Whumpdev=alive?????????
Just askin :3
yes!
chained in my basement, malnourished and mistreated, but not forgotten, and still very much alive.
unfortunately, college has been kicking my ass lately, and will continue to do so until i finish my master's thesis. the good news is that this will continue for only about a month before i have more time to work on the project! the bad news is that i have only about a month to finish the entire paper. :' )
here's a little screenshot from a story sequence to prove that the project has not been completely neglected and forgotten!

i haven't played minecraft in years, but with the armadillo winning the vote, i think about how wolves don't really have much going on in terms of their utility. like anytime i tame a wolf, i end up just kinda keeping them sitting at home.
i think if mojang really does feel like wolves are deserving of armour, with the addition of armadillos, they really need to update wolves to be more useful as companion mobs, because personally... i never feel the urge to bring a wolf with me when im going out to do things, especially if it involves combat.
like, what do dogs do best? fetching stuff and digging, right? like i wish that i could just mill about with a wolf and they track a scent or something and start digging into the dirt and then proceed to bring you that item. like it could range from rarely digging up iron nuggets to digging up vegetables or whatever, yknow. combine the fetching stuff with combat and you wouldn't have to manually pick up stray arrows or items from mobs your wolf kills.
the only other thing i wish you could do with wolves is automate their health in some way, like give more utility to the bowl item so you can place it down for them to eat from so you don't have to constantly manage their health by looking at their tail. just minor quality of life stuff i guess.
idk, that's just my thoughts. i do like wolves in minecraft, they just feel rather lacking with the way some new mobs have so much going on, like the sniffer and allay and so on.

Honestly the price of the Switch 2 has me considering just buying a Steam deck instead 😭
(I know you can only play Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles tho…)
Steam deck is good but I’m not really in a position to say that when I’ve only used it to play Infinity Nikki (which isn’t even on steam so getting it running took me 2.5 hours and cost me my sanity) and Werecleaner
Unfortunately I am devoted to the Zelda franchise so I will eventually crack and get the Switch 2

The damage in my hometown is - I can’t wrap my head around it, honestly, or even believe the pictures. I keep thinking I’m going to go home and the roads and bridges and buildings will be as they always have. Unfortunately, it seems like Helene tried her damnedest to wash humanity out of the mountains. My childhood home, complete with brother and sister’s husband, appears to be fine, but is no longer accessible by road, since the river has eaten it. It also ate a swinging bridge that has hung thirty feet above the river for a hundred years (planks replaced occasionally, cables probably refreshed sometime? Designated a public highway, hilariously, so it got state maintenance. Gone, in any case). We heard my brother’s voice today for the first time since Thursday. My sister still hasn’t heard her husband’s. The water may not be back running in my hometown for two months.
We’re all fine and my family is fine and it’s fine. But the specific places and plants I grew up with beside the river are gone, and for some reason that’s the bit I’m struggling to wrap my head around - the one iron tree more beautiful in shape than any other. The place by the mine hill where the spring beauties bloomed first. The blackberry patch under the rock face. The bank where the bloodroot grew. Will there be any trout lilies next spring, or have their bulbs all washed down river? How will the river have changed its face?
And what will my family find when the river recedes? Normally, it’s a bit exciting - the river has given us irises and pumpkins and barrels of gas and basketballs before, after a flood. But with all I’m hearing, I’m worried that my family will stumble across horrors. What will be caught on the rocks?

#Excel is actually a decent editor for writing Java#it makes it very difficult to make some of the most common Java mistakes#like writing code in Java
"Lol"
"Lmao" even.
Is this an "I have written too much Java" emotion or an "I refuse to touch Java" emotion?
I am, perhaps, overstating my aversion to the language - I don't really hate Java, I just don't find it terribly fun to work in (although it's been years since the last time I had to, so maybe IDE advances have made it more palatable now). I've worked on some Java projects that were quite well put together, but I've also seen my share of code with types like ProducerFactory<FactoryProducer, IGatewayFactoryFactory>.
In general if speed is not an essential part of a project I prefer to write in Python for its terseness and extremely effective syntactic sugar (context managers, generators, etc.), and if speed IS essential then various C variants, Rust, or even Go will almost certainly outperform Java. So it's not entirely clear to me why Java is still used outside of legacy code.

