Can Sacroma be Prevented?

There is very little that can be done to prevent this rare kind of cancer. It can be possible for people with no known risk factors to develop this cancer. And unlike other types of cancer, lifestyle changes are not effective in preventing sarcoma.

It's that time again. I used to dread this day. Thankfully, I am more calm these days. Maybe time heals and I've gotten my head around this. I learn to surrender that all shall be well no matter what. Scanxiety is real to do many patients but please don't let your fear stops you. I had a friend who is too scared to come back that in the end the recurrence caught too late. Be our own best health advocate. For as long as we breathe, we ought to hold on every inch of hope. Starting the day nice and early to attend sarcoma meeting. Even get to share awareness about sarcoma to my cab driver. I've asked if he ever heard of sarcoma and he says no. Most people never heard sarcoma. Sarcoma is bone and soft tissue cancer. It is a rare cancer which makes it tricky to diagnose. I was in an advantage that I had to have surgery to remove my tumour because the doctors were puzzled and have no idea what it was. My unexpected diagnosis came though post surgery biopsy within 2 weeks that it was malignant and had the diagnosis of Ewing Sarcoma. There are 70 different subtypes of sarcoma which makes it even trickier to treat. July is a sarcoma awareness month. It can happen to anyone. Today, I shared my Ewing Sarcoma story as part of VCCC #monlunchlive on Sarcoma. I got reconnected with my lovely nurse liaison Emma who has been amazing during my treatment. Even, after I finished my treatment, I contacted her when my GP was worried about a lession on my liver. And, I'm grateful I have Emma as my sarcoma nurse. Cancer care is a long haul. It doesn't stop when the treatment does. It's not just about managing the side effect of post treatment. But also dealing with the fear of recurrence and minimising the possibilities of relapse as efficiently as possible. July is a sarcoma awareness month. It can happen to anyone. #hyperbaricchamber #therapy Completed my first 15 #treatments BUT since I had to have #surgery to save my breast ended up removing #fatnecrosis aka dead tissue & #doublereconstruction my #insurance is now making my #doctors explain why I need my last 15 sessions. Even thou approved for 30 Its a joke so now I have to wait but the insurance review dept told my doctors that I can continue without authorization but gamble that I can be denied and be out of pocket $10K+ .. Hell no my team stood up and said we will not let our patient risk that chance. It’s weird to look at this pic and see my puffy chest and drains under my top. Never thought I had to say this again in #cancer remission Now I am a #sarcomasurvivor as well as #breastcancersurvivor Battled cancer 2x in last 3.5yrs I am #mentally & #physically done no more too much to handle when #diagnosed again I called and cried to my #parents saying sorry I need to go to hospital when got the word Never did I think about getting it again in their life time. Had to tell others it’s not a #cancer recurrence bc it wasn’t #breastcancer my second battle was a secondary cancer #softtissuesarcoma a rare one only seen in women like a 1% chance. No one wants to see their #doctor on #valentinesday BUT when I heard in remission I started to glow. I do #fear cancer now because the unknown my likely of breast is still a 0.03% while sarcoma is unknown since for them only seen my type 3x in 17yrs, will be closely monitored for 2yrs by my #oncology team @hoaghealth Still have a wound but want me walking more to build strength I’ve been given a hall pass for a mini trip for few days TBA later but couped up in home/hospital for 4mos has been driving me 🙃 Right now will use my energy to fight #government regarding my #disability #socialsecurity I’ve been in & out of fighting cancer 2x since Nov 2015 with a lot of #sideffects #nervedamage from #treatment BUT someone without knowing my healthy just sees I have my sis as a roommate or now living w parents that they should be #supporting me #finanically when I have paid into the system since I was 17.
