i wanted to ask if you have a downloadable version of the aromanticism poem game. idk if i have to log in to itch.io or something, but there doesn't seem to be an on site option for it
spent forevvvvsies trying to see if there was a way to download from the itch.io page but i think you're right... smth about making it playable within the browser and also free skips the downloadable options i think. so! little website coming to save my life on file uploads once again. i put a download link on my neocities that should work, let me know if you have any issues!! xoxo

I try not to be haughty about it but being a programmer that got my degree right before the rise of aislop has done wonders for how often I'll see some llm programmer account say something abjectly wrong and I walk away going "I'm never losing my fuckin job bro"

This is your daily reminder to archive your favorite fandom stuff!!!
I've been a voracious archivist/data hoarder ever since I first got access to a computer, and it's paid off more times than I can count. Just the other day I came across a PDF copy of an analysis post for one of my fandoms. The post was made on an old forum and is the most detailed and interesting analysis of a particular story element I've ever seen. Back in like 2012 I saved the post as a PDF, because even then I saved everything I liked.
Anyway, flash forward to 2025 and I decided to see if the URL included in the document was still live. I wasn't very surprised to see that the forum is long dead. However, even the Wayback Machine had no record of this thread. If I hadn't saved a copy of it way back when, I would have never, ever been able to read this analysis again!
The Internet Archive is sadly not infallible, especially when it comes to things like forum threads. You can do your part by manually saving things to the Wayback Machine, but I also recommend keeping your own archives. Aside from just saving pages as PDFs, I highly recommend a browser extension called SingleFile that lets you archive pages as HTML files.

Anyone who's like woah leaking the patreon stuff is too far be so for real right now. People like me funded Kittycorn while she was being deceptive about the nature of her work behind the scenes. Additionally, Kittycorn is literally associated with at least 3 pedophiles (one of which is pro irl incest and abused their sibling who Kittycorn attempted to silence).
I will never get the time I spent in regards to Sparklecare, nor my money back. Neither will anyone else who was mislead in regards to the kind of person Kittycorn was. Minors were also at a point staff on this comic who had no idea the shit Kittycorn was brewing.
It has been incredibly disappointing to further see Kittycorn go back on what she once presented (see the FAQ in regards to what fans can draw/any ask on the main tumblr in regards to the matter), and to see her further deflect refusing to take accountability. There are a lot of vulnerable people in her audience including other survivors. When a safe space of trust is cultivated with a creator who is straight up talking about how to lie to their audience... How do you think it feels for those survivors who kinned or related to Sly only to find out the creator wanted to make them a creepy incestuous rapist stalker. Or Doom who is now a groomer attracted to their goddamn child. How do you think it feels for those survivors to know the creator they looked up to and sought comfort in the work of is buddy buddy with the exact same kind of people who groomed and traumatized them.
If any of the former ZCP wants to do everyone a favour, leak the entire Sparklecare story (and whatever else). At this point I want everything to be scorched earth and hope nothing grows in its place. I hope Kittycorn leaves and doesn't come back to hurt more people.
I encourage anyone to save any of the stuff I've posted / share the archive link.
To be able to see the conclusion of what people cared about is the very least the fans have have been burned deserve.
Other leakers of Sparklecare stuff aside from myself: @doesspchcharacterdie @sparkletrolling @tfemsly @hemeruni @whatever-lions-blog @thesparchives @leakburner @ooblegoodle
Internet archive download links of my Sparklecare and Karmageddon leaks:
Also the callout doc in PDF form in case the OG gets deleted (it is the latest version as of 12/03/2025 but only goes up to page 33 of 44 due to internet archive's file replacement system):

what writing program do you use?
I use LibreOffice, a free open source word processor. It's very customisable, I change my document bg to medium grey so that my eyes don't hurt. It saves documents as .odt by default
When I was finished a book I would open it in Word to run a spelling and grammar check as Word used to have more sophisticated proofreading abilities but the last time I did it it was absolute tripe due to increased implementation of ai. I also use Word to format the pdf for printing
To turn the .odt document into an epub novel i save as .html and open in Calibre to format the ebook. You can then read it using google books or apple books on ur phone
Other programs I've used/tried:
Google docs - the only reason anyone should use this is if they're writing cross platform in which case it can be useful. Hands-down the worst spelling suggestions out there and stupidly lacking in functionality on mobile
Bear (iOS) - it's nice if you like markdown and only exporting as .rtf files in the free version. Works well, stores documents offline, and uses a nice tag system to organise stuff. I wrote all my Siren prose in this
Scrivener - overcomplicated and distracting
Discord - honestly prefer it when writing cross platform over gdocs, sometimes I'll write a paragraph or so on mobile and just paste it into my libreoffice when I get home. My pc is immovably large & I don't own a laptop
Word (for writing) - if you click & drag to highlight text in libre, it will highlight only the exact letters you selected. Word has a fun feature where it makes assumptions about what you REALLY wanted to do and tries to fight you on it. Fuck Word

