Mis discos favoritos del 2023

He aquí la tradicional lista del año. A excepción de los primeros 10, el resto de los álbumes contenidos en esta lista no tienen una jerarquía real, todos fueron materiales que disfruté y que considero vale la pena escuchar completos. En el caso de los 10 primeros, la única diferencia significativa es que me hicieron querer hablar un poco más de ellos y estuvieron constantemente en repetición.

el territorio de un tiempo sin medidas donde el pasado que no sucedió se encuentra con un futuro que nunca llega y que da como resultado la linea temporal en la que habitamos, llena de errores que se convierten en esquemas, en ejemplos y posteriormente en emblemas de un momento. Lopatin lo ha hecho desde sus días en Games, y lo ha continuado explorando y explotando para llegar a un décimo material que se siente igualmente abstracto y surrealista que aterrizado y molecular, una amalgama mutante punzocortante con icebergs que aterrizan en tierras calientes, momentáneamente creando océanos de nubes que se evaporan entre arena, melodías que llenan de belleza pequeños bunkers grisáceos de la posguerra, destruídos y oxidados por el tiempo, pero que ven nacer nuevos brotes de vegetación, la única perseverancia existe en el abandono y en la soledad absoluta.

“Again” encuentra así múltiples personalidades de su creador, como un dios benevolente que decide juntar a sus vástagos para narrar de una manera superior y múltiple las escenografías más angulares de la música electrónica que deconstruye el pop pulsante, pero que igual deja que surjan entre las grietas las influencias de la música experimental batallando contra lo que significa la aceptación. Es de alguna forma el plano para mucha música del futuro, que al ser redescubierto brindará toda una generación de creadores, -o tal vez no-, y que de manera circular también ofrece una narrativa biográfica al trabajo de alguien que navega entre la producción de las altas esferas y su apasionante acercamiento a lo disímil, un pequeño universo donde colapsan soles y absorben planetas que contienen enormes pensamientos, habitantes, sonidos eternos que permanecen como un eco en el vacío.

9 - Baxter Dury - I Thought I Was Better Than You

Baxter posee la elegancia de una navaja automática heredada por su padre pero perfeccionada por una generación maldita de crooners. Él mismo lo deja claro haciendo una fina analogía en el primer track de este material, hilando Citizen Kane y la genealogía de Kubla Khan, -que se menciona en la película-, como si fueran una maldición, y posteriormente aclarando que por más que digan que es una versión absurda y fuera de tono de Serge Gainsbourg, él quisiera ser Frank Ocean.

La lírica de los Dury sin embargo, persiste gracias a una inteligencia casi molesta que demuestra que pudieron ser poetas, pero son demasiado elegantes para eso (y al mismo tiempo callejeros como las ratas) y si no fuera porque Baxter es profundamente melancólico, no tendría el encanto natural que se refleja en sus emocionales baladas de post funk spoken word. Cosa que lo aparta de su padre.

La cualidad, probablemente más fuerte sin embargo, es el sentido del humor que nuestro protagonista ha perfeccionado con el tiempo, desde aquellos años en los que parecía ir en contra de todo lo que significaba ser hijo de Ian Dury y evocaba, -o trataba más bien de-, ser una estrella del indie de principios del nuevo milenio. Ahora, es más bien una especie de viejo apostador, que se mantiene de anfetaminas y martinis, y así se siente correcto.

“Pensé que era mejor que tú” en la superficie parece un reclamo hacia el padre, una reflexión del pasado, pero también un intento escapista de la carga autoimpuesta de los errores que cada uno se ha ganado a pulso. Eso sí, con un ritmo exquisito y lineas de bajo que Rick James en opiáceos habría soñado.

8 - Squid - O Monolith

A pesar de las probables ridículas implicaciones de una etiqueta como post Brexit, algo de verdad radica en las posiciones temporales específicas y geográficas de un movimiento artístico en particular. El tiempo como máximo ecualizador de las siempre mal llamadas escenas, -quiero decir más bien movidas-, se encarga de aclarar por qué algo tan absurdo como llamarle punk a un estilo de rock mas bien tradicional en la estructura, pero cambiante en la ejecución, tendría relevancia e importancia.

Entonces, en el mundo del post, donde todo es y está después de algo, y nada es puramente nuevo, lo más referencial en cantidad puede sentirse de alguna forma fresco ¿es acaso la homogeneidad el enemigo natural de la música de guitarras en los tiempos de los sobados y sobrevalorados Arctic Monkeys? Yo diría que sí.

Squid, de todos los proyectos que entran en esa misma bolsa revoloteada del llamado post Brexit, es la banda más auténtica y menos complaciente. Son hijos espirituales sí, de un Robert Wyatt, pero también conocen las ventajas de la síntesis electrónica vía Edgar Froese, y cuando quieren pueden robar de los Talking Heads más frenéticos, esos a los que Eno dio forma en Remain In Light. También saben usurpar los colores de un Oingo Boingo cuando se lo proponen, pero cuando no, pueden desechar absolutamente todas esas referencias y crear agujeros temporales que coquetean con el progresivo (menos las partes aburridas), o evocar la psicodelia de los krautrockers más de avanzada, y tal vez sean de hecho los únicos en el mundo que lo logran de manera natural.

7 - James Holden - Imagine This Is a High Dimensional Space of All Possibilities

A veces cierro los ojos y pienso en cielos que he visto, y a esos cielos le agrego colores, formas y posteriormente sonidos. A esos sonidos les agrego palabras o emociones que no necesariamente son reales, son abstractas y muchas veces llenas de más emociones que se mezclan como el aceite en un charco después de la lluvia, hermosas y contaminadas, brillantes y metálicas en un pavimento sucio y negro que parece casi juguetón, como un arcoíris venido a menos y que sueña con volver a cruzar el cielo en un día de verano. También a veces todo eso se convierte en un recuerdo de la infancia, que después de repetirlo por unos cuantos años, se confunde con lo que viví y lo que imaginé y me da una especie de tranquilidad equiparable al olor inidentificable de una presencia del pasado, como de un amor efímero o una mirada traslúcida.

Hace algunos años conocí a James Holden, platicamos durante unos minutos. No recuerdo las cosas que me dijo.

6 - Water from Your Eyes - Everyone's Crushed

Las particularidades de lo disímil, atonal y en pocas palabras raro, siempre han funcionado como un impulso para la evolución. Hoy en día sin embargo, es raro encontrar algo que entre en el reino de lo raro de forma natural o de manera auténtica, sin trata de impresionar, sino simplemente como una muestra real de liberación, como esa necesidad de querer decir algo, no de echarlo al ruedo esperando que gane un premio, sino como un espíritu que puede merodear diferentes locaciones y traspasar las paredes sin querer ser notado, pero que no puede pasar desapercibido.

WFYE ha sido ese espíritu en un mundo de muestreo, pose, pre-saves y demás prácticas que odio con toda mi alma en el mercadeo musical de estos días, que trata de hacer de las cosas algo tendencioso y que busca validación a través de las maquinarias y bla bla bla… esa historia también ya nos la sabemos. Esta es música que va contra las probabilidades, contra las fórmulas, y que poco le importa ser consumida. Resume una historia donde caben bandas de electrónica experimental, y también Deerhoof o Battles, y al mismo tiempo se ayuda de sampleos dignos de los primeros sintetizadores digitales de los noventa. El trabajo de guitarras es ejemplar, y puede recordar a los mejores momentos del más cuadriculado no wave, pero también hay momentos de extraña e inclasificable belleza, cosa que incluso la misma banda no puede describir o etiquetar, y eso siempre será una buena señal.

