Last year in my chemistry lab we had to do an experiment where we tried to replicate homeostasis in the body

And we had this pH meter. And it was one of the best ones I've ever used, up until

it started reading bases as acids.

So now I call it the "You Tried" pH meter

Had what is technically a big breakthrough moment but also instaainvalidates like a quarter of my prior work on this project and like, yay but also oh my fucking god. I wish I was a mushroom instead of a scientist. The only way I could accurately express the emotion I'm feeling right now is like. Physically exploding. I wish it was acceptable in the lab to just scream the loudest that is humanly possible. I want to eat several rocks or perhaps a thick slab of crunchy frosted glass. Why isn't it legal to lay face down on the floor in an institution of learning. I'm so pissed off.

FINALLY discussing stuff I’m passionate about in my evolution class. origins of life, RNA world hypothesis, etc.

I knew about panspermia but I didn’t know the whole theory about the universe as a whole being habitable 13.7 billion years ago during an age of moderate heat leftover from the big bang. like fucking WHAT!!!!!!??!!?!!!!!?

of course heavier elements wouldn’t be created until the first stars formed and went supernova, but the precursors for life (pretty much exclusively made up of light elements) could’ve been abundant and subsequently preserved inside asteroids and ice for billions of years.

and the research and calculations done with the exponential model of genome size, working backwards to a small genome that would’ve had to exist 10 billion years ago…
