bts as my favorite jellyfish 🫧
. . • ☆ . ° .• °:. *₊ ° . ☆.
+ cool jellyfish facts
(another list no one asked for. shark list can be found here)
☆ jin: moon jellyfish
Tumblr media
probably don’t need an explanation for this one, simply for the fact jin in the moon and pretty like jellyfish
moon jellyfish can survive in both warm and cool waters!! they’re very social and travels in groups, also known as ‘smacks’ (that’s so silly). some members of the moon jellyfish species live without brains, ears, hearts, blood, eyes and pretty much anything we’re used to having as humans: they have 3 main elements to their existence, they’re 95% water, a mouth and a digestive system. they have their own version of a nervous system though, and without any lungs they breathe through their membrane
☆ taehyung: upside-down jellyfish
Tumblr media
upside-down jellyfish are hella unique, taehyung is hella unique. basically a perfect match if you ask me
the different colors seem in upside-down jellyfish comes from their intake of algae. aquarists can tell captive jellyfish from wild upside-down jellyfish, the wild jellyfish have more of a muddy brown color where as the ones in the aquarium are usually a blue, black, white, green or purple!!! they’re rarely found alone, and flips upside-down alongside others of its kind. their little oral arms point up to the sun, looking like a little flower!!! :D
☆ yoongi: cannonball jellyfish
Tumblr media
cannonball jellyfish are cute and yoongi is just a cutie kinda guy. i don’t make the rules
they’re carnivorous, eating fish eggs, red drum fish larvae and planktonic larvae of mollusks and snails. they use their little oral arms to move!! when the jellyfish is disturbed, they dive deeper into the water and release toxin-containing mucus! they can sense light gravity and touch. though communication between them isn’t understood really well, sometimes the jellyfish will form larger groups :D they can reproduce both sexually and asexually: they sexually reproduce in the medusa state (what we all commonly know as jellyfish) where they lay eggs that develop into planulae (basically swimming jellyfish larvae)
☆ jungkook: mushroom jellyfish
Tumblr media
i kinda love the the little mushroom mullet jungkook used to have hence he is the mushroom jellyfish
their common name refers to their shape of them in the medusa stage: mushroom cap!!!!! they’re often confused with the canonball jellyfish as they both lack oral arms. the mushroom jellyfish is much flatter, softer and larger as it can grow up to 51cm. mushroom jellyfish survive off plankton parts which are pushed out of their umbrella by the water and caught between their sort of finger like appendages!! they don’t really pose as a stinging threat to humans because of their lack of tentacles. however their stinging cells reside within their little bell :D
☆ hobi: lion’s mane jellyfish
Tumblr media
lion’s mane jellyfish look cool as hell, and hobi is probably one of the coolest people i can think of 🤨
lion’s mama jellyfish use their stinging tentacles to capture and eat fish, zooplankton, sea creatures and other smaller jellyfish. kingfish will hide within the stinging strands and feed on the leftover jellies until they’re big enough to venture out into the ocean. lion’s mane jellyfish can grow up to 120 feet. they don’t actually have a very long lifespan, only living for around a year :( they can have up to 1200 tentacles. they also have neurons, a ring of nerves within their hoods. without an actual brain and eyes they rely on these nerve cells to perceive and respond to threats. they poop out of where they eat, and eat out of where they poop :D
☆ namjoon: portuguese man-of war
Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay so for this one, i watched a long ass video on jellyfish one time and the way they described the portuguese man of war was like kinda super cool and the big boy jellyfish. so to go hand in hand with my choice of shark for namjoon, this one felt fitting
kinda a cheat one because they’re not really jellyfish even if they look very alike. however are featured in jellyfish videos and lists alike so they count on this list too. they’re actually siphonophores, which is essentially a cluster of organisms called polyps that depend on each other for survival!! despite being a slightly scary creature they themselves have predators, (which are super smart). the violet sea slug uses a bubble raft to float close to the surface of the water. they have dark purple undersides which help them camouflage in the darker waters. sea slugs also eat the man-of-war, using a similar strategy, however!! they can also repurpose the stinging cells of their meal for their own self defense!!! the float on the portuguese man-of-war is partially filled with carbon monoxide. and was named after its resemblance to ships :D they also kinda just drift, riding the current with no means of propulsion
☆ jimin: flower hat jellyfish
Tumblr media Tumblr media
flower hat jellyfish are pretty, and so is jimin. need i say more
(again they’re technically not jellyfish despite the name, they’re classified as hydrozoa). flower hat jellyfish usually live close to the sea floor with kelp and sea grass. they’re native to small areas of the western pacific ocean with smaller groups individually scattered elsewhere. they prefers moderate moderate depths and warmer temperatures :D they mainly feed on varieties of small fish, where most will occasionally consume small marine invertebrates which they’ll scoop from the ocean floor!! they’re actually quite powerful predators who don’t have many predators of their own however, they have been known to consume one another :(
okay that’s all thank you for reading !!!!