5 - Paris Texas - MID AIR

Pasé unos cuantos años alejado del rap por hastío. Vi un género que en un momento de hartazgo con la música de guitarras me pareció lo más fresco, convertirse en lo más genérico, en el tipo de música que escuchaba la gente que consideraba más común, todos aquellos que representaban lo que yo quería pelear. Vi a las peores mentes de mi generación cantar a Biggie y Tupac, hablar de Kanye y Kendrick, poner en sus fiestas a Big L, Outkast y NWA, vi asimilación, el enemigo se había apropiado de algo que en el pasado me había salvado, y no me gustó para nada.

Luego el rap se empezó a ramificar una vez más y volvió esa parte dura, oscura, melancólica y un poco más compleja con la que sí conectaba, y de todos esos que no están en el lado ganador con los Tylers y los Drakes (dios nos libre) salieron Paris, Texas, que poco importa si son fans de Wim Wenders, pero que definitivamente se nota que sí y eso ya es un punto a su favor. La consecuencia por supuesto puede remitirse a algunos alt rappers de las ultimas dos décadas e incluso si nos apuramos, a colectivos más contemporáneos donde al igual que aquí, juegan muchos factores que nada tiene que ver musicalmente con el rap, como el rock, el pop (la rola que lleva por título “Lana Del Rey”) o la música electrónica e industrial (“BULLET MAN” que también se siente como un homenaje lateral a Shinya Tsukamoto), no voy a nombrar nombres eso sí. Este es uno de los álbumes de rap que más me emocionó en 2023 y me parece un excelente termómetro de lo que viene para el futuro, quiero creerlo, y si no, mientras tanto tenemos uno de los mejores trabajos en el hip hop de los nuevos años veinte.

4 - Yo La Tengo - This Stupid World

Yo tuve un sueño, y en ese sueño Yo La Tengo eran más influyentes que Sonic Youth. Es un sueño sin sentido porque a quién le importa eso, no hay necesidad de comparar ambas (y grandiosas) bandas, pero como muchos sueños reside en un deseo primario que tiene que ver con la fantasía de ver a una de los proyectos más interesantes de la historia ser tratados con justicia. En mi mundo ideal Yo La está lidereando festivales alrededor del mundo y todas las bandas mediocres que no me gustan, se rinden ante su grandeza, aceptando por fin que un track hipnótico de doce minutos vale más que sus baladillas edulcoradas de rocksito desgastado.

En dicha fantasía también, este disco, el número diecisiete en su discografía, es tan importante para el mundo como lo es para mí y aprecian con emoción la autenticidad de este trío y su inalcanzable energía. Viva Yo La Tengo, y muerte a todas las bandas que no me gustan.

3 - John Cale - MERCY

En el mundo no existe la justicia, porque si existiera todos estarían hablando de este disco. Valoraríamos como un fenómeno de la naturaleza que a su edad y después de tantas vicisitudes, John Cale haga un trabajo como este, un ejercicio de belleza absoluta que no pide prestado del pasado y que más bien pinta un panorama del presente como casi ningún artista o músico joven lo hace. Por supuesto que ocho décadas en este planeta le han enseñado varias cosas a uno de los originales, a una de las mentes más influyentes del rock y la música experimental, al responsable de enseñarle el ruido a Lou Reed y de traducir el minimalismo de La Monte Young y Riley a los rockers, pero como decía esto no se trata sobre el pasado.

Cale, juntó a la gente más importante de la música experimental de esta generación y lanzó uno de los discos más crípticos y hermosos del año, al cual el estatus de rock le queda más que corto, y que si bien también puede hacernos pensar en su trabajo con Eno y con Nico, se siente también como una pieza independiente, nueva y ciertamente fresca a pesar de toda la carga histórica que involucra a su autor. John Cale le sobrevivió prácticamente a toda la Velvet Underground, a varios de sus discípulos y a cientos de otros músicos de su generación y las que le han seguido, es uno de los maestros y de los inventores de la música de guitarras, es prácticamente un gurú del ruido y a la vez un artesano de la melodía, y este disco es una proeza, un logro y un regalo para la humanidad y todos aquellos que amamos la música.

2 - JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES

¿has visto a alguien hacer algo que te parece fácil y luego intentarlo y darte cuenta que no sólo no es fácil sino que todo lo contrario es sumamente difícil y probablemente no lo puedas hacer nunca como ver a un atleta de alto rendimiento cruzar en segundos kilométricos pedazos de violencia con una mirada fría y una mente enfocadísima que sólo tiene como objetivo el romper los límites de la realidad como si se tratara de una telaraña que por un momento contuvo contra las leyes de la física objetos animales o conceptos metafísicos abstractos o simples y que más allá de ser o no tangibles reúnen de forma concreta una enorme cantidad de información que por separado es imposible descifrar y que en conjunto es casi igual de difícil de entender pero como está encimada de una manera ordenada pero caótica la entiendes como si se tratara de un cuadro de Jackson Pollock traducido no al jazz sino al lenguaje del internet con todo y memes y música de comerciales y hip hop de los dosmil y sampleos de boy bands y música extrañísima casi como si fuera un concurso de quién puede hacer más rara la vida y más rara la música y más rara la realidad aunque la realidad siempre será más rara que cualquier canción de JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown?

1 - André 3000 - New Blue Sun

Aunque no catalogado como tal por André 3000, “New Blue Sun” es esencialmente un disco de ambient inherentemente ligado a la belleza de lo cotidiano y rastreando cierta energía que históricamente ha sido impulsada por la figura más grande del género: Brian Eno, nombre que no podemos olvidar ni obviar en este tipo de esfuerzos sonoros, musicales o exploratorios del universo del aire siendo movido por la fuerza de la acción.

Sin embargo, ya en lo práctico, la primera persona a la que se puede referir inmediatamente al escuchar este material no es per se Eno, sino uno de sus colaboradores y, por propio mérito, uno de los grandes emblemas de la música experimental, -si es que podemos hablar de emblemas en este circuito-, Jon Hassell. Y es justo en este punto en lo que hay que hacer hincapié. Como movida artística el ambient y sus variantes llevan más de cincuenta años siendo explorados de diferentes maneras y formas que nacen de una tradición que también por sus propios méritos han generado discusión y teorización durante mucho tiempo gracias a su discreta evolución desde la llamada ola de los minimalistas, término que cada uno de los involucrados desprecia y que debería se analizado por separado.

Sin embargo en función del contexto, vale la pena hacer una linea temporal que tiene también que ver con la opinión pública y la figura del músico como un ente creador casi divino, mejor, especial y distinto al resto de los humanos. Esto por su puesto se ha de demostrado en numerosas ocasiones ser una falacia completa. Pero tal como sucede en un conjunto de sonidos que crean cierta armonía, no podemos separar algunos de los elementos que forma al artista y su contexto. No hace falta mencionar o ser específicos al hablar de André 3000 como uno de lo zeniths del rap y de la música afroamericana contemporánea, sin embargo, sí es necesario tener en cuenta la función de su papel como estrella de pop en la incursión que tienen para la música experimental y específicamente para los terrenos del ambient.

