Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
Though there is quite a bit of debate about the largest species of leech, the Amazon giant leech is certainly at the top of the running! At up to 45 cm (17.7 in) in length, this species is of particular important to scientists, as it was declared extinct in 1893 and only rediscovered in 1970. Several specimens were caught for captive breeding, and one (dubbed Grandma Moses) managed to produce over 750 offspring!

God I fucking hate Olaf the snowman so fucking much holy shit. Holy shit, every frame he's in, every scene, every gif, every jpeg, he's got this painfully vacant, stupid as shit, fuckass look on his stupid lumpy face. Absolutely no part of his ugly as sin piece of shit character design is endearing. His stupid fucking legs? Who the hell makes a snowman with legs. His dumb flaily fucking twig arms? His shitty, lumpy bastard head? The three thousand percent unnecessary dumbass shitass fucking SNOW BUCK TOOTH that no snowman has EVER FUCKING HAD IN tHE HISTORY OF GOD'S GREEN FUCKING EARTH? God, I hate him. I hate him so much. So FUCKING much. Every time I see a stuffed toy Olaf or an Olaf gif or a shitty goddamn commercial, it ignites my primal rage response and I'm overcome by the need to punt this shitty little homunculus into the fucking sun. "Bhurr blur, I'm Olaf the fuckshit snow fucker, I like warm hugs". Fuck you. Fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you. You look like Tow Mater summoned a patronus. Your dumb fucking twig hair makes your whole shitty head look like a hairy skin tag. I hate your dumb fucking lumpy carrot nose and your stupid, empty googly eyes and your over-the-top goofy ass upbeat asshole personality. Any scene he's sad it invokes all the wrath and fury of a spoiled child having a meltdown over a chocolate bar in a w*lmart checkout line. And I know its irrational. That's the worst part. I know he's just a shitty fucking side character in a stupid fucking children's movie, I know it doesn't matter, I know I shouldn't care. But that's part of the problem. The part where no matter the might and fury of my hatred, the locus of my homicidal intent is alltogether inconsequential. I find myself laying awake in the dark in the early hours of the morning consumed by the spirit of Wrath itself, all the force and might of a flaming hurricane directed at a bottle of piss in a ditch by the highway. The absurdity of it all burns me to my core. What better things could this energy be directed towards? And yet my disdain for this stupid, useless, insubstantial failure of endearing character design utterly eclipses the intrigue of all other pursuits. I hate him. I hate him on a level of my mind reserved for the worst of the world's array of sinners, and I can't even begin to justify it. Shitstick the snow dick is, for all intents and purposes, the animated corpse of all of humanity's saccharine pretenses- every condescending, passive-aggressive statement of meaningless upper middle class suburban drama distilled into a single, hateable form. The fucking. Fuck. I have no words. There is no cuss or epithet in any language that can encapsulate the height of the emotions I am experiencing. God, I hate him so much. I hate him so, so fucking much. I want to light his ugly little dumpster body on fire. I want to graphically beat him to death with his own stupid fucking nose. I want to punch him to death. You know that weird feeling you get, when you see a picture of something so cute you find yourself overcome with the bizarre, inexplicable urge to squeeze it? It's EXACTLY like that, except instead of cuteness it's disgust. The wordless knowledge that his existence as a fictional work is evidence of all the failures of mankind. I find myself possessed by the will of a Holy Angel gone rogue with the belief that God has made a mistake, and I alone must correct it. This is the trial by which Samael himself fell from grace. This wild, meaningless rage. A thousand blades of shining steel cast with inhuman force in the direction of a plastic grocery bag floating on a breeze. What horrors must I have committed in a past life to be plagued by this torment now? I must Unmake this fictional snowman

I'm just now starting to get into homestuck (I'm just starting act 4) and.. I like your bugs.. I have a question about olive bloods
If Nepeta is a caterpillar and Meulin is based on a luna moth, are all olive bloods resemblant of moth species, or are they also resemblant of butterfly species?
Honestly, I’ve drawn a few fantrolls at this point. Having looked at the CANNON olive caste, none of them really feel fragile, pretty or precious enough to be butterflies, they all got a chunky down-to-earthness that I think suits moths more, especially with their earthy colors and troll’s nocturnal lifestyle. My species choices has a big thing to do with themes and vibes, so if the vibes suit a guy you got go for it B] Because a lot of bug species I like aren’t included in the original 12 designs I made, there’s room within a caste for more than one bug species. Think about it this way: All moths are green bloods, but not all green bloods are moths. Maybe there’s a grasshopper or junebug greenblood out there!
#Technically the wooly bear caterpillar isn’t even a caterpillar#all the best fuzzy caterpillars become moths which makes them worms. But my pun doesn’t work that way so fuck it!! It’s not super serious p#Enjoy act 5#that’s my favorite! I haven’t read homestuck entirely in like a decade#but I’ve been checking segments to refresh myself on character details#bugstuck#homestuck#buggy trolls#ask#nepeta leijon#meulin leijon

by complete accident I have discovered how to make WORM FONT. (font link)
predictably, this has halted productivity for the day. I'm writing with worms now. take it up with them
instructions: separate dots out onto a layer above the font. activate dot layer style 'outer glow'. set glow blend mode to 'Luminosity'. change Technique from 'Softer' to 'Precise'. adjust Spread and Size for desired worminess - mine is set to 0 Spread and 32 Size.
edit colors as you wish and congrats. you got vurms. 🪱
#art#digital art#photoshop#fonts#typography#WORM#this technique will also work for things that are not text#you just needs to have dots in a row with the above settings#and they'll add this cool segmented effect to whatever's underneath#video

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
When decorating for the holidays, why not ask the decorator worm to help? These worms are named both for their beautiful irridescent 'plumage' and the tunnels they construct benath the ocean floor, which are often lined with bits of algae, coral, and shells. These tubes can be up to .9 m (3 ft), and are used by the worms to hide from predators.

