FFXIVWrite2022 2: More like Jolt
“Not bad,” Az-- Terpsichore says as he completes the movements they taught him.
The sword in his hand is beautiful, Hedone and Harmonia did a wonderful job making something that was meant for the job while incorporating his love of nature.
“I’ve been practicing,” he says. “I know you won’t let me on my own until I perfect at least one. I figure the sword and one mind stone combination is better than the four mind combination.”
“The weapon is the same either way,” Terpsichore says. “That said, I’m more fond of the other style, but that is my own preference.”
“I’ve heard stories of other weapons, are they all based on this same one for you?”
They shake their head. “Quite a few, yes, but others, not so.”
They draw their mind stones, and the four stack to meld into a staff. Then the top releases itself and changes to a different position. “Different energies demand different orientations there. If I were to copy Hades’s style, I’d use the first, but if I were to imitate Venat’s, then this one is better.”
With that, they pull them back into four separate pieces.”
They tap on something by their neckline, under his robe. The mind stones flash and replaces are two sharp knives by their side. “My mother taught me other styles, of course. This is my favorite when I need range, but also speed. Hard to be nimble when I’m not.”
They draw the knives from their resting places, and they bifurcate- trifurcate even. It spreads into three knives on each side covering their knuckles.
“One of the few constructs with my own name in the creator’s spot. Also the name of the construct. The Chief of the Bureau of the Architecht was so pleased the great Azem did it, he wanted people to remember my name, and so the Terpsichore knives exist. But enough of that, show me what you have.”
“H-how?” he stutters out the question.
“You know how you can create a string of aether to move into a target? Come at me.”
He’s about to ask how again, when with something that sounds like the jingling of bells, they disappear, dashing about a kalamos away.
He tries to use his own dash, but by the time he’s there, Terpsichore is a kalamos away again, in a different direction.
“I can keep this up until you catch me, perhaps longer.”
An interesting game they suggest. It takes almost a dozen attempts before he catches them.
“Now do it with four. Icaros is a skill I use with them to imitate a similar feature. It allows me to be where I need, and would be good practice with controlling the others.”
He’s about to protest.
“I’ll show another weapon if you do it again.”
He grins. That sounds like great practice. And how many people can claim that they were trained by an Azem?

dp x dc prompt #38
The JL had always known that both Captain Marvel and Phantom were ancient god-adjacent creatures. So maybe it was normal to occasionally catch them running giggling through the watchtower after pulling a magical prank, or competing to see who could eat the most, or just messing around outside missions.
Maybe ancient immortal beings just act like a couple of children.
…Either way, they probably should have seen the way things would get out of hand sooner. Because now they have to figure out how to reign in a bunch of ghost animals and retrieve the Eiffel Tower from the moon.

For a book I’m writing, I am wondering if Hemet-Nisut is the correct title/last name for an ancient Egyptian handmaiden?
Hi there, thanks for the ask!
ḥmt nswt means king's wife so it would not be an appropriate name for a handmaiden. It's a title, not a name. The ancient Egyptian's didn't have last names, it was a case of "[Name], son/daughter of [Name]".
Here is a list of given names: [X] and another one [X], many names included the name of a god/goddess and they all have a meaning e.g. Ahmose = born of the god Iah (the moon god).
If you need any more help, please let me know!

