#bts ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How transparent are Fashion Brands? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's been six years since many of us started asking the fashion industry #WhoMadeMyClothes? This is the campaign led by non-profit, Fashion Revolution. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ April 22nd - 28th is Fashion Revolution Week. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On 24 April 2013, the Rana Plaza factory building in Bangladesh collapsed. 1,138 people died and another 2,500 were injured, making it the fourth largest industrial disaster in history. That’s when Fashion Revolution was born. There were five garment factories in Rana Plaza all manufacturing clothing for the western market. The victims were mostly young women. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you would like to ask a brand the same question #WhoMadeMyClothes - you can post a photograph at any time this week (and beyond) and include the hashtag #whomademyclothes. This gemstone mandala was made up with some of Sha Sha's recommended crystals for the workshop. S T R A W S! Incredibly delighted to see that so many people are getting on board with questioning the plastic/bamboo straw debate - Have you joined #TheLastStraw campaign? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I've always been frugal (tight), and washed/used the same plastic straws over and over again at home. And now in bars and restaurants, it's great to see so many of us re-training ourselves to say 'no thank you' to straws in our glasses, as although using one straw doesn’t seem like a big deal, - it is estimated that the UK and US alone throw away around 550 million plastic straws every day. Each one of those straws is used for an average of maybe just 20 minutes (unless you are a speed slurper, and probably used just once) the problem with plastic straws is one of sheer volume. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you'd like to find out what you can do to cut down on your plastic use, and how you too can work to inspire a generation to save our oceans, check out both the @oceangeneration and @unops_official instagram pages. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We can all work together to raise awareness, encourage attitude shifts and create behavioural change - starting with the simple plastic straw - invest in a reusable bamboo straw, if you have to.
