8 years have passed since Samurai Jack got back to the past...
so what's Genndy Tartakovsky been up to during that 8th year? Not to mention The Cartoon Network of course...
Jellystone!'s Season 4 opener "Cartoon Network vs. Jellystone! Crisis on Infinite Mirths", yet another CN crossover episode, was promoted at SDCC 2024 and premiered on HBO Max; the special will premiere on linear television at 10:30 AM Sunday, May 25th, 2025... only on Cartoon Network!
New Line Cinema has Sony Pictures Animation given back the rights for the 2D raunchy adult animated comedy Fixed as another cost-cutting move on Warner Bros. Discovery's part. It was likely to air on [as] with co-production by Cartoon Network Studios, but now it will stream on Netflix in August 2025, and pictures of the film are revealed.
Dexter's Laboratory: The Complete Series was released on DVD in stores featuring Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip, which was originally set for its own DVD release but decades later became part of the set.
Genndy Tartakovsky revealed some artwork and a part of the script for Sym-Bionic Titan Season 2's opener (technically Season 3 as CN promoted 2 seasons that make Season 1 up) on his Instagram account.
I got 2 Cartoon Network t-shirts that were not totally official CN merch but branded by Port & Company Ring Spun Fan Favorites.
AWorkersignited got #RIPCartoonNetwork trending although there wasn't any official news otherwise of CN in danger of shutting down. Cartoon Network also trended over "reheated leftovers" for Generation Alpha with more Regular Show content to come.
Primal Screen began to wrap production on their final works up and reincarnated as Space Monster Studio.
Toonami Rewind lasted from May 31st, 2024 to December 27, 2024 due to licensing fees for rerunning the 3 anime that they aired (Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z Kai, and Naruto). ACME Night hasn't been active since December 29, 2024, and the Cartoonito branding may end in the US by May 26, 2025.
Samurai Jack aired only 8 episodes of Season 1 on Checkered Past before it was pulled off; it's unknown if it'll return. What a Cartoon! including poor quality butchered prints sourced from The Cartoon Cartoons Show prints also started to occasionally air on the block as well as compilation episodes of Cartoon Planet (1997 version).
Invincible Fight Girl ended up airing on Toonami while Iyanu went to CN; the latter is the most successful Cartoon Network original (though entirely third-party and not even co-produced by the network at all) this year. Duck Dodgers (the series) as well as brief airings of Steven Universe and The Powerpuff Girls reran on CN on weekends. Totally Spies! Season 7 also aired on CN but with new actresses from Distribimage NYC instead of Jennifer Hale and friends due to issues regarding SAG-AFTRA union rates. The Venture Bros. reran from the pilot onward on [as] from August 11, 2024 to May 4, 2025 in celebration of that show's 20th anniversary.
Warner Bros. Discovery may spin some companies off but I'm not sure if Discovery is going to decide to split from WB yet or not.
Genndy Tartakovsky planned to attend a SCAD event but couldn't due to a storm.
Spumco/Ren & Stimpy veteran Jim Smith died as reported on May 2nd, 2025 (6 years after Chris Reccardi - also a Spumco/R&S and Samurai Jack veteran - died). The manliest artist in the world contributed storyboards and prop design to some episodes of Samurai Jack but mostly did character design for Season 2.
Lorenzo Estrada made some fake Uncle Grandpa "Powerhouse-era" Cartoon Network bumpers.
Some Cartoon Cartoons revival shorts are cancelled by WBDiscovery, and, after 4 years since new Gumball content, The Amazing World of Gumball (now titled The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball) will stream exclusively on Hulu instead of airing on TV.
Craig McCracken, Mike Collins, Ricardo Delgado and Andy Bialk have their Twitter/X accounts deactivated probably due to political discourse.
I can't recall much else but I'll modify this post when I've more mental energy to focus.
First year passing
Second year passing
Third year passing
Fourth year passing
Fifth year passing (incomplete)
Sixth year passing (incomplete)
Seventh year passing (incomplete)

