rain has to coax him out of it.

Shields Up

Payu's race isn't really a romance beat, it's an external plot point that's a catalyst for this beat. Payu wants to race the rich boy jerk and Rain doesn't want him to. Since we've covered a lot of ground for Rain's character arc, it's time to introduce a new fear - fear that Payu will get hurt. Payu admits he doesn't exactly have a logical reason for the race (it's just pride/ego).

This is resolved by Rain not letting his fear get in the way of supporting Payu and Payu realizing during the race how unimportant this loser is. Sex with Rain is more important. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Break Up

The kidnapping (sort of). This beat is PROBABLY Payu finding Rain missing. It usually involves the characters fear which, for Payu, is Rain disappearing. And for Rain, Payu getting hurt.

One interesting thing Mame has chosen to do here, that helps maintain the low angst romance style, is had them reach their internal goals early, but started slowly introducing external troubles in order to maintain tension in the back half of the drama (of PayuxRain's section). Kidnapping may not seem low angst, but within the Romance Plot structure it is because it's not an internal conflict causing them to fight/breakup. Their relationship remains solid.

What's left? Pretty much all of Phase 4.

Dark Night of the Soul

Wake up/Catharsis (Save The Cat: Break Into Three beat)

Grand Gesture (Save The Cat: Finale beat)

What Hole-hearted Looks Like

Epilogue

It looks like we have a lot of beats left for this couple, but these final ones usually happen quite quickly, sometimes even in the same scene. They all deal with overcoming your fear and the Happily Ever After. I have some ideas, but I prefer to just watch it all play out instead of solidifying my predictions. It's more fun to watch when I turn off Writer Brain.

How Prime Exists in Multiple Places at Once - Theories

How Prime is able to exists in multiple places at the same time?

[This post is copy/pasted/remixed from multiple reblog posts I wrote for the Rick C-137 & Prime Masterpost on Rick and Morty. I'm putting my thoughts in its own post for organisational purposes.]

The Central Finite Curve:

In the season 3 backstory, Prime says: "Once we give you this technology, you become the smartest thing in every conceivable universe. The Infinite Rick."

So, not just within the Central Finite Curve?

In the first episode of season 6, C-137 tries to fly through the tear in the universe that Evil Morty created. This tear goes beyond the Central Finite Curve. C-137 does this to try and find Prime.

Evil Morty escapes the Finite Curve to get away from Ricks, because the Finite Curve is the multiverse where Rick became the smartest person in that dimension, cutting off access to other dimensions where he isn't.

MantiH on the subreddit made a visual diagram to help illustrate the Central Finite Curve's relationship with the rest of the Multiverse. (Source: Reddit)

So for example, Simple Rick's dimension is "16 iterations" off from the Finite Curve (red zone), while Doofus Rick is (we assume) is from inside the Finite Curve (green zone).

So Prime could have somehow found a way to access a part of the multiverse (red) that has other Primes (Rick Prime specifically--no labcoat-style Ricks) that the other Ricks of the Finite Curve either didn't know about or knew about and purposefully wanted to cut ties with? Then these alternate Primes got together all simultaneously infiltrated the Central Finite Curve to outsmart C-137 in a "he can't take down all of us" mentality.

Cloning:

During Prime's introductory scene in his lair, he brings up the idea of cloning.

Prime: "I shoot the first monitor too. Listen, I'm not here... Or am I? There's the clone you found. Or maybe it's me all naked. Just a little Keyser Söze."

It turns out that Prime is bluffing and that the figure in the escape pod isn't a clone, and is in fact the same Prime that kills Jerry.

But what if he really is a clone, and in fact is one of many Prime clones? That would explain how he can be detected in multiple places at once.

In season 5, there's an entire episode (Mortyplicity) devoted to the idea of C-137 creating "decoys" to avoid getting killed by his enemies. So what if Prime had the same idea?

Prime Lied About it Being a Recorded Message

This addition was previously made by @jordenn420 in another post.

Prime says: "Obviously, I don't know who I'm talking to here. It's all pre-recorded."

He was lying.

It wasn't pre-recorded.

Prime's eyes follow C-137 as he runs around the lair. This wouldn't be possible if the monitors were just recordings. It was a live broadcast.

Plus, Prime is already an established liar:

Prime: "Look, there he goes. Maybe that actually was me. And if you follow him down there, we can do a big fight. 50 percent chance I'm not lying."

We know the Prime in the glass escape pod was the same one who killed Jerry.

But not just that, observe the eyelines here:

At first, I thought it was cheated perspective (pretty common in animation--it's just more visually-pleasing to use incorrect perspective sometimes) to cheat eyelines (so that all the Primes are looking at C-137). But the perspective of Prime's face is changed so much in the screen-left monitors that his nose has flipped to the other side. It's not just the eyes.

We can eliminate the possibility that Prime is using multiple cameras placed at different angles, since that wouldn't explain how his pupils can be in different positions.

It's not multiple monitors of the same clone. Each monitor is a different clone.