sea fact 2- goblin shark
The goblin shark is found in the 4000 range of the ocean. They are adapt for the lack of oxygen by having more gills, an adaptation able to be used for most sharks, the deeper found, more gills. This is used to help obsorb oxygen from the water easier.
Like most they diet on fish and cephalapods. Possibly crabs if they could. To eat they have an adapted jaw, acting a bit like a elastically plasic, that comes out of the inside of their mouth to reach their food. The term for it slips me currently tho.
They are also bottem dwellers

Ight so pick an ocean animal and I'll gladly research it (if I don't already know stuff about it) and info dump about it!
(It's been awhile since I've infodumped about the ocean so I don't even know where to begin like, whales? Beautiful, majestic, and in some cases vicious. Dolphins? Basically humans in the ocean. Octopi? Freaking geniuses. Sharks? Freaky bois I love them. So many things to geek out about in the big blue sea! Like, did you know fish could be trans? It happens quite often actually.)
:00 I love whales! Crazy awesome giants of the blue! If I remember right, sperm whales can make sounds loud enough that a bubble of air can form in your head and make it explode (yikes.)
"Humans in the ocean" ... Well you're not wrong.
Octopi. Smart babeys. I think I remember hearing that they'll swing jellyfish tentacles as a defense
Sharks are so cool but I honestly don't know much about them, which is a crime. They're so cool <33
I do know that fishes such as clownfish can be trans but I didn't know that others could be!!
(I honestly would love to know more about jellyfish if that's ok :) )

Bisan is calling for another global strike!
I saw some posts just outlining Jan 21st, and wanted to clarify that Bisan has called for a full seven days of action.
What a global strike would look like is:
calling in sick to work
purchasing bare essentials ahead of the week so you can observe the general boycott of goods / buying as little as you genuinely can
putting in a concerted effort to elevate Palestinian voices and make it clear that this strike is in support of a permanent ceasefire!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those who will have to purchase necessary goods during this time, please observe the brands that the BDS movement is asking us to boycott!
Tumblr media
♢♢♢
Right now is also a good time to mention some better uses for your money during this week.
Available e-sims in Gaza are running low!!
Mirna El Helbawi and her team are working round the clock to continue to connect Palestinians as Israel does its best to cut them off from the rest of the world.
You can learn how to purchase and send e-sims here, and below you’ll find a list of what is currently needed (the areas in brackets indicate what region you should select to buy e-sims in).
Tumblr media

CareforGaza is an organisation that does verifiably good work, distributing supplies directly to Palestinian families.
They have a Gofundme set up at the moment, but because of Gofundme’s poor track record regarding refusing to transfer funds to Palestinians, I’d recommend continuing to donate directly to their PayPal here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Good luck to all of you. Don't turn away from Palestine!

earth fact time. this is NOT A DRILL! two great white sharks have become best friends!! their names are simon and jekyll and they've travelled together for over 4,000 miles. this is a huge discovery, because great white sharks are usually solitary creatures!
an important note is that these sharks aren't swimming side by side, and are usually a couple kilometres off from each other - but their trackers kept pinging in the same part of the ocean at the same time. scientists think they might be brothers, or following a previously unknown migratory path.