Personal review of
The Day the Earth Blew Up
A Looney Tunes movie
Overall: An absolute gem
It’s Looney Tunes - the story is nothing revolutionary (except it’s the first ever original plot for a fully animated Looney Tunes film), but oh golly the animation! Fluid, vibrant, and unique 1940’s animation supported by early 2000’s techniques.
Top highlights:
Animation
Comedy
Homage/ References
What doesn’t happen
Animation
Tumblr media
Everything you heard about the animation is true. Fantastic and lively hand drawn animation pays respect to 1940’s reign of cartoons. Particularly focused on the Looney Tunes era of Phil Monroe and Bob Clampett.
It’s crazy to think, until now, the generations after Millennials can experience a film like THIS in theaters. No over-sanitization of Disney, and realism not being the focus.
It’s honest 2D animation flexing how boundless the medium can go off - and you can tell when the animators were given full control.
However, do keep in mind technology has advanced since WWII. Do not go into this movie expecting a “raw and pure-bred” relapse of animation, and then be disappointed when “newer” techniques taint the nostalgic image. These are far from dominating the art direction, but are noticeable to a time-traveller.
I do mean “newer” as these techniques are still dated. The highlight being facial expressions taken from Chuck Jones’ era, which I enjoyed greatly.
Tumblr media
Another “newer” method was using 3D models for complex moving objects (eg. an entire rotating spaceship). Although, I feel this was a callback to the tv show “Duck Dodgers” (2003) which used the same technique for the exact same purpose. Also to boot, a handful of “panic/pain” expressions were taken from this show as well.
Comedy
The humor used is a salad bowl of multi-generational jokes, with the cornerstones being visual gags expected in the cartoon media. These are used sparingly and don’t overextend into “Ren & Stimpy” level absurdity.
Tumblr media
There’s also good satire on evolving society and minimum wage job experience. There’s another setup where the audience knows the truth and played for the suffering of a character. Another fine note was the jokes hitting without need of racism, minority targeting, or generational discourse.
Actually, the funniest hit for me was an animator joke that happens in the first few scenes (if you saw the movie, you know EXACTLY the scene I am referring).
References
Tumblr media
This film is filled with references, but many will go right over your head for how well they fuse to the story. And that is good!
For once a film pays nods to its forefathers without making it terribly obvious. I’ve seen this movie twice with two different groups: my friend group and my grandma. We all caught different homages paying respect to the alien invasion/ B-rate movies, pop culture, and older Looney Tune shorts.
I will only list the non-Looney Tunes references.
Ones that I caught: “The Day the Earth Stood Still”(1951), “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”(1978), The Simpson: Season 5(1993)
What others caught: “Jurassic Park”(1993), “The Thing”(1982), Scooby Doo (we think)
Other references I heard are incorporated but I didn’t notice or know them: “The Blob”(1958), “Night of the Creeps”(1986), “Armageddon”(1998).
It would not surprise me if there was a “Shaun of the Dead” or “Twilight Zone” nod somewhere too.
What Does Not Happen
And What Does Happen
Spoiler-free Q&A notes
Tumblr media
Do other Looney Tunes characters make an appearance?
No. The film only has Daffy, Porky, and Petunia.
Flashing or strobing lights?
2 scenes with flickering lights that lasts for about a second. These scenes are preceded by slower flickering for a warning.
1 scene for an explosion that concludes the scene above. Its lasts less than a second
1 scene of red and yellow filling the screen for 4 seconds. Its slow and the contrast is not very harsh
Is the film purely comedy/ family-friendly?
Majority of it is comedy. There are horror elements but no gore.
Any memes /cash grab maneuvers?
I heard one scene broke the immersion for some people. It involves a smartphone. The film takes place in modern-day and this is blatant. But Daffy and Porky never update the house, so many assumed it was the 1950s.
There also a car door visual gag that might be referencing the meme
Any gross humor / fart jokes?
Maybe two? No farts happen, but the sound effects tend to sound like it (eg. A balloon losing air). There’s also an egging scene and then thats it
That concludes the review. Please see this movie for the animation and
because the Warner Bros. Company gets absolutely nothing from these ticket sales.