I am constantly thinking about how Edelgard just doesn’t seem designed to appeal to cishet men.

i hate to be the one to break this news to you op but just because a character doesn’t show skin like charlotte fire emblem doesn’t mean she isn’t designed to pander to men. she’s very much designed to pander to the (majority straight male) player base with her ‘uwu i only trust you professor omg did u see that rat? pls don’t look at my painting of you uwu’.

then there’s the whole edelgard c support in japanese where byleth makes reference to having come to her room for ‘yobi’ which is

there’s also the scene where byleth can make an unsolicited comment about edelgard’s breast size. which is… uhh… gross.

edelgard also has cipher cards that go from slightly fanserviceie to full on suggestive

and also her breast armor that my sister relentlessly mocked lol

and here’s a chart from the 3h subreddit about gender/sexually in regards to edelgard and edeleth. it’s extremely straight male. op might have just overlooked this since they probably don’t go on reddit and stay on tumblr (which unlike reddit is mostly female and has a high lgbt demographic).

Like the joke is that Bleagles is the Gay House, but everything about her feels deliberately non-hetero.

She’s dressed in sharp outfits covering her upper body, with proportions that don’t seem exaggerated.

Her poise and the way she effortlessly flourishes her axe exhibits an air of coolness. While titties out =/= character of no substance, Edelgard being dressed more modestly suggests that she wasn’t designed with male-centred fanservice in mind.

And she still looks absolutely stunning in her more modest attire (like seriously, I haven’t felt the need to return to cosplay in years but I want to do her academy look so bad).

yes she does. amazing design 10/10. i have a feeling this is the only part i’m going to agree with

Edelgard is intense. She does not mince her words and she is constantly evaluating you. Though she tries, she has a difficult time understanding her peers initially. Early on, she talks about how she would sacrifice herself and others in the name of some greater good. She is terrible at communicating with her peers. She has to be seen as infallible. Her heart has been hardened for years and she assumes she has to stay that way. She also assumes everyone mourns the same way she does - which is why she (kind of insensitively) insists you move on when Jeralt dies. Because to her, grief has to be channeled towards action, or else you’ll get lost in it. This attitude is demonstrated time and time again as she presses on. It can make her come off as cold and unfeeling - but look closer, and she’s anything but.

don’t really have anything to say at this part. it is pretty on the nose though i would slightly disagree with that last sentence a bit. i wouldn’t say she’s as i feeling as hubert is but all of her talks of the war boil down to how she feels and never her victims.

Her story is ultimately about her realizing that to achieve her goals, she needs to let people in and allow herself to want things like cakes and tea parties and lazy days in peace.

????? what ????? her goals include imperialism, ethnic and religious targeting. her story is about having a set of beliefs and mowing down anybody who stands in her way. that has nothing to do with tea, friends, and lazy days. also am i supposed to be sad that she has to get up everyday and work? i do that and i didn’t start a war and only throw a pity party for myself

The game leaves the player guessing as to how involved the Flame Emperor was in each Part I event, makes you feel hurt by her betrayal, and leaves you with a choice: do you follow the orders of the woman who tried to make you a god without your consent, or a young girl with questionable morals about to throw the world into upheaval?

this isn’t an ideal situation but i think i’m going to stick with the woman who tried to make me a god since i’m not selfish and i know it’s not only my desires and life at stake here. plus the green hair slaps ngl

Choosing her of your own volition (not for completionist reasons) requires the basic ability to sympathize with a woman’s pain. It also requires the player to read beyond her unwavering will and dubious methods to get a sense of how deep that pain goes and how the theme of humanity relates to her differently in each route.

i’m not going to touch this since @nilsh13 made a post on it that i’ll link here. i agree with everything he said so to repeat it would be redundant.

The player must be able to see a young woman’s desperate resolve to change the world so it stops exploiting people and ruining lives. They must be able to accept the fact that women can make the same morally wrong and ambivalent decisions that complicated male characters get to make all the time and still be the one to root for.

literally the same reason i love rhea lol her goddess experiments are dubious at best but her reasons are the same you mentioned. i would say that i like this quality in edelgard too if her ending, while bloody, actually ended in a good outcome for fodlan.

This is not unique to LGBT+ people, but this population is likely to understand why Edelgard feels so strongly about why she has to change the system.

i understand wanting to change a system, i really do. like edelgard, i’m an opinionated bisexual woman (who’s also physically disabled) so yeah i get it. and change can be good but it can also be terrible. even if the church was the boogeyman edelgard treats it as she still replaces it with her own shit regime. so it’s the same circus just with a new conductor.

I don’t think “Edelgard gets undue criticism because she’s a woman” captures the full picture. An important aspect of her treatment by certain parts of the fandom is that she’s a radical woman.

or maybe she does some pretty fucked up shit and it goes unacknowledged in her own route. and yeah she’s radical but in all the worst ways.

Her hatred of the Church and the Crest system resonates way harder with people who have been hurt by institutions that are deeply engrained in our society.

and what about people who have been hurt by systems where their ‘merit’ didn’t measure up and they were left behind? what about people from nations that experienced imperialism?

Siding with her means siding against the Church - which, while different from real world religious institutions, still invokes language about “sin” and “punishment.

yeah the ‘sins’ and ‘punishments’ are used in relation to attempted murders which i think everybody can agree is a bad thing that needs to be condemned.

Choosing Edelgard will likely hit different if homophobic and transphobic Christians used that rhetoric against you.

it has literally nothing to do with ‘sins’ and ‘punishments’ in regards to being gay or trans. that’s you projecting. especially since the church has 2 canon gay characters and two coded ones.

like i can understand why having a church condemn you can be uncomfortable but i’m begging you to please look at the context of what’s happening.

