finished lufia 2. i don't have as many thoughts as i expected but it was very very very good. and also reminded me of ff2 which is always fun. it's like what i imagine golden sun to be if it was good (i think). the plot definitely existed just to get to dungeon a to dungeon b but all of the dungeons were hella fun. the enemies are on the map too so that's always nice. music is good, ancient cave was fun and it was fun to grind and level up and whatnot. i loved the characters and when (spoilers i guess lol) dekar came back to fight everyone i cheered. DEKAR'S THE BEST. i also like guy and artea and maxim and selan. very fun.

idk what to play next but it probably won't be lufia 1 LOL!! if anyone has any good games from nes-ps1 era and/or is on a handheld console hmu im always looking for recs

Estpolis - A Psychic's Perspective (Lufia)

Let's start by saying Fortress of Doom never happened. In fact, it started out on another planet as a poorly received game. So, let's begin with the second game.

The common tongue was Portuguese. Guy spoke Spanish, in Bound Kingdom they spoke Arabic, in Portravia they spoke Esperanto. The elves spoke Danish.

The day sky was always pink or orange because of how small the sun was.

The equator went through Narvick and Gruberick. If you draw out the tectonic plates based on the underwater trenches and Premarl, you'll find the land was warped to fit the map and make the map playable.

If you haven't figured it out, Narvick's community were the guardians of the gods.

At the end, there is a door that is blocked off. This could have been a secret ending where Maxim fought Alekdias one on one. If you defeated Alekdias, his mask would break to reveal he was really Idura.

Guy has vivid prophetic dreams. He doesn't talk about them because he feels he won't be taken seriously.

Dekar invented the song "Blood", which My Chemical Romance completed for him.

If the game was made today, Guy's seasickness may be considered to show.

After Maxim and Selena got married and went off to save the world and they meet Dekar and Guy, Guy has fallen pregnant. (The gods can get pregnant no matter the gender) It's very well concealed by the hardware limitations.

Once Maxim died and Guy and Artea went home to wait for him, the world ended, and everybody was frozen in time.

Tia is with Dick Gumshoe!

Tia was actually pretty tough. Again, hardware limitations, but she took status effects a lot easier than the others.

Bats and vampires avoided Guy...

Jeros is pronounced "Heros".

Guy's axe is called Lucah Djinn.

My Experience

There was this weird time where everyone was encased in these cubicles. The first I met was Maxim. He said "I'm looking for Tia and Guy". For some reason I showed him my palm, and he promised to remember me. (My fate line is a priphea)

Guy was three months pregnant when I met him. After everyone got transferred into this massive hospital, Kurt Cobain met with Guy and they started talking. This moment was when I realised Guy was my brother (making Hilda my sister).

Selena and I helped Lin (think Fire Emblem) out.

Dekar slept on my couch.

Tia came to my house looking for Gumshoe and she knocked some Tupperware to the floor, and I got up her for it lol.

Guy sometimes comes up to me with music he heard out of nowhere. They're from the games. Today he showed me For the Saviour.

Took me 33 levels, but I found a Blue Chest!  Boom Turban, Baby!!  Not only can Artea wear it if I want Selan to have the Agility boost (as he’s faster than anything) but it’s a good item for her as well!  So I can swap who has that and who has the Aqua Helm based on need if I’m going in.

Now...one of the three weapons Artea can wield and we’ll be in the best shape to leave the cave behind and have my elf ready on arrival!

Actually... I knew immediately who the Top Three were, but it took a little longer to narrow down numbers four and five. BUT. Here they are!

5. The Hero/Maxim’s Descendant

Like many RPG heroes of this era, this poor kid was never given an official name (though it’s very common for people to name him either Max or Jeros). He was given a lot of personality - generous, perceptive, and generally the peacekeeper of the group (and he even specializes in healing magic - all a little unusual for your sword-swinging RPG hero). He’s surprisingly sweet and mild for a Hero of this stage in gaming... and look what a cute lil bean he is!

4. Selan

The Hero is always specifically identified as Maxim’s descendant and they share magic types and preferred weapon... but not enough attention is paid to him also being Selan’s. These two share a similar perceptive nature, too (though Selan does tend to be more assertive than The Hero). Selan’s fierce, no-nonsense personality and Magic Knight character slot always make me eager to get to her!

3. Artea

Artea was interesting playing a small role in the first game, so it’s a lot of fun to really get to know him in the second! As his younger self Arty comes across as a relatively young character trying to prove himself - he’s more brash and contentious than we usually see in Fantasy Elves, especially in the nineties, and it’s fun to watch! And as his older self his melancholic personality contrasts with the glimpse in the prologue to really show the effects of events on him. 