Unidentified life form.
Upon first seeing these 2021, I believed they were a species of flatworm. I was told on iNaturalist that there weren't any flatworms which matched description, and that the specimens had slight signs of segmentation (thus Annelida). As it currently stands, I have seen these creatures numerous times, but have yet to find any sort of identification.
Brief description: These are benthic creatures, residing in burrows I've mainly witnessed further up the shore in mangrove environments. They remain in their burrows until there is a few centimetres of water level, after which they leave (or a part of them leaves) the burrow to feed on sediment. They sift through the sediment, possibly collecting sediment on the top-facing surface of the body/appendage to take back into the burrow. I typically find these things covered in sediment, and they leave very distinct trails in the sand after feeding. I have only come across them in Bowen (the beach at the giant mango), though I find it doubtful that Bowen is their only location.

going down the Sloppy rabbit hole
This is Sloppy (full name Sloppy Worm), the baby sister of Slimey the worm from Sesame Street. Born to Eartha and Dusty Worm.
here's her pregnant mother. Worm Pregnancy.
the story is that oscar has to take her to the hospital to give birth since the dad is flying home from work and won't make it in time. all this time I'm assuming that there's just this tiny muppet worm on a normal human plane, but then its revealed that there's actually a whole worm plane
also, up until this point, all the worms are shown to be silent characters until now, there's a tiny worm announcement on the worm plane, and then suddenly the dad goes into this internal monologue/song about imagining the kind of child he's going to have, and he decides that if its a boy he's going to name it Jim.
Oscar can't make it to the hospital in time because his car won't start, and Eartha ends up giving worm-birth in his car, and the baby arrives with the tiniest, most comical little pop sound effect.
then they just casually say that they'll still need to go to worm hospital, just dropping on us the fact that not only is there a plane for worms, there's an entire worm hospital just for worms.
the dad then parachutes down from the plane to reunite with his family.
Finally, we learn that she's named Sloppy after Oscar's car
#actually please watch this on youtube please watch the whole dad segment bc its really funny#look up slimeys mom is having a baby on youtube#fuck i didn't mean to stay up until 2am again i just love this worm so much its the cutest puppet ever

bug blues got me DOWN im having crazy species dysphoria (?) for the past couple days... i wanna know people's tips for presenting more bug-like physically (as vague or as specific as possible, doesnt matter to me) and see if that will help me, but its not something im finding easily..... invertebrate therians lend me your aid
#therianthropy#therian#bug therian#original nonsense#personal#<- i dont really interact with a broader therian community usually so idk if im using the right.... idk language..#when looking at peoples therian postings i had to keep looking up definitions lol. so im not v familiar with the lingo.....#i look up peoples experiences as invertebrate therians and ppl point out ways that they are similar/connected to their theriotype#and im like shit am i doing therianthropy wrong LOL cuz im just like. im this thing and i hate that i dont look like it.#i say bug to be really generic bc IDK WHAT I AM i think broadly im connected to earthworms and centipedes...#but am i like those in my current state in any way? no i think they are simply epic.#and they are tugging something madly at my soul.#i have my coyote tail i wear and its so cool to me and i would love to have like... a clip on worm tail or centipede end segments..

okokok so this is definitely the most weirdly specific question ive ever asked but does anyone know if the symmetrical worm enemies in terraria (eater of worlds, destroyer, bone serpent, etc.) flip to stay upright in the same way the asymmetrical ones (wyvern, blood eel, and phantasm dragon) do and we just cant tell bc their designs are symmetrical
#amicus.txt#terraria#ive been brainstorming some texture pack ideas and this is very important info that i dont have time/energy/ability to test#like to try and explain it differently:#in terraria the wyvern enemy's textures will often get mirrored while youre fighting it#this is because the wyverns texture is drawn from a side-view perspective; so theres a correct “up” orientation for it#so when it flips its doing that to prevent itself from being upside-down#which would obviously look weird for it to be flying around like that#this same principle applies to the blood eel and phantasm dragon enemies and the stardust dragon minion#the wiki lists these enemies as having the same ai type (Worm AI) as terrarias worm enemies. such as the Eater of Worlds boss#Eater of Worlds is drawn from a top-down perspective and not a side-view perspective. it also happens that it is symmetrical#so its left half looks the exact same as its right half#which also means that with the way it is drawn it cant really be “upside-down” in the same way a wyvern could#so if the Eater of Worlds was flipped in the same way the wyvern is then we wouldnt be able to notice#BUT since they are both listed as having the Worm AI type which would presumably contain the directions to have it flip#that might mean that its still flipping to keep itself “upright” even though it doesnt change anything#to prove this you would have to make a custom texture pack where the Eater of Worlds' texture is asymmetrical#and then test it by fighting it in a world#so for example if you drew a big R on each texture of Eater of Worlds' segments (head body and tail)#if it doesnt flip like the wyvern does then itll just look like an R at all times just at different rotations#but if it DOES flip then it would look like a Я at some points in the fight