I’m willing to go out on a limb and say that the reason F/F Edeleth is the more popular iteration of that ship because most people who would choose to S-support Edelgard are LGBT+ themselves. This is not a revelation. To anyone in the community, it’s fairly obvious.

edelgard gets to learn how to be human all while hunting those who don’t. and she doesn’t listen fo her friends. she doesn’t even trust them. she’s willing to talk to byleth but keep the people who’s been by her side for five years in the dark about everything. and yeah she gets to enjoy her new words since she’s on top. hate to be a commoner under her rule after she burned down my village in her war.

I love this character so much.

clearly. and i honestly don’t care if somebody likes her. i do as well even if my sometimes scathing words can make it seem otherwise.

It has been six months since I first played and I am still analyzing her,

because there’s so much depth. Yet so many people fail to see that depth and dismiss her as evil,

Getting Over It: This another rage game! It is quite funny but like I said it is a Rage Game so there is screaming and yelling involved!

Pogo Stuck: This is a somewhat kind of rage game! It first starts out with Bob, Wade, and Mark playing it. But then Mark starts playing it by himself and yes there is some yelling and screaming in the videos so fair warning!

Uno: This is quite a hilarious game series! It’s Mark and his friends playing the online game of Uno!

Monopoly: This a goo game series and is quite hilarious! It’s Mark, Bob and Wade and there is one where Lixian joins! It really funny and think you might enjoy it!

Undertale: The best way to start you off with JackSepticeye is one of his most famous series of all time, Undertale! Undertale is about a human that falls in the Monster World and go about it learning the Monster World while trying to get home! It’s a text based game and Jack does the voices for the characters!

Deltarune: The Sequel to Undertale! Or that’s what everyone seems to be calling it! I haven’t had the chance to watch the series but I’ve heard it’s really good!

Slime Rancher: Literally you are a Rancher raising all kinds of different slimes! It’s really cute and funny!

Cuphead: This is a very old school cartoon like style game. There is some violence in it but it’s mild and no more then what actual cartoons, like Tom and Jerry and the Animatics.

Bendy and the Inc Machine: This is a horror game but it’s not the scary! There are some jump scares but it’s more like FNAF kind of jump scare. So, it will be scare ya but not that much. It’s like a cartoon horror game. Again some violence in the game but it’s mild. This also kinda of spawn the idea of the JSE Fan Made Ego Shawn Flynn! Jack has a cameo in the game!

Animal Crossing: Nice little story driven game that Jack plays on his switch. It’s very cute and it’s a nice little game to series to watch!

Spiderman: Jack finally gets to play as his all time favorite Super Hero from his childhood! Spiderman!

Spiderman Miles Morales: The next gen starts now! With the new Spiderman! This game is based of the movie Spiderman into the Spider verse and I can’t wait to watch it and watch this series of Jack’s!

Spyro 3: Remake: This is a cute series of the game Spyro 3 redone for the PS3! It’s super cute and a lot of fun! I think you might enjoy this one!

Minecraft: Like I said, I’m not into Minecraft but this is a nice and cute series that Jack has! Filled with a lot of Adventure and some scary events!

Meme Time!: A cute series that Jack started where he goes on his Subreddit and looks at some of our Memes that we did!

Luigi’s Mason 3: I can’t make a playlist for someone to watch and not include this! This is so cute and wholesome! It’s all from Luigi’s point of view and how he’s going to try and stop the Ghost King and save his brother and friends!

Among Us: I have to include Jack’s! This is so funny with Jack and his friends! I think you might enjoy this!

Septiscape: First off, this series is near and dear to my heart! This is the first ever series that watched back in 2k18 when I first found Erin’s Channel! This helped me get over my writers block and led to me to writing my first fanfic that I wrote in over a year! This one is an older version but I still love it!

Jack finds himself trapped in his own mind, the Mindscape and is trying to find his way home! Along the way he finds out the Egos that he created are more then just Egos! But at the same time, some sort of Corruption and happening with Jack’s mind and many of the Ego’s Worlds is collapsing!

Septiscape: Livestream #HopeFromHome: This is the livestream of the updated version of the game! It’s about 8 hours long but you can skip some parts, especially since some of the fights can be a bit repetive but I wanted to include this one!

Soulscape: I can’t put in Septiscape and not give you the sequel as well! This is the well awaited sequel to Septiscape! After the adventures of the first game, the Egos go and try to enjoy a nice little R&R only for someone to stalking Anti and trying to take his soul pieces back! Join Anti and the Egos as they try to figure out what it going on and help save Anti before it’s too late! And there is really cool plot twist!

Hearts and Heroes: This is another one that is near and dear to my heart! I will also link Mark’s playthrough as well! Hearts and Heroes and about you the fans of Markiplier and the journey that the fans go through trying to help save people from the Monsters the haunt their dreams and to help save Mark from his worst Nightmare. Septiclands: A JackSepticeye Fan Game: This is very funny series that DolphinTreasureArt has done! It’s silly and goofy and it has a very weird plot but it’s absolutely one of my favorites! It’s also on her longest series as well!