He aquí un dilema que en otra ocasiones ha derramado sangre dentro de los círculos musicales, la figura del otrora rockstar o emblema de la música pop que en el hartazgo de la agitada vida de los reflectores decide buscar paz en espacios que los extraños y olvidados han habitado por décadas, esos cómodos lugares de nicho semi desaparecidos que sólo aquellos obsesivos y meticulosos han querido habitar en relativa oscuridad, y que casi con una devoción religiosa han hecho crecer poco a poco, como si de una pequeña comunidad de monjes alejados del mundo metamoderno se tratara. Ahí los que incluso son famosos, no lo son, los Basinskis, los Tim Heckers, no son un tercio de lo significativos que una Taylor Swift o un Harry Styles son para la cultura popular, o en todo caso el tan cacheteado mainstream. Y ahí en medio de esos ganadores y perdedores de los números y el streaming reside justamente la calamidad por la que un personaje como André 3000 llama tanto la atención.

Por una parte todos aquellos que deseaban verle regresar como un olvidado campeón que desde el Olimpo vuelve para darle vida a un género que se siente por momentos cansado después de la absorción a la normalidad, y por otro lado todos los que optimistamente abrazan lo que un artista en su madurez tiene que ofrecer sin relación a su pasado y sus glorias de antaño. Ambos puntos son válidos y al mismo tiempo cancelables ¿quién tiene el derecho de juzgar el trabajo de un artista? ¿los fanáticos que han seguido la carrera al pie de los beats? ¿aquellos que desconocen o no sienten ningún apego emocional al pasado? Incluso podríamos decir que ninguno de los dos.

Parte importante del ambient reside en que desde su concepción como movimiento ideológico, no musical, sino conceptual, Eno lo describió como una serie de piezas pensadas para acompañar y no para capturar la atención total, ahí por supuesto podemos encontrar diferentes ramificaciones del oficio y ver sus distintas intenciones dependiendo de lo que el respectivo creador busque, algunos por supuesto, lo ven desde esa particularidad casi funcionalista del Music For Airports, y otros lo ven desde la casi religiosidad mántrica del jazz espiritual, todo por su puesto depende de qué tanto nos tomemos en serio de qué va cada cual, y al final en cualquiera de las situaciones el escucha es el que decide cómo acercarse a estos diferentes materiales, en resumen todo depende.

En ese sentido podemos ver desde diferentes perspectivas el “New Blue Sun”, una lúdica y una más abstracta y seria. Habrá quienes en la decepción por supuesto, no encuentren valor en ninguna de la dos y su juicio más temprano y a medias válido, será calificar de aburrido e incluso molesto o autocomplaciente y snob este material, en ese caso no hay mucho que decir al respecto, más que invitar a aquellos a que revisen el material ya existente de Outkast.

La intromisión entonces de una figura tan disruptiva para el núcleo ideológico anti star system del ambient y similares, como lo es la de André, permite diferentes situaciones, una es la asimilación de esta música hacia un público que tal vez por primera vez pueda disfrutar la serenidad y lento desarrollo de este tipo de música experimental, y por otro lado, el cómo esto se va a infiltrar en una nueva generación de músicos que permearán estos sonidos y conceptos en la música pop, el rap, electrónica y demás que están en función de la popularidad.

La búsqueda aquí es clara, no se trata sobre la nostalgia del personaje, la remembranza o el ego de un monstruo del rap, no es sobre quien es The GOAT, ni si André tiene que demostrar nada, es simple, pura y hermosa liberta creativa y en ese terreno, ya es un material exitoso. Si los números no le favorecen, el tiempo lo hará, porque esta música esta hecha para perdurar las modas, para trascender el espacio y el tiempo, para ponerse a lado de los discos de Laraaji, de Hassell, de Eno e incluso de los Coltrane.

Hijo primogénito de Samuel Carstairs y Amelia Blackbrow. El matrimonio se asentó en el Instituto de Shanghái hasta la muerte del cabeza de familia durante un ataque demoniaco que se cobró, a su vez, la vida del pequeño Zachary, de tan solo siete meses. Leo mató a su primer demonio a los diez años tras verlo asesinar a su hermano pequeño, recibiendo la runa angelical justo después de este suceso. Aquel ataque no solo rompió a la familia Carstairs, sino que provocó que Leo se convirtiera en un chico solitario y, en cierto modo, sombrío. La preocupación de Amelia por su hijo y la necesidad de un cambio de aires, les trasladó al Instituto de Los Ángeles en el que ocuparía el puesto de Directora tras su designación por La Clave.

La reticencia sobre el nuevo Instituto cambió en el momento en el que conoció a Theodore Herondale con el que sentiría una conexión inmediata que les llevaría a realizar el juramento por el que se convertirían en parabatai. Con el paso del tiempo, el joven Carstairs ha ido bajando sus escudos y se ha permitido relajarse, aunque su máxima preocupación siempre ha sido lidiar con la obsesión de Theo por convertirse en uno de los mejores cazadores de sombras de la historia, advirtiéndole de que eso le llevará a la muerte. En un primer momento, pensó que el verdadero peligro era Maddie, la melliza de su parabatai, quién siempre ha parecido tener un talento innato en ser perfecta. Tras varias misiones juntos, ha sido capaz de aceptarla y hasta le causa cierta curiosidad, encontrando divertidos los piques entre ellos.

Hace apenas unos meses comenzó a consumir yin-fen al darse cuenta que su cuerpo había dejado de responder como debía, casi siempre a la hora de pelear. Theo no tardó en darse cuenta de lo que ocurría, así que no le quedó más remedio que contarle que tenía la ligera sospecha de que una maldición perseguía su apellido y que aquello era una manifestación real en su propio organismo. | [email protected]

LA TRASFORMAZIONE

La pittura è un fenomeno umano: affermazione banale. Ma l'umano della figurazione pittorica, in cosa consiste? La storia dell'arte s'è impegnata lungamente a classificare, a distinguere, a raggruppare le espressioni creative su tela come su ogni altro supporto, fornendo una risposta "tecnica" e strumenti pratici per memorizzare stili, tendenze, paradigmi. La domanda rimane. E si estende: in cosa si evidenzia il carattere tipicamente umano della pittura? E cos'è tipicamente umano rispetto alle altre forme di vita? Il linguaggio. L'essere umano può esprimersi attraverso significanti dotati di significato. Ma non lo possiede: lo usa, ne ha fatto strumento di organizzazione razionale. Eppure, ne avverte l'abisso dell'origine. Questa apparizione di una profondità oscura, inattingibile, costituisce la relazione con l'atto pittorico. Si tratta di un'aporia, di una strada che non presenta vie d'uscita, che non conduce in un altrove rispetto al suo corso. La pittura, come la "parola poetica" è dunque una permanenza che non ha sbocchi. "Ut pictura poesis". Tenta di fare cenno all'abisso, di condurre l'osservatore su un piano nel quale il significante è muto. Afferma il principio di una "ragione insufficiente" a spiegare. Così, coglie le tracce del reale e le trasforma, straniandole, in appello all'ascolto del silenzio.

Sovvengono i versi di Samuel Beckett (da "Cosa farei mai" in "Poèmes", 1946-1949):

"Cosa farei mai senza questo mondo senza volto né domande dove essere non dura che un istante in cui ciascun istante si rovescia nel vuoto nell’oblio d’essere stato senza quest’onda dove infine sprofonderanno insieme corpo e ombra..."

Broooo tengo una idea.