Weekend WIP Game 16/3/24
Ahaha whups I was out last night so here we are! I have time before I go to work so it's fiiiiine
Same wips! I think I have, once again, maybe mostly been writing Maverick this week, although some Chant did get in (Chant's story noticeably not being on the list lmao)
The WIPS
Shapeshifter wip (fantasy, star crossed lovers, spies and war. Characters; Syn, Halliel, Bryn. There really isn't much on this one lmaooo)
Soul of the Party (fantasy, light detective shenanigans, sword tournament, theft. Characters; Selene, Solaris, Jasper, Llinos, Nuvian, Elise, Tadhg, Tamhas, Skren)
Dumb of Ass, Snake of Tits (local dragonborn monk leaves the monastery, instantly falls in with the wrong crowd, somehow sticks the landing. Characters; Maverick, Nelaeryn, Venphina, Tosh (Temerity, Aria))
Hunter’s Mark (local tiefling ranger gets hired to track down a company asset, ends up in the revenge business. Characters; Temerity, Aria (Maverick, Nelaeryn))
But y'know, as per, the wips page has them all and just ask for any of them because focus is an illusion
The Games
Three by Threes: For each filename you receive in your ask box, reply to the ask with 3+ NEW sentences on that WIP.
Lore Corner: Answer questions about your WIP. It can be anything from headcanons to backstory that you have for your WIP that don’t even make it into the fic. Askers - get creative with your questions!

hiii!! this is kind of a weird request, but i'd really like to know your thoughts on al-g rhythm from space jam 2
i know he's not a looney tune and it's definitely a little off this blog's purpose, so obviously you dont have to!!
(but if you do i'm willing to do literally anything in return!!)
No worries, I'll happily offer my thoughts! I do have some opinions about the Space Jam movies and Al G.
My positives are when he's played up for comedy, he's very entertaining as an antagonist. I like how pathetic and scummy he is that he holds a vendetta over Lebron cuz the guy rejected his offers of making him a corporate IP (irony to portray that in a Space Jam movie), and I think it's funny in itself when he tries to insist on people taking him seriously.
Negatives are when the narrative and characters actually insist he's a serious threat. His thing against Lebron is petty and relies on the viewer to believe Lebron is such a GOAT(TM) that it's justified that Al G is acting like a possessive ex over being rejected. His thing against the Looney Tunes felt like a personal vendetta with how he specifically encouraged the tunes to split off from their situated planet -- but it's never explored sincerely so I find it half-baked at best. I also find it frustrating that his words got under Bugs' skin -- honestly, I just don't like the "Looney Tunes are irrelevant" plot point in general, I think it makes them look like desperate clout-chasers and ruins any novelty fun in watching the tunes interacting with other IPs. It's just so corporate, uncreative, and reeks of typical Hollywood Blockbuster sanitisation.
Tangent aside, I feel that Al G should be as deep as Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam in my eyes, he serves his antagonist role fittingly -- there's no need for deeper motive beyond ego and shattered pride. But he contributes to the movie's overall Lebron shilling that feels, in itself, like a meta running gag. I don't buy Lebron's hype as a viewer, not the way I buy MJ's hype in the first film cuz it at least offered a compilation of his actual basketball highlights so I can infer his legacy status.
Al G is a foil to Lebron as an entity that seeks out affirmation and legacy, which assumedly Lebron possesses. But Lebron as a character relies on too much external recognition and good faith perception to his real life counterpart that, as a result, causes the movie to be almost incoherent in its narrative and with its characters. Al G consequently feels like he's always talking hot air, and is barely cohesive as an antagonist. Many one-off classic looney tunes antagonists do better in their roles than he does in his.
I also just see him as an antagonist born out of cowardice. Cuz it's all too convenient that the main villain for the corporatisation and IP touting is a non-human algorithm with no further associations to any accountable human beings who created him. Back in Action had the Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum Warner Brothers, and the classic shorts sometimes namedropped animation directors as their bosses -- so it's pretty cheap to me, that the main villain was personified AI with a superiority complex.
Coyote vs ACME at least puts a name to their corporate villain, SJ2 literally blames AI for the downfall of society /j