The Boss: A JackSepticeye Fan Game: Just like Heats and Heroes is near and dear to me heart so is this game! I’ll leave a link to Jack’s Playthrough as well! This is near and dear to my heart b/c it’s the first JackSepticeye Fan Game that I came across. It was on Jack’s Channel that first saw it and then I watched Erin’s. This is nice little RPG Game, but it’s about Jack being sucked into his computer and has to try and find his way home! On the way he finds out that there is two subscribers that lost in his computer and there is a major twist at the end!

The Boss Is Nothing: His Side of the Story: I don’t want to give away what happens in the Boss! So, this the other side of the story of The Boss! In the Boss, Jack comes across someone he never thought he would, so now we’re getting his side of the story and why did what he did to Jack!

Glitch in the System: Chapter 1: This is a very special game! It’s the sequel to The Boss! The developers over at Sarcastic Pasta Games is working hard to get chapter two out! Chapter one is really good and you get see Erin do some Cosplay along with some voice acting for the characters/Egos!

Septic Storm: This is a cute little fan game that’s a bit old, but it’s a very cute RPG Game! Join, Jack, Mark and Felix as they battle Billy to end this battle once and for all! Only to find out that Billy isn’t the one that truly is behind this, but someone else entirely!

CrankGamePlays Fan Game: The Crank Chronicles: This is a RPG Fan Game of one Ethan Nester CrankGamePlays! Ethan has find himself in a distant land thanks to the help of a powerful Sorceress! But an evil threatens the land! With help of his two best friends Mark and Tyler, Ethan goes on a quest to help save this land and find his way home! I don’t if the developer ever did the sequel to the this game or not but it’s not a bad game!

The Differences Between Tropical Zodiac, Sidereal Zodiac: Tropical zodiac: The tropical zodiac is calculated by Earth’s orbit around Sun, more commonly known as being calculated by the seasons. For example, March 21st, the Spring Equinox, is the start of Aries, June 21st, the Summer Solstice, is the start of Cancer, and so on. It was used and known before any other further and advanced astronomical accurate data and calculations (including knowledge of the precession of the equinoxes) were known. A bit of an incomplete calculation for the zodiac. The tropical zodiac is primarily used in the West.

“Today’s tropical astrology was established around 139 BC when a Greek named Hipparchus “invented the modern version of the tropical zodiac with the equinox fixed in Aries 0 degrees to facilitate the measurements of the positions of the fixed stars in the equatorial system, that is, in Right Ascension and Declination, which are essentially tropical coordinates. Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevesky

Last year, I read Anna Karenina by Tolstoy. I had mixed feelings about--it was at times incredible and moving and at numerous others, an enormous slog. Until a few weeks ago, it was the only Russian classic that I’d read.

Crime and Punishment was one of those books I’d heard of, of course, but it never came onto my radar as something I might want to read until I saw it featured as a “McGuffin” in The Flight Attendant on HBO (I got the novel from the library the other day and will probably be reviewing it in about a month). Then, as luck would have it, I stumbled onto Reddit’s “Classic Book Club” subreddit. They were staring off 2021 with C&P so I decided to join in thinking that reading one chapter per day shouldn’t be too difficult. Instead, the greater challenge was to limit myself to read only one chapter each day!

Spoilers for a 150+ year old classic~~

From the very beginning, I found myself pitying and relating to Rodya, the destitute former student who commits the eponymous crime and suffers its punishment. He’d been keeping to himself inside his (completely disgusting) apartment, reluctant to even run into his land-lady, and moping about without purpose. Despite his poverty, he gives money to the sickly wife of Marmeladov a stranger he meets at a pub, and despite his listlessness, he has actually been formulating a plan to murder and rob the pawnbroker to whom he has sold several possessions.

Then, he does it. He actually does it! 🪓 🪓

And Dostoyevsky presents the reader with the question that is prominent through the novel: Is there good in Rodya’s heart? Or is he a deranged murderer?

To further complicate things, a police detective seems right on his tail thanks to Rodya’s recently published article about criminals and their motivations, and his sister, Dunia, is engaged to Luzhin, a rich, creepy, asshole, and being low-key stalked by Svidrigailov and even creepier asshole. All the while, Rodya goes back and forth about whether or not he should turn himself in or kill himself.

This novel was at times a thriller--so many tense moments between Rodya and the detective, Porfiry--and at others an intense character study and philosophical critique. Is the murder of one “louse”--as Rodya often characterizes his victim--justified if it could help hundreds of others?

That said, Rodya is not a great person and he spends most of the book irritable, sickly, or just plain rude to his friends and family. But when contrasted with the other monstrous men in this book: Marmeladov, whose alcoholism has impoverished and ruined his family; Luzhin who’s looking for a poor but pretty woman to “rescue” through marriage; and Svidrigailov who killed his wife and abused several others, is he that bad? Is he redeemable? Should he be redeemed and like Lazarus, be able to come back to life?

I enjoyed the comparisons between these objectively terrible men--and the contrasts with the more decent male characters, Detective Porfiry, and Rodya’s friend Razumihin. Yet, as a modern reader, I couldn’t help but bristle at the treatment of Rodya’s foil and eventual love interest, Sonia.