Imagínense que los animatronicos estan de chil en una pijamada todo tranqui viendo matrix. Y de la nada a Bonnie se le vienen los típicos pensamientos existenciales y les dice a sus amigos sobre ellos pero nadie le para bola. Pero más tarde Bonnie ve una estrella fugaz y le pide que si están en un mundo ficticio todos puedan ir a la realidad. Freddy escucha esto y entre todos van y calman a Bonnie para recordarle que matrix es solo una pelicula y que todos son reales y luego todos se van a dormir. Peroooo cuando despiertan los 5 están en un cuarto desconocido (cada uno en una cama de 3 literas. Todos están confundidos y se encuentran con una persona el cual sería como un dios que los trajo aquí por pura diversión (en este caso seria mi OC pero luego veo). Todos están muy espantados pero les dan un día para que conozcan el mundo que ellos no saben que es el mundo real, donde la gente no se pone a cantar porque xd, la gente no tiene ojos y cabello de colores fruti-fantasticos y las cosas no son tan divertidas e inocentes como ellos conocían. Y el siguiente día es lunes y les tocaría ir a una prepa normal latinoamericana (yo como soy mexicano tendria mas referencia a la cultura mexicana que latina en general) donde conocerían lo más cercano a los toys pero en el mundo real y estos actúan como morros de la vida real que tratan de tener una banda musical pero obvio y no es tan fácil como lo tenían los toys que todos conocemos. Voy a describir uno por uno (joy,Meg,Bon,toddy y spring)

Joey

Una chica trans acomplejada porque solo sus amigos la llaman por ella y tiene miedo de revelarse a su familia catolica. Toca el teclado. Es muy callada porque se siente acomplejada por su voz, ademas de usar ropa holgada para verse mas "neutral". Con sus amigos es muy alegre, errática y carismática, su color favorito es el rosa pastel, ama el pastel de coco y adora el K-pop (stray kids Y ((G)I - DLE) )

Megan

es una chica que padece de albinismo fue huérfana por un trajico incendio pero vive con sus actuales padres adoptivos. Es muy edgy y se siente como el personaje principal pero es buena onda. Es vocalista en su banda y adora cantar pero le cuesta mucho aprender a tocar un instrumento. Su color favorito es el amarillo vivo pero a casi todos les dice que es el negro, le fascina el chile en nogada y es Swifty y fan de Lana del Rey

Samuel

Un chico, hijo de papá luchon ya que sus papás están divorciados (su padre trabaja mucho y tiene caidas alcohólicas lo que le genera a Sam mucho estres pero tambien le da muchas libertades). Es muy orgulloso pero muy penoso y torpe lo cual lo vuelve un poco introvertido. Es muy carismático y trata de siempre ayudar a sus amigos (en especial Joey) su color fav es el verde, su comida favorita es la papa rellena y es rockero a morir (guns and roses, pantera y un poco de måneskin)

Teodora (Terry)

La media hermana de bon (la mamá tuvo una aventura y por eso el apa de Sam se divorció) ella es un año menor que Sam y lo adora ya que incluso por lo que ella representa el la cuida incondicionalmente. Aprendió a tocar la batería recientemente y unicamente para entrar a la banda en la que esta su hermano. No tenía amigos por lo que se colo a la banda para no estar sola. Su color favorito es el rojo vino, le encanta la lasaña y su cancion favorita es victorious de panic at the disco (no tiene un artista o estilo musical favorito)

Spencer

Conoció a Meg en el orfanato en el que ambos vivían y cuando ella se fue mantuvieron contacto (obviamente tiene un mega crush con ella y haria lo que fuera por ella) trabaja en la calle vendiendo dulces en la salida de colegios (específicamente en el de nuestros protagonistas) y en una carpintería donde ayuda en lo que puede. Su color favorito es el azul marino, no tiene una comida favorita ya que le gusta de todo (excepto el picante) y le gusta mucho el rap, hasta aprendio y/o esta aprendiendo a rapear e inprovisar

Ahora bien imagínense a los animatronicos teniendo que enfrentarse a situaciones cotidianas mientras conocen cómo comportarse en nuestro mundo mientras los “Toys reales” (por decirlo de alguna manera [todavia no tengo nombre para su banda]) comienzan a convivir con los animatronicos y a encariñarse con ellos. E imagínense que Samuel también le guste Bonnie pero esta vez muentras tiene su crisis lo evite y luego, cuando se sienta mas seguro de sí mismo, lo trate de conquistar pero no sería taaaaaaaan obvio porque le da pena, por lo que pocos se darían cuenta pero al final se confesaría y capaz y Bonnie también sentiria algo por él. O que Freddy/Fred y Golden ayuden a Joey a sentirse más cómoda con si misma y a hacerla reconocer que ella es quien es y nadie la puede cambiar, que foxy despierte un instinto paternal en Megan y la ayude o que Chica pueda sentirse identificada con terry y ayudarla a quererse un poco mas.

What made you decide your OCs names/what do their names mean?

Sivonne Alessandra Thawne: Sivonne is a bastardized version of the name Siobhan that 14-year-old me heard for the first time, and I thought it sounded cool. Alessandra, their middle name, means "Defender of men" and I thought that worked pretty well for her.

Jason Luca Barron: Jason means "Healer", Luca means "Light". It works pretty well for his personality.

Cassandra Addison Stevens: Name chosen at random based on vibes.

Hailey Tuyet Laurence: "Hailey" chosen at random based on vibes, means "hay's meadow" and "Tuyet" is Vietnamese for "snow".

Jessica Esmeralda Wells: Jessica was just chosen to establish her as the E-2002 version of Jesse Wells, and Esmeralda means "emerald". It was just chosen at random.

Regina Maria Rivera: "Regina Maria" is a reference to her family's Catholic faith, meaning "Queen Mary", which refers to Mary, mother of Jesus.

Moon Hyun-Ki: Hyun-Ki means "Clever" and I thought that would be a good narrative choice because he keeps trying to outwit Jessi and would be able to if she wasn't OP af.

Qiara Lucia Bradshaw: Qiara as an alternate spelling of "Kiara", but with a Q since she technically doesn't have a real name, she's just "Q". Lucia was chosen because it means "Light".

Marie Kiyoko Kaneyama: Marie chosen because it means "Bitterness" and Marie's one of my Angst Blanket OCs, "Kiyoko" after "Hayley Kiyoko", aka Lesbian Jesus.

Liah Amina Abdul: "Liah" was chosen because it sounds vaguely similar to some other Cardassian names, (It also means "delicate" so that's an extra bonus), Amina was chosen because it means "Faithful".

Soraya Farwah Al-Sharif: Named after a couple of close friends I had in middle school.

Thalia Xanthe Sylvan: "Thalia" after Thalia Grace of the Percy Jackson novels, "Xanthe" after one of the mythical Amazon warriors.

Athena Stonehenge: Not her real name, but was chosen because it's giving "Mysterious, wise, and cunning". Her real name, however, is Mollie, and she will kill you if you call her that.

Laila/Experiment 669: Laila is Arabic for "Dark night", which is a homophone for "Dark Knight", aka Sith lmao. Her experiment number is a cross between "666" and "69" because I am very mature.

Reyna Blazestar: Chosen because it sounds like some 13 year old's power fantasy Mary Sue OC name, which it technically is, because Reyna uses a fake name to distance herself from her abusive stepmother.

Aldrich Tobias Morgan: Name chosen at random based on vibes.

Samira Nasrin Yazdani: Name chosen at random based on vibes.

Sohelia Morgan Yazdani: "Sohelia" means star, and I thought that'd be funny because Vampires and the sun, y'know? And Morgan as her middle name is a subtle way of giving her father's last name without outing her as half-vampire.

Vanessa Leah Wolf: Name chosen at random based on vibes, HOWEVER, her last name, Wolf, was chosen because she gets transformed into a monster by a mad scientist and I thought that was subtle and fitting for her.