Nickelodeon owes the "fans" an apology...
I'm only saying this because apparently it's the 45th anniversary and Nickelodeon has been hiding some sneaky crap that they still haven't addressed, even after the documentary has come out. Dirty Dan gave a fake apology that sounded scripted, but that's not what we want. We want Nickelodeon, a well known CHILDREN'S network, to apologize for the most perverted, fetishy shows in existence, and also putting child actors at risk for over 20 years! Dirty Dan Schneider was working for that network since the 90s and he came out with a fake apology right after the documentary came out. We just want Dan Schneider to be IN PRISON, with John Kricfalusi, Chris Savino, James Charles, and Colleen Ballinger.
Nickelodeon needs to apologize by having a restriction against hiring children for live action shows, and also make a public announcement and apologize to all the kids who were involved in the shows, and also the fans. Apologize for putting the most fetishy, disgusting content in shows for a children's network, and also get rid of everything that isn't suitable. Not just the Dirty Dan shows, but also some of the cartoons (Like Ren & Stimpy and Loud House) should be banned as well. It's sickening that Nickelodeon even allowed that stuff in the first place. I think the Dan Schneider stuff is the worst, though. Also, inform people that you will no longer hire minors for live action shows, if you make any at all. I think Nickelodeon should have a restriction against being allowed to make live action shows after all they've done. Last of all, there are other changes that need to be made! Now that the perverted stuff is gone, it's time to bring back the shows that were more suitable for kids.
Early SpongeBob episodes were amazing, but there's others I hope Nickelodoen should bring back too;
CatDog (even though it had some subtle dirty jokes, and some episodes got a bit too heavy, it had some good messages. It was also ahead of its time)
Doug (It was made by Jim Jinkins, same guy who worked on Pinky Dinky Do so of course it's family friendly)
Rugrats (Some things didn't age well, but at least it was better than Dirty Dan's stuff)
Robot & Monster (It was weird at times but mostly family friendly)
Harvey Beaks (This show was literally so cute and the episode I watched had a decent mesage)
The Wild Thornberries (Extremely ahead of its time, I heard form someone on YouTube that they did a better job teaching about other cultures than Disney did).
Hey Arnold (I think some episodes get a bit too heavy, and the show can sometimes be straight up sad, but it's relatable and teaches serious issues)
Invader Zim (I know this one was dark and not the best for kids, but at least it's entertaining and not fetishy)
SpongeBob Squarepants, seasons 1 and 2 (it was way more family friendly back then)
So yeah, Nickelodeon! That's only 8 shows listed! You should be able to play them if you remove the Loud house, Ren & Stimpy, and EVERYTHING that has Dan Schneider's name credited. And like I said, NO MORE LIVE ACTION SHOWS PLEASE!

Newer seasons of Spongebob feels a lot like Ren and Stimpy. Noticing that makes me physically uncomfortable. I finish watching an episode and feel... I don't know... scared? Annoyed? Idk
Weird facial expressions that aren't even funny, jokes that are either dumb or gross, and the bright colors make my eyes burn. What happened to my favorite show of all time..? I know people have said the same thing a million times, but I hate it and it makes me sad. I always watch the earlier seasons because they're just perfect. Not just for nostalgia, but because they're written well(mainly seasons 1-3. 4 and 9 are good too) and the characters have more depth.
If anyone doesn't notice, I hate Ren and Stimpy. I have no idea why I even liked it as a kid... It's gross and disturbing and I have no idea how it even aired on Nickelodeon.

I've been watching Rocko's Modern Life and it is so fucking funny!! 😂 A lot of the humor is very similar to SpongeBob (that is, the early seasons 1-4) and that's probably due to Stephen Hillenburg and Tom Kenny both working on it! I just love the wry look at adulthood like working the 9-5 job, paying bills, doing laundry and various menial tasks but with humor behind it. I'm sure there's an actual term for it probably over on TV Tropes. But I digress... if you've never seen it, definitely check it out! It also shares a lot of comedy styling like that of Ren & Stimpy as well! 😊