Marmeladov’s daughter from his first marriage, Sonia is forced to become a prostitute (a “yellow ticket” as it’s referred to in the book) in order to support her family. She is described as child-like and innocent in her devotion to her family (she is “technically” a young adult) yet the narrative presenters her as sinful as he. “The murder and the harlot” as they’re described shortly before Rodya implores her to go away with him, exclaiming: “we are both accursed, ... [because] you, too, have transgressed... you have laid hands on yourself, you have destroyed a life... your own (it’s all the same!).”

It’s never exactly clear why Sonia likes him, but without her support Rodya never would have been able to confess and--bafflingly--she follows him to Siberia where he is imprisoned. This angered me when I read it in the first part of the epilogue. Why would she follow this loser to the least hospitable part of Russia where he was sentenced to eight years in jail?

But, to my surprise, C&P ends on an optimistic note. Unlike Petersburg, the rural village in Siberia is actually great for Sonia. She helps the prisoners and easily earns the love and respect she deserves from the community. And, thanks to her love, Rodya is able to see the “dawn of a new future, of a full resurrection into a new life.” In my opinion, he’s not exactly redeemed since he’s not all that contrite, but at the very least, he’s less unpleasant and open to changing himself and finding a way to repay Sonia.

This is just scratching the surface of everything that happened within this book. I would absolutely recommend it (here it is on Project Gutenberg). It is exciting, thought-provoking, and timeless; well-deserving of its status as a “classic.”

I agree the suicide scene was just cringe (but i think i remember reading somewhere that they cut it out? idk) and overall this show just gave me the feeling that there was no hope and things are always getting worse instead of better and i hated that. but enough of that cursed show. can i just say i really admire how open you are about your feelings (like being suicidal and that) i realy, really admire this about you. i have so much respect for you that you can just share your feelings here (2)

I have never heard of ace attorney but that story you described sounds really good. and i get reading sth that isnt good for you and still doing it (because im a dumb bitch too :D) -- okay i might accept that Root will never grow on you (but i thought so too and look at me now :D) but i havent fully given up yet :)-- yes thats the girl. i think it was really sweet when she said that to Shaw. and i think Shaw appreciated it that someone tried to figure her out instead of just writting her off (3)

Shaw is really cool and definately also a badass and in combination with John its just great! but you will have to suffer trough some Shoot. but maybe, maybe you will end up not hating Root. hope dies last (idk how the saying goes in english, sorry). -- Did you ever ship Caresse (in a romantic way)? cause sometimes i do and sometimes i dont and i get so confused about it :) but i think most of the time i like them more as friends. anyway her death really sucked and you are right with (4)

her death and them losing the library it felt like a different show (i mean i guess it was a different show then). i kinda get your feelings about the destroyed library because i also really loved it (and im really bad with change) but i dont think it affected me as much as you. but yeah i still missed the library very much. and while the subway is a really cool new place its not the same. (also the subway is super dark cause its underground and idk it just makes the whole thing less homey) (5)

Yes he is everything! such a great, interesting character and i wish there were more John-centric episodes! (like ones that explored his character more). that was one of my biggest dislikes of the later seasons that John wasnt featured as much anymore. i think he chuckled a few times in the show but a real laugh? i cant remember one :( -- He did promise Joss to talk to Tyler so @show were is that talk? -- if seen the vid its awesome! thehiddenmemory has some great poi vids! This is long enough already, so it's time for a read more. Also, warning, we be talking about suicide

The portrayal of suicide is cringe most of the time anyway. If my suicidal ass can find a list of suicide methods and their lethality in 2 mins on Google you'd think writers who are supposed to do some research would be able to find them too but no they're like "ah yes slicing wrists" even though it's literally the shittiest method 🙄 (I just don't understand why slicing wrists seems to be such a popular method in the collective imagination ? It's weird.) At least in 13rw she took aspirin and cut herself vertically instead of horizontally but still, no hesitation wounds, and she dies even though she only got 4 wounds iirc ? I know more about jumping off bridges than slicing wrists, but it kinda sounds like bullshit to me. Also Netflix once suggested "beyond the reasons" to me, it's a sort of discussion with the cast and crew of 13rw and the only thing I remember is a moment of intellectual masturbation abt how they "opened a discussion abt suicide" 😬😬😬

They may have cut it out it's not impossible, idk I didn't hear about it, but it's not like I look for info about this dumpster fire lol. Maybe they faced backlash ? Wouldn't be surprised given how shit the show was. And yeah it has a hopeless vibe, I mean that's how it be when you're suicidal, but I didn't like it either.

You're sweet 💜💜 it's interesting that you find it respectable or admirable, I don't have an external point of view, so I'm just like 🤷 it is what it is. I understand where you're coming from though, I guess it's still quite a taboo subject, and suicidal people don't always feel comfortable talking about it, so me throwing around that I jumped off a bridge must be surprising. I'm detached enough from my suicide attempt that I'm able to talk about it without much of a problem, and I'm not really suicidal anymore.

Yeah I think it's nice how the show didn't portray Shaw as a bad person for not having "normal feelings". Well, hope makes one live as we say in French (idk the English saying either lol) but don't hold much hope about me liking Root lmao

I used to ship careese bc they kissed in the crossing, but then I read some Rinch fics and I just ended up falling into it to the point where I stopped caring about careese. Now I think their relationship works better as a friendship.