Previous anon here! I would love to read how you did it. Im suprised you managed to did it in Google Docs. I thought you used a program similar to InDesign or programs that are more suitable for graphic design ANYWAY i am also curious how many chapters you used. Was it seven? Did you stop there because the length was convinient or because a story arc ended there? I am not really good at identifying where an arc begins and stops. okay bcgjkkcj THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
YAYYY I LOVE TALKING ABOUT ARTS AND CRAFTS!!
gonna put this in main tags as well this time so:
Tumblr media
this is my bookbind of trod pt 1 :] by @bamsara which u can and SHOULD read here
ok so this first bit is how I made the pdf and then the next bit is how I turned it into signatures for binding. Then the last bit is splitting up chapters and stuff. If anyone has any advice or tips on what I could do differently (for free or v cheap haha) please let me know!! This is so fun I love learning and discussing and making things
first thing I did was grab a real book so I could take a look at where they put the title page, where they left the pages blank, etc
I then formatted the title and contents and stuff in docs by messing with font and position on the page (etc) until it was to my liking! THEN I realised I wanted an image on the very first page so I went back and put that in. I got to design it it was sooo fun
OH. I ALSO STUCK A SHAMURA QUOTE WHERE THE DEDICATION WOULD BE. HEHE
thennn I went and changed all the heading, title and normal text options for the doc so that they looked nice! I used times new roman size 16 :) but that might be a bit big for most people. I like bigger text
^^ that step was important so that when I started copy-pasting in the text it would all come out the right size automatically. also so that my chapter titles and notes pages looked consistent
next I downloaded trod from ao3 as a html file! I found it works better than pdf bc there aren’t any page breaks
I just copied and pasted trod in one chapter at a time and added in the notes and summary for every chapter where I wanted it and that worked pretty well for me
THEN SPELLCHECK. I didn’t want to do it automatically (docs had some horrible opinions sometimes. Also kept trying to erase bits of the writing style that made perfect sense and sound beautiful???) so I had to confirm every change which took a while but I think was worth it
lastly I added page numbers. They did not want to cooperate with me and I still do not understand the tiny fuckers, but I managed to get them in the middle of the page for book 2 so it looks less weird (hurrah). There’s a button for it
then I saved it as a pdf!
OK NEXT THING : SIGNATURES
this post is my bestest friend (link is to a tumblr post that was really helpful)
and this webpage is how I got a pdf of the signatures (it’s the same one linked in the post)
CHAPTERS:
yeah I split it into chunks of 7 chapters! Book 1 ends on the argument in the field bc a) it was getting wayyy too long and b) I want to lend it to my friends and that’s a delightful emotional cliffhanger. Book 2 (which is actually finished. I’ll try and post photos later today or something) ends after hekets release from purgatory which is I thiiiink another 7 chapters? Book 3 is gonna be a bit longer bc I want to do it up to the most recent chapter, which I was gonna leave out bc of length but then it came out and I went insane haha
OH in book 2 I did drop caps and title decoration which I designed in procreate and then imported into docs and moved around as imported photos. I’ll put a bunch of pictures at the end too
THANK U FOR ASKING!!! If there’s anything else u want to know then let me know!! :]