Most of my frame if reference from the show comes from seasons 1 through 5 ish.
I'm not one of those people whos like "wah wah the show dropped off after the movie, anything after is spitting on Stephen's grave" types, no, it's just around that time I was losing interest in cartoons overall and stopped watching.
Teenagerdom and all that
I've watched episodes here and there, two of my favorites are Ma and Pas Big Hurrah, and Mind the Gap, but for the most part have like, so many seasons to binge
Also I've watched those episodes those people keep bitching about with the gross scenes, all it made me think was "how tf did these people survive ren and Stimpy, that was nothing." Weaklings
Anyways.

the john k comparisons to vivziepop are so painfully ironic when you consider one of vivz friends, sabersparks, just made an entire video essay talking about ren n stimpys rise and fall. he even talks about how ren n stimpy didnt have ref sheets for lip syncing, just like helluva doesn't. OH, and how ren n stimpy was usually late to deadlines.
kinda ironic when you consider it took viv a year to release the queen bee episode, AND hazbin is being delayed. i bet when hazbin finally releases and gets cancelled after 1 season, sabersparks is gonna sway public opinion by saying "they weren't even given a fair chance :(" while ignoring all the actual flaws of the show lmao
History repeats itself, and oh god, how it pains me that Saberspark is one of Vivzie's friends and defenders. I don't know if they're actual friends or if he just isn't aware of some of the shit she's pulled but it still sucks.

Hi Lo! Hope you're doing well!! I had a couple of numbers for the ask game: 1, 8, and 24?
Hii!
1. What cartoons did you like growing up?
I was more or less babysat by/raised by TV so...I liked a lot of them lol. The ones that stand out most are probably:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Animaniacs
Tiny Toon Adventures
All the 90's Nickelodeon shows (Doug, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, etc)
8. What books did you like growing up?
Answered here, but I forgot Goosebumps! And as a pre-teen, I read a lot of Stephen King (I think my mom forgot how much weird shit outside of just the supernatural stuff was in a lot of them when she recommended them to me lol)
24. A piece of media you wish people knew more about?
That's tough because I lot of the less mainstream stuff I'd recommend to irl people tends to be well-know on tumblr lol. I think I'd definitely say the other works of Shinchiro Watanabe besides Cowboy Bebop--Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy specifically.
I haven't watched Champloo in years but it's a very cool moment in time of a story, with a really good hip-hop soundtrack that doesn't feel out of place. Space Dandy was unexpected--the first season sort of convinces you it's just a silly-goofy-weird romp (which it is!) but then it gets...well, it's much bigger than what it seems to be.

ALLLLRIGHT YOU iiiidiots!
Time for the next thingy
Today's episode isssss:
Tumblr media
SPACE
MADNESS!
Yeah, so uhh that one
I love this episode, it's all about Ren going insane while Stimpy tries to calm him down, resulting in both of them being erased from history itself, don't ask how those two things are related, because I don't really want to ruin the surprised for those who haven't watched it yet
I think this episode perfectly illustrates the personalities of both Ren and Stimpy, far more than simple description of "Ren angry" or "Stimpy stupid" this episode it's really unsettling on the ending too, idk man, I always loved the space-themed episodes, and it's such a shame they stopped doing them for literally half the series when season 1 finished (spoilers I guess?) And then this kind of episode came back again...only once
Whatever the case is, I love this episode with my soul, it's funny, it's slightly disturbing, it's well animated and expressive, it's everything I love in a R&S episode, this one is a solid 10/10 and I recommend it to anyone wanting to start watching the series (or just, idk, anyone who's thinking of doing a rewatch, do it, it's a funny)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I, kind of, apologize for the small amount of screenshots posted here, or, season 1 as a whole, I took these ones WAAAY WAY back, later I began taking more photos so don't worry for..that..i suppose idk)

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Title: The New Adventures of Beany and Cecil
Seasons: 1
Episodes: 5
Run Time: 30 Minutes
Original Air Date: September 10 - October 8, 1988
Synopsis:
An American animated series. Produced by DIC Animation City, It is a revival of Bob Clampett's Beany and Cecil.
My Rating: N/A
My Reasoning: I honestly don't remember this. It's also hard to find much information about it. I did find that it was basically canceled because of the controversial material. The creator later worked on Ren and Stimpy if that tells you anything haha. So if you like that then you would like this. If you can find it.