KIM KITSURAGI - “Is that. My kineema.”
COMPOSURE [Medium: Success] - Something in him is about to break, *big time*.
EMPATHY - And it’s not going to be pretty, do something!
- DRAMA [Formidable] - Everything is fine!
- “Sure is.”
DRAMA [Formidable: Failure] - Surely he’s aware that he’s not the *only* person in the world who owns a Kineema?
YOU - “Is it really *yours*? I mean, plenty of people have their own Kineemas, right? Like working men, government offices, uh, firefighters I guess, maybe even animal control people? Exactly! A million different people who could’ve driven it into the uh…”
DRAMA - Pause, my liege! Ixnay on the Ineemakay!
YOU - “It could even be our *mysterious* joyrider!”
KIM KITSURAGI - Your frenzied babbling falls deaf to the lieutenant's ears. Instead, he approaches the broken vehicle, sunken in the ice. He moves with a caution and gentleness you haven’t seen him display before.
INLAND EMPIRE - It must be cold and lonely down there, in the icy water. Maybe he could sense its sorrow, calling to him…
PERCEPTION (SIGHT) [Easy: Success] - His hands, which are always stiffly placed behind his back, are trembling.
ENDURANCE - This is the shuffle of a tired, tired man.
HALF LIGHT - He’s going to do something drastic because of you. Oh god, terrible! You’re a terrible liar! You can’t look at this, you just can’t!
VOLITION [Formidable: Success] - It's not *you* who drove his kineema into the sea. You have plenty of faults, but this one is decidedly not yours.
KIM KITSURAGI - He kneels down with his head bowed, casting his face in shadow. He plants a hand on the ice to stabilize himself, squinting to get a better view of the motor carriage. “Detective, it says ‘57’ on it.”
YOU - Sweat drips down your brow, and you feel a terrible headache coming. “Maybe our joyrider has an affinity for that number?”
LOGIC - He's not stupid, he knows that it's not that.
KIM KITSURAGI - “57.”
YOU - “What about 57?”, you brace yourself.
KIM KITSURAGI - “Precinct 57.”
YOU - You wince. “Kim, look-”
KIM KITSURAGI - “When I woke up in the Whirling-in-Rags with no memory of what happened during the days before, I've taken note that something of mine has gone missing.” He grits his teeth. "A very. Important. Something."
He runs his hands over his face, messing his already unkempt hair in the process. Regret creeps up on his features. “God. Fuck. They’re going to fire me over this, they’re not going to hear me out.”
EMPATHY - Desperation settles in the lieutenant's tone. Sadly, you find yourself in agreement, even if you don’t want it to be the truth.
YOU - “People are more valuable than machines, Kim.”
KIM KITSURAGI - “Not people like me.” He rasps.
YOU - “…”
KIM KITSURAGI - Before you can say anything more, you fail to notice the lieutenant carefully walking onto the edge of the ice. He looks over the frigid water, a dizzying blue that mirrors and distorts his exhausted face back to him.
YOU - “Kim?”
KIM KITSURAGI - Seconds pass as he looks to be contemplating something. Out of nowhere, he casually takes another step where the ice ends and the sea begins. It happens all too quick for the lieutenant to even voice a call for help— if he even wanted to — his body plunging into the cold water before your eyes.
YOU - “KIM!!!!”
uhhh bonus stuff? sorry i have swap au brainworms pfttt

basking sharks are the second largest fish in the ocean, growing to a maximum length of 45 feet (15.2 m)1 and weight of 10,000 pounds (4.5 metric tons).
basking sharks have been observed leaping out of the water, which may be a way of getting rid of parasites.
basking sharks can open their mouth up to a metre wide.
basking sharks can be eaten by another big shark or a hungry pod of 0rca (also known as killer whales).

super cool sea fact because i’m watching a video on cnidarians ‼️
moon jellyfish when they reproduce and their larva sink down to the sea bed, basically they undergo a process called strobilation and they form into tiny little medusas before they mature. but the super cool thing is some species are able to like go back in their life cycle, essentially regenerating themselves so they’re technically living forever because they can do this continuously which is super freaking cool 🫡

sea fact 4- manta ray :D
he mantaray can get upto 7m wide. manta rays have an electrosensory system consisting of hundreds of electroreceptive organs, referred to as the ampullae of Lorenzini, which help them sense other organisms in their environment, this is used to sense food and danger. they eat shrimp, plankton and fish eggs. a few have been recorded to have eaten small fish too. i dont know much about mantarays but they are hella cool to look at. Here's one next to a shark (  if anyone can tell me the species of shark its next to that would be amazing!!!!)

can you do one about vampire squids ? 🦑
Tumblr media
Vampyroteuthis infernalis or Vampire Squid
It's (very dramatic) scientific name means "vampire squid from hell". However, the vampire squid is not actually a squid! It's actually the only animal in the Vampyroteuthidae family! It's separated into its own family because it can't change color or produce ink. Instead, it turns itself "inside out" (as shown above) to deter predators.
Tumblr media
Proportionally, vampire squids also have the largest eyes compared to their body size! They eat mostly zooplankton, marine snow, and other organisms waste. They grow to be about the size of a football and live to be around 8 years old.
Tumblr media
There's even evidence that vampire squids have been around since the Jurassic period- almost 200 million years ago!