Are Game Blogs Uniquely Lost?
All this started with my looking for the old devlog of Storyteller. I know at some point it was linked from the blogroll on the Braid devlog. Then I tried to look at on old devlog of another game that is still available. The domain for Storyteller is still active. The devblog is gone.
I tried an old bookmark from an old PC (5 PCs ago, I think). It was a web site linked to pixel art and programming tutorials. Instead of linking to the pages directly, some links link led to a twitter threads by authors that collected their work posted on different sites. Some twitter threads are gone because the users were were suspended, or had deleted their accounts voluntarily. Others had deleted old tweets. There was no archive. I have often seen links accompanied by "Here's a thread where $AUTHOR lists all his writing on $TOPIC". I wonder if the sites are still there, and only the tweets are gone.
A lot of "games studies" around 2010 happened on blogs, not in journals. Games studies was online-first, HTML-first, with trackbacks, tags, RSS and comment sections. The work that was published in PDF form in journals and conference proceedings is still there. The blogs are gone. The comment sections are gone. Kill screen daily is gone.
I followed a link from critical-distance.com to a blog post. That blog is gone. The domain is for sale. In the Wayback Machine, I found the link. It pointed to the comment section of another blog. The other blog has removed its comment sections and excluded itself from the Wayback Machine.
I wonder if games stuff is uniquely lost. Many links to game reviews at big sites lead to "page not found", but when I search the game's name, I can find the review from back in 2004. The content is still there, the content management systems have been changed multiple times.
At least my favourite tumblr about game design has been saved in the Wayback Machine: Game Design Tips.
To make my point I could list more sites, more links, 404 but archived, or completely lost, but when I look at small sites, personal sites, blogs, or even forums, I wonder if this is just confirmation bias. There must be all this other content, all these other blogs and personal sites. I don't know about tutorials for knitting, travel blogs, stamp collecting, or recipe blogs. I usually save a print version of recipes to my Download folder.
Another big community is fan fiction. They are like modding, but for books, I think. I don't know if a lot of fan fiction is lost to bit rot and link rot either. What is on AO3 will probably endure, but a lot might have gone missing when communities fandom moved from livejournal to tumblr to twitter, or when blogs moved from Wordpress to Medium to Substack.
I have identified some risk factors:
Personal home pages made from static HTML can stay up for while if the owner meticulously catalogues and links to all their writing on other sites, and if the site covers a variety of interests and topics.
Personal blogs or content management systems are likely to lose content in a software upgrade or migration to a different host.
Writing is more likely to me lost when it's for-pay writing for a smaller for-profit outlet.
A cause for sudden "mass extinction" of content is the move between social networks, or the death of a whole platform. Links to MySpace, Google+, Diaspora, and LiveJournal give me mostly or entirely 404 pages.
In the gaming space, career changes or business closures often mean old content gets deleted. If an indie game is wildly successful, the intellectual property might ge acquired. If it flops, the domain will lapse. When development is finished, maybe the devlog is deleted. When somebody reviews games at first on Steam, then on a blog, and then for a big gaming mag, the Steam reviews might stay up, but the personal site is much more likely to get cleaned up. The same goes for blogging in general, and academia. The most stable kind of content is after hours hobbyist writing by somebody who has a stable and high-paying job outside of media, academia, or journalism.
The biggest risk factor for targeted deletion is controversy. Controversial, highly-discussed and disseminated posts are more likely to be deleted than purely informative ones, and their deletion is more likely to be noticed. If somebody starts a discussion, and then later there are hundreds of links all pointing back to the start, the deletion will hurt more and be more noticeable. The most at-risk posts are those that are supposed to be controversial within a small group, but go viral outside it, or the posts that are controversial within a small group, but then the author says something about politics that draws the attention of the Internet at large to their other writings.
The second biggest risk factor for deletion is probably usefulness combined with hosting costs. This could also be the streetlight effect at work, like in the paragraph above, but the more traffic something gets, the higher the hosting costs. Certain types of content are either hard to monetise, and cost a lot of money, or they can be monetised, so the free version is deliberately deleted.
The more tech-savvy users are, the more likely they are to link between different sites, abandon a blogging platform or social network for the next thing, try to consolidate their writings by deleting their old stuff and setting up their own site, only to let the domain lapse. The more tech-savvy users are, the more likely they are to mess with the HTML of their templates or try out different blogging software.
If content is spread between multiple sites, or if links link to social network posts that link to blog post with a comment that links to a reddit comment that links to a geocities page, any link could break. If content is consolidated in a forum, maybe Archive team could save all of it with some advance notice.
All this could mean that indie games/game design theory/pixel art resources are uniquely lost, and games studies/theory of games criticism/literary criticism applied to games are especially affected by link rot. The semi-professional, semi-hobbyist indie dev, the writer straddling the line between academic and reviewer, they seem the most affected. Artists who start out just doodling and posting their work, who then get hired to work on a game, their posts are deleted. GameFAQs stay online, Steam reviews stay online, but dev logs, forums and blog comment sections are lost.
Or maybe it's only confirmation bias. If I was into restoring old cars, or knitting, or collecting stamps, or any other thing I'd think that particular community is uniquely affected by link rot, and I'd have the bookmarks to prove it.
Figuring this out is important if we want to make predictions about the future of the small web, and about the viability of different efforts to get more people to contribute. We can't figure it out now, because we can't measure the ground truth of web sites that are already gone. Right now, the small web is mostly about the small web, not about stamp collecting or knitting. If we really manage to revitalise the small web, will it be like the small web of today except bigger, the web-1.0 of old, or will certain topics and communities be lost again?