Yeah all that change really puts me off... It just gives me "bad spin-off" vibes. Especially since there is less John :( and less Rinch :((((

Mood I need all the John-centric eps, give me m o r e characterization and development and backstory and feelings hhhhhhh. I love him so much I just wanna spend more time with him. And that's what fics are for ! Yeah thehiddenmemory is so talented ! Astolat made some good ones too, on top of writing really good fics ! (Our fandom has been blessed with the presence of one of the ao3 founders hell yeah)

Also, remember how we talked abt the poi subreddit ? The other day I left a comment on there, wild I know. It wasn't a discussion about the last seasons though, I'm not crazy, it was about the impact poi had in our lives so I said it literally taught me English. Who knows maybe sometimes I'll comment again lol. I just don't wanna meet one of those people who prefer late poi over early poi.

Allow me to uuuuh write something based on what you said. Don't ask me how John survived with no major injuries, my man got that Thick Plot Armor alright. Hope you appreciate me getting carried away sjdkdksk it's kinda rushed and the first part isn't that good bc idk how to write Grace I'm just here for that sweet sweet Rinch stuff

Harold is eating breakfast with Grace in her kitchen – he can't think of her home as his home – when his phone vibrates. It's a text from the machine. It's a surprise, she barely contacted him since... He blocks the thoughts and the images coming to his mind. The machine sent him a picture. When he opens it, his heart misses a beat. Right here on his screen is a silhouette he thought he would never see again. His phone vibrates again. Another picture, this time it's unmistakably John, wearing his signature suit, Bear next to him. Transfixed, he stares at his phone until he feels Grace gently touching his arm. She goes straight to the point.

"Is it John ?" He looks up in confusion, but before he can say anything, she adds, "I hear you call him in your sleep every night."

"It's him, yes." He doesn't want to explain. He only wants to see John, to touch him, to tell him how much he loves him.

"You should go back to him. I like you, Harold. I am deeply relieved to see you alive. But I've been thinking, and... It's not working. This, us... You aren't really the man I fell in love with, the man I grieved... I can't trust you anymore." She doesn't say 'You lied to me' but Harold hears it all the same.

Harold sits on their bench. The machine indicated John often comes here. Soon enough, his arms are full of Bear, and John is standing in front of him.

"John. How are you ?" he asks when Bear finally calms down.

"Busy. And you ?"

Harold eyes him suspiciously – John once said he was busy when he was bleeding and way too close to death – but he seems to be well.

"I'm fine." He doesn't have time for awkward small talk." I thought you were dead. Why didn't you contact me ?"

"The machine told me you were with Grace. I thought you wanted to come back to your previous life. I didn't want to crash into it and ruin what you had."

Harold wants to be angry at him, but he understands. He did the same with Grace.

"You would never ruin anything. Besides, my relationship with Grace... didn't survive my lies. She's very dear to my heart, but she's a part of my previous life, as you said."

"So you came back for the machine, and the numbers, like the good old times ?"

Harold gets up from the bench.

"I came back for you. You are an important part of my life. The most important part."

John smiles, finally. He takes a step towards Harold, they're so close they could kiss. Harold reaches out, grips his shirt and slowly inches closer. He's still afraid of being rejected but John wraps his arm around him and kisses him. The kiss is over too soon. John's smile is even wider when they part.

"You're the most important part of my life too," he says before kissing Harold again. "You will stay ?"

"Always."

Damn I live for sappy Rinch stuff.

Bitches decided that Harold saying "always" is peak Rinch. It's me I'm bitches.

Urban Night Cityscape

Idk if someone else noticed, and I'm having this random thought at around 3 am in my country so please bear with me. 😂 I've put this in discussion flair for I wanna hear your thoughts.

Of course for some this may feel sleepy, but there is every meaning behind Urban Night Cityscape's 3 versions. I tend to feel emotions through songs, and this theme suits me the most. You can try this "experiment" by listening this in a city hotel, if you live in a condominium/apartment, or live in or nearby a cityscape like me.

Version 1 | Evening: 5-ish/6 pm - 8 pm

This is the time when formal events usually start. If you notice the tempo, it's sounds formal and professional. Very Jumin, of course. And since it mimics the formal event of the evening, you could feel the introduction; "Good evening, I am Director Han Jumin of C&R International." kind of vibe. It makes you feel the impression you should give and act towards him; no more, no less.

Version 2 | Early Night: 8 pm - 12 am

Realistically, this is the time when the shops close, and when the formal events end. You could feel the night is getting deeper. In the game, this version introduced Jumin's "tangled threads". You can start to feel the feels as the tempo goes slower and more melancholic; as if you're getting ready to be alone in your own world. He also mentioned that this is the best time to work for him, which is true (for me) since the night is getting serene. It could be easily feel if you both are in the same shoes.

Version 3 | Late Night: 12 am - 3 am

Ah yes, the midnight/late night thoughts. Jumin has a habit of sleeping late, most noticeable in his route. You can notice its tempo has gone even slower and deeper, "grasping through emotions". I find it easier to somehow organize thoughts and acknowledging suppressed emotions here, and accepting the fact that you were lonely and no one understands completely, so you have to repress it again. And yes, just staring at the night sky, city lights, and the moon can give a sense of comfort. It's not easy for some to open up for it takes trust and courage, and this version plays about it. Again, it would be easier to feel if you both are in the same shoes (I mean, not on the exact reasons but the sentiments themselves).