Matthew Avi Rosenthal-St. James: Name chosen at random based on vibes.

Santa Chiara

Continuing my series of learning about things referenced in the book, I'm looking at things referenced in Alex & Henry's visit to the V&A Museum. These are all tagged #a series of learning about things that are referenced in the book, if you want to block the tag.

Through the marble choir screen at the back of the room is a second, deeper chamber, this one filled with church relics. Past stained glass and statues of saints, at the very end of the room, is an entire high altar chapel removed from its church. The sign explains its original setting was the apse of the convent church of Santa Chiara in Florence in the fifteenth century, and it’s stunning, set deep into an alcove to create a real chapel, with statues of Santa Chiara and Saint Francis of Assisi. When they kiss, Alex can hear a half-remembered old proverb from catechism, mixed up between translations of the book: “Come, hijo mío, de la miel, porque es buena, and the honeycomb, sweet to thy taste.” He wonders what Santa Chiara would think of them, a lost David and Jonathan, turning slowly on the spot. -Chapter 10, Red White & Royal Blue

The visual provided for this scene is the Chancel Chapel from the Church of Santa Chiara, in Florence. The only Italian Renaissance chapel outside of Italy, it consists of four parts - the Chapel and Frieze, the Tabernacle, and as Alex references, the Statues of Saint Francis and Saint Claire/Chiara. While the artist is unknown, it has been attributed to Giuliano de Sangallo or those associated with him, in the last decade of the 1400s. It was purchased on behalf of the V&A museum in 1860 by J.C. Robinson.

The Chapel belonged to the Poor Clares order of nuns, whose founders were the Saints featured in the piece - St Francis and St Claire/Chiara. The convent of Santa Chiara was founded on the site of a hospital, and this altar was commissioned by the brother of some of the nuns, Jacopo Bongianni in the 1490s.

The proverb Alex remembers is from Proverbs 24:13. I've included both the English and the Spanish versions. I used the King James Version of the English bible and the Reina-Valera Antigua for the Spanish version.

Come, hijo mío, de la miel, porque es buena, Y del panal dulce á tu paladar. My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste.

David and Jonathan are characters in the Book of Samuel in the bible. Many queer people look to them as an example of a queer relationship that was affirmed and blessed by God. Jonathan was the son of the first King of Israel, and David became the second King of Israel.

When they were introduced to each other, Jonathan took an immediate liking to David and "the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David and Jonathan loved him as himself". [1 Samuel 18] Following Jonathan's death, David expresses that Jonathan's love for him was "more wonderful than that of women". [2 Samuel 1] He also later adopts Jonathan's adult son, Mephibosheth, saying "I will [...] show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan." [2 Samuel 9] He does so despite the risk this poses to his position as King - Mephibosheth was a potential claimant to the throne, being the grandson of the former King.

Oscar Wilde referenced David and Jonathan in the well known reference to "the love that dare not speak its name" during his trial. We know that Henry has an affection for Wilde - Alex sees a copy of his complete works on Henry's nightstand.

Lee Marvin, del que se cumple el centenario de su nacimiento este 19 de febrero de 2024, es mi actor favorito de todos los tiempos. De todas las estrellas de esas películas con “tipos duros”, tan en boga en el Hollywood de los 1960s, Lee Marvin (1924-1987) fue único, irrepetible, quizás el mejor actor de todos, con un don para sobresalir en papeles secundarios y luego, cuando la fama tocó a su puerta con un premio Óscar en 1966, con la madera de las grandes estrellas de cine.

Sin una gran formación teatral, aunque fue en las tablas donde se enamoró del oficio, Marvin era un actor natural, intuitivo, como lo era Gary Cooper.

Como villano, Marvin lucía verosímil como personaje despiadado, con frases punzantes y dispuesto a llevarse por delante a cualquiera. Como héroe, daba la talla como personaje lacónico, mordaz, seguro de lo que hacía.

Y, bien interpretase a un héroe o a un villano, Marvin transmitía un peso de amargura y experiencia que daba a sus personajes la sensación de ser reales, de tener claroscuros, de tener consciencia. Era un actor que sabía moverse ante una cámara. En entrevistas, era educado y reflexivo. Era una persona intimidante, con sentido del saber estar, poco dado a maquillar las cosas.

Lee Marvin encarnó un concepto de masculinidad ahora en desuso. Él simbolizó a una generación que peleó en la Segunda Guerra Mundial y que volvió sin ánimos de hablar de su experiencia. Un tipo duro que, al decir de Mark Hamill (quien trabajó con Marvin en The Big Red One), se ponía de mal humor si lo elogiabas y bajaba la guardia cuando lo insultabas.

No en balde, Marvin sirvió en la 4ta División del Cuerpo de Marines, en la Compañía “I”, 3er Batallón. Combatió en el teatro de operaciones del Pacífico, participando como francotirador en los asaltos de Eniwetok y Saipán. La mayor parte de su división fue aniquilada y él resultó herido en acción durante la batalla de Saipán, en el monte Tapochau. Sufrió una lesión debajo de la columna que cortó su nervio ciático, así como una lesión en el pie. Pasó 13 meses en un hospital y recibió la condecoración del Corazón Púrpura.

Marvin, de temperamento rebelde, dado a la bebida, trabajó para grandes directores, como Robert Aldrich, Don Siegel, Fritz Lang, John Ford, Samuel Fuller, John Boorman, Budd Boetticher y Richard Brooks, entre muchos otros.

Quizás hay algo de nostalgia en idolatrar a Lee Marvin. Sus películas reflejan una época y, a la vez, son imperecederas, participando en más de una decena de clásicos. Su simple presencia elevaba la calidad de una película. Y su presencia en pantalla evoca algo mítico, alguien más grande que la vida, la certeza de estar mirando a un coloso en pantalla.

Hay mucha gente defendiendo ahora a MJ porque dicen que no sale en la lista de Epstein, hay algún vínculo con el?

Hola, muchas personas están malinterpretando o ajustando a su conveniencia (de ambos bandos, debo decir) los documentos que fueron puestos a disposición del publico del caso de Epstein.

En segundo lugar, aclarare algunas cosas:

El nombre de Jackson si aparece en la lista de los registros de vuelos de Epstein (Pagina 33), los datos de contacto son de Samuel Glen (con su bufete de abogados de Nueva York, número de teléfono y correo electrónico). Glen representó a James Meiskin, quien por un corto período actuó como el “asesor financiero” esporádico de MJ (2000-2003), también de Nueva York. Aun así es obvio que Gen es el contacto de Epstein para Jackson.

Los fans afirman que Oprah aparece en esa lista pero ella no aparece, lo pueden verificar en los documentos antes citados, en la lista real de los registros de vuelos y los medios tambien han desmentido esa información que se propagó falsamente en las redes (entre otras falsedades). Lo de que Oprah estuviera en la lista es un rumor falso de hace años (2020), propagado por los miembros de QAnon. Ninguna de las victimas de Epstein afirmaron conocer o haber visto a Oprah.

Relacionado con lo anterior, en Twitter (ahora X) se ha propagado mucha información falsa al respecto, impulsado sobretodo por la extrema derecha de los estados unidos y que desafortunadamente han invadido las redes sociales en español. Invito a leer este articulo de Rolling stones que detalla muy bien las fake news que se han dado y reitero la necesidad de solamente guiarse por los documentos que están disponibles.