2. Jerin

Jerin’s a cute, fun character - and her joining the party is a fun sequence of events too. She’s a great, energetic foil to the other characters, and her efforts to please and prove herself as a full member of the party are really endearing.

1. Dekar

Because you gotta love a complete doofus with a patient, insightful personality. Dekar’s an interesting case; when characters point out he’s not the sharpest ax in the armory they’re absolutely not wrong, but he’s got a heavy dose of emotional intelligence to go with it that allows him to deal with Tia and Alex with surprising ease. (Plus his reasoning that it doesn’t matter if he falls into traps because he’s strong enough to get back out is spot on and makes for some of the funniest moments in the game.) I love Dekar.

Updated Frozen Starlight! http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/synapse I was planning a bunch of Lufia stuff but had to cut it short because I would have rushed it. It was actually supposed to be Alundra stuff. But it requires me breaking out my borked second controller for the debug code. XP Yeah yeah. I'll get to it. -.-;; I did end up doing some Odds & Ends for Lufia though. Plus three videos since I found a bunch of codes.

I happened to find a whole bunch of Lufia 2 codes by relnqshd.  Most of the codes are from this user. But there are some from others users. There are a lot of weird and fun codes to mess with. They were found here: http://users.skynet.be/fa945195/temp/L2_BoardArch/14133529.html When I saw that there were codes to customize the party I decided to see what would happen if you forced an empty party. As you can see from the video it causes a multitude of glitches and battles either end in a game over or a freeze. If you activate the code right before loading a file you will not be able to access the menu or shops. Doing so will bring you back to the Natsume screen. Battles will end in a game over. The game sees your empty party and assumed you are all dead I guess. If you activate the code during a game in progress you can use the menu and shops. But the party sprites are glitched. If you attempt to enter a battle you can run away. But you won't be able to fight. After choosing your commands the game will just hang. Having a capsule monster active does not prevent this or the empty party game over. A capsule monster won't act in an empty party. While your party sprites are still shown as normal in towns and Maxim appears as normal on the world map and in dungeons, the battle sees an empty party if you change all party values to FF (nobody).  And yes, you can use this code to play as a party of whoever you want. To avoid some issues, if you want empty slots make sure to make those slots at the end of the party list. To make changes permanent save at a church/save point. Just make sure you turn the code off to avoid glitches. If you check out the thread I linked you'll see tips on how to properly use these codes. https://youtu.be/m5pp9_CGejw Lufia 2 codes: Shop breaking, file deleting, no random battling code! I found this code on GameFAQs while looking for a no random battles code. This was a code that the creator, Ugetab, found by accident. It doesn't just turn off random battles. It screws with the shops. And I've discovered that it can also force the game back to the Natsume screen and possibly even delete your file. This code is cool. But be really careful with it. You can lose your progress. At least do it on a duplicate file. If you use L/R to scroll you may find some interesting items in the shop list. Some appear as blank spaces and I think that some items may be glitched. It's not shown here but I once saw a gauntlet occupying a blank space. And it bumped Maxim's defense up to 999. His stats were the same as what you see in the video. So that's impossible. I have no idea if glitched equipment does what it says or is even safe to use. So proceed with caution. No equip is a blank space item that doesn't cost anything and won't sell for anything. It won't show up in your inventory either. Although it will show up in the shop menu as sellable.  I don't know if it's the same "No equip" from the equip screen or not. It may be something that has to do with blank spaces that occur in the smaller shop lists. You just aren't meant to see or interact with it normally. Ugetab has another no random battles code that may be safer:  7E11E300 I have not tried this code myself though. This was the original unfinished drawing. Next time I do a big group picture I'll pick a more simple coloring style than that😅 So I made a quick alternate colored version using the paint bucket for now, I just want this out before the year is over since 2023 is the 30th anniversary of the Lufia series

Should You Fight The Cast Of Lufia

Because I find ‘should you fight this character’ lists funny and I’m relatively sure THESE characters haven’t been done yet.

So: Should you fight the playable characters of the SNES Lufia Games?

Maxim: Honestly? As long as you’re not an evil god, go ahead. He’ll almost certainly be on the defensive, so as long as you can take him out before his friends show up you’re probably good. Fight Maxim but watch your back.

Guy: You probably can’t beat Guy, but you probably can get at least one good shot in and it’d be satisfying. Go for it.

Selan: d o  n o t. Trust me. Don’t.