Pretend you like me to get taken out on expensive dates? I'll trick you into paying!

So this one might be a bit tame for this subreddit, but hopefully you guys still get a kick out of it. I am new to the subreddit and just reddit in general, so I'd love to hear your feedback! (Also gonna be a long one so hold on to your butts)

For context, my family is in a very fortunate position finacially, and I would describe myself as upper-middle class. This story happened a few years ago when I was at university. It was a fairly small university, so many of the students lived locally, in a generally very working-class area. I also have a twin brother who goes to a different university nearby, who has a small part to play in this story.

I had never really had much luck with dating due to having some pretty niche hobbies and interests, so it was hard to find people I can relate to and really click with, but I would always get on, and remain friends with people if things didn't work out. I ended up dating a few girls on the uni netball team, they all seemed nice but again, it was clear we were not a great match. Because I stayed on good terms with everyone, I ended up spending a lot of time around the people I had previously dated, but just as friends. Consequently, most people on the netball team were familiar with me.

Enter the greedy girl (GG). She was a bit of an outlier in the team and didn't speak much, so nobody knew much about her. One day, she comes up to me and asks me out on a date, this was a nice surprise as I was normally the one asking, so I said yes, as I had no reason to dislike her at this point. After I say yes we chat for a bit and she keeps trying to shoehorn into conversation the fact that she, like many others around here, doesn't have a lot of money. I didn't really think about it too much at the time, but in hindsight it was obvious.

To keep the story short, I won't explain the dates, we went on 3 before I realised how greedy she was. All you guys need to know is that I paid for everything on every date, but I didn't mind doing this. We normally went out on weekends.

One day I went to the library to get some work done, the desks have tall partitions between them for independent work, but whispering was still allowed in this area. Over the partition in front of me I hear GG's voice whispering to a friend. I begin to stand up to say hi, but stop myself to listen to their conversation just before my head emerged over the top. She was talking about me, calling me things like a "posh c*nt", but saying she was going to let me take her on a few more dates because I took her to fancy bars and bought her expensive drinks. I thought about it and realised that she had always gone for the most expensive drinks on our dates so far, so I decided it was time for some revenge. I left the library without being seen. A few days later I actually saw her driving a brand new BMW Z4, so she was clearly pretty damn rich herself.

The best and fanciest bar in this town was owned by my best friend and her family. It was a small bar, but very high-end, with some of the drinks being over £15 for a VERY small drink. Therefore, not many of the students went in, but if you were invited there on a date, it was a special one. I spoke to my friend, whose family owned the bar, and got her in on my plan for revenge, ensuring she would have my back if things went wrong. I was pretty paranoid about getting caught, because I planned on tricking GG into paying for everything that night, up to a total of the cost of ALL the previous dates combined (in excess of £250). To cover my tracks, I asked my twin brother if he wanted to go out with my friends to the pub, telling him my plan and that I would give him some money if he went out dressed like me and with his hair styled the same. I also told him to take plenty of pictures with my friends so I had an alibi.

The night of the date came around, the bar was busy but we managed to get a table. I immediately lied to her, saying I had forgotten my card, but if she paid I could transfer her the money later, she agreed. (I had done this for real on the second date, and paid her back as soon as I got home, so she knew I was reliable) I told her to stay sat down and save the table, while I went and ordered drinks and the biggest and fanciest tapas plate on the menu from the bar. My friend, pretending she didn't know me, as agreed, served me the drinks. GG seemed to be in disbelief of my generosity and pretended that she was having one of the best dates of her life. I also pretended to be enjoying it, continuing to buy expensive food and drink until I had nearly spent the target £250 on her card. The dessert section of the bar's menu is titled "Just Desserts", finding this oddly appropriate for my revenge, I asked her if she wanted her "Just Desserts", pointing at the menu. She laughed and said yes, so I went up to the bar once again with her card, and ordered 2 of the super deluxe chocolate fudge cakes, I told my friend to keep one for herself for when her shift ends, and if they could write "F*ck You" on top of GG's. (The bar has candles with letters on for birthdays etc.) I then returned to GG, handed her card back, and told her I was going to the gents bathroom. I left, never repaid the money and went to join my mates and brother at the pub.

GG confronted me in front of the netball team a few days later, but I just acted confused, telling her I was out with my friends that night, and showed her the selfies my brother had taken with my mates when she tried to argue with me. The ENTIRE netball team took my side and stopped speaking to her. GG has since left the netball team and from what I can tell I don't think she has many friends now. I had a fantastic night of revenge with fine food and drink at her expense, my friend got a fudge cake, my brother got some money and all the lads got to go to the pub. All in all, I found it SUPER satisfying, as EVERYONE but GG was happy.