The Adventures of Faith the Eevee - Episode 2
Season 1, Episode 2: The Big Move-In!
September 14th dawned bright and clear in Greenville, South Carolina. The sun streamed through the window of Faith’s new apartment bedroom at Edgemont Apartments, casting a warm glow on the freshly unpacked boxes and the cheerful clutter of a new home.
Faith, a vibrant spirit with a passion for adventures, stood in her bedroom, hands on her hips, taking in her new surroundings. The room was filled with the buzz of excitement and the promise of new beginnings. Her F.L.A.R.E.S. team—comprised of dedicated friends and allies—was there to help her get settled. Maurice LaMarche and Rob Paulsen, guests who had become fast friends, were also present. Rob, as Pinky, and Maurice, as The Brain, added an extra touch of whimsy to the already lively scene.
“Well, this is our new home,” Faith declared, her voice filled with enthusiasm. “We’re going onward and upward, like the title of the first episode of Adult Party Cartoon, starring Ren and Stimpy... which Mom never lets me watch, by the way.”
Maurice, channeling The Brain’s deep, thoughtful tone, replied, “Indeed, Faith. It’s a new chapter, ripe with possibilities. We shall conquer the challenges of moving with strategic precision!”
Rob, in his Pinky voice, chimed in with his usual cheery demeanor, “Narf! And we’ll have loads of fun doing it, right, Faith? Like when we infiltrate the new apartment!”
Just then, Sharon, Faith’s mom, popped her head into the room. “Hi, Faith. Your brother Drew and I are heading upstairs to see Nani. You’ll be with F.L.A.R.E.S.”
Faith’s smile widened. “Thanks, Mom. I’m glad you only take one of us to Nani’s. I think that was a great decision.”
Sharon’s eyes softened with affection. “Thank you, Noodles. We’ll see you later. Remember to get unpacked and settled in.”
“I will,” Faith promised. “I’m also glad you let me keep my cat costume for Halloween — it’s next month! I’ve been waiting to wear it since November 1st last Fall.”
Sharon chuckled and nodded before heading out with Drew. The door closed behind them, and Faith turned her attention back to her new room. As she started unpacking her belongings, she heard a familiar voice from the hallway.
“Hi, Sara!” Faith greeted warmly as her friend Sara entered the room.
Sara beamed at Faith and took in the vibrant new setting. “Hey, Faith! This place is awesome. I can’t wait to see how it looks when you’re all done decorating!”
____________________________________________________________
As Faith was busy putting her things together, her attention was suddenly drawn by a sweet, familiar sound—a soft, adorable meow. She turned to find Maurice LaMarche holding a cat carrier.
“Faith, Pinky,” Maurice said with a smile, “this is my cat, Leonardo, or Leo for short. He’s a longhair.”
Faith’s eyes lit up with excitement. “So, he’s like a tabby? Ooh, I wanna pet the kitty!” She playfully mimicked Yakko Warner’s signature move, followed by a cheerful “Goodnight, everybody!”
Rob, in his Pinky voice, added, “Narf! We should definitely add another cat adult joke to Animaniacs. People love the adult jokes!”
Faith approached Leo, who was now lounging comfortably on her cat costume, stretching out in a way that made her chuckle. “Hey, Leo. I need that costume for October, so don’t stretch it out too much!”
Sara, watching the interaction with a smile, said, “I’m glad you still have the costume, Faith. It looks like you’re already getting settled in!”
Faith nodded, her excitement palpable. “Yeah, I’m really happy about it. Maurice, get this. When I was carving pumpkins last Halloween with Sara, mine rotted because of the lack of moisture. I’m planning to carve pumpkins again this time with a pumpkin that’s nice and moist!”
Sara laughed, “That’s a great idea! You’ll have the best pumpkins on the block.”
Faith continued, “Oh, and my mom is going to make my new bed this weekend. She’s really good with stuff like that. It’s going to be awesome!”
