He blinked, blushing as he saw her robe pool at her feet. "Isis Ishtar... You fought in battle city..." He knew the rumors about her future sight, believed they were true, but didn't know they were this strong... "Wait... Me? Save the world? No way. I'm just... A Duelist studying at Duel Academy... I was on Tumblr this morning as I am wont to do, and they showed me another cover of 1998's Mutant X series. I felt like deja vu, but then I kept gaslighting myself because I didn't think I had collected Mutant X.

Ergo loading my comic book database, a spreadsheet in Apple's knock-off Excel, where I find I did indeed collect the entire run of Mutant X, but there was catch. I had the A & B issues of #2, but no number one. #SayWhatNow

I was like WTF, how did I collect an entire run but not the first issue? This is what I think happened, one of the A & B covers was a special crossover with the Fantastic Four, and when I was actively collecting one of the things I tried to do is buy ANY comic that had the FF as guest stars ergo I had two issues of Mutant X #2, but no number one. #🤦🏿‍♂️

Promptly I slid over to eBae to rectify the issue, where I found a ninety-nine cent copy of number one, but the shipping was $3.95 basically making the single book five bucks, so since it was a comic book store profile, I clicked "seller's other items" to see if I could find some less than three dollar comic books to at least make the shipping worth it. Most of these 'stores' will discount you if you buy multiple things from them and I think they took ten percent off for each additional item. I copped two volume two Dr. Strange comics and one Alpha Flight volume one which actually filled in a hole in my collection.

Due to the fact I have finite space in my Missouri-made wooden comic boxes, all thirty one of them, I had decided not to buy any more paper comics. Albeit I still LOVE handling my comic books its just wiser, if I want to read something to just download a digital version.

This and the fact that I am feeling very dubious about how to handle my estate, and currently don't see any of the kids really worthy of inheriting anything from me, full stop. I am seriously hoping these feelings change, although I am doubtful they will. Unlike whyte folks who have had centuries of intergenerational wealth passed down, Black people aren't as familiar with that experience, so we have a tendency to neglect relationships that we don't see as immediately gratifying. Whereas whyte kids know they better suck up to auntie, uncle, mom and dad because they may get left a house, or better yet a trust fund.

“Puppet Girl!”-Kai in Welcome Home

𝚂𝚢𝚗𝚘𝚙𝚜𝚒𝚜: 𝙺𝚊𝚒 𝙳𝚛𝚎𝚠 𝚐𝚎𝚝𝚜 𝚢𝚘𝚒𝚗𝚔𝚎𝚍 𝚞𝚙 𝚒𝚗𝚝𝚘 𝚆𝚎𝚕𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝙷𝚘𝚖𝚎. 𝙲𝚑𝚊𝚘𝚜 𝚎𝚗𝚜𝚞𝚎𝚜.

Kai watches her phone ring, the TV still blaring static in the background. Who was calling her? Admittedly, even though Kai was a local celebrity of sorts, Kai wasn’t the most...social person.

 She could count the amount of friends she had on one hand, and she was pretty awkward, only really being able to loosen up and talk when someone she knew and was comfortable with was around. So, if someone needed to talk to her, they’d certainly call her on her phone. Kai wonders for a bit, thoughts swirling around her head, until she lands on one idea. ‘Gosh darn telemarketers.’ Kai thought this was pretty logical. So, she picks up the phone, ready to reject their sales pitch. “

Hullo? Kai Drew speaking.” Kai taps her finger on the receiver, prepared to reject some quick witted salesman’s pitch.

 “Hello, neighbor...” A soft, slow sounding voice crackles out on the other line. Kai blinks. This was certainly not what she was expecting. 

“Uh...Who is this?” Kai asks, confused. Was this some sort of welcoming ritual done by one of her new neighbors?

 “Wally.” The voice replies. 

“Wally who?” Kai asks. Was there a Wally on her floor? 

“Darling.” The voice says. 

Kai coughs. “Excuse me, sir, but this is no time for pet names-” 

“No, my name is Wally Darling.” The voice says, its tone barely changing. Kai blinks. 

‘Wha- Like that puppet from that one website?’ Kai thinks to herself. 

The voice chuckles. But it's not like a normal person laughing. It’s like something trying to imitate the concept of a laugh. Just the word “Ha” repeated in a flat, yet slightly happy tone of voice. “Yes, like that puppet from that one website. I’ve seen you looking at it. Looking at me.” 

Kai blinks. How’d he know what she was thinking? She was sure she didn’t say anything out loud. She brushes this off, trying to tell herself that she accidentally said it out loud. She had a habit of doing this after all. 

“How’d you get this number?” Kai asks, trying to sound as stern as possible. 

“...phone.” 

Kai blinks, confused. What’d they mean by that? “That’s...not a good answer.” She sighs, exasperated. 

“This is some sorta’ prank, right? Is this Hana? Kou? Mitsu? C’mon, guys, not funny. I just moved in, don’t prank me first thing! That’s predictable.” Kai says, planting her free hand on her hip. 

The voice sounds confused. “...Who’re those? I told you who I am, neighbor. Wally. I’m not pranking you in the slightest.” 

Kai rolls her eyes. “Suuuure you are. You definitely aren’t one of my friends trying to scare the pants offa’ me. Just give it up, man. I know it’s one of you guys!” 

Rather than an admittance of guilt and then the sound of her pals laughing in the background, the voice just starts to sound slightly happier. “I’d love to be your friend, neighbor!” and shortly after, she could hear some murmuring in the background, as if the voice was talking to someone, something, or themselves. She only caught the words “maybe” and “more”. Kai brushes the last part off and sighs. 

“No- That’s not what I-” 

“I’ll be seeing you later...Kai.” 

The voice then hangs up. Kai blinks.

 “...Kai?” She mutters to herself. 

That was not her friends. Her friends never really called her Kai. They’d always opted for the nickname K. Kai sets the receiver onto the charging station. She looks towards her TV, which was still blaring static. She can start to hear the murmur of words. 

“I see you, neighbor...you’re pretty...” 

Kai blinks. “Saywhatnow-” 

“...pretty.” 

Kai, now slightly scared and severely uncomfortable, shuts her TV off and heads to her room, ready to try and fall asleep. 

“That was weird.”