Winston Programming Headcanons

hi I’m here to dump WAY too many headcanons for how Winston works. please talk to me about them. i beg of u guys,,,,

he's one of those people on stack overflow who marks your question as duplicate, closes it, and links you to another post that doesn't answer your question. and it's instantaneous because he has a Fuckload of points on that hellhole site.

he likes Matlab :/

but he also definitely is in the arrays begin at 0 camp like any sane person is

he's on the spaces side for tabs vs spaces, but he'll use soft tabs (tabs that turn into spaces)

brackets on the same line kinda guy (he’s wrong but that’s who he is)

he uses all the languages he mentioned in the math meetup scene but his favorite language is python because of its hella Dope math library (shoutout to math.py, i never fuckin use it)

second favorite is C. he loves the power of direct memory manipulation for getting into the Nitty Gritty. and he's not afraid to bust out assembly.

but because he switches between those two a lot, semicolons (or the lack thereof) fucks him over frequently

he uses vim. like he really uses vim. he's got one of those colored keyboards with the popular shortcuts and commands on it. his vimrc file is something he custom wrote and he’s Very Proud of it. he’s got the whole custom highlighting thing going on.

this man cannot survive without his Multitude of bash scripts.

watching him try to work on someone else’s computer is like watching a baby try to walk. his setup is so specific to him and what he needs to work that anything else just Doesn’t Work for him. he’ll try to do one of the shortcuts he’s set up that he’s so used to and nothing happens and he’s just :o

at least one of his six monitors is always just playing random youtube/netflix stuff in the background as he works, but as soon as he really really needs to focus he turns it off so he can figure stuff out.

frantic whiteboard pseudocoding as he tries to map out what he sees in his head for other people to understand or before he loses it. his handwriting is messy and barely legible. there are 5 expo markers laying around on his desk, all of which are shitty and out of ink, but he forgets to get new ones. he loves those white board desks and he’s shoved everything off a desk before so he can write on it.

writes down bits of code on whatever he can when he figures out how to do something that he’s been stuck on

if he’s having a particularly hard time on something at the moment, he tries to take a break but it still Consumes his thoughts. he angrily paces around the Quant Dungeon a lot, trying to calm down but Failing.

spends Hours Not Reading The Documentation and then getting angry when he finally resigns looks at it and it solves all his problems

he likes watching those videos on youtube that visualize all the different sorting algos (i really,,,, really,,,,, like doing this) ((idk maybe he does this as a visual stim maybe))

favorite data struct is leftist heaps. he likes the organized balance.

favorite sorting algo is merge sort because he likes seeing all the elements being broken down and then coming back together, in an organized order.

he uses Arch, btw. (im sorry please don’t kill me for this im very sorry)

he judges you based on what Linux distro you prefer, all while knowing people judge him the Most for using Arch.

he goes to meetup.com programming meetups and tries and fails to make friends

he’s in the ACM special interest group for econ and computation

if god forbid he has to pair program, he’s the most MISERABLE motherfucker to work with. if he’s the one driving, he won’t listen to any suggestions and if he’s the one watching, then he’s backseat programming the entire time.

he's not into hacktivism personally but he likes reading about it and knowing the Lore as well as reading about cybersecurity/penetration testing

he definitely submits memes to r/programmerhumor and then also complains that the subreddit is too general

he likes what he does but he doesn't usually program off the clock. but sometimes he'll get an idea for a personal project!!

his has exactly one personal project at a time. it either gets finished or it doesn’t before he moves onto the next one.

his personal GitHub is silent for months and then suddenly for a week straight it's dark green before fading into silence again

doesn’t like working from home. he really needs the separation between his work space and his living space.

very cryptic and unhelpful commit messages. when trying to roll back he hates himself because he has no IDEA what him in the past meant by “node updated,” because WHAT IN THE NODE WAS UPDATED??? he didn’t write it down and now it’s been two months since he’s looked at this code and he has no fucking clue.

names his variables funky things, also causing trouble for himself down the line.

sometimes leaves a dangling else statement when he writes an if, as if daring the if statement not to execute

leaves funny comments for himself in his code and other non helpful comments for whoever has to work on his code/maintain it after him. literally all sorts of remarks except for describing what his code actually does. job security! until he forgets how the fuck he did something, which is honestly only like two months later.

has definitely done the “//don’t touch, this works by magic” comment and the “//don’t refactor and come crying to me when it breaks” comment

this is probably his second real job out of college. he reads early-mid 20s to me, and so he’s definitely doing that comp sci thing where you hop around companies every few years to get a massive pay raise.

i think he only has his bachelor’s degree, but he definitely went to cornell. double major in comp sci and math. or comp sci and econ. definitely possible he has his masters though. i think if so he went to upenn for it and focused on the econ side there.

his internship during college is at a place that works with the math behind computer graphics. he loves matrices. he’s working for the fun of it before he gets down to business after he graduates.

his first job out of college is as a data analyst.

likes writing code to make fancy/fun graphics for his statistics/results in presentations to his bosses. if he has the time. which he usually doesn’t.

"blockchain is just a fancy linked list" he says, as he makes a killing investing in cryptocurrency so he graduates with minimal debt.

he has a "the cloud is just someone else's computer" graphic t shirt

he's very into getting the most optimal run time for in his code, which is part of what makes his algo for tmc so Good. everything needs to run as As Fast As Possible in that algo. Time Complexity Is His Jam. idk what to tell u. the dude loves math.

but also he just wrote a quad nested for loop and this is the comment above it: //This is O(scary), but seems quick enough in practice

space complexity? not so much. he doesn’t care about how much space his algos take up.

he hates maintaining code. he’s itching to create new things and he views programming as a sort of art and creative expression sometimes (im right on this. programming is creative and ill fight to the death).