Jackson es mencionado brevemente en los documentos que se revelaron ayer (enero 3 de 2024), cuando una de las testigos narra en una deposición que lo conoció en la casa de Palm Beach de Epstein (Pagina 305). Esa información no es nueva, era algo que se sabia hace años, porque fue narrado en el libro "Relentless Pursuit: My Fight for the Victims of Jeffrey (2020)"; escrito por Brad Edwards, abogado de las victimas de Epstein.

Según un review de Daily beast sobre el libro:

El 'Rey del Pop' Michael Jackson visitó la casa de Epstein en Florida Johanna fue atraída a la órbita de Epstein, en parte, por las personas famosas asociadas con Epstein. “Para una mujer joven como Johanna, el hecho de que hubiera estrellas amigas de Jeffrey y Ghislaine era una ventaja atractiva del trabajo. Incluso el mismísimo Rey del Pop, Michael Jackson, había sido un conocido de Epstein como para hacerle una visita a Palm Beach mientras Johanna trabajaba allí”, dice Edwards.

Desafortunadamente no he podido encontrar la pagina del libro donde narra este encuentro, porque el libro no esta disponible digitalmente (al menos no gratis), pero las transcripciones que salieron a la luz ayer corroboran que ese encuentro es verídico (Pagina 305).

Pregunta: ¿Conociste a alguien famoso cuando estuviste con Jeffrey? "Johanna": Conoci a Michael Jackson. Pregunta: ¿Oh, enserio? ¿Y donde fue eso? "Johanna": En su casa en Palm beach. En la casa de Jeffrey en Palm Beach. Pregunta: ¿Le diste un masaje? "Johanna": No lo hice.

Ahora, ¿ Prueba ese encuentro una relación cercana entre Jackson y Epstein? ¿Esto prueba que Jackson es un pederasta?

En mi criterio esta información es irrelevante e insuficiente para afirmar ambas cosas. No hay más indicios que nos lleven a pensar Jackson era muy cercano a Eipstein, que estaba metido en una red de pedofilos con él o que sabia lo que Epstein hacia. Epstein se relacionaba con mucha gente famosa y rica, pero muchas de esas relaciones eran superficiales, por negocios o simplemente porque al estar en la misma elite, coinciden. Amigos cercanos o conocidos de Jackson si tenían una relación mas estrecha con Epstein (como lo mencione en otra respuesta hace meses), pero reitero que eso no quiere decir que Jackson también lo era.

Acerca de las razones de este encuentro en su casa solamente podemos especular porque ambos están muertos, pero es posible que Jackson se hubiera encontrado con él porque estaba buscando una propiedad en el área, Michael visitó Palm Beach en 2003. O puede ser que Epstein lo haya invitado simplemente porque quería conocerlo al ser Jackson esta gran celebridad. Si tuviera acceso al libro quizás podríamos saber un poco mas de ese encuentro, pero por ahora no hay más información al respecto.

¿Algo de esto prueba la inocencia de Jackson en sus propios casos?

No. Ninguna de las victimas de Jackson han alegado que él estuviera en una red con otros pedofilos o tuviera relación con Epstein y sus abusos. Yo tampoco creo que actuara con otros. Las victimas de Epstein normalmente eran mujeres adolescentes, no niños varones, por lo que es esperable que su caso no tenga relación con este.

Enfocándonos en la transcripción que salio ayer, muchas personas, tanto fans como no fans, la están malinterpretado, diciendo que Jackson no podría ser un abusador de menores porque rechazo la oferta de Johanna de darle un masaje. Pero la transcripción no dice eso, en ningún momento ella menciona que le ofreció un masaje o que Jackson se negara, simplemente dice que no lo hizo.

Asi que todo este asunto de Epstein con Jackson, a mi parecer no prueba nada. No prueba que Jackson fuera un pederasta, tampoco prueba que fuera inocente de sus propios casos. Simplemente Jackson conoció a Epstein (como muchos otros famosos) y ya. Es información insignificante.

NME: Arctic Monkeys – ‘The Car’ review: a swashbuckling, strings-fuelled epic

Atop a Los Angeles rooftop car park sits a lone white Toyota Corolla. There’s no knowing how – or when – the saloon got there, what’s lurking in the trunk or the glove compartment, or whether it’s responsible for the screeching tyre marks nearby. Decoding the artwork for ‘The Car’, Arctic Monkeys’ seventh album, feels akin to attempting to get under the hood of the band themselves; it’s mysterious, unusual and, crucially, all part of the fun.

While their peppy, game-changing 2006 debut ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ and 2013’s behemoth ‘AM’ will provide greater lessons in assessing rock’s place in 21st century music, ‘The Car’ best summarises the Arctic Monkeys story so far: sharp songwriting, relentless innovation and unbreakable teamwork. For the old-heads, it’s a satisfying toast to those who’ve stuck by and matured along with the band, while for the newbies – arriving primarily via TikTok and streaming services – it is a remarkable place to start their Monkeys journey.

True to drummer Matt Helders’ words, the band “pick up where they left off” on 2018’s ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’, their masterful – and divisive – collection that traded razor-sharp riffs and stadium-sized choruses for loungey space-pop, obfuscating characters and a shady lounge lizard persona for frontman Alex Turner. The songwriter himself appears to make a sly reference to the fallout from the last album on ‘The Car’s brooding highlight ‘Sculptures Of Anything Goes’, bemoaning someone – or himself – who’s “puncturing your bubble of relatability with your horrible new sound”.

Nevertheless, ‘The Car’ goes some way to addressing some of the last record’s flaws. While growing in stature once the initial shock wore off and proving to be wildly entertaining live, there were still some nit-picks to be had with ‘Tranquility…’: perhaps it was too slow and one-note, perhaps the full band were under-utilised as performers, perhaps it felt more like a Turner solo record. On ‘The Car’, though, Jamie Cook, Nick O’Malley and Helders are present and powerful; guided by Turner’s songwriting and delicate vocal performance, but never ceding to it: ‘Body Paint’, a swaggering ‘70s-inspired epic, features the full band at their most ferocious-sounding in years. If ‘Tranquility…’s monochrome palette boxed Arctic Monkeys in, here they’re flourishing in full colour.

The band began recording the album last summer while reconnecting post-lockdown at a 14th century monastery in Suffolk, fitting in sessions amid England’s almost-glory at Euro 2020. Decamping to La Frette – the studio-cum-mansion on the outskirts of Paris where they recorded much of ‘Tranquility’ – to capture Turner’s vocals, Arctic Monkeys then, most importantly, headed to RAK Studios in London. It was here that an 18-piece string section recorded their parts for ‘The Car’, bringing to life the arrangements composed by Turner, producer James Ford and Bridget Samuels, whose credits include the 2019 psych-horror Midsommar.

It is these musicians, as much as the band themselves, who provide ‘The Car’ with the vivid textures that this record’s predecessor. The grandiose funk-rock of ‘I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am’ soars in comparison to the version first played live this summer, and ‘There’d Better Be A Mirrorball’ is the band’s first real tear-jerker since ‘Cornerstone’, stirring strings soundtrack a relationship that’s gone off the boil. Del Schwartz, a not-so-secret Spotify playlist that AM fans have attributed to Turner (despite an unconvincing recent denial), provides ample clues to the frontman’s sonic inspirations this time round: The Rolling Stones producer Andrew Oldham, Brazilian rockers Os Mutantes and an array of French composers, including Francis Lai, all feature.

‘Hello You’ is where it all comes together most effectively. Resurrecting the swirling guitar riff of ‘AM’s slinky cut ‘Knee Socks’, Helders’ percussion pushes the band forward as dramatic strings dance around Turner’s vocals. It’s immediate and playful, and as alluring as anything on Steely Dan’s 1980 classic ‘Gaucho’. Though more sedate, ‘Jet Skis On The Moat’ and ‘Big Ideas’ conjure colourful scenic images of The Talented Mr Ripley and ’60s James Bond flicks, a clear contrast to the art-house black-and-white cinema of ‘TBH&C’.