I think you are my favorite poet on tumblr. I've been off for a few years, but I came back and was pleasantly surprised to find you again. Bit of a silly logistics question--but, I noticed you post pictures of your poems; how do you find it? I am considering moving to this approach because I am beleaguered and weary from messing with html. I don't have as much control over line length, which can mess with cadence. And I want a different font, perhaps. I guess I was curious about your insight into something that is maybe insignificant, so feel free to decline to respond.
thank you 🤍 i really enjoy your writing too! yeah, messing with the formatting with text on here was annoying which is why i ended up posting them as pictures. i just save them as a PDF in word, then use photoshop (you can use photopea too which is online & free) and import the pdf into a new document that's sized like 3000x3000 and then just scale the poem to fit and crop accordingly, this way it's readable on desktop + mobile without having to click on the picture. it doesn't take that long to do. i've been using the font heldane text lately, i did use garamond in the past. there's websites like 1001fonts that lets you preview the font with whatever text you type in, so you can find something that you do like! hope this helps :)

tutorial on how to download ao3 fanfics!
you have a fanfic you love? do you have a fanfic that has a lot of chapters and you want to save it somewhere? I have a solution!
For this to work you need a reading app. I use Apple Books, but you can also use Files and Kindle. I also believe Google Play Books will work but since I don't know I didn't include it.
I also want to add that I have an iphone but I'm sure this will work for android
Find the fanfiction you want to download.
2. See that download button on the top? press it and a bit above it some options will show up. There should be AZW3, EPUB, MOBI, PDF, and HTML.
Tumblr media
3. Click either EPUB and PDF. If you are using Kindle and Apple Books click EPUB. If you are using Files click PDF. (For Google Play Books you can use either.)
Tumblr media
4. It will start downloading. Once its done downloading, click where ever the download location is. (Chrome it will be on the bottom for phone, I am unsure for others
Tumblr media
5. It should bring up a list of the apps that are able to "hold" the file. Click the one you have. for files you will have to click save to files
Tumblr media
6. Go to which ever app you chose if it doesn't automatically bring you there.
7. Click the fanfiction and it will either A.) open the fic or B.) download the fic. Don't worry if it starts to download again, especially if its on Files. After its done downloading, you can read it.
8. Enjoy!

i wish i could show you my art but anon asking doesn't allow imagessss
-🗝️
I did some adjustments to my blog. Not sure how worthwhile it is, but if it makes you all feel more comfortable with sending images, then I don't mind.
Tumblr media
If you see, now on my desktop view, there is a file upload widget. I had to brush up on some HTML and CSS to remember how to pad it with the theme(😩), but it's there.
I'm fairly certain it's only available on my web format of the blog page since it's a part of my custom theme.
It kind of fits weird into the blog, but I'll worry about its aesthetic later. Maybe. Nonetheless, I coded in a minimising feature in case it became an eyesore.
Tumblr media
It's also draggable, but I think I might have scuffed that bit up. Oops.
I probably should've just made this widget an interactive slider instead, but meh. I'm not much of a coder anyways.
So, what is it?
This is fileinbox, an website that allows anonymous file uploads. Everything uploads to a folder on my email that informs me of when files are uploaded.
Tumblr media
All files will only last seven days.
Do note that there is no prompt to verify the files you are sending. Whatever you upload when you choose a file will automatically upload, so please make sure you are certain you are sending the files you want to send.
I don't know how to know who sends it, so, if you're an anon sending it and have a claimed emoji, please save the files with the emoji.
For example: [file name] - 🗿.pdf
EDIT: If you would like me to not post anything you send, please name the file:
TO NOT POST: [filename] - [anon_emoji] - NP.[file extension] TO ALLOW POST: [filename] - [anon_emoji] - P.[file extension]
HOW TO RENAME FILES
Please do let me know if you have any complications. I did some testing, so I'm somewhat certain it should be up and running smoothly.

