[SDL] To Be Needed
[Next]
We see Jack at Kasutoru's, sitting down on the floor next to a table, calmly sipping some tea. He hears a knock at the entrance.
Kuraima: "M-mister Jack? A-are you in here?"
Jack: "…?"
Jack: "Kuraima…? What brings you to-"
Kuraima is stares up at him sheepishly and reveals his arm covered in bloody bandages.
Jack: "...Ah…."
-----------------------------------------
Inside, Jack inspects and unravels the bandages on Kuraima's arm.
Jack: "Did you… dress these yourself…? It's surprisingly… well done…."
Kuraima: "Yes! Thank you! I didn't want to bother anyone, and since this job comes with a lot injuries, I've learned how to take care of- Augh!!"
Kuraima winces as Jack applies the medicine on his arm.
Jack: "Sorry…I should have said something…" Kuraima: "It's okay… It j-just surprised me."
Jack grimaces as he looks at the wound.
Jack: "This… looks pretty bad… Does Clarice… know you're here…?" Kuraima: "No… I didn't want to worry her."
He pauses.
Kuraima: "P-Please don't tell her I came here?" Jack: "Kuraima…. You know I will…"
Kuraima frowns as Jack stands up to walk over to his medicine cabinet.
Jack: "You shouldn't move too much… for the next 2-3 weeks. No strenuous activities…. No fighting."
Kuraima: "!"
Jack: "I want you to rest… and focus on recovering. I know… you're a light sleeper… So I'll give you something… to aid that."
Kuraima: "But... what if Clarice needs me? If she's going someplace dangerous, I have to be there to protect her!"
Jack: "Then Clarice will just have to wait… on going anyplace dangerous… now won't she?"
Kuraima fidgets nervously. Kuraima: "She shouldn't have to wait because of me…"
Jack turns to face him.
Jack: "Kuraima… This is exactly why… I tell her about your injuries." "She's a smart girl… But she's not a mind-reader. It doesn't matter… how good you are at strategizing….. if you don't know… everything you need... to plan correctly…."
Kuraima looks away.
Kuraima: "I just don't think she should have to limit herself for my sake. My job is to keep her safe. What use am I to her if I can't even do that?"
Jack huffs. Jack: ("It's so difficult to get through to this boy…")
Jack: "...Alright, then. Say we don't tell her... and you ended up needing to fight for your lives."
Jack taps Kuraima's infected arm.
"I can tell you with certainty… that if you tried to take care of this by yourself... and left it alone for another week… you would've lost your arm."
Kuraima: "…!!"
Jack: "Had you gone to battle... your wounds not fully healed..." "Under those circumstances… What do you think could happen…?"
Kuraima: "……"
Jack: "All I'm saying is… if it isn't dire… wouldn't you agree that it'd be smarter… to wait until you've recovered?"
Kuraima stays silent.
Jack: "She needs you, Kuraima… And being needed… means sometimes… you must let others to take care of you… so that you can properly take care of them." Jack: "Do you understand?"
Kuraima: "….." Kuraima: "I just…" Kuraima: "I just want to be useful to her…"
Jack: "I know." Jack: "Just remember… Even if she doesn't show it well… she cares about you. You'll always be worth something to her… if not as a bodyguard… then as a dear friend."
Kuraima looks up, slightly abashed.

let's see if you feel more familiar with the song after his performances. the choreo looks amazing, doesn't it? there are a few songs from BTS that i actually don't listen to as much as others, but I LOVE when they perform it. like idol, not today and mic drop. they're too energetic for me, but a must when they perform together.
yoongi's people pt.2 too. i didn't listen to it that much but after he sang it on the tour i always remember the crowd singing together and i started to love it even more. the same with SDL, now i remember the fanchant everytime and it just got better. it's incredible how live performances can change your feelings/perspectives towards a song!
i felt a little ? about some of jack's verses at first, but after i read some infos and explanations on twitter about "ABG" and the "dead body" part, i started to like it more. i also read a cool interpretation of the mv, so i'll share it here, in case you (or anyone who may read it) want to see it.
https://twitter.com/SaraBangtan07/status/1707632366838001750?t=reMZCrJBjVYKWriZIvPMrg&s=19
i still like the alternate ver. more tho xD and if you still don't like the song after all... it's okay 💖💖
I’m always a sucker for a good choreo, so yes I’m definitely looking forward to performance videos! the key move(s) seem so fun. some songs really start to truly shine once they’re actually performed, you’re right. although I had to laugh at your choices of yoongi songs agdhgj, cause these will and always be some of my least favourites of his sometimes you just don’t like a certain song and nothing will change that, and as you said at the end, it’s okay! the members have been trying out so many different styles and genres, I’d be impressed if anyone equally enjoys ALL of them. I’m happy to hear the song grew on you already by reading into the lyrics and finding fun interpretations! not sure how much of these things were actually intended by the mv makers aghdg but I don’t think it’s harmful to have a little fun with making up deeper meanings etc!