Artea: ...maybe. If you can get the jump on him, you might pull it off. A word of caution: you may be tempted to go after him post-Doom Island but A) would you really be proud of yourself picking a fight with a blind war hero and B) do you really think he wouldn’t kick your ass even harder? In conclusion: young Artea, sure. Older Artea, NOPE.

Hero: Like Maxim, you could probably take him. Unlike Maxim’s friends (who might well be distracted by picking him up and then ultimately find something better to do), Lufia will not rest until she has found you and fried you. If you have a death wish, go for it. Otherwise, it’s not worth Lufia’s wrath.

Lufia: You’re much more likely to beat her head-on than you are if you’ve previously picked on her friends, and if we’re being totally honest she could stand to be taken down a peg. Fight Lufia. (As with Artea, don’t fight her post-Doom Island - not because she can beat you, but because it’s guaranteed to get Hero riled up enough to End you.)

Aguro: Like Guy, you probably can’t take him... but it’d be satisfying anyway. Go on, deck him.

Jerin: If you can close the distance, you’ll probably be okay. But let’s be real, she’s equivalent to like ten or twelve. If you must fight a little girl, fine, but get out of dodge before her friends find out.

Tia: I mean... you could beat her, but would you really feel good about yourself? Don’t fight Tia. The guilt isn’t worth it.

Dekar: You know what, sure. Fight Dekar. There’s absolutely no scenario where you come out on top, but a brawl is the way to this man’s heart and after he flattens you there’s a very good chance he’ll pick you back up, pat you on the back, and tell you it was a good effort and there’s no shame in losing to The Strongest Man In The World. Fight Dekar. Make a friend.

Lexis: He’s feisty but he’s a nerd. You can take him. Fight Lexis - just beware of the pliers.

Bonus NPCs: 

1. Fight all four Sinistrals. Especially Gades. Godspeed.

2. Also fight Raile. Like Guy and Aguro, it’d be satisfying, and like Lexis you can definitely take him.

3. Don’t fight Roman. Lufia will find you, and also I can’t shake the feeling that something is up with that dude.

4. Don’t fight Milka unless you’re reasonably sure you can take Artea.

5. If you’re planning to fight Idura... call me.

Some interesting things I did with this height/weight chart...it basically covers Arcana, and all Lufia games involving the Sinistrals (might get Ruins of Lore on there in the future, but I couldn’t be bothered now).

Read on if interested in my stupid ideas...

1.  Teefa and Salah are identical twins, thus they’re the same height.  However, Salah is about two pounds heavier.  This is because of Teefa spending all that time in Galneon’s torture dungeon...she lost a lot of weight (though not enough to be dangerous since he didn’t want her dead, only to wish she was).  She’s built most of it back up (in part because Galneon needed her in top shape once she was under mind control, in part because Salah and Darwin fussed over getting her back to a more proper weight) but is still not up to her sister’s level.

2.  Lufia, Seena, and Iris are all Erim in human form...even if all under slightly different circumstances.  So I made all 5′3′‘.  However, because weight is a variable thing and healthy weight has a range instead of exact numbers, they all weigh something different.  Iris is the thinnest, as unlike the others she merely uses her magic to keep her disguise rather than actually living a human existence...and she based her disguise on the human standard of being thin and lovely (though not so horribly sickly thin, as she’s middle of the road for weight).  Then comes Seena, who was traveling a lot as a fortune teller even before she began her journey.  Finally, Lufia is the heaviest as she lived in the same town for nine years since childhood and only traveled once the story began...plus she’s a chef so she’s always making food and desserts!

3.  Guy had an official height (195 cm.) listed on the wiki.  Unfortunately, Squeenix has long since discontinued the official site for Curse, so I couldn’t check to see if other characters in that game have official heights.  I approximated it to 6′5′‘ based on a conversion chart, but gave different weights to both versions of Guy.  Mostly because the SNES version looked like a lean yet still powerful warrior, while the DS version is a musclebound oaf!

4.  More differences between both versions of the first chronological adventure.  Maxim, Selan, and Dekar kept their heights, but I made them each a pound lighter to reflect them being a bit more agile in the remake.  While Tia and Lexis both shrunk a few inches and were given more fitting weights as a result.

5.  As for Maxim’s lineage...I made Maxim the tallest, then Max, then Wain.  Why?  Dunno...I just felt it worked that way!

6.  Aima is like 2 inches shorter than Wain, but he’s only 1 pound heavier.  Because she’s as strong as they come and has muscles to match!