The characters that Turner assumes in his songs here are more nuanced and compelling than before. For all the costumes he uses as “writing tools” on ‘Body Paint’, he can’t help but admit that his “teeth are beating and my knees are weak” at the altar of romance, while on ‘There’d Better Be A Mirrorball’ he gives it the “old romantic fool” to little avail. Every moment of triumph is tempered by his own flaws: the faux-luxury of “the Business they call Show” (‘Hello You’) appears increasingly hollow, and by ‘Perfect Sense’, the record’s gorgeous Dion-nodding swansong, “a four-figure sum on a hotel notepad” is all it takes for him to realise the charade is up. There’s a ‘your mum’ joke on ‘Sculptures Of Anything Goes’, too.

‘The Car’ is almost overwhelming in terms of its ambition and scope, but provides ample motive to revisit this record over and over again. Whether it’ll be enough to reach across the divide and convince the naysayers is yet to be seen, but given they’ll be playing in stadiums up and down the UK and beyond next year seems to suggest a rapprochement is in motion. For now, though, Arctic Monkeys stand alone like the abandoned saloon on the rooftop: the last – and greatest – band of their generation still operating at their highest level.

La Biblia nos llama reyes y sacerdotes (Apocalipsis 1:6) y vencedores del mundo (1 Juan 5:4). Pero para la mayoría de nosotros, esas son solo frases. No se han vuelto reales para nosotros. Es por eso que el diablo ha sido capaz de engañarnos para que vivamos una vida de derrota. En realidad, no nos hemos dado cuenta de quiénes somos en realidad.

Si miras en 1 Crónicas 14, verás que David tenía un problema similar. Había sido ungido rey por el profeta Samuel cuando era apenas un adolescente. Había sabido durante años que algún día gobernaría sobre Israel. Sin embargo, de alguna manera, no se había asimilado realmente.

Pero mire lo que sucede en el versículo 2: “Y entendió David que el Señor lo había confirmado por rey sobre Israel, porque su reino era enaltecido a causa de su pueblo Israel”. ¡Finalmente, se dio cuenta! Abraham Levi and the creation of the doors of time

(This is a translated and extended version of a couple of posts I published about this topic some time ago @asongofstarkandtargaryen )

I was thinking about other issues related to Emdt, and then some things began to occur to me about Abraham Levi and how he came to put these doors into operation and the sources from which you may have been inspired or taken ideas for his work in relation to the gates and time travel.

Isabella: What do you want from me, Abraham?

Now we see Abraham Levi (a man in his 60s, thin, weak in appearance, but with a firm voice)

Levi: Protection for my family. In exchange I offer you the work to which I have dedicated my whole life… The Book of Doors…

Location

A first point that I would like to comment on is the possible location of the place where Abraham kept his book.

Abraham Levi is a rabbi from the city of Toledo, and he himself says that the book was in the synagogue.

That is to say, it is a specific one, and due to the dates, taking into account that the mission of the episode 1×04 Una negociación a tiempo takes place in the year 1491 and is located in Toledo, since it has practically all the ballots that Abraham was a rabbi of the synagogue del Tránsito, also known as the synagogue of Samuel ha Levi. The fact is that the origin of this synagogue dates back to the middle of the 14th century, when Samuel Ha Levi Abulafia (Úbeda, Jaén, Andalusia, 1320-Sevilla, Andalusia, 1360), who was treasurer and counselor of Peter I (Burgos, Castile and Leon, August 30, 1334-Montiel, Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha, March 23, 1369), ordered to build it, presumably as a private synagogue of his palace, where currently the House-Museum of El Greco, the painter Doménikos Theotokópoulos (Herakleion, Crete, October 1, 1541-Toledo, Castile-La Mancha, April 7, 1614) is located. Perhaps it could be that Abraham was a relative or descendant of Samuel, so it could make sense that Abraham was in the synagogue that his ancestor had built.

I have focused a lot on the Tránsito synagogue, but it is not the only one in the city, it is usually estimated that there were about 10 synagogues in the city during the Middle Ages, of which some only a few remains remain today, and another that is still standing, which is the synagogue of Santa María la Blanca, also known as the Greater Synagogue, probably built in the 12th century. Unfortunately, as a result of the pogrom of 1391 that the Jewish quarters of some of the main cities of the peninsula suffered, most of the synagogues are either destroyed due to the assaults and popular revolts against the Jewish quarters or are seized by the Catholic Church, as this was the case of the synagogue of Santa María la Blanca.

Subsequently, the only synagogue that was officially preserved as such until the end of the 15th century was the Tránsito synagogue, I suppose that it was preserved that way because it was "private". In the year 1492, the synagogue was requisitioned by Isabella I (Madrigal de las Altas Torres, Ávila, Castile and Leon, April 22, 1451-Medina del Campo, Valladolid, Castile and Leon, November 26, 1504) and Ferdinand II (Sos del Rey Católico, Zaragoza, Aragon, March 10, 1452-Madrigalejo, Cáceres, Extremadura, January 23, 1516) and handed it over to the Order of Calatrava.

Within the known history of the Tránsito synagogue, I don't remember if there was a concrete tale of a fire, although it could be that it was damaged as a result of an assault on the Jewish quarter.

One of the things that mentions Abraham is the School of Translators of Toledo, it is thought that probably the antecedent of this group was created in the 12th century by the archbishop of Toledo, Raimundo de Sauvetât, but it would not be organized as a true institution until the 13th century during the reign of Alfonso X the Wise (or the Astrologist, for his passion and wide knowledge about astrology) (Toledo, November 23, 1221-Sevilla, April 4, 1284), in which Jews, Muslims and Christians worked, in charge of translating into different languages (Arabic, Hebrew, Latin, old Spanish...) the almost lost works of the great Greek thinkers at that time or the translations of some Muslim intellectuals such as Averroes (Córdoba, Al-Andalus, Almoravid Empire, April 14, 1126–Marrakech, Almohad Empire, December 17, 1198) and Avicenia (Bukhara, Great Khorasan, Iran, c. 980-Hamadan, Iran, 1037) of other ancient Greek treatises. And in general they work on medicine, mathematics, astrology, astronomy, philosophy, alchemy, magic and even instruction books for games such as chess, tables and dice.

The thing is, this which has to do with the theme of Abraham and the gates?

One of the things I was thinking about Abraham and the School of Translators in relation to the creation of the gates is that perhaps Abraham had at some point access to some of the texts translated by the school, some treatise related to astrology, philosophy or magic probably, and take ideas that may have been crucial in developing what the doors would be.

Some of them are the Astromagic Book and the Picatrix, which in short, in what they extended was in knowledge of astrology and philosophy, which are used in magic that can be obtained and used by the magician thanks to the astral power of the stars and the planets.