What?! There's period typical homophobia and sexism in a BOOK SET IN ANCIENT TIMES?! SHOCK! HORROR 😱😱😱😱😱😱
Seriously though stop applying MODERN standards to historic settings in books. You just sound silly.
Learn to separate our standards from the past and you'll appreciate the characters and themes of the book better, I promise.
Unfortunate as it is, the novel's society does have what we consider today as bigoted standards. But to them, homosexuality for example, was not the norm. In MDZS, it was unusual, in fact, hence everyone other than wangxian's reactions towards it. (Even then, WWX had his own confusion and, in a sense, bigotry towards it, which I mentioned in a previous post. And that brings me back to the PERIOD TYPICAL STANDARDS of the book's setting which ALL the characters subscribed to in some way!!)
The characters are therefore acting on the morals OF THAT TIME PERIOD.
As uncomfortable as it is, stop holding characters to our standards. Oh and whilst you're at it, let people interpret characters however they like in FANON.
Would also like to add that even fanon aside, JC himself is 🏳️🌈 coded, regardless of what the author says. As such, it is completely understandable how some LGBT fans like and latch onto him and headcannon him as such.
See the jealously he has towards anyone talking to WWX and his zero interest in women. Plus his reaction to seeing WWX with LWJ and the fact he never married.....
Yeah. Makes perfect sense why LGBT headcannons of him would exist, especially if you read into how the gossipers in the book literally described his relationship with WWX.
To act as though the LGBT headcannons of him are nonsensical is, in fact, nonsensical in itself for these reasons. Just admit that you're going by your own bias towards JC and go. Because the LGBT HCs whether he be gay, bisexual, ace or a combination of some isn't as big of a reach as you think it is if you read into the character. And it explains how a lot of ace fans have latched onto his character and those still questioning their sexuality too because they may still be in an environment where it isn't safe or welcoming to come out yet (quite like the setting in MDZS).
Consider internalised homophobia exists, and can apply to some MXTX characters is all I'm saying and ultimately, let people enjoy their headcannons fs. It isn't hurting anyone. But remember that your shitty, biased opinions are!

Fun thing I learned today: The reason the original Latin translation of the Kahun fragment has Set tell Horus: “bis pulchrae sunt nates tuae” (meaning "twice beautiful are your buttocks")—which is kind of a weird sentence, grammatically it just doesn't seem to make much sense—is because originally the 𓅱𓏭 ending on the adjective that the original Egyptian used meant "twice." But, by Middle Egyptian times, when the fragment was written, it had lost that original dual meaning, and was more of a generic exclamation. So, nfrwy pḥwy.ky means something more like: “How beautiful are your two buttocks!” Which makes much more sense grammatically.
So, no, Set did not hit on Horus with a grammatically confused way of saying “nice ass” in the first sentence of the Kahun fragment that was preserved well enough to be read. He hit on Horus with a grammatically sound way of saying “nice ass” in the first sentence of the Kahun fragment that was preserved well enough to be read. But the hitting on Horus part was definitely a thing that happened.
Anyway, if YOU want to hit on your mortal enemy in Middle Egyptian and then get tricked by him into making him strong enough to defeat you because he said he could only have sex with you if you made his strength equal to yours, and for some reason you decided that was a worthy sacrifice, here’s how:

Richard,
I hope you don't mind, but I happened upon you deep in thought in the castle courtyard and...well, the sight took my breath away.
I used a Muggle contraption (I believe they call it a camera) to capture these still images. You look almost corporeal...
E 🖤
E, my dear,
I am most intrigued by this Muggle contraption, and even more so — by how well you were able to capture me and my heart with it. And what a coincidence! I must admit, I had no idea that anybody was there at the time as I was most likely preoccupied with matters regarding me... Well, you said it yourself, looking corporal. If you have the time, allow me to explain.
You see, for the past two weeks I have been experimenting with something known as ancient magic. I cannot really see it but I can feel it when I am somewhere near the source, and I can really feel it if I touch it. If I spend plenty of time doing just that and focusing on being corporal — I seem to become so! Well, whatever part of me is surrounded by magic anyway.
That photo you took — I believe it was the first time that I have attempted to fully step into the stream of magic a day or two ago. The reason I needed to conduct some experiments first is rather serious as well: when the magic starts sipping away (and it never holds for longer than one day) I... Well, I am yet to find a way to make the transition back to my ghostly form less painful. As much as I was craving to feel, I forgot that pain is an integral part of life as well.
Needless to say that as fun as being able to be me again was, by the time I walked all the way back to the castle in my human form (and I got lost so many times since I could not just fly above the land toward the castle, oops) I was so tired that I just fell asleep on a bench somewhere near that area your camera captured me. When I woke up — I was a ghost again. At the very least, whatever pain I might have gone through that night, I slept through it.
I do hope that you are doing well, my darling. The sight of me should not be taking your breath away but instead making your heart beat and your soul soar. I hope you continue working on those still images because I did not get a chance to look at myself in the mirror that night. You are my only witness and I am honoured to have you share that special moment with me.
Thinking of you, always,
Richard Jackdaw
P. S. May I hope that someday I would be granted permission to call you by your proper name, my lady E?