Do you know how to save not just a fanfic, but all the comments on it? An author I follow has been discussing deleting their work but I don't just want to save that, I really liked the comments, as they discussed their process on how to create a realistic world built off of the hints of worldbuilding we get in canon. That's valuable stuff to me and I'd like to save it, but I don't know how.
--
Have you tried saving the page as html? As a pdf?
AO3's native downloads won't do this, but any standard way of saving a webpage should be able to if you're on the page with the comments.
Anyone have thoughts?

Hi, I was wondering if you have a copy of Myrna’s four part fic If You Needed Me (If You Needed Me / I Would Come to You / I’d Swim the Seas / For To Ease Your Pain) I don’t know how the archived works and I don’t have acces
Hello dear sweet anon! Yes, I’ve got a link to Myrna’s fics. I recommend you save them as PDFs because they’re not on Archive of Our Own or even Midnight Whispers or Kinnetik Dreams.
They live halfway down this webpage:
https://web.archive.org/web/20040209015703/http://www.toolunaticsnwon.com/html/myrna_s_fiction.html
They are some of the best writing in this fandom. Truly some of my favorite fanfiction from any fandom, ever. Enjoy!

bookbinding question: how did you format the pages so that they read in the correct order when stacked and folded into signatures?
Hi! I use Word to create my signatures and typeset them to read like a book. I followed amazing tutorials from Hana Bobb on TikTok - I'd really recommend looking at her content but here's the bare bones! (If you use other applications this probably won't be as helpful for you, I'm sorry!)
First things first, you need to get your word document set up. From the top ribbon, go to Layout, then select Margins > Custom Margins which will open a page setup popup window. Here are the page size, margins, and layout settings I use:
Tumblr media
My margins are set based on US Letter sized paper. I find that they're not too big but allowed me to trim the foredges and don't eat up the text in the spine.
HOWEVER, if you're typesetting a really large fic, you're going to want to increase your side margins! For example, I am typesetting a tandem read of TRTTD/ATWT that is 900+ pages and my side margins are .65" to compensate for the deeper, rounded spine and the amount I'll have to trim off the foredge.
If you're uncertain if you like your margins, you can do test prints of the first signature to see how your margins end up looking.
Our page orientation is landscape because, although we want our individual pages to be portrait, each landscape page will have two portrait pages.
By setting the "multiple pages" setting to book fold, you will automatically print into signatures that you can then sew and glue into a book.
Sheets per booklet is really personal preference, just in mind that one sheet of paper is equal to FOUR book pages (two front and two back). So my 32 page booklets take 8 sheets of paper. Some people do 7, others do up to 10! It's harder to punch holes in 8+ pages of signatures, but easier to sew in my opinion.
From here, you can input your text! You can post the raw html from AO3 into the document which which bring over the text and general formatting, and you can format chapters, headings, title pages, etc. from there. This is a time consuming process but is really helpful when familiarizing yourself with how typesetting works. If you do go with this option, I'd again recommend Hana Bobb's detailed tutorials - she goes over incredible info for newbies and I wouldn't be half as good as I am without her guidance.
If you're not interested in deep diving on typesetting, you can do what I do now which is use a Word macro from the macro mommy herself - Blak Books Bindery.
She has some incredible macros which allow you to quickly and easily add text dividers, drop caps, and so much more to your typesets! The one I use the most is her "Raw-Text Formatting" macro which allows you to copy raw text directly from AO3 into the word document and turn it into a formatted typeset through computer magic. I usually just use this as a starting point and heavily adjust the aesthetics from there, but it saves so much time moving author notes, formatting chapters into sections, adding title and publishing pages, etc.
After your typeset is formatted how you want it, you can print it! I typically go into File > Print and select "Print to PDF."
Tumblr media
This allows you to save the document as a PDF. You can print directly from Word but I haven't tried it since people say it really messes up the formatting.
Your finished typeset file should look something like this:
Tumblr media
Just print this double sided with "flip on the short edge" selected, and start folding! Even if you're super confident about your typeset, I would highly recommend test printing your first signature on paper you don't care about. I've caught misaligned page numbers, margin issues, and other problems this way and saved myself the headache and reams of paper.
That's it! I hope this answered your question, I went probably went overboard but I'm not sure what knowledge you're working with so I wanted to be thorough. If you or anyone else has any other questions, feel free to reach out through asks or DMs!