There are several more treatises and books, but it is true that the Picatrix is considered a very important work within these magic manuals of the time, its original name is Ghayat al-hakim, which can be translated as the goal or the end of the wise, and was probably written in the 10th or 11th century by the mathematician, alchemist, astronomist and astrologist Maslama Ibn Ahmad al-Mayriti (or al-Magriti) (Madrid,950-Cordoba, Andalusia, 1007), the latter being interpreted as "the Madrilenian", author of the Treaty for building astrolabes and other mathematical and astronomical calculations, and he was the astrology counselor of al-Manṣūr/ Almanzor "the Victorious" (castle of Turrush, Fuentes de Cesna, Granada or Torrox, Málaga, Andalusia, 939-Medinaceli, Soria, Castile and Leon, August 9, 1002), háyib and chancellor of the Caliphate of Córdoba during the rule of Hisham II (Córdoba, June 11, 965 – Córdoba, May 18, 1013)

Fun fact: In 2015 the extrasolar planet Upsilon Andromedae d, located about 44 light years from Earth, in the Andromeda constellation, was renamed as Majriti, in honor of al-Mayriti.

Madrid was founded in 9th century by the emir Muhammad I of Córdoba (Córdoba, 852- Córdoba, 886), who established the first permanent settlement by building a watchtower in the middle valley of the river Guadarrama (the watchtower turn into an alcazar and then in the 18th century was replaced with the current Royal Palace).This watchtower had the function of guarding the passage towards the mountain range of Guadarrama. Madrid was a military site formed by the Medina (from the arabic Madinat, the city, intramural neighborhoods, there are several spanish towns whose name has the word Medina in it: Medina del Campo, Medina de Pomar, Medina de Rioseco, Miño de Medina, Brahojos de Medina, Villaverde de Medina, Medinaceli, Almedina, Medina Sidonia, Medina de las Torres, Mediñá, Medina Azahara...) and the Almudaina (from the Arabic al-mudayna, citadel), Madrid's Cathedral is named after this, the Santa Maria de la Almudena and the woman name Almudena.

Madrid comes from Mayrit/Magrit:

-Mayrit: from the Arabic “Mayra”, which translates as mother or womb, and the suffix “it”, which means place

-Magrit: a hybrid between the Arabic word “Maǧra”, which means channel or water course, and the suffix romance "it", which indicates abundance, thus conforming the meaning of "place abundant in waters"

Its name refers to the abundance of aquifers and the Manzanares River, and since the foundation of the city the Muslims as masters in channeling water, they used various techniques such as the use of the noria, the storage and distribution of water through ditches, canals and pools, and the qanat, or use of groundwater through conduction.

In fact, it's said that the primitive coat of arms of Madrid was formed by a flint that emerged from the water. In addition, it would have had these two sentences: "I was built on water, my walls of fire are" making reference about the abundance of water, on the one hand, and to the walls of the city, made of silex, that produced sparks and fire in contact with projectiles.

And then I look the etymology of La Mancha (Toledo is the capital of Castile-La Mancha) is funny because it's like quite the opposite. I mean there are some rivers like the Tagus, but still it's quite accurate. There are different theories. One would suppose that the toponym "Mancha" would be pronounced in Arabic as Manxa or Al-Mansha, which translates as "land without water", "land of espartos" or "dry land", and another as Manya, translated as "high plain", "plateau" or "elevated place".

About other interesting details is that the first famous person who was born in Madrid was an astronomist and the flag and the coat of arms of the city of Madrid are related with stars. The flag of the community of Madrid is seven stars divided in two lines at the center in a red field, and the COA is a she-bear with an arbutus, surrounded by a blue bordure with seven white stars, both the flag and the COA are reference to the Ursa Minor or Ursa Maior constellation (7 starts, a she-bear). The first coat of arms of Madrid with the bear consisted in a bear in a field with the Ursa Minor constellation on the animal's back and with the North Star on its tail, because the Polaris star and thus the constellation was important for orienteering for several cultures that established in the region since the Carpetans (one of the Celtiberian tribes, their area was called Carpetania, located in the community of Madrid ans some partsof Castile- La Mancha)

Maybe the reason why the headquarters of the ministry are located in Madrid, instead of Toledo, is because it's a tribute of Abraham Levi to al-Mayriti and his Picatrix. At first someone would say that the ministry is located in Madrid, because it's the capital of Spain, it wasn't until 1561 that the city didn't became the capital.

A deltail relared with these theme: The intro of seasons 1-3 begins with a starry night over Madrid. The Almudena cathedral can be seen in the landscape of the city.

Returning to the main theme, I think that the book of doors can be considered another kind of treatise on astromagic, but later than the others and that it has been the work of Abraham when taking references from other books on astromagic, but although in traditional treatises formulas and magical rituals for all kinds of purposes, Abraham focused on the creation of the doors.

Specifically, the formulas to open these connections between two different times and places are mere speculation because the writers have not focused on giving an exact explanation.

As data is that the internal magical scheme of the doors is clearly inspired by the design of a classic element of the cabal, the Tree of Life. Kabbalah is a mystical study and interpretation of sacred texts that peaked during the Middle Ages, twelfth and thirteenth centuries, specifically by authors from the south of France and Spain.

In the tree of life the 10 emanations of God are represented when creating the universe. And that it is suggested that it is also the structure of the microcosm within the human being, and that similarity is what connects it with the rest of the macrocosm and is also divided into various levels according to the four elements: water, fire, earth and air, and levels of Emanation, Creation, Formation and physical world and in three pillars, rigor or severity, balance and mercy. Then also each of the 10 spheres is associated with some attribute of creation, a planet or a celestial body and a number.

In the episode 3×09 El Cisma del tiempo, it is shown what the internal "code" of the doors is, and therefore the scheme is clearly inspired by the Tree of Life of the Kabbalah.

Bringing together the elements of the cabalistic tree with what has already been mentioned with astromagic, I would say that Abraham may have designed the doors based on placing a combination of letters that are equivalent to numbers (such as the kabbalah system), which may be used to indicate the year and the coordinates of the two places that a time gate connects. Perhaps through numerical coordinates as such and a date, or perhaps this is also accompanied by the position of the stars in the connected places and times, as well as perhaps connecting the two different combinations of the location of the stars , would generate some kind of magical reaction or energy that would allow time travel between both points.

Although there are also some questions about how Abraham created all the existing doors considering that from his point of view in the 15th century, a large number of doors would lead to the future, to years that have not yet passed or to places that such Abraham probably could not know under normal conditions, such as the doors that connect a place with some place in America or some other place that in the past was a Spanish colony. It may also be that he was experimenting with the combinations of numbers in the code and resulted in traveling to other parts of the world (like Abraham suddenly appearing in Havana or Cartagena).

Some points regarding the doors that from the point of view of the time of Abraham is that when he created them, perhaps several of them were located in the time of Abraham or before and that as the years have passed, like most of the doors the time is continuous (except for example some that are in a loop), since time has elapsed normally. I say this because of "time is what it is" and you cannot travel to the future beyond the year in which the main Ministry is located, although it is something quite relative.

Another option is that when Levi was experimenting and creating what the doors would be, he wouldn't put limits on how long to go, and he created doors that led to other times after his own.

Another hypotheses about the doors located in America or elsewhere is that perhaps originally they were not located there, but later someone who knew very well the operation and internal codes of the doors, wanted to move several of those doors to other places, to have better access to them or whatever.

Although I suppose that the internal codes are not mastered by everyone, and the only people apart from Abraham that we have heard that work with directly manipulating some characteristic of the doors are the "technicians" of the current ministry who are mentioned a couple of times throughout the series. From what is intuited, they are Ministry workers who handle a kind of digitized collection of the door codes, and manipulate them from a "computerized" method, we suppose that this computerized registry of the doors may have given rise to the temporary error alert system that is seen in 4×00 Antes de que no haya tiempo, or the mobiles with which the ministry workers can call other times, I suppose that the technicians implanted a chip in the phones with a special operating system that is directly connected to the computer registry of the doors.