Week 3 SDL
Te Awaroa Helensville:
The Helensville Museum site showcases the history of Southern Kaipara, and the various cultures that helped form the region. First were the Polynesian settlers and then European settlers were lured by the Kaipara River.
The museum offers a number of buildings such as the Headmasters House from Helensville School, Hedley House set out as an Edwardian home, The Helensville Courthouse Aotearoa’s first designated Native Land Court, The Hec Nichols Memorial Barn full of farming and timber implements, The Waitoki Schoolroom and The Roy Monk Building with office and archives.
The Headmasters House was built in 1883 as residence for the headmaster of Helensville School and his family. In 1977, interior alterations marked the school’s centenary and as a response to the Education Board’s intentions to demolish and replace it. It was gifted to the musuem in 1999.
The Headmasters House holds an array of exhibitions that such as RSA memorabilia that tell stories of the Kaipara Harbour. They are looking into display Māori galleries to inform on their earlier history.
Hedley House is an Edwardian cottage that was built between 1910 and 1912 for William & Margaret Millward. It was built in the centre of two sections at 24&26 Porter Crescent. It was donated to the society by Jack & Nancy Hedley who wanted to build a new house on the land site. It moved again in 2003 to the River Reserve when the museum was re-sited and re-established. Refurbishments and re-roofing allowed for the house to be opened in February 2006.
Helensville Courthouse was built in 1864 from timber of McLeod's mill on land that was donated by Ngāti Whātua chief Te Otene Kikokiko. The Courthouse was the first built in New Zealand specifically as a Native Land Court. The courtroom was last used in 1979. The front has a room set up as a Post Office that informs of the district’s telegraphic communications.
The Post Office at the museum shows the advances made to primitive telephone equipment in postal services from 1863 when John McLeod served as the first Te Awaroa’s (Helensville’s) Postmaster.
The Hec Nichols Memorial Barn displays of old farming, fishing and timber implements representing the main industries of the town. Hec was the first president and a patron of the Helensville and Districts Historical Society
There is little historic information about Waitoki School Room, but the site explains that "We are working to take you on a journey back in time as we unveil the treasured tales from those who graced the Waitoki Schoolroom, and other schoolrooms in our district. Relive touching moments and important events that have woven the fabric of our vibrant community. Let’s come together in honoring the enduring spirit of education and the bonds of friendship in Helensville." (Waitoki Schoolroom | Te Awaroa Museum, 2024)
The Roy Monk Building is the front entrance to the museum and is where visitors pay their entry fee and pick up a tour guide. There are a lot of archives at the museum such as:
Photographs
Family histories
Diaries
Local organisations’ histories
Books containing local history
Oral histories
Newspaper collections
Records of museum presentions

Kaukapakapa Library
It was originally constructed in 1911, but its origins go as far back as 1865. The library has been relocated several times over its lifetime, but has always remained close to the Kaukapakapa School. The Kaukapakapa Public Library was founded by Morris Henley, an early European settler who arrived in the area in 1862 . Morris Henley played a prominent role in the early stages of the development of the township. Although not currently opening as a library, the building is still an important landmark in the community next to the Kaukapakapa Hall.

Kaukapakapa Memorial Hall
The Kaukapakapa War Memorial Hall, established in 1890 is a historically significant building to this region. A new war memorial was unveiled on Anzac Day in 2013 outside of the Memorial Hall. It contains four plaques that name the 88 Kaukapakapa residents that fought in World War II.

Helensville Post Office
The Post Office was completed in 1911. The office included a three bedroom residence upstairs for the post master and his family. This was common at the time for post masters and bank managers in rural areas. The post office floor had a large mail sorting room, telephone exchange, strong room, public space and post master’s room. It provided mail and telegraph services, a Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, a telephone exchange and later bank facilities. The building remains much as it was, other than the reshaping of the parapet and flagstaff in the 1960’s.
The building ceased to be a post office in 1995 and is currently used as a health centre and private residence. Its grand and solid appearance and use of Classical motifs were befitting of a government building of the time.

All Saints Church Kaukapakapa
Built in 1881, this Anglican/Methodist church is part of a local shared ministry with St Matthews in Helensville. They provide Christian worship and pastoral care and pastoral counselling, christening, wedding, and funeral services. There are 2 Commonwealth burials of the 1914-1918 war and 1 of the 1939-1945 war.
They also have an Opportunity shop in the Church Hall. It sells second-hand clothes and shoes, children's toys, books, CDs, DVDs, bric-a-brac, and household items.
This church only has one mass on the 1st Sunday of each month, except January, the service time is at 10.00 am.

SDL Photos Week 3

(Photos 1-7 & 17-26) This week I knew I wanted to take some head-shots of my brother so I pulled out the ring-light and drew my dark grey curtains to attempt to get some good contrasting light, it was okay, but I enlisted the help of my Dad to hold a dark towel on the right side of Jack's face to help diffuse whatever reflecting light was happening on Jack's face. I edited these photos a little by neutralising some colours and slightly increasing the contrast as the background was quite grainy, so I wanted to darken it up.
(Photos 8-16) I experimented with the ring-light still but hand my Dad hold up 2 CDs in front of it to create this 'slit' of light. I think they came out cool, but I think they could be better. I edited these slightly by deepening the shadows only because the grain was insane!
(Photos 27-48) I have 2 beam lights that I can change colours, so I experimented with the different colours and what looked good with Jack's guitar as a prop. I wanted a 'on-stage' feel, so I chose not to add any extra light that would have illuminated any other part of the shot, so some of Jack's head is in darkness and half the guitar also isn't visible. I kind of wish I had a third light, but oh well. Again, these were edited to deepen the shadows a bit because of the grain! I channeled Rachel Stewart's style by also raising the luminence of the shadow colour - I think I will be using one of these photos for my assignment :)

Week 1 SDL:
Begin collecting visual examples of other creatives

As I began to research some New Zealand brands and products I like the design of, it gave me more insight into New Zealand designers and the people/studios behind the work. I also found examples of some overseas designers that I already follow on social media and know of such as Jerry-Lee Bosmans and Jack Forest. I came across Paula Scher as her work has been mentioned in my studio class and I really like her way of working with type and colour. Finding these visual examples opened me up to my love of brand identity creation and how this is a field I am interested in for my future.
